Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into episode one hundred and thirteen of Bring Heaven Down.
My name is Tim and I'm the host of this
daily devotional podcast. I didn't know what to talk about
this morning because we just finished a Philippian series, and
if you haven't heard that, you can go back and
listen to all of them. We went for about a
few weeks there, and the Holy Spirit led me to
(00:23):
Psalm twenty three this morning, one of the greatest chapters
in the Book of the Bible in my personal opinion,
because of how it describes God. So let's read a
few of these verses. We'll read the first three verses
today if you want to follow along with your Bible
(00:44):
or on your phone. Psalm twenty three, The Lord is
my shepherd. I shall not be in want. He makes
me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside
quiet waters my soul. He guides me and paths of
righteousness for his name's sake. I love how these verses
(01:10):
describe our God. The Lord is my shepherd. Jesus is
described as the good shepherd who leads us, takes care
of us, loves us, leads the ninety nine. For the
one verse two, he makes me lie down in green pastures,
(01:35):
he leads me beside quiet waters. In the busyness of
twenty twenty five, this verse is paramount because we must
take it very seriously to lie down in green pastures
(01:58):
and be led beside quiet waters. With all of the
noise around us, constantly our phones, where we're going to
get to next, people demanding things from us, and us
wanting to fulfill those things and responsibilities like work families.
(02:20):
Spending time in the Word becomes even more important, and
it was extremely important before. But where we can find
our green pastures and quiet waters is by reading scripture
and spending time with God. Because we certainly aren't going
(02:43):
to find green pastures or quiet waters on a news
station on social media, but we find it in God's word.
And then verse three, he restores my soul, he guides me,
and pass of righteousness for his name sink again. Our
(03:05):
soul doesn't become restored by focusing on the things that
surround us on a daily basis. Our souls don't become
restored by eating an amazing meal at a local dining spot.
(03:27):
Our stomachs become satisfied, but our souls aren't restored. Our
souls are restored. Our spirit is refreshed when we spend
time with him. Every time I read Psalm twenty three,
I am reminded at how much I need to be
(03:51):
in God's word daily, and I'm also reminded at how
much I fail at doing that. I personally need to
do a better job of reading God's word daily, which
is interesting because I do this podcast Monday through Friday.
But there's got to be intentional time with the Lord
(04:14):
by myself. Yes, I'm spending time with the Lord by
myself through this podcast, but it is still distracting. I'm
still speaking into a microphone. I'm not entirely focused on
him because I've got my recorder going. I'm speaking to
a microphone. I'm reacting and providing discernment to what I'm reading.
(04:35):
But the overall takeaway from today is with all of
the noise surrounding us, reminding yourself that the Lord is
your shepherd that will make us laid down in green pastures,
and that will lead us besides quiet waters, and that
he restores our soul. If you're tired, are you tired
(04:56):
because you haven't spent enough time with the Lord? And
is that zero? I think it's a fair question to
ask all of us. Thank you for joining the show
today and I hope the Holy Spirit revealed more and
more about our Lord and Savior of Jesus Christ. And
I hope you all have a wonderful day filled by
the Holy Spirit.
