Speaker 1 (00:00):
Crime Lord hourly update, breaking crime news Now, I'm Dave mac.
Sandra Phelps is a seventy four year old great grandmother
who has beaten cancer five times. She's enjoying the Christmas
festivities with her family, holding a child while sitting on
her porch at her home in Comanche, Oklahoma. Christmas afternoon,

(00:20):
the family hears several gun shots and Phelps remarks that
someone nearby must have gotten a new gun for Christmas.
Is just before three point fifteen PM when Sandra Phelps
cries out in pain and collapses on the porch. First
responders pronounced Phelps dead at the scene, and investigators determine
a bullet went through Phelps' right arm and traveled into

(00:42):
her chest cavity. Family members tell investigators about the five
to seven shots they heard prior to the matriarch of
the family, called Nanny, was hitting. Police begin to canvas
to the neighborhood, where they learned about one neighbor who
had been shooting a gun. Thirty three year old Cody
Wayne Adams. Adams home is less a mile away from
where Sandra Phelps was shot. When deputies go to Adam's home,

(01:04):
he tells them he's been firing his clock forty five
caliber handgun that he bought for himself as a Christmas gift.
Adams tells investigators he was shooting at a can laying
on the ground in his backyard. Deputies find several spent
shell casings on the ground in Adams's backyard. The affidavit
says from the point where Adams said he was shooting

(01:25):
toward the can, red and blue lights of emergency vehicles
at the home where Phelps was shot were visibly in
line with the shooting angle. When informed his shooting might
have caused the death of Sandra Phelps, Adams becomes visibly
upset and begins to cry. A deputy tells Adams there

(01:45):
was nothing behind his property to stop any bullets from
traveling beyond his property and hurting someone. After being read
his rights, Adams is interviewed at the Sheriff's office, where
he admits to firing multiple rounds southward from his residence.
The charging document alleges Adams caused phelps death by using
a firearm in a way that created a situation of

(02:07):
unreasonable risk and probability of death or great bodily harm
to another person and demonstrated a conscious disregard for the
safety of others. Sandra Phelps was known affectionately as Nanny
to her grandchildren, who range in age from eleven to
thirty nine, and to her great grandchildren, whose ages span

(02:29):
from just seven months old to twenty one years old.
Cody Adams was charged with first degree manslaughter. He appeared
in court and was released on one hundred thousand dollars bond.
He has been ordered to not contact the victim's family,
and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for February. More crime
and Justice news. Next, in an to the shocking murders

(03:01):
of Robin Michelle Reiner, police reveal Nick Reiner's testimony, saying
he is not mentally ill and admits to killing his parents.
During a recorded interrogation, Nick Reiner denies being mentally ill
and explicitly admits to killing both of his parents, insisting
his actions were deliberate and calculated, not the result of

(03:23):
psychosis or emotional instability. Nick Reiner tells detectives quote, I
am not sick. I knew exactly what I was doing.
What has stunned investigators most is the reason Nick gives
for the murders. Please say Reiner claims his parents were
quote about to expose something that would destroy everyone, and

(03:44):
killing them was, in his words, the only way to
stop what was coming. Authorities are not specifying what Reiner
is alleging his parents were planning to reveal, saying the
claim remains unverified and may form the basis of additional
charges have proven false. A senior investigator says this was
not rage, this was intent. Psychological screenings conducted after Nick

(04:08):
Reiner's arrest reportedly found no evidence of delusions, hallucinations, or
impaired reality, testing of finding that complicates potential legal defenses.
Medical experts consulted by the police described Reiner as oriented
and coherent, aware of consequences, emotionally controlled during questioning. A

(04:28):
forensic psychologist says that combination is rare in family annihilation cases.
Police also say the evidence aligns with Reiner's confession. Nick
Reiner's account matches key physical evidence, including CCTV footage showing
his movements before and after the incident, digital records indicating premeditation,

(04:52):
the absence of forced entry or struggle consisting with a
planned attack. Investigators in Phant size that the confession was
voluntary and legally obtained. Neighbors described the family as quiet
and private, with no prior reports of violence. Many expressed
disbelief after learning police do not believe minilllalness played a role.

(05:15):
What happens next, though, is prosecutors are reviewing whether to
pursue first degree murder charges with special circumstances, which could
carry the harshest possible sentence under state law. Police warned
that additional details from the testimony may be released in
the coming days as the case moves towards court. For investigators,
one conclusion is already clear. Though. This wasn't madness. It

(05:39):
was a decision, and that's what makes it terrifying. For
