Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into episode number twenty eight of Bring Heaven Down.
My name is Tim and I'm the host of this
daily devotional podcast that shows up in your feed Monday
through Friday. While you're here, hit that follow button wherever
you are listening to this podcast, so that this podcast
will show up in your feed, and rate and review
(00:20):
the podcast if you're willing, so that we can get
this podcast more exposure, and so we can bring Jesus
two more people. I did not do a podcast yesterday
on Memorial Day. I hope you were able to rest
and honor those that served our country and made the
ultimate sacrifice. And today is Tuesday, and last week we
(00:44):
did something special. On Tuesday. We did a testimony and
I challenged you listeners. I said, if you have a testimony,
and if you are willing to share your testimony, I
would love to do this weekly where on Tuesdays I
share a testimony from a listener. And if you're listening
(01:05):
right now, I want to encourage you to share your testimony.
If you are feeling led by the Holy Spirit right now,
email the show Bring Heaven Down number seven at gmail
dot com. It doesn't have to be five pages long.
It can be if you want it to be. But
it can just be a paragraph, two paragraphs, it can
be however long you want it to be. There is
(01:29):
nothing more powerful than a Christian sharing their testimony and
how Jesus transformed and impacted their life. So, if you're willing,
email the show Bring Heaven Down number seven at gmail
dot com. The responses last week were incredible and I
(01:50):
would love to see more. Bring Heaven Down number seven
at gmail dot com. It's Tuesday Testimony. Grab your favorite
drink or cup of coffee, and let's bring Heaven a
little closer together. This testimony comes from Elizabeth. Elizabeth sent
(02:15):
me this email last week. It says God has transformed
my life in so many ways. I'm a sinner and
each day's helping me to kill my flesh. I've smoked
both cigarettes and weed for years. God delivered me from
cigarettes in twenty nineteen. I continued to smoke weed daily. However,
(02:37):
I've been convicted lately and only smoked on the weekend.
But now I'm asking God to completely remove it from
my life, and I believe it. I'm showering myself with
His love and building my relationship stronger with Jesus. Christ.
I want to be filled, Holy Ghost. Thank you for listening,
(02:59):
Brother in Christ. Thanks Liz. So this is a powerful testimony,
and they're all powerful. So if you're wondering, oh, I
just don't have that powerful, every testimony and how Jesus
transformed and changed a life is powerful. There is no
(03:21):
good or bad testimony. Elizabeth, this is a powerful testimony,
just as they all are. She talks about how God
has been working in her life to remove the addiction
of cigarettes and to remove the addiction of weed. You
(03:42):
can see how God has delivered her from these addictions.
And we need to be very careful about what we
do call an addiction and what we don't call an addiction,
because I think it's unfair to call people who struggle
(04:04):
with alcohol or drugs or cigarettes addicted, but then to
call people that struggle with obsessing over sports or work
or family life not addicted, because addiction is obsession with
(04:25):
anything other than God. That can be sports, that can
be work, that can be shopping, that can be acquiring stuff,
that can be family, that can be children. If we
put anything above God, then we have an addiction and
(04:49):
we are valuing something more than God himself. So we
need to be careful not to point the finger at
those that struggle with drugs or alcohol, because we all
struggle with something. I would be lying if I say
(05:09):
that I put God first every single day in my life,
and that's a daily thing that I personally need to
repent of. Lord, I'm sorry for putting my family first,
for putting my work first, for putting my kids first,
for putting my sleep first. Because every single day I
(05:30):
could wake up at four or five thirty minutes earlier,
fifteen minutes earlier, to study God's word. But when do
I wake up when my kids wake up? When do
I get up when my kids start crying? And is
there time for Jesus when my kids are crying and
need us in that moment? Not? Really, there's not time
(05:53):
for me to open up the word of God and say, Lord,
teach me today. I can pray, I can meditate on
God's word sort of. But let's just be very careful
about pointing fingers and about talking about other people that
(06:13):
might struggle with different things that might be louder like
these might be louder addictions because sports and work and
family and shopping, those are all normalized things that we normalize.
But you see someone that struggles with weed or cigarettes
(06:35):
or alcohol, and we judge them a little bit harsher,
which is unfair because we are all on the same
playing field. I am no better than Elizabeth, and nobody
is better than Elizabeth, because the truth of the matter
(06:55):
is we all struggle with sin. We all have our
personal struggles with our own individualized sin. But what is
powerful is that God has transformed my life in so
many ways. That is Elizabeth's opening sentence in her testimony,
(07:17):
and that's how all of our testimonies should start. God
has transformed my life in so many ways. And here's
the truth. God never stops transforming our life when we
become followers of Jesus, when we become believers in Jesus Christ,
he continues to transform us into becoming more and more
(07:41):
like him. So when we enter into a relationship with Jesus,
we actually enter into a relationship of struggling to get
past our prior sin. We enter into a relationship of repentance.
(08:02):
So I read Elizabeth's testimony and I think about the
things that she struggles with or has struggled with, and
I think about how God has transformed her life and
then I think about things that I've struggled with and
how God has transformed my life. As I used to
struggle with pornography, I used to struggle with being addicted
(08:24):
to coffee and caffeine. I used to struggle with putting
my work life number one. I used to struggle with
money big time. So while you're listening to this, I
hope that while I was reading Elizabeth's testimony, your mind
(08:47):
didn't go to, oh, my words. She struggled with this.
They struggled with this because we all have our personal struggles.
We all are in need of Jesus Christ as our
Lord and savior. But the most powerful part of this
testimony was that God has transformed my life in so
many ways, and what a story. I'm showering myself with
(09:11):
his love and building my relationship stronger with Jesus Christ.
I want to be filled with the Holy Ghost. Those
are all Elizabeth's words, and those are beautiful words. And
Jesus he always invited, He always surprised, and he always
(09:34):
offered a connection to himself in which we are giving cleansing, covering,
and belonging. We are no longer a sober person speaking
to an addict. We are two people who are seeing
beautiful realities that will take the rest of our lives
(09:54):
to understand, and we are being changed. That was written
by Ed Welch on Desiring Good dot org. It's true
we are not sober people speaking to an actor, because
if you look at my life and you really break
it down, I'm an addict to my family, my children,
(10:19):
I value things over God and I fall short every day.
But beautiful testimony amazing story of how God transformed Elizabeth's life.
If you want to share your testimony, bring Heaven Down
number seven at gmail dot com. Your testimony could change
someone's life. Thank you for listening and for making this
(10:41):
podcast a part of your day or Our prayer is
that the Lord will work in your life and that
the Holy Spirit will reveal more and more about our
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
