I'm Nicole parton trial update in the case against Richard Allen.
Thursday's testimony wrapped up with state witness twenty five. Number
twenty five was Tony Liggett. He is the Carroll County Sheriff.
He was questioned by prosecuting attorney Nicholas mcleland in September
of twenty twenty two. He reviewed the tip found by
(00:25):
Kathy Shank regarding Allan. He said, quote it stuck out.
I wasn't aware anyone had seen three girls on the
trail that day. We believed it was Bridge guy, said Liggott.
Liggott learned Allen owned a twenty sixteen Ford Focus and
a two thousand and six Ford five hundred. He found
that Allan worked at a CVS drug store in Delphi.
(00:48):
Liggott said he took pictures of Allan's car parked at
that drug store. He found it interesting that the vehicle
was backed into the parking spot at the CVS, also
observing the car into the DCS building lot as well.
Ligott shared Allan's timeline of events from February thirteen, twenty seventeen.
(01:09):
Allan told investigators, he visited his mother that day, parked
at the DCS lot that he had been on the
Monon High Bridge trails from twelve pm until one thirty
pm that day. He said he passed three girls on
the bridge and said if he was going out of
town he would normally drive his Ford Focus because it
(01:29):
was a more reliable car. Ligott believed Allan's comment about
where he parked and his timeline was wishy washy, he said.
During the defensi's cross examination, attorney Baldwin inquired of Liggott
whether he was a candidate for the sheriff. Ligott confirmed
with a simple yes. Baldwin proceeded to inquire about the
(01:51):
potential rays Liggot would receive if he were to win
the election. Liggott stated that it would be a fifty
thousand dollars increase. Further questioning from Baldwin revolved around whether
an arrest would impact Liggott's chance of winning the election.
Liggot's response was clear, quote this is not about me,
It's about two young girls. In quote Sheriff Liggett disclosed
(02:15):
his awareness that there had been a breach of information
regarding the crime scene. At some point, the defense maintained
that no surveillance footage showed Allen walking in the area
where his car was parked. Sheriff Liggett expressed his belief
that Allan was acting alone in the case. When asked
about any digital evidence connecting Richard Allen to the crime
(02:37):
scene among the thousands of pieces, Liggett replied in the negative.
Later that evening, two more witnesses were called to testify.
ISP detective David Veto was involved in the search of
Allen's residence in October. He captured images of the house,
including that ford focus parked outside during the search, nearly
(02:58):
thirty knives and four where box cutters were seized from
the premises. The defense probed Veto about the commonality of
hunters and fishermen owning knives, to which he agreed it
was not unusual. Veto confirmed that testing was conducted on
the jacket, car and knives found, but no evidence leaked
them to the crime scene. Notably, underwear and socks missing
(03:23):
from the crime scene were not discovered at Allen's residence.
