Speaker 1 (00:00):
Crime Alart hourly update breaking crime news Now, I'm nicol Parton.
Authorities announced on Tuesday that a sixteen year old boy
from the Twin Cities who had been missing since early May,
has been found dead. Jordan Dupree Collins, Junior, affectionately known
as Manny, was found on Saturday after extensive searches of
(00:20):
the Waste Management landfill in Elk River. According to the
Anoka County Sheriff Brad Wise, an autopsy has been performed,
but the specific cause of Manny's death remains undetermined. As
stated by the Columbia Heights Police Chief Matt Markham, this
is an immense loss for our community. Markham expressed. Collins
(00:41):
was last seen on May eighth in the vicinity of
the forty nine hundred block of the University Avenue Northeast
in Columbia Heights. He had been residing in an apartment
with his father since mid April, according to his mother.
The search efforts shifted to a landfill on June four
after investigators received information leading them to a video that
(01:02):
indicated evidence suggesting that Manny's body may have been discarded
in a dumpster and subsequently picked up by the garbage truck.
Sheriff Wise noted that hundreds of searchers from thirty different
agencies meticulously scoured the landfill, focusing on an area approximately
the size of a football field and about four feet deep.
(01:24):
Thanks to waste Management's geo fencing of the waste process
in the landfill, authorities were able to narrow down their
search area. It's a sobering experience to work in a
landfill only to uncover someone else's child. Wise remarked. The
remains were determined to have originated from a dumpster in
Columbia Heights, and it is believed that Manny may have
(01:46):
died somewhere between May eighth and May thirteen. The sheriff
has also mentioned that there is a person of interest
in the case, although he refrained from disclosing their identity.
I want the public to be assured that the investigation
is ongoing. We are committed to pursuing justice for Manny's mother.
Colin's great grandmother, Mary Barry, struggled to hold back the
(02:07):
tears as she was faced with one of the most
difficult days in her life. I know we must stay strong,
she said. We must stay strong, but it is hard.
The family is united in their desire for justice. Barry
expressed gratitude for the community's support, urging continued prayers for
her family. His mother is taking this very hard. She's
(02:28):
keeping the faith, but please pray for her, said Mannie's grandmother.
Anyone with further information regarding Mannie's death is encouraged to
reach out to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension call
nine to one one immediately. Authorities say crew's return to
the landfill on Tuesday afternoon to search for additional evidence
related to Colin's death. The FBI is also assisting in
(02:51):
the investigation, alongside the previously mentioned agencies or crime in
Justice news after this and now to a bit of
good news. A resident of Newport, Tennessee emerged as a
local hero this past weekend after locating a lost boy
(03:11):
on his property. The incident took place in the Bryant
Toown area, where four year old Jojo went missing on
Saturday night. It was an incredible moment, remarked Rick mcmannon. Honestly,
I don't even know how to describe it. It was
just wonderful. Jojo had been missing for nearly two hours
when McMahon discovered him on the fringes of his property.
(03:34):
There were drones flying. Everyone was out looking, rescue teams, firefighters,
city police, everyone with grandchildren the same age. He felt
compelled to join in the search, and the man says,
I'm not a hero. I'm just glad I found the
little boy.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Go wors moment. Yeah, I felt. I don't know why
I felt about it. Was excited, say that loud red
there cross from the holler there, way down there. Yeah,
I've lived here all my life and I used to
play down in that thicket. That's how I told her. No,
the area real good. So yeah, that there was something
(04:12):
just guided me. I ain't no hero, but something guided
me down there. Real big relief because he was getting dark,
getting ready to get dark, and I know something would
be bad half of maybe if he waited after dark
to find him, because these animals and stuff down in
that way. So I'm just glad I was just able
to find him. Trying to do the right thing.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
After multiple emergency response teams had scoured the area, McMahon
found Jojo in a dense wooded area. He said, I've
lived here my entire life and played in this thicket
when I was a kid. Something just led me there.
I don't see myself a hero, but I felt guided
to this location. There was a huge relief because darkness
(04:53):
was approaching. I knew we had to find this little boy.
JoJo's family was immensely grateful, so thankful that their little
boy was returned unharmed. For the latest crime injustice news,
