Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome into episode number seventy one of Bring Heaven Down.
My name is Tim and I'm the host of this
daily devotional show. Thank you for choosing Jesus today. Make
sure you rate and review the show, and follow the
show wherever you're listening to this podcast. We are continuing
in our Exodus chapter three series this morning, the story
(00:25):
of Moses and the Burning Bush. So grab your favorite
drink or cup of coffee and let's bring Heaven a
little closer together. All right. The verses we will be
focusing on today verses eleven through thirteen, But just to
(00:45):
play ketch up, we will start at verse one. It
says this, Now Moses was tending the flock of Jeathrow,
his father in law, the priest of Midigan, and he
led the flock to the far side of the wilderness
and came to Hereb, the mountain of God. There the
Angel of the Lord appeared to him and flames the
fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the
(01:06):
bush was on fire, it did not burn up. So
Moses thought, I will go over and see this strange sight.
Why the bush does not burn up? When the Lord
saw that he had gone over to look, God called
him from within the bush Moses Moses, and Moses said
here I am, do not come any closer. God said,
take off your sandals, for the place where you are
standing is holy ground. Then he said, I am the
(01:30):
God of your Father, the God of Abraham, the God
of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. At this Moses
hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.
The Lord said, I have indeed seen the misery of
my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out
because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about
their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them
(01:51):
from the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them
up out of that land into a good and spacious
land alone and flowing with milk and honey, the home
of the Canaanites, Hittites, Emirates, parisites Hibites, and Jebizites. And
now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and
I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them.
(02:13):
So now go, I am sending you to Pharaoh to
bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt. But Moses
said to God, this is verse eleven. Who am I
that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites
out of Egypt. And God said, I will be with you,
(02:36):
and this will be the sign to you that it
is I who have sent you. When you have brought
the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on
this mountain. So those are the verses we're going to
focus on. And verse eleven says who am I that
I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out
(02:57):
of Egypt. You might think that it's a response of
humility from Moses saying who am I that I should
do this task? But really what Moses is saying is
Lord God, I am doubting that I am the person
(03:24):
that should be responsible to carry out this task God.
Maybe it should be somebody else. And I have a
story like this. I'm a part time youth pastor at
our church in Minnesota called Transformed Church, and four years ago,
(03:46):
the Lord was putting this call on my heart every
time I opened up scripture. It was very consistent, leave
your boat of comfort and jump into a boat of faith.
And I was very scared, and I put it away
for a while because I did not know what that
looked like. I was about to get married and the
(04:07):
last thing that I wanted to do before I got married,
or as I was getting married, was go to school,
get in more college debt, just to get a degree
that doesn't pay a ton of money. I wanted to
be a provider for our family and to go to
(04:28):
college again and potentially leave my full time job that
I worked so hard for for years in Washington, d c.
And before that, and even now it was not a
possibility in my mind. I rationalized it and said, no,
God not doing it. I was doubting God's faithfulness and
(04:54):
I was not trusting in him during that period of time.
I put it away, and then God got my attention.
I had one of the worst nights of sleep I
have ever had in my entire life, and it literally
felt like I was going through spiritual warfare that night.
(05:16):
And the next day, after putting it off for three months,
I called our pastor and said, Hey, the Lord is
putting this on my heart. Your thoughts, what do you think?
And he responded with words that I will never forget
because this showed just how faithful God was. He said,
(05:41):
I was just talking to my wife and we were
thinking about asking you to lead the youth program at
our church, which hadn't started yet. I was going to
start the youth program at Transformed Church. And in that
moment I could not do anything else except praise God
(06:01):
and be marveled at God at the same time, because
the same thing that he was putting on my mind
and my heart, he also put on our lead pastor's
mind and heart. He wasn't calling me to move across
the country or go to college again, or do this
(06:24):
uncomfortable thing. He was calling me to call my lead
pastor and say, this is on my heart. What do
you say about that? And then he called me to
step into that role. And we are seeing Moses doing
the same thing. He say, Lord, somebody else, this ain't
for me. I am a man that's slow of speech.
I'm not responsible for this. I'm not called to do this.
(06:49):
I can't stand up against Pharaoh. And then the Lord
responds in verse twelve, and the Lord says, and God said,
I will be with you, and this will be the
sign to you that it is I who have sent you.
When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you
will worship God on this mountain. God shows us faithfulness
(07:11):
to Moses and promises to be with him through the process,
and the entire purpose of the story points to verse twelve.
At the end, when you have brought the people out
of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain. Our
job is to glorify God, and God's purpose in freeing
(07:34):
the Israelites out of Egypt was to come to this
mountain and worship God, because our job is to exalt God,
worship God, praise God, and freeing the Israelites from Egyptian
(07:55):
captivity is obviously important, but the purpose behind freeing the
Israelite people is to worship God on this mountain, and
that is our job as followers of Jesus, to worship
(08:20):
God on the mountain through sufferings, through trials, through difficulties,
through his faithfulness as he took us out of trouble
or danger, as He's carrying us through the next obstacle
in life. Our job is to worship God on the
(08:44):
mountain and to remember how He carried us through it.
That is the purpose of our life, to glorify and
exalt God through everything and in everything we do. And
that's why he called Moses to take the Israelite people
(09:05):
out of Egyptian slavery. The Israelites were his people. He
loved his people. Their Christ reached God, and he tells
Moses in verse twelve of chapter three in Exodus, I
will be with you, and this will be the sign
to you that it is I who have sent you.
When you have brought the people out of Egypty will
(09:27):
worship God on this mountain. That's his faithfulness and it
shows up time and time again. Thank you for choosing
Jesus today and I helped the Holy Spirit will deal
more and more about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
