This week, Azzi and Ashanti are joined by the one and only Rhyne Howard, and the conversation goes everywhere in the best way. Rhyne talks about wrapping up her "W" season with the Atlanta Dream, what she learned from a year that didn’t go the way she wanted, and why leaning on her teammates made all the difference.

They get into three-on-three life, the pressure of representing Team USA in Paris, playing outdoors in the heat, and the moment she found out she officially made the Olympic roster. Then things take a turn into peak Rhyne energy — including her daily golf habit, her massive Lego collection (with functioning grand piano included), and her artistic side, from spray-painted animal canvases to custom sneakers and half-finished overalls.

The crew also dives into dream teammates, SpongeBob shoe collabs, designing jerseys, and a chaotic round of snack rankings that somehow leads to a full cottage-cheese debate.

Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hi, everyone, Welcome back to another episode of fut Around
and find Out. I'm here with my co host The Shanty.
What's up, girl?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Hey, how you doing.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
I feel like every time we start, I'm like, hey,
I'm good, girl. No, I am, I'm really good. I'm
excited your season is rolling. I get to finally see
you know, all the hard work that you guys have
been putting in out there on the court. I got
to go to a couple of your games. So I'm
doing great. I gotta figure out when way for the

(00:34):
next one.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
How about you?

Speaker 1 (00:36):
I'm also doing great. I obviously have not fully recovered.
My voice is not recovered. I feel great, but my
voice has been gone for like ten days now. It's
kind of insane, and this is the best that sounded
in those ten days. But yeah, I'm excited. This season's
ramping up. This is a big week for us. So
I feel like I always just say I'm excited, but
I really am.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
I'm so excited. It's such a fun time.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah, I mean all the bonding, all the hard work,
the practice. Now you get to play against you know,
not your teammates or the practice players, like exactly. Now
you guys get to come together and whoop on other teams.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
So, of course, and I'm twenty three.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Now, so that's fun toody each hour. Yes, happy birthday again,
well by this, thank you again? Your birthday did pass
your twenty three? How are you feeling so wise in
your Jordan year? What advice do you give to those

(01:34):
twenty two and youngers?

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Man, I remember those days like it was yesterday, like
it was last week, like it was a week ago.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Literally, what did you do? What did you do for
your birthday? On my birthday? What did I do?

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:51):
It was?

Speaker 1 (01:52):
It was so exciting. I had a doctor's appointment, I
had a film session. I had practice. Oh no, I
had another session, and then we had practice and you know,
I got a good lift in, got some recovery, and
then I came to the cottage, which I don't know
if I've said yet, but the cottage is what I
called my grandparents' house. They have a house in Connecticut,
right off campus. So I came to my grandparents' house.

(02:12):
My parents were here. They brought Stewie up, my little dog,
and they made me a birthday feast. I said, I
don't know what I want. Make me something healthy, and delicious.
It was probably one of the best dinners I've had.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Oh, that's that's so sweet. That's solid.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Wasn't a good meal and you were treating your body
as you recovering.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
I mean, it sounds like a solid birthday.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
And then I went home and my teammates sung to
me and got me one of my favorite like clean
our ice cream brands, So that was really sweet.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
That's good.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
I'm glad you celebrated because I know you, Miss Humble,
don't want to make it about me, but it was
your day and you deserve to feel loved and special
on that day.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
So I'm glad.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Yeah, it was game day minus once. We didn't get
too crazy, but it was still special. Felt the love.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
And then to finish off your birthday even though it
was the next day, you won. So I mean you
won the day before one next day. Yeah, you win
it exactly. So we have a special guest coming on today.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Yes, I'm super excited joining us today. We have the
one and only Ryan Howard. Today we have a super
special guest, Ryan Howard.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Ryan, how are you.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
I'm doing so good? How are you guys?

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Excited to have you on the pod?

Speaker 5 (03:32):
Excited for me on the pod.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
So what have you been up to an off season?
What's happen like?

Speaker 4 (03:36):
Pretty much just golfing, golfing and working out. I've been
golfing almost like every day since the season ended.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
It's a good combo. Where where are you? Where are you?

Speaker 5 (03:46):
I'm in Atlanta right now? Or do you mean like
the building?

Speaker 2 (03:49):
No?

Speaker 3 (03:49):
No, no, let's be saying listening. How did you get
into golfing?

Speaker 4 (03:55):
It was just something that me and Lee started just
to like past time. We've been doing it for about
three years now, So we started after her first year's
here off season and we've been doing ever since.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
So when you say you've been golfing, it's not like
you're going to a what's a golf course? So what's
called golf range or like a top golf type place.

Speaker 5 (04:17):
Now you go to the courses.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Okay, wow, that's like real real stuff right there.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Okay, even Tiger was right now, who's better at golfing?

Speaker 3 (04:28):
You?

Speaker 5 (04:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:29):
I mean I know you're gonna say that's all you
should say. She's not here to defend herself.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
She would say it's it's true.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
So you just ended your w NBA season with the
Dream Atlanta dream How are you feeling about that wrap up?

Speaker 5 (04:44):
I mean, obviously nobody wants to stay in short of
you know, the in Goo.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
I do feel like we kind of we we under
achieved our own ourselves. Like I feel like we definitely
should have made it present what we did. But you know,
you can't be too greedy with you know, every that
you get, like you don't get it all in one year.
And you know, I'm super excited for what's to come. Like,
I think that we have a good chance to bring
majority of our team back, and you know, just on

(05:10):
this you know, we had a new coach, we had
a new team, and you know, I think we did
a lot more than what was even expected. You know,
obviously we did go out in the first round, but
even to you know, have a home game for me
and you know, being tied for a second at the
end of the regular season, I think that's a huge
accomplishment itself.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Those dream games look lit.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Listen, I have friends go I didn't get the opportunity
to pop out, but I definitely want to make it
for next year.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
I think you guys are so exciting to watch.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Next year is New Year, New slate, and you guys
have another opportunity to you know, achieve the goal this time,
and I'm excited.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
It's gonna be competitive and good.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
Yeah, I agree, but you definitely have to get out,
but you have to hurt because you know, we got
a small gym, so it'd be selling out fast that
it gets packed in there like standing room only.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Oh well, I'm jacking that. I know you now and
be like me, I know, miss Ryan, let me in
you you really would do that too, I would, I
would Ryan. Is there anything you learned from this past
season with the dream?

Speaker 4 (06:16):
I think just being able to lean on you know,
who you have helping you. I know, like in past
years the pressure is often most of the times all
on me, and so being able to have you know,
eleven other players with you that you can trust and
that you can you know that will take it like
you don't have to ask, Like they'll recognize that you
have a lot of pressure and they'll take that for

(06:36):
you and you know, weather the storm and help you
get through it. And I think for me personally, I
think that really helped this year because I did have
a down year and so not having all of that
extra pressure on top of like what I was battling myself.
I think it definitely helped with you know, our success
and you know, having that trust and having the confidence
and the rest.

Speaker 5 (06:53):
Of my teammates.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
That's amazing, that's important. Why do you call it a
down year?

Speaker 4 (06:58):
I mean, I personally think that was my worst year
in the league because I just wasn't consistent enough to
my standards and I wasn't performing the way that I
felt I should have. You know, obviously, as a leader
of the team, like it is my team, I'm going
to take most of the you know, blame, I'm going
to take all that on my own end. So I

(07:18):
feel like if I would have had a better year,
we probably would have gone further. To be quite.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Honest, Well listen, it takes more than one.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
But I understand having a standard for yourself and you know,
feeling like you didn't live up to it.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
But listen, girl, we know about you.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
Twenty twenty two Rookie of the Year, three time All Star,
WNBA All Defensive Team. You've been a bucket for as
long as you've been playing the game. So I'm excited
if you feel like this was a down year. I
can't even imagine what next year is going to be like, so.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Wait to touch on her being a bucket since we
can remember, do you remember it was us twenty nineteen?
You would say about so trying for the first time,
and I asked for a picture because I knew who
you were, and there's a picture. Was it was after
I tore my a cl So I was there just
watching tryouts?

Speaker 2 (08:09):
What were you there for? What were you trying?

Speaker 5 (08:12):
Not for twenty nineteen? Was that was just you? Nineteen's Thailand?
I want to.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Say, Okay, so if I was healthy, I could have
played with you. I saved the picture too. That's crazy
because not because you came up.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
I mean, I say, I know you are too, but
you asked me for a picture, And I was like
what because I'm like, you know, I'm just I'm.

Speaker 5 (08:37):
Now here, regular old person, please right?

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Regular all over the world? Regular, ran and regular don't
go together.

Speaker 5 (08:46):
But okay, right, the same letters. So I don't understand
that they.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Just don't just trust it. So, Ryan, what was your
welcome to the League moment?

Speaker 5 (08:57):
I think it was de Erica busting my lip. It
was it was.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
She was feeling Vegas and we were playing them at home.
It wasn't intentional, Like we're both going for a rebound
and like she just came down and just busted it.
So they go down on like my team goes down offense.
You know, I'm just standing down here on there and
I need the basket hould My lip is literally dripping,
breaths are gone, so I'm like, hello, like I can't play.

(09:27):
They come back down. But then also like I welcomed
her to me, I came back down on the offense
and I only got one hand, so she tries to
like come down for the layup and I block it,
and then I block it and I get the ball,
and my bad at the time was Erica Wheeler, and
she's like pointing at me, pointing at the red like, hey,

(09:48):
we got to stop it.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
But yeah I had to get stitches that game, and
my after that.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
You got stitches like my game back then. Yeah, wow,
I like the welcome to me. Come on, we're.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
So speaking of Deerka. Isn't she your teammate now with Unrivaled?

Speaker 4 (10:11):
Yeah, yeah, like we're like super close now we laugh
about it still, but even before rival like we had
I had her in the Olympics too, and just taken
that to Unrivaled. It helps because we already have that
experience of three on three. But you know when people
say Mama d like that's not just a nickname, like
that is really like what she embodies like. She's definitely

(10:33):
the mother of any team or anything that she's a
part of. And you know, being able to have her
like as my supporting cast and me as her supporting cast,
I think we do a really good job because we
both know each other.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Once m I'm special.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
Speaking of Unrivaled, how was the first season last year?

Speaker 5 (10:51):
I'm excited for this year.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
I'm excited for like all the new players, all the
new teams, and.

Speaker 5 (10:57):
You know what we can do.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
I think Vinyl can off what we did last year
because we came up just attached short and so I think,
you know we can use that Spoon's gonna lead us right,
and you know we'll be back in that same position
with a different outcome.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
I'm excited to watch. Yeah, this year is very different.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
There's a lot of changes, so different teams, new venue,
venue outside of Miami.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
You're going to I think it's Philly.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Yeah in January, Like, how are you feeling about all
these And there's a player development pool. I'm really happy
to see that because I felt like last year it
was new teams every every couple of weeks.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
Yeah, everybody's getting hurt, and it's just yeah, here, come on,
we need you, we need you. But I'm excited for
like all the changes like that I've heard about, you know,
I'm excited for the new teams, just bringing in like
new competition. You don't want to like we go against
each other every day in the summer, like all through
out the summer, and so being able to change it

(11:56):
up and change it you're playing with, and change the
dynamic of you know, everybody's geting and everybody seem I
think it'll be excited to see like how well people
work in such a short amount of time. And then
as far as like the Philly Games, I won't be
participating in it, but I am excited for it to
you know, see it grow and you know, see it
give a chance for other people to see instead of

(12:17):
like having to travel all the time.

Speaker 5 (12:19):
Miami is pretty far.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
I wish that we could go to Miami and watch
the game. You have to you, I might have to
be there for both of us. I'll FaceTime you in perfect.

Speaker 5 (12:33):
I'll be looking for you.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
All right, Ryan, pick your dream three on three teammates.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
Dream there on three teammates, like including myself, So I
have to pick three more.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
I mean, is this Olympic or is this like your dream?
Like whatever you want in this whole world. Mend solid
my teammates.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
I'm rocking with it.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
I got everybody can shoot threes two that bang in
the coast. You know, if I had to go down there,
I could hold my own and then you know I
facilitate these shoots.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
Okay, So your fun fact on the Unrival site is
that you have the same number of Lego sets as
points in season one of The Rival.

Speaker 5 (13:21):
Yeah, that's probably about right.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
Wait, that's crazy. I'm gonna say, girl, how many Lego
sets you got?

Speaker 4 (13:29):
I have so many Lego says and I have like
I have this big old dresser of all the ones
that need to be built, and then I have some
that are already displayed, Like I just have Lego says everyhere,
and then they keep making new ones, so I keep
buying new ones.

Speaker 5 (13:42):
I have the old ones.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
It's Lego fault leg But yes, I do have a
says like so many.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Just like how do you have space for all of them,
what do you do with all of them?

Speaker 4 (13:54):
That's why they're not built yet. I'm sorry. I'm still
working on the space for the ones that I bilt.
They're on a you know, a dresser like with different
shelves and stuff.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
I'm crying.

Speaker 4 (14:06):
It's gonna be your home decor. Yeah, Like I have
the little succulents. God, yeah, I put those in the
living room like by the TV. So those are my
plant before.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
That's actually got a bad idea. I don't necessarily have
a green thumb, so if I can get like.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
The roses or the roses are in the kitchen, that's cute.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
What does building legos do for you mentally? Like is
that you're calming, like when you can just relax and
chill or is it competitive to you?

Speaker 4 (14:40):
It's calming, But like sometimes like when you get so
funny like I missed the piece, like or you have
something on wrong, then it's like it tests you because
now you have to take the whole thing apart just
for that one piece. But it is fun, you know,
and you know the people love to see. I have
made a couple of tiktoks doing it. The people love
to see it and just saying like things that I'm

(15:02):
interested in. But it is fun, it is relaxing, and
you know a little bit of a SMR two when.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
They you know, don't get it started.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
So when you buy the Legos, do you only buy
them as sets and you build them or do you
like sometimes freestyle and I have by sens okay, but
I did like.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
I did see somewhere where if you do have like
all the leftover pieces, you can take a picture and
send them into something and it'll tell you what.

Speaker 5 (15:31):
You can make.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Oh that's a cool concept.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
So like if you did have a bunch of random pieces,
it'll give you options of what you can build from
those pieces.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
That's cool.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
What's the most complicated or time consuming piece that you've done?

Speaker 5 (15:45):
Probably grand Piano? Oh?

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Can I actually like play it at all?

Speaker 5 (15:49):
It plays with the app and like music plays and like.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
Yo twenty twenty five, what can you set a picture
of your Lego shelf after this place?

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Yeah? Okay, cool, I need to see this grab pa.

Speaker 5 (16:07):
And then like the keys moving stuff.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
You need a Lego deal.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Hello Legos, if you are listening, we have a pro
in the in the chat.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
So what's your next set? Like, what are you on
the hunt for now?

Speaker 4 (16:23):
I don't know, like I have. I just picked up
the game Boy. That probably won't take long because it's
it's kind of small. The most recent one I did
was Bumblebee from Transformers. Wow, and he actually transforms, like
right now I have him in the car, but I
can't open him.

Speaker 5 (16:38):
Up to where he's a robot. That's cool, But as like.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
Mario, Mario Kart, Dowser, the Twilight House, a bunch of
little cars.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
Ware, right, I need all of it.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Yeah, I need all I need to see these.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
So you're also known for your artistic abilities. Have you
always been super artsy?

Speaker 4 (17:10):
Yeah, Like when I was younger, probably elementary school was
probably the like oldest memory I have I had to
make like well I didn't have to, but I chose
to make the Statute of Livy out of paper like
org got me or one of my school projects.

Speaker 5 (17:27):
And you know, I always liked work on me.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
But then I also like to draw and paint and stuff,
just because like it's another way to get between the lines.
Like basketball, you have the lines that you're inside, you know,
doing your own thing, but it's another way for me
to create in another set of minds and you know,
be in my own space and you know, nobody's telling
me what to do.

Speaker 5 (17:49):
Nobody's you know, bothering me.

Speaker 4 (17:51):
Like I just just me in the paper and paint
or pencil or paint whatever the medium is and just
you know, just by good time.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
Wait, that was so beautiful almost poetic like this, This is
a true creative Okay. So it's a way to express
yourself based off of what you're saying. So when you're
drawing and stuff like that, it's usually like freestyling or
is it because look me, hey, coloring book, give me
some Like I'm nice with the coloring book, but freestyle.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
You know, I'm a stick figure, girly, you know.

Speaker 5 (18:25):
I like, I'll look at something and dry.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
But since is mad talented? Right?

Speaker 4 (18:32):
Like if I want to draw like bugs bunny, like,
I'll find a picture of bugs money and then I'll.

Speaker 5 (18:37):
Dry like that, Wow, but I could get bugs from memory.
The only thing I can drive.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Okay, still amazing, Like no tracing involved.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
I'm really good at tracing.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
There's another word like that's how you that's how you practice,
that's how you work your way up.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
What's your favorite thing to draw?

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Characters, landscapes, characters, cartoons and stuff, just because like it
takes a least amount of time, like I can do
those prett quick. Okay, Is there a piece of art
you created that you feel like people don't know about
and should?

Speaker 5 (19:18):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (19:19):
I actually do have these three paintings that I did,
but I haven't like posted anything about them or like
show anything because I had this idea like I mean,
I can describe it to you before.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
I yes, please, yes please.

Speaker 4 (19:33):
I wanted to try like my hand and like spray
paint and you know, stuff like that. But I did
an elephant, I did a lion, and I did a draft,
so I drew them all out and only the animals
themselves are colorful spray paint that kind of.

Speaker 5 (19:53):
Deal, and the rest of it is black. But it's like.

Speaker 4 (19:58):
Geometric kind of but it is really good. It's just
like the color is all coming from inside.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
I need to set. That's that poetic stuff I'm talking about.
That's what you're talking about.

Speaker 4 (20:09):
I'm going to add more to those and I'm going
to hang them out in my house. Is my living room?

Speaker 2 (20:15):
All right?

Speaker 3 (20:15):
When you start selling pieces, let me know, let us know, please,
So a little bit more on the art piece. So
do you only do like pen paper? Have you ever
thought about like customizing like shirts, pants, hats.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
I actually was working on a pair of overalls like
but I never finished it, so I think now I
have to finish it. But for the most part, it
is like any paper or paint canvas.

Speaker 5 (20:46):
But I will now that you've mentioned it, I will finish.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
The overalls and come, yeah, said I love a fashion piece,
so go ahead, so we could wear it on the pod.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
I have to get more into it. I kind of
just stopped because it was like I was working on
during the season, So I have to bring that back out,
like I know exactly where it is too.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
So if the w gave you full creative control to
design an alternate jersey for your team, what would the
Ryan Howard Edition look like?

Speaker 4 (21:18):
That's a good question, you know, like I would have
to make it wres something that everybody likes actually put
on time out. Speaking of like shoes and stuff, I
did like have a collab within artists this year to
make a pair of shoes. I'm I'm sure somewhere on
their dreams page, but I definitely did that whole design. Yeah,

(21:39):
everything and just send it to them in mate, So
if you want to go look for that, you can.
But you know, I like a I like a black jersey,
you know, like a dark jersey, and I would have
so for the dream. I'm actually like I don't know
if I'm supposed to be saying this, but they are
including me in like upcoming jersey, and so like I

(22:04):
really want to bring back our light blue and like
as far as the design, like having our area codes
on the back, like because you know, we played for
the city where hearing the cities are our back and
so having that, you know, just including more about the state,
you know, peaches, you know, the blue, like the shooting stars,

(22:26):
all that stuff. And I think right now everything's so minimalist,
like everything anybody can do it. And so just bringing
back the dynamic of you know, hard or like super creative.
I think that's a cool idea.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Yeah, bring some complexity back.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
Yeah, I like, just like have your own thing, like
only only we can wear this jersey, Like nobody else
can go and steal this design. So we saw you
did a cut some sneaker breakdown on social media with
just living Actually yeah, the chance to meet her, Yeah,
she's dope, she's super creative. Also, So what's your dream

(23:05):
shoe collab? Dream shoe collab?

Speaker 2 (23:08):
Mm hmmm, Like what do you mean?

Speaker 3 (23:12):
Like, I mean, it is open to your interpretation, right,
But if you maybe wanted to work with a certain
shoe and you did your own custom, or is there
a custom out there that you love that's already done,
you can't answer it either either way.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
Any collab with like SpongeBob, any shoe, any shoe with SpongeBob,
SpongeBob and you know.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
All right, fire, I definitely saw you had some golf shoes.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
With SpongeBob on them. I saw them. Those were fire.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Yeah, yeah, I gotta bring her or those customs.

Speaker 4 (23:50):
Yeah, I gotta go find them now. So it isn't
gonna take back. So my billy hop she's the guy
who customized all my shoes. I'm actually gonna just send
him a bunch and we're just gonna do a bunch
of SpongeBob characters. But I'm not gonna do like the
mainstream like SpongeBob by Patrick now. But I'm not gonna
do the mainstream like mister Krabs Blinkedin like I'm gonna

(24:12):
do like missus Puff or like a Pearl mermaid man
and Barnacle.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Boy like or the guy who's like my leg.

Speaker 5 (24:19):
Yeah, only people that real SpongeBob watchers would know.

Speaker 3 (24:24):
Come on, I look forward to seeing this. Okay, so
let's do a quick pivot. We're gonna talk a little
bit more basketball. You're from Tennessee, Ryan, your mom played
for the Florida Gators, and even though you went to Kentucky,
you got to be the assistant coach for the Gators
in the off season.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
How did that come to be? Why did you end
up y'all everywhere? Okay?

Speaker 5 (24:47):
Why did I go to Florida?

Speaker 4 (24:49):
I actually was gonna go to Florida, Like I was
just gonna commit, like super super early. And she's like no,
like cool, Like, yes, I would love if you played
at my Mama Mater, but I want you to go
through in process and then if you still want to play, okay,
that's fine, but you need.

Speaker 5 (25:05):
To go to the process.

Speaker 4 (25:06):
Like I don't want you doing that just because I
did it. I ended up not obviously, but I like Kentucky.
You know, I probably I didn't go to Tennessee. They
didn't recruit me till and like they're the last people
to start recruiting me, so that was out the door.
I wasn't gonna go anyway because my mom played at Florida.
So I've never liked Tennessee like, but Kentucky like it

(25:33):
felt like home immediately, you know, I do if I
went back and you know, had to change it again.
I think I've matured enough to say I wouldn't choose
them again. But I am grateful for my time there.
You know, all of the records and all the you know,
accomplishments that would play together. You know it'll they'll hold

(25:54):
it forever, and you know, I'm glad to be a
part of it now because a Kentucky our thing was
four for forty four years, and you get forty years after,
but even longer because I have them for life. They
have me for life, and you know, whether I need something,
whether no coach or anything, like, I know Kenny's there now.
He still reaches out like just to keep everybody involved

(26:15):
and you know, make sure that anything from Kentucky standpoint
that I need it will happen.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
That's so, how'd you end up coaching at Florida?

Speaker 4 (26:26):
Well, so I went overseas my first year and I
didn't want to go overseas again, and so like coaching coaching,
it is like I still need to make money, of course,
but they reached like Kelly who's there now there head coach.
She was the interim my senior year, so I was

(26:46):
very familiar her. She was very familiar with me, and
you know, just being able to go and you know,
everybody says they want to be a part of the
next generation, but going and having that hands on experience
with them and like seeing and being able to tell
them what they can expect now. I know for me,
like my coaches, they knew what the league was like
twenty years prior, so being able to give them and

(27:09):
you know, an example of what's happening now, and you
know all the updates and you know what they need
to work on and what they need to change and
stuff to look for.

Speaker 5 (27:17):
It was helpful.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
And I liked it for me too because you know,
I get to help and you know, I get to
help change and you know, impact the league because I
know some of those players will make it, and you know,
if they do want to make.

Speaker 5 (27:28):
It, I know how to get them there.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
Pluthora of knowledge. Why not those sort of girls are
lucky for sure, Howard on stuff.

Speaker 5 (27:38):
I practicing with them, they hated it.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
I wonder why.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
I'm sure they would all say they're.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
Oh for sure, like that would be so cool. BTA
in practice every single day for real, every day guard
this girl? Literally know why can't guard them?

Speaker 4 (27:59):
Like? No?

Speaker 2 (28:02):
Who got her? Were playing a song?

Speaker 1 (28:05):
Switch help? So speaking of Olympian how did you find
out that you're being selected to represent the US on
the three on three team in Paris?

Speaker 4 (28:17):
I actually had a unique path, so I actually could
did either team.

Speaker 5 (28:27):
But realistically, like I.

Speaker 4 (28:28):
Wanted to play and three everybody plays, and I wanted
to be able to have an impact. I wanted to play,
And you know, I went and I did the camps
like they're like there is a chance, especially with all
the players that go into the ball, there is a
chance that don't make the team. But I know you still,
like really want to compete. And I went to a
tryout camp for durn three and you know, to get

(28:52):
the points, like compete in a little tournament or whatever.
And then you know, when I got the call, Actually
I didn't get a call. Jay Demings came to our
practice and I can delivered the jersey and like told
me like, okay, you're going to be on there on thirteen.
And you know, I'm not a big person to like
prior anything like I don't like show my emotions, but

(29:14):
I was super excited to you know, be able to
do that, and you know, it meant a lot because
you know, the work that I'm putting in isn't going
to unnoticed and you know, being able to go and
represent your country again like on an even bigger stage
than you know, the U nineteen or U eighteen teams,
it meant a lot because you know, now it's serious,
like now like you there's perfection, like you have to

(29:38):
have that, especially with USA standards, and you know, being
able to be considered for the team and making the team.

Speaker 5 (29:45):
It it was surreal at the moment.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
I got chills like that is that's amazing?

Speaker 2 (29:54):
Wow?

Speaker 3 (29:55):
Okay, So you know with the rival, you played threeout three.
You know most basketball you play fall five on five.
What do you think is the biggest adjustment going from
five on five two three on three, especially at the
Olympic level.

Speaker 4 (30:08):
Conditioning mentally, mentally and physically because mentally, like there's no
time outs unless like there's a dead ball, so you
are running, and as much as you know your body
can go, you have to believe that your body can go,
Like you can't say you're tired up top or everything

(30:28):
would just goes. But that's probably really it the conditioning
piece because of how much running it is. And you know,
two less people or four less people on the court
with you, so you're like covering a ton of ground
and doing it all in a short amount of time.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
Yep, Well part of your skill set do you think
translated best to three on three?

Speaker 4 (30:52):
Probably my change of face or my poise, because like
you have less time in three and three. Often thinking
make you want to speed up, but when you speed up,
then you see less. Your mind is only focused on
one thing because you're trying to move so fast. But
I think being able to you know, stay poised and
you know, make sure that everybody's just like not hectic,

(31:15):
I think it opens up a lot more options.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
Okay, Okay, So I got a fun question.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
Who on the three on three squad talk the most trash?

Speaker 2 (31:26):
What's the best line you heard?

Speaker 5 (31:29):
We didn't talk. It's like you can't breathe.

Speaker 4 (31:36):
You don't have the air to even talk, Like even
when we face tip, Like there was no talking, like
nobody can say anything, like we're all just trying to
out here, just trying to.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
I guess that's very different from five on five.

Speaker 5 (31:51):
Then like five on five you have the.

Speaker 4 (31:54):
Chance to walk some mike down, like talk even at
the arrival like there's more time.

Speaker 5 (31:59):
But at the Olympics, like you just you just try
and get them go.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
And you're playing outside, like how what is that adjustment like?
And with the crowd heat, I played basketball because it's inside, okay, right, yeah, No.

Speaker 4 (32:15):
It was hot, but they did like we did have shade,
like it was like a little canopy over us.

Speaker 5 (32:22):
The crowd still hits the same, Like you would think
that it wouldn't be as loud.

Speaker 4 (32:26):
No, it was still a loud because of like they're
all sitting like on top of us, so like we
have the core and then like the rest of the
stadium or whatever, it like goes.

Speaker 5 (32:36):
Up like this.

Speaker 4 (32:37):
But it was fun playing in the heat wasn't wasn't
the best, but at least like when it didn't rain,
it was still covered, so you're still playing on dragon.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
Who was your topest matchup?

Speaker 4 (32:49):
Probably Canada, but like we did end up beating them obviously,
but I think our team, like because of the camp
that I went to before where we played Canada, like
they came and we didn't beat them, So I think
our team was made more so for them, and.

Speaker 5 (33:08):
With the amount of time that we didn't have together.

Speaker 4 (33:11):
I think that's what really like that was our crush
is to continue with everybody else because all the rest
of three and three teams like they do it year round,
so you know, teammates like you, you have that connection.

Speaker 5 (33:24):
We had a week and a half. Two weeks.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Yeah, that's nuts.

Speaker 1 (33:30):
Okay, Well, off the court, what's one Paris memory that
you'll never forget?

Speaker 5 (33:34):
Golfing?

Speaker 2 (33:36):
He went golfing in Paris? Yo, she is a golfing momy.
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 5 (33:42):
I went golfing in Paris. I didn't. It was really
fun too, Like.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
Did you go with your teammates?

Speaker 5 (33:48):
No? I went with my agent.

Speaker 4 (33:51):
But I also like they if I did go again,
they didn't want to come.

Speaker 5 (33:55):
But you know, they started going to other sports and stuff.
I didn't even go to this or the like. They just.

Speaker 4 (34:02):
Actually asked step if he wanted to come, but his family.
I just get out there that day.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
That would be cool. Quality time.

Speaker 5 (34:10):
Yeah, yeah, quality time.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
So how did winning or like competing for a medal
change the way you think about your career and what
was next for you?

Speaker 4 (34:19):
I think it kind of gives you a boost of
confidence because to be out there you have to be
trusted and even if you don't trust yourself, your country
is depending on you.

Speaker 5 (34:28):
Like they trust.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
You, but they they believe in your ability more than
you did.

Speaker 5 (34:35):
It changed because like, why would I regress like I
was just competing for a medal?

Speaker 4 (34:40):
Why would I, you know, carry myself with any less looks?

Speaker 3 (34:44):
Can't go backwards, can't go backwards?

Speaker 1 (34:53):
Okay, Ryan, So now it's time for fun and games.
So you've a couple of different ones today. Shantee, what
are be starting with?

Speaker 2 (35:00):
We're gonna start with our what the fud of the week?

Speaker 3 (35:03):
So what the funner week is basically something that happened
this week that made you say what the fud? So, Brian,
since you are a special guest, do you have what
the fudd of the week for us?

Speaker 5 (35:13):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (35:15):
But it's so good with the fun. Like, so there's
this YouTube channel that the niche watcher subscribe to, atl
Swing King obviously is golf, and we've been watching him,
watching him, watching him, and we actually got on his show.
The name of his channel or the name of his
episodes are Whoop Them Wednesdays, so he'll have people on
and like whoop them like they went well. He had

(35:38):
me and niche show and we did the whooping, but
we whooped him. So we took a title all that.
It was super fun and just being on it and
after watching it for so long, and it's fun.

Speaker 5 (35:51):
So that's what the fud of this week.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
That sounds like a great time. That's what the fun.
What the fud is, Shanti is I knew it? What
do you mean? Jersey dress?

Speaker 1 (36:09):
Oh okay, no, it's nice. I loved it and it
looked amazing. You always look great. But I loved this.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
Friends, So for the listeners and also for Ryan who
doesn't know what she's talking about. I went to AS's
I think it wasn't your first official home game because
I went to the two scrimmages before, and I think
that was the first official home game. And I had
been gifted a large jersey and so I was brainstorming

(36:37):
with my mom. I'm like, we gotta make this fire.
I got to show up to a game can't be
looking crazy. I represent more than myself today. And so
she like cut up the sides and made it like
fringe and then like brought it in. It was super cute,
and I was really glad to be able to be
representing at the game. And as he played great and
yukon one, So I mean it was a great day.

Speaker 4 (36:58):
It was.

Speaker 2 (36:59):
It was good.

Speaker 5 (37:00):
So you don't have what the fud?

Speaker 2 (37:01):
No, so the joint, she was, what the fun?

Speaker 5 (37:05):
And okay have another one?

Speaker 2 (37:07):
Okay? Perfect?

Speaker 3 (37:08):
Yes, come on.

Speaker 4 (37:10):
So I'm watching this show called The One Percent Club.
It's like this game show. They have one hundred people
on and they answer they ask you questions that nine
of the world got right, all the way down.

Speaker 5 (37:23):
To one percent.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
And I'm watching it and I'm watching the first episode,
first season, and I get down to the one percent question,
like only one percent of all the people they asked
got it right, and I get right. So I tweet
like nobody talks to me like if I was on
one percent concident, like I would have won, you know,
one hundred grand, Like nobody talks to me like y'all
don't care. So I'm talking to my agent and she's like,

(37:47):
you remember when you see that they want you on.

Speaker 5 (37:50):
So now like I've done like all the applications.

Speaker 4 (37:53):
And stuff, all the casting, like calling stuff, and so
I'm going to be on the show.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
Yeah that's amazing. You need to let us know win
so we can tune in. Need to tune in, but.

Speaker 5 (38:06):
Whenever we get the date, all right.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
So our last funning game is going to be a
snack ranking. We know you do you try different snacks
and drinks on your socials with Leash, who is by
the way, another w NBA player, her teammate. So we
have ten of the snacks and you're gonna rate them
either S, A, B, C, D or F. S ranking

(38:31):
is like the best thing you've ever tasted in the world,
and then the F is obviously like horrible.

Speaker 2 (38:38):
So the first one we're all going to rank it.

Speaker 3 (38:40):
The first one is funny cottage cheese.

Speaker 5 (38:48):
I've never even cheese.

Speaker 2 (38:50):
Ac, what about you, because we know you have. All
I know is that's an S. I don't know what
you guys did, but that's.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
Wait, yeah, it's gonna go D. It's gonna go D
for me, all right. Next Dubai chocolate.

Speaker 5 (39:11):
Oh my god, that was so nice.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
Yeah, I'm gonna go f as well. Sorry, I haven't
tried it. Next, mister Softy ice cream. Now, if you
don't know what mister Softy is, the softiest ice cream
truck that goes around playing music and gives ice cream
to the kids for a lot of money these days.
But anyways, what do you rank that? That's the A

(39:36):
for me? Let me say, I'm gonna say B. Okay,
carrot sticks with or with that rich They don't say
ranch on him like I mean, I guess yes, I

(39:57):
like that's a.

Speaker 2 (39:58):
B with ranches an A.

Speaker 5 (40:00):
Yeah, she definitely goes up.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
Okay, gummy worms D everybody's A. Wow, that's an A
for me. Popcorn.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
I'm gonna popcorn kick right now, movie theater, movie theater poker.
I'm jacking it. Movie theatre. Popcorn is the S for me.
It's A.

Speaker 5 (40:20):
It's just a trail mix B. I'll give it a D.
I don't like raisin, so I have to pigure out
on that.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
I'll give it a C. Chocolate chip cookies.

Speaker 5 (40:31):
I'll go A. You know, I'm of a dope like
I'm more of a just the dope.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
Okay, that's heir.

Speaker 4 (40:37):
Like even when I make cookies, like even when I
make my own, I just give them to my teammates.

Speaker 3 (40:44):
Oh so you baked too, Okay, what doesn't you do?

Speaker 2 (40:48):
What don't you do? Okay? Cheese crackers.

Speaker 3 (40:51):
B It's like b C, it's nothing special, all right.
Last one, beef jerky.

Speaker 5 (40:57):
I think that's gonna be my ass.

Speaker 4 (41:00):
Slim gems, slim gyms specifically, I love slim gym like
I want.

Speaker 5 (41:09):
To be I want to be a.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
When I used to eat me, I used to body those,
but I don't eat me anymore.

Speaker 2 (41:18):
So that's an f Sorry, let's.

Speaker 5 (41:20):
It, B I eat enough for the both of us.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
Hold me down. Well, that wraps our funning games. Thank
you so much, Ry for joining.

Speaker 1 (41:30):
All right, that is all for today. Ryan, thank you
so much for joining us. It was so nice to
get to know a little bit more about Ryan on
the court, but Ryan the golfer, artists, lego builder, all
