(00:43):
spending their day with Jesus. All right, Today's topic. I
want to talk about the motivation for doing I touched
on this in episode sixty nine while we're covering our
Exodus series, and we'll bounce right back into our Exodus
series next week. But as I was talking yesterday about
(01:06):
our motivation for doing, it reminded me of another topic
that I think is very important. So that's what we're
gonna talk about today. Grab your favorite drink or a
cup of coffee. Let's bring heaving a little closer together.
(01:26):
Sometimes I think we all lose our purpose or motivation
for doing something. And I'll never forget our pastor's message
on our wedding day because he talked about the true
motivation for loving your spouse. He talked about the intentional
(01:51):
motivation we must have in how we love our spouses
and how we serve. And this idea applies to everywhere
in our life, how we work, how we love our spouses,
our kids, our friends, our parents. And the verse that
I think touches on it best is Romans five eight.
(02:15):
But God shows his love for us in that while
we were still sinners, Christ died for us. And what
I actually should do is I should read the verses
that were read at our wedding. Those verses are Colossians
three twelve through seventeen. It says, therefore, as God's chosen people,
(02:37):
holy and dearly loved, clothe their selves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness,
and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another.
If any of you have a grievance against someone, forgive
as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues,
put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
(02:59):
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. Since
as members of one body, you were called to peace
and be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among
you richly as you teach and admonish one another with
all wisdom through psalms, hymns and songs from the spirit,
singing to God, with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever
you do, whether in word or deed, do it all
(03:22):
in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to
God the Father through him. So it's very clear on
how we are supposed to love others as God's chosen people.
But the motivation for loving needs to come from Jesus,
(03:43):
because I think if we serve, serve, serve, service, serve,
we can get bitter and think what's in it for me?
What about me? What can I get served? How can
I get something out of this? And that is not
the right mindset, That is not the right frame of
mind to be serving it. And we must point back
(04:06):
to Jesus to remember our purpose and intention in serving,
and our service should really look like this. Think of
an elderly couple, think of seventy eighty nine year old couple.
Let's say someone is aging and doesn't have the ability
(04:32):
to do what they once did, whether that's the husband
or wife, which means the other that is still fresher,
more agile, needs to serve in a whole new way.
And when that person is serving their husband or wife,
that person is not going to be served in return.
(04:58):
They are serving and love lo their spouse because they
love their spouse and are not trying to get something
in return because the other spouse can't do it. And
that's the way we should serve others. We should serve
others without this idea in our head that we're going
to get something in return. And that's how Jesus loved us.
(05:19):
When Jesus died on the cross, he took on our
sin a perfect man, served us on the cross, died
for our sins, and resurrected three days later. Do you
think Jesus felt in that moment like serving the people
that were killing him and crucifying him. Do you think
(05:41):
Jesus had those butterfly feelings of serving others while he
was being pinned to a cross. He did it out
of love for us and didn't expect anything in return.
While we were still sinners. Christ died for us. Our
motivation for serving is to do what Jesus did for us.
(06:05):
It's easy to get frustrated and bitter with not getting
served in return. But that's why we point to Jesus
and remember what he got in return for being killed
on the cross. Jesus is our motivation for serving. He
(06:26):
died on the cross knowing we could not give him
anything in return because we are unworthy of his greatness.
But that's called Jesus's mercy. We deserve hell, and he
withheld that punishment from us because he loves us so much.
(06:48):
And that's our motivation for serving. Just like an elderly
couple serves their spouse knowing they can't get anything in return.
That should be the intention kind our service, not expecting
anything in return. Thank you for choosing Jesus today, and
I hope the Holy Spirit will done more and more
about our Lord and Savior and Jesus Christ.
