A jury has delivered a swift and decisive verdict in
favor of Cardi B during a trial concerning a lawsuit
filed by a security guard who claimed the rapper assaulted
her at a doctor's office while she was pregnant. The
proceedings took place in a small courthouse in California, where

(00:22):
the jury deliberated for just about an hour before concluding
that Carti was not responsible for the allegations made by
Imani Ellis. Ellis had accused Cardi B of scratching her
face with a nail and spitting on her in the
hallway of a Beverly Hills obgyn office in February twenty eighteen.

(00:43):
Carti testified that her pregnancy was not known to the
public at that time, and she feared that Ellis might
disclose it. Although she admitted to having an argument with Ellis,
she insisted that she never escalated that to a physical altercation.
Her testimony, which was broadcast live over two days last week,
garnered significant attention. After a brief recess, the trial resumed

(01:07):
on Tuesday with closing arguments and the jury receiving the case.
In the early afternoon, after the verdict was handed down,
Cardi B spoke to reporters.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
I'm not even playing around, even if I'm in my deathbed,
I swear to God, I will say it in my
death bed. I did not touch that woman. I did
not touch that girl. I didn't lay my hands on
that girl. And with that being said, with that being said,
this time around, I'm gonna be nice. The next person

(01:39):
to try to do a frivolous lawsuit against me, I'm
going to counter sooon and I'm gonna make you pay
because this is not okay. I think people have like
this misinterpretations of celebrities like I said, oh well, we
could ask for this and they're gonna settle. You don't
work at home, and you don't work all day, and
you don't work for your money give out your money.

(02:01):
So don't ever think that I'm just gonna give you
my money that I work hard for. I don't lay
in bed all day. I work all day, and I
work hard for my money, for my kids and for
people I take care of. So don't you ever think
that you're gonna sue me and I'm just gonna settle
and I am not that select that you're gonna sue.
And you think it's gonna settle, I'm not gonna settle.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
According to Carti, she was in Los Angeles for promotional
activities during February twenty eighteen, coinciding with that year's NBA
All Star Game, and she was four months pregnant with
her first child with Rapper Offset. While she had confided
to her close friends about her pregnancy, she had not
shared the news with the public or her parents, and

(02:42):
the OBGYNS office was closed to other patients that Saturday
to ensure her privacy. Carti recounted that Ellis, who worked
as a security guard in the building, followed her to
an appointment on the fifth floor. During her testimony, Carti
claimed she overheard Ellis mention her name into a phone
and suspected that she was filming her. I ask her,

(03:05):
why are you recording, Carti said in court, to which
Ellis responded, oh, my bad, seemingly apologetic. However, the confrontation intensified,
according to Carti, as we argued she was backing me up,
walking toward me, Carti explained. In contrast, Ellis testified that
the encounter left her feeling humiliated and traumatized, resulting in

(03:28):
a scar on her face that required cosmetic surgery. Ellis,
who claimed she lost her job due to the incident,
sought damages for medical cost, emotional and physical suffering, lost wages,
and punitive damages. Though she did not specify an exact
amount in the lawsuit, Carti noted from the witness stand
that Ellis was quote suing me for twenty four million dollars.
