Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into episode number thirty of Bring Heaven Done. My
name is Tim and I'm the host of this daily
devotional podcast that shows up in your podcast feed Monday
through Friday. While you're here, hit that follow button so
this podcast will show up in your feed, and rate
and review the show so we can bring Jesus to
more people. Both of those things would be greatly appreciated. Today,
(00:24):
I want to talk about prayer, and I want to
deliver a prayer challenge to you because it is something
that I know will bring your relationship with Jesus to
another level. So grab your favorite drink or a cup
(00:48):
of coffee, and let's bring Heaven a little closer together
to begin. Sometimes I think we over complicate our relationship
with Jesus. Two. Oftentimes I'm asking myself or I'm being asked,
(01:14):
how can I draw closer to Jesus? How can I
have a closer relationship with Jesus? How can I learn
more about Jesus? How can I know what Jesus wants
me to do? And our relationship with Jesus is no
different than our relationship with someone that we know that's
(01:39):
our friend. If you don't talk to your friend or
spend any time with your friend. If you don't give
a friend the time of day, well, you are not
going to be close to that friend. You are not
going to know what that friend is thinking, what that
friend is doing. And it's the same with Jesus. If
(02:04):
you want to be close to Jesus, you need to
spend time with Jesus. If you want a personal relationship
that feels intimate with Jesus, then you need to take
time to spend time with Jesus. It doesn't have to
(02:25):
be that complicated. And it says in Matthew chapter six,
Versus six, and this is right before Jesus tells the
disciples how to pray. He says this, but when you pray,
go into your room and shut the door and pray
(02:45):
to your father, who is in secret. And your father,
who sees in secret, will reward you. If you take
time to separate yourself the busyness of life, from the
busyness and attractiveness of your phone or computer. If you
(03:09):
even take time away from your family or your friends,
just for a few minutes to go into a desolate place,
a private place, and pray, your relationship with Jesus will
grow and you will feel Jesus drawing close to you
(03:29):
as you draw close to him. Before our kids go
to bed, my wife and I always pray with our children.
I lead the prayer, and then after we pray, we
say the Lord's Prayer, and then we sing the apple
seed song. Oh, the Lord is good to me, And
(03:51):
so I think, the Lord forgive me the things that
need the son and the d in the apple seed.
The Lord is good to me. Oh men o men,
Amen amen. And recently we'll pray together, the four of
us five, including the baby in mommy's tummy, and our oldest,
who turns three in a few weeks, wants to say
(04:14):
the Lord's Prayer upstairs with mom and not do it
together as an entire family. And first of all, I'm
kind of like, that's kind of sad, like you don't
want to do that together. But when I take our
son upstairs and I say that Lord's Prayer and he's
practically sleeping in my arms. When I say the Lord's
(04:38):
Prayer every night as I'm tucking him into bed, my
relationship with Jesus feels really really close because I feel
like it's a private prayer between me and God. As
my son is practically sleeping in my arms. I'm saying
(04:58):
it with my son, but he's basically the point that
I'm saying is, when you take time to go pray
in a private place, you will feel the power of
the Holy Spirit working in your life, and your relationship
with Jesus will grow, and you will feel Jesus drawing
(05:21):
near to you. And recently, when I've been saying that prayer,
I've even been getting a little emotional. I mean, right
now I'm speaking into a microphone, but I am by myself.
And when you're by yourself, and you really slow down
and say the words our Father, who aren't in heaven, Hollywood,
(05:42):
be thy name, thy Kingdom. Come, Thy will be done
on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this
day are daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as
we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us
not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For that
is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever
(06:03):
and ever. Aimen. I want to challenge you to go
to a private place and pray, and I want you
to notice how the Holy Spirit works in that moment.
It can be in your car on the way to
work or on the way home, turn off the radio,
(06:26):
turn off the music, turn off the podcast besides this one,
and then pray. So after this podcast is done, step aside,
take three minutes, three minutes and just go pray. Leave
your phone downstairs, turn your phone off, whatever you gotta do.
(06:49):
Take a moment to go pray. And tomorrow what I'm
going to talk about is how Jesus is our example
of prayer. But today I want to channel you to
go pray by yourself, pray in private, as Matthew six
six says. But when you go pray, go into your
(07:12):
room and shut the door and pray to your father
who is in secret, and your father, who sees in secret,
will reward you. The reason why Jesus tells us to
go into our room and shut the door and pray
to your father in secret is because he knows that's
when closeness happens. That's when the Holy Spirit will work
(07:34):
in your life the most. Is when you set aside
specific attention to grow that relationship. Just like any other friend.
Jesus is our friend. He is our best friend, and
in order to feel him working in your life, in
order to have a close relationship with him. You need
(07:55):
to spend time with him. So that's our prayer challenge today.
Thank you for listening, and I pray that the Holy
Spirit revealed more and more about our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ. And I hope your prayer life goes to
another level today
