Speaker 1 (00:01):
Call It what It Is with Jessica Capshaw and Camille Luddington,
an iHeartRadio podcast. Well, Hello, Hello, Hello.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Hello Call It crew, and welcome to another episode of
Short and Sweet Sweet. I need to talk about this,
you guys. Okay, So obviously, like I'm not American. I
went to college for like a minute, I never rushed
a Swarty. So this is this is all new to me, right, okay.
And somehow the algorithm for my TikTok was like, you
(00:40):
know what she needs to she needs to be involved.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
In Bama Rush.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
I was like, I don't even know.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
I didn't do you know what Bama Rush is?
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Is it out? Is it at Alabama?
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Yeah? Yeah, it's the Alabama State University or whatever it is, Yeah,
Alabama State.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah. Well I didn't know that. I was like Bama Rush.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
I was like maybe that's I literally thought maybe that
was the name of the sorority, Like it was like
Catholic Cappa Deltia, and then there was just Bama and
it was like you gottadrink, I'm I'm you know, go ahead.
I had no I yah, the presence this.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Has on TikTok. Let me just explain this to you.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Well, first, ken you, let's explain it what it is.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
So for people that are not American, well I might
have to have you explain it. This is what me
Brits thinks. Okay, okay, Okay. It's like a movie. There's
a sorority row at a college and they have these
like mega mansions and then their houses and their houses
and they actually get to live there.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Yeah, well they get to live there.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Maybe you want to if you want to, Okay, so
to get to I would want to. I've seen these houses.
I'm like, yeah, twenty five thousand square feet.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Look at that the White House.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Anyway, so okay, So you arrive as a freshman, and
then they all have like Greek letterary Greek, yes, okay.
So then they have like names though, like Cappa Delta, Gamma, Kappa, Gamma, Zeta, oh, Zeta's.
Data's all over the web, the websites, and you go
(02:11):
and you hope to get into to get cruited, to
get picked to be in a sorority. Basically, you don't
show up in camp on college campus in the US
and just be like, hey, I'd love to be part
of the sorority and they're like, yay, come in.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
They pick you.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
It's like a social nightmare.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Yeah I was not in a sorority and the idea
of being in one or rushing or yeah, it gives
me anxiety.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
So you go and then there are cuts, like you
meet them, and.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Then there's certain like a week. It's not just like
a job.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Interview where you go like once and you meet them,
they're like, no, you're not a fit. Like you're put
through an entire week of events where they analyze you.
Look at your social media, apparently, look at what you're
I've learned kind.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Of apparently, look at what you're wearing. What you're wearing
is a very big deal.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Well, here's what I'm hearing.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Moms of these girls are some of these girls are
even more into it than the girl and so they're like,
you need the Arames bracelet with the the Dida earrings,
with the Van cleefs and this is what you need
to say. And the moms as much like some of
these moms are flying and staying there the rush week
(03:31):
to basically like be cheerleaders as they're going through, which
is just so crazy to me. Can you imagine Cape
Capshaw coming down for Gamma Delta week.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
I don't think so, No, I don't. I don't see
it happening. I I mean I saw something my algorithm
through me. I mean it didn't. It didn't turn me
the tiktoks and I didn't go down the rabbit hole
that seems I'm in. No, yeah, you're in. Is that
there are actually consultants that, oh, can talk to you
(04:07):
before you even get there about which sorority is best.
Like it's almost like you did your college applications hopefully
you're at the right school, and now you have to
do a whole nother application process where you figure out
which sorority is right for you, and then they shepherd
you through the process.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
It's called a rush coach.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
So you know what this is.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
One hundred percent I said, the algorithm has been feeding me.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Okay, it's stuffed. Okay, it's a rush coach.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
And so some of these girls are online and they're like,
I got here and I was going to start rushing,
and then everyone was like, oh, when does your rush
coach arrive?
Speaker 1 (04:40):
What? Yes, okay, and what does a rush coach do.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Coaching you how to like on the things to say?
Apparently there are five bees. Have you heard of the
five bees. Oh my god, Oh you're not. These are
things you're not supposed you're supposed to avoid talking about.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
If you're coached, then you're not being authentically yourself. And
then you have to the next I mean, you have
to keep up the act as much for sure. Why
would you pretend to be something that you're not if
you actually then have to keep up the act for
your in the entirety of your college experience.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
I mean, this is true, but I guess it's almost
like I agree, but I guess it's almost like a job,
and you go into a job inter you like putting
your best foot forward and kind of making it seem
definitely making it seem as if like this is the
work culture that you're going to thrive in and you're
the best person for the job and all those things,
and you might not like it.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
But I think that these girls have.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
No idea really what this sorority is really like. I mean,
they don't know any of these girls, and they're just
sort of like hoping that they get the opportunity to
be in whatever sorority it is. And so yes, they're
putting their best foot forward, which might not be a
good representation of themselves.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
So this is what I've heard.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
You are not supposed to talk about really when you're
being interviewed in rush. Okay, you're supposed to avoid boys, ballots,
booze by.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
And bucks and oh somebody. I don't know what that is.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Yeah, believes I even heard Biden. I saw Biden on
there one time and it was I was cracking up.
I'm like, what if you mentioned Biden? Like, your BID's gone.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
They're like, get her out of here.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
So what's the bid?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
By the way, I don't know what I'm good it is.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
I think it means you've been you've been selected, you
make a business it. I don't know. Do you make
a bid for the sorority or does the sorority make
a bid for you?
Speaker 3 (06:26):
I don't know about that.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
I think the bid is your you bidding. I don't
I don't know what it is. But let me tell
you what really was.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
Is there competition, Like is there a girl who's like
the one that all the sororities want to get? Yes?
Speaker 3 (06:39):
Okay, so it's called the crush.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
So there's always a girl that's like the sorority crush,
and it's like the girl of this season. And what's
happening now in twenty twenty five is that these girls,
the person that kind of like, you know, is the
shiniest newest thing, is becoming a social media sensation from it.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
But doesn't it just make you feel like, I mean,
this is how I feel when people talk about all
like what it takes to get into college. I think,
I don't. I just wouldn't have gotten in. No, I
wouldn't have gotten into college. I wouldn't have gotten into
a sorority. I'm in a shame spiral. This is giving
me anxiety, I know.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
And let me tell you, every single morning they're like,
this is my fit for the day. It's rush day
and I'm wearing and they go through their head to
toe fit and it's whatever they're wearing for the day.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Is this a show or just a TikTok thing?
Speaker 2 (07:28):
This is not a TV show. This is just TikTok.
This is social media. It's it's like a frenzy online
right now. And here's how crazy it is. This is
the last thing I'll say about it.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
But here's how crazy we were in already We're in already.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Okay, there are women our age that are posting on
TikTok and they're making they're breaking down because they're seeing
the TikTok from all the girls that are like rushing that.
They're like, Okay, I think this girl's gonna end up
with Zeta. This girl's going to be the breakout of
the season. And it's almost like a football It's like
(08:00):
they're Super Bowl and they know the ins and outs
and the backstories and who's you know, who's whose legacy
and who's not legacy and why this and there's drama
happening behind the scenes and there's it's insane.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Can we go back to the five bees?
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Okay, the first bee was.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
There's a lot of bees.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Honestly it was boys. Okay, so you're not talking, is
it like a I think.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
You're not supposed to be like there. Here's what I'm gathering.
This is what I'm assuming is that you're there, Like
how are you tell us about yourself being like oh
my boy, my boyfriend Craig because they want you to
be single. No, I just don't think you make it
your whole personality. And sometimes I think the girls or
be like, oh my god, what are the boys like here?
Speaker 3 (08:57):
I think you're just you're all about the girls. You're
all about the girl and the friendship and.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
The sister h the sisterhood. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
The next one is ballots booze.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
You don't talk about alcohol.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Well because you don't get sloppy.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
No, and you can't you can't roll up and they're like,
how was last night? And you're like, gosh faced, do
you know what I mean? Like, we're not going to
talk about.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
I don't feel like that's going to curry favor with anyone.
Once you're in, by the way, maybe it's a different story.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Yeah, once you're in, all of these are fine. The
bees are back in.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Once you're in, are getting you think they're not talking
about boys and booze.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
You get all your.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Bees back and politics.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Okay, so yeah that's why maybe Biden was a bee.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Yeah, but I don't know.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Who's going up and being like, you know, how's your day?
I just fucking love Biden.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Okay, So boos.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Okay, booze, Okay.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Beliefs and this is beliefs or Bible, So like your
religious beliefs off the table, off the table, bucks, I
guess how rich you are?
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Is that what I'm assuming?
Speaker 1 (09:59):
Like, listen, every everythink you just described where people are,
where you've got, you know, you're hiring consultants, and then
you're figuring out which Ara mes bracelet you're gonna wear.
I mean, I'm thinking this is reserved for incredibly wealthy people,
this situation.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Well, well what I'm what I'm well, I don't I
don't know if it necessarily is incredibly wealthy people.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
But of course a sorority costs money.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Yeah, but so does an air Mez bracelet.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
I mean no, yes, I have to say though, like
I'm seeing that, but I'm also seeing a lot of
girls that are wearing like real cute stuff from like
local stores that are not like crazy expensive.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
I wonder if it's like that movie some kind of
wonderful where it's like the really the really like the
super popular girl the Crush was from the wrong side
of the tracks.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Oh my god, Jessica, I just thought of a I
literally just thought of a movie for us. I'm pitching
it to Hollywood right now, and if anybody takes this,
I'm gonna take this podcast to court.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Okay, are you ready for this?
Speaker 2 (10:54):
You and I are exceptionally young moms to eighteen year olds.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
We don't know how it happened.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
The Bees.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
We are rivals and we're sorority. We need those girls
in sorority.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Yeah, it's like Bride Wars but not it's Bride Wars
but sorority Wars.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
And it's like but moms, but moms, I'm not even kidding.
And then our kids don't really care, so maybe we
end up rushing.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
As them almost like what's the movie Never Been Kissed?
When she goes back to high school.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Yeah, yeah, like we're so yeah, yeah, Jessica, I see it.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Well, it's funny because people get all, you know, fiery
when when you're they're like, oh my gosh, can't Hollywood
come up with any new ideas. Everyone's do, you know,
using all this ip and remaking stuff. But Bobby said
to me there to day because she was talking about
her favorite movies, and she was like, why were the
movies so good in the nineties?
Speaker 3 (11:50):
They are amazing?
Speaker 2 (11:51):
They were she loves I wonder, I'm not kidding, this
is a great idea.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Well we better get on it, because I feel like
we're we're.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
We're two moms or we're two rush coaches and we
have our you know, like dance.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Yeah, I can wait. All of a sudden, I just
saw us in like slow motion with our clipboards.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
And our yeah yeah yeah, and it's like we're complete rivals.
But in the end of the day, we realize the
five friendship.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Fine, say, friendship is really the most important thing, but it's.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Really really we realize you can talk about the five
bees sometimes.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
And that's where the movie ends and the credits roll.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
And we find and we find love with some professors
on campus.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yes, oh my god, wait, yes, this is so fantastic.
I love this so much, Hollywood.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Don't you can steal it? I know how disgusting you are.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Well, we just created the ip just now, how's that second? Yeah,
gotta buy it?
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Yeah from us?
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Yeah, so already wars and we already said the exact story.
The five bes are in there or maybe coaches moms. Anyway,
I'm sucked in Bama.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Rush on TikTok.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
All right, Well, now I'm gonna go check it out
and then we're have's some ideas once I've done that.
It's really research, is what it is.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
It is research. It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
It really feels like sorety super Bowl. And then people
open up their things at the end and they record themselves.
You know how when you get into college and you
like record yourself like opening up the acceptance, people are
recording themselves opening up the acceptance are and sometimes they're
like super happy, but sometimes they're like, oh my god,
I can't believe I just got into that shitty and
you still post it. I'm like, dude, you're gonna be
(13:35):
there next week and you just post it online like
clearly disappointed. I digress. My point is is it's rush week.
God's speed to all of you girls going through this rush.
It looks like so much work. Truly, I hope that
you do find great friends there because it makes I'm
sure the college.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
I wouldn't know, but I'm sure.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
You've done a lot to get that.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
So can you see Eve?
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Are you gonna end up having to be a soorty mom?
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Oh oh, I know not. After all the things you
just said, I don't know they might sound an I'm
not gonna lie. You don't. You don't make it sound.
I'm sure that it's gotta be fun, otherwise they wouldn't
be doing it.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
But I think it's fun because you don't know anybody, right,
and so it's a way to feel part of a
big community, and they put on a lot of events
and stuff like that. Yes, no, yes, they do work
in the community and.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
Steal it down to what the reason that it exists.
I think it's probably wonderful. Yeah, all right, well let's
call it the
Speaker 3 (14:35):
End of the episode.
