I'm Drew Nelson. A poor hero on Michigan father stands
accused of shooting three of his children in their home,
killing one and leaving two others critically wounded on the
day he was expected to be sentenced for indecent exposure.
Police said the shooting happened early on September eleventh inside
an apartment on glen View Court. A seventeen year old
boy identified as Caleb Smurr was found dead at the scene.

His younger siblings, thirteen year old Mentley and twelve year
old Kinsley, were found alive but gravely injured. Bentley suffered
facial fractures and Kinsley was left paralyzed from the shoulders down.
Officer b Daily testified that when police arrived, they found
Kinsley lying halfway in a hallway and bedroom.

Outside Day found Bentley sitting on a curb next to
his mother, Brandy, who told him her son had been
pistol whipped. When a medic moved Bentley's hair aside, Daily
said that's when they saw a gunshot entry wound on
the left side of his face. Detective Grafton Sharp testified
that the children's father, forty four year old Jeffrey Smurr,

confessed to the shooting. Sharp said Smurr told him he
had retrieved his three eighty handgun from a safe under
his bed, gone into his children's rooms, and fired.

he stated he aimed at the cell phone and fired.
That would be Bentley's phone, He said. Smur admitted that
he aimed at Kinsley's throat and at Caleb's head, killing
him instantly. Sharp testified that smur told him he had
planned the shooting for about a week. Police said Smurr's
wife and oldest son, Aiden, managed to disarm him before

more shots were fired. Poor Huron Police said in a
written statement, quote, this incident is a tremendous tragedy. We
send our heartfelt gratitude to the first responders who, without
hesitation and at significant personal risk, entered their residence, apprehended
the suspect and immediately provided life saving medical care. Smurr
was arrested at the scene and later charged with ten felonies,

including open murder, assault with intent to murder, and first
degree child abuse. He's being held without bond at the
Saint Clair County Jail. A GoFundMe created by relatives has
raised more than seventy three thousand dollars toward a goal
of one hundred and fifty k to help the surviving
children and their mother with medical bills, a funeral, and

baul A Renois, age fifty one, received a forty five
month prison sentence after being convicted did of two counts
of forced labor, one count of harboring an alien for
financial gain, and two counts of document servitude. She was

Federal prosecutors say Bullerinwa, who was a US citizen originally
from Nigeria, brought two women into the United States between
twenty fifteen and twenty sixteen and forced them to work
as housekeepers and nannies under constant threat and control. She

took their passports, isolated them from others, and kept them
under near round the clock surveillance. One of the women
endured repeated verbal and physical abuse, the other was threatened
with harm to her child if she disobeyed. Both women
remained trapped in the house until the second victim confided
in a college professor, who reported it to the FBI.
US attorney Elena Hobbas says the sentence quote vindicates the

rights of two vulnerable women who the defendant subjected to
grueling hours and coercive abuse in her home. The indictment
also named bullerin was husband Isiaka, who was convicted on
related charges for bess beefitting from the victim's labor. Both
victims were freed in October twenty sixteen after the FBI
opened an investigation. Billy ol Lemir Hammett, age eighteen, was

last seen leaving his home on Poole Court in Beloit, Wisconsin,
on August sixth of twenty eleven. He did not own
a car and had called friends to ask for a ride.
When one friend declined, another in a black vehicle arrived
to pick him up. No one recognized the car or
its driver. That was the last time anyone saw him.
Hammett's mother thought at first he may have been detained
by his parole officer, but several days with no word,

she reported him missing. On August twelfth, police began searching
the area and interviewing his friends. Detectives said the case
is unlike any other they have handled because Hammett just
simply vanished without a phone, car, or bank account. Police
records show he had a past record for burglary, theft,
and drug possession, but friends and family said he had
turned his life around. He had recently earned his ged

been accepted to the Madison Media Institute and was preparing
to study music, already recorded an album that sold hundreds
of copies in the Beloit area. Hammett's friends, who knew
him by the nickname Ko, released a tribute album in
his honor and said they still hope he will come home.
