Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome an episode one hundred and sixteen of Bring Heaven Down.
My name is Tim and I'm the host of this
daily devotional podcast. While you're here, hit that follow button
so this podcast shows up in your feed. If you
have a question, you can send an email over to
Bring Heavendown number seven at gmail dot com. And I
(00:23):
would love to discuss that and try my best to
answer it. Today's show, I want to discuss a very
passionate topic of mine, and it's really about technology in
twenty twenty five, because there's so many advantages to it,
(00:45):
and this is a perfect example of this. I woke
up at four o'clock this morning before my wife goes
to work, and I'm recording this podcast in the basement
of our house. I work from home. I watch my
kids Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and it's an amazing thing to
be able to work from home and navigate those things
(01:07):
without having to pay for daycare. And I was having
a coffee yesterday with someone that works from home and
has a very flexible schedule. And there are so many
good advantages to technology, but there are also so many
(01:28):
bad things as well that you need to have your
head on a swivel always while using technology, your iPhone,
your Android, whatever the case may be, you are a
click away, a temptation away from trouble. There is a
(01:54):
pornography epidemic in this country, and a large part of
this epidemic is because you are one click away from
being able to access it anywhere and any time. And
(02:15):
there's also so many other bad effects of technology. The
percentage of teenagers and adults struggling with anxiety or depression
can be directly tied to technology use. I'm not trying
(02:39):
to sound like everything was great in my day. Oh
back in my day, everything was so indo. I'm not
trying to sound like that. But when I was a
middle school boy and even a high schooler, I didn't
even know what anxiety was. The word was rarely tossed around,
(03:05):
to the point where it was never really a discussion.
I'm sure people struggled with it. But today anxiety has
become an identity to some people, where yeah, I have anxiety,
and it's just so quickly brushed over. And I think
(03:27):
a lot of the issues that we see in today's
society is a result of the damage social media has
done to many people's lives. And that's why you've got
to be careful. If you're a parent with kids, you
(03:49):
need to be aware of things they can access if
you give them an iPhone. If you're someone that likes
to scroll across reels or go across the internet, yourself
also need to be very careful. And the verse that
(04:11):
I want to apply to this is Ephesian chapter five,
verses fifteen through sixteen. It says, be very careful then
how you live, not as unwise, but as wise, making
the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
(04:31):
There is so much good with technology. To be able
to work from home, to be able to have access
to internet and get work done and pay for bills
and do things like that. It's awesome. Maps on your
phone to get anywhere instead of using map quests is incredible.
(04:52):
But there is also much evil associated with the same devices.
So you need to be aware and be ready and
understand where these things can lead, because if you aren't,
then you could go down a rabbit trail and get
(05:16):
into trouble very very fast, and put yourself in a
situation that you don't want to be in, very very fast.
So yes, technology is our friend, gateway Fiber Internet is incredible,
and it's being installed in our Call to sac in
our neighborhood right now as I speak, not at four am,
(05:40):
but later today, and I'm sure we're going to subscribe
to it because it's cheaper and better than Infinity. But
let's not forget how evil technology is and what it
is doing to lives everywhere, the addiction, the identification, and
(06:10):
anxiety and depression. Last week, I did an episode on
how to Restore your Soul and I read through a
few verses in Psalms twenty three, and to restore your
soul is to not be on your phone quiet waters
is not scrolling across Instagram and Facebook reels, gluing yourself
(06:34):
to Fox News or MSNBC for hours and hours and hours.
Those in itself create more anxiety and depression and worry.
So I just am very passionate about it because I
see how it's impacting lives everywhere, and being a youth pastor,
(06:55):
I see how it impacts youth lives everywhere, and it's
just something that you can't be casual with. You cannot
be casual with technology. You need to be very careful
and very aware because the days are evil and there's
(07:17):
evil everywhere. And I'm not even talking about scams. I mean,
think about the amount of scams you get to your
phone or I just got a scam yesterday in the mail,
someone trying to sell me a warranty for the new
car we bought, and I called the number and something
seemed fishy, so I hung up the phone. You've just
(07:38):
got to be very, very careful because with these technological
advances comes evil as well. Thank you for joining the
show today, and I hope the Holy Spirit revealed more
and more about our Lord and Savior of Jesus Christ.
And I hope this episode was helpful for you in
navigating technology. Thank you for choosing Jesus today.
