Speaker 1 (00:17):
You're listening to the Fantasy Sports Radio Network. What is
up everybody? This this docs you out here in the
Fantasy Sports Network alongside Dr Mitchell rosalind I am Greg Susman.
(00:41):
Welcome back to another edition of the show. This is March.
What's going on? Doc? March Madness? And um, I think
last night at seven o'clock, guys, you know turned on
to watch sixty minutes you got a chance to see
the end of the Duke game CBS's dream. Yeah, and um,
(01:06):
you know, there must have been a lid over the
basket at that point in time because both of those
shots they were in both the initial shot and then
um fuckings tip looked like it was going to go in.
Next thing, it rolls out of the basket and and
Duke lives to play another day. And it was a wild,
(01:29):
wild game. I want to I don't want to start there.
I want to end there. Because that was seven o'clock.
That was like the main event for us on Sunday
because everything after that kind of stunk um, But that
was that was the main event where everyone's around their
TV Sunday night, seven o'clock. The whole dealt the world
watching the world together rooting against Duke. Let's go back.
Let's go back to Thursday. How much of the tournament
on Thursday? Do you get to see what you think
(01:51):
amount a fair amount. I I saw um the Murray
State Markett game, okay, um, I tore Maryland l s U.
I saw the afternoon Michigan State Bradley um, and there
were a lot of you know, a lot of teams
staying within. Then at night I saw Liberty, I saw
(02:13):
offered um all of those those games, and you know,
or a fair amount of the thirsty games, how about you?
You know? So for me it was crazy, Zach, because
for me, I watched the early afternoon games for the
Maryland Belmont yet actually the earlier games, and I played
a Survivor martch bandess Pool, which I was limited for
(02:34):
for three times in a matter of twenty four hours,
so that was great. And then Maryland Belmont, which is
the game I was obviously most looking forward to. So
it's on at three ten, I think it actually started
really three. It was the same time Michigan State exactly,
I host. I went to Bobby Valentine's and Stanford Now
they should ask for advertising time and the yeah, they
(02:57):
you know, you know, you know, it's like you now
know why single win me there with three guys in
the bar and not one woman? Absolutely not, you know.
So Anyway, so I host an NBA show for US
at four thirty every Thursday. So I watched the entire
first half from three to four twenty and the seconds
(03:18):
half starts and I'm sitting here with my laptop of
it obviously to the game, and I'm letting try to
let everybody else do the heavy lifting. And then the
game is closer and closer, and they're down in the
final seconds, and there's all these now videos online of
me doing this. It was crazy, Doc. That Belmont game,
that was insane. Well, I thought, at the end of
(03:40):
the first half, the athletes of Maryland not going and
Maryland started to dominate the inside, which is which, which,
to be fair to them, is how they planned to
start the game. And then Belmont, We're hitting all these
ridiculous threes and then Maryland tried to match that, and
that wasn't how that should plan. And I kind of thought,
I honestly thought at the beginning of the second half.
I think I even texted you during that game that
(04:02):
it was going to be kind of what we store
a lot of Saturday and Sunday. Once the athletes get going,
I was woo woo, woo, woo woo. I thought the
Duke game at the you know, had a moment like that,
you know it's right in the second half. And then well,
well it wasn't in the second half. It was like
the last four minutes of the first half. That's what
I meant the second and I thought they were gonna
(04:24):
go woo woo woo, and the athletes of Maryland were
going to take over, and it was a nice story.
And then once you dominate inside, you know you you've
dominated the game. So I was surprised. And then coming
down the stretch and you said, and you were, you
were texting me on Thursday exactly what was happening to
(04:46):
You know, first of all, when you're behind, you extend.
You never shortened the game, Okay, telling in vascular state
that you know you you you extend the game. Especially
Maryland is not an unbelievable foul shooting team. They didn't.
They're fine. And then and then they then they hold
for one down one. I mean, I never understand holding
(05:09):
for one when you're down one. Well, it was like, basically,
you're gonna what are you gonna losing this possession? That
was the thought that it's gonna happening right now. When
you're down, you want the game to be longer and
put the pressure on the other team. Well, I think
the thought was, we don't want to score then have
them come back in school. We don't want to leave
them anytime with the clock. I think that was the
thought process there. Nevertheless, Maryland gets away even if if
(05:31):
you see here, let's play it out. You know, you
start with you know, I think they're they're up, they're
down one. Maryland has the ball. Okay, I think at
that point in time, you foul at that point in
time at worst, you know, in college, it's it's worth
(05:53):
one point four or five points, right, so you're you're
you're down two point five, You're down either two or
three points in all probability, and then you have the ball.
They let the shot clock go down to the end.
Maryland misses, okay, so you take the pressure out of
them and then they hold for one. That makes no
sense to me. I would have fouled, Okay, come down,
(06:16):
worst comes to worst. Maryland doesn't want to foul, you
take you drive straight to the whole when you stole
down one and then you foul again, you know you
you you lengthen the game in that situation. I really,
I really believe they played that wrong. And then outside
of that, on Thursday, it was really much drama. Right,
there wasn't much drama. I was just it was just
the job. Maryan's show, John Moran Show. Who had a
(06:37):
triple double? First triple double since and Draymond Green. Draymond
Green did it from Michigan State and before that, Dwyane
Waite was you know, and I've said to people who
you know, there's this contention that Zion Williamson doesn't have
a position. Zion Williamson is going to change the way NBA.
(07:00):
Lou You're going to play him at the five at
certain times like Draymond Green. You're going to have him
jump out on the pick and roll. You know, they
who who if if he goes to a coach that
has common sense and you know, really the player players
that don't go into the NBA, these gays and more
like Taco Falls, you know, because you know somebody will
(07:20):
sign him and he'll sit at the end of the
bench waving, you know, because you know the way they
spread things out, and you have to be close to
a man. It's very hard to be seven six and
do that absolutely. And we'll get to Taco in a
few moments. It gets a Friday, and I want to
(07:41):
just fast forward to to your game, your doc Uel
Hawk guys, who they showed a lot of Hawks, showed
a lot of heart this weekend. We'll get the Sunday
in a second. And I was just I felt awful
for you. Well, it's a Friday. It was first game
of the day. It was twelve o'clock against Cincinnati's Cincinnati
team that in the first staff. Oh yeah, I thought
(08:01):
physically dominated this team physically dominated Iowa. Well, you know
that first of all you're talking about and and you've
got to give Iowa a lot of credit. That might
have been the worst matchup in the first round, playing
Cincinnati in Columbus in Ohio, basically home. Basically Cincinnati is
(08:23):
known as perhaps the best defensive right there with Virginia
in the country. Tire was problem is that they're scoring
team that they really don't defend. Um. You know, Bohannan
is a fantastic college player, but he's certainly not the
jet point guard. So it's really hard to defend great
(08:44):
when you can't pressure the ball. And you know, you
saw how Uston pressured the ball. You see how Texas
Tech pressures the ball, and we can we want to
talk about Texas texture after after that, but it's just difficult.
But you know what, I will just put their game
plan and you know, I think Fran does an incredible job.
(09:04):
Now obviously I'm biased, but you know, you look at
what has Sienna been since he's left, and you know,
every single year he figured out how to win. You know,
you see all of these mid majors they you know,
with the exception of the ones like Gonzager and Houston
other machines, but but you know, the mid majors in
the MAC they have won two years. I owned has
(09:24):
been decent for the last few years. But Fran actually
won every single year in a single bid conference, made
it every single year. And you know, he always has Iowa,
who has not had a pro a first round draft picks,
second round draft picks Aaron White, Devin Marble in the
Premier Basketball Conference. He has them relevant every single year.
(09:48):
And even if you look at this Iowa team. Okay,
who's the first round draft pick on this Iowa There
is nothing. There is none, I mean there is none.
I mean, you know, there may be a player that
develops into it, Like what does wise Cough have a
chance to have a very nice college career. Maybe right
(10:10):
now he still can't get his own shot. Tyler Cook
sometimes as a human highlights film and then misses the dunk.
I mean, you know he's playing with five You know,
it's not easy to recruit academic athletes that have big
ten standards to the middle of Iowa. And every year
they're relevant. And and the Cincinnati game was just like that.
(10:31):
They basically absorbed it was like Rocky. They absorbed the punishment. Okay,
And they did the same thing against Tennessee. They absorbed
the punishment. They ran their sets. Every one thing about
them is every single kid on the floor can can shoot.
When they hit their shots, they begin to defend, and
you know, basically coming down the stretch, they were going
(10:53):
to play their game. And just like they did against
Tennessee and the and they did it both times, and
you know, they played together and and and and pulled
it out and then did the same thing on Sunday,
and so that we'll get to that. Let's pause there.
But yeah, so Iowa plays their game better than the
second half, the shots all start to fall, Cincinnati tightens up,
and Iowa come as away with an easy victory when
(11:15):
it was all set and down. I fair McCaffrey is
a very very nice job there, um for uh the
Iowa hawk eyes. And then other than that, and you know,
let's take a step back when you look at the
big tent. Okay, you look at the teams in the
Big ten seven and one through the first two days
of the tournament, Okay, and you look at the teams there,
(11:35):
Every single one of those teams as two to three
first round picks every year or two. Ohio State not everyone,
but a lot of them. Okay, even you take your
Maryland you have Stone was the first round, Yes, you know, tremble.
I mean Maryland's had way more than Okay, Michigan State,
(11:56):
you know every year, Michigan every year, Wisconsin every year?
I got it? Yeah, I mean whose eye was prot it?
Aaron White playing at the same with the same place
where the ball gay, right, I mean they don't they don't,
they don't have one would say Minnesota really has one either, Um, No, Minnesota.
But you know it's interesting. Minneapolis has one of the
(12:16):
best AU teams. I told your frans son in Minneapolis.
Minneapolis has become one of the most fertile recruiting zones.
A problem with the University of Minnesota the date has
been Petino not being able to keep the talent there.
Matthew Hurt, who is one of the top five players
in the country. I don't think he's signed yet for
next year. Let's look him up. Matthew Hurt is one
(12:37):
of the top five players, is from Minneapolis. Alright, crystal
ball for Matthew Hurt, power forward from Rochester, Minnesota. That's right,
that's right where you said. He is currently the number
one player in Minnesota, number two powerful overall, the number
nine player overall. His list is Duke Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Minnesota.
(12:59):
So I mean that's the kid you gotta keep home.
I mean, you know you have to, you have to
keep that some of those kids home. He's got braces
in his McDonald's All American picto. Doc say, I actually
saw him play. His grand son. Is that My grand
son is in the Adidas Nationals where they lost to
the Compton Magic in overtime, UM the finals of the
(13:22):
Adidas So they were the second best a U team
in the country from Adidas, from Minneapolis. And on that team,
every single kid is you know, Vision one player, um,
you know the point guards playing for Stanford, etcetera, uk
UK Kansas UNC Duke or his top four Minnesota eight,
number five, just a number five for Matthew Hurt at
(13:44):
this point other than Iowa. On Friday afternoon, again not
really much drama outside of New Mexico and Auburn Mexico
State because that was exactly the same time and and
and basically it looked like Auburn was gonna run out
of the run out of the gym okay, and New
Mexico State comes back and basically Auburn tries to hand
(14:05):
them the game and they just miss miss at the end.
Oh my god, how that wasn't one of the interesting
You know, you see so much basketball, you get a
little une drinking, you forget. But the god has a layup. Okay,
wide open layup, this is it back for three and
the kid gets fouled on the three and mrs two
(14:26):
out of the three foul shots yeah, it was. It
was just unbelievable. You gotta take the two the entire
the game, and then and then you can't foul, I
mean then and even after that they got the ball
back and a kid missed a wide open corner three.
It was, yeah, it was just that. That was an unbelievable,
an unbelievable finish. And you know, but Auburn looked fantastic.
(14:49):
And then that's right on Saturday. And so after Auburn
collapses for all tends of purposes, they collapse on Thursday
and Kansas runs Northeastern out of the gym. On 's Day,
the spread opens with Alburn is a one point favorite,
and I'm just like, this doesn't make sense, Like everybody's
going to love Kansas. Why would Alburn open as a
(15:09):
one point favorite? And because of that, I told it,
anybody that would listen, I love Alburn on Saturday. You know,
if you watch Kansas play this year, Auburn and Kansas
play at two different seeds. And that's and that's one
of the things that you saw on Sunday. You know,
it was amazing the speed difference that you see. And
(15:32):
you know, again that's the issue that Iowa had with Tennessee,
except I was used to it because they play in
a big time our conference all the time, and and
they've gotten used to teams being, say a little bit
faster and making up some of that difference. Um, the
most surprised I was was Produe running you know, I
(15:54):
produced good. I told you it was, you know, it
produced good, and they shot the hell out of the ball.
But I didn't think that they just run Villanova off
the court. I mean, I did not think that, you know,
day right, Villanova one of the best coach teams, and
you know, this is not a great Villanova team by
any stretch of the imagination. But I thought athletically that Produe,
(16:16):
you know, would not be good enough to just beat
him by thirty. I really, I really was surprised that absolutely.
And you know, again, this is what you see on
the second round. And I'm not surprised because first round,
you have four days to prepare. Everybody's gung ho, everybody's tight.
Then you have the short turnaround without the scouting reports,
(16:39):
and the depth and the speed becomes more obvious in
the second game, you know, and now that now now
you have all week to prepare again, and and and
you don't know who you're gonna be preparing for, so
I'm not surprised. The second round is really the hardest thing.
Cinderella definitely, you know, to to to to We're there
(17:00):
where there are things, and the teams that play are
usually pretty good and have pretty good death. And it's
funny because on on Thursday, on Saturday after the Maryland game,
we were talking. You were you were talking, You're texting
back and forth with Cinderella, and I was like, there's
a lot of Cinderella's left, and you're like, well there
will be tonight. There won't be by the end of
the all and it's tomorrow and in the second round,
and I gave it the only way there there really
(17:21):
is and and and this is the interesting conversation because
they used to be more, but now I think that
the last we were just talking about France to last
in the Big ten, to last in the A c s,
you know, as opposed to say Danny Ferry at wake
Forest and the Clemson's coach. You you really have to
(17:42):
really have a good, solid program. And now the one
and done thing has begun to sort itself out. You
know where the one and dunes are going except if
there's some kid that catches fire like you know, even
though he's like a John Moran, right, you don't respect
but By and Ludge, you know, they'd go going to
Duke Kentucky a little bit Kansas. It's sorted itself out,
(18:05):
so you're seeing more level and the power conferences for
beginning By and Lodge to distinguish themselves. And you know,
again I kind of count you know the Big East
and and you know the All American Conference that Houston
in Central Florida and Cincinnati Cincinnati that pretty big time.
You know, Cincinnati is playing cronin you know, well over
(18:29):
two million dollars. Yet you know, there was a big
was actually thinking about mccrona over the weekend. How he's
still surprising he's still at Cincinnati all these years. A
lot of there's a lot of talk that he's going
to be offered the Vanderbilt child. I saw that, but
I don't think he I don't think he takes that.
You know, Vanderbilt ran at France several years ago before
or be he looked at it really hard. He did it. Yeah,
(18:50):
what would it take for friend Leviola can would be
really really tough Now he's got both his kids playing
from him. So I mean, so now you can argue
that the transfer rules have changed, at least in football, right,
I don't think I think Frans gonna Yeah, I think,
you know, fran is really really happy at Iowa. I
think it would have to be, you know, like there
(19:12):
was always an attraction to go back to Philadelphia, where
he was from. But both his parents passed away from cancer,
which is why he's so active in in in coaches
against cancer. So I don't think there's any attraction there.
His wife is from Minnesota, and you know that there
are exclusions in Big ten contracts from going to one
Big ten contract to another. Um you know, the A
(19:36):
C C. You know pretty much the dukes in the
North Carolina that would be step ups, only higher from within. Okay,
wake Forest would be an interesting place, but he transferred
from wake Forest. I remember once getting a phone call saying,
everybody has your friend Frand going to wake Forest. He said,
it's impossible. He transferred from there. What is he gonna
do walk in and recruit and say yeah, I love
(19:59):
it now, you know, so it's a tough sell because
he transferred wake Forest. Depend so it's it's a it's
a tough sell. I mean, you know, when the Texas
of the world or the u c l a S
of the world call, you'd have to listen. Um. But
it would take something like that. And you know, he
(20:21):
met his wife at Notre Dame, so I would list
that as the possibility. You know, fran likes to be
a good academic places where you don't cheat, you know,
where you know people want to come there and he
can run you know, a completely clean program. So Vandermilt,
it's the bill. But I think that the thing that
(20:42):
he probably didn't like. There were several things he didn't
like about Vanderbilt. One was that there's no athletic dorms UM.
And I also think he probably felt that there wasn't
really a natural recruiting place. Well, you know, we could
see if if Mike Bray decided to go on elsewhere
in Order Dame, maybe that becomes a possibility. This, Yeah,
I think it would be really hard with both of
his kids playing and and you know, I think he's
(21:05):
really I think he you know, he's got a an
interesting team coming back. He has this kid, Jack Noons,
who sat out a year. Um, he has his son
who is you know, anywhere from top to top sixty
in the country, Anna, I mean coming back. And he
(21:28):
signed a very quick guard from New York that he
likes a lot, Joel Tussant, who was only a three
star recruit. Only like my ol kids should be three
star recruits. Okay, but but you know, he's very high
on and likes better than a lot of people who
in fran has a great time for talent. And I
think weisse Comf was as good as any freshman in
(21:49):
the big tent. I think he's got a real upside.
We'll see, well what West Colic could do in you tube.
Let's get to the weekend now, with both of our
teams suffering outside of UCF, two of the most devastating
loss is um of the entire tournament. The first game
on Saturday, of course, was the Terrapants facing l s
U and LSU team that was just significantly better than
them in the first half of that game, and then,
(22:09):
much like in that second half against Belmont, after more
Tursion gets teed up, never really makes up a little bit,
starts hitting some shots, starts playing their game, and next
thing you know, they're up and they're winning. And uh
tie game with twelve seconds left and l s U
kind of brings it down. Um kid goes in, travels
on a lamp, doesn't get called scores of basket game over.
(22:30):
Yeah that's something. And you know it was, but you
missed the thing. The big freshman hits the shot for
Jaylen Smith was shot. It's one of those no, no, no, yeah,
right shot in the corner. I mean, you know, and
and and you know, you know I never thought that
was not the shot that I would have wanted, certainly not.
And there wasn't the show that was drawn off either.
(22:51):
It went right down the middle of the net. It
was like, oh my god, you know, believe me, that's
what I said as well, you know, right right down
the thing. You know again, I think he's a good coach,
and I think they will they always have a good program. Um,
you know, can I didn't think they got into their
flow of their offense in the first half. They didn't,
(23:12):
you know, the flow of their offense. You know, they're
kind of more like point guard by committee rather than
you know, somebody who really runs the show. Oh man,
So so I don't know about that. I think they
have the two point guards. That's that is what it is.
I Alan Collen. Yeah, but neither of them seemed to
make everybody on the court better. You know that. I
don't think. I think both of them are hybrid guards.
(23:33):
I think that's fair. So I think I Alla could
become that. It's the freshman. I think he could become that.
But I definitely see what you're saying. It would be
interesting for the Terrafans team. Uh, even when Bruno Fernando
doesn't return next year, it goes into the NBA draft.
If Jalen Smith stays what this team could become. Everybody
seems to both of them going into the draft, which
I think that goes in the draft. But you know, again,
I don't see either of them being in the top twenty.
(23:56):
I think, I mean, this is goes the draft. I
think most people have Bruno Fernandez early second round right now,
Bruno according to NBA draft dot Net, Bruno is number
nine overall. Really, yeah, I don't know that's right, that's
what they say. Wow, I mean, you know, this is
a crazy draft where you have Zion and now John
(24:16):
Morant and then maybe you say Reddish and Barrett and
then you know, it's kind of dealers pick after that. Absolutely, yeah,
I don't you know who you like. I don't really
feel strong with any of these guys, to be honest
with you. Um, I feel strongly about John morand actually,
oh yeah, I feel strongly about hn Moran as well.
I mean honestly, if I I picked him, I wouldn't
(24:38):
be so fast to trade him out. That Absolutely, Um,
I think he really looks good. Um, he looks like
you know what he looks like to me, a beta
version of Drew Holiday, you know, from the Pelicans. Who
let's get continuing on. So after the Maryland game on
Saturday again, nothing else crazy, right, No? No, The only
(25:01):
other decent game was the Kentucky game. After that, the
Saturday and night games were brutal. You know, Purdue, they
were over in the first half, Purdue ran up Villanova. Um,
I mean you gotta go down the list, I mean thing,
and and it was pretty much. Nonday was the same,
except for the Iowa game in the Duke game. Sure,
(25:23):
you know, it's funny. Everybody was watching the Iowa game
because it was the only game on at that time.
And I must have gotten a hundred texts telling me
how Iowa is completely overmatched balls Balkley at the half.
Did you hear what he said at the He basically said,
you know, those guys in Tennessee looked like basketball players,
and you know, Iowa looked at like, you know, whatever
(25:45):
type of deal. And then I think that Tyler Cook
comes out and slams one down with the left hand
and Bohannan basically shoves them out of the way. And
it's a completely different second half. And I thought Iowa
had it down twenty five points, Ile comes all the
way back and gets it to overtime and ultimately fell. Yeah,
(26:09):
unbelieving Admiral Scholfield sits out all of overtime. That really
really weird. You know, it's amazing how people call that leadership.
I don't call that leadership. What what? I don't understand it?
What what? What does that sound like? I don't understand it.
Why would he do that to himself? And of course
for those that missed it, Admiral Schoolfield, he's been Tennessee's
best player and leader all season long. Yeah, it had
(26:32):
four fouls, went on the bench. The Tennessee team uh
survived was overtime with him on the bench and Rick
Barnes head coach put him back in, and he's like, no,
you should play him. He's been better than me. You know,
first of all, what's the what's the worst thing that happened?
They made it like a like a you know, all
of a sudden the first game I've watched basketball now
(26:53):
for I guess probably since I fifty years fifty years. Okay,
they aid like, four foul seem like terminal pancreatic cancer
and you're in hospice. So Taco Smalls play four fouls
all game? Okay, you know it seems like, what's the
worst thing that happens? He gets his fifth foul? Okay,
and you know, let's you know, Iowa plays well when
(27:15):
they play from the inside to the outside and then
they shoot it. If you look at Iowa win Gauza
is the leading scorer. That's when they win. Okay. And
when Godza goes through and he's really like an interesting play.
I don't know how to describe he. Yeah, he comes
from a very successful family, excellent footwork in the post,
(27:38):
looks slow, but always seems to get where he wants
to go. It's foul shots, and you know, Tyler Cook
can beat anybody and either hit it or miss it.
When Iowa goes down to them and everybody comes in. Oh,
they get fouled. That's when they play well. But neither
of them are j bar You know, you don't have
(27:58):
to sit out because you know it's like you know,
you know, I mean, I gotta tell you. And when
Fran listens to this, he gotta be laughing saying that,
you know, this guy sat out because he didn't want
to play these you know my guys, you know, you
know this guy is supposed to be first round pick
in the NBA, and and and and he he he's
you know, intimidated by guarding Luca Gosza. It was weird.
(28:19):
I nothing agains Luka Garza, but Luca Gossa is a
terrific player, so and Luca Gossa will would have fouled
them out big deals. So it's it's not terminal. You're
one of the best, you're one of the best players.
He's protecting to go early in the second round. Um,
but one of the best players in college basketball, have
one of the best season in college basketball. You take
yourself out now. I was impressed with Grant Williams. I
(28:40):
thought he traded and and and and and and you
know the game. The game changing play in that game
was when Grant Williams stripped Tyler Cook. Yes, okay, who's
you know? Tyler Cook at times looks like he's all
world okay, but that stripped took his mojo away, you know,
(29:02):
it just took his mojo. He had so much mojo
at the beginning of the second half he felt he
was the best player on the court. And that's one
of the most interesting thing that's about sports. And you
go into why I would never touch Admiral Schofield and
Pete will say, oh, this is great leadership, this is altruistic,
this is you know, you know, looking at the benefit
(29:24):
of the common at the expense of himself. But you
know what, if you're going to be a great player,
you can't have a fragile ego. Okay. And the difference
between the great ones like Lebron James is they you know,
they don't have fragile egos. They just make the next play.
So you strip them and they just come down and
(29:45):
they put it in your face this much harder. Okay,
When you don't put yourself back in that tells me
that your ego is too fragile to play in the NBA.
The and I know everybody on ESPN disagrees, because now,
maybe that's great, maybe he should be the next vice
president of the United States, young to be president. But
(30:05):
but but but if I'm picking for the NBA, I
don't want no fragile ego. Weird. That was that was very,
very weird to me. What did France say the players
after the game? How did he take it? Eddie Phil
I think that, you know, his response to me was
I love these kids, And I think that was really
summed it up. I don't think he was going to
look at the what if, could have, could have and
(30:28):
stuff like that. I think that he was going to say, hey,
you guys left it all on the court. You know,
one bounce went this way, one bounce went the other way.
You know what we did in front of national television.
You know what I told him was that the whole
country was watching. You really caught the whole imagination. I
could tell by the amount of texts that I was
getting because there was nothing else on Sunday. It was
(30:52):
really ran unopposed at that point in time, and somehow
the words spread that Iowa came back, so that you know,
so really did that. So I think, you know, the
other thing is you you have to look at where
they came from. You know, last year. Last year they
had a down year and they were physically outmanned, and
(31:14):
they committed to having a vigorous offseason workout program. And
as Charles Walkley said, maybe they don't look like the
athletes and the tops as DC team, but you know
what those athletes will did and they played their butts
off in the second half against two very athletic teams.
So I think that overall, I think that Fran was
proud of the way they competed. I mean, I think
(31:36):
that it's really would be he's He's won this game
a bunch of times. The this is the second closest
he came. They lost to Louisville and the Buzzer at
Sienna many years ago with a very good Sienna team.
I think he'd like to go to the sweet sixteen.
And I think that he feels that he's getting to
the point in Iowa where he has a shot each
(31:57):
year again, right, I mean I think that he you know,
the goal for the Iowa program. Most people in Iowa
don't understand the goal to the Iowa programs to be
Wisconsin irrelevant every year, right and and hopefully you get
a wiss Cough that starts out as a four star
recruit and by the time he's done, he's the top
(32:17):
and then player. And you know, like Butler did, like
Butler catches fire with Gordon Haywood, you know, not recruited.
That's what a school like Iowa, and for that matter,
Wisconsin needs to be in the top end of the
country Maryland as well as be honest with you, you know. Now,
let's get to the main event from Sunday evening. And
the world was watching as Duke and you Cef went
(32:40):
at it, and you seef like we've seen some of
these uh younger mid majors, do not think you see
have to have been major as you're talking to the
American Conference. But they got out early, They got out early,
build the lead, and predictably it's a game of runs,
a game of streaks. Duke comes back and as we
talked about briefly earlier, those last four minutes of the half,
Duke gets up eight and you think they're never looking back.
Whatever the spread was, they're covering it and doubling it.
(33:02):
And that's it. And you saw it times in the
second half, they got back up to around eight or so,
and you see, I never will did a lot of
that was Aubrey Dawkins, who was just unbelievable. I thought
his best player on the court, unbelievable. And that's including Zion.
What I'm saying, well with Zion really was the only
one who would take it to and and he has
(33:24):
incredible body control, you know. So it's it's kind of funny.
I said last week that Duke. I've watched more Duke
basketball because Zion's must must TV. And I told you
that Duke was really really Floyd, which I was right about.
But there's no second team for everybody love. Yeah, so
(33:48):
I'm not surprised that Duke had such a hard time
because I expected them too, because if they don't shoot well,
and what we saw is that, you know, there's a
real reddish at times looks unbelievable, beautiful shot, beautiful, perfect
(34:10):
basketball body. Sometimes he just gets lost Ray Jones and
shoot in the NBA right now, right now, okay, And
then you and Zion Williamson is just a freak, you know,
takes it to the hoop. But it's not like he's
an off. He's not the perfect offensive player in terms
(34:34):
of his shooting ability, has a strange shoot, you know, strange,
and he's gotten a lot better, but you know, you know,
so it's not And then Dawkins plays the game of
his life and you know, you you feel bad that
he missed that. You know, you felt bad that he
(34:54):
missed the dunk. It slipped out of his hands on
that beautiful all of you pass um, you know, and
then an all fan is the duke. You know that
I didn't think that ball hit the rim. I didn't
think it either. I don't think it did either. Just
the rotational the ball never changed, That's why. But you know,
so they go down for um, but then they come
(35:15):
back with you know, the Zion getting fouled, and Barrett basically,
you know, did you get away with the push? I mean,
I don't think you call it in that time. I
didn't to me, and I want I watched that a
lot today. I didn't see it at the time. I
washed it a lot today. I don't think that's called
at that point in the game. And listen, it's almost
(35:38):
like typically Duke Luck to Duke Luck, where everything kind
of goes their way. Sion misses the free throwe there's r. J.
Barrett to put it back in. And even still Johnny
Dawkins had his team ten seconds away from a victory. Well,
they looked like both of those shots were I thought
both of those shots were in the same okay, both
(35:59):
of them just like it was like rolled out of
bask Yeah, I mean it was amazing. Must have been somebody,
some big philanthropis. And if you watch coach Ka's interview
after the game, he felt guilty for winning. He did,
you really did. And and and my fiance watched the game,
was watching the game with me, and she doesn't really
care about college basketball, but she wanted, you know, she
watched his interview and she could tell and she was
(36:23):
really against ude because like, why wouldn't you really against dude?
I want to get back to that moment. But she's
reading against Duke because she was into it and I
was into it. And she watched that interview and she's like, man,
he feels bad for winning. But you know, Ken, I
don't see is much anti Duke because so it's I
don't I don't think people everyone always roots for the
(36:46):
underdog Okay, so there's if you don't have a rooting interest.
But number one, I think people generally love coach k
Like I caught a lot of flak by saying, you know,
how did the top three players in America wind up
at one school? Because no one wants to say anything.
And as he gets old, he becomes much more gracious,
and he's always been a gracious man. And then I
(37:09):
think people genuinely love Zion Williamson. They want to see
him play. So that's what he's gonna get to you.
Because typically, like I I remember when Duke fell to
Lehigh during the siege of a call in the years,
there was a single person that year that was rooting
for you outside you had any brackety bet on him.
But this year is different. You have people that I
spoke to that want to see more Zion Williamson want
(37:31):
to see more. RJ. Barrett want to see more, you know,
different path. Everybody else is saying Zion shouldn't play, you know,
and I said, that's absurd, you know, in terms of that,
because he's risking injury. You have this guy who's got
an incredible smile. He looks like he's having fun out there.
He's made different than any person that we've ever seen.
(37:53):
Will be the second heaviest person in the NBA when
he when he gets drafted. He's got explosiveness in embody controlled.
The past that he threw at the end of the
first half with one past pass the second half, the
bounce pass with the left hand right on the I
think it was the trade Jones. He's just unbelievable. O
my god. You know again, I don't think this is
Christian late in his Duke team, like where everybody hates them.
(38:17):
It's not this team more than any team that I
can remember even want to see more. I think what happened.
What happened is you always root for the underdog. But
I think when Duke won, everybody said, yeah, I'd rather
see Zion next week. Then then Taco. Although Taco Doudes
developed a lot of interest people have been talking about
like when he stands on his knees, he's still tall
(38:38):
in half the world, absolutely, and and it's amazing. But
the funny thing is, like I watched a lot of
Taco yesterday. Obviously he doesn't really you don't really jump,
just stands there and it's like jump you even just
jump didn't. But anyway, going back to the interview with
Coach K after the game, he talked about being gracious,
he felt bad for winning, and Judy was the one
(38:58):
that to hit it right of the money. He's like
Coach K is another Sweet sixteen is another shot on
national championships, another shot the final four for Johnny Dawkins.
That I mean that makes a career right go forward
Dukes superstar forward Duke assistant failed Stanford head coach now
in the and the kid was brought up at Duke
Aubrey Dawkins brought up in North Indurham, North Carolina. Your
(39:21):
kid being the star of the game, even more so
than Zion You the head coach at u CF beating
Duke beating you meant that this similar to say, if
Rick Bettina was coaching against Richard Sure, okay, exactly, I
mean exactly, there's a pot of him and and then
Richard Patino's kid is playing part of him that would
(39:43):
want Richard to win, but of course he wants to
win because he has the responsibility to his own kids.
He felt it's a mixed type, yes, and Coach K
felt you can see it because he knew how much
it meant to Johnny Dawkins personally, professionally, the whole and
it was about the Super Bowl short, it was. It
(40:06):
was a moment I felt horrible for all three Dawkins, who,
as I keep saying, you wonder Jim could ever feel
bad for anybody. That was a little bit different, I
think Doc because coach has been here so many times before.
For John and Jim, it was And it's also siblings
will want to kill each other. Absolutely, this is it's
truly a father son relationship with Coach K and Johnny Dawkins.
(40:28):
And you feel bad you really did right. And it
also depends on the age difference. I really don't know
the Haubows. You know, if they're very close, that's usually
and the two boys at sibling rivalry. I mean I
think that for example, it was probably pretty although they
don't really play against the Peyton and Eli because there
was an age difference exactly. That was that was fair
(40:49):
and and and that was fair. You know, there was
always like a five year age and between my brother,
so I was his biggest supporter if we were two
years apart, a little bit different. It's it's different because
you almost even though you're not really a rental figure.
You you know, you have that same type of pride
when there's an age difference type of deal. So that
was kind of the peak I think of yesterday's games.
(41:09):
After that, it kind of went all downhill. Um, you know,
some games are good for a little while and then
it's just well it was. It was really just to
wants to see who you were impressed by, right, And
that's what brings the Texas Tech who you were very
impressed by. Your said they played defense differently than everybody
because beerd did a hell of a job. Okay, So
what they do which is really really fascinating, Like you
(41:29):
grew up in in in in playing basketball, you always thought,
don't give up the baseline, don't give up. They forced
everything to the baseline and then a man on that
and zone away from that make the courts smaller. They
do it really really well. Yeah, and Buffalo had no idea.
Like I texted you, I thought Buffalo would be the
(41:54):
because they said everybody will be gone, but Buffalo. Okay,
there you know, and I don't count Euston, know Houston's
favorite in the game. I don't count Gonzaga the favorite. Again,
and Buffalo. Is this the second year they made a run.
Last year they won thirty games. This year they're really athletic.
(42:14):
They got run breaking jam and they had no idea
what to do. You know. Basically Texas Tech kept on
forcing them to the middle. Okay, they kept on going
into the middle, and then the next thing, you know,
the middle collapsed and they were turning the ball over.
It was like it reminded me of the way the
(42:36):
Devil's used to play the trap. You know, you remember
like this before they changed the rules and the end,
you know, the Devil's used to trap people and center
rice and Rangers could never get out of their zone.
It was that was there was That was their defense,
Like they basically trapped them to get to the places
where they want. And they've really really different defensively. Basically
(42:58):
they overplay everything and they pushed you to the outside
and then they're zoning away from the ball and it
looks like, man, it's really pretty complicated. You know, if
you if you're not prepared for tanks attack. Versus Michigan
on Thursday should be a very very good games. He's
the best coaching. Yeah, well, according to according to people
(43:21):
that coach again, you know, coach against him. He always
takes away what you He knows what and and and
and and knows how to put his kids into position
take away what you want to do. He's also like
the cleanest and you've and you've always said that, We've
talked a lot about how not clean certain coaches are,
(43:43):
both on and off the air, and even adamant that
John Bili the cleanest college, absolutely clean program. And you know,
I think that's one of the reasons. You know, Michigan's
finalists actually will be lying and then I did. They
were coming down from you know, all this stuff that
when down in the Fab five, and that was probably
(44:06):
a very important part of their fire. That friend that
friends not clean of course for friends, and and that's
what that's why they picked. You know, they only interviewed
people that they felt Benetts in that class. It's absolutely
in that class, you know, and these guys get these
so if there's anybody who's going to figure it out.
(44:26):
But they were a different type team doing that. And
Houston has great athletes. I mean I was you know,
Houston really locked. I mean you could see it the second,
you know, at the beginning of the game. That game
was close, and Ohio State just couldn't do anything against
against against them, really they really they really locked them
(44:50):
them down. You know when everybody's saying that Oregon Syndra
organ On was top you know, top end in the country,
five in the count um, but you know they you know,
they have athletes the lore and that's how you make
the Sweet sixteen. You know, you get two upsets and
they they play each other, you know, not that Oregon
(45:11):
is and that's how you go because teams have gotten
the power common absolutely. All right, Um, we have just
about ten fifteen minutes remaining in the program. So is
there anything Let's let's do who's your on the final four?
Let's I want let's wrap it up and say who's
going to the final four. Let's let's go through who
the games, will do them one at a time, and
then we should touch on Grong. Oh yeah, well I
want to get to gron But that's why I wanted
(45:32):
to wrap up the college football the college basketball stuff
before we did. So we got let me start in
the bottom region. We have sort of the toughest one
Michigan and Texas Tech. I took Michigan. I'll always stay
with Texas texts a lot better than I thought. I agree.
I think Michigan Texas Texas game the day on Thursday.
I'll also take Michigan, who I have in my final
(45:53):
four spoiler alert. Um, so I'll take Michigan there and
then it's Gonzaga Zagon Florida State. It team to beat
him last year. Okay, so far the State. No, I
was amazed how athletic. Yeah, um, I was absolutely amazed.
I thought Murray State was too quick for that. And
(46:13):
Murray State was blown out of the water. I mean,
they couldn't do anything, you know. You know, Florida State
plays above the rim. They shoot the hell out of it.
You know. I was really really, really really really impressed.
I think that their athleticism da okay, but I think
(46:35):
that not that I've seen Florida State a ton of times,
but when teams more athletic than I give them credit
to be and have lost as many games. Not that
they've lost a ton of games as Florida State, but
Florida State should be right with the Dukes and right
Virginia's in that conference and they're not. What I will
(46:57):
say is this is that Florida State has to be
in control. I think Anzaga does win ultimately. I think
we get Gonzaga versus Michigan. If it's a low S game,
I think Florida State wilts down the stretch. If Florida
State can just be tremendously it wouldn't surprise me if
Florida State is just so athletic and above the rim
(47:18):
and Gonzaga is not used to it. So I will
have Michigan coming out of that region. What about you, Doc?
That's who I had going forward. But I thought it
was gonna be easier than it is. Okay, I I
you know again, I wouldn't going into this. I thought
it was clearly going to be Michigan and Gonzaga. Wouldn't
be surprised if either of those teams loose things. Texas
text defense is much much better and maybe able to
(47:41):
take Michigan out of the game, and Florida State is
far more athletic than I ever thought. Right, So we
both have Michigan coming out of that region. Up top,
we got Duke taken on. Who's taking on Virginia Tech? Yes,
battle the A C C Virginia Tech team that has
beaten Duke in the path Buzz Williams versus coach Kay,
(48:02):
I think that Virginia Tech was the a C team
that I see team that I was least impressed with
that they had, you know, I think that was also
very not impressive, but you know, but that they were gone.
But I mean, I think that Virginia Tech has had
a nice, nice run, nice path too. You know, you know,
you're getting Liberty in the second round and stuff like that.
I think the Duke gets healthy again. Okay, I agree
(48:24):
with you. I think I get healthy as well. I
think Duke in that game and at the bottom of
the region. Unfortunately it's l s U taken on Michigan State,
like Michigan State and cash is Winston there. You know. Again,
my theory was that the n C I didn't want
l s U to go to the second week, and
here they are, and here they are. You know, so
I think that, um, and that's an interesting I mean,
(48:47):
you know, well, people shut up about coaches yelling at people,
and that was that was the stupidest thing. I can't
believe that was the thing. I really can't believe it
was the thing. Yeah, it was absurd, but go go.
I think Michigan State I think, like you know, again,
I I look at Michigan State in Virginia. I think
that once they could get past that first, they can
(49:07):
be agree totally agree with you so well, both in
Michigan State. The Michigan State will face Duke. What do
you think of there? You know, I think Duke beats them.
I think that Duke is more athletic than Michigan State. Agree.
Let's go now to the that top right region will
start with the two three. It's a very good game,
(49:27):
I think between Tennessee and Perdue. So I think that
the Duke can't be as good as they've been in
these two games. But I think that you know, there
are people that say that, you know, Tennessee got past
(49:48):
the Iowa point right, you know, just similarly to get
right game or Tennessee just let you know that you know,
UM Villanova two years ago in the clock out of
Iowa went on a huge role. I think that UM
Iowa gave everybody a blueprint how to be. I also
think to do wins. I think Tennessee has struggled a
(50:10):
lot this year. They've come out on top. They want
a lot of close games. I think produced better. I'm
really with Perdue. I I'm with you. I have Perdue
my bracket. I think Perdue well, I think that you know,
Perdue will zone them and then when they get confused,
through a man at them, just like what Frand did
at the second hand. You know, you know, you know,
the announcers kept on saying that, you know, France should
just stays zoned, stays zon but you know you can't,
(50:32):
and because then the shooters get too comfortable. I think that,
you know, I always showed that you basically have to
show them some zone, show them some man and and
and and you know the point guard really got frustrated
bone and all right, so we both take up Perdu.
Every picks been the same so far, and again I
think that that's going to be a game with three
(50:53):
days that Matt Painter has to Yes, and you know
who just watched the IOWA tapes France taking things about
Matt Painter. Yea a good guy. Yeah, he's like a
good guy. Virginia versus Oregon up top Oregon. As you
said before, top five team when the years started, obviously
lose ball ball. Virginia gets over the massive hump down
fourteen against the sixteen seed, come all the way back
(51:15):
obviously to win by fifteen. I have no problem in
the second round, a huge hump for them to get
over Virginia. Oregon should be a defensive battle. Yeah, you know,
so Oregon has gotten a lot better than they were
at the beginning of the year, even with ball ball.
Who I don't think it's gonna be I think bow ball.
You know, some people have him top five and half.
(51:37):
I think he's thought make a reincaldinated essentially. Um, Hayton
Pritchett's a terrific player. Um, I think he's going to
play in the Pros. But you know, again, a lot
of people don't. Um Paul White, it's a very nice player.
I think. I think Virginia beats him as well. I
(51:57):
think it's a good spot for Oregon. It's a nice job.
They don't it was a fantastic, fantastic coach, very good coach,
very good coach, great facilities. If anybody ever, of course, uh,
we both pick Virginia here Virginia per Due to go
to the final four. He got Virginia. I think perdu
there we go. We're a little different there. I'll think Perdue.
I think Carson Edwards gets them there all right, one
more reason to get to and that is that bottom
(52:19):
right U n C is the ones in Kentucky, the
two who do you seem his face on Friday Kentucky?
Remember who Lucky plays Kentucky Here on Friday we'll face off. Yeah,
every didn't blinking here? Ah, there you go Kentucky with
(52:41):
as Houston. That's two three matchup. Houston like Houston are
I think? I think so easily? Easily easily. I think
that's I think that, um, you know, now, one of
their best players didn't play j washing. I think, Um,
Kentucky's guards are not great. You know, Wolf Wolford was
(53:08):
able to get off what they wanted. I mean, honestly,
you told me that Wilford's best player was gonna shoot
over twelve from free pointing. I mean, if he shoots twelve,
Kentucky's home, you know. And that was not a game
where Wolford was out class, really wasn't. It's not like
Kentucky played above the rim and Wolford just shot the
(53:29):
ship out of it. Actually, Wolford shot worse than they
shot whole year. Um, Wilford shoots, you know, over played
a great game for them, Wilford shoots to their potential.
They win that game. I think Houston, really, I thought
Houston was one of the more impressive teams, really athletic,
you know, and I think that they're going to just
take the game to Kentucky. They they they God. I
(53:53):
think Cali Perry is an underrated coach, but I think
Houston is gonna win that game. I think Euston wins
that game by twelve. I alright, fair d of I
like Houston to win this game. I don't know by twelve.
I like Houston win the game. On top of the
region you winn't see an Auburn Alburn is one of
the most interesting teams in the tournament. There were also
a lot more athletic than I than I than I thought. Um,
(54:17):
you know, and U n C has played really, really well.
I think this game goes down. I really, I really,
I give Auburn real. You know, obviously it's hard to
picking on UNC, but I give Auburn real punchy alright,
we're up. He and that's you know, he's a great guy.
I mean, he's the most one of the most charismatic
(54:37):
coaches in the country. You can coach his ass off
nice Jewish guy, Bruce Prawl, but he's one of the
biggest cheatahs in the country. Absolutely absolutely. I mean, if
he calls you up about an investment, I don't know
if I would take it. You know, it's something like that.
I will take North Carolina here, I'll stake Houston. I
think North Carolina go to the final four. Um. I
(55:06):
think Houston beats or Burn Okay, okay, um, but I
think you know, I think North Carolina beat you fair enough.
All right, there you go. Okay, we'll get to the
rest of it next Monday on the on the program
where we'll have we'll know who the final four is,
will make our predictions of course, to who gets the finals.
On the Monday after that, we'll make our national champion predictions.
(55:29):
Have a strange feeling, we'll see. Be sure the Mike
picks you up. Okay, we have five minutes to go. Doc.
We've seen the last maybe of Rob Grenkossi. Gronk retires yesterday.
Drew Rosennass, the Agent, of course, is all over the
ESPN car wash today and he says, you know, I
want to go to the Patriots and be like let
him Miss otis let a miss training cab and come play.
(55:51):
Rock said no. But if Tom calls him and says
I need you, would he come back? Yeah? I think so,
so door not entirely entirely shut for Gronk is your
Hall of Famer, Absolutely absolutely, and I hope he doesn't. Sure.
I think I think that unbelievable player. You know again,
(56:16):
it's like if you're going the name, if you're going
to get like a big dog, and the two best
names might have been Buck, GISs and Quong. Okay. You
know it's like, you know, it's like if you're naming
your dog, you're naming him wronk. Okay, Like it's just
it's it's going to become in Webster's Dictionary Wronk. Like
(56:39):
you know what you mean by Gronk? Yes, okay. Um.
You know, as opposed to players like we talk about
Um Russell who never really get hits squared wrong, always
ran straight up right. Yes, he was moving fast, but
(57:00):
he would just take punishment after punishment. He's had multiple backup,
multiple knees and stuff like that. And you know, he's
a great personality. He's one Super Bowls. He is one
of the few people that would be you know, incredibly
(57:23):
marketable outside of sports. That the only reason to come back,
and it's it's a big reason. It's the same reason
we sit here and do this is the camaraderie, camaraderie
that sports and that loss. That's not the same as
being on the set of a movie. Um, that locker
room experience where you're you know, you bond with a
(57:51):
group of brothers. And I think that's a great sense
of loss, and that's what brings athletes back. But there
is no commons and reason he's taken so much punishment.
Like if he was a boxer, Okay, you know it's different.
If he was a quarterback, you know it's different. It's
like I never thought Brady was going to retire. Brady
(58:13):
hasn't really you know, yes, he's had his knee surgery.
Brady hasn't taken a huge amount of punishment Rock really
really has. I mean, I think leaving after the Super
Bowl makes complete sense as long as he can replace
the camaraderie. Totally agree with you. I think his body's
beat up enough, he's one enough, he has nothing left
(58:34):
to prove. His small sample size puts among the greatest
haight ends of all time. He's ability to block and catch,
and he's always going to be you know. It's like, so,
Jason Witten came back for several reasons. Okay, I'm sure
he missed the locker room, and I'm sure he missed
the game. He also couldn't find the second thing that
(58:57):
he was good at, you know, as opposed Tony Romo,
who has become amazing. You know, he was a good quarterback,
but he has a sensation as an announcer unless he
likes to play golf and and but he's become you know,
he's become an icon as an announcer. Jason Witten didn't
(59:18):
have that. I think, you know, he has so much personality.
I mean, you know, I think I don't think he
needs football to find things where he feels important. I
think so. I don't think so either. I'm excited to
see him at WrestleMania next year. And the last thing
to do is we close. Let's do pre season baseball prediction. Okay,
(59:45):
let's start with the Al East. The Al East vision.
Take the New York Yankees doc over Boston. You don't
like Boston's relief pitcher, but you know Kimbero is still
out there he is. He's not on that scene for now.
But you know, three blown saves. I'm with you, and
they'll payout. They'll they'll pay up. Both of them make
(01:00:06):
the playoffs. Yeah, I think they both do. Yes, Okay,
let's move on to the Cleveland Indians division with the
Cleveland Indians will run away with that division. Yes, pitching
is outstanding. Who do you see is being second down
division this year? It's down division? The Twins. You have
the white size, so that I think I think it's
(01:00:28):
gonna be the Twins and the Twins are trying to
go forth and twins of a good lineup, I'll say
the Twins, right. So you think Cleveland is in the
West Houston West Houston. Yeah, who's your second choice? Probably
Oakland because they're trying. You know, the AL is interesting
(01:00:48):
as opposed to the NL. AL is tremendously top heavy.
You can make a huge august the three best teams
in the in the in the a L. But after that,
you know, as they proverbally say, it's a you know
watch show. I mean, you know, as opposed to the
National League, where there's a lot of compelling arguments you made,
(01:01:09):
you know, different teams I don't think anybody's everybody you know,
Us Yankees, A Boston, take your pick at the top.
The other is going to be the wild card Okay
Houston in the West, Okay Cleveland, and then the second
wild card deal is choice. Do you agree with that?
I mean, I do makes sense. You know, it could
(01:01:30):
be anybody, you know, and it was always a lot
tougher and there was a lot lots offer and at
least is incredible, incredibly, I mean, everybody has their overrun
just for that four the five teams being over and
I want to just tell you, you know, not that
it means anything. I don't think the Balings have lost
the game in preests. Not a fantastic spring, a fantastic spring.
(01:01:52):
And you know, when you're a young team, that defense
makes it different. And you know they might have gotten
a lot of players. I mean, last time we got
the Marlins stunk. You know they did stink. But Christian
Yellow came out of team a t real. Yeah, it
would have kept him. Who do you like in the
NA East? This sounds like a surprise you. I think
(01:02:15):
I think the National is gonna win the ANA East. Really,
the National is gonna the analyst I think losing Harper
helps them. Okay, that's my A lot of people going
with the Nashville I'm gonna go out on a limb.
And I think that that division is you know, since
nobody's going to get a hundred and eight games in
(01:02:36):
that division, I think that pitching takes the Mets right.
I think that, you know, when you have parity, I
think you get into UM a bunch of games. And
I think as long as the Mets can put a
good starting picture out there every game to do that.
And I also think that Peterlanso maybe the real deal.
(01:02:58):
I think so too, actually, you know, and I think
that that could be the real difference if if you
know that, if Peterlanto can hit thirty home runs in
the middle of that lineup and they pitched, I think
that that can make a difference UM West or the
West now Central. But that's essential because I had that's
(01:03:18):
what I had prepared. I'll go to St. Louis Cardinals
wooting the division with the Cards all gold Schmid's all
gold Schmidt. They have some pitching. I like the Cardinals
a lot in Central. Why don't you like the I
know what it comes to the pitching. I don't know
that they have the pitching. I think Lester takes a
step back. We don't know what Katana is. We don't
know that you Darvish is healthy. I don't know what
the pitching is there about Milwaukee, same question. Hitting is amazing,
(01:03:41):
but do they have the pitching? They have the bullpen.
Could they do it again? Jeffers is her already? Cannable's
herd already, Josh Hayter is amazing. But who else is there?
Do they sign kimberl as has been rumored? So that's
another question. I think the Cardinals right now have it all,
so I'll take them and people like the Reds, Yeah,
they don't have enough either. They're trying, which I gave
him credit for. They don't enough. I'm gonna say that
(01:04:01):
the going back the Cubs, Okay, all right, I think
that Chris Brian you know, puts up and I you know,
I think that the wild card one of the wild
I wouldn't be actually shocked at both. I would be
surprised about that either in the West in the West.
In the West, take the Dodgers, Well, what do you
think of if Kurt she was hurt? I'm Okay, with
(01:04:24):
taking the Dodgers stuff and a lot of talent that
pitching stuff, do you think Buell is the real deal?
I think walking about Colorado, Yeah, I mean, I listen,
there'll be a wild card and they get a pitching
that they did last year from Harmon Marquez and Kyle
Freeland and John Gray bounces back. So I think they
have talent um. I think they'll be I think they
very welcome you wild card. I like the Dodgers through
(01:04:44):
to run away of the division. N L m v P.
You'r n L m v P. I think the n
L m v p' is between Cody Bellinger and Anthony
rend Oh ah, yeah, uh you don't think Bryce Harper
(01:05:05):
hits home runs in that band? He might, But I'll
tell you're picking the Cardinals and you're not. You don't
think it will be pulled. Take the Nationals. So I'm
gonna go with Chris Bryant. You pick in the confisent
makes sense, okay? And and L say younger would n
L say young award has just been dominant obviously the NLS.
(01:05:25):
I've given these picks on the air yet, so I'm
not sure. Um, the n L CY Young, screw it,
I go with Walker Bueller. I'm gonna go with the
gram So yeah, that's back to back. I'm gower and
pick there, um go to the A LA because your
a L m v P. I'm going with Aaron Judge.
Everybody's going with Aaron still my own home work pick.
(01:05:46):
Every everybody's going with Air Aaron Judge. Let me see
if I can come up with something. Well, Mike Trout
is like that's like that is like yeah right. Um,
you know I I really can't do better than either
Trout or you can't because you know you have two
(01:06:09):
things going for you. If either of those pops years,
there's no one who really even has the media prections
to get voted. I mean, it would have to be
such a dominant R. A. L. Young, Garrett Cole, Derrett Cole.
We're Houston, Yeah, w are you? I don't like to
(01:06:35):
say of I'm gonna go with Justin VERLANDA makes sense.
Just the Verlinder obviously a good pick World serious picks Stock. Well,
you know, you'd like to believe if the Mets got there,
(01:06:57):
it'd be tough to knock out in the playoffs. That
be much thinking. Um, I think I would go I
need to really go out in the womb. All right,
I'm gonna go with the Subways. Oh my god, Doc,
Mets Yankees, just for the just for the you know,
(01:07:19):
it's it's you know, it's I mean, I think Houston
is a great pick. I think Boston is a great pack.
So I will pick. I will pick the Houston Astros.
I guess the St. Louis Cardinals. I think that honestly,
if the Mets got to a short series and people
are healthy, would probably be sure. I understand it. I
(01:07:41):
mean I think that that that's that's that's the law.
I actually think, you know again, I've been encouraged that
I think maybe the real deal and that would be
the huge difference. You know, if you add pitching and
relief and you have a bopper that could be a
that may be very wishful. Then that if if that happens,
(01:08:02):
Brodie van Wagen and is the executive of the he's
the hero that you didn't know you wanted, but you
know you need it. But you know, we were possibly
I was positive about it. I said, successful people are
successful listening and you know, it's interesting. Last week when
we were on the air, Dave Gentleman was being interviewed
by Mike Frans as something that you gotta listen because
(01:08:26):
the way he speaks, he goes, well, Mike, you know
like people people don't you know, people know that I
know what I'm doing type of he is most arrogant
s O B Is it just me? No, it's not.
He is so arrogant and without without without kind of
(01:08:49):
the stripes to justify it. I mean, honestly, he is,
you know, you know, just really hard to root for,
so ridiculous. Doc. When we come back next week baseball
season we'll have started, we will have the final four
(01:09:11):
set and we'll be heading to the Masters. Will be
ahead not yet two weeks before that, but the Nastas
will be around the quarner. Oh if the Masters is
right after the April April, that's the Masses exactly is
you know? Because I used to remember it's the first
Saturday in May, but I guess April the six Saturdays,
(01:09:31):
first Saturday. But there it is a tradition like any other,
