Speaker 2 (00:03):
I'm Drew Nelson. A four year old boy who vanished
on New Year's even rural Alabama, is believed to have
died of hypothermia. After a massive search that drew hundreds
of volunteers and stunned the entire community of Walker County,
authorities confirmed the body of Jonathan Everett Bowley, known to
his family as John John, was found last Friday in
the woods about two miles from his father's home off

(00:25):
Highway one ninety five in Jasper. Walker County Sheriff Nick
Smith says the boy's dog, Buck, was found alive beside him.
This was a volunteer group of volunteers that were assigned
to certain section to search, and during their search.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
They recovered John John.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Jonathan was last seen around eleven thirty am December thirty first,
walking toward the woods with his older brother and the dog.
His brother later told investigators he saw Jonathan go under
a fence near the tree line and went to go
tell their father. A missing child report was made shortly after.
The search effort stretched across rugged terrain in Walker County

(01:04):
and included law enforcement K nine drones, aircraft and volunteers
from across Alabama. The search was complicated when deputies discovered
explosive materials inside the home of Jonathan's father, Jamison Kyle Bowley,
forcing officers to suspend the search at the location until
the scene was secured. Jamison Bowley, aged forty, was arrested

(01:25):
on charges unrelated to his son's death, including unlawful manufacturing
of a destructive device and two counts of chemical endangerment
of a child. Authorities have stressed those charges are not
connected to Jonathan's disappearance or death. Our colleague Joseph Scott Morgan,
a distinguished scholar of forensic investigations at Jacksonville State University

(01:45):
in Alabama and the host of our sister podcast, Body Bags,
with Joseph Scott Morgan, speaking with WBMA about how loyal
the dog must have been to John.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
John, the dog is obviously attached to the child, and yes,
I have both. In Atlanta, New Orleans, where I worked,
I've seen animals sit right by their masters, you know,
when we would and they would have to be removed
by the local SPCA or whoever it was at that
particular time to take them away from their masters. Incredibly

(02:18):
loyal and no, no, that does not surprise me at all.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Preliminary autopsy findings released by Walker County corner Joey Vic
indicate Jonathan likely died of hypothermia. Officials said there were
no signs of trauma or assault, and investigators believe the
child died the night he went missing. Toxicology results are pending.
Jonathan's mother, Angel Bodley, returned to Alabama from Florida shortly

(02:44):
after her son disappeared and has cooperated with authorities. The
parents were separated at the time of the incident. As
the investigation continues, Walker County has rallied around the family.
Blue ribbons line mailboxes and storefronts. Memorial events are underway
and donations are raised in Jonathan's memory to support first
responders and search and rescue teams who worked tirelessly to

(03:06):
find him. More crime and justice news after this, A
man armed with a screwdriver allegedly steals a thirty nine
thousand pounds front end loader from a Nevada construction site
and tries to run down cops before ramming two patrol cars.

(03:26):
Officers with the Henderson Police Department were called to a
secured construction site near North Water Street just after nine
am Sunday, after a security worker reported a man jumping
a fence and attempting to hot wire heavy equipment. The
suspect later identified as Juan ring Cone Correno, aged thirty three.
The security guard on scene told nine to one to
one dispatchers the suspect threatened to kill her whilst holding

(03:48):
a screwdriver with a six to seven inch shank. Police
say Correno then took control of a two thousand and
seven Kawasaki front end loader, smashed through a fence and
drove toward the street. Here's the play I play from
the security guard on the line with nine to one one.
He tuned still a both those of right now. I
tried to him off the top beast. He started to
kill me and had a bason on him as well,

(04:11):
which was a message guy and the bullstos right now
and wanted to pull up by now and yes he
got the goot, ran over the flee.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Yes. Officer Megan Jacobs arrived first and ordered Kreino to stop.
Police say he ignored commands and drove the front end
loader directly at her and her patrol vehicle. Body warned.
Camera footage captures Jacob's warning that the machine was coming
straight at her as she tried to get out of

(04:45):
the way. Jacobs fired five rounds, but investigators Saikarno kept advancing.
Sergeant Lance Jaworski then arrived, got out of his vehicle
and was also targeted. When Corrino turned the front end
loader toward him and rammed both patrols cars, Jowarski fired
four rounds. The damaged patrol vehicles became lodged beneath the

(05:05):
front loader, bringing it to a stop. Officers repeatedly ordered
Carreno to exit the machine in both English and Spanish.
When he refused, officers climbed up there and pulled him out.
During the struggle, Correno and the two officers fell roughly
seven feet to the ground. The officers were taken to
the hospital with non life threatening injuries. Correno was shot
in the arm and leg and was hospitalized with non

(05:28):
life threatening wounds. Police say he was carrying a shoe
box filled with incoherent writings that included notes indicating he
was possibly suicidal. Correno now faces two counts of attempted
murder resisting a public officer with a deadly weapon, grand
larceny of a motor vehicle, and multiple property damage charges.
