story of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt takes

(00:23):
a dramatic turn in the part we are covering today,
So grab your favorite drink or cup of coffee, and
let's bring Heaven a little closer together. Now we are
going to be in chapter fourteen, and we're also going

(00:47):
to be at the end of chapter thirteen in the
Book of Exodus, if you're looking to follow along with
what I am reading. In verses seventeen of chapter thirteen,

(01:08):
it says this, when Pharaoh let the people go, God
did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country,
though that was shorter, for God said if they faced war,
they might change their minds and return to Egypt. So
God let the people around by the desert road toward

(01:31):
the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of Egypt,
ready for battle. Moses took the bones of Joseph with him,
because Joseph had made the Israelites swear an oath. He
had said, God will surely come to your aid, and
then you will carry my bones with you from this place.

(01:52):
After leaving Suketh, they camped at Ethel on the edge
of the desert. By day, the Lord went ahead of
them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on
their way, and by night in a pillar of fire
to give them light, so that they could travel by
day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day
nor the pillar of fire by night left its place

(02:14):
in front of the people. That ends chapter thirteen. So
real quick to cover what we're reading here, God said, Israelites,
you are going to take the long way around, because

(02:35):
he says if they faced war, the Israelites might change
their minds and return to Egypt. So God led the
Israelite people the long way around and out of Egypt,
so that they had no choice but to continue forward

(02:55):
towards their freedom. And not only then, but God paved
a way for them to continue forward by creating a
pillar of fire to give them light so that they
could travel by day or night. And it also guided

(03:16):
them neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the
pillar of fire by night left its place in front
of the people. And here's where we see the sudden
change of events from the Israelite people. In verses ten
of chapter fourteen, it says as Pharaoh approached, the Israelites

(03:41):
looked up and there were the Egyptians marching after them.
They were terrified and cried out to the Lord. Again.
Here's why the Lord led them around the long way,
because if the Israelites saw the Egyptians coming, they would
have turned back and surrendered instead of continuing to follow

(04:03):
Moses and go towards their freedom. In verse eleven, they
said to Moses, the Israelite people, was it because there
were no grays in Egypt that you brought us to
the desert to die? What have you done to us
by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn't we say to
you in Egypt, leave us alone, let us serve the Egyptians.

(04:27):
It would have been better for us to serve the
Egyptians than to die in the desert. So we see
a sudden shift by the Israelite people, doubting Moses, doubting
God and saying, I would have rather stayed serving being

(04:50):
a slave in Egypt than dying in the desert, and
Moses responds in verse thirteen, do not be afraid. Stand firm,
and you will see the deliverance the Lord. Capital Lord
will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you
will never see again. The Lord will fight for you.

(05:13):
You need only to be still. Then, the Lord said
to Moses, why are you crying out to me? Tell
the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch
out your hand over the sea to divide the water,
so that the Israelites can go through the sea on
dry ground. I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians

(05:34):
so that they will go in after them. And I
will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army. Throw
his chariots and his horsemen. The Egyptians will know that
I am the Lord when I gain glory through Pharaoh,
his chariots and his horsemen. Which is the entire point

(05:55):
of our life, and this story to give God glory.
God wants the glory. Why because God knows he deserves
the glory. God exalts himself because God is perfect, and

(06:16):
there is nobody to exalt but himself Verse nineteen. Then
the Angel of God, who had been traveling in front
of Israel's army, withdrew and went behind them. The Pillar
of Cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them,
coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night,

(06:38):
the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light
to the other, so neither went near the other all
night long. Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea,
and all that night the Lord drove the sea back
with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land.

(07:00):
Were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on
dry ground, with a wall of water on their right
and on their left. The Egyptians pursued them, and all
Pharaoh's horses and chariots and horsemen followed them into the sea.
During the last watch of the night, the Lord looked
down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the
Egyptian army and threw it into confusion. He jammed the

(07:24):
wheels of their chariots so that they had difficulty driving,
and the Egyptians said, let's get away from the Israelites.
The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt. Then the
Lord said to Moses, stretch out your hand over the sea,
so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians
and their chariots and horsemen. Moses stretched out his hand
over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back

(07:46):
to its place. The Egyptians were flinging toward it, and
the Lord swept them into the sea. The water flowed
back and covered the chariots and horsemen, the entire army
of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea.
Not one of them survived, But the Israelites went through
the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water
on their right and on their left. That day, the

(08:09):
Lord saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and
Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. And
when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the Lord
displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and
put their trust in him and in Moses, his servant.
So we see a range of emotions from the Israelite people.

(08:33):
Why did you take us out of Egypt? We are
gonna die in the desert. We told you to leave
us there. The Israelite people wanted to stay enslaved rather
than risk and follow God. After all he did to

(08:56):
release the people and potentially towards their freedom. And then
God performs another miracle by creating a wall of smoke

(09:17):
between the Egyptian army and the Israelite people to protect
them all night long. And then he opens up the
sea and the Israelites are witnessing all of this. And
then in thirty one God gets the glory for the
miracles that he performed, the ten plagues of miracles, the

(09:40):
pillar of smoke by day and by night, and the
sea splitting. And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand
of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared
the Lord and put their trust in him and in
Moses his servant. The podcast will be right back after

(10:02):
a quick break. Now, what is easy to do in
the story is to look at the Israelite people and say,
what were you thinking? Why did you not understand and
see God's glory. It's easy to do that when you
look back. It's easy to do that when you have
the rest of the story to see and to look

(10:23):
back on. But if you were enslaved for four hundred years,
a man named Moses, led by God, led you out
of slavery, and you took the long way around. I'd
be like, dude, what's going on, Let's take the quick way.
Why are we taking the long Let's go the fast shortcut.

(10:44):
Why are we taking the long way around? This is ridiculous.
I would have been mumbling and grumbling after being enslaved
for four hundred years as well, I would have been
doubting this plan. Then he'd come up to the Red Sea.
The Egyptians are charging. You know you're dead, and you
know you're not walking all the way back around. You're
probably thinking this sucks. I'm about to die in the desert.

(11:08):
I would have rather lived as a slave than die
in the middle of the desert. And then God performs
another miracle and their faces have to be astonished by
the sight of the Red Sea and the pillar of
smoke separating the Egyptians and the Israelite people in this moment,

(11:31):
and he opens up the Red Sea. So there are
so many different range of emotions that we are witnessing
during the course of the story. We're leaving, We're saved.
God freed us. They get to the Red Sea. We're dead.

(11:53):
This sucks. I'd rather lived. The Red Sea opens, We're saved,
praise Jesus. And what's it's so crazy is that this
is not the end of the range of emotions of
God's people. We are about to see another sudden shift
from the Israelite people on Monday when this podcast continues.

(12:17):
What a story. It's crazy how you can put your
trust in the Lord so easily and then you can
forget so quickly, almost sounds like us. Thank you for
choosing Jesus today and if you have a question, email
the show Bring Heaven Down number seven at gmail dot com.

(12:38):
I hope the Holy spirits more and more about our
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
