Speaker 1 (00:31):
Dropping in for a little watch along action. As we
settle in and we're going to watch a little trash
TV as a current Affair returns to the airwaves, this
time featuring Ecdom.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
We were so over back then. We thought we were
like the best see it on this show. I'm thinking,
if this is the right clip.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
We had to go to New York and it was
the pit Bulls, Dreamer Raven, Me, Beulah Shane Okay, and.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
We were it.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
I think they put us up in a hotel because
we I remember staying in a hotel and then we
went to like this weird like Ali.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
I don't know if we were in the Bronx.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
I can't remember where we were, and the pit bulls
were there and I come out and then that was
one thing. And then they they actually took footage from
the arena and showed it.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
But it was the night I went through the table.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Oh was it really interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
That they were there. So they wanted to interview me,
but Paul said no because he wanted me to sell
the injury.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Oh wow, you were dead in the back.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
They interviewed Beulah instead.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Yeah, all right, well we'll see if that's the clip
there's some ECW clips on different news shows. This one
was actually paired with MSNBC's Roundtable they had with Paul
Hayman and boxing writer Bert Sugar. I don't know why
the connection. I guess the Burt Sugar was also kind
of like a wrestling historian, the late great Birch Sugar.
He always had on like, you know, a hat, and
(02:16):
he was always you watch any old school boxing documentary,
Burt Sugar was the guy that was on. But yeah,
and I want to say these are around the same times.
It's been a while since I saw this, but when
I said Treshchiv with a current affair, now, I don't
think a current affair is on anymore. It used to
just be a little more gritty than the actual magazine
(02:37):
news shows. They would do a little more sensational story.
So ECW fit the current affair mold perfectly, okay, But
they still have it in Australia, which I find interesting.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Was Maury Pilvich the host at one point.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Maury was on it at one point, and I believe
Bill O'Reilly was also a current affair, and that's the
famous Bill O'Reilly where he loses his shit and screaming
the uh you know, you ever see that clip where
he oh, that's a great one, that's a that's a classic,
you know, leaked botch of o'riley's doing his outtakes for
the close of the show and something gets screwed up.
(03:13):
I don't know if it was the prompt or what
and he loses his shit. Really yeah, it's very funny.
But Mari Polvich, yes, a Current Affair. When you when
you saw a Current Affair it was on seven point
thirty on Fox in New York, and I kind of
remember like having to change the channel because sometimes they
were a little more a little sultry, a little raunchry,
runchy for the young Chadley there.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Maybe I'm wrong with this clip, then maybe it's something different.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Let's see. So I'm gonna pull it up and we
will take a listen and uh, you know, we'll comment
on it as we go along, and we'll uh we'll
talk after. How does that sound?
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Bring this bad boy up here as we go flying
into the corner.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
This guy's probably like, what the hell is this story?
Speaker 1 (03:56):
This guy has the perfect newsman like look the hair yaw,
this is a classic newsman, right, here such.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
A handsome man at news Center five.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Here we go.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Okay, now from beauties to the beasts of so called
professional wrestling. You've seen their act before, hulking bodies performing
in carefully choreographed fights. But a new federation is getting
into the ring, and it's performers seem to think that
audiences want still more violence of even though virtually all
of their performance seems to be an act. We should
make you aware of the video we're about to show
(04:32):
you appears quite brutal. Here's Leslie Rodgers.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
You hear it.
Speaker 6 (04:49):
ECW Extreme Championship Wrestling. It's wild, it's crazy, and it
just might be the most violent.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
It's violence a package. There's entertainment. There's no more sport
to this than Bob Peters is not a ramble movie.
Speaker 6 (05:07):
But the wilder it gets, the more fans it attracts.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
And now they start taking world. Look at that that
was cutting Saturn's hair three more more than a scientific
athletics there.
Speaker 6 (05:26):
Scientific is that what you call fans giving wrestlers turned on,
voting wars opponents.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
But Tommy's got a fishing or oh e c W
manager missing.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
And that's what people want to pay the seat.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
It's fake, but obviously just got making fake violence book
as realistic as possible.
Speaker 6 (05:50):
Bob Peers, the president of Peter says that the Championship
doesn't take level.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
This is not the sport, this is not a content the.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Morality reality of media.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Oh God hated me.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
You know what they say about guys like this.
Speaker 7 (06:07):
You can imagine now right now, you see that under
Battle for the Giants, that guys World Wrestling Federation World
Championship Wrestling.
Speaker 6 (06:20):
Although Aunty four years.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
That was the Big Charge's slaughter into.
Speaker 6 (06:30):
He's a junior high school teacher during the week. Even
these events are too violent for children, he said in
former league the w W haters to the kids, and
that's why.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
It was definitely before you guys were paired. Oh, we hit.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
The top guy here, I mean the top guy there
is there. You gotta sell baby dolls here.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
I'm trying to entertain these people. I'm trying to give
it a great wrestling match plastic right here.
Speaker 6 (06:55):
Wow, Rebel has managed to got.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
A physician that there game. That one of my inspiration.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
This is not the clip.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
I thought it was double show.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
This is a totally small child. No, I think I
have it's coming back.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
I've seen better wrestling in high school.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
You're a dick. I take back everything I said about you.
What an asshole.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
He's seen better wrestling in high school?
Speaker 2 (07:38):
He did. I believe were we on a current affair twice?
Speaker 5 (07:43):
Then?
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Because we were on Okay, because we were on some
show that they had a camera crew with us, and
that's what we were in an alley and and the
guys were there, and then they got bum rushed by
like Shane and maybe Raven, and then Tommy made the save.
(08:04):
But I come out and oh, you see me from behind,
and I'm like, I'm telling the pipples, I know where
you train, I know where you live, and I'm distracting them.
And then the guys come and they're just fighting in
this alleyway. And then we were supposed to uh, I
was supposed to be interviewed, but I went through the
table and Paul put the kibosh on it.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
It's it's interesting just even that kind of access though
with ringside interviews, so yeah, there was no backstage anything,
but still even a ringside interview in that kind of environment.
You know, the ECW faithful being probably the most smart
fans in the world at that point. Still interesting that
they would want to even get in that environment. I'm
(08:47):
surprised that, Paul. I guess it was for the access,
but uh, you know, nobody who who knew and this
is ninety five, so yeah, ECW not well known in
ninety five.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
We need it mainstream press, you know, like we we
said before, we didn't have social media back then, so
any any publicity was good publicity, whether they shit on
us like that clip did, or whether they would praise us.
You know, we just wanted to get the word out
there that you know, we were the third company and
we were trying to make a name for ourselves.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
But that's kind of like the old school mentality when
it came to viewing wrestling was what that guy with
his stupid you know quos there is his chisel jaw
with his little jab like that, to me is like
the classic response to wrestling back in the day. Now everybody's,
like I would say, a lot more accepting of.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Itwagon, so to speak.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Yeah, right, let's pull this picture back up here, and
this is the queen's highlight in this this little clip here.
So this was the cutting of the hair.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Yeah, Harry was not happy with this at all.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
So yeah, so take us back, do you do? What
do you remember about this this moment?
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Yeah, he didn't like it.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
I remember was he I got, I got the brunt
of it because I had to clip his hair.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
I don't think he approved of this spot.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
It was because that I took total elimination about twenty
times before this happened. Uh, you know, and I think
I think I'm wearing a I'm sorry, I think I'm
wearing a neck brace.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Uh you can't.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
I can't tell. I don't want to.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
Yeah, no, I'm pretty sure I'm wearing a neck brace
from it.
Speaker 8 (10:32):
But uh, I I had talked about this before, like
we could have had the electric razor, we could have
been like, but we only had a pair of scissors, uh,
you know, cutting his hair.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
But I I just remember that Perry didn't like this angle,
the spot at all.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
So so does Anthony have to pull on that? Uh
that chain really type to get listen.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
I don't know what they did for sure.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
They you get snipped that that mullet there, that hair.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
I do remember Anthony closelining me on the outside.
Speaker 9 (11:10):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
When I when I.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Turned and went with Shane, we did a spot and
you know, we didn't have mats, and he closelined me
and I took a bump on the concrete, but he
got me right in like where an atom's apple and
a man would be, like right in the middle of
my throat. My throat completely closed. I was gasping for
air and I could not breathe. And I went into
(11:36):
the back and I remember I was crying. When you cry,
you can't breathe.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
I couldn't catch my breath, and I went by myself
because I didn't want anybody to see me.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
But I went into the corner and I thought I
was going to die.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
I couldn't breathe. I couldn't get my throat to open
back up. And then I told myself just calm down,
try and calm down. And when I stopped crying, I
was able to continue myself and then it opened up.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
But I was so scared.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Yeah, that's gonna be getting close eyed by a brick.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
To me, it was careless on his part. I feel like,
you know, I never told them to take it easy
on me.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
But back then I was only about one hundred and
seventeen pounds or so, and I'm on concrete, right, So
you would think that he would try to protect me
more than he did, and he did it. So yeah,
I remember that by Anthony. So maybe he was choking
them a little too much. Maybe he got into his
character a little too much. Maybe I don't know, But
(12:40):
I love Gary. Look at Gary's face.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Yeah that insity right now.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Oh yeah, I love Gary. I still you know, speak
to Gary. But I just remember Parry was not into
this at all.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Yeah, that was a pretty impressive mullet he had going
on there of a doubt, And it's just funny because
I think most fans would remember him without the hair
right than with it. But this is my first viewing
of Perry. Sadam was seeing him like this, and it
took a while to I mean, he didn't go straight
to the ball. He had the flat top, you know,
he did the the what do you call the mohawk,
(13:19):
you know, he he did a couple of different styles.
But I bet you a lot of fans don't even
realize he had hair because he was he went so
long in his career without it. That's a that's a
great that's a that's a classic shots for them to
be covering that that is pretty that's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
I can't remember what happened to kron Is. He must
be selling somewhere. He must be out somewhere, because yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Because they don't. Did you cut his hair too? I
don't think so. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
And they couldn't have been more opposite as people, you know,
so two different demeanors just but it worked, you know,
they worked well together and they were great tag team.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Yeah, Cronus intimidated the ship out of me, just the
way he looked before he opened his you know, before
he you found out who he was like on air
when he was quiet and didn't really say much.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
He was like he was like Bamban Bigelow, the biggest
teddy bear.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
That he lost. That's all I've ever heard after.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Yes, genuinely sweet sweet man.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Yeah, that's cool. Yeah, Yeah, that's that's that's a loss.
He's been gone for a while. That's that's that's very sad.
And that's that's the only thing that I looking back
on some of these these some of these guys that
aren't here. Obviously Anthony no longer here as well, but
the first guys that ever acknowledged me on an indie show,
the really wave to them, they waved back. I was like,
(14:45):
and that had to have been that nobody knew who
they were outside of people who watched ECW, because this
was like ninety five. Yeah, it was a big some
of those Jersey shows back in the day.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
W show.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
No it was the nw A Jersey show. Oh yeah,
aba Jersey. No no, no, Now.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
All you need to do is wa is wave at
the Chad st and he'll fall in love with you.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Hey, when you're like fourteen, you know that's that's the Uh,
that was the way to go. Who else? There was
somebody else that night. Maybe it was Luna who came
after me and whoever I was with sitting in at ringside,
like Luna like did like a lungetis ohas gonna kill it.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
That's great, good times.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Oh that's great. But yeah, if you want to check
this out, it's on YouTube. It's uh you look up
ECW on a Current Affair. Look it up. It's mixed
with the Paul Hayman on MSNBC interview. It's a it's
cool stuff, but this is what I wanted to do. I'm
trying to find like off the wall different Yeah, like
hitting gem style stuff that'll toggle your memory and make
you remember some of this sum some maybe some of
(15:45):
the backstage stuff, some of this stuff going on around it.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
I gotta remember that. Other the clip that's in my
mind is it. It's one of these shows.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
You're right, You're absolutely right, And.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
I can't remember which one. I thought it was this one,
but I can't remember which show we were on, but.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Yeah, is that the same. I don't know if you
were there for that. When Shane did the interview on
MSG with at the Madison Square Garden was at the
same time, because I know it was. There was something
going on in New York and he was there.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
It was him and the We never did the Garden
as it was.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
He was in the Garden restaurant and it was they
filmed him doing a sit down interview with one of
the Albert brothers, Marv Albert, one of his sons, I
think it was. It was one of the Alberts, all right,
so different.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Time, yeah, but it was definitely one of these dirt
cheat shows.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
I can't remember which one was.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Inside addition, still hanging around out.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
There, Maybe it was that one.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
Maybe it was you know what we're gonna look that,
I'm gonna look for that next. We won't do that
one next, but I'm gonna look for that one and
see can look at this gendre.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Yeah and back in the nineties, and I'm sure it's
on YouTube somewhere, but.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Yeah, it was. It was.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
Finally, did you save any of Saturn's tear?
Speaker 2 (17:00):
I did not.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
I know.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
I believe I was swept up with all the other
blood and guts that fell.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Out that night.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
As if you guys needed anything else on that, Matt.
Now we have ponytail.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
There's a lot of DNA on that.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
There's a lot of hepatitis B floating around on that maps.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
So yeah, I tried to not touch it.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Hey, on, one man's trash is another man's treasure. Somebody
could build build a Saturn robot out of his ponytail.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
Yeah, I guess so.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
All right, Well we will wrap it up here for
the week. We appreciate you hanging with us again, and
uh as always for the Queen of Extreme, I am
the chadst and we'll catch on the flip.
Speaker 9 (17:45):
