Speaker 1 (00:00):
Crime Alert hourly update breaking crime thews Now. I'm Drew Nelson.
A teenager from Minnesota is found decapitated in a landfill
after several weeks, and now his father is charged with
second degree murder. In this case, sixteen year old Jordan
Manny Collins Junior was last heard from on May eighth.
He'd been living with his father in Columbia Heights. That day,
his mother got a text from him around four am
(00:22):
and never heard from him again. Jordan Colin Senior told
Manny's mother the boy had left to visit his grandmother
and his girlfriend in Saint Paul. Four days later, he
gave the same story to police. He left from my
house with his dad. His dad picked him up from
my house and took him to Columbia Hi. Mary Barry,
Manny's great grandmother, told KSTP that on the morning of
(00:43):
the eighth, Manny's dad, Jordan Colin Senior, called and said
that Manny was on his way and I'm like, where
is Mannie? He said, I put him on the bus
to come to your house. Well, I was believing on it.
Then I called them back. I'm like, where's the bus
stop located at? He was like we's riding from, but
when investigators spoke with the girlfriend, she said she had
last spoken to Manny over a video call, and she
(01:05):
said he hadn't mentioned coming to visit her and didn't
seem upset. On May fifteenth, police searched Colin Senior's apartment.
They found blood stained garbage bags in a closet. They
also found several large butcher knives and hunting knives. A
mattress and a section of carpet were missing. DNA tests
confirmed the blood belonged to Manny. Video from May thirteenth
(01:26):
showed a garbage truck emptying a dumpster behind the apartment.
Waste management records helped investigators trace the contents to the
Elk River landfill. After nearly a month of digging through
debris in the space of a football field, searchers found
human remains on June twenty eighth. The remains were later
confirmed to be Manny's. An autopsy showed he had been
decapitated with a knife. Police arrested Colin Senior on Monday.
(01:49):
Prosecutors said he had a large amount of cash and
appeared to be preparing to flee the state. He was
charged with second degree murder two days later, with bail
set at two million dollars. Mary Berry said she suspected
something was wrong after Manny disappeared. His mother, Ashley Berry,
created a GoFundMe to help her stay afloat while searching
for her son. She wrote, quote, every moment of every
(02:10):
day has been focused on finding him, talking to authorities,
sharing his story, posting flyers, and following every lead possible.
My heart is breaking, but I refuse to stop looking.
The fundraiser reached nearly twenty five thousand dollars by the
time Colin Senior was charged. On Wednesday, community members held
a benefit in Saint Paul to support the family. Through tears,
(02:30):
Ashley Barry told them quote, thank you is not enough.
At Colin Senior's first court appearance, prosecutors said they will
pursue an aggravated sentence. They argued that he had a
position of authority over his son and treated him with
quote particular cruelty. The next hearing is scheduled for August fourth.
Police have not shared a possible motive. Mannie's family says
they just want answers and justice. Mary Barry saying through
(02:52):
prayer she has forgiven Manny's Dad. More crime and justice
news after this. David Vernon Lovely disappeared on August fifth
of nineteen eighty five while riding a maroon nineteen seventy
eight Yamaha motorcycle along Interstate eighty in Wyoming. He left
(03:15):
Salt Lake City that morning with his mother and sister,
who were driving a rider truck toward Massachusetts, relocating across
the country. The plan was to check in with each
other every thirty miles. At a stop in Evanston, Wyoming.
David told his family he wanted to keep going. They
agreed to meet again farther east. Later that day, David
called his aunt in Massachusetts. He said the motorcycle had
(03:36):
broken down near Fort Bridger and that he had pushed
it to the Mingo truck stop. He told her a
rough looking man on a Harley had fixed it. David
said he had felt afraid of the man. That was
the last anyone heard from him. Nine days later, campers
found David's motorcycle abandoned on a dirt road off Middle
Baxter Road, just west of the airport near Rock Springs.
The keys were still in the ignition. It had half
(03:58):
a tank of gas. The helmet and back were right there.
His wallet, about one hundred and fifty dollars cash and
a bag of coins were still inside. The spot where
the motorcycle was found was isolated. The surrounding desert very rugged,
filled with ravines and gullies. Search crews on foot and
ATVs found no trace of David. Heavy storms passed through
(04:18):
the area in the days before, possibly washing away any evidence.
Investigators found no damage to the motorcycle. It had not
broken down, there were no signs of a crash. This
led to two theories. One David rode to that spot
and left the bike there, possibly planning to return, or two,
someone else left it there after something happened to him.
A witness later said around August eighth or ninth, a
(04:40):
person with long hair was seen riding away from the
area on a turquoise motorcycle. That person was never identified.
David was last seen wearing a red nylon windbreaker, a
green army jacket, a white pullover or polo shirt, brown
cotton pants, and sneakers. He was six four one sixty,
white with brown hairs and dark blonde hair. He had
(05:01):
large surgical scars across his stomach. He'd be fifty nine today.
