Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to Fitness Disrupted, a production of I Heart Radio
Welcome to Fitness Disrupted. I am Tom holland let's talk
about staying in shape while traveling. It is one of
the many yeah butts I have heard dealt with for

(00:21):
many years. Back when I was a trainer, there was
one of the yabo yaba, Tom. You don't understand I
travel a lot. I it's really hard to stay in shape,
to get in my workout, to eat healthy when I
travel frequently. Now I now travel frequently, both for business
and for when I compete different races. I have traveled

(00:44):
all over the world China, New Zealand, Malaysia, South Korea,
oh my gosh, you name it, many many other places, Brazil, Australia.
I mean I've lost count of these countries. So myself
included super busy, travel freequently. So that yeah, but we're
going to talk about that. Yeah but uh and we're

(01:05):
gonna have an amazing guest too. As I do here
on Fitness Disrupted, put that myth to rest. That's what
we do. We talk about the science, we talk about
the real world application, and I give you people who
have done it, and then tips on how to do
it yourself. So that's the topic of this show, staying
in shape while on the road. And when we talk

(01:26):
about on the road, that could just mean being busy.
You can be a mother who is crazed, you know,
literally on the road in that truck driving around sport
to sport, activity to activity. Listen, I get that too.
I grew up with five brothers, six boys in the
family and we were all over the place too, So
I get it, and we're gonna put it all into context.

(01:48):
So whether you are a rock star, a country music
rock star, or country music star like our guest coming
up shortly, you can do it. You can do it.
And that is always the overarching theme of Fitness Disrupted
is giving you the information the science to get you
on the path to your success and then to tell

(02:11):
you can do it, because far too often in this world,
the articles you read say you can't do it. You
can't do it, it's your genetics, you're too busy, uh,
and just give you all of these reasons to give up.
And that is not what it's all about. So I
trained CEOs, literally billionaires, celebrities over the years, the busiest

(02:32):
people you could imagine, people who travel like crazy, and
it is true that the busier you are, the more
you travel, generally, the better shape you're going to be
in if you apply the tips and the tricks we'll
talk about today. It's when you have too much time.
Let's be honest, When you have too much time, it's

(02:52):
really easy to fall out of shape, to fall off
your program. And when I travel and I'm in hotels,
I don't have access to the food that I have
in my house. So it's a twofold thing when we
talk about sticking with your program, staying in shape while
traveling or being super busy out and about you have
less access to food. It's when you're home, you've got

(03:13):
hours upon hours you're sitting in front of the TV.
That's when you're you're munching away. So it is choices
and it is access when you have That's one of
the major issues we have today with obesity is food
is so plentiful. Now if we distill that down even
more when you're out and about, when you're traveling. When
I'm in South Africa, food is not as as readily,

(03:35):
but I don't even know what I'm eating. I mean,
I love one of my favorite things when I travel
is to go to the local supermarket in a foreign
country and just see what they offer. It's so cool.
It's such a fun thing, you know, see what the
local food is. And I have no idea half the
time what much of it is. And I often reach
out to friends who are from those countries to ask,
as I'm literally standing in the supermarket, what the heck

(03:58):
is this? What do I buy? But again, I'm here
to tell you that no matter how busy you are,
how much you travel, you can do it. And one
thing this show is about is the extremes. I do
iron Man to learn about the extremes and to teach
you because most of you aren't going to do an
iron Man. Most of you aren't gonna do a marathon.
You're not gonna do a half marathon. I get it,

(04:20):
but I learn how to distill that down to make
it available and easy, easier for you to do. So
I'm going to have guests on like the one coming
up shortly, because if he can do it, you can
do it. Everyone has their issues, everyone is busy, everyone
has challenges. It's about planning. It's a big one we'll

(04:41):
talk about, and it's about choices. And the third thing
goes to something I talk about on just about every episode.
It's shorter workouts, right, it's working out in your hotel room.
It's going for a walk when you're traveling, going for
a run. One of my favorite things when I travel,
whether it's for a race or for business, which is
you know, the races are part of my business. It's

(05:02):
exploring where I am being in a foreign country and
literally sight seeing by foot or by bike if I'm
there for a race like a triathlon. But it's about
planning and fitness. Disrupted is about bringing you the top
researchers and authors and scientists right to give you the science.
But it's not just that that would be really boring,
may be really helpful. It is really helpful. But what

(05:24):
I've learned in my three plus decades in this industry
is we need the science and then we need the
extremes to kind of learn from them. And when I
say extremes, this guy's country music star. He's going around
in a bus. He's living the lifestyle, but he's also
living the excessive moderation lifestyle. And you'll hear about that.
It's work hard, play hard, so you're gonna get the scientists.
You're gonna get the celebrities, the right celebrities, by the way.

(05:47):
And then you're gonna get the real people, my gosh,
the real people, the people like David Garcia who lost
over a hundred fifty pounds and kept it off for
years upon years. Those three categories are what this show
is all about, because it's not just one thing. It's
not just following the celebrity going you know, I'm gonna
do exactly what that person did. No, you have to
figure out what works for you, food wise, exercise wise,

(06:09):
motivation wise. So I'm gonna bring you all these different
guests telling you all of these different things, and we're
gonna we're gonna put it into buckets. We're gonna go, Okay,
let's figure out what works for you, and what works
for you today probably won't work for you in a
couple of months or a year from now, and that's
perfectly fine, that's perfectly normal, and you don't beat yourself
up about it. But I'm gonna give you the actionable advice.
I'm gonna bring you these really inspiring people to inspire you.

(06:34):
And I get it. It's not the first person, necessarily
the second person or the third person who inspires you
something quicks you know, that's the billion dollar question, what
motivates you. I talked about my master's program Exercise science
and sports Psychology, and I went there thinking I was
gonna learn how to be the Tony Robbins of fitness,
and one of my sports psychology professors said, you can't

(06:57):
motivate people, and I was like, that's nuts. I talked
about this on previous shows. That's why I'm here. But
what you learn is you give the information, you give
the facts, you provide incentives, and then people find that motivation.
But I'm gonna keep giving you all of these different
great guests with great knowledge and information because, as I say,

(07:20):
the disruption and fitness is information. You can't possibly get
to your destination if you're following the wrong directions, and
that is the problem with fitness. So if you're someone
who travels like crazy, and I love that because most
often they were my Wall Street CEO type guys who
are flying first class, flying privately, access to the greatest ones,

(07:44):
I'm like, so, and we'll talk about this. So wait
a minute. It's really hard to eat healthy on the road.
You're you're eating at the best restaurants, they will prepare
food any way you like. And these were very finicky
people to begin with, many of them, not everyone, but
every restaurant has chicken just about or some kind of protein.
If you're a vegan vegetarian, you can find something for you, right.

(08:04):
So it's choices. It's not impossible. It's challenging. It takes
a little preparation and then it takes being consistent. So
coming up after the break, could not be more excited.
I'm excited about every guest because they're all awesome. I
met this guy working. We did one episode of a
kind of a reality TV show together about a year ago.

(08:26):
He's going to talk about staying in shape on the road,
because this guy is the real deal. Not only is
he a country music star, he is a former Division
one collegiate football player. So this guy has walked the walk,
talks the talk. One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet,
and approaches fitness and his career and puts the two together,
which is rare I would argue in music, but he

(08:48):
does it. So after the break, coming up country music
star Chase Rice, we'll be right back, all right, and
we're back. Uh, we're talking all about staying in shape
Will on the road. We're talking about staying in shape

(09:09):
Will traveling. I'm talking about staying in shape when you're
busy all the yeah butts right, That's what I talked
about all the time, the yeah. But it's been dealing
with him for years. And who better to dispel the
myth that you can't stay in shape while you're traveling.
You can't stay in shape on the road than a
country music start. So Chase Rice, thanks so much for who,
by the way, is literally on your tour mus right

(09:30):
now as we speak, right driving. Yeah, we're rolling from
Ohio to Florida, so we got a long driving Listen,
this is this is one tough days, man to get
up at some point get the work out of it.
But you have a bunch of tough days, right, I mean,
it's it's it's it's I hope that your tour schedule
it's crazy. Yeah, it's pretty nuts. I don't know if
anybody in the industry that tours are than we do.
But I kind of take pride that I love shows,

(09:52):
I love getting other cities, I love getting to the world.
But yeah, I mean, like what you were discussing with
what you do. Um, it's very difficult to stay sape,
very difficult to stay. And for me, it's not even
just about physically the body mentally too was the biggest
part from me. I so love that you say that.
Let me give Before the break, Chase, I was telling
people how we met. I think it was about a
year ago. So excited because I do. I played drums

(10:12):
and playing bands growing up, and so the fitness and
the music were always two things from me and Chase.
And I filmed one episode of this kind of reality
show about outfitting his tour bus with some fitness equipment
out in Duluth, Minnesota, and I gotta say Chase, because
I never really We saw each other quickly after, but
one of the coolest days I've had in many years
because we shot the TV show, We talked fitness, got

(10:33):
to work out with Chase, and then took in his show,
which was an outdoor theater du Luth, Minnesota. Beautiful summer night.
I was just one of those nights that you've never forgotten,
you know, your band, Oh my god, I mean it
was just it was so much fun. It's a rock
show man. Yeah, we like to um, I love country music.
I grew up on country music, and some of my
stuff is pretty country, some of us not at all. Well,

(10:54):
that was it. I was amazed at your guitarists. They
were some rock guys. Yeah, I mean it's definitely a
rock So so I'll either do you typically to do
the full band, or it's just me and a guitar. Like,
I don't want to do any broken down. I'd rather
just be me in a guitar or the full band.
But yeah, I mean that's a reason enough for me.
I run around a lot on stage and move around
a lot, and so I gotta be in shape physically
a little bit to keep that roleing and and and

(11:15):
be able to sing at the same time. But it's
also mentally. I mean I remember show two years ago.
I was so worn down that I canceled the next day.
In the halfway through that night show, I was like,
I don't care what we have tomorrow, I gotta go home.
I mean, I can't do this anymore right now. So
after that show, I was like, I never want to
have to go through that again of mentally just being
so drained. So I actually hired a full time trainer
and I don't. I think I did that after Yes,

(11:37):
after we met, I don't know. Yeah, right after that,
I got a full time trainer. He's buddy of mine.
He's a marine, and he works with me, works at
a lot of people in Nashville as well. But that's
been huge for me because my biggest thing with working
out is I can do it myself. I can get
on it and I can get in shape, but then
I'll take a week or two off and that turns
into three months. And with him and I'm not allowed that.

(12:00):
Don't allow myself. He doesn't allow me to just the
simple fact of even days where I don't feel like
going hard, at least I get up and I did something.
And I don't allow two months to go by without
getting anything in. And I've noticed a huge difference because
even the last couple of weeks, I've had some downtime
and I've not worked out as much with hunting and
stuff like that, whatever happens in the fall on the
start of the new tour, but I've gotten probably five

(12:21):
or six workouts and then I would have never got in.
So it's been huge. And I love that chase because
what I talk about all the time is the future.
Fitness is two things. It's working at at home or
on your tour bus, you know, wherever you can. But
it's also shorter workouts. Right, So, and I want to
talk quickly in a couple of minutes about your background,
but with the with the athletics. But it's not about
going to the gym for an hour. It's not about
going to the gym for half an hour. It's what

(12:41):
you just said, right, It's it's working it in and
what I say chases like people have to stop saying
justin only like oh I only did thirty minutes or
I only did twenty You did twenty, right, and that
counts right? Yeah, I know you're you're dead on with
that because for me, I do fast it too, because
I like some nights all eight pizza on the bus
late at night, if it just happened as part of
tour life. But then I wake up the next morning
and I probably some days I won't eat till twelve one,

(13:02):
two o'clock in the afternoon, but I got up to
to workout and in the meantime got a protein shake
or whatever, and that allows me to burn whatever I
had the night before, And like you said, even if
it's a thirty minute thing where we're going hard, I
got something. And I mean that's better than waking up
because usually for me, it goes hand in hand. If
I wake up and I decide now I'm not working
out today, then I'll lead a bowl of cereal, I'll
eat like craft the rest of the day. I don't

(13:24):
know why, but when I work out, then I meet
healthy the rest of the day. So they go hand
in hand for me, and that allows me to physically
be in good shape to mentally be right and ready
for the show. Oh my god, I love it because
that's the thing Chase too, is people people judge their
fitness program just on weight loss. And you started the
show by saying, and I love that because I'm there too.
You know, I say, I used to work out for vanity.
Now it's about sanity, right, It's about my head and

(13:46):
I'm more productive. And again you're the guy who's you know,
literally on a tour bus as we speak, going from
Ohio to Florida, so tiring and putting in a show
at night. And and what I love too, And let's
be honest, like I'm all about excessive moderation. I don't
cut anything out. I do every thing right. So I
had a guy who recently chased traveling for work, and
he was shocked that I was drinking wine at night.
And I was like, listen, work hard, play hard, and

(14:06):
and I won't that about you guys too, right, it's
you work hard and you play hard, and you can
do it all. You don't have to deprive yourself. Yeah,
I mean, I can promise you if I just went
all in with Oregan, all eight as healthy as possible,
look as great, like a possibly. Look, that's not gonna
last very long. I'm gonna go a month or two
and then I'm gonna be like, screw this and go
go back the other way so we can depend on

(14:27):
them full on the other side, and that's not gonna
look pretty. So yeah, for me, it's moderation. Just get
up every day, do what I gotta do to get
my work done, and then enjoy it too. Yeah. I
mean I drink. I drink before shows after shows. Yeah,
and some nights I'll drink and I'll eat something bad,
But then I'll get up and I'll work it off.
As simple as that. For me, it's all a moderation

(14:48):
to me, it's not a diet. I eat what I
want for the most part. But yeah, it's it's moderation
for me, and it allows me to still enjoy life.
Was still also being in good shape. Yeah, and you
again had to nail on the head, I'd say, Chase
when you said, because there's all these stupid articles out
there that say, is it diet, is it exercises it cardio,
it's all of it, right, And but you said, right,
when you start your day with exercise, you make better

(15:10):
food choices, You feel better about yourself about fielding right
and having the energy. And again the fact you started
the show by talking about you do it so that
you can do your job. And you said that when
we were filming the TV show, and I love that
you said, you know, I'll never forget you said, I
have to give a great show to my crowd, to
my audience, and I owe it to them to be
in the shape mentally and physically to do that. Yeah,
and we still use a lot of that equipment you

(15:30):
guys gave us that day, which is kind of awesome.
We have backtrack because I love this two things. First
of all, Chase, Rice is the real deal. When it
comes to so you played at the football linebacker. I
love your college football picture, by the way, Chase, I'm
looking at it right now. I was about to ask
you it said, I think you're weight when you started

(15:51):
was like to ten and you're up to two thirty
to forty by the time you graduated, which is typical, right,
But again, a linebacker University of North Carolina, so you
were you, we're playing football. And by the way, backtrack,
even from that you in high school you ranked him
on the top twenty five players in North Carolina. That's
saying a lot. There's some football down there. So yeah,
I was a good player Physically, I wasn't even close
the most gifted, but I worked harder than most and

(16:15):
I was smart. I studied the game, and like I said,
life's not about being physically the best. There's a lot
more that goes into it between your ears. So that
was where I really really worked hard and try to
be the best player I could be, along with trying
to be physically the best that I could possibly be
as well. So there's a lot more, like you said,
with food and working out, there's a lot more that
even goes into football and music and all that there's

(16:36):
a whole lot more that goes into just being the
best thinger, the best, best linebacker on the field, the best,
most physically gifted. It's not always about that. Yeah, working hard,
believing in yourself, all those things that we hear about
all the time and you read about on Instagram, but
very few people actually apply it. I say, you know,
they hear it, they read it, but they don't really
embrace it. And doing the little things a lot, right,
not doing a lot a little bit. I love that.

(16:57):
And when I saw you, you had just had a
shoulder injury, so you had the football injuries typical of
collegiate players, and then you would hurt yourself. I think
it was like snowboarding, right, so you know, all these
excuses to go, I'm not gonna work out, but you
kept working through it. Yeah. I'll say, this is the
weirdest injury I've had because, first of all, I so
I tore my pack snowboarding, and it's still it's the
only time I've ever had an injury in my life

(17:18):
where it didn't affect what I do. Fully, I could
still do my job with the injury that I had,
you know, tearing my ankle and football it into my
season having vocal surgery. I had vocal surgery and that's
I mean. I was off for three or four months
from that. So this one was like, uh, I got
the surgery on a Wednesday, and I have a show
on Friday and I could still do it. That's awesome.

(17:38):
So and I'll say the coolest part about the whole
rehab was I went to the rehab process like a
month and that was it. I was like, I'm done
with this because I didn't need to fully rehab it
like an athlete. But what I did was, like I said,
I had a bike at home and I'd start doing
regular workouts. I would just do them way less weight
and slower than I would normally do. And I don't
suggest this to everybody. I would say, he go to

(17:59):
get your rehab, go do what you need to do
from the doctors. But for me, we just kept moving
it and kept dicing it at home and kept doing
regular exercises and it heeled perfectly. So it was a
cool injury for me to have because it didn't stop
me from being able to do what I wanted, what
I love, And like you said, I did a little
every day for it just at home and I just
did a little stretches, you know, a little strengthening stuff,

(18:19):
and I'd get on the bike and move it, move
it with my hands with the bike. And that was
huge for my rehab because now that broke up a
lot of scars issue and allowed me to have a
pretty healthy pack now. And that's what's so crazy, Chases, Like,
you know, I'm older than you, but back in the
day when you got hurt, they would tell you to
arrest it and do nothing. And now, as you just said,
it's actually get back and doing something as soon as possible,
right to keep it moving. And that's just awesome. I mean,

(18:41):
you know you you don't. You can't afford to be down.
You gotta as possible. I took the sling off away
before I was supposed to, but because I which the
slings there to protect you and keep you from hurting
it worse. Thank god I didn't do that. But what
it did do is it Yeah, it allowed me to
move it and get more mobility and breaking up all
that scars. As you before before, I love it yet.

(19:01):
So my short little football career, I was the expendable
running back Chase who got killed by guys like you
playing line back and back. I was the guy they
called up to be the tackling and I used to
take out my own stitches right just like you know,
take that because you wanted to get back and let
me say too, because again, just the credibility, the real deal.
When I when I met Chase and we we walked
up to his tour bus in Duluth, they had you

(19:24):
guys had your storage open underneath and there were the
dusty dumbbells. So even before we gave you equipment, you
guys had you know, you had been working out obviously,
and I loved you said you were using your beer
cooler as your bench. We had the beer coolers, the bench,
and then we just had some vans, a jump rope,
and a couple like an adjustable dumbbells that were actually

(19:45):
that was both flex there's just an old set and
now we use now we used, we wouln't have to
use the beer cooler anymore. Thanks um. Still still for
the most part though, it's it's a lot of body
weight stuff. It's we used the bench and the dumbbells,
but uh, the bands, I mean, it's you don't have
to have a ton of stuff. We don't have a
whole lot, and we don't have this whole semi full

(20:06):
of weight and equipment. It's just a few things. But
that's all you need. That's it, and that's you know,
people talk about all the time, I don't have a
lot of space, I don't have a lot of time. Well, again,
you're on a bus. The fact you have anything on
there that's exercise related is ridiculous, right, because I mean
spaces at a premium, and as you're saying, you don't,
it's just it's body weight, you know. I always say
push ups, and people ask me the best exercise for

(20:27):
me if I did choose one, it's just push ups
because you know they've been around forever. They work. Right,
So you don't need a lot of time, you don't
need a lot of space, and it doesn't matter how
busy you are, just get something in and start your
day that way, right. I mean I used to train Chase,
you know, the top celebrities and CEOs in New York
City and stuff, and all of them started their day
with exercise. Yeah, I mean yeah, the high, high functioning

(20:48):
people typically aren't aren't lazy in any way, right, And
I've never been lazy. I just can't allow myself to
go there. But there's been times in my life where
I'll let myself start slipping all that and you can
notice quality or life goes down. I mean, it's as
simple as that. And I don't want that. So that's
why I get it in every day, right. And you
started the show by saying, and I love it. It's

(21:10):
about your head first. You know, so often people get
depressed and they feel good about themselves and so you
don't move and you get heavy. So it's that slippery slope.
And when you just do a little bit and you
start your day that way and you start feeling good
about yourself, as you said, then the whole day is
better and you're able to do what you want to do.
And let me give you. Physically, your brain develops, it
develops that I guess it's is a saratonin. You got it, Yeah,

(21:31):
And it develops. I don't know the details of it,
and I don't need to, if that's the truth. That's
what I asked my buddies when they still text me,
and they'll be like, we try to stay on each
other and stay you know, accountable, and it's like, hey man,
you're doing okay? Is everything are in life? I love it?
And when when we're down and stuff, it's like, well,
what's the first question I asked or they asked me
is like are you working out and need healthy? Yeah? Right,

(21:52):
that's the only thing you can control. Sometimes get on
that and then talk to me in two weeks, Chase,
I love it. I say that there are three things. Right.
We control what we put in our OUs, how much
we move in our attitude. Right, and you're living proof
of that. And tell people because I love this too.
So when I met you, you had the hat on
in the clothing, the T shirt h d EU. Explain
people that great story behind that. Yes, head Down, Eyes Up.

(22:12):
I started in college and I didn't start as a
clothing line. It's turned into that, but it's just h
DU head down, eyes up, and it's all about for me,
that line mentality. Forget about the what's on your right,
what's on your left, people telling you're great, people telling
you suck, forget about all that, forget about the result too.
You got to focus on the steps you gotta take
to get you to where you want to go. And

(22:33):
that's all you can really control. And that's the day
by day thing. So that's the head down, eyes up mentality.
And I try to stick by that every single day
because and it's hard to do because life stuff sometimes
simple as that. If you stick to that mentality, you
gotta wrote a good chance and tell me if I'm wrong.
It originally came out of you, wasn't it rehabbing and
having your head down and looking up and just a
great story. Yeah, I was. I was looking at myself

(22:54):
in the mirror and I just saw myself in my
head down, my eyes were up, and I was like, dang,
I look pissed. So I just kept saying that myself,
head down, eyes up. And it's kind of like, like
I said, it's that line mentality. I'm gonna attack this threat,
this day, this this song, whatever it is, with all
I've got. I'm gonna focus on what I gotta do.
I'm not gonna try to write a hit song today.
I'm gonna try to write the best song that I
can write today. And that's all I can control. And

(23:14):
that's that mentality that's incredible, you know. I do the
endurance races, the Iron Man, the Ultra marathons and stuff
and it's the same exact thing, right, I always say,
you learned to be in the moment. Just be in
the moment. Don't worry about what's coming up, don't worry
about what happened. Just be in the moment. As you're saying,
I say this to my two boys or you know,
hockey players, and they also play video games. I go,
I don't care what you're doing. Just do it and
have fun doing it. Don't think about anything else. Just

(23:35):
do it as well as you can in that moment.
And that's what you're talking about. Yeah, exactly, awesome, awesome.
Let me give you congrats. By the way, I mean,
so number one hit. It's in my head forever Jays
since I heard for the first time, which is why
it was the number one hit. So two weeks right
at number one for Eyes on You. Yeah, I went
two weeks at number one, and that's my first number
one I've ever had, So it's been a huge honor
for that one. It's been a wild, wild, wild ride.

(23:57):
I've enjoyed it the whole way. And now we've got
a song called Lonely If you are that by all
the numbers is looking like it could be even bigger
than I was on you. So I'm excited to see
what this song does. And hopefully next time we talk
we'll have a second number one, we'll do it and
and fifty million times it was streamed right for eyes
on You. I mean the numbers are insane. Yeah. I
think now it's up to two million. Yeah, it's gotten

(24:19):
pretty intense since that. Holy cal It's been a huge
song for us, been a big blessing in my life. Um,
and it's changing a whole whole lot around the around
you know, my career. That's awesome. Well, you know, I
know you're busy, you're tired, you're traveling down and by
the way, you're going to be in New York on
the eleventh. I'm gonna try to make it down and
bring my wife and she hasn't seen your show yet,
so we gotta see it. So thanks so much for

(24:40):
taking the time. And again, everyone who's listening the yeah
butts and you're hearing someone who, like you know, has
no time. And it's about feeling good, right, Chase. I mean,
it's about do it first and foremost, and and everything
good happens after that. I always say, if you told
me I couldn't exercise, would be actually really angry. I
need that serotonin hit that you were talking about first,
and then everything it's just good stuff happens after that, right, Absolutely,

(25:03):
he created the good the GETTL continue to come to
your way. Awesome, have a great show. Is it's a
night or tomorrow? Yeah, we got one tonight in Tallahassan
in the Borrowing Games. We gotta Florida trip this week.
Go back to bed, and thanks so much for making
the time. And I hope to see in New York
under eleventh. Appreciate it. Man, all right, thanks so much.
Stakes great talking to you. All right, how cool was that?

(25:35):
To say I love my job would be a ridiculous understatement.
Chase Rice one of the coolest, nicest guys I know,
regardless of whether or not he is a celebrity musician,
just so genuine, so down to earth. Met him filming
that TV show Now just interviewed him. Holy cow, what

(25:56):
an awesome guy. And the takeaways from what he said
it was his if I coached him to tell you
what what I believe in, what I've heard, what the
science says. But that's the disruption in fitness. That's why
the show if I may say so myself, and I
will is so awesome because it is giving you the facts,
it is giving you the people who have done it

(26:18):
and the things they've done to be successful. Okay, And
he started the show by talking about how he does
it for his head first about weight loss. It's about
doing his job, and that was what was so cool,
and I remembered these things, it's my business. It's my job.
That's what I'm passionate about. So when we were filming
that episode of the TV show and he said he

(26:40):
was talking about how he owed it to his fans
to be as healthy and mentally there as possible so
he could give them a great show, and he meant that,
you know, I'd argue, there are people that say that,
Oh my gosh, you knew he minute and he said
it again, and I love that he actually had that
moment where he said he had that pivotal moment where

(27:02):
he just didn't feel good. He said, I want to
feel this way again. And that's what exercises about people.
That's what eating healthy is about too. But exercise gives
you that hit right away. And that's what's not talked
about enough. Is that fast food gives you that hit
right away, the serotonin he was talking about the same
type of effect. But then you have the crash. Then
you you take in excess calories. You feel good for

(27:22):
a short amount of time, and then there's that horrible
spiral down where insulin and blood sugar and all these
things are going on in your body that makes you
hungrier and hungry and hungrier. So you over eat and
you feel worse and you don't want to move as much.
That's the horrible cycle. So with exercise, it's giving you
the same thing. You're feeling good right away, and then,

(27:43):
as Chase said, how awesome is that instead of the
horrible cycle downward, it's a positive cycle upwards. He makes
better food choices throughout today. That's why it's connected. That's
why exercise and eating are so connected in a way
that is not talked about enough. Yes, I'll talk about

(28:06):
cowries in, cowries out, and cow he's burning all that
kind of stuff. And then we talked about the connection.
So the science is when we're talking about weight loss,
carries in carries out. But but how do we do that?
How do we start to make those behavioral changes? Were
you listen to Guy like Chase Rice, who was doing it.
He was on his bus going from Ohio down to
Florida in one day. Now I looked at his tour schedule.

(28:29):
He was off tonight. Well he's not. They're doing a
surprise show. And as I said in the interview, even
though we were there to give him some fitness equipment
for that TV show, he already had it and he
was using his cooler as a bench. How cool is that?
So we talk about use what you have. You don't
need a lot. If you have a step, a bench,
body weight exercises, bands, what's better, freeweight s, machines, doesn't matter.

(28:52):
Pick up heavy things, moderately heavy, get your heart rate up.
And the show is all about giving you infinite options
of all of these things. How do I get my
heart rate up? What strength workouts should I do? I'm
gonna give you so many different options because there is
no one way. But the science is, you gotta challenge
your muscles, the sciences. You gotta challenge your heart. And
you don't have to do that at a gym. You

(29:13):
can if you want. You'll have to do that for
an hour, you can if you want. Chase Rice is
an amazing shave. I didn't get a chance to. You know,
it might have been weird at the time, but even
though he says it's a whole pizza, even though he
was talking about drinking, you know, the alcohol, we had
a real fun night the night in Duluth, Minnesota. Such
a great group, this whole band, the whole entourage, as manager, everybody,

(29:37):
they work out, they give a great show, do a
great job, and then they enjoy themselves. It's not about deprivation. Now,
that's hard for a lot of people, and I got
it challenging, but it's the small changes over time, and
when you start your day with exercise, the whole day
is generally going to be better going forward. And I
love that he talked about Sarah toonin feel Good hormone.

(30:00):
Feel good you make better food choices, feel good you
move more. The less we do, the less we have
of those type of hormones. And it is a ridiculously
slippery slope. So that is why when you're like Tom
stopped talking about the short we're go no, no no, I
won't because it is so important. Chase is not going

(30:20):
to the gym for an hour every day, can't possibly
And the fact that he allocated. That's what blew me away,
is the fact that he had any exercise equipment on
his bus, and that's how he or that's when he
was coming up right, So he wasn't like, oh you
know this, I would argue, is a huge part of
his success is his approach, his business, like his head,

(30:44):
his exercise. Listen, he's thirty four. He didn't graduate college
that long ago. Let me look here. He graduated two eight.
Music industry ridiculously hard. But when, as he said, you
do the small things consistently. It's not about I love,
he said. It wasn't about how talented he was with
the football, with the career. It's about believing in yourself.

(31:09):
It's about following a plan, setting goals. Same parallels to fitness.
And this is why I love what I do because
the correlation, the connection between your exercise, health and wellness,
eating plan, and you're just overall success in life, whether
that be your career, your family, your relationships, it's all connected.

(31:29):
And you control what you can and when you control
what you put in your mouth, when you control how
much you move, when you control your attitude, and those
are all connected, really really good things happen. But you've
got to make the change, and you gotta believe in yourself,
and the changes actually forbid you from making huge changes.
I don't want those. It's always something that surprised clients

(31:50):
when I was a trainer working with people, and I
told him I didn't want them to make huge changes.
Small that's what works over time. So there you have it.
We deal with the yeah butts. Here ideal with all
the yeah butts. Yeah but don't have a lot of time.
Yeah but I travel a lot. Yeah but I don't
have a lot of space in my house. How about

(32:12):
tour bus hours upon hours traveling from city to city.
And you've got a guy like Chase Rice at thirty four,
that's usually let's let's be honest. If your traditional job
to like forty is when you're just being unhealthy, And
at thirty four, Chase Rice figured it out. You can
have a huge, long, successful career as a result, no question,

(32:34):
and that the head down, eyes up so excited to
have him explain it, but I needed he He almost
left out my favorite part where he was injured. He
was rehabbing an injury, not feeling good about himself, feeling
down looked up with he had his head down, looked
up in the mirror and thought, while I look angry,

(32:56):
I gotta make some changes. So so so cool. All right,
another amazing show. Thank you for listening again. You can

want the best for you. I think long and hard
about who I'm having on this show, and people reach
out and I'm only going to bring you the people

(33:39):
that I believe in one and that's one thing. The
products I use talk about people I put on this show.
I gotta believe in that percent because I want you
to get your results. That's what this show is about.
It's about you having the right information, the right motivation.

don't care what you want to do in life, you
