Crime Alart hourly update, breaking crime news. Now, I'm Nicole Parton.
Brian Kohlberger is expected to spend the rest of his
life at the Idaho Maximum Security Prison following his guilty
plea to four counts of murder. The Criminology PhD candidate
reached an agreement with prosecutors admitting to the murders of
Ethan Chapin, Kayla Consalves, Xana Kernodle, and Madison Mogan, who

(00:24):
were killed in their home while they slept in November
twenty twenty two. Are you pleading guilty because you are guilty? Yes.
This plea deal allows him to evade the death penalty,
resulting in a life sentence without the possibility of parole
or appeal. Following his sentencing hearing on July twenty three,
he has anticipated to be moved from the facility in

(00:46):
Ada County Jail to the Idaho Maximum Security Institution. Established
in nineteen eighty nine, this prison houses the state's most
problematic male inmates and violent offenders. According to its official website,
it features a double perimeter fence fortified with razor wire
and an electronic detection system, alongside twenty four hour armed

(01:08):
patrol to prevent escapes. The facility has a capacity of
five hundred and forty nine inmates, including a specific area
for those with mental health issues. It provides restrictive housing,
disciplinary detention, and serves as the state's death row location.
Located in Cuna, Idaho, within the Boise metropolitan area, it

(01:28):
is approximately a six hour flight from Coberger's family, who
resides in Pennsylvania. Among the infamous inmates on death row
at the facility is Chad Daybell, a triple murderer who
killed his first wife, Tammy, as well as two children
of his second wife, Laurie Vallo. The family of Consalvus
has expressed their distress over Coberger's plea deal, fearing he

(01:51):
may exploit his crime by writing a book or discussing
the tragic stabbings publicly now that he has avoided execution.
Haley's father, Steve, voiced his concerns, saying we have the
killer who wants a show, and they just gave him one.
Last week, Coberger's legal team reached out to prosecutors about
a plea deal as their defense strategy, which included claims

(02:14):
of an alternate perpetrator, began to unravel. During his plea
hearing on Wednesday, he responded calmly firmly acknowledging his involvement
in the murders. Investigators alleged that Coburger entered the off
campus residence and fatally stabbed Mogan and Consolvus before proceeding
to kill Kernodle and Chapin. When law enforcement searched his

(02:35):
apartment and office, they found them thoroughly cleaned, and his
vehicle had pretty much been disassembled internally, they said. Additionally,
Coburger altered his vehicle registration to Washington State following the murders.
FBI agents connected him to the crimes by collecting DNA
samples from trash outside his parents' home in Pennsylvania, where

(02:56):
he was living at the time. They established that da
found on a Q tip matched that of the father
of the individual whose DNA was present on the knife
sheath discovered at the scene. The defendant has studied crime
Thompson informed the court he even wrote an in depth
paper on crime scene processing while pursuing his PhD, equipping

(03:18):
him with the knowledge and skill set to the crime.
Judge Stephen Hippler accepted Coburger's please scheduling the sentencing for
Aida County Court on July twenty three at nine am
local time. He also announced that the trial would be
canceled and those summoned for jury duty would be informed
they are no longer needed or required to complete court documents.

(03:41):
