Speaker 1 (00:00):
First of all, you don't know me. Were all about
that high school drama, Girl drama, Girl, all about them
high school queens. We'll take you for a ride in
our comic girl Cheering for the drama Queens Girl Fashion,
but you'll tough, girl, You could sit with us Girl Drama,
Queens Drama, Queen's Drama, Queen's Drama, drawn MC, Queen's Drama,

(00:22):
Queen's You guys, Joy and Sophia just got their lunches,
and thank god, because this episode was lacking um in
lots of different ways that maybe a sandwich will make
up for. Yeah, I'm down. Let's see if that happens

(00:44):
all of a sudden. I'm you know, to be fair,
actually I did. I did like this episode. There were
a lot of things I liked about it, and um, yeah,
it was a bit of a bridge episode, as one
of those things that just sort of gets us from
point A to point B so we can kind of
close up some storylines and open up some new ones.
And uh so, you know, there were some things, there
were some two tree things that I didn't really like,
but you know, overall it was fine to the synopsis

(01:07):
give it to them all right, Well, you too chew.
I'm gonna give it to him. This is season four,
episode seven, All these things that I've done that's vague
um Air date November two thousand six. The synopsis is
Rachel makes the cover of Maxim, causing chaository hill high.

(01:28):
Brooke is still dating the teacher, and she learns he
may not have good intentions from Rachel, causing her to
decide who to believe that was ever in question? Yeah,
I mean, come on. Meanwhile, Lucas learns of Nathan's dealings
with Dante and ultimately has to choose between Nathan and
his love for basketball. Haley takes on babysitting, only to

(01:50):
find herself in over her head and Peyton's half brother
Derek forces her to confront her deepest fears. There's a
lot of learning in that synopsis. It's like Brook learns this,
Nathan learns this, Lucas learns this. Like that's a good
observation information. Did we learn anything nothing we didn't already know? Honey. Hey,

(02:16):
maybe you know those episodes where the fans are like,
quit making fun of the show, you guys are beating bitches, Well,
there was good stuff. There was good stuff, So let's
focus on this Brooks Fashion Show. Yeah, Brooks Fashion Show.
We're back in Brooks nineties romcom world. It's my favorite.

(02:37):
I'm so happy to see it. Um, I wasn't in
love with those clothes, but you know whatever, it's the
early odd listen that makes some space. That red dress
really had a lot of airtime this episode. Well, it's
also funny to me because that red dress is basically
a copy of Brooks Season one red party dress. Yes,

(02:58):
g G is wearing a red dress, Like, is the
only dress up outfit anyone knows of a red halter
top dress? Is that? It is that all we got?
And why am I having mouth put rhyme stones on
this girl? And and why is America's Next Top Model
on our show? I mean she's lovely, but like what
was happening? Man? That was Charity English and I used

(03:20):
to hang out with her at our upfront parties because
America's Next Top Model was the biggest show on our network.
It was such a big deal, and it was a
big deal for us to have one of their winners
on our show. She was cut, come on our show
and just talk to this boy about being a virgin.
That's all I need you to do. Let's just talk

(03:42):
to him about over and over and over again about
being a virgin. Nick the teacher is a sexual predator.
And then they're like, you know, we should really just
even it out, So let's make America's top model a predator. Guys, guys,
I swear we're not just gonna do this. We did
this in the last episode. It's okay, we're gonna talk
about other things, but you know, it's just hard to avoid.
It's there, it's right there by the way. We have

(04:04):
to talk about it because it keeps happening. And again
simply evidence that there were a lot of gross, horny
year old men in really writing their creepy man fantasies
like bro, I'm sorry, America's next top model does not
want to bang a high school senior. Stop it, just
stop it. It's disgusting. Joy, you said, I actually wrote

(04:27):
it down. You said, it's just exhausting. How wrote it
down to ste If you're sick of hearing us talk
about it, imagine sick talking about it. Imagine how sick
we were of having to do it. Okay, let's talk

(04:48):
about real life scandal. Did you have real life scandals
in your town. He was always in church, wasn't it. Well,
we had that too, Yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure.
It's always like somebody involved in like, you know, youth choir. Like, oh, yeah,
that's right. There was a Yes, there was a youth

(05:09):
group leader at my church who got involved with one
of the students. Of course. Yeah. I was on a
road trip with my dad and he was like, look
up my best friend from high school, and I did,
and his like old best friends, like a mega church
leader back home in Virginia, and the son of this
guy was the youth leader and definitely arrested around with

(05:35):
like kids. It's it's always always that. It's always that,
you know who I loved recently, I don't know if
you guys saw this video on TikTok, this amazing woman
and joy I was thinking about you because she's in Tennessee.
She went to like some city council meeting in Tennessee
and went off in that yeah, like in whatever town

(05:55):
she lives in, they were trying to pass, you know,
a terribly bigoted bill against drag performers. And she in
her like deep Southern accent. This woman is my hero.
She was like, I have never been assaulted at our
drag show. But you know where I have been twice
Church and like she just went off on like the
whole world. Always in church, it's always I know we

(06:19):
had like did you have in high school? She was
just great, Yeah, because we well I went to a
Christian high school, So there was that still that sort
of like that's a double way all the world. For
all the good things that I took away from that
in a foundation of faith in my life. I mean
that was really important and it is incredibly valuable. Um.

(06:40):
But you know the problem with any organization as humans, Yes,
those are complicated and um inevitably, in an environment where
you are trying to where the control of your behavior
becomes more important than um, the authenticity of your spiritual experience, UM,

(07:04):
you're going to have people freaking out, acting out because
they need to. It's not normal for us to have
our behavior controlled like that. Well, and then when you
layer money and power, you know, the ability to make laws,
the ability to be a tax free institution and become

(07:25):
one of the largest global landowners on earth, Like, this
stuff gets deeply complicated. And there's actually a guy who
will joy I know you're off Twitter, but there's a
guy who follows us and now I guess just follows
me and Hillary, but he responds to a lot of
the things we talked about on the podcast. I adore
him and he was actually uh, I don't know if

(07:46):
he was a theology student or a seminary school kid,
but he sent me some stuff recently about how there's
like full proof that from Aramaic even you know that
the way the Bible has been like mistranslated for power
and access that Leviticus in original translations said do not

(08:08):
lie with a child, and they can trace when that
was changed because the kings who controlled translations, who controlled
the book in the first place, made all their money
by marrying off their children for land rights. So if
you needed to marry your twelve year old daughter to
somebody's twenty five year old sons so you could increase

(08:28):
your old exactly, you know. But it's it's actually Sofia.
It's so interesting. It's almost like our boss wanted to
be a king. But there it is. But like but truly,
when you look at that, like the way that again
you said it, people are the problem. They'll they'll bastardize

(08:51):
ideas to accrue power, and money. Yeah, just human nature
can't get away from it. So yeah, there's always seems
so would be able to get away from it. But
I like your point, Joy that like you, you were
able to derive um like really important parts of yourself
from that experience while acknowledging like, yeah, this other is awful.

(09:15):
Like in my time, I loved my high school so
so so much. I loved it. I'm still friends with
all my teachers. I obviously, like still interact with everyone
I grew up with. I go home a lot. I
love that about you. I'll tell you what though, when
I moved to New York and I started telling like
my dorm roommates about the ship that would happen between

(09:36):
teachers and students, they were horrified. They're like, where are
you from? And even though that stuff happened at my
high school, Like for real, I'm still scandalized by One
Tree Hill. I'm still like they're kissing at the school.
Don't they know that you're supposed to meet in a
parking lot like down the road at the safe way,

(09:57):
Like there are rules to scandal that One Tree All
was not adhering to. Oh that's a that's a TV
show the rules, rules to scandal, scandal. They just kissed
in the classroom, that's regrets. But again, it's like it
all comes back fantasy to our wannabe kingmaker, to this fantasy,
this fantasy that you could have not one but two

(10:20):
like with Brooke and Rachel too hot cheerleaders throw themselves
at you when you're the teacher and one of them
happens to be on the cover of Maxim And then
the cute announcer boy has a model from New York
throwing herself at him. Like it's all sakes me off.
Like something that I noticed in this episode and it
just clicked for the first time, is that Lee's entire

(10:43):
storyline for the at least this far into the show,
has been him just waiting around for quote unquote hot
girls and then being told he's not attractive enough for
whatever this quote unquote hot girl this thing is, and
so now he's got to settle for some you know,

(11:03):
she turns out she's super hot, you know, big surprise,
she's all that. But it's like he thinks he's settling
and then realizes it's just so confusing to me that again,
Lee such a great actor, Why isn't he doing anything
more than pining after some He's just chasing girls around,
this idea that you have to do the right thing

(11:25):
by being with this insanely hot girl instead of this
insanely hot girl he won a model in competition. Like
what a martyr, you guys, what a martyr? It's just
so well And this was said in like so many
behind the scenes interviews and stuff. But the character of

(11:48):
Mouth was modeled on our boss, and so all the
girls kind of teasing Mouth is our boss being like
all of you girls are teasing me, and like we
have such a deep connect shin and all that grossness.
And then of course he casts, you know, a fourteen
year old to come in and play the one that
wants him, you know, and yeah, the nerdy one who's

(12:11):
obsessed because she can't be interesting unless she's what did
you say? She's like, I say, she has to be
horny or she can't have a personnelity. That's it. That's it.
It's like, how's Lucas doing well? He's he's percent at
the line, but he's a hud hot. I'm like, why
are we making this lovely, little funny girl say these things?
It's like it's cute in and of itself, if it

(12:32):
were out of the context of everything else we're talking about.
It's cute. That's like a cute thing for high school
girl to say. Also knowing the knowing the ick factor
of all of it. It just throws it in with
the whole bathwater. But joy, it would be cute for
g to say to us like wow, and we're all like,
oh my god, wait what, Like that's funny. Among the
girls she is asking mouth out and then drooling over Lucas.

(12:57):
It's like, that's weird. What word? I know? You're that's weird.
It's all just so weird, and and the hits keep coming.
It's not even just at the high school stage. Well
I shouldn't say just high school because you know Nick's
a teacher. But it runs all the way up the
line to Dan Scott going to bail debb out of jail,
going look at all these horrors, which ones mine? Oh

(13:19):
the old one, like what she's six years old and
she's described and why are all the women in the
Tree Hill Jail in Lingerie dressed up like again some
guy's fantasy of a prostitute? Like what is that? Literally
all we exist to be in this show skinny women

(13:40):
in lingerie who looked trashy. First of all, the prostitutes
I know don't dress like that. And second of all,
it's like we've established this as a small sleepy yea.
From all of a sudden, we've got we have the
night and the mafia. Guys. It's officially shark time where

(14:05):
the boat is going over. It's happening, all right, let's
talk about Rick Fox. Wait a second, is this just lame?
Is like, is our show turning into lames with like
all the women working down at the docks, and we've

(14:26):
got Jean Valjean, you know, like Nathan stole the loaf
of bread. Now he's got to pay for it. That's happening.
That would have but that would have been way better.
It would have been. I wanted a song and dance routine,
that's right. I met Rick Fox only a couple of times. Um,
he was always really nice to me. I think he
was too nice to work with. Yeah, like so tall,

(14:49):
so much taller than anyone who's tall and is Um,
he does a nice job. Is this his first acting gig?
I want to say, done some other stuff here and
there he had I remember he's so handsome. He's so handsome,
and he's lovely and and for as much of a

(15:11):
leaping over Sharks storyline as this is, he he does
have a very calm energy and there's a groundedness to
him that makes him spooky. And yeah, I I thought,
you know, again, for as silly as it is, I
thought he and James did a really beautiful job of

(15:34):
this together. You know, you can see in that last scene,
like when they win the game, but they've shaved the points,
like the way that Nathan's just hanging his head while
everyone celebrating around them. You really saw the impact of it,
and it was it was cool to see like a

(15:55):
whole new storyline for him that was really interesting and
about you know, emotional and moral conflict um inside of
a silly container. But I thought those guys did a
really beautiful job. And you know what I do remember, God,
as I'm talking about it, I'm like picturing the scene again.
I remember how cute it was to see James and
all the basketball boys get so excited when Rick Fox.

(16:21):
They were like, oh my god, And it was really
sweet to see them all like puppy dogging around asking
him questions about the NBA and stuff. It was cute it.
I think Conrad the guy who was like, you know,
the body man for Rick fox Um, what do say?
He and Paul knew each other like there was their friends. Yeah,

(16:41):
their pals, I think basketball buddies. Maybe it was cool
because Paul had always kind of been like the big
guy on set, and so now we have this bigger
guy on set and that was fun to watch, like
just just bros browing out and kind of just feeling
out the bronness of it all. That's always always talking

(17:03):
about basketball. Now. Yeah, they they had fun, and I
think it was important to your point that Rick played
the character super calm, because as unbelievable as the situation is,
they made it really believable how easily a naive person

(17:25):
could fall into this debt trap. Like it just it's
like Nathan slipped and whoops, here we are. Yeah, totally.
I think I feel like he loses his scholarship to
Duke over this. I could be wrong, but that's what's
in my memory. Anyway, he'd love to see I don't remember,
but Hayley's going to Duke. He's going to Duke. She

(17:48):
can figure out how to take care of a child. Yeah,
which the indication is not great considering the two kids
that she well, they're kind of were bratty kids. Where'd
you find that one of them? One of them was
Barbara allen Wood's daughter in real life, Natalie Lynn, who
is now starring in Big Sky and a bunch of

(18:09):
other great TV shows and movies. She's some wonderful actress
and girls are really sweet to see her face or
big brown eyes and those freckles. I missed her. She
was such a sweetheart. Um, yeah, that was fun. I
remember that was a fun day. And you know, I
don't really like other people's kids. You said that when

(18:31):
we're out of it, said, I was, by the way,
that's why I said, when when Hailey goes no, I'll
like ours. I said, Look, it's foreshadowing for you exactly. Yeah.
I wonder what that did you babysit growing up? Not really, No,
I don't know everyone. It's just it's just it's just

(18:53):
some people's kids. Some people I don't know. Like, I'm
really nice. I'll take them in small doses, and I
love being nice to a kid. Are like five minutes.
It's only you know what, Like my my friends who
have kids who I do love, or Maria's friends like
she's got you know, I'm sure you know to Hill

(19:13):
like Gus and George probably have friends in their own
spaces that you like, something you love, and some that
you're like, God, I don't want that little bull over here.
Ever again, I'm the exact opposite. I really I love
bad kids, like love them. And if I see like
certain mothers that are struggling, I'm like, please bring them

(19:36):
to my farm. I will win them over. I will
hit The struggling is a whole different thing than just
legitimately raising your kids to be apples. I like like,
I like, I like the challenge of a bad kid.
It's thrilling, too busy. I'm into it. I'm into it.
There are a couple of examples that I won't say

(19:58):
because I don't want any of my friends to like
know that they're the ones with the bad kids. But
I I relish a challenge. It's probably so funny. Explains
a lot of my dating life too. I'm just like,
you just give me the complicated little girl Almot fix
them right up? Yeah, hypnotizem. I'm gonna buy you. I
love the kids like Maria's got some friends who I

(20:20):
really really love, and those kids are like die hard. Like,
once you're in my heart, you're in. If anything ever
happens to you, I will take your kid for the
rest of like, I will do whatever, like whatever. I
love your child like my own. Um, but it's a
few and far between. Maybe that's a is that like
an introvert thing too? Well? Also because you didn't have
siblings growing up? I didn't, But I mean no, the

(20:41):
thing of like like it's kind of a hard shell.
But then once you're in, you're just like sucking you're
in forever. Yeah, but it's just hard to get in.
I have some my friends kids who are like that. Anyway,
we're really far down the road of optics it all.
I mean, if I don't know, So, if you did camp,

(21:02):
did you babysit? No? I didn't really babysit. My baby's
not a lot, did you he? Yeah? How do you
think I made my money in Sterling Park? Baby? That
was the only way I made any money in like
junior high. In high school, I watched all the kids
in the neighborhood and and you didn't really get a
choice because it was usually like like friends of your

(21:24):
parents or parents that saw you on the playground and
they're like, hey, you look like you can handle chaos.
Do you want to come over? Totally. I relate to
those parents so much now. There was a kid I
babysat for where any time I was over, you know,
it's pre cell phone because we're that old, and we
would get a phone call while I was sitting there

(21:46):
babies and this kid and it was from the prison.
It was like, you have a paid phone call from
Virginia Correctional Institute and it was their freepy uncle and
he'd be like, oh, it is so and so there
and I'd be like, no, not at home right now,
and be like, you're the babysitter. And it was always
like a dayline episode. And I continued to babysit for

(22:07):
this family for serious. Yes, I think you need to
check up on that family home hard pass, no, thank you,
Like those were the bad kids that groomed me to
grow up and have a soft spot for bad kids. Yeah,
And they would like those kids were bad. They would
do things like they would hide condoms in the house
so that their mother thought their dad was cheating on them.

(22:29):
Like when I'm talking bad bad. Oh that's terrible. Yeah yeah,
and so that that just feels like a little person
who wants to watch the world burn. I'm disconcerned. Yeah,
so these kids on one Tree Hill seemed harmless, Like
what's a spitball? Yeah, yeah, you know exactly. I also

(22:52):
think like the wads have just wet toilet paper all
over the walls. I'm like, has anybody ever babysat a kid?
Do you all know what kids do? They don't do this? No,
I mean they'll clog a toilet. Yeah. Yeah, Well, anyway,
it seemed like Hayley was having I did like her
running to Karen though at the basketball game and Karen

(23:14):
being like, good luck, kid, this is what it is.
Not helpful. It was also very sweet to see that
like redemptive moment, you know, after this struggle for Nathan
taking this money and shaving these points and having this
guilt at the end of the game, even though they're
going to stay, that sweet moment where you're watching him

(23:38):
with those kids. It was such a nice way to
remind the audience what he was doing this for, like
what he was making the mistake for, And it was
so so sweet. That was just purely sweet. Did you
guys remember that night? Do you remember show me that night?
Because I was there. We did everything at that gym,

(23:59):
a new hand over high school, all in one night,
and I remember the three of us hanging back at
the other side of the gym talking about how hot
James was with the kids because it was like Barbara's daughters,
so Barbara was there too. We were all hanging everybody
was watching, going, oh yeah, that was I think that
was my first wake up call, like James is hot,

(24:19):
like clock before, because you guys, this was the moment
where we all were like, oh, he's not a baby anymore. Yeah, exactly,
this is very thirteen year old. He's a big boy,
Like he's he's holding a baby. What's happening? All of
our all of our wounds just open, our booms start hurting, like,
what's going on your over ache? I totally remember that.

(24:46):
It wasn't just us. I even remember Barbara being like,
I don't I'm uncomfortable. He could be a child. Those
are my children. What's happening? Yeah, yeah, good for him. Honestly,
he should just always have a baby on his hip,
you know that would be cool. James carry this child around.
We like it. I mean, I guess it's gonna have

(25:06):
to do that for the next How many seasons did
this go? Oh yeah, believe me, it's coming, don't you
worry coming. So what happened with Peyton in this episode?
She was still afraid dumb bulldog, mural bulldog. You guys,
it's not right. If anything, we laughed a lot this episode.

(25:27):
We did you know what I loved that? You said? Hillary, Guys,
for all of our friends at home, we're watching the
episode and that bulldogs on the wall, and Hillary goes,
nobody in the writer's room has ever been a teenage girl?
First she went dork door, dork with your dog over

(25:49):
your bed, the evolution the dog, all the things that
Peyton would have drawn to protect herself. This girl who
is like lives in darkness and makes pa angel and
all of these deeply dark. She walks through cemeteries. She's
going to draw a picking bulldog on her above her
bad gray dog. Bulldog doesn't even protect you in a fight,

(26:10):
you know what I mean? Dog breathe. She would have
like drawn a spell on her wall or some kind
of like I don't know, just fat little pub dogs
who can barely walk. I should have been like bats,
you know, like that's what I'm saying. That's a rattlesnake.

(26:31):
How about a wolf? A wolf at the very least, right,
it's like a little cliche, but okay, I mean a
bulldog grabbed your pant leg, and it's just like the
evolution of like the bulldog. And then I'm like sleeping
under it, and then I'm like still working on it.

(26:53):
And then I put Derek's name on a heart on
the name tag burning car or what's really bizarre? Okay,
do that gircas Derek's her brother. It's real Derek, not
psycho Derek bho. I did not catch that. Okay, the
bulldog is dumbish, But I will say I thought you

(27:19):
did such a beautiful job in this episode. And for
as much as we've been talking about how at the time,
you know, in two thousand six we were not doing
a good job talking about the reality of the effects
of a traumatic event on a young woman, Peyton having
panic attacks is finally a real acknowledgement of what she's

(27:41):
going through. Yes, and we're finally getting to a point
you know, it's like some dummy. Not only are they
dummies about dogs, but they're dummies about apparently boys, Like
some dummy thought that because real Derek is a marine,
all he's going to do is scream at you, and
eventually that calms on and he apologizes. Like I feel

(28:02):
like we're finally getting somewhere, even though the container has
been a little sloppy, you needing to leave school, showing
how triggers around a person can re ignite their traumatic event,
you know, him finally being able to see you and
saying like tomorrow will be six minutes instead of five.

(28:24):
Like there's a couple of nuggets of good advice and
of honest acknowledgment here, and you really you brought those
things to life in a way that made them feel
very real. M hm do you guys? I didn't think
about util We just started talking about it. But like
Nathan also just did the panic attack storyline right like

(28:46):
the PTSD I'm freaked out storyline, and they feel different
though they feel well. I just think the importance of
writer's rooms and in having variety in your voices in
a writer's room would have made a big difference here,
because we're recycling storylines over and over again. It's like

(29:08):
Rachel hooked up with an older dude, and now Brooke
is hooking up with an older dude. Nathan's dealing with
the panic attacks, and now Peyton's dealing with a panic attack,
and we're not connecting the dots in a way that
facilitates story, right. It just seems like, Yeah, it's like,
at what point would Nathan go to Peyton? You know,

(29:30):
Payton's gone to Nathan a bunch of times and been like, hey,
you seem to be falling apart. How can I help? Um,
that's not reciprocated yet. Maybe it happens. I don't know.
I guess we'll find out. Um, but it's if we're
gonna repeat things, that has to be for a reason,
make it makes sense. Um. I do like that Ernest

(29:53):
calms down, though I didn't like that they made him
a yeller because yeah, bit a tough marine. Uh weird.
It's like, why is he yelling at her? Why is
he always mean that this girl he doesn't even know?
And then also the timeline just got wonky for me
because he says that my dad left my mom for Ellie,

(30:16):
but he lived with us until I was a little
bit younger than you, So like if if our biological
dad left when he was like twelve, let's say twelve
or thirteen, is he twelve or thirteen years older than Peyton? Like,
it doesn't make any sense people. That's the kind of

(30:38):
that takes me out of a story where I'm like,
the math is wrong, guys. I think we did a
lot of that on our show. It was It's the
same thing as the marine based like Chad rolling up
in the room the homework. Here's what I'll say that
I follow Ernest on uh Instagram. He's an artist and
he just had a baby. We need to get him
on this show. I know, I know, we do. I

(30:59):
like him so much. He's got full white hair now,
so I totally believe that we are brother and sister
because we are both pretty surely gray and just like
I'm good with it, like fine life. Yeah, you know,
I loved him on this show because it was such
a He was just a refreshing presence. Yeah, he was
a little yelly at first. They had to calm him down,

(31:20):
and you know, they had to calm the writing down
from directing him to do that, I guess, but um,
but he stuck around for a little while and it's
it's just so nice to see his face whenever he
pops up on screen. I mean, he's great to look at,
and he's a nice actor. But I think just the
it's just refreshing to get outside of the what we're

(31:42):
talking about all the same recycled stuff with all the girls,
and um, you know, Nathan and Haley are kind of
seems like we're running out of storyline, so you can
flirty this episode with the like, hey, you're winning all
these games. That's hot. I'm going to do it. It's
gonna be like, yeah, that was fun. You're blocking what

(32:03):
they lacked in the writing for you, you're making up
for in the blocking. Yeah. Thanks, Yeah, And it's see
it's nice to see Nathan and Haley flirting and playful.
It's like you you want to know what they're holding onto,
what they're fighting here, you know. It's it's lovely that

(32:23):
in the midst of even financial stress, you see who
this couple is. That's that's the kind of thing that
as an audience member, helps you kind of keep the
faith alive. You know, Yeah, right, who else? Did what

(32:45):
else do we have in this getting arrested? Okay, so
one time I stayed in New York City in the
apartment of it was like a friend's friend and I
was shooting a pilot in New York and I had
my daughter and the nanny, and I was like, I
just they're not gonna put me up, Like, how are

(33:06):
we gonna do two rooms every So I'm just going
to get an airbnb. Well, as I'm talking, uh, somebody said,
I know somebody who's got an apartment, and it was like,
it's a gorgeous place, um on one fifth Avenue. So
it was like, really for for anyone who doesn't know,
that's the building that um Carrie bradshop you lived in
in the in the Sex and the City book. So
it's like a big I was like, oh, that's so exciting.

(33:30):
So I stayed there for we were there for a month.
It was great. Anyway, the guy whose apartment it was,
or the husband of the wife's apartment was he's a
doctor and he had a prescription pad in the um
in the kitchen, and I didn't know this was like
I don't know, ten years ago, maybe now probably seven. Anyway,

(33:52):
I didn't know that you that prescription pads are special.
You thought it was stationary. I really just thought it
was like you could just write, so I would use
it all the time, taking notes down on my phone,
leaving leaving little notes when I left the house, like
love you, sweetheart. You know I'll be back at eight
tonight whatever. Probably twelve fifteen pages of this this prescription pad.

(34:17):
No idea. Why was it just sitting at home? That's
so illegal. It was just in a path. It was
like in a drawer in the kitchen. I just was like,
I need something to write on. Open to drawer and
I was like, oh great, here's some papers like doctor
stationary on it. I was like great, and uh yeah.
So definitely got a phone call about that after I
checked out of that house. Yeah, big problem. I mean,

(34:40):
good thing. I wasn't doing what deb did and like
trying to actually write fake prescription. Let this be a
lesson to all of you. Those prescription pads are accounted folks. Yeah. Yeah,
I mean he he had to the doctor had to
like literally report damaged pages. Yeah. Probably. Yeah. I had
no idea because everything people like I'd grew up with

(35:03):
zero history or information about the medical community at all,
just was not My family was a creative and a
teaching family, but had nothing to do with medicine. So
have you never told me? It feels like we have
to get domt notarized all the time, like they should
have to have like a stamp on those things like
that serious business paperwork. Also, these are the kinds of

(35:26):
things that in schools should be taught. There's like a
life skill class missing from every high school in America,
by the way, the fact that we have no financial
education and we don't have civics anymore, like they literally
took civics out of school, so people don't understand how
the government works or investment or just like how did

(35:48):
you change the filter on your conditioners when you're in
you're supposed to you have to like google how long
are you know, fill in the blank, leftovers good, like
anything relevant. But but but I I do know that
you know, we had a civil war. I know that

(36:08):
we had I know, seventeen seventy six. Boy, that's just
really driven home. It's like, what are we what are
we doing? What are we doing? What are we teaching
these children? Maybe if these kids in tree Hill had
that class, they wouldn't be like kissing the teachers and
you know, having babies and all the craziness. Is that
what Home Mac used to be and then it got
canceled because it's was supposedly sexist, well know as treasurer

(36:32):
of Future Homemakers of America, the Sterling Park Um. It
was about the domestic arts which boys and girls should know,
but it targeted, like the salesmanship was bad at targeted chicks.
Although the boys I knew that did Home Mac with
me had the best time ever and they were like
the better boyfriends in high school. Look, I think I

(36:54):
think it's a problem. You know if you look back, Yes,
it we ab. We should never have had a system
that was like only the girls are going to learn
to cook and only the boys are going to learn
wood shop. So if the answer was not to take
those classes away, the answer was to make everybody take
home back and make everybody take fucking wood shop. Do
you know how bad I wish I could build myself

(37:15):
an outdoor couch? Do you have any idea how expensive
those things are? I don't want to pay for one.
I want to build it. I'm so annoyed. Give me
a wood shop class. Where's that class on our show?
I don't know. We should have had a wood shop
class who shop. Oh and car mechanics. Yes, we called
it votech We had we had tea and then we

(37:38):
had votech for vocational technology. Right now there's a big
votech Um where my husband is from. Yeah, and it's
awesome fun and they're doing, um interestingly, they're doing a
lot of like, uh, wind powered. Oh that's crazy. They're
like engineering for for wind farms and stuff, which is
pretty cool. I love that. I mean, we just want

(38:01):
to know how to do anything. Did we ever have
any class Entree Hill except English class? Like that's definitely
the only one I ever remember us being in. Yeah,
I don't know, that's funny. We didn't. We didn't do
a whole lot of school school, even though the whole
show took place school. Where's where's like the end of

(38:25):
the year report? We all have to do with that
styrofoam board? Where's my traff old board? Yeah? He has
doing one right now, just to build a model of
this the building that this murder Mr. She just read
take place in like dioramas? Why are we making diamas?
Where was our book? Fair? That was my favorite? When

(38:48):
it's fair? The best nobody was making like ice and
yelling at plants and playing classical music for the other one.
Nobody was doing no nothing volcanoes. Yeah, I loved it.
They are not going to pay for like a science
classroom with like beakers. They're like, we can't afford beakers.
We're paying for another fashion show. We've got rhinestones to buy.

(39:13):
We have rhinestones to buy and adorned America's next top
liter are all the things that normal teenagers do. I
don't know, but I will say I the teen bickering
again of Brook and Rachel just makes me so happy
that like the up and down of these two, they're

(39:34):
on like a hyper speed see saw of love and
hate with each other, and I have so much fun
watching them. And the line of all lines in this
episode do it You're just a slutty, lying liar who lies.

(39:54):
Put it on my body. Put it on my body.
Loved it. It's like I wanted on a show, but
I don't because I don't want to call it girl sluts.
But god, I need I need, Like I don't know
if it's a sticker, I don't know what it is,
but I need something. Yeah. Well this was Adell Limb
writing this episode. Who I really like? Um crazy rich
Asians is Adele and then I worked with her on

(40:16):
Lethal Weapon, which was a nice little She might have
been on White Collar too. I feel like I've worked
with Adele on a number of different things. Um, but
she's so good and so this one was snappy. This episode, Well,
the thing is, that's it. It's like we get dorky,
dorky storyline and a good writer. We'll take the dorky

(40:36):
storyline and like pick it up. And you know she
she had to look at that white board and be like, Okay,
well I gotta shut this in and I gotta shut
this in, and I guess we're gonna fit this in.
Put that bulldog in there. It would be great. It
keeps the monsters at pay. You guys that she made
it make sense? Um, what about Okay, we have to

(41:01):
talk about the Dan and Karen and the truth of
it all, because Dan's with this new haircut. Is new
Dan who's making sense here and there, like not giving
Nathan money and not you know, not being a total
old to Karen and saying like no, dev is incapacitated,

(41:25):
Like you need to take this business otherwise it's gonna
fall apart. It's so complicated. When Dan does the right
thing because you think it's it sort of feels like
he's handing you a grenade, you know. But what was
so interesting to me was when we were watching the
scene and he was saying to Karen, look, you've got
to do this, regardless of how you feel about me.

(41:45):
Deb's a mess. All three of us said, well, I mean,
he's right, and then literally thirty seconds later, he goes Karen,
regardless of your feelings about me, you know I'm right,
And I was like, well tell me, I'm all right. Okay,
if you just hadn't have said it, it it could have
and charming, but he had to announce, hey there, little woman.

(42:05):
Was this this season that Paul got bumped to recurring
because he's not showing up as much, but he was
directing a ton I think that was the trade because
he directed the Cabin, He directed the last episode, the
last episode, so he was in post during this episode.
Oh right, that's why they didn't write him a lot.

(42:25):
They were suddenly like, not in it very much after
being so heavy, and then he's going to direct our
fight episode coming up soon too, Like he was directing
like every third episode. What episode the one where crack
Sofia skull with my head. Oh you guys have a
my elbow. It was like an accident, an accident. Well, yeah,

(42:49):
we just we were choreographing in on one when we
were supposed to you know, we were supposed to go left,
left and right. We just kind it was bad. They
was bad, and I was like, we're done. We're done. Anyway,
we'll get there. But Paul was directing lots of big episodes.
I think it made sense to have someone in house

(43:10):
that there was a shorthand with, you know, who could
handle the big stuff. Yeah, okay, what else did we miss?
I mean, the creepy teacher is out of the picture.
Now are we done? Now? I don't know, Please I
get fired. What happens? I don't remember. Guys, he's got
to go away, you know, because he's going to win
the next episode. Because even when he kissed you at

(43:31):
the end, you had this look on your face like
mmmmmm bottle. When the red dress, oh right, that's right,
that happened in the middle and then the model yeah yeah, yeah.
It was the best part of the episode because it
was the double slap, that double slap, that's right back
this way and then I hit him this way. I mean,

(43:52):
he deserved it. Double slap. Oh God, it made me
so happy. Okay, we have a fan question. This is
from Tara. She says, my fan question comes from scenes

(44:12):
where fights or other violent actions take place perfect exactly.
For example, when Hayley slaps Rachel Or Brooke and Peyton fight,
do you have to channel some sort of anger or
anything to get through that? And even more important, what
happens when you hear cut? Do you instantly start laughing?
Does it take a second to snap out of it? Well?

(44:33):
I I feel like our immediate reaction is good, You're good. Okay,
You're good. You know, like there's a check in that happens. Um.
We talked about it and like the Derek attacks scene
about how Matt bar was really concerned with like everybody
else in the room. Yeah, but I think mostly people
are just concerned about the choreography of it. If nobody's

(44:55):
like you don't, I mean, that's another level to be
able to have the anger emotions but control them enough
to be able to maintain your choreography. I don't. I
don't know that I've ever had to do that. It's hard,
it is, it's tricky. I mean, look, you your job
is to personalize what is true for your character. Um, yeah,

(45:22):
but in moments when it's so fast. But what I
was going to say is sometimes it's easier to do
with your friends, and sometimes it's even harder. And yeah,
I think the thing that can be helpful, like you've
got to get in the feelings. But then yes, you
have to be conscious enough in the action to make

(45:43):
sure you're safe and that that requires a sort of
merger of like the art, the emotion and the technical.
And it's yes, it's intense. Yeah, it's hard. I've never
had to fight somebody that I didn't like, Like, I
don't know how I would do that because then you

(46:04):
then you like overcompensate and like like I don't want
to go too hard because I don't know if you
can hate them, you know, trying to think of it
how to fight somebody at the day. Yeah, what a
weird thing to have to do, just like I hate you,
just kidding, but yeah, it sucks. Yeah, I think it's

(46:28):
it's interesting, isn't it to think about that now and go, oh, yeah,
we all I only really had to do that with
each other, and we had relationships. It would be weird
to show up on your you know, your first day
at work and have to fight somebody Like I had
to do a lot more of that working in Chicago.
I would meet people and be like, hey, what's up,
So I'm gonna break your notes? So tremendously awkward. Um,

(46:54):
but no, you're right. I've never I have never had
to have a physical fight with another person who in
life I did not like. I have had to kiss
multiple people. Really grossed me out, And I don't know
what is worse. I honestly, I think the kissing is worse.
Worse for sure. I can't make up my mind. I

(47:20):
can't decide. Sometimes, like the people that you hate the most,
you end up like those kisses look the best, Like
oh that's true, I mean it's yeah, yeah, that's always
the best. When people are like god, they have great
chemistry and you're like, oh, that's not chemistry, that's pure
white hot rageing doubt write it. Yeah, fine, kiss me,

(47:44):
hidden love it. I love those I love doing stunt stuff.
I had to do a lethal weapon where I had
to there's like huge fans that like will hold your
body up like your skydiving and Clin Crawford and I
had to pretend like we were jumping out of a
building that exploded or something crazy, and you just you
have to run at full speed and then they flip

(48:07):
this thing on and it shoots your body up into
the air and you just have to trust it. Man.
That was crazy. Yeah, it was. I was a little
like this seemed like fun and theory, I'm gonna go
back to kissing and crying. Yeah, I remember being I
got to a point where I was like, maybe I

(48:27):
don't like stunts as much as I think I do.
When like I got really hurt, had to go to
the hospital and like get a cat scan and an
m R. I to make sure. I didn't like me
to be hospitalized. And then they were like, well they're clear,
so you've got to come back to work and finish
the day. And I was like, I'm I can't walk, um, yeah, okay,

(48:48):
And I just went back to work and I was like,
I don't know about this anymore. Maybe I need to
do things a little differently. I want a job like
the boys get when they get old, where they just
play angry cop and they sit around and they grunt.
And then they were these for it, bratchy cowboys. I
could sit on the back of a horse all day
and make faces. That's what I'm saying. I know you

(49:12):
don't want to spend a wheel. Let's do it, alright, kids,
Who is most likely to do TikTok dances with you? Guys?
I'm not, I'm not not. I mean, I guess Brooke

(49:33):
at the time. If TikTok had been out, Brook probably
would have been doing bok and Rachel would have crushed TikTok. Yeah,
with those like hippie dances those girls do when they
make their hips looks like they're made out of like
ocean water. They're so they're just so water. Yeah. But

(49:54):
like in real life, who's doing them? You know what?
Barbara's daughters are going to say it? Yes, and I
feel like Barbara's into Barbara Good at social media. Yeah,
those girls, they are always on cool trips, hanging out
with their tribe of like loved ones, having the time

(50:16):
of their lives, looking gorgeous. Yeah, and it all started
being the Brady kids that Hayley baby said, he I
love it. Congratulations to our young ladies, Well thanks for
joining us. Wait what happens next episode? I really don't know, guys.
