Bells going for a minute and it's an honor to
be a part of it this year. You know so
many legends, man, it's even just being on this call
with all these legends.

You there, right, yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:56):
I mean, what up?
Speaker 3 (01:58):
So what made you? What made you say? Because because
this is a this is a festival type of thing,
what made you start Rock the Bells? I know we
have we have the radio station which rock Sanders.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Did right now?
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Yeah yeah, but what made you start the festival? Take
it to the road.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
I wanted to see, you know, as all of these
incredible acts, with all of these their lyrics, their talent,
the ability to perform, I wanted to see them treated
the way that they deserve to be treated. I felt
like I felt like certain aspects of the culture were
being marginalized A little bit. I felt like, you know,
the people that I loved, the people that I celebrated,
the people that I've been watching and enjoying, weren't being
(02:38):
put at the right level and given the right type
of platform for them to be seen and enjoyed by
the fans. And so I said, you know what, it's
time for somebody to step up and let these let
these artists shine. They're like incredible, amazing artists that deserve
to be heard and seen. And it was really that simple,
you know what I'm saying. It wasn't It wasn't rocket science.
(02:59):
I really love right, they can't any to see everybody shine?
You know what I mean, Right, I believe. I believe
that I believe. You know what I'm saying, Yeah, you
(03:23):
get it. I mess this is the truth, Nori. I
mean like it's you know what I mean. It really
is that simple, you know what I'm saying, a lot
of people, you know, a lot of people are chasing
whatever the moment, the trend of the moment is of.
But in reality, there's a time of the sound here
and this is about the past president and forever. You
(03:43):
know what I'm saying, This is the past president and
the future, you know what I'm saying. And if the
Rolling Stones and all of these acts can keep going
and keep and YouTube can keep going and rocking and
having beautiful careers, and why can't Big Daddy Kane and
rock Sy and Shante and Freeway and you know what
I'm saying, Like all the groups on his scar face
face mob like, why you know it's about them, This
is their moment, this is their platform. Rock and Meddles
(04:06):
is for them, It's for for our coach.
Speaker 6 (04:09):
You know. The funny thing about that guy his face?
How's everybody? The funny thing about that man is? I
know L is sincere about it? You know what I'm saying.
As a little kid in New York, I came to
the New Music seminar and I was on a pyphone
(04:32):
with my mama and h L didn't know me from nobody,
And I said, I say, l L, he's walking by.
I say, Hel, I'm on the phone with my mama.
Say hi to my mama. The man got on the
ain't lying in my line? L.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Now you're not lying at all. You remember this that
we talked about it a few times.
Speaker 6 (04:55):
Sure, Hey, hey, uncle face, what's that that so I'm
just saying, man, it has always been a part of
my life like and in big, big, big instances.
Speaker 7 (05:07):
Man.
Speaker 6 (05:07):
And and he's always been that kind of cat man
around me that I saw that always wanted us to be,
you know, big in that in that in that light
of hip hop.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Man. He always wanted to showcase us. Man.
Speaker 6 (05:20):
Even when Rock the bell was small, he still let
us get down. He let me get down, you know.
And now Rock the Bells is big, and he keep
letting me get down.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Man.
Speaker 6 (05:28):
I appreciate that, you know what I mean, We appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Bro, No, I appreciate you all.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
How many Rock the Bells have you done?
Speaker 6 (05:35):
Face face, I've done a lot of them. I'm gonna
do them all I did. It's like a high school
reunion man with my peers. Man, I love and the
rock saying the mother hipop in my opinion, And can't
nobody tell me no different. It's been always been like
(05:57):
a big sister to me. And all he can do
when we see is just laugh because he is so funny.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
What's going on? Swim? Please believe it?
Speaker 8 (06:10):
Baby?
Speaker 1 (06:11):
You let me tell you.
Speaker 9 (06:12):
When I was listening to how he was describing Rock
to Bell's if no one can testify or if no
one can be the face of what Rock the Bells
does for the classic hip hop artist, it's definitely Rocksy
and chante.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
That's right, you know what I mean. When I.
Speaker 9 (06:30):
Started from just an interview, like he was doing an interview,
he was interviewing me about my movie, and he said,
you know what, the world needs to hear your voice,
and they need to hear it every day, and I'm
gonna make that happen.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
Be Just watch me be. I'm gonna make that myself.
Speaker 9 (06:49):
He's never been a person to sell dreams. That's the
reason why he doesn't have nightmares. You see what I'm saying.
That's why he looks so good, because he is good,
you know what I'm saying. And so one of those
things that made me sit back and smile was that
someone said to me, when they think about Rock to Bells,
they look at my life just in the time that
I've been on Rock to Bells and have seen the difference.
(07:12):
Because that is what he wanted people to see. He
wanted to make sure that we weren't shelved and forgotten.
He wanted to put us in that that forefront and
let people see like, look, we can do this like
rock and roll artists. We can do this like country artists,
you know, see and respect hip hop the same way
you do those other genres of music. And the only
way to do that is to respect the artists that
(07:32):
do it and those that created it and those that
were there that fought for it, you know.
Speaker 6 (07:38):
So the deal y'all? Yeah, and he's providing. He's great,
and I know I am, and I can speak for
everybody out here.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Be grateful to be a part of this.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
Man.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
This guy has went on with his life.
Speaker 6 (08:01):
Okay, you know why his phone is breaking up right
now because his house is so far up.
Speaker 10 (08:07):
In the hills and he's way out the.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
Way, out the way.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Man.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
The coolest part about it, yeah he up, man. But
you know what he do though? The boy reached back
out man and grab this man. Yeah, all right, how
you doing? You? What I mean too?
Speaker 4 (08:31):
You dude?
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Okay, excuse me, gosh, don't pay me no money?
Speaker 11 (08:36):
I can't Yeah this is so hip hop.
Speaker 12 (08:44):
Yeah, you can't even can't make this ship up.
Speaker 13 (08:48):
I don't know how to put this on pause.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Yeah, thank you?
Speaker 3 (08:51):
So cheeks?
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Yeah, what up?
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Your cheeks is this your first Rock the Bells.
Speaker 12 (08:58):
Now my second, blessed to be my second, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Where was your first one, queenz baby, no doubt last year.
That's right, that's right, that's right, that's right.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
I was dead too. I was dead too.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
That's my second one.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Yeah, I noticed. I noticed they only by certain people
on the cruise. They don't trust everybody on the crew.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
Don't trust the cruise.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Whatever you do, don't put Todd on the cruise. What's up? Short? What?
I man? What up? Man?
Speaker 3 (09:38):
What's yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:41):
I'm trouble? Hey you terrible?
Speaker 12 (09:44):
Hey?
Speaker 1 (09:44):
You know what?
Speaker 6 (09:45):
Oh, that's right Todd And that's right, Shortened Todd got
the same name, so I just called shortened Led then
look so so growing up in hip hop, here's another
good fun fact for y'all to know.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Like l L was like is the into it?
Speaker 13 (10:00):
Right?
Speaker 6 (10:01):
But Short raised me though, you know what I'm saying,
Like Short was always there for me. He comes to
the creative. Well that's a big brother and hip hop
to me in real life, y'all. Fun fact, fun fact?
What yeah, so.
Speaker 14 (10:23):
Show coach contral What up? This is y'all first time
doing Rock the Bells?
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Right?
Speaker 4 (10:32):
How do y'all feel about this all right.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
Man, honest, it's it's it's really a blessing to it.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Privilege. Man. We want to thank thank everybody that a
lot of part of this.
Speaker 7 (10:41):
Ll all y'all, man, just this moment right now, we
just we sold it in.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Yeah. Yeah, we freshman in the back justsert. Yeah.
Speaker 14 (10:50):
But y'all been carrying the torch and making it look good, man,
So salute to you guys.
Speaker 5 (10:53):
Man Coast Contra love Hey, yo.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Most Contra. You know that never that Never freestyle was
so crazy. I love that so much man. That was
like it represents so much of like not only the
roots of hip hop and the DNA of the lyricism
and the storytelling and all of fly fly lyrical content,
but also then seeing your performed live. I just love
(11:23):
the idea of you know, embracing you know, younger and
new generations, you know what I'm saying, but the ones
that really love the culture and really love hip hop.
Obviously you guys are from that lineage, you know what
I'm saying, And it like that was very impressive to me.
That's why it was really important to me that that
we have you here as a part of this because
I never want the you know, the other generations to
(11:45):
think that we're not thinking about the whole culture. This
isn't only about like guys that started when I started,
you know what I'm saying, or started before me. This
is about everybody. So you know, I'm just really excited
to have you be a part of this, you know
what I mean?
Speaker 5 (12:02):
Yes, and to y'all credit is like everything we're doing
and y'all know, y'all y'all students of the game as well.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
We just we're standing on y'all shoulders, you know what
I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Legitimately watched Red Men and Method Man and that helped
improve our show showmanship so much.
Speaker 15 (12:20):
Trust we're gonna be out there taking notes and just
studying the game as always.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
Love that's the little dudes that was that.
Speaker 8 (12:27):
That y'all drive and I could.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
God, the boy the boys tore that joint up right there.
Enjoy was crazy.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
Uh man, for real?
Speaker 3 (12:49):
Thank you?
Speaker 6 (12:50):
No, I'm honored, man, I'm I'm I'm so happy to
be I'm so happy that it lives, you know what
I mean, Because.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
It's it's it's it's being attacked right now.
Speaker 6 (13:04):
Man, hip hop is being attacked right now, Man, everybody
ain't dope.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
I'm gonna say it.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Anybody ain't dope.
Speaker 6 (13:19):
But if you keep throwing some ship down down our throats,
we're gonna start believing that. And the powers that be
don't want to see that. They don't they don't want
to see that real, real, real grungy hip hop come
back where it had a story, where it had a meaning.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
It was.
Speaker 6 (13:36):
It was the what's going on of the eighties and
the nineties and the two thousands and the nows, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
It was the what's going on of it? You know,
the I am everyday people of it. It's not that
no more.
Speaker 6 (13:49):
And I'm so happy to see the youngster just picking
it up and killing it, man, and taking it to
another level. What a free taking it to another level, man,
George Dogg Man saw good.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
Listen, face this this something. This stuff always happened to me. Listen.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
I just was on a call with somebody before I
got on this call, and I was telling them the
story about when I came to do the record with
you for my album and you took me to your
hood and then we went to like a lounge and
you went on stage, and you played every instrument from
It was like a band on stage and you went.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
To every instrument. I just before I call, I just
was saying.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
That, Yo, I didn't even know you was gonna be
on this call.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
Yo.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
That's crazy. Stuff like that always happened to me, Yo,
It always happened.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
It's all love free. It's good to see brother experience.
Speaker 5 (14:43):
Good to see you too, uncle El. One of my
biggest accomplishments was being on your album, going back and
forth with.
Speaker 6 (14:53):
You in the studio.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
Man, listen, come a kid, a kid from Philadelphia that
just this was my dream of being in a rap start.
To be able to be in a studio with you
and go back and forth with you on a song
for your album. It's one of my major accomplishments in
my career, and I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
You Know. The thing that's most exciting to me about
you know, this whole thing is that you know, like
a lot of times, you know in hip hop, you know,
when we start businesses and when we do companies, we
always make it about ourselves, or at least that's a
lot of the times. The tendency it becomes about the person.
Like rock, the Bells ain't about loll coolj Rock the
(15:32):
Bells is. That's the reason why I'm not actually on
the bill. This shit I'm really doing. I want this
to be about us, and I know that's not the norm.
I know we're not used to that. I know we're
used to kind of the figurehead being the center of
the world and everything revolving around them. But that's really
not my mission, you know what I'm saying. My mission
(15:52):
is more about seeing all of us shine in a
major way, you know what I'm saying, Seeing Kane, seeing
Too Short shine, even this whole Uptown celebration, everything that
Eddie and them did, all those just heavy D, heavy D.
You know a lot of people don't talk about having
the people. They don't talk about Arre, you know what
I'm saying, a lot of people talk about Jeff Redd,
talk about you know, ol B, talk about all the
(16:13):
things that they brought to our culture. You know, yeah,
some of it were singing in R and B, but
they brought things to our culture and contributed. So I
really want this to be about all of us, you
know what I'm saying. And I want to be clear
about that, you know, because I'm famous enough for fifty
people believe this is about us. Now, this is about
(16:35):
Rock the Bells. You know what I'm saying, and you are.
Everybody on the zoom is Rock the Bells. You know
what I'm saying. So that's what it's about, you know
what I mean.
Speaker 6 (16:44):
So we gotta give you your flowers though, straight up,
because you providing the ground for us to stand.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
You know what I mean, Thank you.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
Bro's their plan forever, like putting together a full fledged
Doctor Bell's tour, like you know what I mean, like
like a you know, the whole United States and then
go to Europe and and and and.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
All that, like I mean, you know, yeah, so one
hundred percent, like you know, we do the festival, you know,
we do you know, Rock the Bell's Cruise as well,
a lot of people we have played on the cruise,
and we'll be playing on the cruise coming up. Yeah,
there'll be a moment when we'll take it on the road.
But I want to, you know, make sure that everybody
here knows their opportunities to do television, their opportunities for
(17:32):
them to do content, their opportunities for them to you know,
have merch and whether it's coast contra and they want
to do something for you know, the twenty year Rods
and the Future or you know, you know me and
you know and Eddie, We're gonna do.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
Something somewhere else.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
You know what I'm saying, Like it's it's really a
lot of opportunities there. You know, there is a learning
curve that comes with it, but there's a lot of ourtunities.
And yes, so taking this on the road, giving people
their own situations, giving people their own opportunities to curate things.
You know, I want to do everything I can to
(18:11):
just make our to elevate our culture. You feel me.
I just want to elevators, that's all. You know what
I'm saying.
Speaker 14 (18:17):
I think I think one of the most important things
you've done with Rock the Bells is be consistent, because
that's the thing that there's no consistency. If people can't
rely on the brand, on the quality of what you're doing,
it makes everybody look bad and everything look bad. And
you've been so consistent with this that I salute you
for that.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Man. Yeah, yeah, that's that's super important. I don't want
I don't want people like I don't want them performing
in front of a black backdrop with a rum and
coke and a stool like you know what I mean,
like like like like looking like we'll wrap for food,
like we're not doing. Ain't nobody here rapping because they
for food. We're bringing entertainment to the to the masses.
(18:58):
We're bringing up five and the energy and our culture
to the world.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
You know what I'm saying, Like this ain't the same
the Chiplin.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
Circuit, nostalgia tra like this is the press, the president
and the future. This is about artists that just want
to do great stuff for the fans. You know what
I'm saying. I want to make the fans lives great,
you know, just like the channel. You know what I'm saying, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
Yeah, yeah, this is this is Jeff Fred. How y'all
doing out there? I don't want to.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
What's that?
Speaker 4 (19:34):
Y'all? Thanks again, man, l for you know, putting us on.
Speaker 16 (19:38):
I gotta give a shout out to Eddie f as
Well man and make this happen. And like I said,
you know, coming from burning New York, We're gonna bring it.
We're gonna bring it money.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
I'm excited about that.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
Yeah, we got on the floor.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
I am too.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
Yes, he's still here too, right, Yeah, question.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yo yo, hell, I got a question?
What up yo? This red?
Speaker 13 (20:09):
Yeah, what's up?
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 17 (20:11):
I've been told that yoie yo, I did the first
Rock the Bells would chain out there in LA. That
was you connected with that Rock the Bells?
Speaker 1 (20:21):
No, no, so no no. What it is is that
I turned around and looked at this brand and the
brand went away, and I decided, you know what, I
got to take this intellectual property back. I have to
do what it needs to be done so that it continues.
Once it wasn't looking like it was going right, I
can't because Rock the Bells is my I P. It
(20:45):
has to go right, and I gotta see the artists
get treated right. And you know, I want to see
people get what they're supposed to get. And so nah,
I took it back, straight up. I took it back
and we're moving forward now. That doesn't mean that I
wouldn't be willing to talk with people if they got ideas,
if they want to. You know, I'm always open to
like hearing people out. But I took it back and
(21:07):
I made it ours. And now Kane owns a piece,
and Chante owns a piece, and run DMC owns a
Piece and Fab five Freddy and you know different people
Salt and Pepper and you know what I mean. And
just like I just wanted to make this our thing,
grand Master Casz. You know what I'm saying. I'm early
with tiny people because I want this thing to be
about us and so yeah, that's what it is, right. Yeah.
Speaker 17 (21:31):
I think the first Rock the Bells like twenty like
when they started seventeen years yego bro like gloves bro,
yeah yeah, and I was doing them back to back
yeah yeah bro. So I've been a part of Rock
the Belt for the longest. Salute to all all my
comrades in the Fall Coast contra. You already know the business,
y'all one of my favorites. Yeah, thanks for the shot,
but yo, hell you already know bro. Like anything you need,
(21:54):
I'm here, young bro is always here. Thank you for
allowing me to be part of the Rock the Bells,
having my own radio show and everything.
Speaker 12 (22:00):
Bro.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
So I've been with the brand for a long time, bro,
like long time, bro, no doubt. And that's the beauty
of it.
Speaker 4 (22:09):
He l it is Donelle Jones man, what up?
Speaker 1 (22:11):
You know what's up? But Jones Man, Hey, Bro, I
love you. I love you man.
Speaker 18 (22:17):
Look I remember like it was like nineteen eighty seven
you came to Chicago and you walked up that damn
that big ass radio. You know what I'm saying, It
was so dope. Man, Like, Man, I respect you. I
love you man, thank you for bringing me man oh man,
Man much respect Man, I love.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
To I think the Uptown celebration is gonna be crazy,
you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 9 (22:38):
You know, I just want to cut in for a
second because you'll know I'm still at work.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
You want to be in the company right appreciated?
Speaker 12 (22:49):
Are you working?
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Lady of rock the bells?
Speaker 12 (22:52):
Is that cool?
Speaker 4 (22:55):
That's not called the time?
Speaker 9 (22:58):
How excited I was year about the Uptown tribute because
we are we doing this for hip hop, but we're
doing this for a time that we want to remember
and there's no way that we can miss out on
the best years of our lives was during the Uptown Sound,
during the Uptalk crick It's like you have to include that,
(23:19):
whether it's the fashion, the the artists, the songs. Like
a lot of us, let's just be honest, a lot
of us made babies during that Uptown Town baby.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Hard and so for me.
Speaker 9 (23:37):
To be able to be the Dean of ceremonies for
that is just incredible. So I try to tell everybody, like, listen,
this is not just a reunion.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
This is a reminder.
Speaker 9 (23:46):
It's a reminder of the great music, the great artists,
the great people, and the great performances. Because even with Costkanti,
when you're looking at everybody that's going to be hitting
that stage, these are all motherfuckers that perform and do show.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
These are all the songs you bunk to, These are
all the fashions that you looked at.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
These are all the people that you imitated.
Speaker 9 (24:09):
So what I'm looking forward to more than more than
anything else, is I love the fact that Rock the
Bells has generational fans.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 9 (24:19):
I'm as old as the grandma and look as good
as the daughter, and then the granddaughter to watch the movie,
and now the kids the radio in the car, you
know what I mean. So now it gives everybody a
chance to come together. So I'm telling everybody like when
they come out to you know, this is not like,
oh yeah, I want to do this for my parents, Like, no,
we have something for everybody that wants the party so
(24:41):
just come out and have a good time and listen, y'all.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
I gotta go again because you know I'm doing these breaks.
Speaker 9 (24:47):
But I'm one of you, and y'all all look so good.
Look cooten, I'll be sure up motherfucking night and day.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
Let me ask everybody our be cats on here, right,
and I want you individually, you know, I'll start with
our right. Is it is it more uncomfortable when it's
it's a whole bunch of hip hop acts or is
it pretty much the same for you guys.
Speaker 7 (25:13):
I'm just asking, first of all, blessing to see everybody
here listen, to be alive.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
Yes, good to see you know, come on to see
you already know how you do?
Speaker 12 (25:25):
Come on, you know what it is. Listen.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
Yeah, wait time up first and foremost.
Speaker 7 (25:30):
Being from money or into Mount Vernon. And remember we
just a mile away from where hip hop started across
the street. Everything we did, I was just knocking Eddie
F's door, trying to get in the basement.
Speaker 12 (25:44):
His mother was so nice.
Speaker 7 (25:45):
Come on in, Albert and go downstairs. Just some nice
tea lemonade or kool aid, whatever you had down there.
And Eddie had the the speakers the size of you know,
something that we ain't ever seen before, and just every
day just making it from one part of Mount Vernon
to the basement to go see Eddie and us cutting
these demos for this guy named Dwight who was played
(26:09):
on the football team with me, and you know, it's
just such a culture. But I remember, I'm gonna tell
you this before Uptown started, Eddie and I in the basement,
we're working on some demos. We had a flood that
day and I remember, so I mind you WHI y'all
don't know is that I was actually.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
The roadie for Eddie.
Speaker 7 (26:28):
Eddie's the best DJ in Westchester, and you know, I
made sure I carry the equipment getting to the parties
we do it. You know, he was like on a duo,
but he was, you know, he's that guy. And we
had a flood in the basement one day. So it's
my job is running clean up to you know, make
sure the wires, you know, anybody who DJ, you know,
get them wires out the water. One day, we just
picked up the phone on the wall and I looked
(26:51):
in the Yellow Pages and I was looking on where
Eddie was spinning and it said death Jam I was like, okay.
So I looked in the Yellow Pages and I picked
up the phone and I started calling diff Chin and
I kept asking for this guy named Russell Simmons, kept
getting hung up on him.
Speaker 12 (27:09):
I speak to Russell Simmons, Flee. We got this fruit,
Heavy D and the boys.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
He was like what.
Speaker 7 (27:13):
Finally somebody stopped. He said what the fat boys? I
was like, no, sir, Heavy D and the boys. He said,
where are you from?
Speaker 12 (27:19):
What's your name?
Speaker 4 (27:20):
I said, my name is l be Sure.
Speaker 12 (27:22):
Sir.
Speaker 7 (27:22):
He said the hell is an l be Sure and
I said I'm from Hollow Watch this. I said, I'm
from money Earner Mount Vernon. He said you mean oh
yo boys niggas and thank you from the Bronx. So
next sentence, sir, who am I speaking to? My name's
(27:44):
doctor Jackyll. I was like, well, I don't want to
talk to you. I want to talk to Russell Simmons.
So that's the first phone called me and Eddie made
before there was the uptowns. Me and Eddie in the
basement doing production. That's how the whole thing started. Eddie
f and l be Sure and Eddie his basement with
his mother sending food down and cutting demos. So Eddie,
(28:05):
if y'all even understood the what Eddie did, just in
terms of just gathering the culture giving us and and
I want to give a shout out because Eddie knows
how much our mother's mean to us. God Rest, Eddie's
mother gave us a safe haven to create in a
hood like so we were different, like Eddie, I don't
(28:28):
want to embarrass you. Eddie was the cat in eighth
grade that was doing dos like. He was the smartest kid,
like in Mount Vernon, and he was the best DJ.
And so I just want to be like Eddie rewind
between Mount Vernon and having hard time, So I moved
my mother moved me to Queen's. I was living on
a hundred second in Northern Boulevard, riding my bike around
(28:52):
the way looking for fucking llll food.
Speaker 12 (28:55):
J I just wanted to see him, I swear, or
my grandson.
Speaker 7 (29:00):
I'm ripping my background just hoping I see this cat
because he you know, that's the man right there. So
so between that and then the whole association with death Jam,
knowing that he's the first artist, you know, it was
just it was just fascinating fast forward circle. I'm just
appreciative of being here. I'm appreciative. These are my brothers, uptoying.
We you know, we tried to make a difference. I
(29:21):
remember when we first brought uh Petty D and the
boys to Russell.
Speaker 12 (29:26):
He was like, what's this? What's this singing in rapping?
Like you know that magic? He got LL run DMC,
he got DC boys.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
He got He's like, what's this singing and wrapping? Then?
Speaker 12 (29:35):
So he told Andre go, go go, go do what
you gotta do. And the rest is history.
Speaker 7 (29:40):
So we we feel truly blessed that you brought it
full circle, sir, so brought us back through and allowed the.
Speaker 12 (29:46):
Family to come through.
Speaker 7 (29:47):
And again, just have you even understood there's no separation
in this Come on star right listen, my man, eight
hundred grand right here we we up at fifty fifteen.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
Every sore.
Speaker 7 (30:00):
Often when you know when I come outside, you know,
don't come out much, but I see your face. I
fail at home. You blessed me in Houston. Allow me
to roam your your city.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
No, man, you're welcome. Man. This is one big melting pot.
Speaker 7 (30:13):
Now, my man, freeway right here, everybody, everybody here, I
got association.
Speaker 12 (30:22):
The best artist on Warner Brothers records like this major.
Speaker 6 (30:27):
Every time, every time I see Cane, I gotta thank
you man, right right, I appreciate that.
Speaker 7 (30:37):
It's always before I jump off, always show am, I
want to pay homage before you. I want to pay
homage for my brother Freeway that's here, as you know
or may not know. So you know, with this miracle
of you know, surviving uh uh medical crisis, we just
say that and taking it to Congress writing legislation for
(30:59):
transplant in the four or five stints.
Speaker 12 (31:02):
But free Way comes up to.
Speaker 7 (31:05):
New York as a meeting and joins us in our
fight in Congress to create legislation for health care for
the communities we come from.
Speaker 12 (31:17):
So when you take listen anytime you get lemons.
Speaker 7 (31:22):
To get all that lemonade, mate, Arnold Palm and that's
your man two one five down there, that's your man
two on five.
Speaker 12 (31:27):
Came hall with it and shared the story with all
the New York City. You know, we did Reverend sharpings
Nan convention.
Speaker 7 (31:33):
He came in just absolutely blew it up, touched the
people and it's so nice to see people, and you know,
it was it was like this was like generations e
Free Way came in and actually blew up to start
shared this story about having a transplant, things of that
nature where most people you know, either you know mental
health is a stigma having a transplant.
Speaker 12 (31:52):
Listen, we all go through stuff, we live rough on
our bodies.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
It is what it is.
Speaker 7 (31:56):
So the simple fact that you celebrate your said situation,
you know, your seed situation. You got nothing but love
for you, and everybody show showed up in that Bay
area Man.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Radio Radio.
Speaker 7 (32:16):
I started radio on Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose ninety
eight one Kiss FM, the best variety of today's old
sloo and R and B being ranw on.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
Come on, let me let me Can I shie him
in for a second?
Speaker 12 (32:30):
Yes, please.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
I just want to build on something that Al said.
Speaker 19 (32:36):
He said, he said word, You said word to your grandson, Yes, sir, yeah,
his grandson.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Mm hmmm.
Speaker 19 (32:48):
I don't know who noticed. DJ Hollywood just turned seventy.
So hip hop not only have parents, it has grandparents
and it has great grandparents.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
That's how long it's been around.
Speaker 19 (33:05):
And one thing I noticed is like in music, when
I was listening to the sugar Hill Gang, I was
also listening to Teddy.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
Pendergrad, Evely Champagne.
Speaker 19 (33:16):
King familiar with the ojay Is Osley Brothers, but my
parents played. I was familiar with Little Anthony and Imperials grandparents,
my grandparents. So I mean, different genres, different errors, and like,
(33:39):
I just think that, you know, knowing that, and then
you've got you got cast like Coast Contra, these new cats,
you know, and it's being a part of this.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
With us.
Speaker 19 (33:52):
I think that music is music and we must continue
to respect it that way, you know, not as old
school new school, but as music. Ellll said something to
me that I thought it was amazing. He branded us.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
As Times again. Brasy what timeless? Okay?
Speaker 19 (34:15):
Thomas, Yeah, thomass hip hop. And I think that's such
such an amazing typle. Long lived came and no, I
mean you know, because yeah, that's exactly what it is,
you know, thimless farmer and.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Yeah, of it that way.
Speaker 7 (34:35):
And King, I gotta say thank you too. When we
was youngsters, when we was first Warner Brothers nineteen eighty eight, right,
I was on Uptown, he was on Cold Chilling. You
invited me and my wife Kimberly to be in your video. Yeah,
smooth operator. Yes, Elevaporator. Remember that that was crazy, so smooth.
Speaker 12 (34:55):
That was crazy. So it's just like that's that's like
what el is doing now, reaching out blessing.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
You know what it is.
Speaker 7 (35:04):
Everybody has their platform and you reach out to another
artist that you respect the fact that he's using his
platform to bless everybody here.
Speaker 12 (35:11):
That's that's the blessing in itself. Now, who you talk
about the marathon?
Speaker 3 (35:15):
Man?
Speaker 1 (35:17):
How do you do this for this? Man?
Speaker 7 (35:18):
I know I'm old, you know I just turned but
now I'm sure you still get caught in king. I
don't even think you drink, you know what I mean? Man,
But listen, just here to say thank you, brother, just
just thank you for setting the setting the pace. I
remember sitting in a little apartment on a hundred second
(35:39):
in Northern Boulevard and listen to your music on the
box and uh just want to be a cool j
So that was like, you know, that was the thing
in school, and you know, you definitely opened the doors
and allowed us to feed our family because there was
a genre that we can we can gravitate too and
do what we do and create the expression in the streets.
(36:00):
Because all my music is is what Eddie F was
playing in hip hop and I just dow some melodies
on Eddie F Want and told me to sing. I
was trying to rap. He was like, can you sing
on this thing? I said, I'm not really a singer
like that. He says, well, practice, so that stuffed practice,
practice practicing, And then I want somebody to love me
for me, not because of mcavy T.
Speaker 12 (36:22):
Look I love that sold.
Speaker 20 (36:27):
You know.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
I love you, big bro.
Speaker 4 (36:29):
I love you man.
Speaker 18 (36:31):
I'll say this, man, I'm a young kid from Chicago.
I watched all you guys man, like like the video
shows that I sing. It was like, man, it was
like not MTV but BT whatever the case was.
Speaker 12 (36:45):
Ralphiel I watched y'all.
Speaker 18 (36:48):
Man, and I was like, like it was so dope
to me. Man, you know what I'm saying, and I
can't believe that I I'm a part of the culture now.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Definitely are absolutely every you know what I'm saying, Like you,
I think about it, I look at it like yo,
you got like like I just you know, you know,
you got to fast forward many many years from now,
Coast Country will have be sitting here like doing something
talking about their experience at rock the bells and like
I just think about like how beautiful it is.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
You know what I'm saying, Like.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
Like that we could you know, like like I got
a vision for all of y'all. You know what I'm saying,
Like I see all of y'all at the at the
like top of the food chain. You know what I'm saying,
Like that's the vision. Like me and short we was
just rocking down in LA. We had a crazy time
out there. Well in the Bay Area, we had a
crazy time on stage. You know what I'm saying, Like
it's like I just see us. I just see I
(37:42):
got a vision like I see I see all of
y'all doing huge things. I see the whole culture really
being successful, and I see us embracing each other more,
you know what I'm saying. And look nor Red, Like
the reality is you have been on that age because
like that ain't lost on me, Drink Champs. You've been
(38:04):
on that page of like making sure that you're giving
a platforms, an opportunity, and you've been doing it. And
look how beautiful your life has become because you decided
to give Well, guess what, You're not the only one
who wants to see some see people with you know.
Speaker 14 (38:18):
What I mean?
Speaker 1 (38:23):
Yeah, words, and I say one more thing till we gone.
Speaker 19 (38:30):
That's why I was saying what I was saying, because
with nor you're here, with hell here that understanding, that title,
that brand timeless.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
We all need to share that.
Speaker 19 (38:42):
Yeah, you know, we all need to share that and
get that whole old school perspective out of.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Our That's right. Yeah, I totally agree with that.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
Man. Cool, Well, you gotta stay curious, you know, if
you if you want to be into the future, you
got to be curious, and you gotta be and you
got to care, and you got to care about and
you got to be willing to take some creative risks.
You know. Creative risk is really important when you talk
about the future, when you talk about you got to
think about innovation, and you got to be willing. If
(39:14):
you're not willing to look a little stupid. If you're not,
if you're totally unwilling to risk looking stupid on some level,
you'll never be able to take a creative risk. You
know what I'm saying. You're too worried about preserving what
was before correct willing to do things that you laugh
at in the moment. So that they and they understand later.
You know, yo, I wore a bullfighter's shirt and don't
(39:38):
curse to hundred no doubt, no doubt, no became.
Speaker 3 (39:55):
My eyebrows are thick to this day because of you.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
Yeah, yeah, my eyebrows.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
Every time I look at my eyebrows, I think of you.
I be like this nigga bike daddy came many.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
An in for your think eyebrow, get out of him.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
Let me roll with it. I know what you mean,
parting them.
Speaker 6 (40:18):
Joints right, like parts of the eyebrows, right, Burt had
a couple of parts of my eyebrows.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
The part of the eyebrows I had.
Speaker 6 (40:28):
I had the cameo fade and if you scaped a
cameo almost still hair string.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
I remember when Red Red, when Red first started, I remember,
you know, I was on tour somewhere, and I don't
know if Eric was on tour. Me sermon, we were somewhere,
was in Jersey actually, and Eric brought Red to the hotel,
you know, to wrap before he even had a deal.
Like all right, when they was getting together, Red men
sat there freestyle for like two hours. You're read you
(40:57):
remember that. I remember always battling on a road. Yeah,
I remember that, and I was like me and Craig
Mack was on the road all the time with E. P.
M D.
Speaker 17 (41:07):
And uh Man said, we used to battle every every
night in the lobby.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
Aaron shipped out in the lobby every fucking night.
Speaker 17 (41:14):
Broyo, you remember that time I came to your house
with E. P.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
M D L And your father was there. Yo, I
got vaguely you know, my pops was crazy. Your pops
was fucking wilding, bro. It was a wild was a
complete wildout. He was your pops was made rest in peace.
Speaker 6 (41:40):
Man.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
He was he was something else man. He was the
man though. He was funny. He was, Yes, he was brode.
He's a wild boy. He was a wild He was
a wild boy. He was I'm telling you about yeah, Bro,
it was wildless. Fuck Bro. He changed his name is
he changed his last name and just so he could
(42:01):
tell me niggas when they asked him his names. He
changed his last name just so he can say that
to people like he.
Speaker 6 (42:10):
Well, he legally changed it for me, legally changed his
name just so he could just commit your business.
Speaker 1 (42:18):
You know, he was you know, he was a different dude, man.
He was rest in peace. I got, I got two
little brothers. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (42:29):
So let me ask you, is there anybody that you
tried to get on rockor Bell's, the festival or cruise
that you never got?
Speaker 1 (42:37):
Well, there's always people, but a lot of times it's
scheduling or you know, different different things that come up,
normal business stuff. But everybody will work with everybody ultimately,
you know what I'm saying, Like everybody, you know, if
life lives as long as life lives, and we all here,
like we'll work with all the artists. And you know,
I'm gonna include more classic artists. You know, I'm gonna
include more young artists, more close conscious generation and younger.
(43:00):
I'm going to include them all like they're all going
to be welcome to be a part of what we
you know what I'm saying. And the main thing for
me is just I just want people to know that,
like I know, like I have to keep saying this though,
but this seeing an LL party, you know what I'm saying.
It's about Bells and it's like I want to make
sure that I keep inviting more and more people to
(43:20):
be a part of what we're doing. You know, what
I'm saying, so that I just want to see everybody eat,
everybody be successful, everybody shine, you know what I'm saying.
And so.
Speaker 14 (43:29):
Any plans on making this a multi day festival.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
Yeah, so.
Speaker 4 (43:34):
I have.
Speaker 1 (43:34):
I've had thoughts about it. This year, I wanted to
go to Pu Detric Center in New Jersey just one
because for the like people were baking outside in Queens.
But then there's a lot of there was like some
noise ordinance and some different things that I wanted to
make sure that everybody could have the experience they wanted
to have. So this year it's a one day, but
eventually definitely be considering about thinking about days in multiple
(43:59):
stages for sure.
Speaker 3 (44:01):
Yeah, what's your your dream place to throw a rock?
The bells at?
Speaker 6 (44:07):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (44:07):
I ain't gonna say that, but you know I'm I'm
always you already know what you want to do. Yeah, yeah,
I'm gonna tell the work of that because then Wembley Arena,
you know what I mean, you know they'll be too.
We're gonna do some things and and I'm gonna have
all of these artists and more, you know, all of
us artists and more being a part of this, you know,
(44:28):
what I'm saying, and and you know, no, you're gonna
tear it up this you know, like this is dizzy too,
like we podcast, but.
Speaker 5 (44:35):
You gonna be tearing up together.
Speaker 3 (44:44):
We heard in five years having done a show together,
there was no beef for that like that just I'm
doing podcasting. He's busy, but we're actually going to rehearsal
and everything like we're doing.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
Like you know what I'm saying, all report baby war crazy, crazy,
gotta gotta I gotta take off my podcast shirt. You
know what I mean. It's gonna be crazy worry for you? Yea,
what a free way from my way I took away?
Why that's the stage.
Speaker 3 (45:18):
Let me ask you, what do you like performing more
by yourself or with your crew?
Speaker 1 (45:25):
I like both, but you know, definitely what my brothers
by me?
Speaker 14 (45:28):
Man.
Speaker 5 (45:28):
You know it's it's always an amazing experience because we
got so many records together and we interact so well,
so you know, it's always.
Speaker 10 (45:35):
Better with the.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
Crazy.
Speaker 3 (45:45):
Yo.
Speaker 1 (45:46):
Come on, what this is gonna be crazy baby to it?
Speaker 12 (45:52):
It's gonna be bananas.
Speaker 1 (45:53):
Yeah, sure, what's up short? What's man? I see you?
Speaker 6 (45:57):
Man?
Speaker 15 (45:58):
I got something to say to man. I'm really I'm
really happy to be a part of this episode of
Sober Champs.
Speaker 1 (46:08):
Yes I'm not sober.
Speaker 15 (46:16):
That's a whole lot of personal friends pop up on
the screen, real friends.
Speaker 4 (46:21):
I don't know if you niggas know.
Speaker 1 (46:22):
I'm fifty nine years old, just turned fifty nine, and
I was.
Speaker 12 (46:27):
Since nineteen eighty, since.
Speaker 1 (46:29):
I was fourteen years old.
Speaker 15 (46:31):
And I go out every weekend and knock down about
fifty seventy five hundred thousand the weekend I was. I
love hip hop, bet, come on, yes, fall in love
with hip hop and start rapping. Man, It's the best
thing I ever did.
Speaker 3 (46:47):
Man.
Speaker 15 (46:47):
And I'm just I'm proud to be a part of
what I consider to be a fraternity of brothers and
sisters who have made timeless hip hop.
Speaker 1 (46:56):
You can make hip hop all you want.
Speaker 15 (46:58):
You can have a good year, you can do whatever.
You can get all the money in the world, but
you ain't making that timeless. It's magic in there. None
of us don't even have the ingredients to it.
Speaker 4 (47:06):
We just need it.
Speaker 1 (47:09):
J for given.
Speaker 3 (47:10):
Timeless hip hop a platform.
Speaker 4 (47:13):
It ain't got no age limit, it ain't got no
regional limits.
Speaker 1 (47:17):
It's like if you're in the club, you in the club.
You're going rock the bell You know what I'm saying,

Speaker 4 (50:48):
L L yeah you l you ain't no cop read.
Speaker 13 (50:54):

Speaker 1 (50:54):
I remember Nory brought Pharrell up to the studio and
introduced me to for Rell like like I would have
never did like love you better in all them songs.
Norri brought Pharrell up to the studient Forrell wasn't known
Forrell was the kid running around like bouncing off the walls,
and he was like, Yo, this little dude he got
the I was like, why he brought him up? He
started talking. He was all passing in and exciting like
(51:17):
he was animating, no doubt, no doubt. As a matter
of fact, you know, Norri, wasn't you when when Biggie
was writing, because I was in the studio when Biggie
did Our Shot You when he wrote Our Shout you
was dead at day too.
Speaker 3 (51:27):
Right, if there's Daddy, if there's Daddy's house.
Speaker 4 (51:30):
Then yeah, yeah you was. Yes, you were there because
you came.
Speaker 1 (51:34):
You came through for a while when when Biggie was
writing Our Shot You, I was stating I was sitting
there and you came through and we was kicking it
and all for a while and all that while Biggie
was doing his thing. Yeah I remember that. That's crazy though,
Like no, just like looking at y'all, like you know,
it's so much like I'm telling you, like mister Cheeks,
like that Lex Coops being in best rest in peace,
freaky time, man, like like you know that was yo,
(51:58):
those records Yo, them lost boys, Renee come on like
the lights, camera action, like you people gotta understand the
music that's on this joint, like like yo, the song
right now, wrote me.
Speaker 21 (52:18):
I was in your head and they had the soundtrack,
and that first time I met Cheeks was a I
believe the hit factory and he wrote temper do for
me to me to learn it. We laughed all day,
God blessed. Oh we had a blast, my brother.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
I can't.
Speaker 3 (52:40):
I keep looking at your background thinking Freddy Cougar gonna
come out you.
Speaker 12 (52:47):
I mean, I'm just in the in the woods, smoking weed,
you know, get in nature.
Speaker 1 (52:53):
We really, Oh, yo, I thought that was a filter,
like you.
Speaker 4 (52:57):
Legitimate, legitulimately in the woods.
Speaker 12 (53:01):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (53:02):
I love that.
Speaker 5 (53:04):
I kept looking at I can't look at like somebody
gonna pop out, my son come through and all of that.
Speaker 1 (53:12):
That's fire.
Speaker 3 (53:13):
That's fire, no doubt, that's fire.
Speaker 4 (53:17):
And I can't wait to see y'all on the twenty
eight though you already know I'm excited too.
Speaker 11 (53:22):
I'm playing right as well, so you already know I'm
over here and enjoying what you're talking about and all
the stories that's what made us what we are now.
Like you said, like too short, saving I'm probably be
a part of this ship. Man, I'm honest and all
of that, you know what I mean. So, uh, cat
with to get down to see y'all on the twenty eighth.
But June, we're gonna be acting to fool you already know.
Speaker 4 (53:41):
Yeah, yeah, that's gonna be I'm excited.
Speaker 1 (53:45):
Excited.
Speaker 3 (53:48):
They bring hey, bring me in a f on a
drink camp plan, No problem.
Speaker 1 (53:52):
No problem. We don't talk about it.
Speaker 3 (53:54):
That's too easy. That's too easy. And I heard you
getting drunk right now. So it's it's just gonna be good.
Speaker 1 (54:00):
Good, I'm good.
Speaker 4 (54:01):
He got himself in the room.
Speaker 1 (54:03):
Look at him, red light in the red light district
and all light.
Speaker 4 (54:12):
I don't know what's gonna happen if he pans out.
Speaker 3 (54:22):
Has ever been a Juice Crew reunion?
Speaker 13 (54:26):
Man?
Speaker 3 (54:27):
Has there ever been a Juice Crew reunion at the
Rock the Bells?
Speaker 1 (54:31):
Not at Rock the Bells. We haven't done a Juice
Crew through no, But I mean, you know, all these things.
Speaker 3 (54:38):
Are possible, baby, because every year, every year it's like that.
That's like one of the things is like I'm having
a reunion part of the show, you know what.
Speaker 1 (54:47):
It just it just varies, man, it's really about just
the creative and just bringing people to participate and just
doing dope ship. You know what I'm saying. I just
wanted to be hot and wanted to be crazy, Like
I just want to see Compona Norie. I wanted to
see Big D. I want to see Too Short. I
want to I want Coach Contra to rock. You know
what I'm saying. I want to see Freeway. I want
to see you know, Beanie Siegel, Like you know, I
want to see the uptown. You know, I just want
(55:09):
to divibe with the whole thing. You're gonna have fabulous
out there. You know what I'm saying. You're gonna have
little Mo out there. You know, kr res One gonna
be in the building doing it. You know what I'm saying.
I mean, it's just gonna be It's gonna be a
complete wild out, you know what I'm saying. You know,
tearing up the stage, you know what I'm saying. Like,
it's just the whole This is about our culture. This
is about hip hop. It's about hip hop. It's about
(55:30):
the people are part of hip hop culture. So whether
they are and B singers, whether they dances, whether they performance,
all of that is part of what we do, you
know what I'm saying. So that's the thing, you know
what I mean.
Speaker 3 (55:40):
You said, you said cars coming, you said kress Absolutely
let me text right now.
Speaker 14 (55:47):
Let me ask you would you would you recreate those
old battles on stage.
Speaker 1 (55:50):
One hundred per hundred percent.
Speaker 14 (55:52):
All you got to do is say the word, because
that would be ill, especially for the younger generation to
see two icons that back in the day's battle that
they heard about on tape.
Speaker 4 (56:01):
See that live.
Speaker 1 (56:02):
Absolutely, absolutely absolutely it could be new ones. It can
be whatever.
Speaker 3 (56:07):
You're right, the new version of that is versus right,
versus ever be like a part of it.
Speaker 1 (56:13):
I mean, you know, I'm not against the idea of
doing of working with anybody as long as the goal
is to lift up the artists and lift up the
culture and sure that everybody is being elevated. I'm gang
you know what I'm saying, Like I don't you know,
I'm not I'm not playing this close to the vest,
you know what I'm saying, Like, I'm actually you know,
open source, like you know, like the way you make
(56:35):
like certain like certain companies like Tech Company. I'm open
with it, you know what I'm saying, it's all about
the artists, you know, it's all about the culture. Like
you know, I think that. I just know that when
y'all get out there and perform, y'all want to feel
a certain way. You'll want a certain vibe, you'll want
certain you want the sound system a certain way, you
want to feel certain energy. That's why, you know, that's
my job. You know what I'm saying. My job is
(56:57):
to make sure that it's it's dope for us and
it's a great experience for us, and I do the
best I can to do it. You know what I'm saying.
I ain't gonna be able to, you know, give you
a bubble bath, limo and shit, and you know you'll
mind take care of that on your own, you know now,
what you know, my job is to make sure it's
a good experience for everybody, you know, and for the fans,
(57:17):
you know, because we you know, at the end of
the day, like we're talking about each other and we
love each other and we're.
Speaker 4 (57:21):
Fans of each other. But there's millions and millions.
Speaker 1 (57:23):
Of people out there that are super excited about the
idea of coming to Prudential Center and seeing all of
you and all of us do this thing and bring
this thing to life. And it's sometimes the industry is
so transparent with this Internet thing that we forget. You
forget sometimes how impactful you are to the world. Millions
of people. Every one of y'all got millions of people
(57:45):
that love you, love you and can't wait to see you.
You know what I'm saying. And that's a beautiful thing,
you know what I mean. I'm not just want to
keep it on the rock. The Bells Festival for one second.
Speaker 3 (57:56):
I remember going to Dave Chappelle's show, and I obviously
in with Dave, but everyone else who walked in with
Dave they put their phones in the green thing, and
so when you sat down and you watched Dave Chappelle's perform,
you couldn't you couldn't record, you know what I mean.
Like there was a certain few that you know, came
in with him, and obviously we had our phones. But
(58:19):
I thought it was it made so much sense because
they forced the fans to just look forward, like, you
know what I mean, Like, I forget what show I
went to the other day, and I couldn't see nobody
having fun because I just see everybody everybody's a star
now everybody.
Speaker 1 (58:35):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (58:36):
Is that something that you look it into or something
that you think it's a possible you.
Speaker 1 (58:41):
Know, it's funny, No, I haven't. I've thought about it
for like my listening sessions, and I've done it before
and then you know, you get people calling you up
because they feel like they're supposed to be important and
all that and everybody. But that being said, it's something
to think about, you know what I'm saying. I didn't
consider it for this because you know, you know how
this people with them phones, they freak out and all that.
(59:04):
But it's definitely something to think about, you know, It's
just something to consider.
Speaker 9 (59:10):
You know.
Speaker 1 (59:10):
I just don't want to at this point. I don't
want to do anything that's going, you know, jeopardize the
fan experience. But I don't know if that necessarily does
or doesn't. The question is, you know, do you want
me to do that? Would you be happy if I
told everybody no phones and made everybody put their phones up, like,
like would that be? How do we think that would
(59:31):
play out?
Speaker 3 (59:32):
I think I think the good thing about it is
we can we can actually watch from this show moving on,
we can actually see that and we can actually dictate
the algorithms. But like I remember, I remember seeing Buster
rhymes and you know Buster is from you know, he's
from a different school. And Buster was so mad that
people had their phones up. Turn your phones Offut.
Speaker 1 (59:54):
When he cussed out the cuss out the people at
the show, well, you know what's gonna.
Speaker 3 (59:58):
Say, bus gonna say what he feel be And if
you're not from our generation, you're probably thinking that he's
being he's being an asshole. But he's trying to give
the people the best experience they is. And you may
not get the best experience with your record, but you
know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:00:13):
So they yeah, I mean listen, man, you know, like
you know, people be filming their food. I'll be eating
you know what I'm saying, Like, you know, I'm hungry,
but I got time to like do a photo shoot.
Speaker 4 (01:00:27):
I need to eat this now.
Speaker 1 (01:00:28):
But you know, you know, everybody different, you know, I judge.
Speaker 3 (01:00:37):
I want to go around for everybody who's who's left
on here? Uh, in no particular order. I want obviously
if you guys know who's on the list, I want
you each person to say, you know, who's the person
that they're looking forward to seeing on.
Speaker 16 (01:00:52):
That stage that night. It's Jeff Red Man. I'm looking
forward to seeing everybody, especially my brother King. Yes, you
know because because because me and him, you know, we
used to support the High Top Faith. You know what
I'm saying, and facing you know, everybody, man, because like
like El said, man, you know we are here now
(01:01:12):
with everybody. That means the people love. So I'm just
excited to be a part of it. I really appreciate it, man.
And again LLL, thank you again.
Speaker 1 (01:01:22):
Eddie F.
Speaker 4 (01:01:22):
Thank you so much for everything. Man, I really appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
This is hot.
Speaker 4 (01:01:28):
I'm working, but this this is gonna be just gonna
be good.
Speaker 1 (01:01:31):
For the for the resume.
Speaker 10 (01:01:32):
You know what I'm saying, I haven't haven't I haven't
performed in New York in like twenty five years. Man,
God l L bringing me Eddie F to Rock to Belsman,
I'm looking forward to it. I mean, kicking off the
dust on the shoes, getting to do what we do.
(01:01:54):
You know, everybody, I got a little big Everybody say
you're still dan, move that to the side. But we're
gonna tell me and my team we ready. And one
thing I love is that I still have my team
that I started out with. All of them still work
for me, and we still go out there and we.
Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
Get it, man.
Speaker 10 (01:02:12):
And it's an honor for y'all to just keeping us
alive and keeping us doing what we do. Credit goes
to all of y'all. And I love all y'all, and
I can't waite, man, And that's just fact. I can't
even say who I want to see because I want
to see all of y'all. I may be a groupie,
say whatever on everybody come on seeing y'all records, and
(01:02:34):
then y'all gonna see me come out with my little thing.
And I just hope I can give y'all what y'all want.
Speaker 12 (01:02:40):
I ain't ain't you know.
Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
It's gonna do what it's gonna do.
Speaker 4 (01:02:43):
Well, yeah, the one to do it is gonna do.
Speaker 1 (01:02:48):
I see, I see my Nepha's phone, and I know
she ain't got a camera on. You know, she probably
won't feel like she's glam ready, But I see your phone.
You're not hiding, So I just wait.
Speaker 4 (01:02:57):
Wait, I have my camera.
Speaker 1 (01:02:59):
Got to caro on. It's good to see you. I
look forward to that. I look forward to you think.
Speaker 4 (01:03:09):
What's up, brother man, it's all good man.
Speaker 22 (01:03:13):
It's definitely a pleasure and an honor for, you know,
just to be a part of this. Shout out to
dj Eddie F for reaching back and grabbing Intro.
Speaker 12 (01:03:23):
Come on out, come out.
Speaker 4 (01:03:25):
Thy man was bringing reunion.
Speaker 1 (01:03:28):

Speaker 20 (01:03:48):

Speaker 22 (01:03:48):
This is a real real quick history right here right So,
my dude, Reggie took me by Eddie F's house in
Mount Vernon before Intro.
Speaker 1 (01:03:55):
I was in the Army.
Speaker 22 (01:03:56):
Then my cousin started playing the drums for I'll be sure.
Because the days Brown so I got a chance to meet,

Speaker 13 (01:04:34):

Yeah yeah, all right, now ready to row.
Speaker 13 (01:05:11):
It just feels good to have all of y'all who
we were youngsters, youngsters growing up running around trying to
get what we had to get, to do what we
had to do to see us.
Speaker 1 (01:05:19):
Now we grandfathers and fathers that's nuts.
Speaker 4 (01:05:22):
Yeah, that's crazy, that's you think.
Speaker 1 (01:05:25):
Well, that's right. The beauty of the culture is that
you could continue doing something for a lifetime if you
treat right, if you respect your career, if you respect
your body, if you respect your mind, respect your spirit.
You know what I'm saying, You could keep doing it.
You could start at fifteen, sixteen professionally. You know when
we started death Jam. We started death Jam I was sixteen.
(01:05:47):
Professionally I was I was eight, But at sixteen I
started death Jam. And you look at the world that
we're in now. You can do a whole life with it.
You just gotta love it and care about it, and
gotta be something you're chasing. I'm not saying we all
want to get to the money and all that, but
there's gotta be a bigger reason for why you do
(01:06:08):
the things that you do. You know what I'm saying,
Other reasons other than the chase the money. You know
what I'm saying, Like it's y'all like the joy that
you get and the joy that the fans get, like
that that's to me, is that's the thing that that
inspires me, you know what I'm saying. So Hey, so Hey,
(01:06:28):
look this is me right here, this is don L.
Speaker 18 (01:06:32):
I don't get to do pop an R and B
until I met Eddie F Like that guy is the
real guy. You know what I'm saying. He goes, he
goes unknown, very quiet, you know what I'm saying. But
he is the real goat. You know what I'm saying.
And so I'm looking forward to seeing King, Like, can't
(01:06:54):
gonna be like that's my that's my nigga right there.
Speaker 1 (01:06:56):
Appreciate you.
Speaker 4 (01:07:00):
And man man come on every studio I was in.
Speaker 10 (01:07:02):
I laying pictures in every studio. When I was making
my record, my first album, I.
Speaker 1 (01:07:08):
Was damn, I came here. I am or a W
I was like yeah, And I used to the way
it came up. I used to go outside his house
and honk my horn louder the music. I like one
two in the morning we came up and then going
there came he be in there cooking fish and all that.
I used to eat his father's food refrigerator. I stop
(01:07:29):
want to go outside my head. I'll be eating all
the food. Like you know we had some you know,
we had some ball. Yeah, a good time.
Speaker 10 (01:07:37):
Jones had some joints too, But came with that smooth
opparado that just changed came to me in the hip
hop that woke me up.
Speaker 4 (01:07:46):
I was dealing with a young lady and she had
me hating King, but I loved his music.
Speaker 1 (01:07:51):
The girl.
Speaker 4 (01:07:53):
Know you young and you you love this, you think.
Speaker 10 (01:07:56):
You love and then next you know, can't come out
with that because I'm smooth and I'm like crazy man,
I love yeah and Jane, Oh my god. I used
to get so much wisdom. Thank you King when we
used to do the shows.
Speaker 1 (01:08:13):
I don't know what.
Speaker 10 (01:08:13):
You used to just put me on when we had
spot dates, and you used to always tell me, like
