Speaker 2 (00:03):
I'm Drew Nelson. A man in Georgia face's murder charges
after prosecutors say he knowingly hid his HIV positive status
from his wife, leading to her death. Cleveland Brody, aged
sixty two, was arrested in Rockdale County on charges of
malice murder and felony murder. His wife, Denise Brody, died
in April of twenty twenty two, just two days after
doctors diagnosed her with AIDS. She was sixty five. The

(00:26):
pair had married in twenty fourteen. Denise had survived breast cancer,
first in twenty seventeen and again in twenty nineteen, but
even after the cancer cleared, her health kept failing. Her
family thought the cancer had returned until the new tests
showed AIDS. Authority said Brody had known about his HIV
status since two thousand and six. They accused him of
taking medication for it for years but not telling Denise.

(00:49):
He was first charged in twenty twenty three with three
counts of reckless conduct after other women came forward with
similar claims. Karen Young, Denise's daughter, spoke to Waga and
she loved this man. She really, really loved him. Young
says Denise lived with untreated HIV for at least five years.
She called her mother's decline quote so rapid. After Denise's death,

(01:09):
her family pushed prosecutors to seek a murder charge. They
hired private investigators to uncover Brody's medical history. More women
came forward later, leading to more reckless conduct charges. Denise's
younger brother, Jimmy Suber, she put him out when she
found out he was cheating on her as she loved
him so much that she actually allowed him to come back,
asking him to take a test because he's out there.

(01:31):
Brody has pleaded not guilty to reckless conduct charges. He
has not yet entered a plea on the murder charges.
If convicted, he faces life in prison.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Anytime he could have told her I have this, and
she gave her the right to make the decision on
whether or not she wanted to stay with him.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Authority say they believed there could be more victims. More
Crime and Justice news after this. A Teleban faces life
in prison after pleading guilty in New York to hostage
taking and providing material support for terrorism that killed American soldiers.

(02:08):
Haaji Najibula, aged forty nine, entered the plea before US
District Court Judge Katharine polk Pila. He admitted his role
in the deaths of three US soldiers and an Afghan
interpreter in two thousand and eight and the kidnapping of
an American journalist and two Afghan nationals later that year.
Najubula led Taliban fighters in Afghanistan's Wardak Province between two

(02:29):
thousand and seven and two thousand and nine. During that time,
his fighters used suicide bombers, homemade bombs, rocket propelled grenades,
and automatic weapons to attack US and NATO forces. In
one ambush on June twenty six of two thousand and eight,
three US soldiers, Sergeant first class Matthew L. Hilton, Sergeant
first class Joseph A. McKay, and Sergeant Mark Palmettier were

(02:50):
all killed, along with their Afghan interpreter, Muhammad Fahim. Later
that year, Najubula and other fighters kidnapped David Road, then
a New York Times journal along with Afghan journalists to
hear Ludin and their driver. The hostages were forced at
gunpoint to hike across the Afghanistan Pakistan border. Najubula kept
them captive in Pakistan for about seven months, forcing them

(03:12):
to record ransom videos. Road and Luden escaped by climbing
down a wall while guards slept. Mangle escaped weeks later.
In a statement, US attorney J. Clayton said, quote, Najubula
committed his crimes in Afghanistan over fifteen years ago and
now faces justice in an American court room. FBI Assistant
Director Christopher g. Reya said, quote, these terrorist attacks demonstrated

(03:34):
utter disregard for humanity, and Najubula finally admitted to his
role in these premature deaths of our citizens. Road, who
is now with NBC News, told The New York Times
in an email after the plea, quote, I am pleased
that he admitted his guilt today and grateful to all
the US officials who brought him to justice. Most of all,
my heart goes out to the families of the three
US soldiers and the Afghan translator who were killed. Najubula

faces a possible double life sentence. A woman from Georgia
vanishes in nineteen ninety seven after being seen in distress
outside a bank with two men lurking. Melanie Warren, aged
thirty four, was last seen April eleventh of nineteen ninety

friend saw her crying and upset as two men waited

(04:20):
for her in a car. When the friend offered help,
Melanie said she did not need the police or her parents,
but she has not been seen since. Melanie had been
living with her elderly parents after separating from her husband.
She moved back home about three months before she disappeared.
On May third, police found her green nineteen ninety two

o four and Interstate ninety five. There was no sign
of a struggle, no blood or other clues found in
the car. At the time of her disappearance, Melanie had
a drug problem. There was also an outstanding warrant for
her arrest, but police do not believe that explains her disappearance.
Her parents think that foul play was involved. Melanie is

Speaker 1 (05:30):
How could a beautiful, young first grade teacher be stabbed
twenty times, including in the back, allegedly die of suicide? Yes,
that was a medical examiner's official ruling after a closed
door meeting. He first named it a homicide. Why what
Happened to Ellen Greenberg? A huge American miscarriage of justice.
