Speaker 1 (00:00):
Call It What It Is with Jessica Kepshaw and Camille Ludington,
an iHeartRadio podcast. Hello, Hello, Hello Call It crew, and
welcome to a very special episode of Call It What
(00:25):
It Is?
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Why is it so special this week?
Speaker 1 (00:29):
And I can't even believe that I'm saying this, honestly,
This week is the one year anniversary of our podcast,
and it feels like it's gone so fast. Just this
week is traveling to Nashville and she's shooting nine to
one one. So our schedules were all over the place,
(00:50):
and we are trying to figure out how do we
celebrate this week when we can't get on the podcast together.
We can't just leave it a week without talk talking
to the crew, especially this week. So we came up
with this idea that we would have these individual podcasts
or individual kind of conversations with you this week to
(01:12):
make it a little more intimate and to celebrate being
on this journey with you, because you are you have
been so much of the magic that has been this podcast.
So this is me, just me talking to you guys,
celebrating one year. And in order to do that, we
(01:32):
came up with some questions that I am going to
run through and talk to you guys about. But the
first thing, the first question I want to tackle is
one thing that surprised me most about the podcast, And
I think one thing that's really surprised me is and Jess,
I've talked about this before, but for years and years
(01:53):
and years, I mean over a decade, you know. Obviously
we have gone out and done press for different projects,
even part of right, And when we're in these interviews
with people, they are often asking maybe a question or
two about our lives, which we touch on, you know,
very briefly, and then a lot of our questions are
of course about the characters that we play and their
(02:15):
lives and emotionally what they're going through. And when Jess
and I decided to do call It what it is,
we knew that we were going to have.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
To be really vulnerable.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
In order to make it work and really talk about
our own shit. And at first I was wondering, is
this gonna be hard?
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Like?
Speaker 1 (02:38):
How easy is it's going to be? It feels so vulnerable.
But in order for us to expect the audience and
the listeners to open up to us, we have to
do the same in return. And so the thing that
sort of surprised me most about the podcast in general
is organically how quickly that ended up happening for us.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
And I think it's really a testament.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
To you guys, because you guys received what we were saying,
and then in return, we're super vulnerable back with us
and super open and not judgmental, and you didn't.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Agree with everything we were saying, but it.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Was just it instantly felt like this little community, which
isn't so little anymore. I mean, I think we're almost
at five million downloads, which is wild, you guys, but
it does feel like a little community still, And I'm
so grateful for you guys from making it easier for
(03:43):
us to do this. That's the truth, because it is
sitting when you're sitting here and you're talking like joke
about you guys knowing you know my rxit.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
CVS pharmacy.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
These are little details about our lives that I didn't
know we were never tell necessarily anyone about. And so
that's just been such an incredible part of the podcast,
and not just in general, probably has been what surprised
me the most is how organically we've just felt like
(04:18):
you guys sort of have opened your arms to us,
and then I hope in return that you feel like
we've opened our arms out to you. Okay, one thing
that surprised me most about the crew. You guys are
so fucking funny. And every time we ask you, guys.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
What do you think of this?
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Give us your comments, give us your stories, give us
your questions. You guys were ready, like you came ready,
you came prepared, you came so open. And again, just
the things, the stories that you tell us, the questions
that you give us, the comments that you make. I'm
laughing with you guys all the time, and I just
(05:03):
don't think this podcast could have worked without you showing
up in the way that you have and continue to do.
So thank you because I think that really, like I said,
like you're you guys are the magic and we get
to be along for the ride with you. Favorite guest,
(05:26):
this is so hard. I think that one of my
favorite guests though, had to be Stefania and the conversation
that we ended up having about sex because Stefani and
I I love her, I've known her a very long
time now, and these are often sort of I feel
like what you sort of got were the conversations that
(05:47):
often happen in our trailers or behind the scenes when
we have all this downtime and we're not filming and
you know, they haven't called us up to set yet,
and there's a lot of you know, we're just there's
a lot of that like how are you doing? What's
going on in your life? And you really got to
hear a lot of that intimacy and be in on
(06:12):
it with us. And what I loved so much about
her and I knew this would happen, is she came
in and I knew that she was just gonna be
super open and honest and raw and again vulnerable, right,
And I think that you guys can really hear that
(06:34):
in the podcast. So what I loved so much about
her as a guest is it felt like downtime on
set and the conversations we have and we just happened
to have mics and again you got to be part
of that friendship circle with us.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Okay, a moment that has shocked me over the past year.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
I have to mention this because it really I mean,
you guys listened to it, like I'm laughing now, I'm
almost laughing because I'm so uncomfortable and I don't know
how I.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Feel about it.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
The moment with Teresa Caputo when because you guys know this,
because we ended up doing a short and sweet after
what we had said to the producers, don't have her
read us, just have her come on.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
She can just talk about her gift. And then she
fully ended up reading like all of us.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Was so mind blowing and probably honestly the most.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Like one of the most.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Vulnerable moments I felt with you guys, sharing with you guys.
And there was a part of me that I remember
going into the podcast thinking, if she reads me and
my mom comes through, then I'm just gonna cut it
because it's going to be too much, right, It's been
so long.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Since my mom passed, and.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
It's just going to feel like this moment that I
don't want to share. And then it happened, and it
felt right to me personally to keep it in.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
It felt like this really real moment.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
I know a lot of you have dealt with grief
and loss, and maybe you could understand those feelings that
I was feeling, or maybe you couldn't, but I just
that moment for sure, just I mean, still you can
hear me like mumbling over it, I'm still like processing
(08:26):
and I think that for sure had to be the
moment that shocked me.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
And I'm so glad that I kept it in guest.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
I fangirled over the most. I mean, we've had so
many incredible people on. I mean we had kristin China.
I thought, I'm like right when you know Wicked had
come out, and it was just I mean, we've had
Geena Davis on, these incredible people personally. For me, when
when I met Kyler Lee, I really did geek out.
(08:53):
I think because I'm a Gray's Anatomy fan. I got
on the season right her. I truly heard from everybody
on set how incredible she was.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
She's such a fan favorite. I loved that character.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
And it almost felt like she was like this mythical
being to me that I just wasn't real, Like this
person didn't really exist or she existed on the show
and sort of like you know, in my world on set,
but not really. And so to see her in person
was definitely this fan girly moment for me. And then
(09:33):
how amazing was she? She was so fantastic and again
another person that just showed up ready to just talk
and be open with the crew, and I am so
grateful for guests like that because you can hear it
in the chemistry of the conversation and so definitely Kyler
for me.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Moment that made me laugh the hardest.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
I don't think I knew how absurdly ridiculous just found
the word fart.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
This was a surprise to me, you guys.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
And the fact that she's like on the floor tickled
by this word.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Think it gets me every time.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
I don't know, it's like just as like, so you
know her, she's like so chic, okay, you guys, Even
in real life it's super annoying. Like I'll roll out
of bed and like meet up with her for something,
and I will literally look like I've slept in you know,
the backyard and the sprinklers have been turned on, like
that's how I'm rolling up to her, and she'd be like,
oh my god, I just got out the shower and
(10:54):
she's like still annoyingly glowing.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
So it's just really funny to me.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
That fart is like her trigger happy word, and it
still makes me giggle when I hear her giggle. What
I've learned in the first year of this podcast not
to overthink stuff. In the early first few, you know.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Episodes, I wasn't overthinking it.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
I was you know, I went into it thinking like, Okay,
let's just be real me and just have a conversation
and see how this goes. But I wondered if people
would really even listen. And I think you can get
in your head when you're thinking in that way, and
very quickly I learned to drop that and just be
(11:45):
in the moment.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
And so.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
I think that that is that's what I've learned the
most in the first year. What was it like having
my husband on You guys are really I actually really
had a lot of fun with him, And I think
that you guys got to hear we're so private and
we've never done an interview together, so it's the first
(12:09):
time that you guys even you know we do. It's
interesting because we do a lot of interviews with co stars, right,
Like you've heard me and Chris Carmack talk together a
million times or all these other people on Gray's Anatomy,
and you get a sense of like that chemistry behind
the scenes and the friendship and you know, things that
you laugh about together and inside jokes and all those things.
But you never really do that with your family, and
(12:31):
so to have Matt on and for you guys to
get a little insight into our married life. Some people
joked in the comments like this is like a therapy
session for you get to get us, to get to.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
Be in like couple therapy with us. It was just
really fun.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
And I and I love that you guys got to
got to know like a different side of me because
obviously you're seeing me talk to my husband and it's
a little bit different.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Cameracry is gonna be different. Let me talk to Jess.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
So I thought that was actually like a really fun episode,
and I do think we should I joke that we
will never have him back on, but we will.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Definitely have to have him back on.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
I do think that we should also do an episode
with Chris Carmack and his wife Aarin. If you guys
don't follow them on social media, they're so fucking funny,
you guys, and I think the four of us together
because you know, we know each other well in real life,
would be really fun.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
Okay, what guess would I love for season two?
Speaker 1 (13:37):
I think that some of you could guess this, and
I know you're gonna laugh.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
I need a UFO alien expert. You guys, I.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Really think that, like call it what it is in
the crew good crack some of the secrets to the
universe in a podcast episode, and Jess as gonna, like
I roll her way through some of it.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Maybe, But and I'm not talking about like someone in there.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
We get someone who's like, you know, in their basement
with some janky telescope. They've gone off Amazon and they've
decided that they're now a UFO expert.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
I'm talking about like who.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Was head of the CIA during Roswell.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Are they still alive?
Speaker 1 (14:31):
I don't know, but if they are, they got to
come and call it is because I have a list
of questions, you know, I do, so really for me,
Aliens are gonna be? Aliens need to be a big
time episode for season two? And what episode would I
recommend to a brand new listener. I took some time
(14:54):
thinking about this question, and I kept.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Just thinking, like.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
I think that Jess and I, you know, and naturally
this happens anytime you start something new, you sort of
get in more of a rhythm and you kind of
find your flow more as you go along. And I
definitely think that we've gotten that as the podcast, you know,
as we've been recording more episodes through the year, But
(15:21):
I still think starting at the beginning is a good
start because I think you really get the backstory in
that very first episode of how this friendship between us started.
And I think starting at the beginning and going through
this journey with us, going through all the episodes that
way in the order that we sort of did them, I.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Don't know, hopefully you can hear.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
The growth in the podcast too, and like how the
crew comes along with us on the journey. I mean,
there's definitely so many episodes you can jump in and
listen to and it's all going to make sense and
hopefully they're going to be fun or you'll laugh with
us or you'll cry with us. But I almost feel
like that first episode, you know, we were so excited
(16:08):
to start something new, and you can hear that and
we're still so excited, but you know, there's a lot
of foundation building that we do in that first episode.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
But all of this is to say that.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
We're referencing this first year as our season one, and
we cannot wait. We feel like we're just getting started.
We can't wait for season two. We can't wait for
you guys to tell us who you want to see
on the podcast. We've already had so many incredible guests
on our first year it's honestly.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Blown my mind.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
But we want to hear more from you, and we
want to build on this community and continue this magic
that we feel.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
It's honestly.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
So fun every time I get on, and there are
days when I'm tired right and I'm like, I need
another cup of coffee or damn I want it, you know,
like I just need to take a.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Nap right now, but I got to go go do
the podcast.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
I've come away from the podcast feeling reinvigorated, happier, excited
for you guys to hear it, or even sometimes like
you know, when we kind of talk about more serious
things and we've cried on the podcast, I come away
feeling almost like a therapy session really with you guys,
(17:30):
and then to hear all your response back.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
I just I really hope.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
That you guys can hear in our voices how much
this means to us. So with that said, I'm going
to call at the end of the episode, and I'm
so excited please stick around for season two of Call
(17:57):
It What It is
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Astik took the sweet and taking a stet
