Speaker 1 (00:01):
I'm George Reister, He's Ralph Amson, and this is the
college Football Apostles, and we got it so much to
talk about.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
College football is changing right before our eyes.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Dave Portnoy just offered up to three million dollars for
a quarterback, and people are.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Like, this is all under there. No, it's not.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
It just means more. Remember that, people, It just needs more,
all right. We also found out that, oh that what
happened over at UNLV was not an accident, that Matthew Sluka,
that the kid was offered one hundred thousand dollars and
(00:45):
didn't get it and that's why he's out. We also
have to talk about the Hugh Freeze versus Lane Kiffin
because that's becoming a thing. The Mountain West versus the
Pac twelve. That war continues on Bear Alexander over at USC.
He's gonna red shirt this year? What the hell is
going on? Are our biggest fears coming true? And of
(01:07):
course we got the picks for the week and talking
about games.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
This is a hell of a slate. We are excited.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
We know that you are too, and make sure that
you guys like subscribe and tell a friend about it.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
So go down like it right now.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
If you're watching on YouTube, if you're watching on Twitter,
make sure you go to the YouTube link and follow
along because we got lives on Tuesday, Thursdays and Sundays
and plenty of content in between.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Gambling picks come out today too.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
This is a hell of a day, hell of a
show college football, and now it's time to go. So
we're gonna start though with the Dave Well, sorry, well,
what happened at UNLB yesterday? So Matthew Sluka, So it
actually started the night before and I was finishing up
the nightcap on Sirius XMP, I had just turned off
(02:00):
com Rex and then I see a Brett McMurphy tweet
pop up, and it was like Matthew Sluka, UNLB quarterback
deciding he's gonna red shirt for the rest of the
year and transfer. And my immediate reaction was, this is whack.
This is whack. This is terrible.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Man. Just play out the year and then you know,
and then transfer.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Go get your bread, because I looked at he was
having a good season and then I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa,
never mind, he's a senior. Oh, this was the kid
from holy Cross, duh, because UNLB had two kids transfer in,
one from holy Cross, another from Campbell, and the holy
Cross kid won the job. And then I'm sitting here
thinking this kid was sought after if we remember, why
(02:47):
the hell would he transfer for no money?
Speaker 2 (02:50):
This doesn't even make any sense.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
This is coming from a quarterback dad who knows a
lot of quarterback dads and understand some inner workings of
these nil.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Deals that a lot of other people don't.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
And there's a video and Unafraid show break down the
entire scenario, So go back and if you want to
rehash all the details there. But Ralph, once I understood
and we heard from the players, which we detailed the
video and everything.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
I was like, oh, this makes a lot of sense.
If I show up to.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Work and people stop paying me, I'm gonna stop showing
up to work.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, simple, Yeah. I mean, Also, this isn't It's not
a job, right, Like, that's the whole point of this
is it's not a job. It's amateur sport. It's a
(03:50):
fee that is supposed to be on top of the
office equipment that he gets to do his job, which
is his pads, his room, his board. Even though it
said that he didn't. He wasn't getting like a stipend
for a living expenses as a grad student at UNLV.
It what people need to understand is like they're equating
(04:11):
this to an issue of greed or a professional contract dispute.
Matthews finished college. He's done. He played three and a
half years. He was an All Patriot League player YEP,
two times Walter Payton finalists. Like this is a really
(04:31):
really good player at the FCS level, and because of
the COVID allowance, he is allowed to go out and
spend one year one playing at a graduate level to
see if he can become an NFL caliber quarterback. But
as it stands right now, he understands about himself, he's
(04:52):
probably not going to go to the NFL. He has
one opportunity to show it or one opportunity to play
high level college football. He had a lot of options,
and the reason that he chose UNLV on top of
the offense making sense for him, was that he believed
he was gonna be paid for his verses. This is
(05:14):
somebody who hasn't taken nil before. This was someone who
says that he was told him and his agent, Marcus Cromarty,
who he was already in conversations with while he was
still enrolled at holy Cross before he said before the
twenty twenty three season was over, and these aren't claims
that came out in the course of the story. He
gave an interview after committing to NLV that he had
(05:38):
an agent and was talking to him about what the
next steps were going to be. He ultimately makes the
decision to go to UNLV. Three days later, Equity Sports,
the agency that he has signed with, makes his signing
official and they announce it. Then he finishes his college
career at holy Cross. He graduates and reports for Fault camp,
(06:00):
where he wins the starting quarterback job. And at that
point his agent engages UNLV and says, hey, okay, so
we had that conversation about one hundred thousand, how we
do this cash a check? And the collective is like,
what are you talking about, which I don't blame the
collective because again they don't know, And so then they're like, hey,
(06:24):
we might be in trouble here. His agent isn't registered
in the state of Nevada. We don't even know he
had an agent. We didn't know anything about this money.
We cut a check for his moving expenses, but we
don't actually know why he's asking for this money. So
go take it up with the head coach. They go
take it up with the head coach, Barry Otum, and
(06:46):
he's like, what are you talking about?
Speaker 2 (06:50):
So it's hard.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
It's hard at that point, problem for sure. So I
don't blame the collective. I don't blame y owed him
to a certain extent, and I don't blame the kid
and supposedly the assistant that offered it as an offensive
coordinator who we've praised the last Brendan Marian for his
system and it's still a good system. It still works.
(07:14):
He's still incredibly smart, you know, he's still a very
very talented coach. But they're saying the promise came from him,
that it wasn't communicated, And Barry Otam is like, I'm
not negotiating during the season, which you're a fan of.
You made a video say.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Yeah, no, no, no, no, we're not, because then that means that
we need to renegotiate if you're not playing up to
that level. No, there's a time for pay and a
time for play. But I guess the overarching question though
of this is Is this a problem with college football? Like,
is this the doomsday scenario, Ralph, Because everybody's like, oh see,
(07:49):
this is what we were afraid of. College football is
broken And I'm like, no, it's a business for everybody else.
And this is exactly why NIL to transfer a portal,
everything associated with it needs to be brought out into
Front Street. That the NCAA fighting against it making these
dumb ass rules that everybody's just skirting around anyway, Just
(08:11):
open the market, make sure everything is transparent so everything
can be in writing. Because this is like a drug
deal at this point in time. If Ralph, if me
and you are selling drugs or doing anything illegal and
then somebody comes to come rob us, right, what's our recourse.
(08:33):
We can't call the police. We're gonna do call them
and tell them that you that they taking your money
in drugs.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Gotta call OMAR exactly.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
That's literally your only option. Yeah, and that's not good
for college football. So there's a lot of people who
think that this is the doomsday scenario. No, it's the
doomsday scenario for these backdoor deals.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Everything needs to be on Front Street.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
And that's where Georgia Governor Kemp is on the right
path because he signed an executive order and we talked
about it on a previous show where the schools in Georgia,
the college is in Georgia can make direct nil payments
to the players. So now we can enter into contracts.
It ain't no problem. That means that now they're enforceable
(09:21):
on both sides. Huh, like a normal business.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Deal, right and so, But people are saying, well, this
is it. Nil's the problem. This wasn't even nil. This
wasn't even nil, which is what which is what UNOV
is hiding behind right now in their legal statements that
they're issuing, saying that, hey, we don't engage in pay
for play. We know that's not allowed. We don't engage
in pay for play, right because this wasn't nil in
(09:46):
the first place. It wasn't a company using somebody's name,
image and likeness to get equal value of promotion from
that player. It was a pay for play deal that
was set up and not followed through on for any
number of reasons. And a I'm sure there might be
some recourse here. We might end up find finding out
the truth, or somebody could get deposed. Lawyers are always
going to get involved in this type of stuff because
(10:07):
that's billable hours for them.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
But there's some UNLV.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
But wouldn't you and LV been better off they're three
and oh potentially headed to the college football playoffs. Wouldn't
they have been better off pr wise and financially to
just pay the kid the one hundred thousand dollars that
that was promised, because now there's going to be an
NCAA investigation. Now they got bad publicity. Now they might
not the new quarterback might not be as good or
(10:34):
as effective. It would have been better to just find
the money and pay the money then end up here.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Find a company like first of all, UNLV's got a
ditch blueprint. They got a ditch blueprint because blueprint didn't
didn't do like they the client that they're managing in
UNLV just lost their starting quarterback at three and oh
because they couldn't come to some common sense solution which
like that.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
And they're feilling to settle for ten thousand dollars a
month for the next four months, so that's forty thousand dollars.
It's a it's a terrible situation. And if you guys
want to know more about it, head over to the
Unaffrase show.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
We have a really good video.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
About it, Ralph the same damn day that everything is
really taking shape, because that was Tuesday night, and then
all of the details came out Wednesday, and then yesterday
we find out that USC defensive lineman Bear Alexander is
(11:36):
now also not playing football anymore. He's done for the
year at USC said that he was red shirting, and
then his quote unquote fatherlike figure says, no, no, no, he's
not leaving USC. He just wants to make sure that. Yeah,
(11:58):
he just wants to make sure that they are in
a position the way he could be the full time
starter and the leader that he was brought there to be.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Yeah. So, not a good week for people who think
coaches are honest, because not only did you have the
situation with Matthew Sluka being promised money that never came,
you had the immediate media reports that came out, and
you talked about this on your video. People need to
go to Unafraid show watch your full breakdown of it.
The two immediate media reports that came out that served
(12:32):
as the rebuttal for UNLV probably came from Barry Otam
and they were both like well, somebody came and bought
him off our team. And then the next one was, actually,
we've paid him everything we owed him and he just
hired an agent after winning two games. All three of
those things are lies. And so then we get into
a situation where Lincoln Riley where he gets questioned in
a press conference like, hey, Barry Alexander isn't playing much?
(12:54):
Is that an issue? And Lincoln Riley snaps on everybody
and he's like, hey, no, you guys try to make
a story out of absolutely anything. There is no there
there no story at all. Twenty four hours later, Bear
Alexander's like, I'll show you no story, and.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Then so, yeah, I will show you no story, all right,
and so and so one day later, Lincoln Riley's facing
down the media.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
His level of humility is like, yeah, there's a lot
of people that want to play on our defensive line.
He said, there's a lot of excitement about the opportunities
that will break for some of these guys. So he
never admits that it was a story, just that like, man,
it is what it is. So it's it's not been
a great week for a coach integrity. But I will
(13:42):
say this, I just bear. Alexander doesn't look good in
this No, no, really, he really.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
As confusing as to what he actually wants because he's
a kid that's been at a bunch of different schools.
And it's hard to look at USC and think that
they're the problem, considering that they have gotten their defense
so much better, and their defense is so much better.
And if you're not playing on this defense, is it
(14:10):
you or is it the defense?
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Well? I don't know. So here's what I don't understand.
He's not playing much right now. But he's got this
gorgeous apartment in SoCal, He's got this nil deal, which
makes you wonder is him saying like, oh, no, I'm redshirting,
but I'm not going to leave USC. Is that a
way for him to try to keep or recoup some
of the money that's coming his way. Is he the
(14:37):
one that's generally dissatisfied or is he getting bad advice
for somebody else? Because I think you pointed out he
went to Terrell High School in twenty eighteen, Skyline twenty twenty,
went to IMG for twenty twenty one in twenty twenty two.
He is at University of Georgia. In twenty twenty three,
he was at USC and then entered the portal after
the season, only they get brought back in and chew
(15:00):
to self red shirt.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
That's the part that's confusing to me. I don't understand
what the what the plan is. He feels like he's
on the no plan plan right now.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
So I agree, so it.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
But but if you're Lincoln Riley, Ralph, if you're if
you're the coach, are you bringing the guy back that
does that?
Speaker 3 (15:26):
I don't. I don't think you should. But again, we
just we just had UNLV issue a statement saying that
they don't do pay for play, And in order to
not bring him back, you're gonna probably have to have
a conversation with the collective and saying like, don't offer
this dude a thing. Yeah, so yeah, I don't know. Uh,
(15:50):
I would not bring him back. But my assumption is
this is a big talented dude that somebody's gonna take
a chance on. I think you'd be stupid to offer
him money at this point.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Yes, correct, Yeah, And and something is clearly up, you know,
I mean, when you change that many locations and it's
not for family situations or something like like that, there's
something to be said about that, all right, but we
will see because Lincoln Riley said that he's not talking
(16:21):
about it, he's not even going to address it, So
that means that there's something else that too.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
But I digress, all right, on to the next thing.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
So Dave Portnoy, he made waves today because he said
he is sick and tired of what he's watching over
there at Michigan three and he is willing to pay
up to three million dollars for a usc for a
(16:52):
Michigan quarterback n NIO money deal with Barstool.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
I love it. I'm not mad at it either, because
if I had that.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Type of cash laying around, you don't think that any
school that I want to be successful will be successful
in terms of.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Getting a particular player.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
Yes, yes, we will get what we need, and I'm
not mad at it. And people are like, well, this
isn't fair and all bro. Pretty much every single school
has one hundred millionaire and billionaire owners. It's just the
I'm sorry, yeah, of donors or people who went to
(17:31):
that university. It's just a matter of if this matters
to them or not, or if you are able to
mobilize them, and it is you know resonates with them
to their core. So this is a you problem. This
is not a Michigan problem. This is the man who
is committed to it. He was committed to pay Connor Stallions.
(17:53):
Now you can not respect it all you want to
or not think it's valiant or listen he this.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Is college football. This is for crazy people.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
This is for like, this is America's version of European soccer.
We are crazy people, us college football fans. Let's not
get it twisted. I am not above you know, like
doing things to make sure that the school that I
want to win wins. I'm not above it, and I
(18:27):
know that most people are not. Even if they are
forward facing, they will also be like, all right, is
this gonna get as a natty because of So.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
That's okay.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Yeah, I think you're right. I think that you. I
think you're right, and I think a big reason why
you're right is I can't think of like if I
think about your school, like, do I not think Phil
Knights sitting around saying like what do I gotta do
to get this done? Yes? When I on my school,
(19:02):
do I think Nap Lawrence isn't sitting around saying like
all right, how much I got to pay to get
this done? You know some schools they got they have
these big donors. And if Dave Portnoy's a Michigan fan,
then he's gonna want to contribute. He announces that it's
two to three million dollars.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
You love it.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
I don't necessarily love it. And here's why Jaden Davis
is on that team. Yes, he's there, right, You're not
gonna pay somebody three million to the No, hype comes
from sitting on the bench and waiting. The only way
to get hype sitting on the bench and waiting is
if people get frustrated with the starter, which has already
(19:38):
happened at Michigan. But he's the third quarterback, right, and
then they have he's.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
A true freshman.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
And I've seen this kid up clost and personal at
three DQQB. Him and my son have worked out together
over there with Taylor Kelly kid. The kid looks good
like he throws throws the ball well, he doesn't have
the strongest armony.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
He is mobile.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
But there's a big difference in playing high school football
and then turning around and playing you know, Power five
college football at Michigan. When you got big games. Everybody's
giving you their best. And I do believe that Charon
Moore up there, he's going to be conservative, and he's
(20:24):
already been conservative, But him choosing Davis Warren over alex
Orgie to start the season, that says something. Well it
said something at that point in time about alex Orgie
being able to throw the football.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
And their confidence in him.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
And then when alex Orgie got in, they were like no, no, no, no,
no no. It was like at South Carolina when their
quarterback got hurt and they brought in Oh lord, the
kid used to be at Oregon and then at Auburn, Yes,
Robbie Asherd they brought him in, and South Carolina's like, nope, new, new.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
New, We're not throwing the ball, buddy.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
So now at this point Michigan has to Now, granted,
freshmen are not always ready, so I'm not saying that
they should throw Jayden out there. However, Dave Portnoy is
also putting Michigan in a situation to where they're not
gonna be able to recruit high school quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Well that's my point. That's the point that I was
ultimately trying to make, is Brady Hart is committed to them.
I don't know if he's twenty twenty five or twenty
twenty six, but he's committed to them. And when when
somebody tagged him in this video saying, hey, you're talking
about giving three million dollars away, it should go to
Brady Hart. Brady Hart reta, No.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
It shouldn't go to Brady Heart.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
I'm not paying no damn high school kid, no millions
of dollars to come to my school.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
I don't even know if you're Doud.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
What I'm saying is, if I'm Sharon Moore, I want
to have a conversation with Dave Portnoy before he floats
something like that, because you don't know how Michigan could
get set up to be put in a situation. Not
that they're against doing illegal things, but you never know
how they're gonna get set up in certain situations. So
like right now, you got John Mattier at Washington State.
You don't think that video came across Johnmetire's timeline.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
And Jo Matier like, Hey, he's hey Michigan hoping my DMS.
I'll be hopping by DMS cause uh, I'll be over
there for one way two and that's not that, and
you can't be mad. And if you're Washington State or
a Washington State fan, how the hell you're gonna be
mad at jomaterir.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
No, I don't think you're gonna be mad at Jeometier.
But what's gonna happen is there's gonna be all these
quarterbacks across the country using Dave Portnoy's comments to negotiate
with their own schools. Like I'm just saying that. Like
I love the idea of Dave Portnoy saying I'm gonna
take it upon myself to fund Michigan's quarterback operation from
(22:54):
here on now. I don't love that it didn't happen
in the way that some other en closed doors. It
happened for content, and in my it is potentially bring
some trouble and some confusion to college football in an
era where ever he's talking about O. Nil is the
problem and I was the problem. Nil is not the problem.
(23:15):
Doing these contracts would not be the problem. Revenue sharing
would be the problem. Introducing money is not the problem.
If that was the case, then giving that money to
coaches over the last twenty five years, that would the
issue I have with it is I think what Dave
Portnoy is doing could be really really great for Michigan.
It could be really great for the quarterback market. However, however,
(23:35):
doing it out in public could set a bunch of
people up to get in trouble. So that's that's my
only thing, is that you have quarterbacks right now that
instead of thinking about the season in front of them,
they're thinking about a three million dollar pay day. And
if you don't think that's the case, to look at
how many people apply beyond game shows for far less money,
not even to get the money, for an opportunity to
(23:56):
compete to get the money. People want money. If you
turn becoming Michigan's quarterback into a game show, it's gonna
disrupt everything. And the only reason we're even in this
position is because the nc DOUBLEA wouldn't let the student
athletes share in the revenue. So now anybody who can
privately fund it. Now you're seeing how elections work. You're
seeing how it works. Right now, one dude with a
(24:17):
wild idea can drop seven figures and get some influence
in a situation.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
This is genius, though, because there's nothing that NCUBA can
do about it, Because He's like, I have a legitimate company,
a media company. I'm gonna pay the kid. Hey, listen, listen.
If you're Michigan's quarterback, we got a spot for you.
You gotta do pizza reviews. You gotta do this and that.
That's a win because not because not only do you
(24:45):
get to be Michigan's quarterback and you get Nio money,
you are also gaining a following that is going to
do you more good than even that million plus dollar
that you're going to make is going to do for you.
This is an absolute win. And you know what, my
(25:06):
kid can go to Michigan.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
How about that? Cheaters?
Speaker 1 (25:11):
And you know and you know what, and and and
then if you dare to call us cheaters, I'm going
off on you. I'm going off with I'm defending them.
This is college football, buddy.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Every day in America is thinking go blue? Right now?
Speaker 1 (25:26):
Yes, and you think and you brought up the politicians,
right uh. And this has been another thing is you
said this, you know, is how the political system works.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
You earn money.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
Well, politics aren't playing college football because you have politicians
showing up the college football games. They got to show
up because I love college football so much, and no,
it's a photo op. And you have Donald Trump who's
going to the Georgia Alabama game, and Kaitlin Debore oh
(26:03):
Man masterclass, sir, master class in how to handle a question,
because them folks asked him about Donald Trump going to
their game and how cool it was and all that,
and his response was essentially, man, listen, We're so happy
that there are so many celebrities that love to come
(26:24):
to this game. There's a lot of influential people that
want to be here. It just speaks to the magnitude
of this game and of our university. We are happy
for it, and we love that people want to be
a part of it. It's going to get a lot
of attention, but we got to keep focused not on
the celebrities that are going to be there, but on
the football game. I was like, Kaitlin, bro don't fall
(26:47):
for the banana and the tailpipe man, don't fall for it.
They they set him up to just absolutely get get.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
Killed either way because from that answer.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
Because he's a football coach, he was asked a football
type question. So, no, it is not my job at
that point in time to give my political affiliation.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
And I saw in the comments.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
People were like, yeah, that's exactly what I would say
if I were voting for Donald Trump.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
And I didn't want to offend anybody, or oh see
he hates Trump.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
I was like, no, he just gave He just wasn't
going to give you idiots and answer that you wanted,
and I loved it.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
At this point, we're like nine years into this process,
and like, if you can't wrap your head around the
idea that some people are going to vote for Republicans
and some people are going to vote for Democrats, I
don't know what to tell you. You're probably in shock
and miserable every single day. But I'm not a big
fan of bringing the politics into the college football apostles.
(27:56):
But it is part of the Unafraid Show network, and
in our personal lines, we're not afraid to talk policy
at all. Donald Trump is going to this game, Tim
Walls is going to like a Minnesota game, and so
you know they're they're both doing it right. But on
the on the Donald Trump end is an election year.
(28:18):
We're coming up on the election and he's going to
an SEC game where eighty percent of the crowd is
going to be super psyched that he's there. In in.
Uh is a game in Tuscaloosa.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
I think so let me very very far, but I'm
pretty sure it is.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
If the game's in Tuscaloosa, then it's not even in
a swing state anything. So I'm like, what are you?
Why are you wasting your time going to a game
in the.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
State is in tuscaloosas so you're you're already going to
be getting the cheers.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
Yes, he wants to get cheered for. He's supposed to
be trying to win an election, and he wants people
to clap him. So I don't have an issue with
the president or a presidential candidate, whether it's Walls or try.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
A Utah, Arizona this weekend.
Speaker 1 (29:07):
That's where we're right, right, right, Yeah, Oh, he should
be at Penn State, Illinois, that's where he should be. Yes,
I'm talking. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Illinois at Penn State.
That's where he should be in Pennsylvania.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
Right, But you're not guaranteed to get uproarious applause in
Happy Valley. It's probably gonna be fifty to fifty there
as the state is. This dude just wants to get
cheered for. And again, I don't care about politicians going
to football games. I love for I think everybody should
love football. But the idea that like he has an
opportunity to go be seen somewhere where he needs a
(29:40):
few votes, and he's gonna spend like what precious hours
he has left just getting showered with praise in Tuscaloosa.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
Come on, man, and he's gonna leave it, leave it,
have time and everything else. But you know there, you know,
we all have choices and decisions. Speaking of choices and decisions, though,
your boy, Hugh Freeze is back at it again. So
(30:08):
and he had some things to say after his team
lost twenty four to fourteen to Arkansas last week, and
he came out and said, listen, listen, listen, no offense
to cal no offense to Arkansas. And I love Sam Pittman,
and I hope that they win all the rest of
their games. But if we played them but the best
(30:31):
team didn't win, and will we played them nine more
times to make ten will beat them nine out of
ten times. That's not how this works, bro, Hugh, this
is not how this works. You only get to play
them one time, so nobody cares about what mysteriously could
have happened the next ten times or the next nine times.
(30:52):
Nobody cares. You get one opportunity to win the game,
and we don't feel sorry for you.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
And do you know what, we don't believe you.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
I don't believe that if they played col nine more times,
they would beat them nine more times. And I don't
believe that if they played Arkansas nine more times that
you would beat them nine more times.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
And do you know why, because of the other thing
that he said, Ralph.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
We gotta find somebody who won't throw the ball to
the other team and who will run the ball and
not turn it over and not fumble.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
So if you got these problems, are they gonna be
fixed in the next nine games? No?
Speaker 3 (31:32):
This is a byo behavior. Some of the stuff that
he's publicly saying is him looking at the fact that.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
Ready for that Brian Harrison special.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
If he gets fired after this season, I think he
gets a twenty million dollar check. Why are you talking
about Sam Pitton, Pittman, Why are you antagonizing your own quarterbacks?
What in the world would you even talk about Ole
miss for lingk Kiffin just jumped down this man's throat too.
Plainn Kiffin smelled blood and he already knew Hugh Freese
(32:06):
was getting embarrassed in the media and jumped in. Auburn
fans had to be so sick of this.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
I know, I know, there's like how much you want
to bet that they wish that Gus Mauzan was back.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
They're like, damn, maybe maybe we shouldn't.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
Have fired fired Gus because they've got Gus Brian Harrison
and now him. Hey, buddy, listen, listen. You cannot be
impatient and like there's a big I think because you
can't be impatient, but you also can't wait too long.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
They tried to break up Brian Harson's family.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
Oh yes, they did, trying to say he was cheating
with uh with the intern or something like that or whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
she was a bad though.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
Enough enough fans were involved in trying to break up
Brian Harrison's family because they didn't like the direction of
the program. Look at the next four games for Auburn,
they need to go. He needs to go a minimum
of two and two in the next four games.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
So we'll tell you.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
They have Oklahoma, Georgia, Missouri, and Kentucky. Now I do Now,
Oklahoma and Missouri are winnable games.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Georgia.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
I think he's gonna drop a weird game this year,
but I don't think it's gonna be against Aubor And
and Kentucky has a tendency to put people in choke
holds and they don't score a lot of points.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
So yeah, yeah, they're gonna need to go to and two.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
Am I correct in saying that they have back to
back to back road games.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
Yeah, after the Oklahoma game. Yeah, the Georgia, Missouri and
Kentucky gam are on the road.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
That's a rough four and they have to go. They
have to go at least two and two for Hugh
Freeze to have a better record through twenty two games
than Brian Harson did when he got fired. If he
goes one and three over the next four, he'll have
the exact same record Brian Harson did when he got fired.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
What if he goes on for.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Then they're probably gonna bring back Klessi Crochet. But the
problem is you marriage's marriage is indestructible.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
You're rude. You are rude, all right?
Speaker 1 (34:35):
So he and he's also come at Lane Kiffin. Lane
Kiffin has clapped back, and I'll tell you I love
Lane Kiffin for I love Lane Kiffin on social media.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
He don't.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
He don't give a damn. He's like where they where
they'd be, like, honey, honey badger, don't give a fuck.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
That's Lane Kiffin. He's a damn honey badger. Bro.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
I love it. I love I watched him get ready
with Me video of him and his daughter uh the
other day. That was one of the funniest pieces of
content I've ever seen. And I you know, I'm I'm
at Arizona State. We got our pound of flesh from
Lane Kiffin. We got that man Tarmac. I have no
ill will toward him whatsoever. If if, and honestly, he
(35:20):
might owe us one if he has something to say
about Arizona State. I'll let it slide the first time.
But I would hate to be on the other end
of him, just because he just liked picking on people.
He's the white fifty cents.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
Mmmm.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
He just likes picking on people.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
And he's got dirt on his name already, so he like, Now,
what you're gonna say about me?
Speaker 2 (35:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (35:42):
Nick Saban publicly hates this man, and he's impervious to it. Yeah,
what what am I gonna say?
Speaker 2 (35:48):
I would love I love Coat Saban.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
That's what Hey, do you know that Nick Saban hates you?
I love Nick Saban. I don't know what the problem is.
He's great coach, fantastic mentor to me. Every he hates
you he did. Did you see what he said.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
In the book.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Yeah, but it's fine. I love him. He helped me
out so much. That's the like you not. No, I
don't understand speaking of hate.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
Ralph.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
This is Ralph. I just want to let everybody know.
Ralph is so conflicted right now because two things that
he loved are now broken. He loved the PAC twelve.
I love the PAC twelve two. It's over for me.
I don't get it. I have grieved, I have gone
through what the five stages of grief, and I am
(36:45):
moved on.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
It's over for me.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
And he loves the Mountain West Conference because the Mountain
West is you know, where Wyoming is, maybe where Arizona
State should be.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
Like, there's a lot of.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Things I'm going, I'm playing, I'm planning on I'll just
try it. But and now the Mountain West is being
poached by the PAC twelve. The PAC twelve was trying
to get Memphis UTSA and all of that, and then
Memphis is athletic director just or it was either athletic
director or their president. To day was asked about the
(37:21):
PAC twelve deal and he was like, I wasn't a
good deal.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
It was a bad, bad deal.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
So we backed out, and you have the PAC twelve
and the Mountain West are now on the verge of destruction.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Ralph.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
They're both on the verge because the PAC twelve, which
this year in July, became the first year that they
weren't going to have at least eight members in the conference,
and so they're in trouble. And you guys make sure
that you guys like subscribe right now, Like subscribe, go
to the YouTube channel, leave a comment, leave it in
the chat, everything in between. So now the Pack two
(38:00):
twelve has seven full members Oregon State, Washington State, Boise State,
San Diego State, Fresno State, Colorado State, and Utah State.
I'm tired of saying state that's first name. And then
the second thing is the Mountain West has UNLV Air Force, Nevada,
(38:20):
New Mexico, Wyoming, San Jose State, and Hawaii. So the
Mountain West has six full members right now, and they've
signed on UNLV is the in limbo right now. So
when twenty twenty five comes up, I'm sorry, When twenty
twenty yeah five come.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
Comes up, that's fine. But in July of.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Twenty twenty six, I believe, well so yeah, so yeah,
So twenty twenty four they go into the Big ten.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
So as of July twenty twenty six, the PAC twelve
has to have eight members, okay, and the following year,
the Mountain West has to have eight members. So they
are a year behind each other, and Ralph as they
get closer and closer to that deadline, you know what's
(39:13):
gonna happen. Either the either they're waiting on the ACC
to break up. That way they can grab like Wake
Forest or somebody, Syracuse or somebody, but they have to grab.
The PAC twelve has to get other Power five current
(39:34):
Power five schools I believe to maintain Power five status,
and the mount West just needs anybody. And do you
know who is trying to position themselves to get into
the PAC twelve. Please tell me two schools one of
mine very close to sea, yeah and Sacramento State. Okay,
(40:02):
So they are raising tons of money right now to
try to and commitments to try to make that happen.
So the PAC twelve does have a back door option,
a back door trap door option the mount West.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
I see, we got that same option too.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
We got a comment in the chat that kind of
is how I feel from Dustin Rains that they should
have merged from the beginning.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Yep, yep, everybody's egos got too big.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
You know this reminds you and maybe this is why
I'm so mad. We spent years trying to you know,
boy who cried wolf or whatever, chicken little sky is falling,
trying to tell people what was wrong with the PAC twelve.
One of my suggestions that I kept trying to hammer
home is like, hey, we got to get a couple
of these Mountain West teams that have outgrown the conference
over here to stabilize things, to legitimize them and make
(40:55):
the conference more attractive, because we're losing people. And You're like,
we're losing the conference anyway, This doesn't make sense. You
ultimately ended up being right. Whole conference fell apart, and
then the Mountain West and enters in this scheduling agreement
to give a little boost to Oregon State and Washington
State and you know how they always say this, this
(41:16):
is probably gonna get me in trouble, but please follow
me here. You know how women always say like, hey,
never never accept help when you're in a grocery store
parking lot, right, Like, you see somebody walk and they
offer to help you put your groceries away or something
like that. If it's a stranger, just say if you
can do it yourself, or make sure that you know,
go back into the store, like just don't don't have
(41:37):
too many interactions with with strangers. Don't put yourself in danger.
Right this, this what the Pac twelve is doing to
the mountain west right now, feels like the opposite of that.
It feels like not being able to load your groceries,
asking a passer by for help, then shanking them and
backing out over them, leaving the groceries and peeling out
(41:59):
like what what in the world?
Speaker 1 (42:02):
Like it?
Speaker 3 (42:04):
It's like giving somebody a hand because they're drowning and
they pull your ass in.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
Oh, so, so that's the that's the story that I
was gonna gonna say.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
It's the frog and the scorpion.
Speaker 1 (42:15):
Where the where the frog is standing there, he's on
the bank, he's getting ready to hop along the lily
pads to get to the other side, and then he
sees the scorpion.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
The scorpion says.
Speaker 1 (42:27):
Hey, yo, can I ride on your back over onto
the other side of the lake. And he's like, absolutely not, Bro,
you're a scorpion. You're gonna sting me. And the scorpion
is like, bro, if I sting you, I'm going to
die too. What the hell is wrong with you? Of
course I'm not gonna sting you, so and and the
frog is like that actually makes a lot of sense.
(42:49):
That would be dumb. So then he lets him on
his back, hops along the lily paths. They get about
halfway off, he stings them and he looks at him.
He's like, what the bro like you you said you
weren't gonna sting me, and and now you're gonna die.
He was like, bro, I'm a scorpion, Like what what
the hell you thought I was gonna do?
Speaker 3 (43:10):
So, but this is what this is gonna end up doing.
And I realized that this is gonna put Oregon State
in Washington State on my hate list, Like I'm I
got like two three teams on there. They're gonna be
on there forever forever thinking about a fourth the Washington Commanders. Okay,
(43:32):
I root against, Well, they didn't used to be called
the Commanders and the Arizona Cardinals used to be in
the NFC.
Speaker 1 (43:37):
Oh I forgot because in case, in case you don't
don't know, Ralph is is a Native American. He is
part of the Native Native. He is a half the
Native American and my.
Speaker 3 (43:52):
Dad that's a little the little star right there.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
And so that's why. So I was like, why does
he hate the Commanders? But now I get it. I
didn't put two and two together initially.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
Well yeah, I mean there's Dan Snyder, then there's the
NFC East and and all that. But like I I
just you know.
Speaker 2 (44:11):
That there's a few.
Speaker 3 (44:12):
There's a few. There's a few on there that I
pretty gleefully root against thinking about adding the Raiders. But uh,
but I I will. I will just be an all
time hater of Washington State and Oregon State for the
rest of my life because I will mount well, as
long as a Mountain West survives whatever, I'll just root
(44:33):
against that. I want. What I would love is for
the teams that they brought in to start just running
a train on them. Every single year. That would be
so funny to me.
Speaker 1 (44:44):
What if what if Wyoming goes over to the PAC twelve?
Will you will you be happy?
Speaker 2 (44:47):
Then?
Speaker 3 (44:49):
No? No, because it well, if Wyoming goes, everybody might
as well go. That's the thing I don't understand. Just
take every one, thank you.
Speaker 1 (45:01):
Just just stop this pomping circumstance, acting like you're you're
too good for people, you're desperate.
Speaker 2 (45:07):
Facts, well, you are desperate.
Speaker 3 (45:09):
Act at the two Montana schools, at the two California schools,
and then have an eighteen team All West Conference, like,
be as viable as you as you possibly can. But
I'm letting Boise State in the house, you idiots, dummies.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
You let you let the cat in the mouse house?
Speaker 1 (45:34):
Oh my, yes, hey, and they are going to eat
you and you can they play this year?
Speaker 2 (45:40):
Yep?
Speaker 1 (45:40):
Hey, y'all, make sure you leave your comments down in
the chat like subscribe, tell a friend about the show.
All right, So next thing up, we got to get
to these games this weekend, Ralph. We gotta get to
the games this weekend. We got big games. We're not
gonna talk about all of them because there are some
major games this weekend. We got Oregon at UCLA. We
(46:04):
got Arizona at Utah, Huge game, Pac twelve game. I'm excuse, excuse,
excuse me, Big twelve game. You got Big twelve versus
the SEC Oklahoma Arbor. Damn never mind, is just an
SEC game. You got Minnesota and I'm joking about all
these people. Minnesota at Michigan, Big ten game, and we
(46:26):
got Kentucky at all Miss. Now I'm excited to see
what happens with Arizona Utah because number one will cam
Rising be back and number two Arizona's defense horrendous. But
I want to see how their offense, which got stuffed
(46:47):
in a locker against Kansas State, how they do against
Utah's defense because TAMAC has been unguardable. That's tylor Roald McMillan.
Their wide receiver is gonna be a first rounder. So
I'm excited to see that one.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (47:02):
So but yeah, is that game in Tucson.
Speaker 2 (47:05):
No, that game is in rice Ecles. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (47:09):
That was probably Arizona's best chance because it's like one
ten this weekend.
Speaker 1 (47:15):
No, and it's nice and cool and everything in Utah
right now? All right, So the first game, Oklahoma State
at Kansas State Kansas State is favored by four and
a half points. And before we get into this game,
what what is our records this week?
Speaker 3 (47:33):
So a little bit of a threw it to the
judges beforehand. But I went four and one last week
to bring me to fourteen and seven. You went three
and one with an asterisk to get to eleven and eight,
eleven and nine. Yeah, you said, and I'm this so
(47:55):
this is word for word, and this was actually my
idea to let you off the hook on this. And
this is the second time you've pulled something like this
this year, So I gotta get you on the record
on stuff. You said, I'm going with Utah and less
Cam Rising doesn't play, But you never finished the sentence.
You never said that you were going to go with
Oklahoma State. You just said, so it like nullified it.
(48:18):
And in the moment right after you said it, I
was like, I'll absolutely give you that condition because I
had gone with Oklahoma State and that was my only loss.
And and Cam Rising didn't play because Utah was a
bunch of liars, which we've known forever. So uh so
I think that to me, it shouldn't count as anything,
(48:40):
and you should get one extra pick this. Yeah, weak
to make up for it, but I gotta get you
on record. Yeah next time, all the way, Okay, cool.
Speaker 1 (48:50):
Before we get into that, I want to address one
more question that came in in the chat, and this
was about the PAC twelve in the Mountain West, because
we talked about UC Davis and Sandy and Second Crimento State,
which are FCS teams in the Big Sky, and he
asked about any MAC teams or any of the Montanas
like Montana, Monteda State, or North Dakota State, which you know,
(49:11):
the day would be in South Dakota, which they're really good.
So I have not heard anything about those schools, so
about the other FCS schools, but I do think that
the the PAC twelve obviously would be happy to have
UC Davis academically because we want to have the standards.
(49:34):
And Sacramento State, I'm not sure if they're AAU accredited
or not, but maybe the PAC twelve is desperate enough
at this point in time. And then you got the
MAX schools. I think the MAX schools are they feel
pretty content right now with the MAX situation, and I
think that they're going to end up with some sort
(49:56):
of situation with either the Sun Belt, or or with
the whatever happens with the Mountain West. I think that
you're gonna end up with some sort of conglomeration of
the second tier of teams for like their own college
football experience.
Speaker 3 (50:15):
In this field. If we and I know that the
Big ten and SEC are getting together right now, and
I hope that.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
Forgot about that.
Speaker 3 (50:23):
Yeah, I would love your take on this.
Speaker 1 (50:26):
Yes, so for anybody that doesn't know, so the Big
ten and the SEC are coming together to have a powwow,
They're gonna have a meeting just them two, not the
Big twelve, not the ACC. The big dogs are the
big dogs gotta eat and this is finally, finally somebody
(50:50):
is like, oh, let's stop trying to be greedy and
individuals and let's do what's and now, let's work together
and do what's best for us. And mind you, that
is still the big people doing what's best for them. However,
(51:10):
I do believe that we are looking at that. The
one of the biggest problems with college football and the
reason why there needs to be leadership surrounding college football
alone and a commissioner, and I'm happy to take that
role at some point in time, is the schools are
invested in doing what's best for the schools and not
(51:32):
what's best for the sport, and the conferences are on
board with doing what's best for their conference and not
what's best for the sport. And the thing that's best
for the sport of college football is parody, just like
we have in the NFL. So like and because my
producer on the Night Cap, Rodge, he's not a college
(51:54):
football fan. And whenever he's a huge you know, he
loves the NFL, loves it European soccer. The thing that
he hates about college football, he's like, every time I
turn on like a team that I know some people
they're playing against, somebody out like a terrible team, particularly
in the beginning of the season, and he's like, this
is not normal. He was like, there's so many lopsided
(52:17):
games that it shouldn't be like that. Wait, is he
a UFC fan?
Speaker 2 (52:21):
No?
Speaker 3 (52:22):
Boxing? Okay, okay, well I was gonna say, like, that's
how UFC is for me. But I still watch it.
I'll turn it on the whole undercard. I'm learning two
people's names every yeh.
Speaker 1 (52:32):
But the fights are competitive usually and you don't know
and even if it's supposedly a ranked person versus not.
Speaker 2 (52:40):
You don't know who's gonna win.
Speaker 1 (52:42):
Like, that's the best part about sports, and college has
too many predictable outcomes. And that's what I think is
going to be better for the world of college football.
If the big ten in the SEC say all right,
let's come together, let's do what's best for college football,
and not what's best for Alabama and Georgia. No, let's
(53:04):
do what's best for college football. And yes, it is
going to hurt the individual universities on some level because
you're not gonna be able to have ridiculous runs.
Speaker 2 (53:15):
You're gonna have little.
Speaker 1 (53:16):
Short, little bursts, and then you're gonna be bad, and
then you're gonna have short little bursts and then you're
gonna be bad. Look at the Patriots, look at the Chiefs.
You're gonna have these short little bursts. And I actually
think that that's better for the long term health of
college football than you having teams that can never like like,
(53:37):
you know, if you're a Vanderbilt fan, you know that
you have zero chance to win in the National Championship.
Zero ever, But now imagine if Mississippi State can have
a chance every now and then that's better for the sport.
When when when there are no who is Mississippi State
(53:57):
playing this.
Speaker 2 (53:58):
Week of Texas? Thirty eight point spread.
Speaker 1 (54:02):
In a conference like that should never happen the NFL spreads.
If you get a double digit spread, if you get
a ten point spread, you're like.
Speaker 2 (54:11):
Oh, goddamn, that's a lot of damn points.
Speaker 1 (54:14):
And that's what college football needs to try to attain
is to get these spreads down.
Speaker 3 (54:19):
All right, So pretend you're the SEC, I'm the Big Ten.
We're sitting down for a meeting. Okay, here's what I
have to say to you. We don't need the NCUBA.
We don't need the College Football Playoff. We need you
and me. We need an eight team playoff at the
end of the year. Let's cut our conference games from
eight to seven, and then let's do Let's make people
(54:43):
battle to want to come play against us in our
own league to prove that they can join up. And
eventually we'll just replace the NCAA completely. We'll have our
own playoff. We'll keep everything in the house. It'll be
afc FC.
Speaker 2 (55:00):
What do you say, I'm not mad at that?
Speaker 1 (55:02):
And then we just pick off the rest of the
conference and be like a yo, acc here at the team,
like we just draft all right, I'll take my Miami, okay,
I'll take Florida State, I'll take North Carolina, all right,
I'll take Virginia and just draft them off. And what
know what, those schools are gonna say, thank you for
(55:22):
choosing us. Let's go tick me, pick me, hold on.
Speaker 2 (55:27):
Do we get a full share? Yes? Oh, okay, that's
all we need to say.
Speaker 1 (55:31):
Just tell us, tell us who we plan and what
time and what door you want us out of?
Speaker 3 (55:36):
Yeah, and that's all that these that's all they care
about anyway, is that full share. Guess what Washington generals
get paychecks too. The Washington generals get paychecks to follow
the Harlem globetrotterers around the country and get deep paints
in every city in America. And then they go to
the bank and they cash that check and they are happy.
So if somebody wants to replace Vanderbilt as the next
(55:57):
Vanderbilt and the SEC, there's gonna be a long line
of suitors, just like there's gonna be a long line
of suitors to get Dave Portnoy's money to go be
the quarterback at Michigan. I'm warming up my arm right now, so, like,
I don't know, this meeting to me feels like they
could just live golf the entire NCAA.
Speaker 1 (56:15):
Yeah, yep, I'm not mad at that all right. Now
back to the games. So we got Oklahoma State Kansas
State minus four, and this is crazy how much things
have changed with one loss these two Big t and ten.
These two teams actually had thirty three first place votes
in the Big twelve media pole and a lot of
(56:37):
people thought they were gonna be undefeated headed into this week. Well,
Utah took care of Oklahoma State last week and Kansas
State got absolutely just just taking behind Woodshed last week
by BYU and.
Speaker 2 (56:54):
I didn't love well, we didn't love.
Speaker 1 (56:56):
Kansas State's performance in their thirty seven thirty one to
seven and win over Arizona. So now at this point
in time, we can't love them versus Oklahoma State. But
Oklahoma State can't run the ball with Oli Gordon.
Speaker 3 (57:14):
All right, hype contest more overhyped going into the year,
Ollie Gordon or Avery Johnson.
Speaker 1 (57:24):
Avery Johnson because people weren't hyping up Ali Gordon as
much because he had the off season incident so they
were kind of just but but two point nine yards
of carry not cutting it right now?
Speaker 3 (57:39):
Yeah, I mean, OLLI Gordon gotta be careful because he
might two point nine yards of carry might get him
pulled over for no reason in still Water.
Speaker 2 (57:48):
Instead of getting pulled over for a reason, why get
him pulled over for no reason? You damn right about that.
Speaker 3 (57:52):
Pull him over, tell him to drive faster.
Speaker 2 (57:55):
I get back to your old self.
Speaker 3 (57:57):
Yeah, I man, I cop might buy him a drink. Look,
I don't know, but like I just twenty three first
downs for Avery Johnson in the past game in what
in four games? Twenty three? Some schools do that in
one game. I mean that's like your your air raids
or whatever. But like that, that one's tough to swallow.
(58:21):
Both of these teams are gonna supposed to fight for
the Big Twelve title and now they now the loser
of this game has to feel like they're in hell
for the rest of the season. This is a must win.
It's a must winning Week five.
Speaker 1 (58:34):
Okay, So this game is in men Manhattan, and because
the Big Twelve, you're gonna have to win the Big
Twelve to get into the College FOOTBA playoffs. They're only
gonna get one team in. I think it's clear at
this point and point in time that that's what's going
to happen, because the only team that looks like that
they can at least finish with one loss is oh
is Utah.
Speaker 2 (58:55):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (58:55):
That's the only team that looks like it's even possible
to finish with one or less losses.
Speaker 3 (59:00):
I'll counter with Iowa State so far. I know historically
we cannot depend on this team. Yeah, Iowa State so
far has done everything that you would expect a contender
to do so far.
Speaker 2 (59:16):
All right, So who are you taking Kansas State minus
four and a half.
Speaker 3 (59:24):
The only only game I lost last week was taking
Oklahoma State. And now I'm getting stubborn about it. I
I wanna, I want to go with them again. I'm
doing it. They have George, they have six six sixth
year offensive linemen. How can they not run block? Their
(59:45):
whole old line gets a a ARP letters in the
middle like they're I am.
Speaker 1 (59:51):
I am also going to take Oklahoma State because I
don't trust Kansas State. I think that they're gonna have turnovers,
not gonna be able to move move the ball in Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (59:59):
State at least can score. So give me.
Speaker 1 (01:00:03):
Oklahoma State, all right, Louisville at Notre Dame minus six,
and this is another home game, but this is a
ranked home game. Notre Dame only loses non ranked home
games ages NIU Marshall and a three to nine Stanford
team since Marcus Freeman has been there. Notre Dame cannot
(01:00:28):
throw the football, but they can run that thing. And
six points is a lot. Give me Louisville even if
Notre Dame wins.
Speaker 3 (01:00:39):
So is Notre Dame that's favored by six? Yes, somehow Louisville. Yeah,
they dropped over thirty points last week without really doing
anything on offense. They completed thirteen passes and had under
sixty yards rushing. If they can manufacture points without actually
(01:01:02):
that spells trouble for Notre Dame. So I think I
have to I think I have to ride with you
on this. If Notre Dame wins, I'm assuming it's going
to be a close game. They have not defended home
field well. And what Louville did last week, going over
thirty points without really doing anything offensively, really made me
feel like it if they make some adjustments that they
(01:01:23):
could do some serious damage.
Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
To nine is up to seven. Now it went from
six to seven.
Speaker 3 (01:01:31):
So people are putting money in on the Irish.
Speaker 1 (01:01:33):
Yes, gosh, I'm taking. I want Notre Dame to win,
but I don't think even if they do win that
this seven is is go happen.
Speaker 3 (01:01:44):
Give me, are you ready for the most psychotic stat
in all of college football? What's that? Riley Leonard? In
twenty twenty two in the regular season finale? Just twenty
twenty two. So two years ago he threw four touchdown pas. Okay,
since then, two hundred and ninety six pass attempts, four
(01:02:06):
touchdown passes.
Speaker 2 (01:02:10):
That's not good.
Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
Yeah, in fact, that's bad. So who are you takinglle.
Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
Louisville stopped the run and you win like it.
Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
If we lose this bet, I'm gonna be like, well,
I'm not a sucker, like I wasn't gonna Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:02:36):
All right, Ali Georgia minus two at Alabama. Let me
make sure that this line did not move. Nope, it
is steady as a cruise ship, buddy. Both of these
teams got a shot to make the College Football Playoff
because SEC is gonna get four teams in, just like
the Big Ten is gonna get four teams in likely,
so I just don't know. Like I don't trust the
(01:03:01):
Georgia offense like I did last year with Brock Bauers
and company. They don't look as explosive, you know, the
big plays. I think Beck's a good system quarterback. I
think he'll translate, Okay to the NFL like he feels
very Trevor Lawrence is to me NFL Trevor Lawrence, Like
(01:03:23):
that's what I think he's going to be, you know,
like he'll be cool, like you put a really good
team with Brown and he'll be all right.
Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
But he's not. I don't think he's a superhero.
Speaker 3 (01:03:33):
And he brought brockos Wiler.
Speaker 2 (01:03:38):
I think he's better than broncos Wiler.
Speaker 3 (01:03:39):
But Brock Oswiler might have better numbers than Trevor Lawrence.
If you take his last sixteen games. I'm gonna do
that as soon as we finish. I'm gonna take Brock's
last sixteen games and t Law's last sixteen games, put
him next to each other, and we'll see what happens.
Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
Yes, yeah, damn.
Speaker 1 (01:03:58):
So it's actually to it though, that we're seeing these
two brands play against each other in the regular season
because it's only happened once in the last over ten years,
so it's good to see it. Huge test for Kaitlin
de Boor huge test because he is a he's new
(01:04:18):
to Alabama. He's got to get in there and you know,
make people believe and give them confidence that they can
win this sort of game at home. Last year, the
biggest game that they had at home, they got there,
they got beat by Texas and now this is the
next one. And he he doesn't need to win this game,
(01:04:40):
but you want him to win this game. And I
actually think that they're going to win. I'm taking Alabama
plus two win this game because Jalen Milroe, I believe,
is going to be the difference, like the get winning
or losing is gonna be on his shoulders because he
can make plays and escape and do things that other
people cannot. And I don't think that. And I think
(01:05:03):
that Alabama's defense is good enough to force Georgia to
put it on Carson Beck's arm. And I just don't
think that they are talented enough on the outside or
can run the ball well enough against Alabama to be
able to put up enough points. Because Alabama's gonna put
up at least twenty four points.
Speaker 3 (01:05:23):
I think you're right. I have a question for you.
When was the last time Kalen Debor wasn't new to
a job. This man collects jobs like Leo DiCaprio collect's girlfriends.
Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
Like Jamaican I got many jobs mine.
Speaker 3 (01:05:38):
It's not if this is not. I highly doubt he's uncomfortable.
This is what he does. He comes in, he looks
at the ingredients you have, and he cooks you up
a five star meal like this is a big game.
These are probably the two best coaches in America. I'm
spooked a little bit by what I saw of Georgia
(01:05:59):
on road, and now that you know they both had
a lot of time to prepare for each other. I
think Alabama's gonna defend home field. It's not gonna be pretty,
but I think they'll defend home field. I do have
more faith in Jalen Milroe than I do Carson Beck,
though as prospects for the next level. I don't trust
either one of them totally. But yeah, yeah, why not
(01:06:21):
roll tide.
Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
Yep, yep.
Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
And Jalen Milroe I actually might trust him more because
i've seen Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (01:06:28):
True, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:06:30):
And I've seen justin justin fields, so you can win
with them.
Speaker 3 (01:06:35):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:06:36):
Illinois at Penn State minus seventeen. Oh my god, dude,
this feels like the second best layup of the week.
Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
The first layup of the week is.
Speaker 1 (01:06:50):
Minnesota at Michigan minus nine points. Oh no, no, minus
six points, maybe six or nine. I'm like, give me
Michigan all day because I will beat the hell out
of Minnesota not throwing the football. So what is Michigan
going to do to them? But that's a whole nother story,
all right, Illinois. Last year, their quarterback Luke Altmeyer had
(01:07:15):
his worst game of the season against Penn State. He's better,
he's older, not doing stupid stuff with the football. Penn
State struggled with the Bowling Green, and Penn State against
Bowling Green didn't throw the ball exceptionally well, they ran
(01:07:37):
the ball exceptionally well. And you're not just gonna line
up and run Illinois over this. Seventeen and a half
points feels like craziness to me.
Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
I am this feels like ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (01:07:50):
Give me Illinois plus seventeen and a half and do
not be surprised by an outright win.
Speaker 3 (01:08:00):
Well, so, here's the deal. Penn State didn't even cover
this spread last year when Altmyer threw four interceptions and
Drew so he gave Drew all her four extra possessions
and he didn't even throw a touchdown pass. And I
know how you feel about Drew Aller. He needs to
do something against the noteworthy defense. He hasn't yet. He
(01:08:22):
hasn't yet. Every time he goes up against a good defense,
he either doesn't throw a touchdown pass, he goes sub
one hundred yards, which happened twice toward the end of
last season.
Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
And Illinois's plus seven in turnovers, giving up less than
three hundred yards of offense per game. They did, they
put Nebraska in a choke hold. And Nebraska's got a
better quarterback than Benn State, and he's a true freshman.
So give me, dude. Drew Aller is gonna throw the
ball to Illinois probably.
Speaker 3 (01:08:50):
Twice as long as Luke Altmeyer isn't turning the ball over,
because I think he's like ten touchdowns to no intercept
at this point. If he's riding that hot hand, I'm
with you. I don't know about an outright win, but
I mean, Illinois man Illinois fans would be going nuts
if they were five and zero with wins at Lincoln
(01:09:11):
and in Happy Value, they be thinking, they be thinking CFP.
Speaker 2 (01:09:16):
Probably slow down.
Speaker 1 (01:09:17):
Well actually, actually, honestly, they could get in as that
fourth Big Ten team because they would have knocked off
Penn State, so they would be ahead of them. And
if they can finish ten and two mm hm, that'll.
Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
Be all right.
Speaker 3 (01:09:32):
Well I'm lost. We got we got four people on
the same or we got four games that were on
the same side of that almost never happens.
Speaker 1 (01:09:40):
Dude, because they got Michigan, Oregon and then the the
bottom of the Big Ten left Minnesota, Michigan State, Rutgers, and.
Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
Northwestern.
Speaker 1 (01:09:53):
So if they lose like Michigan and Oregon close and
beat Penn State, bro, they're they're to the College Football
Playoff as long as they don't do anything dumb in
the last four games.
Speaker 2 (01:10:07):
So yeah, so that's reason. So who are you taking?
Speaker 3 (01:10:11):
I'm with you. I'm with you on all four so far,
which I don't think has happened this year.
Speaker 2 (01:10:15):
Nope.
Speaker 1 (01:10:15):
Last game up Wisconsin at USC minus fifteen and a half.
Wisconsin and their backup quarterback because Tyler Van Dyke's out
for the year with a torn acl that happened in
the beginning of the Alabama game, which I think allowed
that game to get out of control. USC minus fifteen
and a half at home. After that heartbreaking loss against Michigan,
(01:10:39):
Bear Alexander, a rotational defensive lineman, is out and their
defensive line is not exactly deep, so losing a rotational
piece is gonna hurt. And Wisconsin looked at that with
that Michigan game and was like, listen, our quarterback can
throw the ball better than alex Orgy, but we can
(01:11:00):
run the ball. And they actually ran the ball pretty
decently I think against Alabama. So I am lining up
and I'm going to run the hell out of the
ball against USC and and but I'm not gonna because
D'Anton lynn is a good enough defensive coordinator that you're
not just gonna be able to just line up and
like Michigan did, because I think Michigan got a little
(01:11:21):
bit lucky too. But if you mix it up some
and just continue to run out of spreads and run
out of all sorts of formations and then pass the
ball some take a deep shot every now and then
just to keep them, honest, get a couple pass interference
calls or something, Bro, you will be in this game.
I'm actually gonna take Wisconsin at USC plus fifteen and
(01:11:42):
a half. It's it's a it's a it's a stretch
putting this much. Braydon Lock, Wisconsin's quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
He does have experience, he got to play last year, yep.
But he doesn't move. Yeah, and so I I'm worried
that D'Anton Lyne's gonna tee off on him. So I will.
That'll be the one game that I depart from. You
give me the Trojans. A minus fifteen and a half
(01:12:15):
is a lot, but I'm maybe a seventeen point win here,
and then you gotta pick you gotta pick one more.
You gotta pick one more. You gonna go with that?
Speaker 2 (01:12:24):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
Yes, yes, easy, easy work, easy work Michigan all day?
Uh what what?
Speaker 2 (01:12:32):
What the hell? They do?
Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
Go for the show their teeth, Clay.
Speaker 2 (01:12:42):
Hey, I'm gonna call.
Speaker 1 (01:12:43):
Him or or would just call them the cheetahs. That's
what I'm gonna call them, the cheatahs, the Michigan Cheetahs.
Speaker 2 (01:12:52):
But I'm in. I'm in with them boys.
Speaker 1 (01:12:54):
Hey, a yo, Dave, how led your boy, I got
an eighth grader and might might have a kid in
the portal in the a couple of years.
Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
You never know.
Speaker 3 (01:13:03):
I told you, man, I told you, I'm I'm I
got a I got an eleven year old that's never
played football in his life. We're gonna see if he
can throw today.
Speaker 2 (01:13:13):
Hey man, it is what it is.
Speaker 3 (01:13:15):
But on one throw, everybody knows the rules.
Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:13:19):
All right.
Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
So yeah, so I'm taking Michigan in that football game.
I'll be at the Oregon at u c L A game.
Speaker 3 (01:13:28):
I love it. I was saying, I love that. I
love the organ is gonna get to play. They don't
play a lot of night games. Pack twelve after Dark,
I am.
Speaker 2 (01:13:38):
It scared me.
Speaker 1 (01:13:39):
I tried to warn Miami fans about this for next
week and we'll we'll talk about it next week because
they play Cow at Cow at an eight o'clock kick,
and I'm like, listen, They're like, oh, it ain't no
big deal. I was like, listen, you don't understand Pac
twelve after Dark, Bro, you do not understand how this works.
Weird results happen, and I'm nervous. Oregon is a twenty
(01:14:03):
four point favorite. I don't have any faith that they'll lose.
But it's Pack twelve after dark, Big ten after dark. Now,
maybe maybe weird things don't happen Big ten alfter.
Speaker 3 (01:14:16):
What if we get high school Ethan Garber's who threw
seventy five touchdowns in one year. What if what if
we just get an appearance of the of the old
Because that was about how long it took Jaden Daniels
to start looking like he looked at Cajona High School.
Maybe this is where he unlocks it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:33):
Oh everybody, no, no, try try next week.
Speaker 1 (01:14:36):
Everybody knows I like Deshaun Foster, but nah, bro, they
we need to stuff them at a locker.
Speaker 3 (01:14:43):
Like is this a house divided? Game? Is? Is your
wife going in team colors? You going in team colors?
Speaker 1 (01:14:49):
She's absolutely good, she said today, I'm wearing my U
say La gear. I was like, listen, listen, you could
you either you can roll with the winners or you
can roll with the losers. And she was like, I'm
just not that type of chick to abandon my team
just because we might struggle.
Speaker 3 (01:15:07):
I was like, I appreciate that, though, because my wife
and I went to the same school and every time
they lose, she's like, what happened to your team? And
when when they win, she's like, we did it.
Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
Yeah, Hey, that's the natural inclination of people. We won,
they lost.
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
I don't get to do that exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:15:30):
