Speaker 1 (00:01):
Call It What It Is with Jessica Capshaw and Camil Luddington,
an iHeartRadio podcast. Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello Call It crew,
and welcome to another episode of Call It What It Is.

(00:22):
A Gray's Anatomy rewatch. We're breaking something down to episode
just so we know, just so everyone's aware.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
I am standing, I'm doing any podcast? Are you going
to stand the whole podcast?

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (00:36):
Because you know what, I just watched the show again.
It fired me.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah, okay, can I.

Speaker 4 (00:44):
Tell you why?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Well, we don't know the episode yet. You want to
tell them the episode that we just watched?

Speaker 1 (00:48):
I mean whatever, Sure, Okay, it's season twelve, episode twenty four,
Family Affairs, the season finale.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Why did it? What got your juice? Is flowing?

Speaker 4 (00:58):
These final the finales just get me? And then what
I realized about, well, I don't want to spoiler alert.
There was a certain moment where I audibly went no, yes,
me too audibly, and I was standing while I was
watching it. I was like, no, and this is an

(01:21):
episode that I'm not in a ton of not a
lot of capsut FaceTime. No, So I really did get
to enjoy watching it.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, so I don't. I mean, we'll see how this goes.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
I'm not sure how much I'm going to bring to this,
given that I don't have a lot of you know,
personal anecdotes, but you know, I just got all excited,
and so now I'm standing and I have a really
early call time tomorrow, so I'm gonna just keep myself.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Just keep waking, just keep telling. Here's what I was feeling.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
I was feeling like the episode started and I knew
that we were watching family affair. I truly had no
idea what this episode was about. I was like, I
don't remember the season finale.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
I'm not gonna look it up and it's going to
watch it like a fan. And when it started, I
was like really confused, honestly, and I'm not in the
episode a ton either, but like there are moments that
I forgot were going to happen, and then something triggered
my memory and I was like, no, no, it's not
That episode is okay, So let's get in.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Okay, by the way, so let's also talk about how
we texted, because you started watching it before me, and
you texted me and you were like, honestly, I don't
remember it, and what did I say?

Speaker 2 (02:29):
And you said my airpod's club.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Oh yeah, you said welcome to my clubles don't work.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Yeah, well that was on the plane and my AirPods
didn't wa.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Yeah, but then I were having AirPod issues. But then
you said, yeah, you said welcome to the club. But
then I looked up the date because I was like,
I really can't remember much of this at all. May nineteenth,
twenty sixteen.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Is when this airs. This is nine years ago.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
Okay, so where does it start? Where does it start?
Let's talk about sure.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
The episode is centered around around the wedding of Owen
Hunt and Amelia Shephard.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
This is the synopsis where tensions run.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
God, they were married, go ahead for I.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Did not forget they were married, but I forgot that
this was their wedding episode. Meredith Gray and Maggie Pearce
provide emotional support to Amelia on her big day. Meanwhile,
Joe Wilson confesses a long held secret to Alex Karev,
while Arizona Robbins and Calie Torres navigate the emotional aftermath
of their custody battle.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Totally forgot about that.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
By the way, Ben Warren did not remember this and
then was screening attack, Ben Warren and Jason George was
Fantastic performs an emergency C section on April Kepner at Meredith's.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
House, delivering April's baby Hero, directed by Debbie Ann writer
Bill Harper. I did remember that Debbie directed it once
I started to see.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
My c keep it going.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Snappy fingers, say yes, I remembered that.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Dance moves and snappy fingers.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
I had not read this synopsis when I started.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
We opened up in the park with Than Alex and
they're both on the grass and they're talking about rain
and joking about being a bad omen for the wedding.
I didn't even know what wedding they were talking about.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
And then and.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Then I slowly realized that, like I forgot that Meredith
didn't really like Amelia too.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Did you remember that?

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Yeah, Meredith doesn't like a ton of people.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Oh my god.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Wait, I don't know if I've ever heard anybody say that,
but it's kind of it's kind of true.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
Yeah, no, no, okay, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
So they're talking, they're kind of talking does she like you?

Speaker 4 (04:33):
I mean, did she like does she like you?

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Wow?

Speaker 4 (04:36):
He was fine with Arizona. He was fine.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
No, No, I mean she grew to like me because
I was Alex's girl. But like, no, she kicked me
out of bed, she made me run caught. I mean, like, no,
she was not a Joe fan, this is true. She's
like she's picky.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
So they're laying on the grass. They're laying in the
grass and.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
They're talking about if people have one true love, yeah,
and if you once true love and that person I
don't know died like Derek is what they're referring to,
or is he who left?

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Is have you maxed out on the love?

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Well you get another?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Do you get another?

Speaker 1 (05:13):
And then Alex was kind of like talking a little
joke about Joe and not and I was like what
she did?

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I was like, excuse you say what?

Speaker 1 (05:24):
What? Apparently there's some trouble in the Joelex in the
Joelex household.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
Never Yeah, well because he wants a warm yes, and
you're giving him a man because you're hiding something because
you got a little secret.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Okay secret.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
You know, this is drama, this side drama. So then
it goes over the house and Emilia's on the phone
and oh acted out of that. She's just croh my gosh.
When she says mommy, just I need you to be here,
and she has a whole like, you know, all the
best people in this family are dead, and it's just
because she's basically upset with her mom because no one's
coming to the wedding.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Yeah, which I didn't know.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
There was no backstory for me on that one. There was.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
I didn't remember.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
If there is, I didn't remember it because I'm like,
don't even have five hundred sisters, You've a ton of sisters.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
Yeah, but i mean, why weren't they coming?

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Why weren't they coming?

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Maybe they didn't like Owen, maybe they didn't approve give.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Well, we can't remember this.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Yes, that was That was a really good scene. And
you see that April is in charge of the rings.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
Well, April's the best man because she's Owen.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
April's the best man, which was Owen because they work
in trauma together.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
That's what I decided. Okay, I remember sidebar.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
I remember being slightly jealous of these like very strong
imaginary circumstances where people were bound together. Like I remember
when Owen and April were building their actual trauma surgery bond,
not trauma bond, Yeah, trauma surgery bond and being.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Like, oh, but you had Alice.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
I feel like I know, I know I've had did him,
just saying when there are other ones you're kind of like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
it works because the diads work in this show. Like
when there's pairs of people that really connect about something,
it really works in this show. Yeah yeah, so so
so speaking of it's like either in couples or in friendship.

(07:22):
So so we kick it over to, you know, another
sort of rocky road that we're that we're walking, which
is Ben and Bailey.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Yeah, why Bailey doesn't really trust him?

Speaker 4 (07:34):
He did something, k he did something.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
It's really funny because I feel like we're oh no,
I was.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Just about to give a spoiler.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Don't do it?

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Kill you can?

Speaker 4 (07:46):
They've are well you can, They're all They're all available
on Netflix.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
I can no, no, no, I just wanted to give a
spoiler for this season. I can't say is actually plays
until last season. Ben Warren has a history and still does,
of being impulsive, and I'm assuming I might be wrong.
I'm assuming that he maybe did something really impulsive.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
But she says I don't trust you, which he points
out is different like I don't trust you is very
different than any other thing.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Yeah, that's true. To not be trusted as some sort
of surgeon or intern.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
By your wife too, like your partner saying in the situation. Anyways,
she says it was a grave error in judgment, and
she kind of puts him in that, you know.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Yeah, and then they went back and then we go
back to the bathroom. What I do love about the
bathroom is that Meredith said, do you know how many
people have like cried and lost their in the bathroom
and you're totally fine?

Speaker 2 (08:42):
And I realized it's so true.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
It was like a little wink to like all the
seas ends and it's like the elevator. You know, you're
going to make out in the elevator at some point,
And I'm like, oh, yeah, the bathroom has like breakdown history.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
Yeah for sure.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Ohwen comes and kind of saves that. He is like,
don't worry, and they have like a cute little kiss
and oh oh oh. I did write a note on
this because I did find Merediths line very fine. She
goes when she talked about like stuff those feelings back
in or something.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
Yeah, yeah, no, I do I love that part of her.
I'm a little like that sometimes Yeah, you are puck
it in.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah, suck it up and suck it Okay.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
So then we arrive at trauma and a woman named
Louise arrives and we find out that she has dementia
and she thinks that she stabbed someone that was maybe
trying to attack her, and it's really her an intruder.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
It was really her son, and.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
Jackson's on the case.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Jackson's on the case with doctor Isaac Cross Joe Adler,
and I totally forgot that Joe Adler was on the show,
and the two three seasons he was on. Man, he
was funny, he had some good stuff.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
Oh he was funny, Yeah, very funny. Yeah, he's very funny.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
So we're dealing with that sort of storyline, and then.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Louise thinks that Jesse Williams is her husband, and I'm
I feel like this probably happens to Jesse.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
A lot out in the world. People just decide that
that's yeah, Jesse's theirs for the keeping and we'll have
to ask you when it comes on.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
And so she's de sided there together and she embraces him,
and there's even talk of like, are we having there's
some confusion in the conversation.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
She's like, are we having a baby? We're having a
baby together? And crosses very excited about this and.

Speaker 4 (10:33):
He jumps on board. He he he leans like, how
do I help you with this situation?

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (10:39):
And then we go to Alex and Joe, which is
you and what's happening at the loft?

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Well, I literally put it in my mouth like a lob.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
You have a long bob.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
I have a loba.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Yes, And I was actually like, oh, I saw some
like the boobs were.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Kind of out a little bit.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
Oh, you were very booby.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
I was a little booby. I don't think I've been
that booby since.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
You were very booby.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
That was the first and last time that I was
ever booby on the show. For some reason, Oh maybe
this is why my first line is let's make a baby?
And I wrote what I was like, what is going
what storyline is this?

Speaker 2 (11:15):
I could not remember?

Speaker 1 (11:17):
And then then I started to remember kind of filming it,
and this was I mean, I'm just gonna say it
because we're gonna get to it and we're breaking it down.
This was the episode that I knew that I was
going to reveal just to the audience that I've been
married before. And I don't think I realized that until

(11:38):
the table read. I knew that i'd like, you know,
had a hard past and like lift in my car
and all those things, but I don't think I knew
about the husband until that moment, until an episode, So
that was I think, I am. And this is nine
years ago, so who knows. But yes, I uh.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
They were. He wanted to true wife.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
He wants wife, a house, a family, a wedding, like
oh in an Amelia.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
If he wants a real it's a real wife. And yeah,
I took your whole like, let's make a baby. And
guys like I men, we know that later on you're
there's a very specific reason why you can't get married.
You're actually offering up something way more important. Yeah, totally
getting married. And so anyways, that's what I that's what

(12:25):
I took that to be.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
But Alex left with a bag.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
He wasn't pleased.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
He wanted more, I mean wils and I'd want more
from Joe tojo Hello, what a hattie. I do remember
this scene in the loft that rehearsal taking like forty
five minutes to an hour. It was so we rehearsed
it over and over again, and I remember being like
just not looking forward to shooting it at all.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
But all the.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Pieces of it. I think we shot it as one scene.
I know, it's like, no, you know it's broken you
know it is one scene. Well maybe it's broken up
into I can't remember, but it was just this really
long piece and then we had stunts in and everything.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
But yeah, I just remember that taking a really long time.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Okay, so now we go back to the hospital. It's
to Meredith and Nathan.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
I forgot Martin Henderson was on the show.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
No, I never forgot. I really liked him. He was fantastic. Rigs.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
I didn't forget he was on the show. I forgot.
I didn't realize he was in this episode. Oh okay, sorry,
that's what I said.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
That's what I mean to say. I No, I definitely didn't.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
And I literally made a note Martin Henderson is so
charming as what I wrote, Yeah, he is.

Speaker 4 (13:47):
He's very charming, and she is so low key. I
don't go, No, I know it's not high key. I
don't go. She's very in that X ray viewing and
she's like.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Yah, yeah, if I was a viewer, I'm trying to
think of like, because I kind of knew where the
storyline was going. If I was a viewer, I would
think because she gave off, like, let's go back and
break it down a little bit. Like with Derek, I
feel like she definitely acted like she didn't give a
you know, she was madly in love with him. This
came across as like take I could take it or
leave it.

Speaker 6 (14:20):
I just beat my pants, like and I, Yeah, that's
what I was like, dude, I really I think it'll
She'd be fine if she never saw you again.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
That's how I'm feeling.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
And the genius of the writing and delivery is that
you then get deeper into the scene come to find
out they had sex four times in one night. So yeah,
and I was like, what leaving it? She's not leaving it.
She's not leaving it. She's taking it. She's getting it,
she's doing it.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
Yeah, exactly right.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
So anyways, then we go back to the church. Yep,
I went an April or there. He's like, you're I'm
the best best man. She's like, I'm the best best man.
And he's like an because she remembers his socks and
he's like yeah, and also grab those rings and she's like, whoo.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
I know. And by the way, Sarah Drea's just so funny.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
Her her comic timing is so good because as soon
as her face like fell, I started giggling. But again,
I was not clocking that this is how April. I
didn't realize that this is an episode that she was
pregnant in until one shot, like when she's running outside
to Ben.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
To get that. I was like, oh, she has a belly.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
Yeah, And then I was not clocking that this is
she has a belly, she's pregnant, this is where this
is going. Yeah, So she jumps in the car and
she is going to get a ride to Meredith's house.
And then basically merediths like, was she's kind of team Christina.
You're realizing that this is she's team Christina a little bit.

Speaker 4 (15:54):
Well, here's what I think she is the entire episode.
She's kind of the person that's like when you well,
when you're making big decisions, you want to be surrounded
by people that they're like, your decision is great, go
forth with this decision you've made. This is amazing, and her,
like Meredith is very much like, I don't know, is
your decision. Good? Do you like your decision? So when

(16:15):
she goes to Owen, she's like, have you told Christina?
Don't you think maybe you should tell Christina? Like I'm
feeling if you love this decision, then you should stand
by this decision, so you should tell Christina. And then
when she's with Amelia, she's like, what do you want
to what do you want to do? So I feel
like it's always her being like, I mean, what do
you want to do?

Speaker 1 (16:34):
Yeah, it's not I don't I don't know what I
would have needed in that moment, but I think I
would have needed a more of a this is right, yes.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
And I guess the question is why, I mean.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
But the better storyline.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
But here's the thing, Meredith doesn't know if it's right,
and so yeah, her thing is is like.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Whatever you want to do, I'm there. Yeah. And so
this is where they oh wait, hang on, what we
have to just talk about this?

Speaker 4 (17:03):
What do we miss?

Speaker 1 (17:04):
This is the reveal of Amelia's wedding hair. Oh, and
I have thoughts about this and I would say this
to Katerina and this is not this.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Is I feel like it's not very Amilia.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
The wedding hair.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
Yes, because Amelia is kind of like this character that
can be neurotic and messy, and I would just think
that she has, like, I don't know, like this.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
It just looked very just formal.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
Formal on her, and I don't think of her as
like this formal girl.

Speaker 4 (17:40):
No, I don't either. We're gonna have to ask her
about her that choice.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
I'm gonna ask her about the choice.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
I want to know because then I went through a
little character deep dive and I was like, wait a second,
maybe this is reflective of her not feeling herself and
it not being the right thing, because to me, it
didn't look like Amelia almost.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
It was not like an Amelia vibe.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
But let's see because Katina will be able to speak
to this and she'll be able to tell us actually,
that's exactly what Amelia wanted on that day.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
She wanted something totally different. She wanted formal.

Speaker 4 (18:15):
Yeah, yeah, who knows. Okay, So now we're in the
bridal room and this is the big again Gray's Special
serving it up hot. Meredith is like, what do you
want me to be? Yeah? You need a person just
like she's this person, and Christina needs to be her person.

(18:36):
You need a person. What do you want me to be?
You want me to have a getaway car? You want
me to tell you? I love the writing so much.
It's just so good.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
It's so good, it's so good, and and that's and
then then the next shot is them running out in
the rain and being like, oh, it's a ghetaway car.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
Yeah, little non fact. These gray speeches, they're so well
written that you would see them on a piece of
paper and you'd be like, how do you memorize that?
But when it's so well written, it's actually very easy
to memorize.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Yeah, it's so true.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
Okay, so they all run away the cars on the
road and Maggie is like why are we doing this?
And they kind of don't have an answer.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
But it is funny because this is why Meredith says,
well he could get a little he could get a
little more sun or something like that.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
They're like, what's wrong with the one?

Speaker 4 (19:25):
And she's likel I love that line.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
Great.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
I love it when they poke fun at us. I'm
sure there's been a million Arizona.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
Oh my god, there's so are you kidding?

Speaker 4 (19:34):
Way? She could be better? Okay, So now they're in
the car. Then we go back to Meredith's kitchen and
April and Ben are looking for the rings. April's having
kind of contractions. He kind of notices them, but it's
a big deal. Then we go back to the o
R with Jackson and Louise.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
Can I just say this is where when she starts like,
oh the contraction, I it flashed in my eyeballs. This
is the episode she said to get cut open, see
sexual on the table.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
And I literally wanted to scream because I didn't want to.
It was I remember reading it. Do you remember reading that?

Speaker 4 (20:08):
Are we just going straight to the part that you
and I both were like?

Speaker 1 (20:10):
No, I know, but I'm saying this is the part
that I thought of that. This is when I realized
where it was going.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
Listen.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
If people are tuning in and you haven't watched this,
then I don't know what to tell you.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
It was nine years ago. This didn't air last Tuesday.
Do you know what I'm saying?

Speaker 1 (20:31):
All Right, we're keeping it, we're keeping it moving, we're
going we're going all over the show.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
Okay, So you go back to Jackson and Louise, and
Jackson's pretending to be Louise's husband. Yeah, and you know,
confused and all that stuff. Now finally I show up.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
You showed up.

Speaker 4 (20:48):
Hi, am finally here? Yeah, And then of course I
go to my Bailey and I'm like, did.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
You remember what was going on the storyline?

Speaker 1 (20:55):
Because when you showed up and you were talking, I
was like, I don't understand what's what?

Speaker 4 (20:59):
Yes, we had the big custody and I got full custody.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Why did you get full custody?

Speaker 4 (21:04):
Because I'm right and I'm awesome. I know it just
seems a little extream Arizona line. No, I know it was. Well,
it was big. We listen rewatch that episode.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
We did rewatch that episode, didn't we No, we didn't
do that one. It's on the list.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
Yes, and I rewat I did. I watched it separately
because our last rewatch was right before it, and I
ended up like, yeah, I did. I did rewatch it.
And it was it's a lot. It's a lot.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
I don't remember why, but I do need to.

Speaker 4 (21:33):
It's really good.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
It's really good.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
Okay, okay, a little a little messed up that you
got full, but like you know, it is, it's fine.

Speaker 4 (21:40):
Yeah, I don't want to ruin it again.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Okay, Okay, okay.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
So she basically is, like Kellie said all the time,
how can I help? And Bailly's like, maybe you need
to kind of let her be sad, like this is sad.
So she's sad. She's like, okay. So then we go
to Joe's bar, and what has Joe decided to do?

Speaker 1 (22:03):
I just wrote drunk drunk Joe. That's what the because
the viewers they really.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Enjoy a drunk Joe.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
And I remember Joe at Joe's bar, drunk Joe Joe's Bar.
I do remember Debbie Allen directing and her allowing me
to be a little more comedic with it, like have
these moments with it. I actually I love the drunk scenes,
but I don't always like playing drunk.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
It's hard.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
It's hard because what you're trying to do is like
play the place on his drunk, trying to act sober
because that's what you do.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
You're great, you were great.

Speaker 4 (22:43):
I want to do the.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
I want to do an episode that you're drunk and
that I'm thinking about right now, and we can talk
about this, but they.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
Do make for some funny moments.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
And yes she is, she is in a bad way.
And then Stephanie is like peace. Andrew arrives and she's like,
you can take care of her. She's a hot mess
and make sure she's fine. So he sits down and
it's the beginning of a nightmare scenario that unravels.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
So then we get back to the church. By the way,
Owen's bride, he actually knows, is gone. How would you
feel about that? Love the trust and I love that
he's like, let's give her the benefit of the doubt.
But yeah, but him giving her the benefit of the
doubt is what makes Alex I think. There was like
the light bulb moment.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Where Alex is like, yeah, it's like a gift. Oh yeah,
I should do that. M hmm kind of yeah.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
I when I saw that church and they're having sort
of like a conversation, did a kind of like wide
shot of the church and the pews, and that's when
I realized, once again, Joe's not invited to a wedding.
Joe doesn't get invited to many weddings, and and a
lot of people.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
Do That's okay, someone needs to save the people at
the hospital.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
It's true, it's true.

Speaker 1 (23:57):
We need to talk to I mean, Amilily is saying
no one's here. Hello, get Joe. Get Joe to that
wedding bar to get drunk.

Speaker 4 (24:04):
So then we go back to the house and the
labor's escalating, and April's kind of like, people have babies
at home. This is okay, yes, which I thought was
actually a weird leap. I thought that was a little weird.
I thought she was like, I mean, come on, it's
her first baby.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
I made a note of this. Kepner's mom had a
baby in a barn. Okay.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
She says that, don't forget that she's from like the
farm life, right. So she's like, I feel like if
there's something, wow, something earthy about.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Like where, she's like, you know what it's.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
And she's trying to convince herself because she's saying, there's
no way I can get to the hospital.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
I don't know why they're.

Speaker 4 (24:42):
Not waiting, because they're waiting outside the window.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Yes, but they didn't. So they call an ambulance. They
call an ambulance, they call an ambulance.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
And but then she kind of figures, you know what,
I'm going to have this baby here, and so I'm
just going to deliver this baby on Mariths, right. Yeah,
and he's done he's like, okay, great, great. Yeah, they're
very casual about it, to be honest. Then they go
back to the r and the Louise prep, and honestly,
it's very sweet the whole like Jackson Louise thing, because

(25:10):
he's like really being there for her. I found it
very touching.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Yeah, I liked it too.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
Then we're back in Meredith's house and this is where
it gets to like that season finale ramp up right,
And my favorite line of this whole episode is when
Kepner he's giving her a vaginal feeling her cervix right,
and she's like, okay, let's wrap it up. I like

(25:48):
laughed because he was taking so long.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
I laughed so hard.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
This is when we find out that she is in
really rough shape and the baby's breach.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
And he can't feel a pulse and he can feel
the cord, he can feel the feet the chord and
no pulse. Bad news. Trifecta of bad news.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
And then she's like when she goes, you know, the
kitchen has better light or something like that.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
I was like, no, even though I knew it was gonna.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
Happen, like my moment then that wasn't my No, moment.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
No.

Speaker 4 (26:21):
No, that was like a that was like an interior No,
that was like an inside voice. No, that was like
no inside my head. I'll tell you when I get
to my standing in my kitchen.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
Oh yeah, yea yeah.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
Oh okay. So then we go back to the gas
station and the sisters are writing slushies.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
That was funny.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
I feel like they had like the mega slushies and
I was like very down.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
I was like, all right, cool, yep, down for a slushie.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
Then we go back to Joe and Andrew.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
Oh my god. Okay. So then, yes, I do remember
filming this. I remember her.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
Saying like, oh my god, this isn't my bag, and
then talking to the mister Bone.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
This skeleton.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
I don't know if you guys know this, but the
skeleton in the bar is called mister Bones. He's been
around for a long time. And Joe is having a
little bit of conversation with him, and she says, I
am already married.

Speaker 4 (27:11):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
A little bomb gup drop.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
And then she needs to get home obviously, so they're
gonna figure out a way to get home, call a
boober or something like that.

Speaker 4 (27:22):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
So then Bailey gets looped in on the call from
Ben the baby's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
We see her like go down a hallway and then
run the other way. Basically, then we're back at the church.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
This is this is the scene where they say that
they've earned a little bit of the benefit of doubt,
which is terrible timing because Alex agrees and he's like.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
Let me go see Joe.

Speaker 1 (27:41):
And then and then we're back in the car outside
the church and they decide.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
Maggie says, are we going to go in?

Speaker 1 (27:48):
They finish the slushies, and and maybe people get and
then there's a competition.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
Maybe people do get two loves m maybe there are.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
Maybe you get one, maybe get eleven, maybe you get nine.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
I mean yeah, And then I think this is where
they head in. Then this is the most I really
did not want to watch the scene. This is the
field C section. In the kitchen, Jessica capsu.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
He's rubbing on what is that hand sanitizer is.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
What he looks like. He's looking for the medical kid.
He finds like a like Mary Poppin's medical bag in
the closet, and he pulled out a scalpel and it's
like rusted and you're like, wait, what that medical bag
is from like nineteen forty four.

Speaker 1 (28:34):
Yeah, that's rough, okay, And he makes that I do
you know, like, there's some things that I are just
imprinted in my brain. The expression that Sarah Drew does
as the scalpel goes or the knife goes across her belly.

Speaker 4 (28:50):
Well, that was my no moment. So when he goes well,
first of all, I'm sorry, hold on, they call the
hospital because Ben, like Jackson, evidently I'm the all of
a sudden, Arizona is the authority. So they called to
talk to Arizona, and Arizona has coached them through it
very coolly. By the way. I thought she was very like.
I was like, I actually wanted a little bit more
from her, Like, Arizona, I need you.

Speaker 1 (29:12):
You weren't happy with your performance, No, I needed I
needed me to dial it up a lot.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
Yeah, maybe you were tired.

Speaker 4 (29:20):
Well I was personally very pregnant.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
No, I'm saying, yeah, maybe you were a little tired. Yeah,
maybe justly, Capsule was tired. And that's what poor Arizona
got the.

Speaker 4 (29:28):
She got a little tired, she was a little Yeah,
well I needed I needed someone to goose her and
be like, hey, this is high stakes. So they call
and they put well, they're all on speaker, and then Bailey, Jackson,
and Arizona are huddled around the phone and you are
You're like, oh, I mean I felt it all. I was,

(29:50):
so I guess that's probably why I was being critical
of myself. I really wanted more from me in this moment.
But anyways, they're they're really like going, Okay, what's happening,
And you can see Jackson being like that's my baby
and I'm not there and the yeah, high stakes of
it all. And then April starts going into the whole
like no matter what you say, this baby, yeah, and

(30:10):
Jackson's like, don't listen to her, don't listen her, don't
listen to her. Oh.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
I loved the way that was shot.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
I thought it was a really smart, great I mean,
Debbie Allen's a fantastic director, you guys, she's incredible. But
the idea of like panning the camera from her belly
so you see the cut and then up into her
face and her reaction was just yeah.

Speaker 4 (30:33):
But when he got out that knife and it really
did look like what I was.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Like, no, like no, no, no, let's just wait for the
ambiance just a little bit, and then we see and
then it does cut to a little ambulance bay handoff
and Bailey and Jackson unload April and rush her inside,
and then stays and he's holding a healthy baby girl,

(30:57):
little Jackson and April baby.

Speaker 1 (30:59):
Go.

Speaker 4 (31:01):
My critical mind flared up and I was like, there
we go. Yeah, wait for it. I'm like, why is
Ben need like a wormingfoil? Why is he standing there
in a warming foil?

Speaker 1 (31:13):
Like?

Speaker 3 (31:13):
Like what?

Speaker 2 (31:14):
Interesting?

Speaker 4 (31:14):
What does he need warming for?

Speaker 2 (31:16):
Like?

Speaker 4 (31:16):
What?

Speaker 2 (31:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (31:17):
But it was clearly intended to shield the baby for
the reveal, Like if you've been holding the baby, you
would have seen that he was holding the baby. Yeah.
But meanwhile, to me, he looked like a marathon or
at the end of a race.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
Oh yeah, yeah, well listen, surgical marathon, trauma marathon. It was.

Speaker 4 (31:35):
It was that's drum okay. So then what happens because
this part I have to say I was I knew
what was coming, and I was like, I'm uncomfortable and
I didn't want to I couldn't remember how much you
saw of it, and so I like, was I I
actually did I skipped ahead, So go ahead, but say
what happened? Did you?

Speaker 2 (31:55):
Okay, So this is what happens.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
Joe comes back and she's sort of she's laying out
all the details because she's drunk and she's got loose lips,
and she's telling Andrew that she had a husband, and
she's sort of giving a few little details about her
past and that he would find her if he knew
where she was or if she tried to divorce and

(32:16):
he could track her down, which we know ends up happening.
And then I well, Joe starts to undress. By the
way it is, it's just always a little weird watching
herself get a little.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
Naked on TV. I'm like, I'm like, why don't you
just keep that shirt on?

Speaker 3 (32:30):
Joe?

Speaker 1 (32:30):
Just keep that shirt button. It doesn't work for the storyline.
And she collapses on the bed and Andrew kind of
falls on top of her, and that's why.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
And I hate it so much.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
And I remember we padded the poll that Andrew ends
up being up against because he got really thrown back
against it in a scene, and so it was all
padded and then he just got beaten the crap out
of And honestly, there was blood. We I think it's
probably going to be in the next episode in the premiere,

(33:07):
but there was so much blood everywhere, And then I
always found it really all that, like Joke continued to
live in the attic for a really long time, and
there were Andrew de Luca bloodstains on the rug that
she just never got out.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
Like seasons later, there was DeLuca blood on the rug.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
As soon as he came in. I just fast forwarded it.
I didn't want to see it.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
It was, oh God, it's so bad.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
And then it's Joe's screaming and it's just oh God,
and it just honestly leads into such a difficult season. Okay,
then Nathan delivers the rings. This now we're at the church,
thank god God.

Speaker 4 (33:45):
And everyone's made it back to the church.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
And then this is this Ellen and this Rigs and
merredithem was very sweet where they kind of compare notes
on getting married and it was a little emotional on it.
It was a little twinkled twinkle yep, small twinkles coming on.
And then of course, oh well, I think that we

(34:08):
should jump to because obviously like everything's great, and then
we have this really beautiful scene between Arizona and Calli.

Speaker 4 (34:18):
Well okay, so well let's just finish the wedding. So
they walk, so Amelia walks, and that all gets done,
and then we go to the hospital and the two
lives have been saved and sort of Bailey's trust has
been you know, replenished in ben sure. And then and
I have to say only because I wasn't around, I mean,
Arizona isn't in the episode very much. It does sort

(34:39):
of like jog over to this other storyline which is
from the episode before it, which is to Arizona and Calli,
and Arizona brings Sophia over to Callie's house and she
sort of just, I want to say, valiantly. I think
she's Arizona always tries to be on the right side

(35:04):
of the road. Yeah, and she always tries to do
she always tries to, you know, do the right thing.
And she kind of heroically shows up with this fix
and she hands off two plane tickets, which I think
is so funny to me. By the way, did you
notice that like two paper plane tickets?

Speaker 1 (35:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (35:22):
I saw that Day's world.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
I'm like, who would But anyways, back in the day,
she showed up with two plane tickets, and she says,
is I mean, I mean, basically, she says, I got custody,
but I want it to be fifty.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
Basically, you want your you take a summer.

Speaker 4 (35:47):
I take a summer. I get this Christmas, you get
that Christmas. And she and and so and Kellie kind
of can't believe it, and and she has a chance
to right the wrong and she says, we did this wrong.
We had a chance to do it right and we
missed it. And uh, I think she says something like,
I think that Sophia deserves to have two happy moms. Yeah,

(36:10):
and then she says at the end, I'm just saying,
let's all be happy. Then I actually thought to myself,
if that's if that isn't just like Super Arizona. Yeah,
let's just all be happy. Let's all be happy.

Speaker 1 (36:26):
I loved, I mean, oh you know, I really loved
oh oh oh, the very last let's talk about the
very last moment of the episode.

Speaker 2 (36:34):
Yeah, yeah, okay, Meredith.

Speaker 1 (36:36):
And because I totally forgot about this, Meredith Maggie standing
together at Maggie, I.

Speaker 7 (36:42):
Know I forgot, you know, because Riggs is well, because
Riggs is at Gray at Meredith and he's giving his
very like charming smile, so great, and there they are together,
so he's looking at their direction and all of a sudden.

Speaker 1 (37:00):
And Maggie's like, you know what, and then he's looking
directly at me and he's in love mere basically, yes,
you know, I kind of want to watch the seas.
I kind of want to break down the season opener
after this because I'm a little I'm a little sucked
into a bunch of these storylines, like I want to
know where this goes.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
It looks so great about the show.

Speaker 1 (37:22):
There's so many, just so many storylines for everybody and
moments for everybody that are huge.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
It was actually really wild watching this episode.

Speaker 4 (37:32):
I was into it. I was into it. I probably gasped.
I said, oh no, I felt all the things, and yeah,
I was into it.

Speaker 1 (37:41):
I was really interesting, I can tell you, because guys,
I don't think I've ever seen Capshaw stand through an
entire podcast.

Speaker 2 (37:46):
And she has stood her ground.

Speaker 1 (37:48):
Literally now she's doing a dance and she's she's been in,
she has been in.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
Yeah. I don't like when we do these rewatches because
it pulls me in and then I have to now
I'm well, I'm gonna not.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
Well, that's that's what happened to you last time. You
had to watch the next episode. And now I'm feeling
it too. I'm like, what happens?

Speaker 4 (38:04):
Oh? I know, I know, you know what's.

Speaker 1 (38:06):
Funny as I have a quick question before you go,
do you feel really removed from Arizona?

Speaker 2 (38:11):
Because I feel when I watch it.

Speaker 4 (38:14):
You're still playing Joe Wilson.

Speaker 1 (38:17):
I know, but I feel so removed from that storyline
that it truly is almost like watching somebody else.

Speaker 2 (38:23):
It's weird.

Speaker 4 (38:27):
No, I feel very much her. You do. Yeah, I remember.
I mean I don't remember clearly every single yeah, yeah,
but I remember the feel of it, like I remember
like I flashed on the Oh sorry, I'm sorry I have.

(38:50):
I had a realization when I was watching the show.
Tell me so in that scene where I go to
the house and I give Calli the two tickets, it's
my memory that we did that scene and we rapped
for the season and then Sada announced that they were leaving. Wow,

(39:11):
so that was unknownst to me our very last scene.

Speaker 1 (39:15):
That is so crazy. I know, I feel like that
cannot be true. But now I see, this is why
I need to watch more. Yeah, this is why I
need to watch more.

Speaker 4 (39:26):
Yeah. So when I was watching it and we hug
and there's this coming together of these two characters and
the generosity and the the love there, I was like, oh,
I love that.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
Yeah that that was the last moment between the two.

Speaker 4 (39:42):
Yeah, yeah, I love that.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
All right.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
On that note of Arizona, the last scene between Arizona
and Cali, I think that's a good place to call it.

Speaker 4 (39:52):
Yeah, yeah, so let's call it.

Speaker 8 (39:54):
The end of the episode.

Speaker 4 (40:00):
