Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome into episode number forty of Bringing Heaven Down. My
name is Tim and I'm the host of this daily
devotional podcast. Thank you for making this podcast part of
your day. Make sure you hit that follow button wherever
you're listening to the show, and rate and review the
show if you can. Today's topic is a touch different,

(00:23):
but one that I think is important to explore because
if this has happened to you, then maybe attending church
weekly is not a big part of your life, but

(00:48):
it really should be regardless of what has happened to
you in the past. So with that being said, we're
gonna talk about church hurt today. If you have been
hurt by the church and have left feeling disgusted or

(01:09):
bitter and left a church feeling like you can't join
another one because of the hurt that you had with
a prior church, well that's the topic today. So grab
your favorite drink or a cup of coffee, and let's
bring Heaven a little closer together. I need to preface

(01:38):
everything that I'm about to say with I personally have
never had a quote unquote church hurt before. I have
never felt betrayed, I have never felt like someone stabbed
me in the back, or whatever the case may be.

(02:01):
So I guess you could say I'm speaking from a
perspective outside looking in, but here we go. Anyways, with
that being said, if you have been hurt by the church,
first I need to say I'm sorry, not that I
did it, but I'm sorry that you personally had to

(02:25):
go through this challenging time and have had doubts about
your current church, a future church, all churches. But what
needs to be said is that if you were hurt

(02:45):
by a church, it was not God hurting you. It
was a sinful person hurting you. There's a difference there
is Our run by people, and people every single human

(03:07):
besides Jesus that has walked this planet is a sinful person.
So my encouragement to you would be to separate the two.
It was not God that hurt you, It was a
sinful man or woman in the church that hurt you.

(03:32):
So I think that's step number one for you to recognize,
is that there's a difference there. Churches are run by
sinful human beings, and when sinful human beings are a
part of anything, mistakes are going to be made. But

(03:53):
God doesn't make mistakes. God doesn't miss so I just
want I want you to remind yourself of that. First. Secondly,
if you had been hurt by a church and you
feel the need to leave a church, I get it.

(04:16):
I get you. However, if that is the case, you
should not stop attending a different church just because a
past church hurt you or betrayed you. We need church

(04:37):
in our lives, we need community in our lives. We
need to be around fellow believers. For example, when I
attend church on Sunday, I am always so encouraged that
there are hundreds of other people that I believe the

(05:02):
same truth that I believe, because if I'm being honest,
I've had doubts, okay, like hmm, okay, huh, I'm not
fully getting this? Am I fully trusting this to my
full capability? Did Jesus really do all these things? Are
these texts one hundred percent accurate? And I think doubts

(05:25):
are natural. I'm sure I'm not the only one that
has had those. And when I attend church on Sundays
and I see other people worshiping these same God that
I worship, it encourages me. It helps me pierce through

(05:47):
those doubts because it's not like I'm standing on an
island by myself, worshiping this God that I believe in.
We've got a band of believers, and you've got community
and friends that want to pray for each other and

(06:10):
talk about life with each other. Because life is hard,
and when life gets hard, we need to have a
group of community, specifically a group of fellow believers that
can walk with us pray for us through the tough times.

(06:35):
So I'm sure it's not going to be an easy
thing to do to walk into a new church without
the thought of getting hurt again. But remind yourself again
that it was not God that hurt you, And remind

(06:59):
yourself again that we are called to be in fellowship
with other believers. We are called to be together with
other believers. Hebrews ten twenty five says this, And let
us consider how to stir up one another to love

(07:23):
and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is
the habit of some, but encouraging one another. And all
the more, as you see the day drawing near when
we separate ourselves from the church, we can become more
like the world, and we can become more interested in

(07:45):
worldly things. There is a time in my life when
I was twenty four to twenty five years old, when
I lived in Washington, DC, when I did an attend
church for about a year year and a half because
I was working seven days a week and when I
was doing that, I was not making an intentional decision

(08:06):
to draw close to God on Sundays or throughout the
week because my mind was convinced that I needed to
work so much to make as much money as I could.
And when you are not a part of a church,
you tend to search other places for things like advice

(08:30):
and encouragement, and speaking from experience, when you search innother
places for that encouragement and advice, it doesn't always come
from the best of places. So first things first, I'm
sorry if you've been hurt by the church. Remember it

(08:51):
wasn't God that hurt you specifically. And three, we are
called to be in fellowship with other believers, So take
a step of boldness, take a big step of faith,
get back into the church and meet with fellow believers. Again.
Thank you for choosing Jesus today, and I hope everyone

(09:12):
has a good day
