Jon Jones has officially come out and said he DOES NOT want a fight with Tom Aspinall, and Daniel Cormier is here to react to the big news and what means for the future of the UFC's heavyweight division. DC says Jon should BE STRIPPED of his UFC TITLE because of that statement, and the sport should move on with Aspinall fighting for the heavyweight championship. And Cormier says that the timing isn't favorable for Jon, and doubles down on him fearing getting knocked out cold, but not being afraid of Tom himself. #Volume

Well, Some Guys is Thursday, June nineteenth, and today's episode
is brought to you by Total Wireless, the official wireless
provider of UFC. They're in your corner with unlimited five
G data that won't slow you down. You know. Uh,
it feels like we are always talking about John and

(01:49):
Jones and what he's going to do and is he
gonna fight? Is he not gonna fight? What's it gonna
mean to the organization, what's gonna mean to his fight
career legacy? Well, finally, it finally feels like we have
some sort of idea of what he wants to do

(02:09):
going forward. Dana White was on Jim Rome yesterday and
Jim Rome asked him directly, how long are you planning
the way? Dana said, We're probably gonna have something in
two weeks. That's a number that's defined, which is something
we didn't have before before. Was very soon, he said,
in about two weeks, we'll have something for you. Well,
we didn't even have to wait two weeks because John

(02:30):
Jones spoke first. John Jones on the podcast the other day,
and I'm taking this from MMA Junkie where he was
sitting with a guy and they were talking about where
he's fought before. Asked him if you have a fun
and canon and all this other of stuff, and the
guy asked him, what's next. You know what's next as

(02:50):
the champion, and John had some very interesting things to say.
He said, I don't want to say that I'm retired
because let me pull this up in Luisa's text messages.
He sent me a picture. I don't want to say
that I'm retired because geez, look at this stupid as Okay,

(03:14):
he's actually talking to Fulsin MMA. Okay, first off, here
we go. I don't want to say that I'm retired
because fighting is in my blood. Right now, I could
really care less about fighting. I've been doing it my
whole life at a very high level. And when the
itch comes back, if it comes back, then I'll do
it with my whole heart. Let's break that down first.

(03:36):
Let's break that down first. John Jones has been fighting
at a super high level and for that we have
commended him on many occasions about how he has been
able to not only fight in one era of mixed
martial arts. This dude has literally been able to navigate
his way through three different eras of mixed martial arts.

(03:58):
I'm talking the first Arabic I'm the champion. When he
fought Showgun and he fought Macheetah and he fought against Vitur,
those guys were all hanging around that belt rampage Forrest.
They were kind of playing hot potato with the belt.
John then comes in beats Showgun, dominant fashion controls that era,

(04:20):
brings stability to the belt. Once that is done, Rashad Evans,
who was once a mentor to him, is a bit
of that new era of guy in terms of a
champion old end of that era into the new. He
beats Rashad Evans, then he beats Alexander Gustuson who belongs
to the new era, and then he beats me, who

(04:41):
belongs to the new era. He's in that era of
guy and he's navigating his way through that. Then John
Jones goes and beats Anthony Smith, Thiago Santos, he beats
Dominic Reyz, another era of guy who honestly, guys, I
didn't even know those guys were in my weight class
when I was the champion because they were so far
off the radar. John was able to stay long enough

(05:03):
to not only be there when they were fighting, but
to beat them three eras of mixed martial arts and
do it at a level that was crazy. So you
want to give him grace in that sense, because nobody
gets to do that. Time catches up with everyone. We
have said that time and time again. So you want

(05:24):
to give him grace in that respect. But what took
so long? What took so long? What took so long
for you to tell us, hey, if it comes back,
I'll come back, but right now it's not there. What
took so long? You will get grace in that regard

(05:45):
by not saying something. By waiting to say something, you
gave people the idea that you just don't want to
fight this guy. Seriously, that you just don't want to
fight this guy who represents another Era, a Fighter, Soda
Cyril Gone, he beats Steve A Miochich. But come on, guys,
we all know stepe A was done at that point.

(06:07):
But I saw some clips recently of step A landing
on John. That's I don't even remember him doing anything
positive in that fight because he seems so far behind Jones.
But when I saw those clips, he is actually landing,
and if he was landing, I'm imagining tom Aspernault will land.
But what you guys can't forget this guy is a
good chin. John Jones beat me when I've been when

(06:28):
I was at my best. I was never better in
my career than that fight in Anaheim. I was never
better a mixed martial artist, whether I beat step A,
whether I beat Derek Lewis and Dan Henderson, all those guys,
I was never better than that night he beat me
in Anaheim, and he beat me. That's where my idea

(06:51):
that he isn't afraid of tom Aspnaut comes from, because
if he could beat me, then I feel like he
could beat anyone in mixed martial arts. But by by
take so long, he's now giving you the idea, well,
he's afraid, so then he goes on to speak about
Aspinall more, and he says, Aspinall is not in a
position to excite me. It's the truth, because if I

(07:12):
whip his ass, it's going to be the next guy.
There's gonna be a whole new fan base of somebody
that everybody believes in that might have worked before, that's
not working this time. That's where Jones loses me. That's
where Jones loses I get it that he's seen the
great hope of someone that's going to beat him. In

(07:35):
the past, There's never been someone like this now. I
just told you I was never better than that fighting
Anaheim and he beat me. Let me tell you why
it's never been someone like Aspinall because of the way
the roles have changed. If this was John Jones at
twenty eight years old, no worry for him, and Aspinall

(07:56):
would not be the biggest threat to him. The reason
Aspa the biggest threat to him today is because he's
thirty eight years old, because he's lived the life of access,
of excess, partying, living, doing all those things that back
in the day got him into trouble. Sure we have

(08:17):
not seen him doing those things yet. I mean, obviously
he still has a good time. I don't know if
it's to the extent that he did before, but Aspinall
is the biggest threat today because the roles have reversed.
At twenty eight years old, John would have seen Tom
a million times over and fought him already. But John
at thirty eight recognizes that this dude's a little better.

(08:42):
He's not afraid. Like I told you guys a long
time ago, he just doesn't want to get knocked out.
He doesn't want that. John Jones prefers to let his
legacy stay as is, with the caveat that he didn't
fight Tom Aspnaal and run the risk of fighting Tom
Aspinall and getting beat by Tom Aspinall. That's where the
difference lies. That's where the difference lies. The difference lies

(09:04):
in him knowing that he is a tad bit slower.
We can all see, we all have eyes the tad slower.
It happens when you start at nineteen and that twenty
one become the world champion. He've been in the world
champion for seventeen years. Of course you're gonna miss a step,
but you know who has it. It's Tom, and that's

(09:24):
where the dangers lie. That's where the worry comes from.
So that's why we're seeing a man say this guy
doesn't really excite me, when in reality it's exciting. But
it's also very scary. So you prefer to leave that
legacy in Tacnen. In time, everybody forgets Hey, he fought

(09:45):
everybody else because we should not judge him based off
one thing. We really shouldn't. But for a long time
people ask for him to go up to fight a
heavyweight against guys like Kane Velaskas, steep A and his Prime,
and he was very hesitant about doing that. He fought
steep A had forty one, no problem. He fought Cyril
Gun who's limited, no problem. Now he's got a guy

(10:07):
in front of him that is very dangerous, very hungry,
and he's kind of going, I don't really want to
do this, but guys, guess what, Maybe it's just over.
Sometimes you just know it's over. Jail and I discussed
it a while ago. Sometimes it's just over, and when
you know, you walk away. Unfortunately, waited so long that
it's gonna look like it looks so right. Now it's

(10:29):
time to strip him, strip him. It's time to strip him.
He was talking to Fulsin Mma. He's talking to Kyle
from the note Boys, and he said this.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
He's just not He's not in a position. He's not
in a position to like excite me. It's just the truth.
It's gonna be this, It's gonna be it's gonna be
the next guy. There's gonna be a whole new fan
base to somebody who everybody believes in. I've done this
my whole adult life.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
There it is him talking to Kyle. That's the actual
clip of him talking about Tom Aspinall and saying how
Tom needs him, and he's telling the truth. You know,
he's telling the truth. No matter how great Tom Aspinall is,
he needs that fight. He needs that fight to go over.
It's the tale of his oldest time in all the sports,
all of wrestling, all of everything. When the Lakers became

(11:17):
the best and Magic Johnson took overrom Larry Bird, he
had to go through Larry Bird. When Michael Jordan became
the world champion, he had to go through Magic Johnson.
You feel the error switch John Jones will if he
doesn't fight Tom Athbnall stop that from happening. But ultimately
it's time to strip him. He doesn't want to fight

(11:38):
this guy. If he ain't gonna it does not sound
like he's going to fight. It's time to take the belt.
It's time to move on and hope that itchy speaks
about comes back, and if it does, stick him in
there with Tom Asbnall, give him no other choice. I
gotta be honest with you. I would make him fight Tom,
even if Tom wasn't the champion, because I think that's
the fight that matters. Tom Asmnall's ready, Tom's gonna go

(12:00):
fight someone else. That dude was pissed that he has
not been booked, but we're gonna see what happens. But guys,
finally today we got some answers that John Jones says
he's pretty much done. I don't want to say I'm retired,
but it's really all you need to hear. I could
have did that in a minute. I did it in
the eleven. That's all you gotta hear. I don't want

(12:22):
to say I'm retired, but it's done. He's done. It's
time for us to let it go. Let's let it
move on. I won't make a video about John Jones
for the next couple of weeks now because there will
be no news right now. He's been the news until
next time. Guys like subscribe, Tell you friends, I got
