Speaker 1 (00:04):
This is Frosted Tips with Lance Bass and I Heart
Radio podcast. Hello, my little Peanuts, it's me your host,
Lance Bass. This is Frosted Tips with Me and my
lovely co host Turkey Turchin. It's a two for guys,
It's a two for that's right. Part two of the
Howie Durou Howie d Sweet D interview is coming up
right now. We had so much fun with him. Yeah,
(00:27):
first part of this what I know, So we have
to just extend this because the people want some sweet D.
How's the wife wife so much.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
I think you should ala to say hi to you
guys with your family.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
You have to say you're you guys. I love your families,
I think I I mean, I've talked to each of
your wives so much in my life and I just
feel like they are family, just lovely, lovely people. And
your extended family, to your parents, I mean everyone. Y'all
just come from really really good families.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah, well, thank you man. We are that is this
we have. We all are all have our moments with
each other, even the wives and the extended family members
and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Somehow another, we all piece it together and go for the.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Better cause of of making other people out there happy.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Exactly. I love it, y'all do it so well? All right,
So you and your wife Lee have been together for
sixteen years? Have two boys? First, give us some frosted
tips here? What tips do you have to keep your
romance alive after all these years together? Because I know
it's it's got to be hard traveling around the world. Uh,
how do you how do you keep that spark alive?
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Well, you know what, I believe it or not. Even
though it's hard, I can definitely attest that traveling sometimes
does make the heart grow fonder.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
You know, I think when I was home for two
years during COVID, I think my wife was itching for
me to get out of the house. I think she
that was the longest time we had been together.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
And like, I didn't sign up for this. I signed
up for you being on the road at least happy years.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
I mean, I got my own life going on here
and you're disrupting it.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Like a glorified pilot.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
Yeah right, But you know, I think it's just communication,
you know, with each other, even you know, if you need,
you know, outside of each other.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
No shame in the game having you know, somebody to
talk to, whether it's a therapist or you know, a
good family member that you really trust and you can
confide to, or or somebody your your church, whatever you
you know, whatever, whatever works to you.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
I think I think being able to you know, you know,
just be open and be able to you know, get
things out there, because you know, I think when you
when you try to bottle things up and are not
able to express it, I think it just goes with everybody,
even within the group, and some of that I've come
to realize that, you know, you just got to be
able to communicate. If you can't communicate, then it's just
a road for disaster.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Yeah, I mean that was the downfall for InSync. We
do not know how to communicate. Even to this day.
We're all still so close. I mean they were my brothers.
We talk almost every day, but when it comes to
like the group and and and work, we did not
know how to communicate. And I think that's why we're
not doing anything to this day. How do you guys
go through this? Because I know you probably go through
your ups and downs of like I love you, I
(03:12):
hate you, I love like, how do you how do
y'all still do it? Thirty years later.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
You know, I think we've come to realize we don't
know what else to do anymore.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Yeah, that's all we know, Like we're stuck.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
This is this is the second marriage. There's no prenup
on this one. We're all in this one together. No,
you know what, it's just it's you know, communication is
definitely and I can I can attest, but you know which.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
One which one of you, guys is the best communicator? Like,
because there's got to be one of you that, like, guys,
let's talk this out like group meeting, group meeting. Who
who was that guy?
Speaker 3 (03:48):
I mean I was believe or not nick named in
the early year Sweetening.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
I remember.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Used to that because you know, I would I remember
when sometimes I you know, Nick would be that he
was the and you know he's like twelve years old.
He's yeld Kevin, who's like twenty one years old. Sometimes,
you know, this is that age gap. I don't know
how it was with Justin and Chris or whatever, but
you know it was it was a big age gap.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
I mean Chris Chris was you know, Justin was more
mature than Chris, Like Chris as all right, Chris was
definitely the mentally youngest person in our group.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
I get to see that.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Yeah, so they got a long Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Yeah, it's funny you say that. I remember even in choir.
I'll never forget. We were in community college together, a
choir together. He was like a class clown. I'm like, dude,
you're gonna get in trouble. I'm like, you right next
to me and I'm like, don't talk to me. I'm like,
I don't get teachers. I was like teacher's pet. But
I will give him credit.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Like, I'll never forget.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
When we went we graduated, our choir teacher wanted us
not to walk up. He wanted us to stay within
the choir. And I'll never forget Chris not only had
his he had not he stood it for himself, but
had my back as well. I was like, no, Hallie
and I are going there getting our diplomas. We can
take a second away from the choir and that's all.
I was like, dude, I'm like, you're always solid in
(05:06):
my books. But anyways, getting back to our group with
a dynamic, you know, it's it's it's there's we definitely
have We are five different personalities, and you know when
we are all in the same page. Like Ryan says,
we can move mouths, but there's times where definitely we're
not on the same page. And you know, and now
(05:26):
you know, as life has gone on, you know, there's
different things that have been added to now that you know,
come into factor. Families now why you know, uh, you know,
lives outside of the group. So it's we definitely have
to you know, communicate. Sometimes it's not the best communication.
Sometimes it goes down to ends up being a vote,
and sometimes it's a democracy five it's three. You know,
(05:48):
it's never going to be a tie kind of thing.
So you know, sometimes you'll get your way and sometimes
you don't. But I feel like overall, you know, it
always balances out that you know, and everything is is
is Normally most of our biggest arguments are just because
of the passion that everybody has for wanting to make
the right thing, to do the best thing. So at
(06:10):
least it's in that positive direction. It's not going into
you know, I mean everywhere. So often it is a
little bit of selfishness here and there where I need
some time off, you know, for myself or whatever.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
You know, I need to just focus on myself. But
that's also a balance as well.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
I think, you know, within our group, it's like we
we got to a point of saying, you know what,
what is enough factor for each of us. What might
be enough for me where I want to work twenty
four to seven might not be the same amount for
some of the other guys who like, you know, dude,
I want some time off, I need some time with
my family. I want some time to work on some individuals.
So we just say, okay, let's all communicate. We give
(06:46):
each other the space, you know, whether it's solo projects,
you know, the weather, it's taking time off, or family,
it's all like, we just communicate because we know at
the end of the day, if we try to stop
any of us from doing that stuff, then it just
creates more resentment and then we then the then the.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Then the mothership doesn't keep moving forward.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Yeah, and a lot of people, you know, when you
have a business, like you know, backstory boys, your enterprise,
uh say, you know McDonald's is run by five partners.
You know, it's a lot easier because they don't have
to be with each other twenty four to seven and
on the road and ever, and so it's you know,
running a business together with your partners, I think is
so much harder in a group like this because you're
(07:25):
so exposed to them all the time.
Speaker 5 (07:26):
So it's like doing a business with family, Yeah, exactly,
and you're with them.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
I run a real estate development coming with my brother
and he is my best friend. But probably the most
tension out of our relationship over the years is sometimes
it's over business, and you know, it's it's it's you know,
we were lucky that we were blood thicker than water.
We always aren't able to work it out in camping,
but that is you know, it's you know, when you're
working with each other and you're, like I said, it's
(07:54):
almost like another marriage.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
Yeah, and you're you know, you're just trying to make
the best of it. You know, we're all learning.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Still.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
One thing that I've always respected about you was that
you saw a bigger picture, even at a younger age,
like with real estate. You started it really with real
estate very young, and I thought that was so smart
of you to start investing in things like that, which
kind of inspired me for what I'm doing in just
the last ten years. And I'm like, I'm going to
be like Howie, Like i want to start investing in
(08:25):
It's like, literally, bring a lot I do. I'm like, no,
I do. I'm like, I wish I was that smart,
you know, that young I was like, god, why did
I think of that? Like he was so smart to
like really think about the future because you don't know
where the group's going to go. But you were smart
to be like, you know, I need a little side
hustle just in case. And now you're doing incredibly well
(08:46):
as an entrepreneur. And I love it.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Thank you, brother, I appreciate it. I wish I could
take all the credit.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Honestly, it's that ten years between me and my next youngest,
that brother who had a little bit more knowledge and
thinking of the future, that was able to get to
me at the in those young years when we first
started making money, trying to make sure I wasn't one
of these VH one behind the music story ten years
from now wh hammer story, you know? And so I
was just I just I was just very blessed to
(09:11):
have him around me that was willing to say, hey, bro.
My family's always kind of dabbled a little bit into
real estate here and there. My dad was a police
officer in Orlando and whatever extra little money that he
would make, he would dabble, you know, put it into
like buying up a little place or you know, sinking
twenty thousand dollars and flipping it, you know, and just
always kind of like, you know, just building up a
little bit of a nest egg in the real estate world.
(09:32):
And my brother just kind of followed it in his
footsteps working on American airlines and just his little side
little money would put a little hustle into it. And
then when I got around, I given him a little
bit more money than what he was used to. We
were able to really take his ideas and take it
to the next level. And it was a blessing. I mean,
I remember at the time we hit the market, you know,
sometimes I was making just as much in real estate
(09:53):
as I wasn't backstreet, and it was just like it
was like it was just a blessing, you know. And
I would always you know, offer to the guys come
on and come on and all eat together at the table.
Everybody had their own thing, and everybody's you know, the
time was trying to figure out like what their lanes were.
Always to this day, I've always been like, come on,
whoever wants to come on board. Up.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
There's plenty of food on the table for all of us.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
It's great. I mean I find that real estate and
art I think my favorite two things to invest in.
I feel like that you can't. It's it's hard to
lose on real estate and art if you know what
you're doing.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
Yeah, exactly right.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Everybody needs a place to live, exactly exactly. It's a
location location, but everybody needs a place to live. And
art just goes up in value because like real estate does.
True you fixed two good things.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
Okay, So I have another question. It's a bit of
a pivot.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Is a pivot?
Speaker 5 (10:52):
Okay? So there has been a video into I think
you're gonna know where do you? Yes? Okay, Lance and
I are obsessed. We want to know your opinion. There
is a video of Nick I think we had been
in Brazil where he is, you know, doing this whole
dance like a choreographed choreograph, all Latin routine. He is
(11:16):
auditioning for Menudo two point eight and we're not on
stage yet. Have you not seen this?
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Okay? We need to know Howie? You have to see
so great? It's one of my faces?
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Is he making fun? Of me. Is that what's going on?
Speaker 5 (11:31):
He is his moment. He wanted to be you listen,
you're inspiring everybody. Apparently everybody wants to be How I
need to find this for having it pulled up?
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Okay, we're gonna share this before this interview.
Speaker 5 (11:42):
It's uh, I literally watched it fifty times and I'm
not even exactly but you know, nick has always been
full out right like he is the one on stage
that is.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Full out in the moment. Yeah, oh yeah, and he was.
He was in it, by the way, love Nicky. I mean,
come on, we love some He.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Told me to tell you, he says, tell him.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
I said, Hie, kisses just for you, and Howie, he says,
and Kevin gave a big heart.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Yeah, We're I mean, next coming on. And at some
point I'm spreading everyone out. You know, had a j
Now I've had you something like, you know, spread everyone else.
So the fandom started to wait a little bit and stop.
You know, they can't stop listening to our show. You
have to you have to keep listening, guys. Oh yeah,
it's cool. Okay, we're just gonna you're probably not gonna
hear it, but you're gonna see this all right. I
(12:31):
don't know, maybe you choreographed this. I have no idea.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
I'm scared.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Oh, whoa, he's Ricky Martin. Wow he is.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
That's some Dancing the Stars moves right there, Dance on
the Stars stuff right there?
Speaker 5 (12:49):
Is this on?
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Was this on tour with you guys? This is your stage?
Speaker 6 (12:52):
No?
Speaker 3 (12:54):
That was a side thing, I think, I think, Yeah,
he wouldn't.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Have been doing that on.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Like, you're not allowed to do that on our show. Well,
he was definitely bitten by the Brazilian bug on that one,
and we love it. I love a good viral video. Yeah,
there's probably so many of me doing crazy things.
Speaker 5 (13:13):
I know his new name on TikTok is Nicky.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Martin, Nicky Martin.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
That's awesome.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
All right, let's get to some fan questions. All right,
this is from Little Bow. Would you consider another Vegas
residency or another tour with new kids on the block?
Speaker 3 (13:30):
You know, I think everything we'd consider.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
I think at this point. You know, we used to
joke like, you know, we'll do a bar miss Bow,
you're his collar agents, We'll do you know, a drop
of a birthday party. You know, I think I.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Think now at this point I think, you know.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
It's it's I think anything's on the table, you know.
I think you know, we've you know, even talked about
with you guys, you know, maybe something down the line together.
You know, it's like whatever makes sense, you know. I
think now is the timing where the fans are especially
even more so open and embracing you, like how we
talked about in the earlier you know, I think we
would probably caused the major you know, fan craziness going
(14:08):
on if they saw us somehow and they're trying to
work together, they would have, like, you know, probably, But
I think now more than ever, the fans are just like,
we just want to see them. We want to see them.
You know, we've gotten we've gotten past those teen years
of having to pick one or the other, choosing or whatever.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
It's like, let's you know, let's let's embrace it, you know.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
And and I think I think we would you know,
we had a great experience with the new kids in
the block doing that tour together with them.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
We had a great experience in Vegas.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
Like I say, you know, it's it's I think and
now at this point it's just like it's it's almost
like kind of getting fun to create something different. That's
almost like a shocker that people are like that's cool,
you know, like like you know, like bringing artists up
on stage, you know, are doing collaborations with the artists
that you wouldn't even think that would be in the
same genre or style of interest, and just making people like, yeah,
(14:58):
that's dope. I would have never thought.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
That of all the artists right now, because I mean
you've been you've been watching for the last thirty years
and you know, rubbed elbows with every single artist at
award shows and radio stations. Who, in your opinion, is
doing it right right now? Who are you loving?
Speaker 2 (15:17):
You know?
Speaker 3 (15:18):
I mean I got to say a person who I've
met from their early years that is still the same guy.
And actually I I didn't know what to expect because
he was one of the first artists I ever met
that I was a fan of also as a little kid.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
Was Lionel Richie.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Oh yeah, and I'll.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Never forget when we met him. I think we were
in Germany.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
It was a UNISEF concert that he was doing and
Kevin and I wanted to get I think we had
we I don't think we were performing on it, but
it was like the night before our show and we
heard that he was performing, so we got the promoter
to get us to come back there and we had
a chance to say hi to him before the show.
He was like, you boys want to come up? It
was only me and Kevin. He said, you want to
come up and sing with me on Stageum, We're like,
a you kidding me? Were like Lino Richie like like,
(16:04):
you guys know anywhere songs? And I was like, uh, yeah,
we know a lot of your songs, and uh he's
like I think we went. Uh he's like Sunday morning.
And it was funny because uh he's like he's like,
let me get your numbers afterwards, and so he's like,
I got a song I want to pitch to you guys,
and uh so we changed the information. And also I
was in La. He's like when you're in La, He's like,
(16:25):
I like to let you play a song, and I'd
like to see if the guys would be interested in performing,
I mean recording. And so I went to see him
in Hollywood and remember it was like off the Peak
or something like that, like a studio that and I'll
never for He played me a bunch of songs, and
one of the songs like this song called Cinderella Girl.
I was like, you know what, I can see us
doing this as a collaboration with you. He's like, all right,
well watch you when I get in the studio, let's
(16:46):
do backgrounds on this. And I was like okay, and
I'm like, so he was recording me backgrounds and I
was like, of course, like whatever you say, Sarah, I'm like,
thank you, I'll do that a one hundred more takes whatever,
and I'll never forget he got in there, let's start
slain it. And there was one time where he went
a little flat and I was like, how can I say.
I'm like, yeah, let's just let's do more. Looks good,
(17:09):
you know. I'm like, there's no way into the line
of I'm like, this is just no way. I'm like,
only twenty three years old, this is like my idol.
But I've kept in touch with him ever since then
over the years, you know, called each other on Christmas,
talk to his son and uh like I say him,
you know, do an American idol right now, and just
crushing it like he truly has you know, one examples
(17:31):
up there with like you know obviously like the Rolling
Stones and Paul McCartney. But people who have sustained a career,
you know, a truly like what I call career, ye,
you know, to be able to sustain that long and
still be relevant and current and stuff like that. I
think he's just done a great job. I mean modern people.
I would say I'm a huge fan of Bruno Mars can't.
I'm just I'm amazing fan of him. And also cold Play.
(17:55):
Cold Play to me is just like up on the
top of the list.
Speaker 5 (17:58):
There, no, those are really good. Yeah, Jill six one four,
She asked. AJ recently said somewhere not all his bandmates
wear underwear. Can you confirm this? And who is it? Jill?
Jill is a dirty little girl.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
I am wearing underwear for sure.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Under you could be wearing underwear. Let me guess. I
bet it's uh.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
I was gonna say, watch you guys guess.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Yeah, okay, I will confirm you. I mean, I feel
like AJ wouldn't wear underwear, and he's the one that
was saying this.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
He needs to wear underweard.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
What is your favorite BSB tour? By my name is
not a my.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Favorite BSB tour? I would probably have to say black
and Blue. Yeah, black and Blue, even though it was
we had just came off of our biggest tour at
the time, of the Money and Tour, which you know,
I didn't think it could get bigger than that with
all the you know, flying in the air and the
surfboards and flipping all around in the round stuff of that.
(18:58):
But to me, Black and Blue was just the tour
that I feel like I grew the most on. I
really started finding who I was. I met my wife
on that tour. She used to work with us. She
was our webmaster and that's how we got to know
each other, and so she was on the road with us.
And at the time, like I was saying, most of
the guys were just staying in their rooms, you know,
(19:20):
watching pay.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Per view, McDonald's whatever, room service.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
And I was like, in Rio, I'm going, you know,
hang guiding. I want to was on the Copa Coupana
beach hang glunding, you know, I want to go to
pyramids in Mexico.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
I'm like, I'm all over, I'm going scuba diving whatever.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
I'm like. So this VIP website that we created at
the time with our management, which I didn't even know
what the internet was at that time. But we charged
like thirty five dollars for fans to see us do
a little extra exclusive material us outside of just the
shows every day. It was modern day social media, I
think now looking back on it, but that tour, I
(19:56):
just I you know, I got to meet my lifelong partner,
got to travel around the world with her and with
the guys, and you know, we just had so much fun.
I think we just we all grew so much on
that tour and it was probably like one of our
biggest and that was the probably the tour that we had,
you know, out of all the tours, the most like
stadiums and like South America coming to the first time,
(20:19):
and and like I say, you would have thought like
the Beatles or Michael Jackson was I didn't even understand,
couldn't fathom or understand how many people would want to
see us. Just like I said, yeah, I'm sure you
guys had mak those experiences as well, but it's it
was just a really, really just cool time in my life.
I think I was at that age where I was
like twenty six, twenty seven years old, I was enjoying
(20:42):
who I was. I was embracing the great opportunities that
were coming to me, you know, and then just enjoying
the night light and just whooping it up. I was
I was a kid in a candy store on that tour,
and I was just I was embracing it all, taking
it all in.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Do you remember that moment that you had with your
future wife that you're like, oh, I'm into her?
Speaker 2 (21:02):
You know? It was uh.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
I think we were going from I think it was
one of the awards shows and we had to go
back across the country and a three week somehow. It
might have been like the American Music Awards or something
like that, but we had to fly back across the country.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
I think we were on tour and I think we
got like the Phoenix Suns playing somehow another to take
us across the country. And I sat next to her
and I think we were eating like potato chips, and
then I think the food came around and Alston I
was like, you guys got any hot sauce? And the
(21:39):
as in the.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
Stewards, I don't know, like woywop hot sauce in the airplane.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
It's not like you know, but it was like, you know,
a little bit cater and she said yeah, and Alston
I was like, he's like, oh, you like hot sauce, Like, yeah,
I like hot sauce. He's like, I like hot sauce
too cool. I like hot sauce spicy. And so I
was like, this chick's cool. I can be that with her.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
And they yeah, the spicy got hot sauce in my
bag's wag exactly. Yeah, all right, let's get to Tiger
Beat Magazine two thousand and one. I have a questionnaire here,
and I want to see if your answers match today.
But think back how we d two thousand and one,
(22:23):
how you would have answered this. What do you hope
to accomplish with your career, both as a solo artist
and as a group In two thousand and one? What
did you say?
Speaker 2 (22:31):
Grammy?
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Maybe very good? Yes? WHOA yeah, yeah, aren't we all?
I think it would be nice to take a Grammy home.
We haven't received one yet. Yeah, let's talk about the
Grammys a little bit, because y'all went through the same thing.
Speaker 6 (22:46):
Now.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
Grammys giveaway you know, Grammys to young people. Right back
in our day, they just would not they would use
us to put form on this show and to get ratings,
but for the love of God, they would never give
us one. I think we had eight nominations. Could you
give us just one little Grammy so I could say
Grammy winning the.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Old Timers Awards.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Oh yeah, well you're gonna you're gonna be like, you're
gonna be like what Steely Dan was to us. So
the year that we had like four nominations, it was
no strings attached. Of course we're gonna get something, right,
the biggest selling out thing. Yeah, oh yeah, Steely Dan
took every single award. And I didn't even know who
Steely Dan was at the time. But now that I'm
in this age, I'm like, we could be that Steely
(23:28):
Dan if we ever came out like, we would be
the Steely Dan.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
Ste you just got to come back just to get
a Grammy chance?
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Give little Exactly did you do you do love performing
an award shows or did y'all find that I don't know,
just he nerve wrecking, Yeah, yeah, nerve wrecking, right, Yeah, everything,
you're gonna.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
What hits under my arm? Probably like.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
Going on because the most epic shows that you do,
you know, I would be at award shows and then
you always have to one up them every single time,
So how it's impossible to do that? So you're always
gonna be so judged by your last performance.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Yep. And it's like a one tape jake. You don't
get You can't go back there and be like, oh,
can we record that one part?
Speaker 1 (24:15):
You know?
Speaker 5 (24:16):
All right? We have another question back in back in
two thousand one Tiger Beat magazine, when you were in
high school, who would you have done anything to see
in concert or to meet?
Speaker 2 (24:27):
But I was in high school. Actually I had a
chance to go to it. You saw Boys to Men
and like I say, back in ninety one, like the
year I was graduating, they were like on their game.
It was that Motown Philly Juli o'harmony. They were just
like the shisiness. And I remember we had a chance
(24:48):
to go to the concert. Wasn't like I said, it
was like two years later.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
Oh no, wait, did I go?
Speaker 2 (24:53):
Actually? I think I did go somehow. I was probably
one of the first concerts that my mom let me
go to with like another friend. I was like nineteen
years old. I think my national should have let me go.
You don't know where the church, but but yeah, so yeah,
(25:13):
that was Boys to men like.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
I say now, I'm sure just like you. They're some
of the greatest guys.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
To know that we were just idols of ours back
in the days. They're cool people.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
That was our biggest influence New Edition Boys to men. Yeah,
that's yeah, that's who made it absolutely Yeah. And then
their last question from Taker Tiger B what inspired you
to become who you are now?
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Very big inspired me. I wonder if I would have
given credit to my sister Pollyanna at the time. I
don't know if I would have done that, or if
I would have probably said, you know, like Michael Jackson,
our new kids or you know, something like that.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
Well, you always you've always been about the fans, and
you were into the one. We had a lot of
ups and down and to see people supporting us coming
to our concerts really inspires us. The fans do a
lot for us, and that's why we do all the concepts.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
That I was gonna say that next that was that
was my my I just forgot accidentally.
Speaker 6 (26:14):
All Right.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
The last thing we're gonna do is we have a
May nineteen ninety nine rapid fire question that you did.
We're going to play the audio and see what you
would answer today, who's the biggest flirt in the band.
Who's the biggest flirt in the page? AJJ Okay, let's
see what he said.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
AJ.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
All right, Next question.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
Everyone's got a favorite Backstreet Boy? Who's your favorite Backstreet Boy?
What year was this?
Speaker 1 (26:40):
This nine? Your favorite Backstreet ninety nine ninety nine?
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Who is that? It was? Probably it was either Nick
or Kevin, depend up on what side of the bed
I woke up on that day. It was probably Nick.
Speaker 7 (26:57):
Very harsh for me to pick, you know, my favorite,
but always say I'm closest with Ad just because I've
known him the.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
Longest age.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
A double A J.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Wow, you know, I was.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Actually thinking of that one because A J. We've known
each other for so long, and you know, I think
in the early years, I was always like there for
Nick because he was like the youngest one. And I
was like, when you talked about earlier about being a peacemaker,
sometimes him and kempt, you know, some of the other
guys that would like, you know, disagree, and I'd be like.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
Come on, guys, don't pick on them, you know one,
you know, like, you know, let's all talk this out.
You know, I see your side Kevin and I see
your side.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
Nick, you know, like, let's just figure what's the common
ground here?
Speaker 1 (27:38):
See, And that's why you were my favorite backstreet boy.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
You're too nice.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
I won't tell a J that.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
And we have one last what you said, who who
never has any money? Oh? Who never has any money?
Speaker 5 (27:56):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (27:59):
Man, I was gonna have to say it's probably either
Nick or a J. I don't want to say. Well, AJ.
Speaker 7 (28:08):
Every once in a while sometimes we'll go to a
club and he'll purposely just not bring any money or
a credit card or anything.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
And also that they will.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Come up at the very end.
Speaker 7 (28:16):
I'll be like, Okay, work something out here, and he's like,
I didn't remember money times.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
I'm catching on now.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
AJ is the dining dasher type.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
I see, yes, you see there?
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Yeah, I mean I love that all right, before we
let you go, this is a pop culture show. So
tell us what we're binging on television right now? What
(28:50):
do we need to see?
Speaker 3 (28:51):
So I've been watching uh Succession.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Yeah so good, so good, And actually believe that me
and my wife were watching.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
I love it. It's uh this Daisy Jones and the.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
Sixth The book was incredible.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Yeah, it was a book that Originally I didn't know that. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
was the granddaughter of Elvis Presley did a great job
on It almost reminds me of like a mini series
of what Almost Famous would have been, Like yeah, if
you had broken it up into like different like little
you know series, and to a point as well, like
(29:29):
I got into it, you could see like the whole
thing with the band and the camaraderie, but also the
fliction here and there and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
I just I definitely recommend you watching it.
Speaker 5 (29:38):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
The other one that I'm hearing so much this week,
which I have to binge after succession. I like to
bench things in succession. I think we're only in episode four,
so I got to wait till after that. But uh,
meat is it called meat on Netflix?
Speaker 5 (29:50):
Beef? Beef?
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (29:52):
What is that about? I don't know. I know it's
a it's a wild ride.
Speaker 5 (29:56):
It like starts off with road raids between two people.
A thriller.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Yeah, okay, so it's not like a vegan.
Speaker 5 (30:04):
No, No, it's about like beef between two people starts off.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
Yeah, but everyone's just dying all right. Now, What's what
song is stuck in your head? Right now? What artist
should we be listening to? You know what?
Speaker 3 (30:18):
I keep on finding myself singing Harry Styles.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
Yeah, I find myself singing that around. I'm like, I
get it, I get you like the song enough?
Speaker 1 (30:33):
All right, and what movie do we need to watch?
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Oh? Well, I'm going to take my kids to see
Mario Super Mario Brothers.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
Yes, yeah, Justin just took his kid to see Mario
last weekend and they said they loved it. I mean,
they absolutely loved it. And they went to Universal Studios,
went to the new Mario Land, which looks really freaking cool.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Really wow.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
I know, I can't wait for our kids to be
the age where you can go to places like that
and they actually enjoy it and remember it, because I
have like, I'm not going to bring my kids to
Disney unless they know who Mickey Mouse is. That that's
my rule. I'm like, you can say Mickey Mouse to
me and like know who that is, then we can go.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
Otherwise, no chance.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Yeah I did stay at home.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
Yeah, don't waste the money. The other vip back tour.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
Well, how it has been a pleasure getting to know
you even better. You have always been just the nicest guy,
and uh, I'm just so happy for all of your
success and your continued success. You guys are killing it
right now. Uh, And I'm glad that we are at
an age where we can all get together and get
along and bring our fandoms together. But how can everyone
(31:48):
stay in touch with you?
Speaker 3 (31:50):
So definitely fans when I know what I'm doing, it
always take either of my socials. How we underscore Dora
on Instagram or howid dot net is on my place
when they can go Facebook as well, Howie d But yeah,
I mean I've got a lot of things and the works,
I guess say, work on some TV shows and some
kids stuff, and.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
So you're getting to produce television, right.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
So yeah, I'm trying to follow in your steps on
that one, buddy.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
It's fun. It's fun.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
Yeah, yeah, and probably you know, trying to maybe even
talks about doing, you know, acting in some of the
stuff myself, and maybe even talking about doing a little
bit of Broadway coming up.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
So I love that have you done Broadway yet? Or
this will be your debut?
Speaker 2 (32:33):
So I've got some things in the earlierly stages of
talks right now, so it would be my debut.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
It's always been on my bucket list, You have a Broadway.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
I mean, yeah, every entertainment. Oh yeah, I mean it's
I did Hairspray, which was just so much fun. But
I think every entertainer, because you know, we all started
on the stage right as a kid, like we started
in plays and musicals. But to go back to that,
it just it brings it back to the core of
why you're doing this. That audience, in that live performance,
(33:03):
it is just it's an incredible experience and you will
have a blast. I don't know if you've ever lived
in New York, but New York is just an incredible
place to be, especially when you have a job like that. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
Yeah, the energy there is it's an unbelievable city. So yeah, yeah,
that's something I hopefully knock off the bucket.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
Listener. Well, we're excited to see what you're doing. We'll
keep it up in touch with you. We'll have you
back on and uh yeah, it's been great. And tell
all the boys we said hello, and tell the family
we said hello.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
Well, give kisses and a little one.
Speaker 1 (33:35):
All right, we will do enjoy your day off, all.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
Right, you guys, see take care.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
O. What a sweet dude when we call him sweet deep.
Speaker 5 (33:50):
And I was like, your little petty thought it was
like a sexual thing.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Sweet sweet what we called him back in the day. Don't.
I don't think of how we in that way. I
don't think of any of those. I don't think of
any boy band member in a sexual way. Ever. I
always got asked that, especially when I came out. I
was like, oh, did you have a crush on one
of the guys. I'm like no, It's like saying you
had a crush on your brother or your cousin. Like no,
it just doesn't happen.
Speaker 5 (34:11):
I mean everybody here and there has like a hot cousin.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
Oh stop what.
Speaker 5 (34:16):
I have a few friends that were like, yeah, I
have a hot cousin.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
But you know the no, no, not not gonna happen.
So yeah, so no, I'll I'll answer a question now,
not any boy band member was I ever attracted to
in that way?
Speaker 5 (34:28):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (34:28):
I know it's just so you get to know them
too well, you know. It was like, yeah, okay, were
you attracted to any boy band members besides me? Of course?
Speaker 5 (34:36):
Yeah? Well I wasn't like friends with them, so yeah,
I had lots of crush.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
Like who was your crush? Go back to your boys,
which one Kevin?
Speaker 5 (34:45):
No. When I was a little little kid, it was Nick.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
Okay, Nick? Okay, So you like the blonde I did.
Speaker 5 (34:49):
That's good because that was like my Zach Morris phase.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Yeah. Yeah, see I was like Lopez and you were more.
Speaker 5 (34:55):
Yeah, but then it changed, is like I mean, you know,
but then you know ninety degrees. I thought Nicholas was
because of the block. I thought Jordan Knight was hot.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
Okay, you picked some good ones and I thought, oh yeah,
please when you look at my pictures of maybe I can.
Speaker 5 (35:12):
Jaz Yeah, yeah, I can name them from every boy band.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Okay. What about girl bands?
Speaker 5 (35:18):
Did you?
Speaker 1 (35:18):
Were you ever attracted to girl band girls?
Speaker 5 (35:20):
I mean I was obsessed with girl band but I
wanted to know. I wanted to beat them.
Speaker 6 (35:24):
Yeah yeah, okay, Spils Spice Girls was your group? Oh
my god, Spice Girls was I have no words, y'all.
It was my first concert ever and I was obsessed beyond.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Well once you go into their last concert and they
canceled or something.
Speaker 5 (35:39):
No, no, I uh know. Well the first concert I
went to, Jerry wasn't there like Jerry the group Like
two months before the concert, I was pissed.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
And I hear these rumors all the time. Are they
coming back on?
Speaker 5 (35:53):
Well, apparently they were supposed to.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
I've heard this every two years. I feel like, oh,
Spice Girls are back together with Victoria.
Speaker 5 (35:59):
Well they did do a big one, you know, but
in the UK.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
Oh that's right, they did the O two Arena.
Speaker 5 (36:03):
Yeah, they did like thirteen shows and made.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Like with all five of them. I'm not sure like
Victoria was there.
Speaker 5 (36:09):
I don't know if she was.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (36:11):
Sometimes, and they made a fortune from like twelve thirteen shows,
like crazy, it was like record breaking numbers.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
For Yeah, i'd go see it. Come to America girls, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Come.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
Oh and while we're at it, let's get Destiny's Child
to do a little rent.
