Speaker 1 (00:07):
Hi everyone, I'm Rachel Zoe and you're listening to Climbing
in Heels for your weekly dose of glamour, inspiration and
of course fun. I've had quite the busy summer so far,
filled with the most amazing women in my life, and
I recently attended an event that I wanted to talk
about on the pod today. The annual G nine Summit,
(00:29):
started by Amy Griffin and Anna Dherty took place a
few weeks ago, and it was such an incredible experience.
I left there beaming, and I just wanted to share
it with all of you. I know I'm not the
only one to be totally obsessed with the Olympics right now,
so I also wanted to chat about Selene Simone and
(00:49):
everything in between. Joining me today is my producer who
we all know and love, Mary Elizabeth, So let's jump
right into it.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Of exciting things happening for women this summer.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Yeah, I wanted to talk to you.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
I know that you've been sharing a lot of Olympic
highlights on your social which has been so exciting, not
only as the Olympics in your all time favorite city
of all time in Paris, but some of our favorite
female athletes have just been absolutely crushing it.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
I mean, like I'm an Olympics nerd. I should really
say I'm a gymnastics nerd. Yeah, like I am a
real gymnastics nerd.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
Like men and women's. I can't, I literally cannot stop
watching it.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
It's very entertaining and I want to jump into that
and we definitely definitely will. But in your neck of
the woods, you're still out in the Hampton's living your
best summer life. I wanted you to talk today a
little bit to our followers about the G nine summit
that you attended in the Hamptons. Tell us what it's about,
(01:57):
who goes, because I feel like, you know, Insider Baseball
or whatever I've read about You've attended this summit for
many years now, but I feel like this year, for
whatever reason, it was all over the place, like everyone
was posting and it was just like, yeah, felt really
more like a cultural moment this year. Yeah, So I
(02:18):
wanted you to talk a little bit about Amy and
talk a little bit about what G nine does because it's,
you know, the ethos of climbing and hills, right, yeah,
exactly exactly.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
We should have them on here. Actually, Amy and.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Her partner, Amy Griffin and Anna Dherty are the founders
and partners of G nine Ventures and they basically have
a fund that they support brands and they have quite
the portfolio of brands, everything from wellness brands to baby
formula to Proens and like Westminitilia makeup. I mean, they
(02:57):
have their hands in a lot of different things. And
I believe all female, if not mostly, but I'm pretty
sure it's all female. And they started this summit. I
think this is your four, it's your three or four.
And then there was just under two hundred people there.
It is a very tight list. They have all of
(03:19):
the product on hand. They're not all but some that
like you know, they serve chroma beverages, they serve the
protein powders from a brand. They have an entire like
bookwall of all the women there that have done books.
They have you know, tremendous speakers. They have these great
panels of different things. This year it was the founder
(03:42):
the first woe was the founder of kitsch. You know
that k I like hyphen T C H. I want
to say it is, yeah, and it's basically you know,
we had the founder on they had the founder on
the panel and Amy interviewed her and she was very impressive,
and basically it was just sort of like, no, it's
not an option.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
This was like her sixteenth idea, right wow.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
And I think what's cool about G nine is it
really it's a little bit like climbing in heels in
the ethos of it, meaning like it's a forum for
women to be like free and open about highs and
lows and what they perceive as having failed and then
talking about failing and how that got them to where
(04:27):
they are now. Right, So there's like this Spinx founder,
there's like.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
On Larah Lake.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah, Sarah Lay's always there, Reese is always there.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Reese Witherspoon is always.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
There, and she did a panel, and Candice Nelson is
always there, founder of Sprinkles and Pizzana and also on
Shark Tank, and you know.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
The list goes on.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
I mean I looked around the room and I definitely
knew I would say at least one twenty of the
one to eighty. You know, Gwyneth was there for Goop
and you know, so it's been a very female led summer.
I've been to an Aveline dinner organic wine that I'm
an investor in and is Cameron Diaz and Catherine Power
(05:11):
the founders, And they did a beautiful dinner again all female.
Gwyneth did a beautiful dinner all female. And you know,
I feel like in these moments it's really beautiful because
I think everyone feels safe and we talked freely about
maybe something we're coming off of, something we're entering into,
(05:32):
and I think like everyone is slightly more vulnerable. I
think in a room filled with women where they don't
feel like they're being judged by men.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Yeah, yeah, sure?
Speaker 2 (05:44):
And is it so is it set up like a
marketplace and there's panels like is yes?
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Yeah? So you see you're setup in it's like.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Chroma has a booth or like or like how is it?
How do they product?
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (05:57):
It's very subtle actually, like there's a little like Kiosk
with Bobby Brown stuff right, not Bobby Brown.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Jon's Road, John's Road, Bobby's second one, and Bobby was there.
She spoke last year and she was probably one of
my favorite speakers to date.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
Well that's good, and they always podcast.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
She's fantastic. She's fantastic. I cannot wait to have her.
She is such a good interview. She keeps it very real.
And then like SPANX always has like a moment and
then the book will and then as far as like
Chroma and some of the other like teas or.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
Products, that's just like what's served at.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Like break time, okay, you know, like like get a macha,
get a smoothie, get like a you know whatever protein bar.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
It's like it's very like product focused.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
And then at one they do a big gorgeous lunch
catered by Spring Cafe. As been the founder of Spring
Cafe and Aspin who amazing.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
It's brilliant. It's kind of like air one, you know,
yeah for.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Sure, And how does one get on this list?
Speaker 1 (07:02):
You know, I think you have to be invited. You
have to, I guess apply. They are always sold out
with a wait list. Sure, and they're fantastic. I mean,
it's it's really just great women. This year they had
three powerhouse doctors like endocrine metabolic talking about all the
(07:26):
gop ones like the mantro and the zepis and how
everyone's sort of waiting for the ball to drop like
it's a fan out. It's like going to kill us,
and they just keep finding more benefits.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
That's good. That's good to hear.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Yeah, for hormone is shoes cancer prevention and it goes on.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Yeah, it's wild, It's super wild.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
So I wonder if they would ever at some point
sell like access to its streaming because I was like,
I would like love to be a fly on the wall. Yeah,
you know, or does it feel very like.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
No, I mean, it does feel very intimate. And my
guess is that they probably have thought about that and
aren't doing it for a reason. Yeah, but maybe they're
just not there yet, you know what I mean. Maybe
they want to keep it tight for now.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
But I mean to be in with the amount of
like celebrities, let's be honest that are in that room totally,
that's a lot of releases and.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Totally, but I will say it is.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
But I will say that, like, you know, the celebrities
are like in audience and like can ask questions, don't
have to, but like some people may not even see them,
you know what I mean. But it is very like
it feels very private. You know, it does feel very private,
and I imagine if she opened it up, celebrities may
(08:53):
not attend anymore, I guess, I mean.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
That's my guess.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
I don't know, but you know those the women that
are there are there as like authors, founders, CEOs, like
you know, they're there because of business.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
They're not there because they're actors.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
You know.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
Oh no, no, yeah, the opposite. So it's interesting.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
That's amazing. Well, what do you think is the biggest
takeaway for you this year? Because I know this is
like the fourth or fifth here you've been.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
Yeah, I mean I think, you know, there was I
think listening to the female doctors and having three badass
doctors up there in a forum where everyone had so
many questions because there's such a gender gap in medicine
with male and female, and I think having these women
up there sort of championing, like when there's things wrong
(09:40):
with us, it's sort of like we get shoot away
so much. Oh you're fine, you're just complaining, or you're
just this, or you're just that.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
And I think these women are catalysts for change.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
And see hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of women with
endocrine iss shoes and permonal she's and I think everyone
in the room was like, wait, I have that. Wait,
maybe that's what's wrong with me, you know. So I
think that was super interesting you know, Yeah, that's amazing.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
That's ever changing.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
How is How's Kennas Nelson. She's a friend.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Who's the best, She's the best. She's just the happiest, smileiest.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
Yeah. How many pisanas does she have?
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Now?
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Like so many?
Speaker 4 (10:25):
No, but she's just you know, she's crushing it.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
She's so She also just has the best attitude and
she like loves to learn, and you know, I just
always love seeing her.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
She's like a ray of sunshine.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
I love it. I love it well. I love the genie.
I think it's the coolest thing ever.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
I hope they keep posting about it and creating content
from it for all the ladies who can't attend because
it's toally. It's really amazing, and it's really you know,
I think from an outsider point of view, it's like
you wouldn't necessarily expect all of these women, most of
them with some sort of inner background, right, let's say,
(11:02):
be in the same room, like celebrating each other. It's like, yeah,
everything we're told about that isn't is a lie. Like
women are competitive, women, women don't support other women. Women,
you know, women are petty, women don't want to you know,
women are jealous and all of that, and that's just
so not the case when totally you have all of
(11:23):
these amazing powerhouse women who have created their own businesses
in the same room together, sharing information, sharing stories.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
It's like, you know, it's amazing.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
The media tells you one thing and then I love
that this sort of sense.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Yes, And I also think they're trying to change that
narrative totally. You know, I think that's a big part
of this is they're trying to really shift that, you know,
that conversation and have women which is why we do
climbing and heels exactly, you know the same thing. It's
just sort of like, yeah, I wasn't supported by women,
(11:58):
but like, why does that have to be the way
it is?
Speaker 4 (12:00):
Why can't I change that?
Speaker 2 (12:02):
We can, we can do something to change it, at least,
you know, love it well talking about more iconic amazing
women Celine Dion and the opening ceremonies.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
I cried.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
I think the Globe cried. I mean, how incredible was that?
That was like next level? That was like one minute
we're like sobbing over her. Frozen something disease for.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
Stiff's person syndrome stiff person syndrome. Yeah, and the next thing,
you know, she's literally belting as if she never stopped singing.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
It's over Paris ritible. That was unreal and it's like unreal,
and it's she's on the Eiffel Tower. It's like raining sideways.
It's like just her and a piano. It's like the
most powerful literally imagery, and it's it's wild, insane.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
And I think she was wearing doer she was.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
I was gonna say, did you see the original content
theories about her fittings and putting the gown together? And
I mean you know that she looked any awless the
amount of man hours in those beating and I mean,
it's just it's insane.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
So now I'm so happy.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
I mean, she's just like a force and to be
able to sing and like, I don't even know how
she was able to withstand the like emotion of that moment.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Yeah, yeah, she stayed pretty strong.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
I mean I feel like she she is one of
those like classic divas that like has another gear that
can like go into like full performance mode.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Speaking of that, Simone Biles, I mean, let's talk about
a gear.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
I mean all of them. I mean Sidney.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
All of them have been incredible, incredible over it. They're
literally they're literally creating new names for gymnastic news because
no one's been able to be able to do this before.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
I know, it's insane. I know it's it's insane. I know,
and I loved.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
I don't know, if you saw the footage yesterday, you
got to see the footage of the Brazilian gymnast Rebecca Androgy. Yeah,
and she got to win the floor and then Simon
and it was just there.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Bowing to her.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
It was the greatest it really, she was incredible.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
And then that girl on the beam, I forget where
she forget what country she was from.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
There was someone on.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Bars that I like woke up to geeking out to
this morning that I just can't even believe what they do.
They're like outdoing themselves. I know, they're just they're beating themselves.
It's crazy wild, it's really really.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
It's like nothing I've ever seen. It's very crazy.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
And then you know Katie Ledecki, who is our US swimmer,
is just like crushing it.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
She's like.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Helps she's the fifth most decorated Olympian of all time.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
Now, oh my god, Michael justin swimming.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Still had like of all Olympians, I'm pretty sure wild yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Of all time. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
And Michael Phelps is the number one most decorated Olympian.
He has like twenty four medals, twenty three of them
were gold. It's like insane, but I just love that
Katie the Decky is like definitely gaining on him, and.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Like it's right.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Did you see when she won like one of her
freestyle races. There wasn't like she won by like ten seconds,
Like there wasn't even anybody in the frame. There was
no one in the shot like the above shot for
the end there was. She was the only one it was.
It's just like incredible. I mean, I'm such an Olympics nerd.
Have you been watching any of the Snoop Dogg and
(15:44):
Martha Stewart.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Not much like little glimmers of it.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
I think for overall, First of all, I think NBC
has done an amazing job with the coverage this year.
I think they've made it really fun and they've made
it really easy to watch and digestible, and just the
way that they've laid out all the events to watch. Totally,
I feel like Snoop Dogg needs an honorary gold medal
after this.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
That man is like it's just.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Like doing it in Paris, Like it's just it's never
going to be better than this.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
It's it's amazing.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
It's amazing, like literally but Snoop Dogg reach. He goes
from like studio interviews, like talking, and then he's like
over at equestrian and they bring him over to swimming
and then he's like sitting in gymata. I mean he's
like running.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
I've seen him like rowling in the cars. I've seen
him in the cars. It's really funny.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
It's just the funniest thing. And he's like become America's mascot.
Who would have It's also like the irony of it.
It's really it's the funniest thing.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
It is funny.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Think Okay, I don't know if you've seen any of
the equestrian that's going on.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
It's happening at Versailles.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
You need I just see a little bit of that.
I did see a little bit of that, but not enough.
I probably need to watch more.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Yeah, So I would say if you are looking to
watch watch equestrian.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
It's generally sticks officially over.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
I think it's done. Okay, Yeah, I think it's done.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Done.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Maybe the men still have to compete, but I.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Think the women's teams are done and the individuals are done. Okay,
Because when I watched Simone's floor routine yesterday that I remember,
the commentator was like, this is her last Olympic appearance, right,
but yeah, you should definitely watch equestrian in the gardens
of Versailles.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
It's like insane. And then another like.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Buzzworthy favorite is the beach volleyball is literally.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
I've been watching the I talked about that for a second.
I'm not happy about them being in bikinis.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
I know, I mean I would, I would guess it's
their choice, like it's what they feel more comfortable playing in.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
I just feel like I just feel like there has
to be an even playing field there, Like I feel
like if one team is wearing like shorts or like
leggings and a and a sports top, like, yeah, I
guess that's what everybody should be in.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (18:04):
Like, I don't know, I.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Just it feels to me a little like goes a
bit Baywatch with like the bikinis in the Olympic arena,
like there's something that feels a little bear to me.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Sure, yeah, do you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Like, it just feels a little like, why do we
have to give people something to look at in that
way while they're doing a sport.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
I don't know. Maybe that's like weird of me.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
No, I think that's I think probably some people feel
that way.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
I think it's pretty I think it's been pretty controversial.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Yeah, I mean I think that, but I think it
is the athlete's choice, right, Maybe.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Don't have to wear it, to be honest, I really,
I really don't know. I think all the athletes on
each team are wearing the same thing, right, whether it's
bikini or like or pant or like ends. Yeah, yeah,
we skipped over this, but what did you think of
the Rolph Lauren opening ceremony outfits?
Speaker 3 (18:59):
Did you see them?
Speaker 1 (19:00):
I didn't see enough of them, honestly because of watching
them like it.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
They also were covered in ponchos because it was pouring rain.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Right, Oh wait, I do remember that. I didn't really
see enough of them.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
But I mean they put them in denim and a
button down and like a navy blazer.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
I think like the overall tone of Ralph has been nice,
meaning like it's very American and I feel like, you know,
the colors are are the same as the French flag.
But I think overall, like Kendall Jenner and like the
people that have been wearing Ralph, I think have looked
really on point, you know.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
I think it's been.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
It's felt very casual but chic and like just very appropriate.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
You know. I don't think anyone has looked like they
tried too hard, you.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
Know, right, And there's been like, yeah, like you mentioned Kendall,
there's been like a lot of good celebrity sightings and
fashion like Nicole Kidman was there with her thoughts and yeah,
and she looked really beautiful. And even Mendez was there
with Ryan Gosling a Mendez.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Yeah, they were there.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
They actually were there with their two little girls, which
they keep very private.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
So I was con strucked.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
I don't even think I've ever seen what they look like. Yeah,
but it was it's I mean, it's very exciting. So
now the question is do you think Los Angeles is
going to be ready for twenty twenty eight.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
I think Los Angeles will be ready, but I think
we have to be very realistic and the fact we
don't have an Eiffel Tower. No, I don't have a Verse.
I sure don't have nothing like it. And I think
we just have to know that. Like it's like how
you can't make New York LA. You can't make La
New York. You have to just say this is Paris
and it is what it is.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
That.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Yeah, that's sort of my.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
My hope is that we get LAX sorted out before.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Before they gass they gassen, You're alway out of LA
by the time the Olympics come.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
Yeah, I think we should go into hiding in the
summer of twenty twenty eight.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
There's also a.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Very fun rumor online that to kick off or to
close the ceremonies in Paris, it's going to involve a
stunt by Tom Cruise.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
Who has been at the Olympics the whole.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Time, who is apparently going to take the Olympic flag
and then they're going to cut to a pre shot
stunt in LA of him, like like skydiving onto the
Hollywood Sign or something with the Olympics.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
I mean, pretty cool anxiety attack, Yes, I mean it
would be amazing.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
There's nothing more LA than to have our like one
of the biggest movie stars of all time. Actually, so
true a stunt like that, Okay, Yeah, it's amazing, so funny,
so funny. So lots of big things happening for women
this summer. I'm so excited for some of our guests
we have coming up on Climbing in Heels. I don't
want to spill the beans, but we kind of already
(21:59):
did today.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
But we have some really really.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Exciting guests coming up, which I'm very very excited about.
I wanted to ask you two quick questions, if that's
okay that we're coming into Climbing in Heels pod this week.
One question was, what have you been wearing on repeat
the most this summer.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
I've been dressing up so much because I've had like
twenty events since I've been here.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
You've been going on.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
I find that I am wearing.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
A lot of Oscar da loa Reenta night, I'm wearing
a lot a lot of different, a lot of Joanna Ortiz,
and then like a lot of like Etra sort of
throw on klftans per day. It's been incredibly hot here,
so we've been I've been wearing just like literally like
a slip of a kaftan because it's so hot, humid
(22:49):
and hot and like thick air and yuck, and now
we're getting like hurricane weather.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
It's gross.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
God.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
So it's starting earlier and earlier. Yeah, I swear it
used to August, you know.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
Change. It's spooky, okay.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
And the other question we got was, oh, what are
your thoughts on the jelly sandal trend?
Speaker 4 (23:11):
Jelly sandal trend.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
I mean, so the rope put out those like little
slide on jelly sandals, and I feel like now it's everywhere.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
Yeah, I mean I think if when the rogue kicks
something off, everyone sort of follows suit, and everyone's been
in those like Sparkly mumew Eliyah flats, the little like
Meshy Mary Jane kind of flats, and I think this
will probably be just as big, but it's more seasonalso
(23:45):
where you I mean kind of.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
So do you think I should buy a pair of
Mary Jane's for the fall? Mary Elizabeth and Mary Jane.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
I should buy Mary Janes. I mean I do, because
you wear flats every day?
Speaker 3 (23:56):
I do, well, yeah, I do.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
I don't ever wear heunless it's a boot.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
Or you're going out or I'm going out.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Yeah, you're right, you're right.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Okay, well, thank you for answering those questions, thank you
for shing up with us today, and you'll be back
