Speaker 1 (00:01):
The holidays are meant for us to spend time with
friends and family. Yeah, good food for sure, to laugh
and to blackout and if you can remember, what if
a family member though overhears something that they were not
supposed to hear, and suddenly Christmas is going to be

(00:23):
extra weird and dramatic this year, unless you make a
phone call on our show to deal with it first.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
That's the hope.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Because one of our listeners needs help thanks to the
weird conversation she accidentally overheard, and it involves her boyfriend's mom.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
You're going to find out.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
It's happening in your awkward Tuesday phone call right after this.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
It's awkward, it's Tuesday. It's awkward Tuesday phone call.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Relationship problems. We're not really familiar with that topic on
this show.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
That's like all we do.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Most people call us during our Great Girlfriends and Perfect
Boyfriends the bragging segment.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah problem, I know, it's so hard.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Yeah they're too perfect.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Today we're gonna do something a little bit different for
us and talk to a listener who says they would
have been on that Perfect Boyfriend's segment, but they just
got blindsided by something and they need our help before
they have this awkward discussion. So let's welcome Erica to
our show. Hey, Erica, how you doing.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Hi guys, I'm okay. I mean it's great.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Big pause there. I hope we can help you.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
Me too, all right, I'm just feeling super miserable. Actually,
like I'm watching my relationship end right before my eyes
and I can't do anything about it.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
Oh God, God, And you don't want it to end? No, okay,
just checking.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Okay, you never know, true, you know books in the
other side of that conversation.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
So sorry, I'm sorry, you're going through a hard time
and what's going on?

Speaker 4 (02:10):
Okay. So, like there's a little bit of a backstory
getting into it, because, like my friend asked me to
watch her kid this past weekend, so we set them
up in our guest room with a baby monitor, and
like afterwards, we forgot to take the baby monitor out.

Speaker 5 (02:23):
Okay, wait, wait, so you had a baby monitor in
the guest room, that's all that matters.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
Yeah, Okay, So the next day, my boyfriend's momb came
over and while I was down in the basement doing
the laundry, the baby monitor was still in there and
it was on I forgot to turn it off, and
I heard my boyfriend talking to his mom. Yeah, and
like I know that they had no idea that I

(02:48):
could hear them because they know they were kind of
like talking in a hush tone and like arguing with
each other.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Were they saying, like, God, she's just such the perfect woman.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yeah, she's like, why weren't you proposed yet? Honey?

Speaker 6 (03:00):
Yeah, I wish.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
I mean, I know you should have eavesdrop right right.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Oh, I would totally eavesdrop in that situation.

Speaker 7 (03:08):
Don't feel bad. That's the universe handing you this.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Yes, thank you, Josey.

Speaker 8 (03:12):
You're just yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
I mean I was curious when, like it felt like
she the mom was waiting for me to leave the
room to say something, So, you know, I listened in
and it became pretty clear that they were arguing about me.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Okay, oh god, about what?

Speaker 6 (03:30):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (03:31):
So I heard his mom say, I don't want her
coming over for the holidays?

Speaker 6 (03:35):
Is here?

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Oh God?

Speaker 7 (03:38):
Somebody?

Speaker 3 (03:39):
What's your boyfriend's name?

Speaker 6 (03:40):
By the way, it's Jack.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
Did you guys have plans to spend the holidays together
with his family?

Speaker 6 (03:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (03:48):
I mean, like usually we go back and forth and
it's his family's year.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Okay, so it sounds like you guys have been together
for a couple of years. What did his mom say.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
She was being pretty specific about, like why she didn't
want me there, Like he said that I was loud
and that I eat all the snacks and that I'm
really messy.

Speaker 7 (04:08):
You would not want any of us over there?

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Then the same thing.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
I don't want to be rude here, but do you
eat all of the snacks when you go over to
their house?

Speaker 7 (04:18):
All of them?

Speaker 4 (04:21):
I mean, I ate a bunch of snacks last year,
but I didn't realize there was a limit on snacking totally.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
And you're bored? I mean, were you like so many snacks?

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Look, it's not fair for you to project your family
life onto her.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Okay, you stay with your in laws.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
My in laws do not eat very much, and I
am so hungry all the time when I'm over.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
There, So I get you.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
It's just rude when you tell them to go back
to the store for more chocolate colored that aside. I
know that must be terrible to hear through the baby monitor,
of all things.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
Yeah, I mean, that wasn't even the worst thing. She
said that his nieces are scared of and like what
I scare children? Apparently?

Speaker 5 (05:04):
Like can I ask up until this point, did you
think it was all roses with his family?

Speaker 4 (05:11):
I mean, I know, getting to know another person's like
family quirks their hard. But I thought I was doing okay.
Like I thought I was driving all right.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
And when you walk by schools, do the children normally
run away from the fencing terror?

Speaker 4 (05:25):
No, we were just babysitting last weekend and nobody was
terrified of me.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
So, and what did your boyfriend have anything to say
during with his mom? Or was he agreeing with her?

Speaker 4 (05:36):
He was trying to defend me, but like he couldn't.
He didn't really get a lot of words in edgewise.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Oh God.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
And then his mom was like, can't she just go
stay somewhere else for Christmas?

Speaker 9 (05:47):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (05:48):
And then she was like threatening him. She was like,
don't you dare tell Erica And I'm really really upset.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
I don't blame you.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
Yeah, I like left the house to get out of
the situation. When went that in my car and like
tried to process and like I texted him that I
wasn't feeling well because I didn't want to like talk
to him at that moment. I was just feeling a
lot of feelings and like, well, his mom left a
little while later, and she like waved at me like
nothing was wrong.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Right.

Speaker 7 (06:18):
Well, in her defense, she didn't know that you're listening,
So she's being direct to her son and quick about it,
just getting to the point.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
And yeah, of course, if she knew.

Speaker 7 (06:27):
You were listening, she would have been nicer.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
It's just not.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Fortunate that she had to hear that conversation about maybe
it's kind of a blessing that you overheard it in him.

Speaker 5 (06:35):
Like years into this relationship, you guys are living together.
I mean, you're moving towards marriage and making this woman
your mother in law.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
Yeah, god, I mean even if he loves me, like,
I don't know if we've got a future going forward.
I mean, if his mom really feels that way, it's
just like that's not going to work.

Speaker 7 (06:58):
So has he told you you're not welcome yet? Like,
do you know quote unquote no yet? You know what
I mean?

Speaker 5 (07:04):
Like, right, has he passed on the message from the
mom in the nice way?

Speaker 9 (07:08):
No?

Speaker 4 (07:08):
I'm like this happened like three days ago, and like,
of course he's been surprisingly busy and never has the
time to like hang out or talk, because I'm sure
he's like trying to think about how to tell me this.
But like I am just sitting on all of this emotion,
and I like I need to talk to him, and
I now ish, you know, and I don't know. I

(07:31):
just need help.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
So you want us to call your boyfriend for you here,
so that you could tell him that you overheard the conversation.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Yeah, oh man, Yeah, you gotta do it. There's no
way around it.

Speaker 7 (07:44):
Yeah, And you can't just sit and wait and.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
Stew I know, but he's gonna be He's not gonna
be happy because it puts him in such a bad position,
you know, to choose basically between his mom and his girlfriend.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
It's a rough choice.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
So maybe while we have a little break here, you
go down like a whole bag of.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Debbie's cakes, and then we'll come back.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
We'll give you some advice and let you make your
awkward Tuesday phone call to your boyfriend.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Right after this.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Okay, I've already eaten a couple of secs all.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Doing it. We'll come back right after this. Hold on,
it's awkward.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
It's awkward Tuesday phone call. If you're just joining us.
We have a listener on the phone. Her name is
Erica and she has a boyfriend of a few years.
They lived together, so safe to say they're pretty close
and you know, you know. But the other day her
boyfriend's mom was over and Erica overheard a conversation via

(08:37):
baby monitor that her maybe future mom in law does
not want her coming.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Over for Christmas this year.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
The reason apparently, she eats all the snacks, scares all
the kids, and is too loud.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
At least that's what she heard from the mouth.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
It's like the cookie monster.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
And obviously that's a tough thing to hear. So she
he's not spoken to her boyfriend about this yet, which
is why she's asked us to give her a little
bit of advice before she reaches out to him. And look,
nobody understands what it's like to spend the holidays with
an in law who doesn't really like you more than Brooke.
Oh dude, so Brooke, you are the right person to
ask advice for here.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
What do you got?

Speaker 5 (09:18):
Well, first, Erica, I just got to say you are
not alone. There has not been a mother in law
in the world that has not talked crap about their
little baby significant other. Okay, I mean, unfortunately, you're the
one that has to hear it. Most people don't actually
hear what mother in laws really think, and you had
to hear it. So I just think, I mean, honestly,
my only advice is when you talk to your boyfriend,

(09:40):
do not feel bad about accidentally overhearing this conversation. That
is not your fault. It's not something you wanted to hear.
And for goodness sakes, you'll bring your own snacks.

Speaker 4 (09:52):
Yeah, that's totally fair. Anything.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
You should have been eavesdropping on their conversations earlier, Jose,
what do you think she should do?

Speaker 7 (09:58):
Just remember who you're mad. The mom is the bad guy. Technically,
that's true.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
That's good decisions.

Speaker 7 (10:05):
Your boyfriend's just trying to like organize this situation he's in.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
He's like the middle child keeping the peace exactly.

Speaker 7 (10:11):
So just be aware of your emotions. Don't go at
him super hard or aggressive.

Speaker 10 (10:16):
Unless he said something stupid.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Does that help you a little bit?

Speaker 7 (10:22):
Erica?

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Yeah, that's pretty solid advice. I mean, you're right, it's
not like he was trying to defend me. I mean
it's hard to defend against your mom.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Yeah, anything all right.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
I can't believe we actually give some solid advice today,
So I'm counting this as a win already. Hopefully we
can actually make this conversation go smoothly for you. But
I'm gonna dial your boyfriend's number. We're gonna step back
and let you do this, Okay. We're going to be
here for support in case you need us.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Yeah, we're here. Yes, you are not alone.

Speaker 4 (10:51):
Thank you?

Speaker 2 (10:51):
All right?

Speaker 9 (10:52):
Hello, Hey babe, Hello, Hello, babe.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
Can you hear me?

Speaker 5 (11:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (11:14):
Hi, right now. I recognize that almost didn't even answer.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
I'm just I'm on a work line. I'm just like
in a quiet room. I really needed to talk to you, okay.

Speaker 8 (11:24):
Yeah, is everything okay?

Speaker 4 (11:27):
Well, like, I know we've been able to talk in
like a couple of days, but this is like pretty
important because I'm just you know, uh, I'm worried about
us actually us what why?

Speaker 8 (11:43):
What's going on?

Speaker 9 (11:44):
It's just like.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
Like you mean so much to me, and I'm just
kind of like devastated. I don't know what.

Speaker 8 (11:52):
To do, Babe, What is going on right now? You're
scaring me.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Remember when your mom was over the other day, Yeah, yeah,
and I went downstairs to do some laundry for a bit.

Speaker 8 (12:07):
Okay, sure, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
And my friend Katrina was there the day before and
she had left her baby monitor in the guest room
and it was still on.

Speaker 8 (12:21):
Okay, so what but I'm getting conto.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
So I heard everything.

Speaker 8 (12:29):
Heard? What what are you talking about? Heard everything I heard?

Speaker 4 (12:33):
I heard you and your mom talking about Christmas this
year at your family's house.

Speaker 8 (12:39):
Uh, okay, Look, I'm sorry that you heard that, but
I I promise it's gonna be okay. I'm just I'm
thinking about how I'm gonna deal with it. Still, it's
gonna be fine, though, Seriously.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
What hell is it going to be fine?

Speaker 8 (12:55):
I know that my mom was being like out of
line about that, but I know she means, well, I
swear like it's gonna be okay.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
I just okay, I don't. I don't see it. We
can like stay together after this?

Speaker 8 (13:06):
Like, what what do you mean?

Speaker 9 (13:10):
I mean?

Speaker 4 (13:10):
Clearly your mom hates me?

Speaker 8 (13:14):
Whoa hold on?

Speaker 5 (13:16):
No, Like you heard her.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
She doesn't want me around for Christmas. She says I'm
messy and I eat too much and I scare.

Speaker 6 (13:23):
All the kids.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
Like she just wants me to go anywhere else for
the holidays.

Speaker 8 (13:28):
Babe, stop, Eric, Erica, Eric, she was talking about pebbles.
I wasn't talking about you.

Speaker 6 (13:40):
What our dog, dog dog going on?

Speaker 3 (13:50):
That makes so much sense to the children. Now, Oh
my god, oh.

Speaker 9 (13:59):
My god, does this going on?

Speaker 2 (14:01):
Hey Jack?

Speaker 1 (14:03):
Sorry, man, you're you're on the radio right now with
the show called Brook and Jeffrey in the.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
Morning, close to listening in on a baby monitor.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
Sorry, Oh my god, oh my god. We're doing a
segment that we call the Awkward Tuesday phone Call, which
we were trying to help Erica with this conversation with
you because she overheard what happened on the baby monitor
between you and your mom, and she.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Thought it was about her.

Speaker 9 (14:24):
Seriously, oh my god, anything you were in tears.

Speaker 4 (14:33):
Well now I feel silly.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
You can keep eating or.

Speaker 7 (14:39):
Keeping but I love babbles.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
No, are you sure that that's who she your mom
was talking about? She was talking about the dog.

Speaker 8 (14:49):
Yeah, obviously she was talking. I knew she was talking
about the dog. That's how it all started. The dog
was like jumping on her bed and stuff, and she
was already getting annoyed with with her like.

Speaker 7 (15:00):
Top of mind right now, She's like, by the way,
oh my god, so much sense.

Speaker 8 (15:05):
Erica hing hyper and my mom is you know, she's
getting older and she can't keep up.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Yeah, this is why your mom said, don't you dare
tell Erica, because Erica was gonna get upset if they
didn't bring the dog over.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Right.

Speaker 7 (15:19):
Oh, well, this was probably the best way to tell her.
Make her think it's in them. When you find out
the dog that's not bad at all.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
Well, yeah, there's definitely an amount of relief in that.
But like, what are we gonna do with pebbles?

Speaker 3 (15:30):
What is pebbles supposed to do? Well, they have these
great pet hotels. Maybe your mother in law can help
spring for.

Speaker 7 (15:36):
It, that's true, Or I can puppy sit.

Speaker 8 (15:38):
Oh god, can't you stay with your family, babe?

Speaker 4 (15:42):
Oh but I mean she would be sad, Chris, Eric,
she's a dog.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
It's the baby, I know.

Speaker 5 (15:51):
But like the dog doesn't know the difference between Christmas
or any other day.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Don't speak for what peple does not know.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
I mean, I don't say you have a future mother
in law that likes you, right right, she likes Erica.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
Yeah, that is true, that is very true. I'm very
relieved that it wasn't me eating too many snacks.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Feel free to eat as many Christmas candies as you
want this year, Erica does it's the Yeah, well, it
sounds like you guys are definitely at least closer to
resolving the issue. You just have to figure out what
to do with pebbles now. But Eric, you're allowed to
go over to the family's house for the holidays this year.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
Yeah. Wow, the relief you guys, the release.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
Don't be on the carpet because it could get you
banned next year, you.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Know, Christmas.

Speaker 5 (16:44):
Freaking Jeffrey in the morning. Oh man, how many of
these awkward Tuesdays end with just oh, it was a
terrible miscommunication. Yeah, like big assumptions, not the whole story. Yeah,
what a classic case of it. We do have comments
from this one, right, Alexis.

Speaker 10 (17:02):
Yeah, I mean speaking to that, someone said the second
that the mom said, don't you dare tell Erica, I
knew that they were talking about a dog. I'm surprised
that no one on the show thought to ask if
they had any pets that go with them to family fund.

Speaker 7 (17:15):
I think it'd be really funny if she was like, yeah,
plus he licks himself too much, Yeah, yeah, in front.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
Of this, then we would have clocked on. We needed
more details.

Speaker 10 (17:24):
There's a lot of faith in us a let Yeah, okay, yeah,
Oh my gosh, this is just hysterical.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
The boyfriend is such a sweetheart.

Speaker 9 (17:31):
This is a happy ending.

Speaker 10 (17:32):
Yeah, you have some really solid advice all around.

Speaker 9 (17:35):
You.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Don't hear that a lot? We don't know that comment.
We'll send that to the boss. Yeah, exactly, exactly. Hey,
thanks for being here.
