Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into episode number twelve of Bring Heaven Down. My
name is Tim and I'm the host of this daily
devotional show. While you're here, hit that follow button so
this podcast will show up in your feed Monday through Friday.
And I want to ask you to do your part.
(00:20):
My one big request from you while listening to this
show is that you rate and review the show so
that we can get Jesus to reach more people. And
that's what this podcast is trying to do. We are
trying to bring Jesus into your living room. So last
(00:41):
night I had a discussion with my wife. It was
her birthday yesterday, and as we're settling down for the night,
as our kids are in bed, beautiful night in the
great state of Minnesota. I mean, it's as nice as
a spring night as you can get humanity. Not hot,
(01:02):
but warm, beautiful night to sit on the back patio.
So I asked my wife, what do you want to do?
So she said, give me some options. So I came
up with some options and one of the options was
a game. One of the options was reading our Bible,
(01:23):
and one of the options was just absolutely doing nothing
and just sitting outside and taking it in And what
happened next is the story that I want to share
on today's podcast because it may have gone different than
you've even anticipated. So thanks for tuning in. Hold on
(01:46):
tight to this sting will forever your favorite drink or
a cup of coffee, and let's bring Heaven a little
closer together. As I'm giving my wife these options, option
one was a game, and as I was thinking through
(02:08):
the other options, I received a nudge from the Holy
Spirit to suggest the idea of reading the Bible. And
when I had that idea, I knew that was the
choice that she was going to choose. So I needed
(02:29):
to make a decision. Do I follow this nudge from
the Holy Spirit or do I just continue going down
the path of suggesting other ideas and kind of making
it more of a chill night. I went down that path,
and I said we could play a game. We could
read scripture together which we've done before, which we do
(02:53):
on a semi consistent basis, or in Hebrews chapter five,
and she chose Hebrews chapter five. And as the Bible
study finished, we both revealed something to each other that
was unexpected. She told me that I don't really feel
(03:16):
like going into the depths of the Bible right now.
I don't really want to think about stuff right now.
I just want to chill. And then I revealed to her,
I said, when I had an idea to give you
the list of options and reading scripture together popped into
(03:38):
my head. I almost didn't bring it up because I
also wanted to chill and relax and not read at
seven pm at night as we're unwinding for the night
and relaxing before a busy week get started on Monday.
(03:59):
And the overall point of what I'm trying to say
right now is that there are going to be moments
and times in our life like my wife and I
had last night, where you don't really feel like reading
scripture or diving into God's word or choosing Jesus during
(04:22):
your daily life. This is when love doesn't become a feeling,
doesn't become this warm sensation inside of you, which can
sometimes happen. But this is when love for Jesus becomes
(04:49):
a choice, just like loving your spouse is a choice. Sure,
you get feelings about your spouse, but there are days
when those warm sentational feelings aren't there during a course
of a marriage or relationship, and you must choose love.
It's the same thing in our relationship with Jesus. You
(05:11):
may not feel like diving into the word of God
or choosing Jesus when you're frustrated, but we must make
that everyday choice where we wake up and we choose
and submit to the authority of Jesus, Because when you
really think about it, there are so many possible choices
(05:34):
that we have throughout a day. Last night is an
amazing example of We had the choice to go downstairs,
watch an NBA playoff game, watch a movie, scroll on
our phones, just sit outside clean up after the party.
There were a zillion different options that we could have
(05:55):
chose besides Jesus, and all though we were not necessarily
wanting to challenge our minds and take that step of
obedience to dive into God's word, we chose Jesus last night.
(06:23):
And there have been plenty of times in our marriage
where I had the same nudge from the Holy Spirit
and I said, ah, it's late, I'm tired, it's a
long week, it's a busy day. Tomorrow, Tomorrow night, Tuesday night,
Wednesday night, Thursday. I don't want to do it tonight, Lord,
so forgive me There have been plenty of times where
(06:44):
I have failed when I've received that nudge. But I
want to encourage you to make that choice to love Jesus,
especially when those geshy feelings of loving Jesus aren't there,
because that's when you're tested the most. Are you going
(07:08):
to choose Jesus who died for our sins and resurrected
three days later, or are you going to choose a
more instant gratification choice of watching TV and relaxing and
(07:29):
turning off your brain. And here's the thing, it's not
like we studied God's word for three hours. We studied
for twenty minutes and then went downstairs and relaxed for
the evening and watched TV twenty minutes. Twenty minutes. It's
(07:51):
all it took. When you think about twenty minutes and
how many stupid things I do in twenty minutes, that
it take the time to do it in twenty minutes,
it just makes it all that more ridiculous that I
don't choose Jesus more often than I do. So I
will to encourage you this morning to make the choice
(08:13):
of loving Jesus of choosing Jesus Tomorrow. I want to
talk about what we studied together and what I learned
in Hebrews chapter five. I want to talk about how
the Holy Spirit moved during that discussion. Thank you for
making this podcast part of your day, where our prayers
that the Holy Spirit will reveal more and more about
our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Everyone have a great
(08:35):
day and remember choose Jesus
