(00:21):
show if you're willing to do that. As well. As
far as today's topic goes, I woke up with a
question in my mind and I'm going to talk about
that question because I think it requires further analysis, further examination.

(00:46):
I think the Holy Spirit put this question in my
mind today because it's a topic for this podcast to address.
So grab your favorite drink or a cup of coffee,
and let's bring heavy been a little closer together. Last

(01:09):
night we had a youth group event, and we've been
doing these faith in Fire nights where we have a bonfire,
there's worship music and a five to ten minute message
from me, and then we split off into small groupes
and just kind of hang out for the rest of
the night. And that's what we've been doing throughout the

(01:31):
summer and yesterday, because it's faith and fire, I talked
about Moses and the Burning Bush, and how God tells
Moses to tell the Egyptians and Israelites, if they ask
who sent you, say I am? And one saying I

(01:58):
am is kind of confusing, because what does that mean?
Why did God tell Moses to refer to him as
I am? Why did some research the other day and
it says this I am is the ultimate statement of

(02:19):
self sufficiency, self existence, and immediate presence. God's existence is
not contingent upon anyone else, His plans are not contingent
upon any circumstances. He promises that he will be what
he will be, that is, he will be the eternally
constant God. He stands, ever present and unchangeable, completely sufficient

(02:45):
in himself to do what he wills to do and
to accomplish what he wills to accomplish. When God identified
himself as I am who I am, he stated that
no matter when or where, he is there. And as
I was preparing for my message last night, I remember

(03:06):
Jesus referring to himself as I am. And the Gospel
of John he was talking to the Pharisees, and the
Pharisees are questioning him, and in verse fifty three of
chapter eight, It says, are you greater than our father Abraham,
who died and the prophets died? Who do you make

(03:29):
yourself out to be? Jesus answered, if I glorify myself,
my glory is nothing. It is my father who glorifies me,
of whom you say he is our gone, But you
have not known him. I know him. If I were
to say that I do not know him, I would
be a liar like you. But I do know him,

(03:50):
and I keep his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced that
he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.
So the Jews said to him, you were yet fifty
years old, and have you seen Abraham. Jesus said to them, truly, truly,
I say to you, before Abraham was I am. So

(04:13):
they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus
hid himself and went out of the temple. When Jesus
referred to himself as I am, it struck a chord
with the Pharisees because he was going back to God's
message to Moses in the Burning Bush. When God referred

(04:33):
to himself as I am, the Pharisees recognized Jesus's same verbiage.
When he referred to himself as I am, and that
was purposeful, that was intentional, and they picked up stones
to throw at him. And the question that hit me

(04:55):
like a pile of bricks this morning was are we
too who's sensitive? Do we get offended too easily? And
I think about the Pharisees in this situation. It was
a bold claim by Jesus to refer to himself as
I am. He was declaring himself to be God, but

(05:20):
he was God, and the Pharisees got offended and started
to hurl stones at him. And then I apply it
to our everyday lives. One We've all fallen short and
are in need of Jesus's love and forgiveness. But sometimes

(05:43):
I think we get too sensitive. We hold on the grudges,
don't want to forgive somebody if they hurt us, if
Jesus's plan is different than our own plan. I've done this,
I've been upset with God. I've been a God and
have questioned why. I think sometimes what we do is

(06:08):
we take everything so personally, and we are a sensitive
group of people. I send every single day of my life,
and yet I expect Jesus to forgive me because he
does when I go to him and repent and confess.
Yet if someone else hurts me, I'm willing to hold

(06:30):
on to that grudge for years, for years before I
forgive them. And I see people take the Bible and
twist it into their own way of thinking. And when
they do that, they are being sensitive because they don't

(06:52):
like what the Bible says about any topic, marriage, relationships, identity,
and so much more. There's so many topics where people
take it and twist it into a thing that they
wanted to say so that it represents them instead of

(07:12):
submitting to God's authority and God's glory. What you often
see is people take the context of the Bible out
of context and make it into what they want it
to say. So, I think we are a sensitive group
of people, and I think we need to pray and
surrender and submit ourselves to the Lord. And I think

(07:35):
that's the beginning of not being so sensitive with what
the Bible has to say and with forgiveness and bitterness. Lord,
reveal my heart, expose my deepest sins, and help me
become more like you. I think that's the prayer. Anyways,

(07:56):
just my thoughts for this morning. I hope the Holy
Spirit reveals born and more about our Lord and savior,
Jesus Christ. And thank you for choosing Jesus today
