(00:46):
the number seven at gmail dot com. We are continuing
our Moses and Burning Bush series this morning, so if
you want to follow along, open up your Bibles our
phones to Exodus chapter three, versus one, and we are
(01:06):
going to touch on verses thirteen and fourteen this morning.
So grab your favorite drink or cup of coffee and
let's bring Heaven a little closer together. Now, Moses was
tending the flock of Jath throw his father in law,
(01:27):
the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to
the far side of the wilderness and came to Herrib,
the Mountain of God. There, the Angel of the Lord
appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush.
Moses saw that though the bush was on fire, it
did not burn up. So Moses thought, I will go
over and see this strange sight. Why the bush does
(01:49):
not burn up. When the Lord saw that he had
gone over to look, God called to him from within
the bush Moses Moses, and Moses said here I am,
do not come any closer. God said, take off your sandals,
for the place where you are standing is holy ground.
Then he said, I am the God of your father,
the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the
(02:10):
God of Jacob. At this Moses hid his face because
he is afraid to look at God. The Lord said,
I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt.
I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers,
and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have
come down to rescue them from the hand of the
Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land
(02:32):
into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with
milk and honey. The home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amirites,
parisites Hibites, and Jebusites. And now the cry of the
Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way
the Egyptians are oppressing them. So now go, I am
sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites,
(02:53):
out of Egypt. But Moses said to God, who am I?
That I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites
out of Egypt? And God said, I will be with you,
and this will be the sign to you that it
is I who have sent you. When you have brought
the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on
this mountain. Versus thirteen. Moses said to God, suppose I
(03:19):
go to the Israelites and say to them, the God
of your fathers has sent me to you. And they
asked me what is his name? Then what shall I
tell them? God said to Moses, I am who I am?
This is what you are to say to the Israelites.
I AM has sent me to you. So that ends
(03:44):
verse fourteen. So Verses thirteen and fourteen on the focus
verses for today, we are basically analyzing and examining what
it means to be I Am. And I had to
study this because for the longest time I did not
(04:07):
understand why God told Moses to tell the Egyptians that
I AM has sent you, because in my mind that's
sinful and not full of God's wisdom. I Am is confusing,
(04:30):
But then you do a little study, you do some research,
and it becomes clear. I Am is the ultimate statement
of self sufficiency, self existence, and immediate presence. God's existence
is not contingent upon anyone else, His plans are not
(04:53):
contingent upon any circumstances. He promises that he will be
what he will be, That is, he will be the
eternally constant God. He stands, ever present and unchangeable, completely
sufficient in himself to do what he wills to do
(05:14):
and to accomplish what he wills to accomplish. When God
identified himself as I am who I am, he stated
that no matter when or where, he is there. And
what's also amazing is how in the New Testament, when
(05:35):
Jesus was being questioned by the Pharisees and he needed
to respond and share who he was, Jesus used these
same words as the words God told Moses in the
Burning Bush. Jesus referred to himself as I am, and
(06:01):
the explanation of what it means to be I am
really makes it clear, because God's existence is not contingent
upon anyone else. Sometimes what we do is we apply
the same standard about us to God. How was God created?
(06:27):
Where did God come from? We don't have to answer
those questions about God because God is God, and God
does not apply to the same standards that we do.
Because He created us and he created the world, it
(06:48):
says that he stands, ever present, unchangeable, completely sufficient in himself.
God does not live or applied by the same standards
that we do, and it is not right to try
(07:11):
to attempt to do that, because if we are, then
we are degrading just how sovereign and powerful God is.
So I hope this podcast was encouraging for you today,
and I hope you learned more and more about our
(07:32):
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
