Speaker 1 (00:01):
All right, and welcome into the Fantasy Pros NFL Draft Show.
The twenty twenty five NFL Draft has come and gone,
which means it's time to create some NFL franchises how
they did during the draft. Continuing in this episode with
the NFC, I'm your host, Seth Wilcock, and it's a
bittersweet feeling as this is our final episode of the year.
(00:23):
Of course, I'm joined by a man who moves the
needle for this particular program, a recent free agent when
it comes to NFL fandom, Derek Brown, Akad bro what's
going on today?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Pal?
Speaker 1 (00:33):
How are you? I give it up? Man, I'm not
a Saints fan anymore.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Mickey, you've done enough stupid stuff. We're gonna talk about it,
but you've done enough stupid stuff or I'm out, baby,
So put it in the comments. Which fan base do
you want me to gravitate to? Now? I'm totally down
with it. I'm taking all comers. I'm ready to find
a new home for my NFL fandom. I have a
few favorites right now, Seth. There's a lot of horses
in this race.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
My man, Hey, we'll take you out in Western Pa. Brother,
come out to the City of Bridges. We got enough
Iron City to go around.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Man, let's go Babby. But to your point, it's beentersweet, dude,
Like I'm I'm so excited to sit here and give
these draft grades and talk about all these players and
the teams that did and did not in the draft,
But I gotta say it's a little bittersweet. Man. I've
really enjoyed this entire NFL Draft cycle. I hope everybody
tuning in at home that's been along for the ride
(01:23):
with all of our amazing guests, all the analysis that
we put out there from the very beginning of the
process and forward. It's been an awesome process. Man. I
think you have absolutely smashed and it's been great to
host this show with you.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Likewise, Man, I've learned so much from an evaluation from
a tape watching standpoint, from you and from our guests,
So I appreciate all the knowledge you shared with both
myself and our audience and deepro Today's show does look
like this. We're gonna go division by division to break
down each team's hall and how we grade them. And
before we jump in, just want to shout out everyone
one more time who's been tuning in all off season long,
(01:57):
whether that's on the Fancy Pro YouTube channel or the podcast,
we greatly appreciate it. I saw some people hopping into
the NFL live stream They're like, oh, I never saw
these guys's faces before, So we appreciate either way. If
you've been on the audio side or the video side,
as always, please give this video a thumbs up if
you enjoy this type of content, also subscribe to the
channel if you're new. If you want more NFL draft rads,
(02:18):
be sure to check out Andrew Rickson's article on Fantasypros
dot com. The kid has been putting the words out there.
I mean, if you ever needed someone to do like typewriter,
Olympics or something, it is Andrew Rickson. Man, I mean
this guy every single week. I mean I don't know,
like during the season, he's putting out ten thousand word articles.
I don't know how many words this article was, but
it was a lot. It was a book debro, and
(02:40):
no one does it better than our guy Ericson.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Oh man, he crushed it. Man, So everybody needs to
go check out this article on Fantasypros dot com. Like,
while you're listening to the sound of our voices. You
got this pulled up on the screen, Pull this up
on your second screen and go through Ericson's article as
we're talking about these teams. He absolutely crushed this. This
was one of the best, if not the best, then
I will say that with my chest the best NFL
(03:02):
draft grade article you will find period in the space.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Let's go, yeah, pull up Andrews's article. Make sure you
guys are hearing his opinion as you're hearing Debros and
I out loud and let's go ahead, Derek. Let's jump
into the NFC East. And it was a very busy
weekend for the New York Giants. How do you think
everything ended up for Joe, Shane and company when it's
all said and done, Bro, this was.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
The dumb and dumber moment. This is when it's like
you can't do anything dumber, but now you totally redeemed yourself. Like, Bro,
they crush this draft, absolutely crush this. If you're Giants fan,
you felt like there was no way they could pull
you back in. There was no way they could give
you hope after the last few years, and yet here
(03:47):
we are. Man A plus for me, whether it's getting
Abdull Carter as a blue chip prospect and what that
looks like for that pass rush like alongside Dexter, Lawrence,
Brian Burns, Caveon Thibodeau. Whoo, it's gonna make quarterbacks lives
a living hell opposite them. And then you go back
and you tray back into the first round. Not a horrible,
like crazy premium to pay to get back in the
(04:08):
first round either. Yeah, I want to talk about the
Falcons and the idiotcy They committed it later, but with
the Giants, didn't pay a huge premium, go and get
their future franchise quarterback, franchise passer. Ye guy, we've talked about.
I've loved listed on this program with Jackson Dart. Then
you go and you address needs with Darius Alexander in
the third round, who many people were rocking him, maybe
(04:31):
as a back into the first round, definitely a second
round player. He falls all the way to the third round.
Then he had worries about Tyrone Tracy. The addressed the
running back position with Cam Skataboo in round four. So
we'll see how that position plays out through the entirety,
whether that's a split committee or one of those guys
retains or takes over the backfield, and then dude, they
(04:54):
have a type at tight end. We've seen them draft
Theo Johnson, We've seen all the guys they've had. It's
always been big, fast, super athletic, and they keep taking
swings like this, one of them is bound to hit. Now,
we could say Theo Johnson had a solid ish rookie season,
but not amazing. Dude, Thomas Faedone is amazing. I really
(05:15):
loved him. At the fact that he fell all the
way to the seventh round, I thought was kind of blasphemous,
considering his skills set, his talent, his upside, his testing,
and Nebraska just using him in a piss poor fashion.
So I thought it was wonderful value up and down
the board, addressing needs, addressing concerns, and really fortifying this
(05:38):
freaking roster. Like the only other thing I could say
is like maybe you'd say, okay, maybe they should have
added like another pass catcher to this offense and stuff
like that. But if they were to go out and
do that, saying him adding an Amari Cooper or a
Keenan Allen before week one, I wouldn't be immensely surprised,
but still at a plus, dude, Like I've no other notes.
(05:58):
I thought they crushed it.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yeah, and they really like guys like Darius Slayton. They
like Wondale Robinson as much as we, maybe as the
fantasy football community don't love them. I think this team
loves them. They just re upped Slayton as well, and
I'm with you A plus for me. They get a
top two player in the class in Carter, and as
you said, they only gave up two thirds and their
second to move up to get him. So I love
the Jackson Dart move up. And like, finally some love
(06:22):
for the mac baby Toledo defensive tackle Darius Alexander. He
should have not been there, man, he should have not
been there. And he's gonna slot in perfectly behind Roy
Robertson Harris. And like I want to ask you this, Derek, legitimately,
with Carter, Brian Burns, Sexy Dexy, Cavon, Thibodeau and now
Alexander and Roy Robertson Harris as well, is this the
(06:43):
best defensive line in football right now? It is dang close.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
You can make a case for it, you really can.
You can make a case for it, and if they're
not the best defensive line in football, seth, Like they
gotta be top five, right, Like, yeah, at your base
spent top top six, top seven, Like I'm with you, though,
I think you can make a case for it, and
I think they're definitively top five. But again, we're talking
(07:08):
about that though, Like this team could run the ball
and play defense and we'll see what we get out
of Russell Wilson and win Jackson, dark sits who knows
when that happens. But you want to talk about like
if you wanted to position this team to win games
and save day Ball and Shane's job, yep, And dude,
I'd love to sit her and Trash and the Giants
(07:30):
and stuff like that just for hilarity sake. But I can't. Man.
I think they crushed it and this is the type
of draft they needed to possibly say their jobs moving
forward for the next few years.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
One of my favorite NFL futures betting market is exact
order for a division to finish. I would maybe be
looking for the Giants to jump the Cowboys this year
and potentially finish third. Lock that in, Lock that in, yeah, yeah,
and let's go ahead and talk about the Cowboys. I
did not love this draft. I think you were a
little bit more kind than I was. I was. So
what is the grade for Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones and
(08:03):
company down here in Dallas?
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Okay? So I want to preface this by saying I
gave them a B minus, but it was because I
like the players they drafted and I like the value
that they got. I give them a B minus because
did they have filled needs and get an extract value
out of this class? They did immensely. So like getting
(08:27):
I don't think Tyler Booker at twelve. Now we can
all wax and Wayne poetic about like should they have
traded down and not taken the damn guard at twelve? Yes,
but if the offers weren't there, he's your guy. I
get it. I wasn't in love with that pick from
a value standpoint, but I think they more than made
up the value seth And you tell me if I'm
wrong with getting donovanez Raku bro. He was supposed to
(08:49):
be a first round pick and and deservedly so at
the forty fourth overall pick, and then Savon Revel in
the third round. Who was dude? He was getting first
round buzz. He was, he should have gone in the
second round, just coming off to ACL those were. It
was the value that they got and the needs that
they addressed that pushes me to a B minus. Now,
(09:09):
if you just look at also the team needs and
what I think they should have done, there's also a
very strong case to be made for them to getting
a C or a C minus in this class, because dude,
I just I hate the fact that with Dallas. I
love that they got such good value, they address needs,
(09:31):
but I also hate the fact that they're putting Dak
Prescott now in a position to just do exactly what
he had to do last year. It's go make plays,
score points, score touchdowns, which you got I'm sorry, Dallas.
To win ball games. It's not only about preventing scoring.
You actually have to score, go out and score touchdowns.
(09:52):
You actually have to go out and put points on
the board because his defense is going to be okay,
it's not an elite level where you can expect that
they're gonna hold people to ten, twelve, fourteen points every
single week, and you just put Dak Prescott in a
hole where he's gonna throw too. I mean, come on
Man after Ceedee Lamb, we got a pass catching corps
(10:14):
of Jake Ferguson, Jalen Tolbert, Jonathan Ingo, Ryan Florinoy, Kevon Turpin,
and Jalen Brooks. Like that's not even talking about Javonte
Williams and Miles Sanders, Like do you honestly think that
that that is gonna get it done? So Like for me,
it's like that's where it's like you could make a
case for this be like a C minus or a
D like, but I can't. I grade them higher based
(10:38):
off of the value they got on the defensive side
of the ball. And I'll go ahead and say this
on my chest. I think what it's all said and done,
We're a week seventeen and they don't add anybody else
to this backfield. Jane Blue, who they got in the
fifth round will be their starting running back.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Yeah, I mean keeping them in the state of Texas.
I really did like him going there in the fifth round.
And I also did like the value on Florida linebacker
Shamar James, who again did become the prospect I think
we all thought he was going to be, but he
was a former freshman All SEC player down there in Gainesville,
So I went with a C plus. But it's basically
just because what you said, man, Like this was a
(11:14):
really deep class at running back and tight ends, and
there were plenty of serviceable wide receivers on Day two
and Day three, and they just missed the mark man like,
like you already went through the wide receiver corps man.
Outside of Cede Lamb, it is the worst one in
the league. And if Lamb gets hurt, like season goodbye,
like it's over it, you know, yep, pack it in.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
So you're not scoring points, you're not moving the ball.
And even with Lamb, I mean, we saw how it
happened last year. Like, defenses are just gonna say, fine,
if we take away Cede Lamb, who the hell else
does you have to beat us?
Speaker 1 (11:45):
And they did.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
They still didn't answer that question. It's still oh CD, yeah,
who else you.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Got this year?
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Like, can we both agree to moving from Rico Dwdle
to Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams is a definitive downgrade
in their run game. Yes, that sucks, man. I hate
it for da I hate it. I hate it for
Dak Prescott, but I do like the other guys they.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Got agreed, agreed, Yet, before we move on to the
rest of this division, I did want to remind everyone
about our Dicey Rookie Draft simulator that lets you complete
a mock draft in minutes with no winning between picks.
You customize your league settings to match your league's exact format,
and if you're a premium subscriber, well you could test
trades scenarios by mocking your traded draft picks, prepare for
(12:31):
rookie drafts, and Dicey startup drafts all in one place.
Use the Dicey Rookie Draft Similary to dominate your rookie
draft today at fantasypros dot com Slash simulator. All right, Debro,
we're onto the Washington Commanders, who didn't have a ton
of picks because they've been very active in the trade
market so far this offseason. What do you give the
Washington Commanders grade wise?
Speaker 2 (12:52):
I gave him a B. I thought that their top
two picks were really, really good. Nowash, I think they
still have a glaring need and a hole at safety,
which they could have addressed and decided not to. But
also you could say the same thing for protecting their quarterback.
So I think getting Josh Connelly, who's going to be
their plug and play starting right tackle, was fantastic in
(13:15):
the first round. Trey Amos falling to them, I mean
basically the rest of the NFL just gift wrapped him
for them in the second round. Now after that, why
I can't get higher than a bee? And honestly, you
can make a case where it's a B minus or lower.
Whereas like after that, it just kind of went off
the rails. Dude, Like, I'm sorry, Jalen Lane in the
fourth round.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Head scratcher, Dude, we know who that.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
To me, it's not a head scratcher, only in the
set and the fact that this is Cliff Kingsbury doing
some goofy stuff. Cliff Kingsbury has gone after this archetype
of player, whether it's Andy Isabella, Rondell Moore, numerous years
and it keeps burning him. And like a fool, he's like,
I'm ready for more. I'm ready to do it again,
and I'm like, dude, stop, just stop.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Yeah, So that was.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
A horrible pick. There are other picks looking at you know,
the woman linebacker round six, whatever it's lines, it's round six.
I understand it. Like Bobby Wagoner is not getting any younger.
If he can be a starter for the next year,
I understand. I will give also some shine and not
a whole lot of like love list of like round
seven picks on this on this show. But Jacory krossky Merritt, thanks,
(14:23):
thank you, wonderful pick in the seventh round. So the
other thing is like, when I looked at their roster,
it was like right tackle, safety, cornerback, running back. Those
are the big needs, and I mean, do they okay?
So out of those five needs, four or five needs,
they address three of them, and I do. I will
say this also, if j CM krossky Merritt would have
(14:45):
played the entire season, there is no way in hell
he would have been available in round seven. He is
really good, dude. I think he makes some noise. God,
I don't want to get over over my skis with this.
If he stays healthy and this is truly a really
a competition, if you were to tell me that he
(15:06):
walks away like in week seventeen he's the starting running
back for this team, I really won't be surprised, dude.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to either. Man, Like this
was a guy at Arizona pretty good in twenty twenty three,
and we just didn't see him in twenty twenty four
because he had eligibility issues in the.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
CAA screwed him, That's why.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Yep. And like, there is still Brian Robinson there, there
is still Austin Eckler, but uh, Jacorey krossky Merritt. He's
someone that at the end of my dynasty rookie drafts, like,
once all the picks are made, I'm throwing my fab down, Baby,
I'm throwing my Cab down. I'm throwing the Jaxi squad. Yeah,
absolutely so, Yeah, I'm with you. Jalen Lane pick super weird.
So I went with a B plus And maybe that
(15:46):
was being a little bit generous, but I thought they
they just hit on those first two picks so well
that it was hard to hard to knock what they
did later later in the draft. But let's go ahead.
Let's move to the Philadelphia Eagles where, man, like, maybe
it wasn't as impressive as the last two years, but
Howie is still Howie and I still think he got
crazy value, including in round one Jahad Campbell coming all
(16:06):
the way down to thirty one what was your great
for Howie and the Eagles?
Speaker 2 (16:10):
I gave him an a and really again kind of
like with some of these other teams, how well or
how much are you gonna bump down a team when
they only have two picks inside the top hundred, you know,
so I think that plays into it. But I think
the two picks that they got inside the top hundred
were both smash picks, man like Jehad Campbell following to
them at thirty first overall pick. Yeah, that was ridiculous, dude,
And it just straight up because you hear, oh, he's
(16:34):
falling down boards because he's got a shoulder issue.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Hm.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
You do realize that, like the shoulder surgery is not
gonna put him out for the entire year, nor where
is it career threatening? Right? Okay, then why are we
bumping him down any boards?
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Right?
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Like? So what so what? But again, this is how
the Eagles get value every single year by the other
thirty one teams doing something stupid collectively and so home
run picks with the first two guys they got Johd
Campbell and Makuba like and both of them Phil needs
for this team, and then the rest of it was
(17:06):
just building depth. So like again like round four and afterwards, yep,
I like all the players, you know, like I could
spark you know, I could split hairs about saying, why'd
you get Kyle mccorb when you already had Tanner McKee.
I do think that. I don't. There is no way
that I felt like Cameron Williams when we were walking
into the draft. Dude is going to be a round
six pick. So getting him in the house and saying, yes, fine,
(17:31):
you all think he's a ball of clay, but you
all apparently think he's a ball of clay that can't
turn into anything because you let him fall into round six. We,
on the other hand, could take our really good coaching
staff and we can mold this ball to clay. And
if we do that, you're all going to hate yourselves
for the fact that you didn't draft him. So again,
how are we doing? How any things awesome? I gimm
and a pretty much.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Like almost a seventh round pick is what they got
Williams for like one of.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
The last picks in the sane Dude insane.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Williams at one point was projected to go on Day two,
So I don't know what caused him to me either fall.
I don't know if it was character concerns. I don't
know if it was an injury we didn't know about,
but that was great value. And I actually really like
Kyle McCord I think like he at least gives you
a guy where if Jalen Hurts were to go down
or sit out a game, you got a guy. And
Kyle mccordor can throw the ball around. I mean led
(18:18):
the country in passing yards this past season, so I
love that. And you mentioned Andrew mccooba. Dude, this is
a guy I don't think who's talked about enough in
a lot of draft circles. Not only was he great
down in Austin this year, he's a baller at Clemson
for Dabos Sweeney the year before as well, and CJ.
Gardner Johnson left this secondary, so that's a huge hole
Day felled. And then also another Bulldog linebacker Smaille Munden junior. Dude,
(18:42):
he was kind of the captain of that Georgia Bulldogs team.
So I mean, it's just a classic Collie draft and
I think he did the most with what he had
to work with. I was almost gonna put an a
plus but I just gave it a solid A because
didn't have a ton of draft capital. Hard to give
a you know, a big A. But overall, I think
we both loved. Honestly, I think this entire division outside
of the Cowboys knocked it out. I really liked it.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
So yeah, I agree, But you know Cowboys are gonna cowboy.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
Yeah, I gotta get Jerry Jones. I mean I heard,
I saw a tweet like someone needed to like, you know,
put him like.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
A closet and him near a microphone phone decision making anything.
Put Gollum back in the cave. Please.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Speaking of owners who are temperamental to say the least,
temper got an absolute hall. As we transition to the
NFC South, the Carolina Panthers one of my favorite draft
classes of this process. What did you think about Carolina
and what they did, Derek.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
I dude, I gave him an A. I thought this
was a really strong class, and I think especially when
you look at what they did in the sense of
a lot of people are like yeah. And I fought
with Joey and I fought with Pat on the stream
about this. Going with hetero McMillan in the first round
over we're getting somebody like we all consistently mocked Jaylon
(20:02):
Walker to them in the first round, or an edge
or however defensive player, and I'm like, that's great and grand.
This defense isn't one defensive player away from actually being good.
So no, you need to go out and give who
you hope is your franchise quarterback a true number one
weapon and allow him to basically say, this season, we've
(20:25):
surrounded you with an offensive line. We have given you
a number one weapon. The rest of your weapons for
pass catching are solid. You got Chewbe Hubbard in the backfield,
and we even fortified it more. If Rico can't be
the RB two, we're not getting anything out of Jonathan
Brooks this year. If Rico's not the RB two, we
gave you Trevor e Ten as well. Bryce Shung has
zero zero zero ability to just say I didn't have
(20:50):
enough around me. But that's what they needed to do
to find out if he can be the guy or
if he's not the guy. And they're drafting a quarterback
next year, so you add all of that on top
of they also got Nick Gordon round two, they got
Princely in round three. Both of those guys were getting
buzz to go around earlier than where they got them,
and they still addressed other needs on the depth chart.
(21:13):
Like I'm not like immensely high on Jimmy Horn Junior,
but I think that you look at the Colorado wide receivers,
he was the best one easily far and away. Yeah yeah,
well outside, Yeah, sorry with the idea of not including
that conversation. But the other thing about it, dude, is
if Mitchell Evans can come back yep and be the
guy that he was in twenty twenty three and not
(21:36):
the guy we saw coming off of torn acl that
is another home run pick. He might be your starter
for the next five to eight years, dude, because in
twenty twenty three he looked like he was off to
the races to have a smash season. Like we're discussing
a tight end and I know that, like I'm getting
all hopped up about a fifth round tight end. But dude,
in twenty twenty three, this man was sixteen yards per
(21:57):
route run and seventh and receiving grade. Again, I just
think they crushed the draft seth. But what did you
give him?
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Yeah? I gave him. I went further A plus for me, man.
First of all, the Tetero McMillan pick, I know it's gonna,
you know, everyone's gonna feel some type of way about it.
I think I honestly should have bet that the Panthers
the take of receiver at the number it was because
it made a lot of sense that they wanted to
surround Bryce Young. So I love that pick. Also, you
know't you mention Ohio State safety Latham Ransom in the
(22:25):
fifth I mean, I know he's not like a blue
chip prospect or anything, but give me a guy from
a winning culture who's been coached up by some of
the best in the country. So I love that one.
The Trevor etm pick, I don't really get like I
feel like we're just Hordon running backs over there in
Carolina a little bit. But you know, aside from that, man,
I cannot complain one bit. Like you said, Scoreton, I
(22:46):
saw potentially maybe a Day one pick, and then Princely
Human Mellon as well out of Old miss He was
a guy who early in the process was getting like
late Round one, early day two steams. So yeah, I mean, Carolina, man,
they have no excuse is now not to succeed in
my opinion.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
Agreed, big degree, Let's go ahead.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Let's move on to your favorite team that might have
some excuses. It's the New Orleans Saints. What do you
think about what the Saints Mickey Loomis and Kellen Moore
did down here?
Speaker 2 (23:13):
Done, I'm done, I'm done. Done, I'm not so it
be for done. Bro. I give him an F. It's
the only F I've given out in this entire class.
Forget the Saints, Forget them, like I'm sorry, dude, this
whole entire draft class, just outside. Okay, fine, Calvin Banks
was a good pick at nine. Yep, yep, fine with that,
(23:35):
totally fine with that. And after that, Mickey Loomis said,
hold my beer, I'm gonna go do some dumb shit
right now, Dude, Tyler's shucking round two when you're bypassing
every other quarterback that's still on the board for you, Like,
I'm not a mill Roe stand I would rather have
mil Row and his upside if he were two hit
over Tyler shuck. I am sorry, but no way, no way.
(23:56):
And then you look at all the rest of their pick,
Vernon Browton, like bro seventy first overall, this guy had
an EEDP and a peak of like in the nineties hundreds,
and you take him seventy first. Overall, I don't dispute
that the Saints have a need at Dtackle. I have
been mocking them detackle the entirety of the draft, because, yeah,
(24:17):
Brian Brees has not turned out to be who they
hoped he would be. And then you take Jonash Sanker
in round three. Again, his EDP was in the one teams.
A lot of people had third to fifth round grades
on both of these players, wild swings. And then we
go and we're taking one linebackers, we're taking corners. Devin
(24:38):
Neil was a good pick, but that was in round
six and you weren't pay well. I'll say, the two
guys that I liked out of their entire class was,
or excuse me, three guys that I like out of
their out of their entire class was taking Banks in
round one, yep, Devin Eel in round six, and then
and then signing Marcus Yarns as a UDFA. But outside
(24:58):
of that, Mickey Loomis, you can miss me with the
rest of this crap you call a draft. I am
done as a Saints fan until you were gone, and
we can clean up this freaking mess from years and
years and years and years of total and absolute buffoonery.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Yeah, I'm with you, and there's not much to add.
I just would like to put a little context around,
like Tyler Shuck because you like Tyler Shuck prospect, he
was my QB four this entire process, but but.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Not fortieth overall, and not especially when dude, I don't
even know if Derek Carr plays this year, so you're
asking him or Spencer Rattler, and I would just straight
up say it. If they would have drafted Shugar Sanders,
I would have given them probably a C, maybe a
B minus yep, yep to pick Tyler Shuck over him.
(25:53):
Just there's no way I'm about it. Not.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
What about the Atlanta Falcons, Debro, did you like what
they did? Obviously trained back into the first four, but
paid a very hefty price to do so and acquire
James s Pears Junior.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
I'm being nice. I think this is being nice. I'm
giving them a C. I think it's being nice. And
I know a lot of people, especially Falcons fans, are
out there caping up and they got all types of
they're just drinking gallons of copium right now, just trying
to make sense of this. I really like their top
three picks. I'm not going to say that I don't.
(26:26):
I really like Jiln Walker, especially where they got him.
I really like James Sears, I really like James Pearce.
I love Exavier Watson. The third freaking round, I love
all those picks. Dude, giving up as much draft capital
as they did to move up for James Pierce was
absolute over aggressiveness and ridiculousness. The Rams are sitting here
(26:50):
just like laughing their asses off to the bank. And
I'm telling you this right now, seth. If the Falcons
don't win this year and massively, if that front office,
if Raheem Morris and Terry Fonteau do not make the
playoffs this year and this year is an abject disaster,
they don't do what they hopefully can do. If they don't,
(27:12):
they're getting fired. Dude, Just walk down this road with
me for next year. They are walking into a twenty
twenty six class where they have only one pick in
the top one hundred. They have only four picks total,
one second rounder, a fourth rounder, and two sevenths.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
That's it. So if you don't get this right Atlanta,
which you still have big questions in the secondary at
basically because Ajterrell is good, he ain't that great. You've
got big questions at every cornerback position. You better hope
your pass rush gets home because if it gets left hung,
that's dry because quarters aren't staying with anybody. Dude, and
(27:57):
this team. You better hope that the Michael Pennock selection
last year doesn't blow up in your face because again,
wildly aggressive and I don't care if we can all
look in the rear view and say, okay, fine when
you pair it with even if Pennocks pans out, you
pair it with the money they gave Kirk Cousins, which
still right now, I'm willing to tell you the jury
(28:18):
is still out on Michael Pennix for all of the
capital this front office and head coach have burned through
over the last two years. If these hefty swings don't
pay off, they're gonna get fired and the next GM
that comes in there is gonna say, what the hell
do you want me to do with this? Because I've
(28:40):
got no ye now, I've got no ammo. I've got
nothing to be like where I can recoup this with
four picks only total and one pick inside the top
one hundred. So for Falcons fans Raheem Morris and Terry Fontino, Dude,
all I can say is I freaking hope you get
it right because if not, you'll be looking for jobs
(29:01):
next year.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
Yeah, yeah, for sure. And like, I gave them a
bee and maybe that was generous because like I do
think Jalen Walker at fifteen is absolute steal. Like that
is one of my like, like for value sakes, that's
one of my favorite picks in this draft. And I
love James Pierce Junior. I mean I had multiple bets
on him going in the first round, had him over
mill Row as well. But at the same time, I.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Don't giving up a future first just to move on.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
No, no, I see, And that's the issue in like
I like Exavier Watts and I like Billy Bowman as well. Yeah,
they got from Oklahoma on Day three, but they do
have Jesse Bates already, so that was a little bit confusing.
And then the one thing that that made me go
with a bee is, you know, projecting things out, but
their seventh round pick, offensive tackle Jack Nelson. This is
(29:51):
a guy who was supposed to be an absolute stud
in Madison. I used to work for a Green Bay
publication back in the day, and when this guy committed
their five star recruit, everyone was jumping out of their seats.
They thought this guy was gonna be the next big
thing there on that Wisconsin Badgers' offensive line. It wasn't.
He never just reached the ceiling, but maybe he can
with the Falcons. So I really kind of like that
pick of Jack Nelson there. I thought that was an
(30:13):
interesting play. And like you said, I love the picks
of Jalen Walker, James Pearce, and Xavier Watson. I think
they got three legit starters and a guy who maybe
could be an offensive tackle in this league in Jack Nelson,
even if it's, you know, bottom thirty two offensive tackle.
So that's why I like it.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
This might all hit and they look good to your point,
but there's also a really high chance that this blows
up in their face.
Speaker 1 (30:35):
M hm. And they just gave a top ten pick away.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
They're not equipped to sit here and deal with if
this fails. They're not that they have no they have
no ammo, no ammo to sit here and hedge against
it and I'm sorry, Like, dude, like, how many guys
do we see? How many teams we walk away in
saying we love this draft class, we love this player,
and the players don't hit, man, So it's like, yep,
you got to give yourself outs also to like, yeah,
(31:00):
if the flush jaw doesn't hit, you're not screwed, you know,
pushing your chips all in and at the end of
the night you're sitting there with empty pockets and saying,
oh my lord, I'm reconsidering everything.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Let's move on to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Derek, where
this was an interesting one right from the start because
I don't think anyone at a Mecca ABUCA mocked to
go to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round.
Kind of a weird fit for twenty twenty five. But
with that said, what was the overall great and sentiment
that you have with the Bucks and Jason Light after
this one.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
I'm gonna give him a B minus. And maybe I'm
being too nice here, but I do like what they did.
Addressing edge was one of the big big needs of
this of that defense in both round four round five,
and I'm kind of bearing the lead here, but like
just going up the board looking at it backwards, cornerback.
We all believe that cornerback was a big need, so
(31:50):
double tapping that position and getting Benjamin Morrison and getting
Jacob Parrish for two really standout picks. My problem with
and why can't go higher than a BNUS is that
I know that everybody's trying to like bend over backwards
and talk about how like a Mecca Buca was a
pick for now and for the future and also the
kind of stuff, and every Bucks fan out there is saying, oh, well,
(32:13):
Mike Evans was gone after this year. Him and Chris
Godwin are getting older and that's why we did it. Dude,
why did you pick Jalen McMillan last year? Why did
you also resign Chris Godwin? And nobody, nobody was holding
your hand and forcing you to resign Chris Godwin. So
you look at the the how this wide receiver room
(32:33):
is constructed, Chris Godwin a Mecca Buca. There is duplicity
there as well as I can craft you a really
good argument that Jalen McMillan is also a better slot
than he is a perimeter wide receiver. So like, what
are we doing here. We're going four wide, we'd run
in like five. What are we doing here? We've got
three slot wide receivers and no home. Chris Godwin's got
(32:54):
enough money where he's tied up on the team maybe
un till twenty twenty seven. Yeah, it's a club option,
but at least for the next two years. So you
can't tell me this is a hedge against Chris Godwin
and his health, Then why the hell did you resign
the guy? And the last point I'll bring up to,
like why the Egbuka pick makes no sense to me?
Because everybody in Tampa Bay, like all their fans are
again coping and clamoring to like Mike Evans is gone
(33:17):
after this year. Dude, I think that that is a
gross overstatement and really trying to wish cast a lot
of things of why you love this pick and make
yourself okay and at peace with it, because here's the
reality of it. Mike Evans is a Tampa Bay buccaneer
until he decides to freaking retire. He has played his
(33:38):
entire freaking career with this team. He has a first
ballot Hall of Famer. He has consistently stacked one thousand
yard receiving season after one thousand yard receiving season. And
I know he was injured last year, but outside of
that seth, he showed no fall off in every discernible
freaking metric that I can pull up for you, Like,
(33:59):
out of a hun and twelve qualifying wide receivers, Mike
Evans was second in separation and fourth and route win rate.
If he does it again this year, he's not going anywhere.
Tampa Bay will re sign him. And that makes the
pick of a Mecca Buca look really asinine when you're like, well,
now we've got all four of these guys and there's
(34:21):
a glut, and maybe we shouldn't have taken the wide
receiver in round one. So again, I thought they addressed
a lot of needs, but on the first round pick
of a Mecca Buca, I just feel like they shouldn't
have gone that direction. And it's just it doesn't make
any sense to me.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
I'm right there with you, man, because like, look, I
like Ben Morrison come out of Notre Dame twenty twenty
three all consensus American and could have been a Round
one guy before hurting his hip this past year. And
like I like Parish too, but when you had John A.
Barron on the board there right, instead of taking a Mecca,
I think that probably would have been a better fit.
And like I I think a Mecca. Abuka is one
(35:01):
of my favorite players in this draft from just a
player standpoint, Like.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Sam, I loved him, dude, he was my wide receiver three.
In the process, It's not like I hate the guy,
I don't. I just I hate the process of the
non process by the Bucks for an office.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
The issue is that, like we all saw it, Chris
Godwin's best in the slot. We saw the year that
everyone who thinks Dave Kanalis is an offensive whisperer, he
ran Chris Godwin the entire year pretty much on the
outside and he was almost a no factor.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
And they started last year the same way until they
moved him back into the slot and then he took off.
What are you doing with that? Like, so you're gonna
put a Mecca book on the outside probably not, Like
I just I can't make sense of the dude.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
And then like other than returning, like why waste the
pick on Ted Johnson? Like unless you're looking for a
punt and kick returner, Like that's it?
Speaker 2 (35:50):
Because I mean apparently we're every single wide receiver that
Tampa Bay values outside of Mike Evans is a slot
wide receiver.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Yeah, Like it doesn't really. Yeah, So I gave him
a C plus, you gave him be and I think, like, honestly,
the reason that we're being kind is because the Ben
Morrison pick was great.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
That in the pairs, the other picks were good. Man,
That's why I give him a B minus. And I
don't want to jump it lower than that, but like,
I just don't. There's so many parts of pieces where
like people are trying to talk themselves into the Abuka
pick with the idea that Mike Evans is gone next year.
And I don't think Mike Evans, if he plays to
the level he played this year, he ain't going nowhere, dude, nowhere.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Before we move forward, I did want to remind everyone
that by now, most of you have probably already heard
of Reality Sports Online, the powerful fancy sports platform where
owners get to build and manage their fancy football team
like an NFL general manager. But the question is have
you tried it yet? It's time goes see what all
the buzz in the Dynasty community is about free agency
(36:49):
multi year contracts, a rookie draft, multi team trades, franchise tags,
contract extensions, first round rookie options, automated contract and salary
cap functionality, and much much more. If you think it
sounds complicated, it's really not. And the best thing about
Reality Sports Online Fantasy Front Office is that it takes
no more time than a standard fantasy football league. It
(37:10):
just requires a bit more strategy. If you think you're
among the fantasy elite, well, this is the platform to
test your metal. Still not sure? You can test out
your GM skills for free in a mock free agency auction.
If you'll like what you see, use the promo code
Fantasy Pros to receive a ten percent discount on your
team or league today. Again, that's promo code Fantasy Pros
(37:30):
to receive a ten percent discount on your team or
league today. Fantasy just got real at Reality Sports online
dot com. All right, we're moving to the NFC North,
starting with the Chicago Bears, who everyone and their mother
thought Ashton Genty was gonna go to. He did not.
They pivoted. What did you think about the pivot and
the overall collection of picks for the Bears.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
I get him a b minus man, I just I
don't hate this class, but like I feel like a
lot of their picks were Ben Jonson putting his stack
on this roster and Saint these are my guys. But
then if you look at the current state of the roster,
you're like, why did you do it? Like where do
we start? Where do we start?
Speaker 1 (38:11):
Well, you can start at the top of Colston Lovelin
over Tyler Warren definitely is a little bit of a mark.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
It's choice, man, But like I understand if Loveland's your guy,
I get it. But again, like okay putting their stamp
on the offense. My biggest problem was Luther Burden in
the second round, which you know, I am not a
Luther Burden person, but like at the same time, it's like,
you already have DJ Moore, unless you're trading DJ Moore,
how does that pick it make any kind of sense?
(38:37):
You already have Roma doonsay, you just got Colston Loveland,
So like Luther Burden, the archetype of player. It's like,
and I'm gonna I'm gonna say this on my chest.
If anybody's out there in the streets and you see
them talking about Luther Burden, and making anything in the
same breath to Amena Ross Saint Brown. Just know that's
not somebody you need to be listening to for advice
(38:57):
or things regarding football. They are not at all similar. So,
whether it's the burden pick, whether it's you know, putting
a stamp on this roster, like even Ozzie Travilla, like
like round two, like I get going with the tackle,
but like felt kind of like a reach, Like I
thought same. I felt like if you were going to
(39:21):
address needs or things that you because I'm not saying like, look,
Shamar Turner in round two as well, good pick that
I was saying over and over they needed defensive tackle help.
But it's like, if you were going to address certain things,
why wasn't a corner? Why wasn't a corner before round five?
Like you can make a big reason like and lots
of really good reasons were Yeah, Tyrek Stevenson, let's upgrade there, Okay,
(39:43):
Kyler Gordon and we think Jaalen Johnson that's are the
two guys, but we need an upgrade elsewhere. Fine, and
then I mean, dude, I really liked the pick of
Kaman on guy round seven. I really like that pick.
Because I think there's a really big chance that he
usurps Roshawn Johnson and he's the early down guy to
compliment DeAndre Swift. But again, like again, I'm not in
(40:06):
love with DeAndre Swift. Why didn't you? I mean, like,
maybe he's a Ben john Maybe that's Ben Johnson's guy
from Detroit, and we read it all wrong. But like,
I just I feel like some of the ways they
went in this draft were them trying to put their
stamp or Ben Johnson trying to put his stamp on
this roster, and I feel like maybe you just proved it.
Maybe your stamp is broken, and maybe it's some of
the steam you got is a little bit unjustified.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
Dude, Yeah, so you have a B minus I've seen
minus and one.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
Ooh, I love it.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
Well, it's a pick because Loveland over Warren is questionable
to me if that's your guys guy, But then like
Burden over running back in the second.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
Dudude, I'm with you. I'm so with you, so with
you about that.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
Here's the thing, de bro like they had Caleb Johnson
was on the freaking board. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
R J. Harvey, Like they had their guys that would
have been a perfect fit for outside zone. You're like, honey, boo,
but what are you doing here? Come on?
Speaker 1 (41:01):
I just think in a draft where the Bears had
four top sixty picks, they should have come away with
more and they didn't, and that.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
Is well, dude, I felt like Ryan Pole's doing goofy
stuff like he usually does, or Ben Johnson just making
some wild swings and being like, I'm gonna look like
the hero. Bro. If you don't look like the hero,
you're gonna live long enough to see yourself come the villain.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
And I know in dynasty circles people are panicking about
Roma doon'sday. Let them.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
I'm okay with Bio. I'm I'm not panicking about Luther Burden.
Coles to love when we can have a conversation, but
Luther Burton, Yeah, that's not putting the ebgbs in me
about Rome.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
I just got a nice deal for Rome yesterday. I
had a manager panicking. I trade out a couple of
picks to get him. So just something to kind of keep.
Speaker 2 (41:45):
In mind there.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
I think over time, Yeah, let's go ahead, let's go
to Green Bay Packers. This was another team that I
didn't really love the draft honestly, like, I don't mind
the Matthew Golden pick with him following all the way
to twenty three. Overall, I just don't like any of
their other draft except Texas edge Baron Soren, who hung
around the entire draft until Day three. Guy's name called,
he went out in the crowd high five to everyone
(42:07):
outside of that. I just I just don't like it.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
De Bro.
Speaker 1 (42:09):
I don't know about you. It's a D for me.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
Bro. I hated this draft. I hated this and I
thought it was really funny. Pat and I were kind
of waxing poetic or just I guess licking our wounds
like in text messages. It's like so funny. You know,
he's a Packers fan, I'm a former Saints fan, and
we were like, man, are the gms here competing for
the worst draft in all the NFL. Dude, I didn't
give them an F, but I gave them a D minus.
(42:32):
I'm with you. I hated this draft up and down,
through and through. Matthew Golden in the first round. We
could talk about it. I don't profile him as a
true wide receiver one. This feels like Matt Laflor just
saying ah man we're gonna go committee. We're staying with
the wide receiver committee. Dude, it hadn't worked out. You
think it's gonna change. You needed a guy when the
(42:54):
chips are down, your back is against the wall. You
need a true alpha to be able to go run
your passing off through and for Jordan Love to lean on.
You didn't have that walking into the draft. You sure
as hell don't have that walking out of the draft.
No shade against Golden. I think he's a talented player.
I find with him going in the first round. But
this is how Green Bay chose to address their wide
(43:14):
receiver room. I just don't see it. Anthony Belton was
a reach in the second round. I thought he was
more of a third round type of tackle. Save On Williams.
I thought we just got the wide receiver one for
the Green Bay Packers. So what in the absolute hell
are you doing? Gouda Kuns going back to the wide receiver.
Well with a guy that's manufactured touch guy, he's I
agreed exactly. You have the version of this already in
(43:39):
another player. Why are you doing this yet again? And
so for the rest of it, I'm just like, I
just I don't see it. Man. It was either reaches
or just not understanding what your your needs were and
how to fill them. The fact that they didn't add
an edge until round four, still have questions about their
pass rush. They didn't touch the tackle and I mean, dude,
(44:01):
I'm sorry, Belton the moon the needle for me about
addressing your offensive line. So maybe I'm wrong, but I'm
willing to say that the GM for the Packers is
the one that's wrong. They get a D minus. They
were really close to being the only other team that
got an F out of this class.
Speaker 1 (44:14):
For me, the only way the SAVI pick makes any
sense is if they profile him as an X and
they're like, hey, we're gonna play We're gonna play Golden
at flanker and we're gonna run Jane Reid out of
the slot like that.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
You get you get in too deep, seth. I'll tell
you what. I'll tell you exactly. What is why is
exactly why green Bay saw big and fast and they
want fast. They went to Golden, they saw fast. They
are absolutely overcome with loving speed. We also say, maybe uh,
(44:46):
green Bay is the new I mean, they're basically they're
just pulling off yesterdyear Al Davis draft, big draft, big
and fast. We like hot, nasty, dirty speed. Okay, well
you can't really do all the rest of the things.
It doesn't really mat Yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:01):
If anything, they should have moved some of the wide
receivers they had on on the depth chart already, get
rid of Romeo. He's been a problem child for a
while there. It feels like, so, yeah, I'm alright with
moving off him or Wix or something if you're making
these moves. But they didn't. Let's move forward. Minnesota Vikings.
I didn't really like this draft at all either, but
I'll let you tell me why you did.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
I mean, I gave them a B. And this comes
down to another draft class of Okay, you got one
pick inside the top one hundred, so like, how much
are you really going to like? And the other thing
is this roster didn't need a lot of needs, and
I'm not saying that like gives you any kind of
credence to just phoning in. Okay, mm hmm. I love
to pick of dominant Jackson in the first round. I
thought that was perfect for what they need in their
(45:43):
offensive line. Needed a guard. He has versatility to play
other positions. Ty Felton is a round three pick lea
get debated for days.
Speaker 1 (45:50):
I don't like that one.
Speaker 2 (45:51):
I'm not in love with Tye Felton. I'm sorry, Warren,
but I'm not sorry. Like the fact that I just
wasn't high on Tye Felton. I get taken swing on
a wide receiver. Typ Felton's not my flavor choice of
where I would have gone with that swing, but I
understand taking the swing on a wide receiver. We still
don't know if Jordan Addison is going to get suspended
in this upcoming season, as well as outside of Jalen Naylor,
(46:14):
like they don't really have an answer for slot wide
receiver when they want to go three wide. So if
you want to take a swing on Tye Felton, I
get it. I will say one of my favorite guys
in this draft class because I think that there is raw,
untapped potential and his usage in college was absolutely got awful.
I think we could see a much better NFL career
(46:34):
than we saw collegiate career for Gavin Bartholomew. Yesde he
his film, watching him movement skills, testing his film. I'm
not even gonna lie. Maybe feel some things when I
watched him, and so the fact that they took the
swing on him at the very end. I loved that pick.
(46:54):
Like I was like watching his film. I was like,
if there's a tight end that I could see go
six or round seven in the NFL draft, or a
team takes a swing on him in round five, and
when all the chips are like when we turn over
all the cards after two or three years and we're like,
that guy became a solid starting tight end and maybe
there was more upside. He's pretty freaking good. That's Barthollmew.
Speaker 1 (47:18):
The thing I liked about him is Pitt was playing
with a freshman quarterback, true freshman quarterback Eli Holstein, who
had a pretty good season I think compared to what
everyone thought he was going to have. And Bartholomew was
just his guy man like when they needed to pick
up some gritty yards fourth and three, third and six,
it felt like this guy was consistently being targeted. So
(47:39):
I liked that pick. I also like Kobe King linebackerunt
Penn State as well, and like I'm fine with the
Donovan Jackson pick. I gave them a D though debro
because I thought hm I picked twenty four the New
York Giants called them. They had to have called them
and asked them to trade back, and they didn't. And
if I were them, I would have trade back into
the second did something similar to what the Texans did,
(47:59):
get a couple more picks. That's where I am.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
If they didn't get the trade offer, if they if
like there were no trades to be had, if that
wasn't part of this, what would you give them? Because
I know you give him a D and you didn't
like the fact that they stuck and picked and some
of their other games. But if they didn't have the
offers and they had to stick and pick, do you
do you like the pick a John Donovan Jackson? Or
would you have gone elsewhere? Like looking at the board
(48:23):
and needs and all that kind of stuff, like you
you can make a really good case like they could
they should have gone safety like Emon Warry was still
on the board that was in need, I think Unto
car was still on the board. You could have gone
in that direction. So I don't I don't hate that.
But like so, if they didn't have the offers, what
would you have given himself?
Speaker 1 (48:40):
Probably a C still because like I just don't tie
were to pick, like, I know they need a slot
guy and you you bring up the Jordanasen could be suspended.
But at the same time, I thought Naylor, while he's
not a true slot guy, I thought he played really
good at times. He had an name for finding the
end zone. So in a draft where you have five
picks and you have, you know, a Lindakoff Award winner
(49:01):
on your roster and Jordan Addison and the best flider
receiver in league, that was kind of just a little
bit weird for me why they went that route. So
I guess you could bump them up a C minus
and Donovan Jackson's fine, but I still would prefer even
though they necessarily didn't need a legit tackle with Dereshaw there,
Like I would have loved if they would have gone
Connerly or potentially even Josh Simmons there over Donovan. But
(49:25):
Donovan's a fine player too. So yeah, just not super
high on the Vikings draft. What about the Lions draft,
because this is one I think a lot of people
are mixed on. I think I'm higher than consensus on
the Lions draft. What are your thoughts on what they
did with the first draft without Ben Johnson in the house.
What did you kind of think of what the Lions
and Brad Holmes did?
Speaker 2 (49:44):
Oh, dude, I felt like they got way too cute
with this. I feel like this was this felt like
some serious hubris and I'm not saying that. Like, look,
I like Tyreek Williams. Tyrek Williams in the first round,
I don't know if I like that. Tate Ratleice totally
down with that. Fills a need right where he should
(50:04):
have gone. Round two. Good pick between Tyler Williams, dude,
and the part where I feel like we only went
off the rails and we just got lost in whatever
the hell we were feeling we were We just went
straight vibes with Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes. I cannot
square trading up and trading two future thirds. So they
(50:25):
gave up their original third to move up. Okay, cool,
they gave up two more thirds.
Speaker 1 (50:31):
Yeah that's tough.
Speaker 2 (50:32):
Three thirds to move up for freaking Isaac Tesla. Like,
somebody's got to square that with me. Dude. I get
he tested well, I understand that crazy, and I understand
after this year, Yeah, they're probably gonna need another wide
receiver because Jmo. Is they they picked up the fifth year,
(50:52):
he's not going to be back after this year? Paying
Kirby Joseph, I think like they're already signaling he ain't
coming back. That's fine, but you trade it up and
you gave up that much for freaking Isaac Tesla, who
is an athletic power slot in college, who doesn't have
the analytical profile, the counting stats, anything to justify. Dude,
(51:17):
tell me this. Could you have gotten Isaac Tesla in
the freaking fifth round, maybe the fourth round, much less,
not paying up and giving up as much capital as
they did to go get.
Speaker 1 (51:27):
Hit they I do have thought someone was taking him
to move that much right and they wanted it.
Speaker 2 (51:32):
I would love to tell you yes. But also when
you look at how the Detroit Lions have drafted in
previous years, they have no issue throwing caution to the
wind and drafting, say a Jack Campbell in the first
round moving up for guys, and I understand that that
all looks makes you look like you're a damn genius.
When it hits. Yeah, not every pick is going to hit.
(51:54):
So if that's the case, and we're talking about not
every pick is going to hit, it felt like an
overly aggressive move for a player of Isaac Tesla's pedigree
where he was probably gonna go and the other needs
on this rost I just that's the hard part that
I have squaring with it. Man Like, this was like
the low key version of what the Falcons did in
(52:17):
the first round to me, and that's where it's like,
I just hell no, Like I gave him a C minus. Dude,
I'm sorry. Like Lions fans, I'm sorry. I love Dan Campbell,
I have a shit ton of respect for Brad Holmes.
I can't square this man like, I just can't square
to my head. I'm sorry. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe
Tesla turns out like yeah, he's a dog, he's gonna
(52:38):
be awesome and he pans out being way better than
anybody gives him credit for. I will be wrong with that.
But as we sit here right now today recording this,
I can't.
Speaker 1 (52:51):
Yeah. I actually have Tesla circle to someone later this
week to go do some more digging on because I
felt like an eb I missed something with him that like,
obviously the testing scores were great, so he is someone
I need to circle back on because I feel like
I want to trust Brad Hoolmes. I want to trust
what you're doing here, but it's it's very, very tough.
Speaker 2 (53:10):
And it's a leap of faith. Leap of faith.
Speaker 1 (53:12):
Yeah, yeah, And I think I like Tyleek Williams more
than most people. I think for sure, when he was
getting top fifteen buzz that was a little bit much.
But another guy who's coming out of a program that
just came off a national title. He's been coached by
some of the best in the league from all accounts,
as a great leader in the locker room too. So
I like getting some blue chip guys like that. And
LSU guard Miles Frasier in the fifth okay, Like that's
(53:34):
a guy who's played alongside Will Campbell. I think him
and Tate Rettledge rebuilding that interior of the offensive line
like they already got suled. They already got some great
guys on that offensive line. But so I don't hate
it from the Lions. A B might be generous, A
B minus might be more appropriate, potentially with giving up
all those future thirds. So I really like that breakdown
from you. Let's go ahead and pivot to the NFC West,
(53:55):
where the San Francisco forty nine ers were the first
team from this division drafting for once, and I don't
know if I love what they did. What about you, Derek, I.
Speaker 2 (54:07):
I gave him a C dude, So I'll say this.
I like the Mike hil Williams pick in round one.
I like the Alfred Collins pick and roll two. After that,
I'm just kind of like.
Speaker 3 (54:17):
Uh, you knew you needed to fix the trenches because
I guess my biggest standout here Seth, and you correct
me and tell me how you feel differently.
Speaker 2 (54:33):
This offensive line is not good outside of Trent Williams.
Dude like that.
Speaker 1 (54:37):
I can't.
Speaker 2 (54:37):
I can't square that, bro Like I can't. Yeah, I
can't square that. I can't square both trenches. Both D
line and O line were bad. I understand that, and
so I understand giving a little shine or giving shine
to the defensive line. I understand that. But then you
go off ball backer, you go cornerback, you go d tackle,
(54:57):
then you go wide receiver, and then we're we're drafting
Jordan James of all freaking players in the round five.
That's the part where I can't make sense out of it.
Curtis Rourke is a is a total nothing burger. For
me in round seven.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
I like Curtis Rorke, but that's always been my guy.
Speaker 2 (55:15):
But again, like you, they don't address the offensive line.
The offensive line that is, even with Trent Williams, is
still a bottom five offensive line. They don't address the
offensive line until set round seven with a guard. Yeah,
that's the part where I just mmmmm mmm. They get
(55:36):
a see, they get a see for me.
Speaker 1 (55:38):
I think the tough part is is I think they
wanted Calvin Banks in the first Maybe maybe they got
sniped and maybe they had a pivot. But at the
same time, like they did lose Jalen Moore, who is
the backup to Big Trent right like they lost him
to the Chiefs and free agency, so the.
Speaker 2 (55:53):
Kivots is not good, like and they lost starting guard
Aaron Banks and say what you want, but still starter
goes out and he's not good. Do you think the
backups any better?
Speaker 1 (56:03):
Yeah? I like the Jordan Watkins pick. I think he
I like that, I will say, yeah, we had a
lot of people on the show who liked him, So
I think between that and the Curtis work, they got
a little sweetener up up to a V minus for me.
But I could totally understand how it's a dude. Listen,
if Brock Purty goes down, Curtis Rourke, his ceiling is
like a low end Brock Party brother like he is.
(56:25):
He is a great backup for Brock Purdy. I love
that you will be a roar.
Speaker 2 (56:29):
Stand I'm gonna go in the wayback machine. I'm telling
you right now, if Brock Party were to get hurt,
I'm rocking Tanta Mordecai stuff. That's where I'm wow.
Speaker 1 (56:38):
Okay, okay, all right.
Speaker 2 (56:40):
Now, everybody's gonna go google who the hell is? Yeah,
it's worth of Google.
Speaker 1 (56:45):
Than hanging out there. All right, let's go to the
Arizona Cardinals. This this is a draft. Actually loved. What
did you think of what the Cardinals did down there?
A lot of speculation with do they start maybe trying
to look for the air parent of Kyler Murray, maybe
they pivot off him. That they didn't. They didn't give
him much weapons either. But a very defensive draft, but
a very good draft I thought. For the Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (57:06):
Oh yeah, a minus. I thought this was Jonathan Gannon saying,
we have got to improve our our defense and we're
gonna make a very concerted effort to do that. I mean, dude,
only one pick, not in a round six on the
offensive side of the ball, and it was just a guard.
So like, this was a concerted effort. And I thought, dude,
Will Johnson, if he ends up being healthy and he's
(57:27):
able to come back, that's gonna be a maybe a
smash pick. I mean yeah, I kept mocking cornerback to
them in round one. I have no issues in them
taking Walter Nolan, but Jordan Birch in round three, who
he got some steam about maybe going on round two,
was another solid pick. I mean, really, this was This
is a damn good draft, dude, A minus. Love it.
Speaker 1 (57:46):
Yeah. Two Ohio State guys on Day three two, Denzel
Burke and Cody Simon. So yeah, my only critique is
like I wish they maybe would have added another receiver.
Speaker 2 (57:56):
Yeah, that's fair. I just don't agree.
Speaker 1 (57:58):
And I've been a big MYL. Wilson guy since his
days out there in Stanford. Yeah, they needed.
Speaker 2 (58:05):
Somebody else to stretch the field. Like if you were
to tell me, like it's in the fourth round or
something like that, instead of going, uh, Cody Simon, if
they would have gone like with Thornton or somebody like
that or something to stretch the field. I would have
liked that a lot more, to be honest, considering all
the other draft picks that they made to to address
the defense to that point.
Speaker 1 (58:24):
Yeah, hey, maybe they're a landing spot for someone like
a Mario or Keenan Allen. We've talked about it. I
think they could very very well benefit from that. Everyone
likes playing down there. Phoenix, great area. Kind of a
dog crap organization. I know, the building and everything they get.
Speaker 2 (58:40):
Yeah, bid Well ain't spending much on his players and
stuff like that. He's he's the guy that's like, has
got the soda machine in the locker room where you're like, yes,
I'm paying a dollar for Gatorade. What do we do?
Speaker 1 (58:50):
It is like moneyball?
Speaker 2 (58:52):
Yeah, yeah, it's moneyball. It's moneyball. The Daved Justice part
dollar for soda. Soda money. That's how we make it.
Speaker 3 (59:00):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (59:02):
Yeah, good golf courses down Phoenix is what I hear though,
So that's an attraction. Let's go ahead. Let's move forward
to the Seattle Seahawks. I love this draft as well.
What did you think of what Seattle did eighteen at
Grays Abel. I was like, maybe that's a little early
for an offensive guard. However, he said afterwards like, oh,
what are you gonna do rest of the night. Oh,
I'm on dip into these bush lights, Bud, give myself
(59:22):
a little twelve hour roll here. So maybe maybe I
do like grays Abel. I'm a bush light guy out here,
Derek gown in Western Pa. So I can get behind
maybe Gray Zabel in this entire draft, way, do you
think I gave.
Speaker 2 (59:34):
Him an a man? I thought it was a fantastic
I thought it was a good draft class. Zabel fits
a need. I would have liked to see them have
have have gone back to the offensive line early in
this draft, like before, like you know that, Yes they
did add a garden attackle in round six and seven
and stuff like that, But I would have much preferred
if like instead of you know the one part where
(59:57):
I guess it shows their non faith in to a
certain extent and Sam Donald, I guess my crossroads with
this is why are you going out and paying Sam
Donald the amount of money that you paid him? And
then you took Jalen Milroe in round three. That's the
part where I'm like, dude, I really feel like you
should have spent that on more offensive line help for
(01:00:19):
Sam Donald instead of taking a quarterback. That's the part
where I have an issue with it. I mean, I
still gave them an A because I thought their first
few picks, or their first three picks were fantastic. Dude,
like Greg's abel awesome, nickim and worry plug and play
a McDonald's second round. Let him let him just be athletic,
run around and hit people. It's gonna be awesome. Elijah
(01:00:41):
Royo my tight end three of the entire process, dude,
like he he fits a huge need, big upgrade over
Noah Fan. What he can be his ceiling, Like if
he would have tested and he would have been health
like not coming off to ACL and stuff like that,
you could have like honestly said, like he should have
garnered some first round buzz if he would have been
fully healthy, like and getting Tory Horton in round five,
(01:01:03):
I thought it was really good too. That add to
little wide receiver room. So I like a lot of
what they did. And again like getting get you know,
and we can go down the board Damian Martinez in
round seven, Ricky White fine depth editions. We'll see like
I think it's telling of what we do and what
we don't know about Damian Martinez that he fell all
the way to round seven. So we'll see how that
(01:01:24):
plays itself out, whether there's like injuries or off the
field stuff. That's probably part of that because as a
guy that I think a lot of people were thinking
he was gonna go round four, maybe round five. So
to see him dip that far was very interesting. But dude,
it's I walk away from this saying I wish they
would have gone offensive line in round three and not
(01:01:44):
gone quarterback. I'm still giving him an A.
Speaker 1 (01:01:47):
Yeah, I'm with you. It's an a for me. And
one of the undercover sneaky values I think they found
here was Riley Mills, defensive tackle out of Notre Dame.
This is the guy. He's probably not gonna see him
maybe all this year. Derek or Is acl in the
college football playoffs when Notre Dame was making that historic
run to the championship. But Riley Mills, not only is
(01:02:07):
he a great player, but he's a great locker room guy.
To captain of this team, I think getting him in
the field, like if Riley Mills is healthy, he doesn't
tear his acl easy Day two pick, so I think
getting him a third round pick probably yeah, yeah, So
I love that with Horton in the fifth. So I'm
all in on what the Seahawks did, And like, I
don't love the mill Row pick when you do have
(01:02:27):
Sam Darnold kind of makes him feel like a little
bit of a minor Kirk Cousins situation. But either either way,
I think it was a great draft for Seattle. So
I'm really happy with what they did. What do you
think about the Rams? This was kind of a pretty
interesting draft, specifically because they were on the other side
of that Falcons trade up and then get the Falcons
future first for next year.
Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
I mean, I with that move alone, they're getting an A.
So I mean I gave them an A for this
because just that move alone and getting the two first
for next year. So I mean, already walking into it
like they have the firepower that if Stafford says, look,
this is my last year, I'm not coming back, they're
(01:03:08):
positioning themselves already to say, look, we got the firepower.
There's a quarterback we want and we want to be
aggressive about we can move up and get our guy.
So I think positioning themselves this year to not only
win and compete and the guys that they got, but
also for next year was just a master stroke by
Sean McVay and Less Snead, And then you go to
the picks and stuff like that. I love a lot
(01:03:29):
of what they did. I thought Josiah Stewart was a
really good pick in the third round. Terrence Ferguson, he
is the heir apparents at tywer Higbee. Now we can say, Okay,
could they've got him in the third round, Maybe, maybe not,
but he's super freaking athletic. They're gonna need a starting
tight end after this year because tywer Higby. I don't
think he's coming back. And I think one of the
(01:03:50):
biggest sleepers that when we walk into talk about Dynasty
Ricky drafts and stuff like that Brum draft and all
the freaking Jarquez Hunter that I possibly dude round four.
I think it is extremely telling when you look at
the archetype of the two backs they have on this team.
And I know everybody that loves Kyraen Williams. I'm not
telling me you don't love him, but we also have
to have a real conversation here.
Speaker 1 (01:04:11):
People I love Blake Korum, but you know that's a
different question.
Speaker 2 (01:04:14):
But neither one of those guys are giving you an
explosive element and big plays. And I think taking Jark
west Hunter in the fourth round is an indictment on Korum, Like,
tell me if that's not seth Like they took Blake
Koram last year where they got him, they too did
with decent capital yep, and then they felt the need
(01:04:35):
to go back to the running back position in round four,
which it's like, Okay, are you telling us that you're
not totally sold on Blake Korum as the long term
answer at that position. And the other part about this
is Kyron Williams is in a free agent year, so
they're just not going to pay him. There is an
out where's dark west Hunter could be this year's Bucky Irving.
(01:04:57):
And I'm like, I know he has two players to
hop I get that. Nobody walking into Week one was
going to tell you last year that Bucky Irving was
gonna fully unseat for Sead White. There was nobody out
there saying that. And I'm not telling you that, Okay,
could that I'll be Blake Korum fine, But Jarquez the
juice that he gives you, the big playability that he
(01:05:18):
gives you, and the ability to take on volume. I
think it's very telling that they drafted this guy in
round four and the big difference between the archetype of
running back that he is and the explosives he can
give you on the ground versus the other two guys,
and the capital that they sunk into this very position
last year. Yeah on a team, dude, Like it's not
(01:05:39):
like they had a ton of freaking picks, Like this
team didn't have. Like, yeah, they traded back and they
got more, Okay, but it's not like they didn't walk
out of this like they got six selections. They only
had two picks inside of the top one hundred when
it was all said and done. So to take a
running back with the top one twenty pick, I think
is very telling as well.
Speaker 1 (01:05:57):
Man oh I agree. I already draft to Jarques Hunter
in the third round of a Dynasty rookie draft yesterday,
and like, here's my issue is like with Auburn is
I feel like in general the running back position there,
like everyone was after Tank Bigsby a couple of years ago.
I watched Tank in college. I wasn't that impressed. And
when Auburn played Penn State the last few years, every
(01:06:18):
time Hunter came out, I was like, who is this
other guy? He's just explosive and he's quick, and Yes,
so I really do like Hunter. I think he's gonna
be a great pick, and overall I gave him a
B plus just because, like, I don't love the Ferguson
pick really like I get the upsides there. I don't
love the players, but I love what they did with it,
right like I love getting that Falcons pick. So I'm
absolutely there with you.
Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:06:39):
