I'm Drew Nelson. A father in California is gunned down
protecting his sons during a shooting at a barber shop,
leaving behind a shocked community and a grieving family. Jean
Pierre Kintero, aged forty four, was shot and killed April
nineteenth outside los Villejones barber shop in Fresno. He had
taken his two sons, ages five and eleven, to get
haircuts ahead of Easter. The family had planned to attend

(00:25):
a wedding the next day. Pelis say the gunman, later
identified as eighteen year old Kobe Chanda wrong Sea, opened
fire from a barber's chair after an argument with other patrons.
The assailant actually left the business itself, and as he
left the business on foot, he continued to fire at
those individuals in the parking lot. Two of the victims,

(00:46):
ages seventeen and twenty, were believed to be the intended targets.
King Taro was not involved in the fight. He was
hid in the crossfire while trying to shield his sons.
King Taro died at the hospital. The other two victims
were treated and released. His son's witnessed the entire scene,
one dropping to his knees beside his father's body as
te lutimo momento for protectors. That's his wife, Gabriela on

(01:14):
KFSN in English, she says, quote, until his last moment,
he was the protector. He would always say, if I
had to give my life for my family, I would.
That's exactly what he did. He died protecting his kids.
Quintero had come to the States from Venezuela with his
family to escape violence and political unrest. The family was
granted emergency humanitarian parole two years ago and settled in Fresno.

(01:37):
Police arrested Chantharongsi on Saturday. He was also linked to
a separate shooting the day before the barbershop attack. Another man,
Adrian Echevaria, was arrested as an accessory. Both remain in custody.
Gabriella said her husband would have asked God to forgive
the shooter quote, I don't feel hate towards that person.
A GoFundMe campaign for the family has raised over ten

(01:58):
thousand dollars toward its eleven thousand goal. His neighbor Nancy,
says she will miss Jean Pierre.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
I think they model for us what we want to
see in immigrants. Jean Pierre is a hard worker. He
cares deeply for his family and the community around him.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
More crime and justice news after this, a woman in
Florida is charged with sexually abusing a boy she met
at a funeral, with police uncovering messages showing the two
tried to hide the truth. Deputies arrested a twenty year
old Isla Gonzalez Selenas on Monday in Palm Beach County.

(02:36):
She faces seven felony counts of leude or lascivius battery.
The victim, whose exact age is redacted from the police report,
is believed to be somewhere between twelve and sixteen. According
to investigators, Selenas met the boy in November at the
funeral and began messaging each other on social media. Police
said the relationship turned sexual the following month. They alleged

(02:56):
the two met up several times in December and had
sex on more than one occasion. By January, someone alerted
law enforcement. Detectives then found text messages between Selenas and
the boy. In those texts, the two talked about getting
their story straight. They planned to say the boy had
initiated the relationship and agreed on how many times they
had met. Selenus was booked into the county jail and

(03:17):
posted bond and was released before dawn yesterday morning. Under
Florida law, someone who engages in sexual activity with a
child ages twelve to sixteen can face second degree felony charges,
even if the child claims to have given consent. A
man in Hawaii disappears after telling his family he planned
to die there, and his case remains unsolved twenty eight

California to Honolulu on August fifth. He told his sister
he imagined dying in Hawaii. His family feared he was suicidal.
Branston had schizophrenia and had stopped taking his medication. He
also struggled with drug use and depression. He was from Lakeport, California.

(03:59):
When he arrived in Hawaii, he was homeless and was
living near the airport. He opened a bank account and
arranged to have his social Security checks sent there. He
also rented a locker at high packed self storage inside
where his ID medication and extra clothes. He deposited his
benefit checks for August and September. A bank teller later
reported seeing him trying to cash another check in October

on the island of Molokai. He didn't have his ID,
so he was turned away. His parents reported him missing
on October fifth. The storage complex called Branston's family in
November when he stopped paying for his locker. His parents
kept watching his bank account for a year. No money
ever came in or out again. There were reported sightings
of Branston in Owaihu, Molokai, and Kawaii up through June

seen again. Branston was six feet one seventy long, brown hair,
blue eyes, and may have had a light brown beard.
He often wore a tied die scarf headband. Today he
would be forty nine. His family holds out hope that
he is a lot and just doesn't know who he is.
