one of the biggest events of the year joined Revnet,
Fairchild Events and Cannabis Talk one oh one will all

football game going on out there as well, So it's
gonna be good on the show today. Yeah, I have
to see what super Bowl weekend there this show right here.
These guys very interesting because we met them at m

(01:25):
J Biz at an after party, and we didn't meet Derek,
but David we met in his son Nate. But David
and Derek de at Lee there we go. There brothers
who are the owners of Governor's Cut Cannabis. They're both
born and raised out here in the city of Orange, California,
which is interesting. Then they moved to Needles, California, back

(01:45):
in good old nineteen seventy three, forty nine years ago, folks.
They moved out there where they started a successful family
food service distribution companies, still operating today generating millions of dollars.
Now they currently own an indoor cannabis cultivation facility out
there and Needles as well, and entered into the legal
cannabis industry in two thousand seventeen. Now, Davidson Nathan is

(02:09):
the director of sales and Marketing responsible for launching the
brand Governor's Cut right here in good old California. Cool
family fact about these guys Blue David n s And
Nate both graduated from Arizona State University. I mean that's
kind of cool because those that's a good school right there.
Make sure you check out their website governors Cultivation dot

(02:31):
com social media and I g and all that other
good stuff is Governor's Cut underscore official. And I like
what I read on the website, gentlemen, which is when
I did the about us, and it says Governors Cut
Cultivation is a family owned and operated indoor cultivation facility
located in Needles, California. They like to think of themselves

(02:52):
as a small batch craft cultivators. Unlike many of the
large scale indoor operations. They focus on quantity over quality.
Now quality to me, if I read that right, my
dyslexy I kicked in. They focus on quality over quantity.

(03:12):
People always ask what makes them different from other brands
in the industry, and it's very simple, no outside parties,
just two brothers and a son who are hands on
in every operational aspect from seed to sale. So welcome
to the show, gentlemen. Give him a round of applause,
and and you know what, it was very memorable. I

(03:34):
literally remember the conversation exactly where I was standing outside,
because when we were talking, one of the things that
stood out to me was that, a it's a family
owned business. The brother wasn't there, it was his father
and son. But also hearing Gramps is involved too, so
there's the three generations and Graham's still smokes weed and

(03:54):
everything else. So, like I said, the conversation was men, morble,
your guys personality was memorable. I had a great time
with you there. But to just remember, like when I
seen you guys, well come back, hey, I remember, I
remember you too. Oh my god. We met at MG
Bizz at the party, and then I was in my
head going Grandpa was supposed to come, and then I

(04:15):
was like, he's a little young to be your father.
Well we thought about bringing Gramps along. That we thought
another time. But he's a he's a real riot. He's
got to know us. A little better. Yeah, he's got
he's got no filter when you when you get to
talk to him, he'll tell you the way it is.
Plus someone had to stay back and run the day business.
So right, somebody's got to keep that going. So let

(04:38):
me get to it right away. I mean, I just
heard you guys are from Orange, which is cool. You
guys got the southern California time move out to Needles,
which is funny because Blue has got a place out there,
and Needles as well, which is even more ironically. I
think we talked about that at the play the party. Yeah,
we just went over and went over the whole where
it's yeah, exactly, and how from family distribution company? What

(04:59):
is the distribution What do you guys do there? First off? So, uh, yeah,
we basically we distribute food and products, you know, whether
it's restaurants, UM, convenience stores, supermarkets. We're the guy that
brings the food to uh, to the table, you know,
to wherever you're you know, wherever you're at. So um,

(05:20):
you know, it's it's been a forty five year we've
been involved in it, since we moved out to Needles,
and it's uh, it's been something that's always been a
family run and uh, you know that's the way you know,
our father was. He expected us to uh to come
to work every day, put in a hard day's work,
and you know, it's taught us a lot of good

(05:40):
valuable lessons on what we you know, bring to uh,
you know, the cannabis side as well, so and so
doing that company. I mean, I believe I said, you
guys started your cannabis industry in two thousands seventeen. How
does that go from distributing food everywhere going I think
we want to get into this cannaby scheme. Well, there's

(06:01):
a lot of similarities in the two businesses. You've got
climate control, Uh, you've got distribution, you have you know,
the acquiring products. So uh that that and also our
retail presence is what's kind of driven us to where
we're at today. We were the guy that goes and
puts the milk bottle on the shelf and the guy
that puts the ice cream in the cabinet. So we decided,

(06:24):
you know, we can do this. You know, we can
go in and we can create an environment where we
are servicing these accounts, you know, on a bi weekly basis. Yeah,
putting in orders, rotating product, making sure the shelves are
clean and sanitary. That's what we do on our dairy
side of our retail business. So it's just fit for

(06:45):
us and we think it's a good niche let me
ask you guys this, let's back up a little bit
real quick, because you know what what high school do
you guys go to? Hi? Hi? I went to the
one down the road River Valley. Whoever trained? This guy's
the house? Because this this kid's everywhere he shows that
pops up. Hey, what's up, dude? There you are? Oh yeah,

(07:06):
he's a gem like governor. He's representing hard he does.
He pulls up everywhere And I love that kind of hustle,
right because you can't. You know, it's something you have to.
It's got to be instilled in you. You know, he
grew up in that family business with that work ethic. Yeah,
it really does. Now, Now, what's the name of your guys?
Do you guys want to disclose the company? Sure? Yeah,

(07:28):
DECO Food Service. So it's short for the Athlete Company. Yeah. Yeah.
It started um, you know earlier it was a small
butcher's shop. People came in. It was you bought a
side of beef you put your product and a frozen
We were actually Needles frozen food lockers back in those days.
And Dad was delivering milk bottles, you know, home delivery,

(07:50):
door to door glass. He was the guy with the
white suit and the slide door truck. Are you hiding?
And he was a local milkman. Is that out of
we were doing that Needles, so we all need Yeah,
we were a carnation distributor back in those That was
before Laffela, Nevada, before Lake Havasu. Wow, Needles was the
mecca of the of the You know, Needles has actually

(08:13):
grown quite a bit. I mean that place is still growing.
But but how do you guys literally, yeah, how do
you guys? You know, looking at the at the cannabis
industry right now, you're coming into it now. We we
talked off there um and and you know, you feel
free to to say whatever you'd like. But you know,
there was a point where you said, you know, you
were going after your license. You met some guys that

(08:34):
didn't work out. Let's let's go into that story first,
because those are some of the things that people need
to know, you know about your guys struggle. You know
it did just come here because you had money and
you all of a sudden you're in this this industry.
There's a bigger, deeper story. Can you guys show that
with me? Yeah, I think I can start off with
that one. You know, growing up, I was always you know, born,
raised under that family environment, always hustling, you know, working

(08:55):
for what I wanted. And you know, so I had
a landscaping business boat deep telling and I was doing
that since you know, thirteen years old up to you know, eighteen,
I graduated high school. You know, I built up over
twenty plus accounts, and you know, one of the accounts
happened to have a buddy who was in the industry
down here, and I had a lot of guys who
were backing him financially, and they saw our our warehouse,

(09:18):
and so that's kind of how all the talks started.
And you know, I connected him when he was like, hey,
do you mind, uh, you know, connecting me to your
pops and your uncle, I'm like, man, I don't know,
if you know, I don't know what they would think.
So they might know that I'm so at then age,
he didn't know much about our past, right, So I'm like, hey, Pops,

(09:39):
call this guy, see what it's about, and he calls
you back. He's like, dude, they want to grow weed. Man,
we're in let's do good job. Son. So that's kind
of like the whole uh, you know, it's basically how
it started. Man. It was so random and it just
popped up and you know, we uh we really you know,
really caught our interests. You know, we did our research.

(10:01):
You know, we connected the right people in the industry,
and here we are. And now because I feel like
there's so much more to that story because like, you
met with those guys and they're not here. So yeah,
elaborate because you know, I mean that for for you
to hook that up Nate and then say, hey, Dad
was there? Also, why the fund did you have me
talk to those guys? Son from there? But yeah, exactly, No, Honestly,

(10:27):
we sat down with this guy and you know, it
was kind of like, you know, we're like, wow, this
is uh, this is too good to be true, you know,
and obviously it kind of it was. And of sitting
there saying, guys, there he knows Anta Claus. You know,
We're like, there's gonna be great, We're gonna be rich.
You know, he's offering us this crazy amount of money
and this is how much profound we're gonna make. And yeah,

(10:50):
we were, you know, we were ready to shut down
the family business, you know, turn the cold storage. And
this was back in seventeen when you know the market
was killing was killing it. Yeah. Yeah, so she didn't
down the family business. No, but but well kind of.
We're getting all these wheels in motion and putting everything together.
You know, we decide, okay, let's get these permits going
because there's a big rush at that time. You know,

(11:11):
if you don't get in line quick, you're gonna be
waiting years up. So we did what we had to do.
We hawked all of you know, everything we had to
cash in our four one ks um and got these permits.
And right as we get on the guy, we get
the call, you know, hey, sorry guys, I'm out, and
we're like, holy sh it, what are we gonna We're
Santa no kids, and we're like, what are we gonna

(11:35):
do in the city is basically, hey, you know, you
better use your cup or we're pulling it. And uh
so that's when we decided to wrap your head around
it wrapped our head around it and you know, and
do it. This is after we had already the city
didn't really like where we were located. They wanted to
kind of keep things over here, and we're over here,
and so we were too close to a school or

(11:58):
too close to a church. Were two close to a
Girl Scout building. So you know, we just went to
each one of them and we said, hey, you know,
you know, you know church, church, you know, I mean,
what what what's your needs? You know, what are you
guys doing here? And it was a small building. They said, well,
we need a bigger building. So we made that happen.
And the little school that was over there was an
outreach for kids who had been suspended from the main

(12:19):
high school. Went to the superintendent, you know, I have
to pay for all these cultivation kids coming into town,
if you could provide me with a building without rent,
So we made that happen. And the Girl Scout building
was vacant, but they made us buy that too. Anyways,
so we had to jump through a lot of hurdles
to make this happen. And then not only that, you're
adding to the community there and doing your due diligence

(12:40):
of being a part of the community, which that's what
I'm hearing. Yes, it's a struggle, but you're also doing
right by it even though it's hitting your pockets of
course as a family business, but you're really giving back
to the community because in at risk school like that,
let's just call it what it is, right kids that
are at risk. And then to think of it going

(13:01):
some of those at risk kids might have got kicked
out for some cannabis related something. Who knows, fighting, who
knows there's a in this reasons, you know, and then
they can see that, wow, a cannabis company can be
something that I can get into to make up career
out of. Even so you're really just I see it
a being a good cycle in a small town. The

(13:23):
depths of it, we're kind of amazing. We were. The
building we bought for the school was owned by the Elks.
The Elks need a new roof. They couldn't afford it
that you know, it just went on and on. It was.
We really helped a lot of things happen in that town.
And you know, a lot of people would have just
tried to beat through every system and not do any
of those things and just try to you know, but
it instead he went straight up and and and handled
each individual one, which tells us a lot of character

(13:45):
abouts you guys. So I would agree, and not only that,
it makes me feel like I didn't know this part
of the story at all. Right, So, hearing this part
of the story about Governor's cut, that this is what
you guys a had to go through because you got
screwed by a guy, and then realizing all the stories
that we hear about that go down in the industry.
Too close to schools, too close to churches, you know,
all these things that we've constantly heard, and we know

(14:05):
about the regulations, but to think that that's what you
guys did about it rather than burn it down. And
we even had to do the sidewalks as but you know,
the city made the cannabis guys. We do side rocks,
and we do alleys and put an infrastructure, some flower
beds stre So did you have any girl experience before this?

(14:29):
After this break, it's Cannabis Talk one and one over
right back, would be right back to Cannabis Talk one
oh one. Welcome back to Cannabis Talk one oh one.

(14:50):

online at baar Flag group dot com. Now, before I
get into back to the story and what Blue asked
before the break, First off, who's older David or Derek

(15:13):
uh okay um? And during the break, we were talking
about the great stories about what you guys did and
had to go through the hoops. You guys had to
jump the schooling. You guys moved a school, like that's
not an easy task, like and you were kind of
describing it where I kind of cut you off. Please

(15:34):
share that story again as we can, you know, go
back to that going, how the hell do you move
a school? This is like something that's on Google, this
is something that's on everything the district. I mean, you
know what I mean, Like, how do you convince the
whole district and everybody else? You know what I'm down
to move the school? Yeah, it was a for cannabis

(15:55):
at that for cannabis. Yeah, that's the most of the
kids got kicked of the high school board, right. You know,
well we got pushed in, you know. I mean, oh,
you know, we're in this thing. We're already you know,
up to here, and these hurdles keep coming our way
and we're just like, you know, the city's coming to us.
And they're like you gotta you know, there's a school
you've got a clearance issue, and we're like, no way.

(16:17):
So we start checking the distances and we're like five
hundred and nine were like five feet away from We're like,
what are we gonna do? Well, you know, they're kind
of on a in this old strip mall. It was
kind of like just a building. The City and Needle
or the Needle school district, you know, didn't have a
lot of extra money. So you know, we're like, what

(16:37):
the hell. Let's go sit down with the superintendent named
Dr Mary and very nice lady, and we told her
what we wanted to do. We said, you know, we're like,
no way is she gonna go for this. We want
to move her to grow cannabis. That's kind of conflicting
with all the school ethics yeah, like and she you know,
she's I don't know, David. We're like, here's what we're

(17:00):
gonna offer you. You know, we want to move you
to a nicer building and a better location. Your kids
will love it. And she's like, I'm all about it.
If it's better for the kids, it's better for the students.
She goes, I'm on board. And it worked out she
was paying rent for this building. So she said, you know,
these extra kids that are gonna be coming in, I'm
gonna have to teach him and educate them. So you know,

(17:21):
I need everything I can get to help that effort.
So you give me a rent free building, and and heck, yeah,
I have to accept that not just a woman. Did
you guys do that for life? I mean, how does
that work? We were going to give her the building
because just gave the building, well the numbers you know
on back in seventeen. You can have your building. Yeah,
take the building. The building. We're gonna start for rowing.

(17:42):
We're gonna make you want to How great is that? Though?
And only that has the city acknowledge you guys for this?
I mean, because when I hear a story like that
about Governor's cut of had no clue that obviously you
guys did that. This flower smells amazing, looks amazing, Your
product looks great. But to hear this story that you
guys did to actually help out a whole school and

(18:05):
buy a new school, and Nate you were saying to
put a flower bed, I mean, you guys did it up.
Like yeah, no, they they gave us a whole on
list and we had to meet every single you know,
criteria to get our licenses approved. So it was you know,
it was a lengthy process. You know. They they dove
into it more than I was at the time. You know,
I was a youngster, but you know I got to

(18:26):
see the whole process, you know, from time I was
a yeah I know, I know, but you know there
was yeah, so I um, but you know, I let
them get their hands dirty. Man. I just kind of
brought the deal at the table, that's all. I know.
It's beautiful that you guys get to work together your family.
I mean, you know, you know, Dave, you're telling me
off that you know, it's it's it's right now. It's

(18:47):
in the same you know, on the same property as
as your other company. So you guys get to have
I'm sure your wives would work with your girlfriends and
stuff like that as well. Or you guys are both uh,
you know, they kind of got their own things go
and they come down from time to time and help out,
just like you know mom and dad come down whenever
we need help. You know, Dad will go he loves

(19:07):
to come into the rooms and check on the flower.
And he comes up. Oh boys, it's looking good this time.
You know, he goes in every day. How much you
think we're in harvest this week? Go around? So he's
eighty three. But and you know what's funny is you
know he comes from a generation where you know, this
is Devil's where you don't do you know, smoke it.
You'll you know, you'll be doing heroin before you know.
It's a gateway drug and everything else. What about your mom?

(19:31):
How did your mom look at it? You know what
she's uh, you know, she's all on board. You know,
Mom's all about if it makes money. Well, the thing's
been interesting to about the about what's happened to the
older generation as they discovered that. You know, back in
the day, it was you know, drink your wine at night,
maybe take opiuch, you know, do things that were really
bad for your body to help your pain. Well now

(19:52):
they're all you know, taking the gummy, you know, and
just and doing those things, and it's it's helping him
a lot, and it's not nearly as bad for him
is the old way. So your parents actually and just cannabis,
they tell us at CBD, but I look at the back,
this CBD ain't strong enough. So great is that, Derek?

(20:14):
Like Mom? That package not four point two? Dad, ain't
the whole buttered popcorn? Right, Like Dad's sitting there, he's
watching this blake screen. This is a great game, Dad.
The TV's not on watching sixty minutes. But you know,
if it cuts back on those other crutches, you know that.
You know when you get older, you got pain, you know, Yeah,

(20:35):
it was a better way to deal with it. You know.
It's funny because in my home is it was never illegal, right,
I mean my mom. It was with my mom, but
it wasn't with my dad's looks like the state and
the feds, right, Like you know, I could get caught
with my daddy, is like I just steal some of
his weed or heids here I joined. My mom sees me.
It was like your dad. Yeah, yeah, you know, so
it was kind of like I had to hide it

(20:56):
from her. But my dad he couldn't. He could smoke
in the house, but not in front of us, all
the whole house. That's I grew up with it. So
it wasn't you my dad. My dad wouldn't even miss
the whole pounds. Right. So now as we go to

(21:16):
Governor's cut cannabis, how many different product lines? Excused do
you guys have? What is your guys specialties? So right
now we're currently you know, we're trying to keep the
thing simple and you know, do them right. You know,
I feel like a lot of you know, a bigger
brands you don't jump out, you know, over their heads.
So we're going simple with a three and a half
grand Flower jars or seven Graham smalls and you know

(21:37):
our one Graham straight up flower pre rolls, no bullshit trim,
none of that, you know, just doing things right. And
I build a lot of this data by getting our
whole goal. When I decided to launch this brand, you know,
I said, hey, we need to do this. You know
that the market was you know, starting to trend downwards
on the bulk pricing and We're like, we gotta get
closer with and consumers. So I built my data. I

(21:58):
reached out to you know, um customers in the shops,
talked about tenders, talk to owners, you know, just building
that data. So really trying to figure out the best
skews to bring, you know, to the table that we
can you know, execute on small amounts because you can
spread it out farther and have bigger revenue for you
guys as a company. You know, how many stories, how
many stores are you guys currently? We're in currently ten

(22:20):
ten retail stores right now, and then we have two
delivery systems that we're in and it's just just work
and work and work and trying to build that number up.
So yeah, you know, sometimes it's funny because a lot
of people are like, I want to be in more stores,
and you know, and I'm gonna give you guys advice
from from what I know. You know, sometimes it's not
about the most stores, it's about the right stores exactly, operators,

(22:42):
because as you guys may know, some people don't pay
their bills, you know, and and it's you know, there's
been a roller coaster, but you know, I've been in
this industry so long that I've seen this roller coaster already,
Like I've already been a part of this. I've been
a part of the market going away the hell up,
come away down, and then and then leveling out that
people disappearance with your weed. And then every holiday it's

(23:02):
like that's the worst time to give people stuff because
they're trying to load up for themselves. And then and
then you know, right about now they start coming back.
Well here I got your money. If they're somewhat good,
you know, And it's just kind of like this this
roller coaster. Well, I think you guys have a good product. Actually,
you know what was this all a smelling here? So
this is our mile high BUSCOTTI that's a biscotti discs

(23:25):
one fired, dude, I haven't I agree. I looked at
both of those jars that open up. But I'm just
like so good to touch the field, the sticky icky,
the crystals you can look at. We're real proud of these,
you know. I got to give the props to Derek.
You know, he's a madman when it comes into um,
you know, the cultivation side of things. We do things differently,

(23:46):
you know from other cultivations in the industry, Like what
like care you mean like go go into a Derek. Well,
what what we know is um is we have to
work on the quality. We're not going to stay up
with the big guys with the quantity and and nothing
against them. That's their market. You know, they need to
be able to to get the most they can out
of those facilities. But what you find when you start

(24:08):
that machine is that your mother's and your clones and
your and your and your vege have to push the
flower out of the room because you can't say, oh,
the trikes aren't ready yet. It doesn't matter that the
rest of it's coming. So you gotta pull it. You
gotta get it out of the room. So we didn't
want to take that avenue. So we we want to

(24:31):
we want to finish the product all the way. So
if it takes fourteen weeks, we're gonna go fourteen weeks.
If we have to burn a couple of weeks with
a room without product ready to go into it, we're
gonna do that because we want to make sure that
that product is finished. The trikes are perfect, the everything
that we want, the nose on that we want all
aspects of it, because that's that's what we're doing in

(24:53):
this industry. That's our niche. It's craft cannabis, and we
want that product finished. We do not want to pull
it prematurely because we've got this machine coming that has
to push that product out of those rooms because otherwise
the otherwise those are ain't gonna work. You know. I
like that that's even part of the logo. I didn't
realize it because David's head was in the way where
where craft says, and I'm like, you're right, it is

(25:14):
a craft cannabis and smelling. I'm like, oh sho, it's
part of your guys' slogo and lower slogan and logan slogan.
You had tied a boat to day together there. And
I believe what we've talked about before is companies like
your guys are going to be the ones that can
sustain because it's that craft style, just like those craft

(25:35):
beers right the most of this and that I feel
like seeing us and hearing what you were saying, how
you guys are doing yours, that's what's gonna be unique
about your guys brand. On top of the story I
just heard about what you guys have went through and
the three generations of family dynamic of what you guys
are doing. I've been impressed with the company, even more

(25:56):
so now hearing what you said, your story about it.
But hearing you guys in Vegas when we met organically
at an outside venue that was nothing pushed us together.
And I love now even more so the way it smells,
the way it looks hearing your guys story. Are you
guys planning now to try to do this in other states,

(26:16):
to be a multi state operator. I mean, at this point,
we've got our hands full right here, you know, and
and uh, you know, we just want to take it
one day at a time and just really focus on
when we go to these events like we're you know,
at the Bear Flag you know, can a casino the
other night, we just came in third place, by the way. No, No,

(26:38):
the thing is is is I didn't even know we
were playing for a rolex and and uh, but I
had everybody the whole table beat I had. I had
all the chips right and and uh and Bear flags
and my friends and family. I love those guys. But
I got robbed at the table by the by the
Flag folk. No, No, it wasn't their fault. It was
the casino guy. So the guys the chip leader, and

(27:01):
I'm sitting there winning and then all of a sudden,
the guys like, hey, we're gonna color these up. And
I had all these black chips, right, I had the
whole table's black chips, right, and there was like, you know,
the five thousand dollar chips, and then he gave me
a stack of three chips and he was like those
a thousand dollar chips. And I'm like and I'm like, hey,
I'm more than three thousand here, I've got more than
three thousands and all that, but he gave me five chips.

(27:23):
So he gave me three five chips, So I caught
the dealer caught it. The dealers like hey, and he's
like and they started arguing with each other, and then
they're arguing with each other and then he gives this
this guy like ten uh thousand dollar chips and the
guy's like whoa, whoa. The dealers like freaking out, and
I'm like, guys, listen, it's for charity, dude, like just stop.

(27:44):
Like they were arguing, yeah, and then I got my
ask with like you know, yeah, I think that was
the dealer. I tossed a pre roll beforehand Canada. But anyways,
that was my story. But I really think I could
have won that night if I if I get I
kind of got hustled at the table. It's funny, it was,
and they see that going down soon because we're all

(28:06):
sitting right there and I'm like, guys, if I win this,
uh you know the role like I'm giving it back
to you guys, like let's let's roll it again. You
know that's funny. Going back to the multi state operator, David,
as you say day to day, in my belief looking
at companies and seeing their worth, work, ethics, your guys
are the type of company you know. Granted, if you

(28:28):
think of the Kirklands that are of course bigger and
to go huge like that, but everything from talking to
you guys, everything I just said, You're guys are the
ones I'm cheering for to be a craft brand that
starts off like this and then goes to that next state.
So I look at you guys and go, dude, you're
what that next state needs. Because if people are doing

(28:50):
what you say, Derek, and you're waiting for the for
the cannabis to be that right, who cares like that? Well,
you know, let me chime in one second. I want
to kind of go into that to Derek and Dave,
and I think you guys have something real special because
you're one. You know, you probably own the buildings, right,
so you don't have these crazy overheads, no balloon payments,

(29:11):
all this other stuff. Um, you had to do it
from the from the you know, from the ground up.
You had to go in there and build it. Because
you're in the middle of needles. You didn't have a
lot of supporting guarantee you. There was just not And
so you're in a small town and your family has
had a legacy there. So I think, you know, kind
of a little obviously, I think he's in a great
place because you can really fine tunes. You got build

(29:32):
something real nice, have a nice family business, take care
of yourselves as another revenue stream for you, keep it smart,
keep it simple, and then you know, if you get
the opportunity someone wants to branch out from it, you know,
maybe license to name something like that. But but I
mean they're in a great spot. Like a lot of
these operators, I watched them going these little they gotta
buy a building, they're renting a building. Yeah, you don't
have it all. They bought the building when the building

(29:54):
was inflated. Because everybody is hyped up. If you're I
mean these guys, I don't know how we feel good
right now. One of the things that that we're excited
about is, you know, we're not a fledgling market right now.
It's a bit of a struggle for a lot of people,
including us. This is Nate's first big effort out here.
He's gonna only got one way to go. It's only

(30:16):
going up from here. The market is gonna stabilize, the
people are gonna make it, gonna make it. It's gonna
become a business. Needles is going to be a great
place to grow cannabis. We have very cheap power, we
have cheap labor, cheap taxes. It's the freight to freight
cannabis two hundred fifty miles down here to the metropolitan
areas is nothing. And you can put a million bucks

(30:36):
in a prius in our food service business, eighty thousand
pounds cost me four thousand dollars and ship back and forth.
So you know, I think it's gonna be a lot
of synergies out there. And Nate here has got nowhere
to go but up. We we feel good about the future.
You're right off the forty right right, come on, it's
the ends. And now it's right there. You're at the

(30:57):
you're at the border. You know, so when does cross
it would and we we believe it will, you know.
Um and and there's distributions on a federal level. It's
just gonna open up for all of us. And I
think I said, you're in a great place right there.
A lot of a lot of you know, family ties.
This this isn't be something that adds down to your kids.

(31:17):
And when you guys are saying, man, we've been here
since you know, whatever year you were there in nineteen
seventy three, I wasn't even here on earth yet. Yeah. Yeah,
we'll be able to tap three different states when it federalizes. Yeah,
we'll have three different states. You know. Maybe we say,
you know what, maybe I don't know if California is
gonna keep us competitive or not. We could move across
the river, you know right now where we're at. But

(31:40):
you know, but but we're always going to We're always
going to be competitive in this market. I mean, that
was my whole thing when I came down here. You know,
after I graduated U s U, I got that fifty
thousand always piece of paper, you know, and uh, the
one thing I really learned, you know, was you know
how to read market trans and patterns. And that was
the biggest thing. Is just asking the qualifying questions, getting

(32:02):
the answers and building the data and doing the small
things right. So you know, it was very simple, you know,
darre If Derek goes good weed, I'm confident what I sell.
So at the end, it all comes down to trust,
you know. When uh, you know a manager or the
shop owners. He's at twenty three year old kid coming
to the shop, like, who the hell is this guy shirt?

(32:23):
So what does he know? He's like my uncle crew
this ship. And speaking of that, we're gonna take a
break real quick, Derek, how did you learn how to
grow cannabis? When we come back, we're gonna hear that
story from the Governor's cut Craft Cannabis out of Needles, California.
It's Cannabis Talk one oh one. When we right back
after this break, we'd be right back with Cannabis Talk
one oh one. Welcome back to Cannabis Talk one oh one.

(32:50):
Advancing treat You guys have a complete growing system with cannabis,
have optimizes all phases and cycles to be a cross
to choose, be able to compet, to discover more at
advanced metis dot com. And of course you can love
it as much as you want. To go ahead and
grow some more with advanced new treats. I was just
going to break and Derek, you're the master grower, then, yeah,
that's what I call myself. So Derek and Derek, Derek

(33:14):
and I the weed guy. So how does that come about? Derek?
How do you you're the older brother, you know, how
do you become the connoisseur of growing? So? Um so?
Back in the past, you know, we all kind of
played around with with our with growing. Got real good
at four plants in a tent, you know, back in
the day of those kind of things. The challenge came

(33:35):
along when four plants went to six hundred and a
thousand plants all of a sudden, that's a whole different
ball game. Then you really discover what bugs are, and
you know your route APIs and all these terrible tests
that you wouldn't think it even be in the desert,
but boy, they get there. How do you manage them.
Uh So what we did was, uh we we reached

(33:56):
out to a lot of the larger growers in town.
We we helped them out with things we had, Like
you know, a guy would have to move a whole facility.
We loaned our trucks and he'd say, oh, how much
do I owe you in we'd say, you know, help
us out with your big growers, you know, help us
get set up. You know, do we want the rolling tables?
Do we want the automatic drip systems? Do we want
all that which we discovered? We did? And you know,

(34:18):
and then then you know, hey, have you guys gone
into the royal crop steering yet? You know? And what's that?
And you know a couple of years ago that was
a game changer, you know, and and you know, now
the latest building we built, I mean, it's we would
call it state of the art. I mean we've got
every sensor, every bell, every whistle. I mean, you know,
it's it's made it to where it eliminates the mistakes

(34:40):
when you're growing in a commercial environment. It's all about
the mistake because it only takes one and using your
resources too. Yeah, so you know, you just you know
that the Royal system. It tells you if one of
your workers left the lights on during flower. It tells
you if your pump didn't go on, or if you
had a line break with your water content meters. Know,
it tells you when your ecs are getting too high

(35:02):
needed in flush. You know, things that before you got
on YouTube. And you know, remember my brother and I
were first starting out in the in the industry four
years ago and we go into one of the big
distributors and the first thing that get we said, hey,
we're just starting, you know, set us up with some stuff.
And the guy said, and one more thing, don't go
on YouTube. And next thing, you know, how many master

(35:26):
growers are on YouTube? Right, So so we figured out,
you know, take all that. You know, there's a lot
of good information out there. There's a lot of great
stuff to see. But don't believe that guy that's three
am in the morning making a half million a year
telling you how to grow. He's like, yeah, I just
read it myself, but teach these guys how to do
this show. Oh yeah, he's getting he's collecting his own
back guano and swimming out getting his own kelp, right,

(35:47):
And I'm just like I don't think so, man, not
on our levels. So yeah, Now, so basically we uh,
we were able to make make friends with all the
big houses and see all the different things they've done.
We've gone from soil to cocoa to UH to grow down.
Now we're in the slabs. Now, you know, everything just
kind of gets better. And we're not afraid to try,
you know, we we we run a new strain every time,

(36:08):
we try a different medium every time. I mean, so
you know, we're we're really just learning and learning and learning.
So are you speaking? He brought up at MAT's engines
there here are you guys using different nutrients as well?
Because so we started with UM with heavy sixteen, which
is a great product. But UM but at the time
I don't believe they had a bagged product, so we

(36:29):
were freighting water. So being in the transportation industry, we
realized we were, you know, kind of paying too much
money for a nutrients. I went to a MJ show
and too kind for twenty They had a powdered line.
They said, hey, you're freighting water, which I already knew,
so I went with them. They have a great product,
great support, but UM just thought here recently maybe we

(36:50):
should kind of slim that down a little bit. Went
with ATHENA great product, great support. Those guys have been
wonderful for us, and we're with them now. Um uh
the advanced nutrients. You know, I will definitely look at him.
I I talked to some of those guys, and they
look like they've got a great program. You know. I
think I I you at one point in my life,
you know, I was growing and I couldn't do it

(37:13):
right I I could do it, but I couldn't stay
in the in the room, meaning like you know, it's
a it's a job in itself, just being in that
room all day and and and loving those plants, you know.
And I'm too much of a personality that I want
to move around, you know. And I'm like, I gotta
get outside and do this my brother. And it's funny
because you guys are brothers. It reminds me a lot
of my dynamic right is. And I'm I'm the son

(37:36):
you know of of you know, a man very very
similar to me. Dude. It's like, you know, we have
we have a lot of close ties. I'm sure we
know people and needles and and everything else, but you know,
It's just interesting because again I was in this, the
growing thing, and then it wasn't for me, you know.
But but my brother ends up, you know, and I was,
I was selling weed. I was involved in it, but

(37:58):
my brother wasn't really that much and that, but he
got way more involved, but my dad was. And then
all of a sudden, my brothers now on the weeds
and I don't even touch the plan anymore, you know.
But it's just it's funny how it works out. But
I think you guys are on a great path to
to to getting into more stores, finding out the right
operators that you can really deal with, aligning with the
right people, being able to actually get your product out.

(38:18):
And because you guys are in a unique city, you
have the probably the lowest rent ever or at least
on the building right, so you have edge as a
competitive edge that a lot of people don't. The market
is riggety right now. I think a lot of people
don't know that, you know, the outside if you're not
really on the inner circle. For us, it's echoing in

(38:40):
the room, like what what's going on? I have no
fear and this plant is not going anywhere. And as
long as you stay in that craft. Like you guys
hit that right on the nose, right, Stay on that craft,
stay home, base, buckled down for a little bit. It's
gonna go do it'll rise back up and everybody will
be in a very comfortable place. Again. You guys got fired.

(39:02):
This is gas right here. It's it's good quality and
and you guys are a good families. So it's just
the stay on the path, you know. I tell people
stay in the past, down the paths, in the path,
because the moment you look off the path, you crash.
You know, if you look too far over here, guess
what you're over there? You know, Just stay on the path.
Just start delivering more milk with your cannabis. Put the

(39:23):
milk on the shelf with the cannay some ice cream.
I don't know. I don't know if kell cannabis and
like them. But maybe someday I wish you guys would
have brought us him here. We have a kitchen, guys,
you know what I mean. We talked about who we're
gonna do that. We're gonna do a marbecue down here.
I'm gonna bring some steaks down maybe tomahawk cream. Yeah,
oh please, I just talked about it the other day

(39:44):
on the show. I've been having a root or float
kick every night. Dame Oh, I love me my vanilla
being ice cream in a little the little swamp mall.
Can this for Grandpa? Is every every day can be Christmas?
You know every day is not? Can I do a
quick shout out my daughter? My two daughters are are
starting to help us out in the industry to Carly

(40:05):
and Taylor and h Taylor's here in town. I'm gonna
start helping Nate with merchandising and p d s and
things like that. My other daughters helping do more Internet
Instagram type of things. They're sweet, congratulations and real family business.
That's that's the way it should be. And now the
girls get to hear Dad do the high five. We're
gonna do the high five with you guys. We're gonna
start from the oldest to the youngest. So we'll start

(40:27):
with you over there in the corner and we'll bring
it on down. Okay, same question. I'm sure it'll be
some different answers. Question number one, how old you the
first time you use cannabis? And where did you get
it from? Me and my buddies stole a a fan
leaf from his mother when we were twelve years old
and thought we got high. Yes, wow, what a great

(40:49):
one off the family. But you thought you did. You
thought you were high as you just rolled that up
or just smoked it in the can? How did you do?
I don't know, just coughed our way through it, remember,
probably still went exactly. Remember that they were old. They
were all hippie bikers and they used to grow and
they're outside at the time I were accounted with that
is that wheat growing in your mom's that we didn't

(41:15):
know that it actually went to bud. We thought you
smoked the leaves. But I'm gonna try this right here,
what about you, David? Uh? First time? Uh god, it
was probably some terrible, dried out Mexican weed from one
of the guys off the local Indian reservation. I think

(41:40):
I think I was. I think it was probably about
fourteen fifteen. I had a buddy that lived down the
street and we uh I think there was a little
local bar that all the uh you know guys hung
out with it. We weren't supposed to be around, and
uh yeah, I think we probably found ourselves in trouble
that Mexican says Amelia. Oh, I was still around. I

(42:01):
think those big old bricks, he's just gonna break it
up and spread it out. Sometimes I'm like, man, I
just want one of those old little ship ball joints
because the diesel smell was the diesel feel on the
bottom of the boat when I got smuggled. Oh, you
never knew, right, yeah, you could never know what's gonna smell, like,
what about you? Well, I think I'm incriminating myself right

(42:23):
now right here. It just did too. Yeah, I don't know.
Did you guys know about that story about them the
first time? So he probably did know. Yeah, I mean,
I believe each other, but I would say I was
probably uh, man, I was probably thirteen years he did,
he did? He had one or two since he's sitting

(42:44):
next to d and h. Yeah, and I was running
around with some friends and dude, they had some large
fee trash. He has trim in their pocket. We smoked out,
uh the sawny water bottle with a tenmailmeter socket and
a rock in it in the desert. Yeah, yeah, in

(43:05):
the sticks. That's the way it's supposed to go down
and needs. Question number two of the high five, what
is your favorite way to use or smoke cannabis. Derek,
I would just say flower. I'm a flower guy. Yeah,
joint with it though, just like a bowl or either way,
as long as it's a good flower. Yeah, so nice
like that. Nab, same, Yeah, I'd like to twist one up.

(43:28):
That's kind of part of the deal. You gotta sit
there and just a ritual chill out and have a
drink and break it up. Old school. I don't use
the cone. I got an old pack of zigzags and
you know, old style do it. Yeah, I can't do
this thing when you got to poke it down in
the cones. What's not all about it? I don't remember
z cannabis has this little grinder thing and you put

(43:49):
the cone in there. I don't know if we have
any more here, but you drop it in and then
you nice that loads it up for you for you.
Pretty interesting go ahead. I could just twist them though, Nate.
I would say, I mean I dabbled in like a
couple of different ways, but um, you know I've done
you know I've dabbed, you know. Throughout college I always
went through a little phase where I was trying to
concentrates batters shatter all of it. But you know, I'm

(44:11):
straight up a pre roll guy. You know, I like
popping out a tube, binges, walking down the stair ymple,
you know. I mean it's already done for you. Yeah,
I can care less about the four ft you know,
bong hits. You know, they're fun every once in a while,
but you know, it's always nice to you know, have
a little pret well, and it's hard to do that
your favorite should Yeah, I know, I already went through

(44:35):
that phase of college. Man, I'm burnt out on that. Like,
I know how to do this, I've seen it. I'm
doing it this weekend. Call me Frank the tank. Once
it touches the lips, I can't stop for three of
the high fire with the Governor's cut family over here.
Craziest place you ever use cannabis or smoke too. Oh boy,
that's a tough one. Uh. I got a crazy buddy

(44:56):
that lit up a pipe in the back of math
class or freshman year, sitting next to him, and and
luckily I went to the bathroom while he got suspended.
So that, uh, that's crazy. You thought of the exit?
Now this idiot stage half tract it right in the
back of the classroom like and he went down. So yeah,
of course, but the classrooms pretty f and crazy. Yeah,

(45:20):
that's pretty stupid. I think I think I outside of
the auto shop class, I think I smoked a little
rip once, you know, um, because my auto class teacher
was smoker, and he would step out and smoke, and
I think he was on the other side smoking and
then my advisor like, joe what do you smoke? Like, dude,

(45:41):
I'm the HP president. Shut up. Literally, I can't be
doing this, Joey, because you're the president. I'm like, you
know who my family is, Like, you know what I'm
about my brother with the prison for selling dope when
I was tanned. Give me a break. I ain't slaying
slaying a coke Here, go ahead, Dave. What about you? Yeah,
I don't know. I've had a lot of problem a
crazy different place. But you know, with the new vape pins,

(46:04):
you know, it's it's almost like you can't even hardly
smell and you can do it anywhere. You can do
it anywhere doctor's office. For I was at a I
think we read a a class reunion a while back,
and uh, we're standing there in a in a casino,
right there just playing slot machines and my buddy's handing
it to me, and I'm like, you know, what the
hell is this? You know, we're sitting here puffing in

(46:25):
the middle of the casino. It's kind of like this
kind of feels odd. Man. I don't know if we
should be doing this, but it's kind of like, yeah,
it's it's kind of a good time. It's dimetime. You know,
it used to be you had to find someplace where
you know, for the next thirty minutes you were stinking high. Hell.
You know, you walked back into like you said in
the auto shop class after going to you're going to

(46:45):
lunch and you're in the back of your car jacket
A buddies are going your yelo exactly what the matter?
Gotta get it was going to Jesus christ Man, you
out of your what about you? So I would say

(47:07):
when I was going to college, you know, there was
a couple of years ago when it was only medicinal,
it was only a medical market, so I had a
you know, a medical card. So I was, you know,
one of you guys to actually build a you know,
purchase you know, cannabis legally, and you know, you obviously
can't smoke on camp is at a s U. But
you know, when I was staying in the dorms um,

(47:28):
we were trying to figure out a way to you know,
smoke a joint. So me and my my roommate and
my two sweet mates, we had like a jack and
jail like bathroom. So we would lock it, turn on
the shower, and get the little toilet paper to with
with a filter, and we would burn it up, man,
and just break up the whole, just the whole. Everybody.

(47:49):
Everybody knew my dorm room. Man, Yeah, there's yeah. So
were they not really enforcing a lot of stuff at
this campus or oh no, they're hardcore. I mean Arizona
alone is a no tolerant state, you know when it
at that time? So what's it called the narc that's
on your floor? What do they call that? Man? That

(48:10):
the r A? Yeah, man, like shut up. No, the
r A was cool. It was like the main building,
like supervisor. She was not a fan of me. Yeah yeah, no,
my r A. Like I was actually like giving her
joints and good. Yeah I greased her up. Yeah we're good,
Like just take care of you, thank you. Yeah. Question

(48:32):
number four the high five. What is your go to
Muncie after you get high Derek? Cheetos, No, no, no
flame and none of those players just straight up cheetos, Cheetos.
I want to lick my fingers now, you said, yeah, David, Yeah,
probably big Bull of ice cream. I'm gonna say, uh,
you know, I'm well, you know, Ben and Jerry's just

(48:52):
hard to be you know. Some uh, I don't know.
Some meant chip, I'm pretty hot. You don't do half baked? Yeah,
half bakes pretty good. Yeah, I like that. Pralis and
creams sometimes go ahead. Now nothing nothing would be a
double double animal style from in and out. That's a
go to, and that's always a go to. But um,

(49:13):
definitely uh, you know, for a little snack munchy, a
payday or some thrifties. Mention Chip is my favorite, hands
down candy bar in the world. Yeah, pat is always
a good one. Like if if somebody has one, I'm down.
Oh yeah, and then you're already caughton out and then
you get even more cought out. It's actually talty, you right,
It makes it makes me want to have one right now.

(49:35):
So good to have you guys with this. You guys
question number five with the high five. If you could
smoke cannabis with anyone, yeah, more live, who would it be?
And why? Oh man, that's a that's a real tough one.
I would say my my grandfather. And why because that generation,
you know, they were just the greatest generation. He was

(49:56):
a World War two of you would giem a guy
just humble as act, just worked and worked and working,
and they couldn't even imagine, you know, the benefits of marijuana.
It was an evil thing. So you know, maybe it
would have been good if he could have relaxed later
on the life, you know, those demons and things he had,
you know, So so I like that good one right there.
What about you, David cad I'm heading I'm I'm I'm

(50:19):
stumped on this one. That could be a lot of answers.
You know, somebody famous possibly, you know, maybe like uh,
you know Jack Black or somebody like that. He's pretty cool.
I like that guy, you know, he's just always like
Jack Black. You've got funny you know. If you want
to let the tenacious demon, I love that, just amazing,
you know. I think he'd be cool to sit there

(50:40):
and burn a fatty with and just shoot the Ship wrote,
no one said Jack Black yet, I don't think I've
never heard Jack Black here on the show Ladies and
Gentlemen Jack Black, and he's like, I think a stoner too.
I don't know, but I feel like he should be sure,

(51:02):
like he's not out there at all, but like he's
closet with it. I'm sure, but he just seems like
the cool and he has had no real big drama
from his life. It's just cool. Cat. I like, I
like that call because he reminds me of somebody that
would be a smoker. What about you, nick man, I
gotta say Pineapple Express right up? Seth, James Franco. I

(51:25):
mean that would be at all time smoke sEH right there.
I mean he has his big brand as well, and
that's he created looks awesome. I'm a fan of everything
he's done. Actually, And I just watched that movie the
other night, I think was on T and T, and
I was like, oh, let me watch this for a movie.
Look how young you looks. Yeah, I can't get enough
of it. Man, you're gonna watch it on repeats, so
it really And then I really watched another one when

(51:45):
he got Old Girl Pregnant whatever one. Uh, we Knocked Up,
Thank you Knocked Up. I was watching Knocked Up as
well with him because Seth Rogan was on. I was like,
oh my god, look how young Seth Rogan is on
this one too. Actually, randomly of caught to Seth Rogan.
You know, in the middle of the movies. They didn't
just start and I put them on, but I was like, oh, ship,
I went to T and T to see if there's
a basketball game on and it was no game on
and boom just got stuck on the Seth Rogan movies.

(52:08):
Good dudes, Well, guys, you know Governors Cut craft Cannabis.
If you go to a dispenser and are looking for
some quality craft cannabis, asked them to carry the Governor's Cuts.

guys want to throw out there before we let you

(52:53):
bud tender and say, hey, man, where's where's the Governor's cut?
Because uh, you know, Nate's out there nailing it every
you know, just knocking on doors, meeting people and uh,
you know, we're we're fighting for for shelf space out there,
and we you know, we so appreciate the you know,
the platform you guys have given us here today to
to get the word out because it it is um.

(53:13):
You know, it's tough. We're trying to get out there
as much as we can, but you know, we're we're
trying to do this on our own. You know, we
don't have the huge marketing budgets that some of the
big box brands have, so um, this is this is
priceless for us. We really appreciate the family thing. To man,
I said, I like you and I do you have
anything just that just so that people that try our

(53:35):
products know that we're always We're always expanding our lines.
We're always doing things better. We're always just trying to
get more turping profiles and those things that really make
good cannabis, not just the high THC which we also have.
And uh, you know, we're always gonna be out there
on the cutting edge. Yeah it is. And I want
to say thank you, you know, Blue and Joe for

you're always a good You're always an asset there you
bring to the party. It's good to have you at

(54:16):

to Bear the guys over at Bear Flag. They're they're great.
We we teamed up with them and they've definitely made
the journey. They're much smoother and Albert over there is
phenomenal man. Yeah, their whole team is is class act.
Like I said, you got to find those great operators.
And and I can tell you guys, just have you

(54:38):
cut from a certain thought. You know there it's and
it's not. It's not always seen in our industry. A
lot of people are fasterod coming in. They just want
to you know, wine and dine and get out. You know,
they're again, or they use another people of money just
to this. It takes a real individual to build a
legacy to your family. It's not a it's not a
it's never a uh you know what they call it,

(54:59):
you know the flash. It doesn't happen that fast unless
need a lotto and a lot of lucky you know.
So it takes time to build this though. We appreciate
you guys on the show. Guys it's Cannabis Talk one
