Speaker 3 (00:11):
Text to seventy eight five niney two says whenever I
drop off clothes at the clothing bank, for some reason,
I do it quickly, like I'm disposing of a body,
hop back into the car and speed off.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
For some reason, I agree with that.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Yeah, rare times I do.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
It's just like, Okay, let's get out of here, so
I wait for my receipt.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
I want everybody to see that I'm being charitable over here.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Hello, my name is Brooke Fox. Know about getting rid
of your old crap? It's cheer well here.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
The good news is you can do your confessions quick
and dirty on the mass speaker. Get in, get out,
and get on with your life. And we have a
woman today who wants to come clean about something. She's
chosen to go by the name Monica today. So Monica,
welcome to the show.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
We'll take all of your old discards. Yeah, want to
get rid of Okay, however.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
You want to do it quick and dirty or long
and drawn out, we're ready, voice changers on. You are
the mass speaker, So let's hear your confession.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Well to start, I own a restaurant.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
It's always interesting when business owners don't want to out
themselves and promote the restaurant.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yeah, well, I'm really embarrassed about what happened.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Did you ask Jose to do a food review and
he kept moaning the entire time?

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah, that would have been much better than what happened.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
What happened?

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Wait a minute, I.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Sell through this weird scam?

Speaker 2 (01:40):
I oh no, oh man, what happened?

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Yeah, I'm glad you're hiding my voice because my employees
don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Oh, they're about to be out of work because the
restaurant's going under.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
What was it, Well, let me just tell it. You'll see.
So this happened a few months ago. I had a
call from a guy who says he wants to rent
out our restaurant for the afternoon. Okay, he's pretty normal, right.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Uh huh. Yeah, they want to throw an event. I mean,
I assume you would obviously be the caterer.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Yeah, right, exactly. So he wanted to celebrate his wife
surprise to be his birthday.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
You if your husband tried to do something.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Oh yeah, okay.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Maybe it's coming up in the future.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Shut everything coming up for all of us in the future.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Go on. So I'm like, oh, great, perfect, And then
they tell me, because this party is at your establishment,
the band has to be paid through you, and I'll
reimburse you, so like the person would reimburse usu hur.

(02:51):
And they say because that way it looks legit to
the band, like a real venue, is what they said.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Okay, I guess that makes sense in a way, like
if they're booking a big name band or you know,
a professional whatever, they want to make sure that they're
getting hired for a real event, right, I can kind
of see that.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
So you agreed to it.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Yes, So they tell me that I just need to
wire them three thousand dollars.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
Okay, fake idea, Yes, that's anyone says you need to
wire them money and it is red flag city.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Oh no, So I wire over the three grand and
never hear from them again. I tried calling them as
the date approaches, nor response. Of course, I thought there
was a misunderstanding or a miscommunication, maybe the wrong date.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Maybe the band broke up. Sometimes, you know, one guy
in the band thinks that he's too big for himself
and he starts to go out on his own.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Yeah, so the whole birthday party was canceled.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Yeah, Harry Styles, round it for you.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
When did you realized that there wasn't going to be
a party when.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
They weren't responding to me. I went out of my
way to then research the band, which was I think
called like Electric Waffle or something from but they existed.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Yeah, anything, it sucks.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
It's like you wired the money you can't even like
talk to your bank about. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
So basically a couple of weeks later, I get a
call from some other person. Yes, and this other person
is telling me that they want to rent out our
space for a wedding anniversary.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yeah, and they want me on Pancake to play.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Well, so they say, just one problem. The band says
that they need the money wired to them.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
But this one's legit, full cash.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
So I didn't fall for it that time, but now, okay,
like every month from a random person trying to pull
this exact yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Well they know you'll fall for it.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Oh my god.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Oh. It's also kind of funny to think there's like
a whole line of a band's dying to play at
her restaurant one time started the Maroon five sounds like
it's a prank. Okay, Billy I last right, that doesn't
even sound real.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
My thought is like, either word got out that I'm
a sucker, or there's a lot of people out there
doing this. I guess to a bunch of restaurants.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
And I think there's like some sort of scammer Excel
spreadsheet where your name got put on it with the naive.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
So I just wanted to take this opportunity to say,
if you are a restaurant owner or a venue owner,
don't fall for this.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
Just anybody. Don't wire money to some.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Way you do. I don't know if i'd wire money
to people I do know elections.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Yeah, none of us are getting money from Brooklyn. Yeah,
I'm sorry that happened to you, Monica, but thank you
for confessing and getting the message out and text into
seventy five nine too. If you have a confession you've
been holding on to weekend hydro Identity, mask your voice
and make you the next mass speaker phone towns coming
out

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Brook and Jeffrey in the morning.
