BREAKING NEWS: TWO MINNESOTA LAWMAKERS SHOT, 1 KILLED, IN "POLITICALLY MOTIVATED ASSASSINATION"

Breaking news out of Minnesota, two lawmakers and their spouses have been shot in what's being called a "politically motivated assassination."  Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were killed. Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were injured, shot multiple times. They underwent surgery overnight and doctors are optimistic they will survive.

Crime Art hourly update, Breaking crime news Now. I'm Jackie Howard,
breaking news out of Minnesota. Two lawmakers and their spouses
have been shot in what's being called a politically motivated assassination.
Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were killed in
the attack. Senator John Hoffman and his wife were injured,

shot multiple times. They underwent surgery overnight and doctors are
optimistic they will survive. Police officers responded to a shooting
call around two am this morning at the home of
Senator Hoffman. Around three point thirty officers arrived at the
home of Representative Horton, encountering an individual appearing to be
a police officer exiting the home. Police Chief Mark Browley.

When they arrived at Melissa's house, they noticed that there
was a police vehicle in a driveway with the lights
mergency lights on and what appeared to be a police
officer at the door coming out of the house. When
our officers confronted him, the individually immediately fired upon the officer.
Officers who exchanged on fire in.

The second of the really says the man was not
a police officer, was not.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
A real police officer. This is somebody that clearly had
been impersonating a police officer, again using the trust of
this badge in this uniform to manipulate their way into
the home.

Besides, the uniform really says even the car was an impostor.
Down to the blue lights.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
They did drive a vehicle that looked exactly like an
SUD squad car. It was equipped with lights, emergency lights,
and exactly like a police vehicle. And yes, they were
wearing a vest with taser other equipment that would a
badge very similar to mine.

That no question.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
If they were in this room, you would assume that
they are a police officer.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Reportedly, police recovered writings from that car which mentioned names
of multiple lawmakers and other officials. Both Hortman and Hoffman
were mentioned in the suspect's ridings. During a press conference,
Minnesota Governor Tim Wall spoke highly of Speaker Hortman.

Speaker Hortman was someone who served the people Soda with grace, compassion, humor,
and a sense of service. She was a formidable public servant,
a fixture, and a giant in Minnesota. She woke up
every day determined to make this state a better place.
She is irreplaceable, and we've been missed by so many.
