Just over a week after a fire damaged the Pennsylvania
Governor's residence, Governor Josh Shapiro welcomed families back to the
mansion's west lawn for an Easter egg hunt. The event
marked a return to normalcy following an alleged arson attack
that forced the evacuation of the governor and his family.
The fire, which broke out around two am on April thirteenth,

(03:32):
caused significant damage to parts of the residents, including the
state dining and piano rooms. Authorities say thirty eight year
old Cody Balmer scaled a nearly seven foot fence, broke
windows with a hammer, and threw gasoline filled bottles into
the building. Balmer later turned himself in and faces multiple charges,
including attempted homicide, arson, and terrorism. Investigators are examining potential

(03:57):
political and religious motivations for the attack, as the incident
occurred during the Passover holiday. In a nine to one
one call, Balmer allegedly expressed anger over Shapiro's support for Israel,
citing harm to Palestinians. Despite the damage, no injuries were
reported thanks to the swift actions of state troopers who
evacuated the governor's family. Restoration efforts are underway, with hopes

(04:20):
to complete repairs by midsummer. An independent security review led
by former State Police Commissioner Jeffrey Miller is also in progress.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
The preliminary hearing for Cody Balmer is scheduled for May
