Speaker 1 (00:00):
There was somebody who had said something like Aaron's Benjamin
Button like you're reverse, No, you look like a million bucks,
and I adore you. Calm down with Erin and Carissa
is a production of iHeartRadio. I don't like the way
that signs of my aunt tis like I'm looking lately. Yeah,

(00:23):
I know when it gets like all like crunched up
in there. You said it looks like you know what
one time. Yeah, I know. We both look at us,
both having sleeveless turtle necks on. My gals in Chicago.
Tell everybody what we just did. I'm in Los Angeles
and we just finished interviewing our guest this week, Miranda Lambert.

(00:44):
That's a big get for I standing on in the box,
got your stop clapping, got a real good feeling, something
bad about to happen. Oh, No, one needs to sing
like that except her and Carrie Underwood. She was fantastic.
Ryan just said, grabbed the mic and hold it please.
I totally forgot hello, I'm here. Hello. She was fantastic,

(01:05):
And like I said, that's a big gap for us.
And by the way, it was just week one of
the NFL season and I've already lost my mind and
forgot to pick up your microphone. Have you ever done
that on the sidelines before? No, I don't know what
to be with a good time. I know you know
what I messed up on one time I clicked the
talk back button. Thank god, I did it in rehearsal

(01:26):
on the microphone. As you know, you've been doing it
for twenty something years, the talk back button. I thought
you had to hold that as you talked into the mic.
And it's fine. Everything's fine everyone. Week one is in
the books, although we're still waiting for the Monday night game.
We're recording this in the late afternoon here on a Monday.
My gow went to another event after this. Gal is
working nine to five, nine to nine. What a way

(01:48):
to make a living. So yeah, we got to interview Miranda.
Really excited for you guys to hear that interview. She's great.
Everything I want you just hope somebody is a certain
way and then they also bury much to look forward
to hear you guys hearing that also Week one, sister,
if the NFL on Fox, Instagram's any indication of the
way that this what a broadcast? Did you ever doing

(02:11):
the NFL on Fox? Ig I mean, they were just
they had one goal in mine. Tom Brady's first step,
tom Brady's first breath, tom Brady's kidding, it was your
first It was great. I'm you know what, I'm excited
for that he had that. He's done with this build
up to the FRESTU broad to you. But week one,
how was it for you? You were in Cleveland, we

(02:34):
were bland cowboys browns. Yeah, cowboys browns. Weird. When I
say it was a lot, it was a lot. And
it was a lot because it's week one, And for
some reason it was funny. I was talking to my dad,
I was talking to you. You were picking me up
off the floor. Just have a lot going on. I
found a lot going on and you look great. I

(02:55):
love you. I Uh. It was just for some reason,
I didn't feel like Stella had her I will tell
you this. I was really struggling in the confidence area
of the show. I really was heading into things. I
couldn't sleep for like two days leading up to it.
Not because of doing the broadcast, but you know, just
dealing with a lot of stuff going on with the baby,

(03:16):
my you know, our house, our air conditioner, crap, the bed.
The night before the game. It's only eighty degrees inside
our house, and I've got a baby and a dog,
and so it was just a lot. And I literally
told my dad, I know I've been doing this forever.
You said this to me. I've had much worse things
happen in my life where I've then had to camera lights, bitch, smile,

(03:39):
smile even when I want to die, but I wanted
to do I could not breathe. But then once we
started walking around for pregame, it was like, I'm back,
I'm back. And then yeah, here's a fun little one.
We were doing a quick rehearsal with Tom because you know,
we hadn't done it before where they throw it down
to me. People don't understand they're on stick my then

(04:00):
they have to go to headset and it's a whole
thing where they have to like get up and move
and all that. I completely butchered the shit out of
my open. I was like, and then I go, see,
Tom Brady, You're not the only one that struggles sometimes,
And I was like, so not that he was struggling,
but I was trying to make him feel better. That's hard.
I think what people don't understand. Steve said this too,

(04:24):
and not that Steve. Steve's an aspiring broadcast. This guy
think he's going to work at the local news. He
already has a name, Vinnie Martini. He was watching, uh,
I don't know whatever it was on Saturday, some college
football game, and he was like, I don't think people
realize how hard it is to do what you guys do.
Not that he has any understanding, but like, justin there's

(04:46):
so many things going on and I'm not acting like we're,
you know, doctors. Okay, that's not what I mean. I'm
just saying that it's like you have someone in your ear,
and then it's like for those guys up in the booth,
you've got stats guy, you've got a spotter, You've got
then you have to include all. Then we got to
get into promo. Oh now you gotta go back to studio, Chris.
It's got a highlight. Like there's like a million different
things going on, and I equate it to like you're

(05:08):
trying to juggle fifteen balls and hope they don't just
like all fall in there. So anyways, I thought you
guys were awesome. It was exciting that week one was
finally here. That's what I was like stoked about. I
was like, there's so totally talk in the off season.
It's like all this storyline in this storyline, and Week
one is met with a ton of optimism and everyone
starts off at the same place, and then the games

(05:29):
are over and now you're like, good for Baker Mayfield
and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I'm so happy, Like listening
to that broadcast yesterday and like the stories of like
what a great teammate he is, and there's an energy
about this team. They spend so much time together in
the off season and get to know their families and
him with his daughter, his new daughter on the sideline, Like,
I just am really happy for Baker Mayfield. So kudos

(05:50):
to him, Pittsburgh getting there when that was a nice
win for them. With all the back and forth of
like who's going to be starting quarterback? You had Buffalo sneaky,
Arizona look good. I know there's a lot of talk
about this could be a trap game for the Bills.
The Cardinals looked great at the beginning and the Bills
were able to pull out a victory there. Then you
had all the Tyreek Hill drama. This poor guy getting

(06:11):
arrested wrongfully the way like that was all so crazy.
It won't get into all of it because whatever you
guys have seen the clip, but like Jesus and then
him coming out and scoring like only Tyreek could do
with his hands behind his back, pretending to get arrested.
So the bill's get Miami getting a nice winn against Jaguars.
I don't know. I just am excited that it's you know,
football's here. Yeah, yeah, I thought. One thing that really

(06:36):
went along with my anxiety was that the night before
we were in our production meeting and it was you know,
everybody's like, how was it with Tom? How was it
with Tom? That's the coolest stuff is sitting in the
production meeting and having him break it all down. And
you know, there's a lot of times that I've known
him for a while, I've gotten to hang out with
him a lot off the field, which has been cool.
But always my favorite thing about hanging out with him

(06:57):
is his stories and the stuff. You know, he tells
it his inside, you know, just what it looks like
behind the scenes, and also his opinion on stuff. He
was telling a great story about, you know, traveling to
Europe with his teammates one time for a game that
was hysterical, but him breaking down the game in our meeting,
and he was saying, you know, there's a lot of
unknowns in the week, in the very first week of

(07:20):
this season, but there's also a lot of anxiety. He
was saying, this is at the time of year where
guys have the most anxiety because they're just like, I
don't know what's going to happen. I don't know, I
don't know how we're going to look like. We hope
we look some way, but we don't know how it's
going to all look. So I kind of thought that's
what our open was going to be about, all the
anxiety we were going through. But they took it one

(07:40):
way and I was still anxious. But it was a
lot of fun. I had a good time, and you
and I actually spoke till one point thirty in the
morning my time in Chicago, which was great. By the way,
we got on the set the scene, see Aaron started
texting me about something. I'm praying for everyone that's dealing
with the California Flyers right now. They're really bad and

(08:00):
Kevin and I might be impacted in a place that
we not have together Kevin. I'd love to have Kevin's house.
It's much bigger than mine. But really praying for everyone
with the California fires. So we were texting about that
and checking in on one another for something, and then
you text me and you were like, wait, let's just FaceTime.
So then you had just gotten off the phone with Jarrett.
Steve gets on FaceTime. Then we add Jarrett. So then

(08:21):
all of a sudden, and poor Jarrett, because I come
walking over with like a goblet of wine and I
come into frame and Jared goes, oh boy, because he
knows where this conversation is going to go, because Aaron
and I hadn't talked to each other after right after
the game, and so it was like put the seatbelt on,
buckle up because yeah. So and then two hours later
we've recapped everything everything, and I was like, whoh, I

(08:44):
got to go to bed, but yeah, we sat and
talked and oh, I was telling you about halftime and
this is another cool like being able to work with
Tom Brady and how fun this is. I thought it
was cool to throw to him in a game. I
thought it was cool to hear you throw to him
in a game, and him be like Carissa, he's still
the goat, you know, so that it's pretty awesome. But
at halftime, Mike McCarthy in a good mood coming out,

(09:07):
asking and to move by. They had gone for this
seventy one yard field goal. It would have been so
fun to see them do it. But I just said, hey, coach,
I know that you know, you don't really care what's
being said on the broadcast right now. But Tom Brady said,
you're calling a really good game. And I was going
to ask what part of the offensive play calling have
you enjoyed the most, or what do you like that

(09:28):
you're doing the most against this defense? And he looks
at me and he goes, well, tom Brady knows what
he's talking about. I do like that. He said that.
I was like, okay, thank you. Yeah, I thought so
it was fun to put in because I think this
is really interesting for people that obviously listen to this podcast.
They care about football and they care about us, and
I think that that behind like explain more like do
you go in with like just whatever they're going to say, obviously,

(09:52):
but like those agenda questions and then all of a
sudden having to pivot because I don't think. What people
also realize is how quickly you need to put that report. Together.
Yeah you have, Yeah, by the time you get the coach,
and if he's late coming out, then you're like scrambling
to put all your thoughts together. So I really that,
I really like getting a coach after the half because
going in, they are walking off, they're grabbing their stat sheets,

(10:15):
they're looking at the numbers. A lot of times, they're
getting an injury update, how bad a certain guy is.
They've just got a lot going on. They may be
pissed about the last play or or happy, or you
just don't know. I feel like halftime's good. Everybody can
go have a snack, maybe go potty. I never get
such a but and then look at the stat sheet,
get an update from the trainer. So I kind of

(10:36):
like that. It also gives me a second to kind
of figure out what I'm in half. I write down
on that weird little folder I carry things that are
happening in the game. But you still carry that thing. Yes, yeah, guys.
So I remember seeing on TV with it before I
actually thought in person, I was like, is she going

(10:57):
into a courtroom and going to like defend the pro
like be it. I don't know a prosecutor or defendant whatever.
Because it's opening and closing remarks. It's a black leather.
It opens up, and I'm like, what do you doing
with all of the little folders and slots and everything.
I'm like, I got I got my I got my

(11:18):
lineup or whatever it's called. I got my face sheet,
I got all my notes anyways, I got my notepad,
I got what I want a flip card and made
that flip card. That's but I couldn't when I couldn't,
Oh my god, I have landlines. My landline's ringing. So
but like I would freak out when I couldn't find
that thing and I was like, shit, who's thirty one?
Like I don't remember seeing it. And then you're like,

(11:38):
can't find the name exactly exactly, Okay, you still have
the folder on the report, And I like to write
down in there what the announcers are saying because that
helps me. I mean, Tom Brady knows what he's talking

(11:58):
about Kevin and not that I but at that point
I could say Tom said, you're doing a really great
job with the play calling. It means a little more
when it's coming from Tom Brady than it does me,
So I say that. So I use what the announcers
say a lot of the times to guide me in
what I'm going to ask the coach. Obviously they had
their defense was just pressuring the hell out of Deshaun Watson.

(12:21):
They'd only allowed I think forty something total yards at
that point. So what's working? What do you like? What
do you have to keep doing? But it's usually good
to ask an offense defense question and of course an
injury question as well. So and like you said, then
you run out and they're about to kick off and
you're like, oh my god, what did I just write down?
I know what I wrote down? And you're trying to walk. Oh,

(12:43):
it's like you black out. You're like what up? Every time?
So there's that, but that's it's also nice to you
think of it like a player, like you get the
week one jitters, not the jitters, but like you had
no com five you were feeling, get that out of
the way. And then and now you're in the groove.
Now you're rocking and yoblin, I'm just happy that it's

(13:07):
all finally here and you go on Thursday, where are
you going? Miami? I was just gonna say, yeah, I
need to pack tonight. I'm trying to be a few
things I'm trying to be better about this year is
my tech bag. I am. You're making fun of my
folder and you have a tech bag. Listen to yourself.
I'll tell you why. Because I lose your pop I
lose I have so many of these because I lose them,

(13:29):
and then I'll buy another one. And who do I
think I am to buy two hundred and fifty dollars
headphones every five seconds. It's ridiculous. In fact, I've now
named my last ones. Do not lose these, so when
they pop up on the screen and sink, I'm like,
do not lose these. So I bought a tech bag.
So my chargers my headphones, because you know, when you're
on the plane and you're charging your phone, then you
get up and then you leave the charger and that's
why I have to borrow one from you. So I'm

(13:51):
going to be really disciplined about my tech bag. I'm
going to be really disciplined about packing the night before,
making sure I pack my steamer. That is twenty years
into this gig. I'd actually do it, but Aaron bought
me my first travel steamer cue pink travel Steamer, so
I'm going to bring that, and then I want to
be really I feel I always prepare for games, but
I want to do extra preparation this year. I don't

(14:14):
want to. I don't want to wait to the last second.
I don't want to. I want to feel like going
into the game, I already have all the things I
need and then obviously, like once you're at the game,
and things you see and hear whatever can just be
the frosting on the cake. But I just want to
do a better job of being over prepared, is what
I want, instead of feeling like I'm cramming for the
exam and I wanted to do Yeah, so I head

(14:37):
to Miami Tomorrow's the answer. No, I can't wait for
you guys. I wanted to do that too, And I
still found myself up at eleven thirty at night going
over every rookie on Dallas's roster and making sure I
had something in case I needed it. It's always an
over prep situation, which also gets me going week one
of anxiety and fear because I'm like, do I have enough?

(14:59):
Do I not have enough? Yeah? I struggled this week. Wow, great,
I get no, I hate think I was better once
it all started and I saw the cheerleaders and all that,
and I was talking to Charlotte Jones about you know
how great the Netflix show was. I fell back. You know,
Jerry comes out on the field, we're all talking, laughing.
I felt great. When I saw the fistbub with Jerry

(15:21):
on the sideline, I said, my girl, you looked fantastic.
I literally I told you this last night. And I
know you're quick to like, you know, disregard compliments because
that's just who you are. But there was somebody who
had said something like Aaron's Benjamin, like your reverse your no,
you look like a million bucks. And I adore you.
And you know what, Yeah, you looked great, because that's

(15:43):
not all you know what I mean. I know you
haven't been Oh you were on air. Yes, well, first
of all, let's talk about that. And then something I'm
going to get in the habit of every single Monday
is to talk about our outfits. You looked great. It
was great to see all of you guys. You had me.
This is also was helping my anxiety was that I
turned you on and you're laughing, you're having fun. You're

(16:04):
telling the boys Charles and Julian to stop talking over you,
and then you're just cracking me up. They need to
knock it off. You know what I'm going to do.
You know what I'm going to do. I'm going to
pull a scene from Cameron Diaz and be bad teacher
my man. Okay, first of all, I got to say,
I'm so grateful to have these guys as teammates I have.

(16:24):
They're the back because I'm having Fuelian Shreger. They are
like just like my Thursday night crew, Like these are
like my brothers. We all went to dinner the night
or it's just like, I just love these people's humans,
which is exactly why I can tell them because they're
like family members to shut them. I love it up

(16:44):
these boys. I feel like I need to be a
teacher that puts them in time out for five minutes.
Let me get through the business off the top of
the show, and then you can chime in all you want. Okay,
but yeah, they I love them. They just have a
lot to say. They like us. You know who they were.
They were us on a podcast on Monday. There's no anyways,

(17:09):
But yeah, it's it's really nice to also have the
same crew. We have had a rotating past the last
few years, and that's because other people move on and
do other things, and you know whatever. It is nice
to have the same because again, like a team, you know,
not having you know, so many roster moves, it's like
nice to just have that consistency. And so then, so

(17:31):
I was excited about that year two with the same group.
And yes, my credit Vicky Trilling, thank you. I'm very,
very very spoiled at Fox. She gives me incredible clothing
where like I don't even want to have makeup on
when I put the outfit on because it's bet the
price tag on the things. She put me in a

(17:51):
beautiful Alexander McQueen dress and I just felt, you know,
And so yes, I also don't have my extensions in
as you know, I just chopped off my hair and
I'm going for my I'm in my Julian huff, flip
it back and forth and shout out to Nikki at
nine and zero one salon who colored my hair for me,
because I just needed a chop and a cut and

(18:14):
I'm gonna go with it. I'm gonna rock the short hair.
I'm so tired of hearing myself complain about extensions and breakage,
and I'm on a hair journey that's going to make
it healthy. So in the meantime, I am going for
shorty swing my way. Anyways, beautiful dress from Vicky, So
thank you so much and really excited for I have
a deal with Shop Bop for Thursday night for football
that I haven't decided what I'm gonna wear yet though

(18:37):
it's gonna be fucking hot. So the problem with that,
and no one knows this better than you do. You
bring two outfits even if you like look at the weather, like,
how does that work? Yeah? I always tend to go
for darker clothing in warm weather because I know I'll
sweat right through it unless it's a cream a white situation.
But like a blacker Navy, you're not going to see

(18:59):
this the red you may be screwed. Like a red pant.
I would my butt would sweat right through it, or
my stomach would sweat through the shirt. I have a
black you know, I love a leather and I'm like,
what am I doing bringing leather to Miami in September?
I know won leather dress it's a leather it's a
long leather pencil skirt with a black vest. It's au media.

(19:21):
Okay there, I mean your bum's going to be really sweating, right,
you're in Miami, your bum's going to be sweating anyways,
bums on you? Okay, Well, yeah, I gotta figure I
need option to that sounds really pretty. Oh thank you.
But yeah, it's weird when you cut your hair too,
because then I got to think about outfits like now,
because I'm I'm channeling Charlie's their own. Oh not that

(19:43):
I look at anything like Charlie's erral, but I'm channeling
that for like, you know how our obsession with Rosy
Huntington Whitley is or Whitely. I never know my hair
A chic dresser, that's my vibe. I'm going for chic.
I'm too old that. Let me tell you some of
these cast of characters that I see on television and
what they're wearing. I want to say to myself, you
are too old to be wearing that, And you're goddamn right.

(20:03):
I'm going to say you're too old for that because
there is a certain way to dress if you were
on television, because you represent your company, and I just
want to be like, do you want me to send
you an outfit because as I am maturing in my age,
we don't need to have everything out and everything distracting. No,
you dress appropriate, so that's going to be me appropriate.
Gal che cheek. I do think that is part of

(20:25):
the job description. I loved what I wore yesterday and yeah,
that's that's to hide my neck. My neck. I had
this Alta Zorra suit on that we thought it was
going to be a little bit more chilly than it was,
but it's okay. It still worked, It felt a little

(20:47):
it was cute. It was I don't even know what
material it was, but it had a little sparkle in it.
And as the night it got darker and darker and
the lights came on, the sparkle. Hi, Josie jose just
walked in. But can I tell you about so I've
love the altars are you can move any of that,
any of that crap out of the way. We had that.
But can I tell you about this body suit that
I wore that I liked as well naked wardrobe. The

(21:10):
body suit was phenomenal. Yeah, how is how are the
snaps that's what we always have to think about. Alan
tourso kind of gal. It wasn't something I would live in,
but I behave. I you know, was in it for
seven hours and and I think they were comfortable. Right,
was it? It was a tank. It was a black
tank one. It was a black tank body suit. Yeah,

(21:32):
what were our shoes situation? Because I know you always
have to think differently for that because you're walking around.
I wore a black boot, kind of pointy lower heel,
got through it? Okay, you did you wear a lower heel?
A little lower of a hero? Would I say it
was a little lower of a heel? My god, listen,
Danielle is really trying to motivate me. Wait these earrings.

(21:54):
This was my jewelry. D I love them so much.
I don't know care. I'm not sure. No, I won't
lose them. But let me see right now whose earrings
they are? Because I was so excited, Melinda, Maria, jewelry ridiculous.
Those are absolutely beautiful. Yeah, please don't no, no, no,

(22:14):
I won't lose you know, you're very beautiful. I'm not responsible.
That's why no one's learning with jewelry. These are players great, No,
I'm I'm wait for this one. I'm thrilled for us. No,
I'm every single year. I never ever, And I know
you don't either take for granted that we get to
do a job that we absolutely love with people we

(22:35):
absolutely love we have. We are so lucky to have
the employers that we have, and I just, yeah, we
we were. I was saying to Steve when I was
like prepping on Saturday, I go, are you paid to
talk about football on television? Now? I know what it's
I agree, I agree, and I don't think that's to
be arrogant. I'm saying no with gratitude. It's why I

(22:58):
try so hard in the moment, you know, just be
like this is so bad ass. I mean in the
third quarter, I finally looked at my security and I
was like, I have to go pee, And he goes,
why do you hold it this long? I go, I
don't want to miss a bet of this, don't. I
don't want to miss a minute. No, chronic ut I
is for doing that. Do not do that. But I
appreciate that you don't want to miss a moment, But

(23:18):
at all with my folder moments I'm going to be
missing is the dinner party because I'm getting up to
go to the bathroom every five seconds to avoid the
chronic ut. It's not a place you want to be.
They've gotten better, and thank you for asking because I
go to the bathroom and with that, we love you.
Thank you guys for listening, and again, please send us

(23:39):
the DM. Oh my god, we learned a fun fact
from Miranda about what she sends to people, what her
DM game is like. It's not what you think. It
has to do with collaborations. You'll hear more on that
on The Big Show or Miranda Lambert this week. She
is everything you want and I kind of felt like

(24:00):
really quickly that we had arrived by having her on
the podcast. Okay, I like that. I was so nervous,
but it was great. Calm Down with Erin and Carissa

I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
