The College Football Apostles are back! George Wrighster and Ralph Amsden took a two week hiatus to cover their respective teams in person- and now that Oregon and Arizona State have earned their place in the College Football Playoff, the guys are back to preview and predict the first round of the bracket!
George is sticking by his preseason prediction of Oregon vs Notre Dame in the National Championship, and Ralph agrees on Oregon, but thinks it'll be Notre Dame's first round opponent that finds a way to make the final game.
North Carolina shook up the college football world by bringing the greatest NFL coach of all time into the fold- how will Bill Belichick fare in Chapel Hill, and why does Ralph think the Herm Edwards comparisons are unfair?
Finally- George talks about the madness of the Transfer Portal, and has a message for its biggest beneficiary- Ole Miss Head Coach Lane Kiffin.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
I'm George Reister, He's Ralph Amsden, and this is the
College Football Apostles presented by the Unterfraided Show. And we
thank you for your time, but thank you for your energy.
You guys, make sure that you like, subscribe, get notifications
and tell a friend about the Unafraided Show. So much
great college football content and other content coming in twenty

(00:21):
twenty five. We are here. It is the college football Playoffs.
The field is set, people are mad, and you know what,
they'll get over it, just like they got over Florida
State last year. But that's where we will start, because
we got to talk about the playoffs. We got to
talk about the transfer portal and how that's filling up
even with people going in the playoffs, and Kenny Dillingham

(00:44):
is doing something really good as it relates to that end.
We got Mac Brown out, Bill Belichick in. But we'll
start with the college Football Playoff participants. Ralph, there's been
so much crying about the bracket. The bracket hard road
for Oregon. I don't think they really care about Oregon.
I don't I think that they want something to cry

(01:06):
about about this bracket. Because if this was Georgia or
you know, or Ohio State that had this road, they
would genuinely care and want change. I just don't think
that they really care that it's that it's Oregon because
they're like, oh man, this isn't right for organ I
don't think they really care because it's not like everybody

(01:29):
is even still predicting Oregon to win.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Yeah, I'm here. So here's the difference for me. I
will participate in this whining when it comes to the
college basketball bracket selection because I think your path matters
in the end. They say you're gonna have to beat everybody,
but that's that's not necessarily the case in basketball, where

(01:56):
there's sixty four, seventy two, seventy eight whatever they're trying
to do in the playoffs. In football, the national champion,
I think collectively we all agree is the best team
in the country.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Yes, any given Saturday, Monday nights the hardest.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Give me the hardest road. You gotta win, you got
and you got to prove it against any of these teams.
And I don't I don't care. In a college football playoff,
I don't care if you start versus with one versus two.
It is. It is my belief outside of maybe if
you have a transformational quarterback Cam Newton level quarterback that

(02:37):
for the most part, the best team is going to
win each of these games. So like, as as an
Arizona State alum, you know, we gotta buy and you
think that I'd be celebrating. I don't give me. I
want to play tomorrow. I want to play anybody like
I play Oregon first, even though that's the worst matchup

(02:57):
you could get.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Yeah, Arizona State is hot right now, say like, let
us play football. Please, don't don't give us no time off.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
I think the college I just think as a college
football fan, you gotta you gotta say like, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Thank you give me anybody any woman. That's exactly my
sentiment about it. Who cares? Who cares what your path
looks like? Because styles make fights in one game that's
hard for you.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
You're saying that if if Georgia was in the one spot,
that this would be a lot louder. Yes, that the
number one path is and we always do number one
path is going to be the hardest. We always knew that.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
They keep talking about. Here here's the part that bewilders
me about their whole argument. About Oh, there's Texas and
Ohio Tennessee and Ohio State and then and then you
gotta play the winner and uh, and then you might
have to play Texas, and then you might have to
play Georgia. They gotta play them too, Like they got

(04:04):
to play the number one team in the nation. It's like,
those are the people that should be bothered that they
have to play them. And then the other part is
they if you really think about the core of their argument,
they want to make subjective opinions about teams because of
the logos. They're like, well, Oregon might have to play

(04:27):
Ohio State, the most talented roster in Tennessee, that's where
they landed in the rankings. Like they both have two
losses for a reason. They're not perfect teams, so you
just want to pair them up with SMU because you
believe in your mind that that's an easier matchup. That's

(04:48):
not how this works. Now, I would be in favor
of receding after the first round of the playoffs. That
I'm not upset about, just so just so fun. Yeah,
so the one seed does get to play the lowest
ranked seed. Now, granted it could be a much tougher
matchup because a team could have got in who was

(05:09):
hurt at the beginning of the year, and then they
some kind of way won the conference or something and
ended up in a position like Clemson, and then you
could end up with a very tougher game than what
you thought it was going to be. So I'm in
favor of receding. But in general, man, check ball, line
it up. Don't care if it's in parking lot, don't
care if it's in in a high school stadium. Don't

(05:33):
be scared.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
I'm with you one hundred Now, content brain, if they
wanted to recede and give the College Football Playoff Committee
like an actual hard job to reced this, and they
wanted to put some of those deliberations on television, I
would die, Like that would be the most fun thing
that I can possibly imagine. That would be like Dana

(05:59):
whitebrain or Vince McMahon brain, of like, you want to
grow the game, Let's recede based on the performances of
the opening round of the College Football Playoff, and then
let's let the people on the committee talk about how
they reached their conclusion or and then let's televise it.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
I got a better one I got a better one
after the first round old school backyard draft. So you
let Dan. So you put Dan Lanning on television and
say who do you want next round? Oh my god,
out of the winners.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
And watch him call out Dabbo or something like that.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Will take Penn State again, We'll take Ohio State again,
will take Notre Dame, We'll take Texas, We'll take Clemson,
and then you got Georgia. Come up and be like,
oh yeah, yeah, give us, give us Texas a third time.
Come on, come on, come on.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
You know it'd be funny though. Dan Lannings, like, you know,
you put him in a position to pick and he's like,
we want Georgia and they're like, sir, you can't have
them right now, they're not part of this. And he'd
be like, Georgia, give us Georgia right now, right now,
with this beat up quarterback situation. All right, So are

(07:21):
you ready for like a hypocrisy heel turn on my part.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Okay, I do.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Have a complaint about the way the college football Playoff
is being run.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
It's got to be about the tickets.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
No, no, it's not about the tickets. So and it
doesn't actually even affect me because my team gotta buy,
your team gotta buy. We don't actually get to experience
the the home games of the opening round, right, So
you make the College Football Playoff, you get a home game.
I just read this that Ohio State has to run

(07:59):
this like pretty much a regular home game. However, the
College Football Playoff has mandated that certain aspects of it
be treated like neutral site.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
So yes, they can play. Yet they got to play
the videos for the other team and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Yeah, So here.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Is the thing. Ohio State has one hundred and two
eight hundred and seventy seats in their stadium. Don't ask
me how I know that, And supposedly they allocated thirty
five hundred seats to Tennessee fans.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
I bet those tickets were expensive.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Yeah yeah, and then yeah, and then all the rest
of their fans are going to be off stub Hub
and seat geek and game time and everything else. Nasty work.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
So I guess on the resale market, if Ohio State
fans are paying their twenty twenty five mortgage off of
Tennessee fans trying to get tickets, then yeah, you probably
need to let Tennessee have an intro video.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Yes, exactly. So let's get to the bracket though, so
we have and I went back and forth on my
final bracket a lot. Let's start with the game that
was the most difficult for me out of all of
the games, Texas and Clemson. Everything on paper says that

(09:26):
Texas should win this football game. They got a better defense,
the Texas has better offensive weapons. My issue is is
that Clemson has been there. Dabble's been here in the
playoffs a bunch of times. He knows how to win
in it. He knows how to prepare a team, and

(09:47):
with what two weeks to prepare for a game. I
think it is tough, dude, and quinn ewers ankles not
all the way healthy. Their offense gets staggered at times.
It's it's a recipe for an upset for me. And
then if Clemson wins, I think that Arizona State beats Clemson.

(10:12):
So I did ultimately end up picking Texas and then
Texas to beat Arizona State. But everything, but I have
this burning in my soul about Clemson winning and then
Arizona State beating Clemson.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
So I love the matchup. It's fascinating because people will
see that three losses in front of Clemson, and they're
gonna feel a certain type of way about it. Yeah,
they weren't ready for the season. They weren't. They weren't
ready for that first game against Georgia. It is what
it iss.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Not the same football team now that they came out
with that confidence in Week one.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
No, no, And I don't think Clemson's the same team either.
South Carolina is one of the hottest teams in the country.
South Carolina, if you let them into the College Football Playoff,
might have done some damage. I look at South Carolina
the same way that I do at Arizona State, peaking
at the right time, young quarterback, mobile, a couple of
game changers on the roster, and so yeah, Clemson lost

(11:09):
to South Carolina. Texas might have lost to South Carolina
if they played them at the end of the season.
So I don't look at this as like Texas is
for sure gonna win the game. And I think that Clemson,
better than anyone, will actually be prepared for a guy
like Colin Simmons because they just had to play against
Dillan Stewart. Ye, So you know, I think it could

(11:33):
be close. I love the Cade club. Nick versus quinn
Ewers in this a Texas boy State championship rematch of
when they were in high school. I think I think
Texas is probably the better team. But Clemson has been
tested a little bit more with having to play SMU

(11:54):
in South Carolina at the end of the season than
Texas was all season long. Like, yeah, they had Georgia,
they played well against Georgia, but I, I don't know.
I love the matchup. I think it'll be close. As
a as an as an Arizona State alum follower, I got,
I want Texas like I that's what I want. I

(12:14):
want the what I believe to be the better team.
I want it. I want it to come from the region,
the Arizona State's recruiting. I want the maximum. I want
the maximum value and I and I want it because
if Arizona State beats Clemson, there's still gonna be people
that are like, yeah, well they got lucky because they
got Clemson. Nobody who beats Texas is gonna be called lucky. Nobody.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Oh, if they beat Texas, Kenny dilly Ham might as
well run for mayor in the state. Boy Oh my gosh, but.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Yeah, I'm rooting it. I'm rooting for Texas, but I
do think that Clemson actually has a decent shot at this.
They just took on one of the best run defenses
in America, and and and the past game worked. Kate Klebnik,
he you know he they run game got shut down.
He took care of business.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Yeah, he's getting better. I think he's a dude that
when he comes back next year, he could actually turn
into an NFL prospect.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
So you think he's you think NFL is gonna tell
him you should go back another year, dude.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
The NFL is actually telling everybody not named cam Ward
and shaudor Sanders to go back for another year. So
all of this Carson back to the NFL, quinn Or
is to the NFL. They don't have first round grades.
I don't know why people think otherwise. It's not happening.

(13:36):
This is like that that Kenny Pickett draft. You got one, dude,
maybe two. That's the end of the story. All right.
So then we oh, wait, wait, wait, so who are
you picking Texas or Clemson.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
I'm picking Texas and I'm rooting for Tech. I want Texas.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
Okay, next game, Penn State, SMU, This game people are
oh oh, Penn State such an.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Easy road, dude.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
You got the number one well, now number two run
defense in the entire country. In SMU, Penn State is
run heavy. They came up with a whole new game
plan versus Oregon that they had never done. And now
SMU has seen that on tape and is going to
be prepared for that, for that hurry up like two

(14:31):
plays called in the huddle thing. So unless you got
another trick up your sleeve, of the cats out of
the back like you like, you blew your emergency plan.
And how I know it was an emergency plan and
that they're not used to it is Penn State was
sucking air at the end of the game on offense.

(14:53):
Did you ever see Oregon or any of these other
fast teams in the fourth quarter sucking air? No? No,
they're just out there still. Just let's go, guys, Come on,
They got you tired. So Penn State either has to
get in better condition or get more used to it
to this style of play. I got Penn State in

(15:17):
this game. I think that they are physical, they are tough,
but I'm not discounting SMU, and I do think that
there will be upsets in this tournament. I just don't
think that the upset is gonna happen yet out of
the two games that we have heard of. And uh yeah,

(15:38):
so I'm gonna go with the Penn State Nitney Lions.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
So I'm actually I know this game is is gonna
be in unfriendly confines for SMU. But the last time
that somebody held, like defensively held SMU down back in September,
BYU beat him eighteen to fifteen. Jennings was still kind

(16:06):
of figuring things out. They turned around in the next
eight quarters and scored one hundred and eight points.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
You're not gonna be stop him. Could Penn State's not
gonna be able to stop them from from scoring? No chance?

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Yeah, And I don't think so. And then so, so
this brings me back to this. Clemson held SMU to
seven points in that in that first half of the
ACC Championship. It was the first time that we had
seen somebody kind of steiny SMU defensively. And they came
out after halftime and they dropped twenty four and almost

(16:42):
won this game.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
Yeah, they were like and so and the worst thing
that happened to Penn State is that SMU got to
play it a big game like a because all season
people have been ignoring SMU like you hadn't been paying
attention to games a lot, But now you better pay

(17:03):
attention because they've been on the stage day. They had
a half where they were deer in headlights, and now
it could be a problem. But I'm taking Penn State.
Who you got, I'm taking SMU.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
And Scott Simmons just signed that new contract to be
their defensive coordinator even though people want him to come
be a head coach. That's a serious series football coach.
I think he earns this money with one of the
bigger upsets of the season, SMU taking down Penn State
on the road.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
All right, so let's go to the next game, Notre
Dame at Well Indiana at Notre Dame. This is the
highest price ticket in all of the college football playoffs
in Indiana. Battle. Dude. It's so funny because I'm saying

(17:54):
that I'm not discounting these teams, and I think Indiana
made a great move. They did not like did you
notice how quiet they were on social media and everything
after their regular season was over with. They were like,
don't talk about us, don't talk about us, like sh

(18:16):
and they just quietly crept into the college Football Playoff.
They were like, listen, you bring up any team that
you choose to, just don't bring up our name. And
now they are in and I don't believe that they
I believe that they can beat Notre Dame. But I
got Notre Dame going to the College Football Playoff Championship,

(18:36):
and I had that at the beginning of the season,
and I don't end from my opinions in the beginning,
especially when I got a lot of data to reinforce it.
So I'm going to take Notre Dame Marcus Freeman because
remember after that NIU lost, I was like, oh damn,
is he gonna make it through the season, And yep,
he's gonna make it through the season, no problem. He'll

(18:57):
be there next year unless he takes the Bears head
coach a job.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
Can you I just want to get inside the head
of some Notre Dame fans who were in the darkest
place imaginable just after Lucy and it's and it's also
like the third time in three years that they have
been just as mad as you can be at a
coach and here they are and it's not like their

(19:25):
schedule was easy. No, and they they to me embarrassed
usc they I mean, you might as well call them
anti America for what they did to the military academies
and having some of the best years of the last
few decades, and went in there and stumped them both out.

(19:47):
Made Navy fumble seven times. Yeah, it's insane, Like Army
is sitting here at what uh eleven and one about
to play this weekend to go twelve and one, and
nobody takes the best Army team in forever seriously because

(20:07):
of what Notre Dame did to them, And so if
they're on a fire.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
Victory, they would have been much much higher.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
Yeah, but so I don't know, I have a lot
of respect for this Notre Dame team. They're good against
the run. That's the one thing that people don't talk about.
This Indiana team can really run the ball. You know.
Their defense. Indians defensive coordinators up for the Broyles Award,
Kurt Signetti just won Coach of the Year nationally. They

(20:39):
get an opportunity to go out and prove it and
it's like an it's an intra Indiana game, which I
don't know how often this game has been played but
you have to imagine it's gonna get heated. I'm gonna
go with Indiana, and it's for no other reason than
I want to see Kurt Signetti prove this award that

(21:01):
he just wants, like I would love to see him
prove it. And I don't think that that lost to
Ohio State was what a lot of people think. It is.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
That like people got caught up in the score. They
didn't pay attention to the game. This was lost on
special teams and Indiana deer in headlights. Just like s MU.
They'll be better, they will be better, much more competitive.
All right, Oh my god, this is the game that
Oregon should be afraid of Ohio State versus Tennessee. Oh

(21:35):
my god, I can't believe it. Oh they have to
be so afraid. Oh my god, Oregon they're afraid to
play Ohio State again. And they definitely don't want to
play tennis in Tennessee. Oh my god. These two loss
teams were imperfect. Oh Lord, have mercy? How dare Oh
my god? How is ore you gonna sleep at night?

Speaker 2 (21:59):
No cares? But yeah, no, there's one team that Dan
Lanning loses sleepover and it's neither of these two.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
No, exactly, it's not even a good team. So we
got Ohio State hosting Tennessee and Ohio State fans, Oh,
they don't, they don't want to play us again. Listen, bro,
you got to earn the right to play Oregon again.
Handle handle your business. And then, like you, you had

(22:27):
a chance to earn the right to play them again,
you lost to Michigan. So I'm not confident that you're
gonna be ten Tennessee. How about that? How about that?
I actually have picked Tennessee to win this game in
the shoe. This is a Ryan Day special. This is
a Ryan Day special. If he loses this game in

(22:49):
the shoe, they are going to boo him out of
the stadium. He talked about how uncomfortable and how stressful
it is been losing the Michigan games in the city
and everything. He loses this game in the shoe and
it's not on some hell marry or something, It's going
to be bad. And I even feel bad for the
man in that way.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
He's gonna need an extraction team.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
Yeah, he may he may voluntarily leave his job, like
that's how uncomfortable it may be for him and his family.
There might leave on the table. But but what's your
family safety and happiness worth? Because he'll get in there.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
If I'm Ryan Day, I'm setting aside because he probably
got a bonus for making it the college football playoff,
I'm setting that bonus aside to pay uh black Rock
employees to be on standby to extract me and my
family out of the stadium. Once the zeros hit like
helicopter coming down into the shoe, Ryan Day jumping in.

(23:54):
It takes off like deposed dictator style because they're crazy
out there, and I think that's part of what makes
college football so incredible. But yeah, if I'm h and
I'm not joking about this, If I am him, I
have an exit plan. I have an exit plan to
get out of the city. Yeah, I got my hotel

(24:17):
in Cabo booked and I'm planning on winning this game.
And I do think they're gonna win this game. I
love your guy, Nico. I think the moment might be
a little bit too big for him. I think they
win this game. I think we get the rematch of
Oregon Ohio State. However, I just I'm very nervous because

(24:43):
of that, not just the Michigan loss, but even the
Notre Dame game that they won that he was so
proud of was a level of ugly that I don't
trust them. I don't trust him in big games. And
maybe Chip Kelly will have something cooking for this, but
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
Yeah, he might. All right, now that we got our
we will revisit the second round after the first round,
after we know who has been in there. But I
have Oregon and Notre Dame in the National Championship. Who
do you have in the National Championship so far?

Speaker 2 (25:20):
Mmm? So well? I'm unfortunately, uh, a semi final matchup
would include our two teams. I am objective, you know.
I think that I think that Arizona State is as
on fire as you can possibly be. I do view

(25:43):
Oregon as flame retardant, and so.

Speaker 1 (25:47):
I like.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
I like Oregon, I don't I don't love Georgia. So
you know, I'm it's starting to me to feel like
it's starting to me to feel like it's gonna be
Oregon against one of these Indiana teams.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
And I do like Boise though, and I want to
be really really clear about that. And and if if
we have SMU Boise, that could be a lot of fun. Uh.
And and I know people won't respect the legitimacy of Boise.
But where does Boise get to play George?

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Uh? They play in the Peach Ball in Atlanta. No,
their Bois gets to play in the Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Arizona State. Yeah. Arizona State's in Atlanta in the Peach Bawl.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
And then Boise's in the Festa Bowl. So they got
that Fiesta Bowl magic.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
Yeah, they got a big o line, they got a
legit oc they got a connected team. They've even when
they've been struggling lately, they're still playing good on defense.
We could get an Oregon Boise State rematch. I don't
I think SMU might have one win in them. I
don't think they have multiple wins in them. But I'm

(26:57):
currently currently I believe that the winner of Notre Dame
Indiana will be will be the team that I think
could end up playing Oregon in the National Championship.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
You got the answer, buddy, all right? Speaking of a team,
a new team, we got Bill Belichick, head coach of
North Carolina. I love this with everything in my bones,
and I know that you're probably surprised that I do.
I love it I mean, how can you not. So,

(27:29):
first thing is x's and o's are not going to
be a problem. A competent staff and football knowledge people
that that's not going to be the issue. He's gotten
money for the collective. He's gotten ten million dollars for
a staff. He has everything in place that he needs.
Twenty million dollars for a collective one of the that's

(27:51):
going to be one of the highest numbers. So the
only question is can he recruit because he's not gonna
come in and complain about the transfer portal and come
in and complain about recruiting. That's just not who he is.
And I like that part because the coaches will get
to complaining about about this, they lose and people are like, oh,

(28:19):
well he's MF in the NFL. No, he's not the
NFL MF him. They were like, we don't want you anymore.
That's why he's in college. It's not because he's given
a middle finger to the NFL. The NFL gave a
middle finger to Bill Belichick and he was like, Okay,
cool if it if it's a F me, then you
know it's f you like that That was his response.

(28:40):
I'll go I'll go show you that I'm that I'm
like pee Wee kirkuling a legend in two games.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
Yeah, yeah, all right, I'm with you. I love it.
My social media, I've almost I've had the I've had
to be judicious about my time on social media this
week because people are comparing this to Arizona State hiring

(29:11):
her Edwards. No, I could not be more furious about
the compared because former NFL coach is where the comparison stops. Yeah,
that's the end of it. People say it was giving
her Edwards vibes that Bill Belichick came in and he said,
we're going to run a pro development model. First of all,

(29:36):
her Edwards never said that. He never said that that
was what his boss said he would be doing. But
her Medwards, Her Medwards came in strolling singing, zippity dude,
didn't know the mascot hadn't coached in college in thirty years,
hadn't coached in the NFL in nine years. Was not

(29:57):
given a responsibility to coach the offense, was not given
a responsibility to coach the defense, was not given the
responsibility to recruit. They brought in somebody to do all
of those jobs for him. He was merely the face
of the program, and he got paid three million dollars
a year to be the face of the program. He

(30:19):
did not care about the rules, He did not compare,
care about the workload, he didn't care about any of
that stuff. He had a lot of people hyping him
up to care about those things, but that that wasn't
ever gonna be him. Bill Belichick is gonna know the rules.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
He's gonna four hundred page manifesto. That's what I'm calling it.
Met that the bible that he calls it. No, it's
a manifesto.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
Yeah, Now, Bill, Bill Belichick is gonna know the rules.
He's gonna know who wrote the rules. He's gonna know
what rule is coming next. He's gonna know everything about
every dead peer. He's gonna know he's going to be
And this isn't saying that he's going to be successful,
whereas herm was not her actually did okay, Bill Belichick

(31:07):
might just do Okay. We don't know. But what I
will tell you is this man is not underprepared. He
is over prepared.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
Yes, and you said because of a lack of preparation.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
And when he said pro model, what was the next
thing he said, George, this is going to be like
a pro training model for the players that have the
ability to go pro. He was intellectually honest in what
he said that their program would be, because every college

(31:41):
football program is supposed to be about professional development, every
single one. What he is telling you is I know
the NFL better than anyone, and for the people who
actually have the ability to play, I'm going to be
able to develop them the way that I turned Wes
Welker from a slot receiver to a Pro Bowl. I'm

(32:02):
gonna be able to take Julian Edelman from quarterback to
elite wide receiver. I'm gonna take you like Tom Brady
from fourth stringer to the goat. Yes, like I'm gonna
take Gronk from often injured to one of the top
five tight ends of all time. That's what I'm gonna
do for you between eighteen and twenty three.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
And if people who don't have the ability to go
to the NFL, you're you're gonna be on a winning
football team. That's that's what he's saying. Like people missed
the nuance in that.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
No, he's just out there as state in facts and
so it had there is there could not be a
bigger gap between Arizona State making up some corporate gobbledygook
to support the higher of an athletic director's best friend
and former client, and North Carolina hilariously getting younger by
getting someone eight months younger than Mac Brown and saying that, like,

(33:01):
we want to be taken seriously as a football school
as we are a basketball school because we do this
on the basketball land, we develop and produce pros, and
we can do it in both sports, though not as
many lately. True, but it is a risk. It is
a risk, and it's a big middle finger to duke

(33:25):
and it's a it really like NC State has gotten
to the point and Wake has gotten to the point
where they feel like they belong in the conversation for
best team in North Carolina as much as North Carolina
University of North Carolina and University of North Carolina is
losing all the best recruits to University of Tennessee and
they're sick of it, and they put some money where
their mouth is. I love Mac Brown. I think if

(33:47):
you're not the future commissioner of college football, it should
be him. But this is a this is a step
in the right direction and Uh, it could pay huge
dividends in in ACC. I can't wait to see the
you know, Bill Belichick not taking the bait from ten
other eleven other ACC coaches, you know, trying to trying

(34:10):
to get in his head.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
Yep, all right, Next up, we got the transfer portal.
Because the transfer portal is open and it is flooded.
And this is just from the names that we know.
Right there's an army of players who are in the

(34:32):
transfer portal whose names that won't get posted by Hayes, Fawcett,
won't get paid posted by you know, Pete Damil and
all the rest of the crew. Just the names that like,
there are names that hopped in the portal that I
was when when when Malik Murphy hopped in the portal,

(34:52):
I was shocked until I found out what one of
the offers was was. But behind the scenes, we're talking
like the highest number that we've ever heard for a
quarterback until yesterday when we heard that there's a big
ten team offering quinn Ewers four million dollars to stay

(35:14):
to come to them next year, which is actually probably
his best move because he'll make more in that four
million dollars in getting another opportunity in college to be
a first round pick than he will going to the
NFL and being a two to three or four.

Speaker 2 (35:33):
I'm uh this. Ever, it seems like every time the
NCAA does things to the schedule at the end of
December that they say is going to make things easier
for coaches, it just makes it even more wild. And
this is why you need football coaches involved making some
of these decisions. However, there is one coach that's out

(35:53):
here complaining the loudest that should probably shut up.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
Lane Kifvin. Yes, dude, he's he just signed portal play.
So he was like, man, it's so hard. We got
to sign the transfer port well signing day, the transfer
portals open and prepared for the college football player. You
wouldn't prepare for the college football playoff. Be quiet. You
only had two things to do.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
So but he's but he's also like, and I don't
think it's fair to many Diaz that we aren't going
to get to play against Malik more Murphy and the
Gator Bowl. This is a man who left FAU before
coaching in the bowl. Uh. This is also somebody, by
the way, I think Old Miss has brought in the

(36:38):
most transfers since the portal opened so far, they got
to the best offensive linemen out there. They got a
former five star defensive lineman from LSU. They're benefiting from this,
and he's out here complaining about the sea. He just complains.
I think he just if he wasn't complaining, he wouldn't

(36:58):
be breathing.

Speaker 1 (37:00):
Dude. It's weird because, like I like Lane Kiffin, I
respect Lane Kiffin, I also think that one that that
Lane Kiffy's a whiny bitch, Like it's I'm trying to
square all of this, where like I respect the dude.
I think he's a good coach. I think he's smart, talented,
all of these things. But he's whiny as hell.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
So he's Luca.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
Yes, that's what he is. He's Luka Doncic exactly. And
and and if you told it, I would tell him
that if he has to, like, hey, yo, I heard
you say at this, Yes, that's exactly what I said,
compared you to Luka Doncic, And he.

Speaker 2 (37:37):
Would, yeah, he would. He would shrug it off, and
he would complain about the temperature of the room.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
Well, it is pretty hot hot in here, so so
the schedule obviously presents an issue. I do like the
earlier signing period before the transfer portal opens because then
it locks in high school recruiting first, right, but sort
of because they already know who's a lot of teams

(38:05):
know who's going to hop into portal already. And they
made an exception this year for teams that are hopping
in the college football playoffs. So like Malik Murphy had
to leave Texas last year to get to Duke while
they were in the College Football Playoff. Now players who
are playing in the college football Playoff get a window
after to be able to hop into portal, which is excellent.

(38:30):
Love it.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
So what do you think of Kenny Dillingham telling his
players hop in the portal and still come to practice.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
I'm in, bro, I'm in. Are you kidding me?

Speaker 2 (38:40):
Because he said you'll have a better shot at getting
where you want to go, but if you want to
stick with us, like, I'm cool with you doing both.
There's a I thought I thought people would receive that
in a very different way than they did. And I'm
reading the comments on some of this and they're like,
Kenny Dillingham is aiding in the death of college football
and he's been to cuck and I don't like. I

(39:02):
don't feel that way. I think he's being a realist.
I don't think he wants his the players that he
wants back, because that's what we got to be honest about,
a lot of people in the portal get pushed in,
but the players he want back of him saying like,
I don't see you as a starter next year. You
still have the opportunity to come earn it. You earn
as part of this team a trip to the College
Football Playoff. But if you getting the spot you want

(39:27):
means that you have to hop in the portal now.
I'm fine with you doing both.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
And I thought that that would be universally issue. My
only issue is only issue, and this is conspiracy theory. Brain.
If you're going because most players know where they're going already,
we'd be like, listen, if you're going to a place
for somebody that we are going to be playing, then
then go ahead and hop in the portal now, because

(39:55):
I don't want you to have that conflict. I don't
want to be side eyeing you nothing. So if you're
going to Clemson or Texas, you should probably go.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
And that is that.

Speaker 1 (40:12):
And then whoever we and then if we win that game,
if you're going to Oregon, you should probably go.

Speaker 2 (40:20):
That way. I see what you're saying. My assumption is
that a lot of these players are gonna end up
at like Abilene or Okay.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
Oh then then when then we ain't got no problem.
I wanted to get more film and more opportunity. I
love it. I love it. And then we're gonna continue
to talk more about this, about this transfer portal, about
the player in in the coming weeks. But I did
want to discuss for a quick second about the trans

(40:53):
transfer portal. I am in favor of it. I do
think that some of these teams are screwing up their
rosters with some of this high school recruiting and transfer portal.
With how much like the desperation that they're showing. And
you're gonna see more teams like pay attention to teams

(41:13):
that have some of their best players hop in the portal.
But then they they signed some huge recruit, they messed
up their money, particularly a place on the West coast
where they're paying a high school recruit more than Dylan
Stewart over at South Carolina is making and he's proven

(41:34):
and stamped, so now you have players on that team
saying I need a raise. I'm a good player already
other people want me. Yeah, you're paying him that, and
especially if he come in and don't start oh new

(41:56):
new new new new, new new new new.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
See that's why, that's why we need collective bargaining, because
this isn't a problem in minor league baseball. It's not
a problem if somebody comes in from the Dominican Republic
making four million a year as a sixteen year old,
because you're under contract and they're under contract, and you
couldn't renegotiate if you wanted to, so you the organization.

(42:22):
If it ends up being a financial mistake on their part,
then it is what it is. But if you have
the ability to negotiate, and I've noticed this about a
video you made, that is that people are that people
commented on a lot at the time and now have
changed their mind about and are coming back. And that
was Mike Gundy saying once the season starts, I don't

(42:42):
want to hear from you or your agent. Yeah no,
And everybody was like you Ravo and Mike taking a hand,
And now people are coming back leaving comments saying maybe
that's why we lost Mike because you don't listen to
your players and you didn't incentivize them, you know. And
again that's that's hindsight, and it could be completely incorrect.
But if you have the ability to squeeze out a

(43:05):
little bit of extra juice or an agent does on
your behalf, they're gonna do it, yep, as well.

Speaker 1 (43:11):
As they should. As they should. That's exactly what your
representation should be doing. This is Yeah, there's nothing else
to talk about, but you guys, this is the Unafraid
Show College Football Apostles. I'm George Reiser, he is Ralph.
And wait, I didn't say the wrong thing, did I?

Speaker 2 (43:32):
No?

Speaker 1 (43:32):
No, No, you didn't right, You did it right, You
did it right.

Speaker 2 (43:34):
I just I did want to say. We had a
few comments. There wasn't a show the last couple of weeks.
We are the College Football Apostles. We do follow college football.
We were out at these games. So I traveled out
to the Territorial Cup covered some high level high school
footall in the state of Arizona. While Arizona State was
out there winning the win the Big Champion Big Twelve Championship,
you traveled to Indianapolis, right yep. And we have all

(43:57):
that content on Unafraid Show. So just so people know, well,
this isn't like a Brion a Chicken Fry partnership breaking
up type deal. We actually do love college football and
a big part of that is actually going out to
these games. Sometimes when we're traveling, we're not able to record,
but I do. That was twice in a row. I
was smiling because that was twice in a row where

(44:18):
you said Unafraid Show College Football apostles and now the
PAC twelve to me, is truly dead. You have forgotten
about the PAC twelve because you have not mistakenly called
our show the PAC twelve apostles.

Speaker 1 (44:29):
Yep. All right, peace, I'll catch you guys next week
