(00:25):
today's episode, I want to share a recent conviction that
I've had about my time with the Lord and also
about this podcast, because it really does kind of reflect
each other. So grab your favorite drinker, cup of coffee,
and let's bring Heaven a little closer together. I was
(00:54):
having a conversation with one of our new hires, a
Transform Church, because I'm one of the youth pastors. I'm
part time and we just hired a full time youth pastor,
so we're kind of a duo. We work together to
bring Jesus into kids' lives. And we're talking about the
(01:17):
empty cup feeling, meaning you go throughout your day and
if you hadn't spent time with Jesus one on one,
you feel a little dreamed. Not just a little dreamed,
but it don't have that sense of energy purpose as
(01:40):
you would if you spent time with Jesus one on
one and there really is no replacing that. And I've
really done a poor job of making sure that I
have purposeful one on one time with Jesus. And you
(02:00):
might think that's ridiculous because I record this podcast Monday
through Friday and it gets released Monday through Friday. But
I've also done a poor job of relying fully on
the Holy Spirit to do this podcast the best that
(02:21):
God would want me to. And this morning, I woke
up out of bed at three point thirty am in
the morning because I was working on some other projects
and I wanted to get projects done before my wife
left for work, and I need to get my work
done before I take care of our kids. And what
I did this morning is I took five minutes out
(02:46):
of my morning and open up my Bible to Philippians
chapter one. I was actually intending to read Ephesian chapter
one or Galatians, but I opened up the Bible. It
opened up to Philippians, and it said exactly what I
needed to read. It says this in Philippians chapter one,
(03:07):
versus nine. This is the apostle Paul writing. He says this,
and this is my prayer that your love may abound
more and more in knowledge and death of insight, so
that you may be able to discern what is best
and maybe pure and blameless until the day of Christ,
(03:28):
filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus
Christ to the glory and praise of God. What he's
saying is that with more knowledge and death of insight
comes the ability to discern, and comes the ability to
love Jesus more. And that is so accurate because I
(03:51):
think sometimes what I do and what we do is
we almost have different rules with God and that relationship
then relationships with others around us. But the same principles apply.
If you want to be close to a friend, if
you want to have a best friend, you need to
(04:12):
check in on that person, see how they're doing, listen
to them, talk to them, spend time with them. And
if you don't, you're not gonna know what's going on
in their life. You're not going to feel close to
that person. Your relationship with that person is going to
(04:33):
fall by the wayside because you're not being intentional in
that relationship with them. And the same principles apply to Jesus.
If we are not spending time with Jesus daily we
are not going to know Jesus as much as we
would if we did spend that time daily. We are
(04:54):
not going to have the knowledge or the insights or
the discernment if we don't spend time with g Jesus daily.
And I record this podcast every day, but so many
times when I record this, I'm not in my Bible. First,
I'll google some verses, I'll have a thought, and then
I'll apply that thought, and the Holy Spirit is in
(05:17):
my heart. So the Holy Spirit is moving, but I
feel like I'm not getting the best outcome because I'm
not first diving into God's word and seeing what he
has to say and allowing that knowledge and insights to
(05:39):
fill me up. We can be grateful that Jesus is
like one of those friends if you haven't seen them
for five to ten years, you can pick up right
where you're left off. Jesus is waiting for us for
that relationship. And I read my Bible this morning by myself,
(05:59):
one on one in our kitchen at three point thirty
this morning for the first time in a few weeks,
and it felt like our relationship was right back to
where it was before. So don't give up, hope, open
up scripture and really think about dedicating that intentional one
on one time because you can't replace it. Church is
(06:19):
great on Sundays, Bible studies are awesome, but that one
on one relationship with Jesus, reading his word, being in prayer,
having that discernment, allowing that knowledge and love of Jesus
to really soak into your mind and heart is going
(06:42):
to be a big difference. And it's gonna make a
change because then your cup is going to be filled,
and your cup for others is going to be different,
meaning you're gonna have patience, You're gonna have forgiveness, gonna
have an ability to really handle more when you fill
(07:06):
up yourselves with Jesus. So I just wanted to challenge
you and I wanted to be honest with you about
my own individual walk, because yes, I do these Monday
through Friday, but it doesn't mean that I am fully
doing it to the best that God wants me to
do it. And I'm sorry for that. But today and
(07:29):
in the future, my goal is to really spend some
more time in the world, getting up five minutes earlier
before my kids do, and read God's word and really
digest it. So that's what I wanted to say today.
Thank you for choosing Jesus, and I hope the Holy
Spirit reveals more and more about our Lord and Savior,
(07:49):
Jesus Christ and you can draw closer to him today
