The Toronto Blue Jays trounced the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night in Toronto, with a final score of 11-4. But yesterday's gone. Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is tonight, and let's hope the Dodgers, led by starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, can flip the script.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to Dodger Blue Dream. I'm Richard Parks, the Third.
It's Saturday, October twenty fifth, twenty twenty five. The Blue
Jays trounced the Dodgers in Game one of the World
Series last night in front of a hometown crowd in Toronto.
The final score was eleven to four. Rough one.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Garbage, garbage, garbage, garbage, like nothing good.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
I got on the phone with my co host Wes
Theovula to debrief right after the game.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
I don't know they're going to take one. I knew
that they're going to take one. Hopefully this is the
one that they're going to take. You know, Cauzy got
you need to let them get their egos hide.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
We told you that the characterization of the Blue Jays
as underdogs was a false narrative, and last night proved
that beyond a shadow of a doubt, with the Jays
relentless offense looking good against our ace pitcher Blake Snell,
who after a string of historically dominant outings, took the
loss here giving up five earned runs. The matchup of

(01:03):
these two teams going in was always going to be
what our dominance starting pitching could do against the Jays
relentless offense. Snell was struggling with his control, not in
the zone enough, and when he was, the Jays showed
us why they have the best contact rate in the
major leagues. And then the bullpen, which we told you

(01:23):
is the Dodgers' weakest area, which thus far in this
postseason hasn't really been tested, was tested last night and failed.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
They looked good until like the fifth or whatever.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Yeah, the Dodgers looked okay until the fifth, maybe the sixth.
We scored one in both the second and third innings
after loading the bases both times, which it would have
been nice to have gotten more in those situations. And
Snell had given up a two run homer in the fourth,
but that's nothing huge. It's a two to two game.
But then in the bottom of the sixth, the Jays

(01:57):
offense put the game away. It started with Snell giving
up a leadoff walk followed by a single. Then on
a full count, Snell beamed Dalton Varshow on his one
hundredth pitch to load the bases, he threw that pitch
that almost hit that guy in the face. Yeah, he
was not wasn't in control.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
No, he didn't have it.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts took out the hook and young
Emmitt Shean, who's actually a starting pitcher, came out of
the bullpen.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
They put up she and she like completely.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
He gave up a single with the Jays going station
to station, giving them a one run lead, and that
was followed by a bases loaded walk. Shean walked in
a run. Yeah, I mean, that's excusable. Basses still loaded.
That was followed by another single, giving the Jays another run.
Time for Dave Roberts to take out the hook again.

(02:49):
Doc calls for Anthony Bonda, our lefty reliever, to face
Addison Barger, lefty on lefty, and Barger hit the first
ever in history and most impactful pinch hit World Series
houls struggles Right. So the Dodgers are down zero games

(03:17):
to one in this best of seven series with Game
two tonight in Toronto at five pm Pacific time. And
we're looking for three major things from the Dodgers. Number one,
the bullpen. It's gotta be better.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
It was terrible. It's like and like, but who do
you put in? Who do you put in when the bullpens?

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Like that good question, because the Dodgers' bullpen situation has
recently gone from bad to even worse.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
You know, it probably would have been Vesia spot instead
of Bonda, who knows, you know, he usually he's pretty
good in those really fun, messed up, tough situations.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Alex Vesia, one of our key dogs and a lefty
out of the bullpen, isn't on the World Series roster
as he and his wife Kayla deal with a quote
deeply personal matter. The couple had announced in April that
Kayla was pregnant with their first child, and we send
our prayers to Alex Vesia and his family. But so

(04:18):
instead of Vessia, it was Bonda.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
As soon as he hit the home run the grand slam,
I was like, okay, no, thes my cab all they
getting out of here.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
I don't want to hear grand Salami in a home run.
You fun, they'll get out of here. And then I
was like, watch, they're.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Going to give up another one, and he did give
up another one.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
I was and by the way, after the grand slam,
the hits just kept on coming.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Can I get a out d just a random out?
They're like, no, let's clear the bases first, get somebody
else on.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
It's just it was really disappointing.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Yeah, the Grand Salami was deflating, but the two run
homer after that was like, yeah, yeah, once they get
to double digits, it feels different. It stopped, but you
can't hang this all on the bullpen and a less
than perfect start. To get this done against the Blue Jays,
the Dodgers' bats are gonna have to wake up. So

(05:11):
that's thing too the offense. The offense needs to come alive.
Suck because the offense hasn't been doing much this entire postseason.
Though it's been the pitching. Nobody's really been hitting all
postseason long. The starting rotation has really carried us to
this point, and we're gonna have to score more runs

(05:32):
to win this World Series.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
I feel like the Dodgers going to capitalize on a
couple of baits loaded like early on and just really
like stepped on them, but they didn't.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
The Dodgers loaded the bases against twenty two year old
rookie starter Trey Yasavage in the second inning but didn't
bring in a run, and then one inning later they
stranded Will Smith at third. In all, the Dodgers' offense
was three for seven with runners in scoring position and
left seven runners on base in Game one, the lone

(06:03):
highlight being sho hey Otani hitting his first ever World
Series home run.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Like show he gets a home run for nothing.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
We had like a lot of opportunities.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
A lot, and they just were not like capitalizing it.
It's like bass loaded with it.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Wes is singling out Andy Pies, our center fielder who
has had a particularly rough postseason.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
You know what I mean, He's like still Oero for thirty.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
It's like, maybe Bot should consider like putting in Kim
or call, you know, giving these guys a shot. Dude,
gotta try something different, especially if he's like batting before Showy.
It's almost like it's a guaranteed out. Like the last
month it's been just completely so.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
But it's not just Pies who bats ninth, but like
Freddy needs to get going. One of these guys needs
to get going.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Freddie and Tommy need to get going man big time, YEP,
giving sleeping MVPs.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
We're gonna need Mooki and Freddy to do more. And
guys like Tao Muncy even show He apart from the
home run, which was very nice to see, it kind
of had his number.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Apart from that, yeah, it's like, stop swinging at the
sweeper away, dude.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Our offense just hasn't produced to its potential.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Make that. Just start hitting the ball. It's not that HRD.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
All right. Third thing, yesterday is gone. It's all about today.
We need Yams to come out and have a really
strong outing. If Yoshiobu Yamamoto can keep the Jays bats
at bay and go deep into this game, we could
split these first two games in Toronto and head back

(07:48):
to Los Angeles for the next three games tied at
one game apiece. If we do that, I like our chances.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
I mean it's really disappointing, but I don't think it's
over till it's over them out like one game, we'll
see in the next three you know what happens.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
And we need to get away from this surprisingly spicy
Toronto Blue Jays crowd.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Because they were chanting we don't need you or something
towards the end of the game to show hey, I
heard that.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Yeah, so that was to show hey, like referring to
how they almost signed him.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Yeah, they're chanting that we don't need you, so that
I can hear that. You can feel like the fans
getting arrogant, you know what I mean. So it's like,
all right, we'll see, we'll see.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
It's one game.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Yeah, I was surprised to see such poor sportsmanship from
a Canadian crowd.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Yeah, it's all good. You know, they're they're really really
wanting one.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Maybe they just poked the bear and lit the fire
that will burn down the boreal forest metaphorically speaking. We'll
see what happens in game two. All right, it's a
long series.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
I'll talk to you all right.
