Hello everyone, Welcome back to another episode of Full Circle.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
I'm here with Lexi. Lexi, how you doing.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
I'm good. Good morning, guys. It's eight A right now.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yeah, it's early.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Early just for y'all.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
We're up at the slip at the top of the
morning to get this amazing podcast out to y'all.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
So we appreciate y'all. We love y'all.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
Thank you guys for tuning in every week, and we're
finna get into it. This is gonna be a good episode.
I'm excited about this one.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
I'm excited to Lexi.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
We're gonna start off with, of course, a little bit
of a rain, as we do. But as y'all know,
me and Lexi talk of the dms. We send each
other stuff that we see online, and this week has just.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
Been funny funny, not funny ha ha, funny, weird.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Let me take it away.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Well, you know, I.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Actually saw a post yesterday on TikTok because I do
still love TikTok and someone was talking about how this
season has been like weird vibes, and I kind of agree,
and not because of anything that we as players are doing,
but it's like the overall coverage of the w has
(01:23):
been like odd. So last year it was negative, overwhelmingly crazy,
and then this year it's like strange, Like what post
did we see yesterday?
Speaker 1 (01:35):
So the Big Sports network posted a photo on their Instagram.
Y'all can go look, it's still up of Angel Reese's
dog and it said Angel Reese's dog.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
I don't remember his name.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
It was like Toto or something, Toto celebrates his second
birthday and it was like a picture of the dog
with a little cake in front of it. And I'm
bigger to myself. I follow Angel on pretty much Instagram,
TikTok whatever. I didn't even see anything she posted about.
I don't know where they got that. I don't know
why they posted it. But this is not this don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
To do basketball.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
This is a sport.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
She commented on it. She commented on it.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
This is strange, yeah, because it is a sports platform,
and I feel like the sports platforms have already quickly
run out of things to report on, which is ridiculous
because there there's a plethora of things to report.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
On and talk about going on in the WNBA season
right now. And what it is.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Making me realize that a lot of these platforms have
people in charge.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
So these are the admin.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
You know, last time I was like, not too much
on the admin, but like, right now, yes, we going
in on the admin. These people do not genuinely enjoy
basketball or know anything about basketball, or anything about women's
sports in general. They are just trying to clickbait engagement
and do weird stuff. And I guess, like, yeah, that's
how you get paid engagement clicks, but like, what are
(03:02):
you How is that putting? How is that promoting the
women's game? How's that promoting women's sports? How is that
pushing the game forward? When now the entire this is
not like a click baity site, Like this is major
sports platforms turning into troll pages. And I'm like, I'm
(03:22):
just confused as to why how did we get here?
Speaker 1 (03:25):
I think that some people might be confused because at
the risk of sounding like complaining, which complaining is fine,
there's nothing wrong with complaining, But my point is it's
not just about oh.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
We don't like the way it's being covered.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
I feel like with that post in particular, it just
felt to me the Chicago's guy aren't in the best
place right now, which we'll get into later in the show.
But and obviously, when Angel is posted on any big platform,
the comments are typically overwhelmingly negative, which is not her fault,
but you would think an unnecessary reason opposed her.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
That's non basketball related.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Okay, tunnle fit cool, but her dog celebrating to get
second birthday. It's like you're trying to you want engagement,
but at the risk of what, at the risk of
people insulting her and being mean to her about her dog,
Like it's dumb, you know what you're getting.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Exactly, And that's why I'm just now I'm like, as
I look through their pages, I'm like, a lot of
these posts don't have anything to do with sports at all,
and that's not how women's sports should be covered. We've
been preaching this from the mountaintops. Can we please have
some seriousness about us?
Speaker 3 (04:32):
But I just think that a lot.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Of people covering women's basketball do not They don't like basketball,
which is why I'm so grateful to have this show
and I'm grateful for everybody that tunes into this show
because we really just talk about basketball because I love basketball.
I don't care who's playing it. I don't care who's
doing well. I don't care who's not doing well. I
don't care if I'm getting minutes. I don't care if
I'm not getting minutes. I love talking about basketball because
(04:57):
it's something that I'm passionate about. And there's a a
lot of people in charge of stuff that don't care.
All they care about is clicks and comments and likes
and attention. And I've been like at a loss at
some of the posts I've seen.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
One thing I will say as somebody who works primarily
in social media and doesn't play basketball, is that, obviously,
I work with a lot of these brands like the
Big Sports Network and the W and the NBA on
the social side of things, and the biggest way to
get people who aren't typically into sports to tune into
sports because you need them to is combining and finding
(05:34):
that intersection between sports, pop culture, fashion, lifestyle, those kind
of things correct which I am all about and love.
That's one of the reasons I love sports. I love basketball,
but I do love all that other stuff too. I
think that there is a place for a balance of
basketball strictly basketball coverage. And yeah, people love Angel Reese.
(05:57):
I mean she's like the most falled player on Instagram
of the w Obviously people want to see her and
see what she's doing.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
But post stuff that is related to the game.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
You get what I'm saying, Like, you can't just post, Oh,
she's at home with her dog, that's weird. That's almost
encroaching on her privacy, and like, why is the big
sports network posting that? But post carousel of everyone's tunnel
fits as they walk into the game. And if you
want to make Angel to cover, will make Angel to
cover post a bunch of fits. If you make everybody
just care about one person and everything they do on
(06:27):
the court, off the court when they're at home, and
somebody who's not on a great team right now, what
are new fans who are just following these pages? I
know so many people who aren't usually tuned into sports
that follow me and follow these big pages, and they
go there to see what's going on in sports.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
If they're just.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Seeing Angel Reese's dog is celebrating its birthday, it doesn't
paint the w in a way that people are going
to take the league as seriously.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
And I think that's the thing that's frustrating for W players.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
And w fans Now with the m NBA, the men
people cover and that, I mean, that's part of the
pageantry of basketball. It is a game that is super
ingrained in culture in so many ways, and I love
to see players at the Matt Gala and players on
the cover of Vogue and players.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Doing this and that.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
But we see just as much of the other stuff
with the men too, And that's the frustrating part. It's
just because your women doesn't mean it has to be
just fits in dougs.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
And it's annoying.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
It's very annoying.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
And I hope that as the season goes on it
fixes itself. But if it does it, y'all know where
to tune in at if y'll want to hear some
real hoop talk right here on Full Circle. So, speaking
of that, we're gonna get into some hoop talk. Sorry
about another rent, Actually no, I'm not sorry. Don't be sorry,
but we' finn to get into some basketball talk, and
(07:43):
we're gonna start with a little bit of Commissioner's Cup update.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
So Mariah, do you have an update for us?
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Yeah, So we talked about what the Commissioner Cup is
in our last episode. If you weren't tuned in, it's
basically just the wnbas N season tournament and the current
top teams and cup play are at the Liberty and
the Links And this is really exciting because that could
be a potential finals rematch in the Cup on July first,
So tune in on July first. If you guys don't
(08:10):
know about that, already had that marked off in your calendar.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
And it's great because the stakes are.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Feeling really high early, which is exactly what Lexie spoke
about last week. I'm curious, Lexi, from your perspective.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Are these games?
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Can these games shift the MVP and the all star
narratives right now on the.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
W right now?
Speaker 4 (08:30):
I don't think so, because right now Fee is like
light years ahead of everybody as far as MVP, and
I'm very happy for her. She's playing out a really
high level and her team is also playing at a
high level. So that is really what's putting her so
much farther ahead than everybody else. That she's playing really
well and so is her team as far as all Star.
(08:51):
I mean, I've always had my gripes about All Star
because we have only forty four games, so fifteen games.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
In we start All Star voting.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Like there's players that like might not even find their
footing until like game like twenty three or something, so
really you got to come out like really really hot
to get a nod for All Star. I think I
have an idea of who the majority of the All
Stars will be based on how people have been playing.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
I don't think there's gonna be much of a shift.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
Like I said, there's not really like a huge commotion
about the Commissioner's Cup still, Like I was talking to
one of my friends yesterday and he was like, I
had no idea what the Commissioner's Cup was until I
listened to y'all's episode, and I was like, Okay, well
that's good. That means we're doing our job, but like
also not good because he's someone that actually follows basketball
and the WNBA, and he was like, I didn't know
(09:41):
like all of these things that were going on within
the Commissioner's Cup. So we actually play the Links tomorrow
and they are way above everybody in the West as
far as points spread, so tomorrow's game for us is
like super important if we want a chance to get
to that final game. But right now they're like whoop
(10:02):
everybody's ass as far as point differential, So we gotta
we gotta either blow them out tomorrow or just simply win,
but like a blah win with definitely even.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
The playfield for us quite a bit.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
I'm written in for you, Lexie, I will say number one,
I just just to shift gears just to Tad.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
I forgot to say this at the top of the show.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
We're in our ranting era, but I need to mention
it now. The Commissioner's Cup praised it. Great idea. Honestly,
I think it's so smart of the W to do
that in this time where it's like NHL is happening,
Tennis is happening, NBA Finals is happening, Love Island's happening.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
That's a whole other bad thing.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
But like people are watching a lot on the on TV,
so giving these games like a little bit more of
an incentive was really smart of the W.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
And I wish that that would.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Be being pushed out more so that more fans did
know that that was the thing.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
But I do want to mention because you brought up
All Star. I love WNBA All Star.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
This will be my third year attending and I've always
said it's also my third year.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
It was also my.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Third year attending NBA All Star, and I've said every
single year that I've had more fun at the w
All Star because the players just instinctively try more. And
I praised the format last year, the Olympic versus All
Star team format. Absolutely loved that because I felt like
a gave.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
More of an edge.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Obviously if you were snubbed from that team, where you
feel like you were snubb from that team, you're going
to show out a kay.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
You know, we saw the whole thing.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Yeah, but I just wanted to make sure to note
here on this WVa platform the NBA low key copy job.
Now it's not the same thing, and they really were
copying the NHL, but it's like they are biting same
thing happened with.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
The tuishers come.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Yeah, and they're doing USA versus World now, which okay, great.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
People just want to see people.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
I just want to see good hoop, Like I know
it's awesome, it's I know it's a break, but like
put some money on the line, like I already said,
like we say it on gills all the time, like
people will lock in for some extra money.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
I don't care how much money you make, how much
money you have.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
If there is money that you weren't planning to have
up for grabs, you're gonna.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Lock in for that.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
I think that WNBA typically always has taken All Star
games very seriously because sometimes for players it is like
the only opportunity or the one opportunity get they get
to play, like on a national broadcast next to these players,
you know, having all this attention all about them just
for a weekend.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
So a lot of NBA players take that shit really seriously.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
Even now with the three point contests and skills competition, Like,
I think a lot of players are taking that seriously
now because they put a lot of money on the
line for it, which is amazing, which is why I
want to be in the three point contest, which I'm
still I'm still campaigning for myself, even though I have
not made a Actually I did make a three.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
In our last game. It didn't count though, but it.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Was nice to see that ball student net and then
the other shot I got tackled and how to shoot
free throws. But guys, I finally scored in the game.
I know that that whole conversation was not about me,
but we we made it about me real quick.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
But claps for Lexi for scoring.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
No, I'm proud of I'm proud of we.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
All you need is all I needed to see was
one going to the basket, And honestly, it felt like
very like like lightning, like a weight came off of me,
which is so crazy because I've been in the league
for eight years, but I still was feeling that way.
But I think that the Commissioner's Cup is amazing. I
think it's fun. I hope next year we get a
commercial or something like all the WBA commercial. No, there's
(13:40):
like it's like it's like one of those regular like
highlight la la la la la. It's not like a
Commissioner's Cup like how the NBA did it when they
were in Vegas and the casino like Ocean's eleven type vibe,
like oh I love that, and they had I think
they had w NBA players in it as well, or
that might have been an all Star commercial, like we
need something like extra.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
I don't know. They have my ass and the NBA
Vinyls commercials.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Throw many people's cup.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
Yeah, like, so hopefully next season they'll do something fun
like that for the Commissioner's Cup to be able to
show on TV because I think that would be really cool.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
So if you're listening and fans were eating up the
intro videos for like the starting five intro videos from
the beginning of the season that they were doing, like,
I think, are they longer at the beginning or do
they play those the whole year?
Speaker 3 (14:32):
They play them every game.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Every single game. I feel like i'd be late. So
that's why I don't know the answer to that. Because
how to see.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Them on TikTok.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
And it's not just.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
I love going to new arenas because I'll been like, oh,
let's see what their intro video looks like, and then
I'd be like, oh that was that was okay, Oh
that was really good.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Oh that was weak.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
I love them. I was going through TikTok.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
I'm not going to say who I feel about which team,
but no, not necessary. So far, all the teams that
we've been to, they've had they've had really nice cut
in shows.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Yeah, I feel like everybody they tie in their city.
It's really special. It's fun.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
But that's it again, bringing in this home this whole
point that there are so many incredible ways to market
the w this is so random. I have a really
positive w BA story I want to tell you. So
I was going through TikTok this morning and one of
my favorite TikTokers I believe his name is Horace, but
he's an incredibly smart gay man who posts like really
thought provoking content that has nothing really to do with sports.
(15:31):
But he became like newly a WNBA fan last year
I believe, and he lives in LA. But he was
saying that he was at Pride Parade or something like
that some event and he saw another gay boy wearing
an LA Sparks jersey and he was like, oh my god,
I've been like a fan of the WNBA forever, like
blah blah blah, and so he just walked up to
him and was like, do you watch the WNBA And
(15:53):
the guy was like, yeah, I watched the WNBA. And
they're like, do you want to go to WNBA game together?
And now they're going to like start going to games
together every single week. And I just think it's so
special because you saw I said on TikTok, Like going
to the games is so much fun, just because sometimes
man sport events can be a little bit like you know,
(16:13):
and it's like, yeah, in.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
The stands is like unbearable.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
Like some of the things like even like this is
not a trashing men's sports fans time at all.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
They know we love men.
Speaker 5 (16:27):
They can catch us on our other platforms, right, But
some of the things that grown men say in the
stands at these NBA games, I'm like, what, like.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
I could do this.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
Huh, you're in the stands just with me, what are
you talking about?
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Then you're actually a professional basketball player. You're probably the
only one in the stands.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
So some of the things people say, I like want
to turn around and be like, excuse me, you are
making this game wildly.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
Un enjoyable for me. Like that's why I sit at home.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
No and W games are and I'm not saying that
there's not an intensity and the fans don't talk, they're
mess and like blah blah blah. But like the environment
if you've never been to one, is so overwhelmingly just
like fun and a vibe and positive and well, I
won't say positive because people still get mad if the
if their team is losing, it's sports, but it's just
the best.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
So the way the w has been bringing people together,
like love that.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
I love that.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
What a nice positive story to share, right, I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
I know, I feel like just as much as I
as I ran, I need to tell you that you
guys are like you guys are literally making grown men
make friends in the streets.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
I love that. I love that shout out to y'all.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Even though y'all Sparks fans, It's okay, Well, they.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
Just live in La. They just live in La. So
I'm pretty sure that's why.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
But no, I love that how it goes. I love that.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
I'm sure you're bringing the games together in Seattle too.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
Yeah, there was a whole Pride party downstairs in my
apartment too.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
They was lit. I was watching from my balcony. Oh
my god, Watson move. It was having a blast.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
We need a float at Pride, Like, what.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Does it do we actually do?
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Like we would have a time.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
I heart circle bloat, full cycle float, I hear on it.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
So let's get back into the on the court stuff.
So just for reference, I'm going to give you guys
a rundown of the top five and the power rankings
of this week. So as of right now, number one
is the Liberty. Number two are the Links, which I'm
kinna have them on a one A one B kind
of situation like similar to here, but that's how the
WNBA has them ranked. Number three at what and then
(18:45):
number four the Storm and number five the Mercury. Some
new WNBA awards have been released. We've concluded our first month,
and so really exciting awards were given out.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Lexi.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
We were going to give the people a little bit
of a run down up just to announce who won
the first one. We're going to talk about Rookie of
the Month Kiki Eria Fenn, who.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
I met at the draft. Lovely girl USC so proud
of her.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
One Rookie of the Month Sonya AND's Keiki have both
scored in double figures in their first ten games to
start their careers. They are the first rookies to achieve
that feat since Asia Wilson in twenty eighteen, and she
is the first Rookie of the Month in Mystics history.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
Really yes, shout out to Kiki. That's amazing. I think
that we also need to put the beginning of her
season into perspective real quick. So she's averaging we round
up here for the most part, So she's averaging fifteen points,
nine rebounds. And these have been her matchups so far
this season. Tina Charles Twice, JJ, John Quell Jones and Stewie,
(19:46):
Asia Wilson, Wow, Leah Boston, Brinnany Grinder, and Bree Jones.
Those are the players that she's been playing against the
first ten games of her career.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
And she has been holding her own.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
So yeah, y'all might be like, oh nine wo, No,
that's incredible considering the players that he's been up against.
So I will say watching her at USC, you know,
I didn't. I wasn't sure how it was going to
translate to the W because she was playing with Juju.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
So obviously it's not her.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
It wasn't her Sustein.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
Yeah, she did her thing at Stanford, came to USC
and kind of took a back seat to Juju. But
obviously she's been putting that work in and she's been
showing her versatility and her toughness. So I've been really
impressed with Kiki. The combination of her an Sonia was
two amazing picks by the Mystics. They're really like, they're
really buying into their future because both of them have
(20:38):
started I think, every single game, and then I was
I also want to give a shout out to Brittany
Sykes who's averaging twenty points and five assists and she's
really taking on that veteran leadership role on that on
that squad, and anybody that's watched Britney Sykes plays knows
that she's super competitive, wants to win, always, will run
through a wall for anybody in her teammates.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
And they're headed in.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
The right direction. They're trending up, so that's always a
good thing. Their record might not show it, but they're
definitely trending in the right direction. So shout out to
shout out to the Mystics.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
And I double checked since you said that, and yeah, she.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
Is the first Mystics player to win Rookie of the
Months and the first Mystics rookie to record four consecutive
double doubles and just the second rookie in WNBA history
to achieve four double doubles in her first five games.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Whoa shout out to Kiki Man. I think that this
rookie of the Year race is going to be even
though right now Kiki has now overtaken Paige as the
favorite of Rookie of the Year because Page has missed
her last four games. I think there's there's gonna be
a few more rookies sprinkled into the mix. I want
to give a shout out to Lexi Held, who plays
(21:45):
for the Mercury. She currently is leading the rookie class
in total points so far this season. We just played
the Mercury a few days ago and she came in
and she just looks really comfortable, and I've just been
ready for her opportunity, her number to be called. She
was a training camp contract player. She'd been playing overseas
(22:07):
for a few seasons, and you know, you have two
players like at and Kyle go down, you got to
be ready to fill in some some big shoes. And
she stepped up to the play the last two games,
averaging twenty eight minutes per game.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
So I want to give a shout out to Lexi
even though we got the same Yeah, it's not three
Lexis in the league.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
We got three Lexies in the league now, but she
really has come in and made her mark. So I
think if the Mercury, can you know, continue to win.
She's definitely going to be in the conversation for Rookie
of the Year as well, for sure.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
I think New fans haven't gotten the opportunity to hear
as many of these positive stories of players earning their spot,
you know, and having a story like Lexi's where she
went from. It feels so weird calling somebody else, like
from a training camp contract to scoring her career high
which was twenty four and the Mercuries went over the Valkyries.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
Is really so shout out to Lexi.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Shout out to Lexi. Okay, next awards.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Let's get into player of the month.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
So Player of the Month Alicia Gray from the Dream
atl period. She has started the season with twenty one
point four points per game average, which has helped boost
Atlanta to third in the league standings. Jordan Canada is back,
which we talked about last week a little bit.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
What they're going to look like when she comes back.
She didn't have the best.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
Debut, didn't score on her debut, however, just coming back,
so easing into things, Lexi, are the dream looking like
a dream team or what happened?
Speaker 4 (23:37):
I think that they're still figuring out their cadence because
you do have You've now added a player in Jordan,
who is the point guard, and so she's running the show.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
The team goes as she goes.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
She typically is not an outside shooter, so that kind
of is going against everything that they've been doing up
to this point. So finding the way to acclimate her
style of play, which is more to the basket, putting
pressure on the rim, to the outside shooting that they've
been living and also dying by this season. Speaking of
Alisha like she most Improved is such an interesting award
(24:14):
in the W because so many elite players, like their
opportunities are there and then they're not, and then they're
there and then they're not. So there's very rarely like
a situation where you see like a top player like
make a huge leap because usually that top player like
has had like a consistent role in consistent numbers over time.
(24:37):
So it's hard for like top players to make huge
leaps because they've just been consistently grinding it out. But
the way Alisha has improved from last season to this season,
I think it's like plus seven six or seven points
per game. She definitely is making a case for most improved.
But then when you look at like she's probably going
to be an All Star, and you look at that
(24:58):
and you're like an All Star, Like that can be
a most improved player, But like, I feel like anybody
who makes a significant leap in their production should be
in the conversation for most improved. And I think when
you hear most improved, they're like, oh, she must have
been really bad and now she's better. Like no, it's
just it's all about production and opportunities. So I feel
like they're still figuring things out playing with the double
(25:20):
post players three and bgr they like shot threes, but
like they're still not shooting the outside shots as much
as maybe we would have expected, playing for a coach
that typically likes to shoot threes. But I think they're
gonna be fine. Dream Team.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Unexpected loss to the Sun kind of put a damper
into that narrative a little bit. But shout out to
Marina Maybrief with her thirty four point outing in that
win over the dream I know you probably didn't like
watching that, Mariah, but I enjoy watching.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Marina, I really do. She's she's fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
I mean good for her. I mean good for her,
that's all I'm gonna say. Good for her if they can,
If they can, good for the time.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
If they can string some more wins together before All
Star breaks, she Marina could also be an All Star.
I think the way she scores the ball. But they're
just the Sunner is just very up and down.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
But that was a big.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Win for them, like much needed win for them for sure. Sorry,
it had to be against your dream.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Let me just say, I'm I'm an Atlanta sports fan
through and through. I've been here my whole life. I
know a thing or two about unexpected losses.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
We'll be all right, We'll be fine.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Now, Lexi, I'm curious, just as an observer and having
done this show throughout the first month of the season,
I'm a little bit confused because Fee, she's leading the
league in scoring, the leagues are undefeated.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
She seems to be the favorite for the m v P.
Why why not?
Speaker 4 (26:54):
They have to so they have East and West. Oh,
so I'll least show one East Fee on West.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
Okay, thank god, thank god.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
Well, I just gave you your flowers feed leading league
and scoring. The Links are undefeated, obviously, We've already spoken
about it. She's looking like the MVP right now.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
I was gonna I.
Speaker 4 (27:12):
Feel like, yeah, I feel like this show has turned
into like a Links Liberty hypefest because they're playing. They're
playing so well, you have to you have to mention them,
like the way they're playing is unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
That's what happens when you have a real basketball show
covering basketball. You know what I'm saying, Like, they're the
best teams right now, and so obviously that's going to
get talked about. You see what happens when you talk
about the teams that.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
Are exactly exactly and it's very easy to talk about them.
So we're not going to get into fees MVP stats
because we talk We literally talk about how she's playing
every week. So we're going to use this time to
talk about the Links and then also transition into a
little Storm Links preview opportunity for me to give us
a little Storm update but also talk a little bit
(27:57):
about the x's and o's of our up coming game.
So the Links, we played them in Minnesota and we
lost eighty two to seventy seven.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
It was a very winnable game for us.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
You know, we say that as the losing team, and
then obviously the Links probably went back into their locker.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Room it was like, man, we should have beat them
by way more. Da da da da da.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
So I'm sure the energies were very different in our
locker rooms. I mean we obviously there's no participation trophies
and stuff, but like, we actually felt pretty good after
that loss.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Like I said, it was a winnable game. K mac.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
Kayla McBride has officially returned. You know, her first game
back was against US, and since then, she's averaging three
point four yep, seventeen points per game, fifty five percent
from three, making three point.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
Four threes per game, which is wow, insane.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Like last game, I think she shot only threes, which
is like a dream, a dream comes true, able to
go out there and just shoot up all the threes
and stuff like that, and she's making them at a
high level.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
So obviously she has earned that.
Speaker 4 (29:06):
So fee is number one on our scatting report K
Mack right under her. Can't forget about Courtney Williams. Actually
you really can't forget about anybody on that team. That's
what makes them so dangerous. They have a super efficient offense,
seventy eight percent of the shots that they make are assisted, which.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
Leads the league. We have seventy.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
Percent of our shots being assisted, which is third in
the league, and second is the Liberty of course, and
then both of our paces are the lowest in the league.
So when but when people think slow pace, they think like, oh,
you walking the ball up, Oh we're slow, Like no,
it's just we execute a lot in the half court, which,
come playoffs is a very important skill to have.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
Obviously, you want to play up and down transition.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
Sometimes thinking less is better, but if you can execute
in the half court, that puts you like ahead of
the game for a lot of others team, so it's
going to be an exciting game. We both play very
similarly outside of the three point shooting, but we're getting there.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
We're getting there.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
We're still I think last and three point attempts, but creeping.
I think we're going to creep up there, slowly, but surely.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
I hope.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
Listen, y'all got this.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
Please please let me shoot some threes.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
You know, that's my favorite.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Girl me two, it's my favorite.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
That's my favorite.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
Let mean, let me see, I'm about to check right
now where we are in three point attempts. Okay, we're
not last anymore, we're second to last.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Oh, who's awesome.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
The Mystics Okay, seventeen per game. We're at eighteen point
three per game, and the Valkyries are at thirty two
point one per game. So the Valkyries, and we play
the Valkyries this weekend. So this is why this is important.
We're about to talk about the Valkyries in the second.
They take the most threes in the league and have
(30:57):
the worst percentage. Wow, so obviously that's a folk. I mean,
I watched their game last night against the Sparks. They
are hunting threes, Like there are players that I've never
seen take more than one three per game, taking multiple
and that's not a bad thing. They won their game
last night in overtime. Like the strategy is working because
(31:17):
at the end of the day, threes are worth more
than two.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
So if you make just enough threes.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
That's a sand fram mentality.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
No, exactly, Like they literally like, you know what we
gonna be like the women Warriors over here, and they're
actually playing like pretty well despite shooting twenty seven percent
from three.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
But that's crazy.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
So they only make about eight per game, well nine
since we round up and then New York takes thirty
one per game, Atlanta thirty per game, so and we're
at eighteen. So putting that in perspective for our listeners,
but we are shooting thirty seven percent, which is second,
(31:58):
so that's important.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
I will credit Gabby Williams for that because she.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
Has been quality of a quantity game.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
Yeah, she's been shooting her ass off these past few games.
So shout out to Gabby for carrying carrying the three
point load for the Seattle Storm.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
But I'm ready when they need me, you know, Okay,
we know you got this. We got it.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
Okay, So we play tomorrow night, guys, or well it
will be to night when this episode drops. I don't
think it's on television. Leak pass it up. If y'alln't
have lead pass.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
Yet, get it.
Speaker 4 (32:31):
Maybe we'll gift one of our listeners leak past if
y'all don't have it.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
I love that we have a comment.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
Under our YouTube and we'll send y'all some moneies for
leak pass if y'all don't have it, because I think
that's important because I want everyone to have access to
these WNBA games, so leave a comment under our YouTube video.
Moving on to the Valkyries, let's talk a little bit
about them. We haven't really talked much about them, so
let's talk about them.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
Yeah, I do want to give it. We're gonna move
on to talk out a little bit of news going
on around on the W. But I do want to
give the Valkyries a little bit of a shout out
because they had their fourth sellout eighteen thousand plus fans.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
They are selling out.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
The arena, which is really really special and really really important,
and I'm hoping that they're enjoying their fan base in
this inaugural season. This is why expansion is so exciting,
because New City is getting to take in the W
see their opponents, see their team become fans. It's really
really special. So shout out to them for that. Just
wanted to give a little positivity. But Lexie, what are
(33:27):
you seeing on the court?
Speaker 4 (33:28):
So, like we just mentioned, they're shooting a lot of threes,
it must be I'm like when I watch them play,
it's like it's been like very refreshing to watch a
team just play really hard. Like obviously no one had
much expectations for them, which I thought was odd because
(33:49):
you have a team full of WNBA veterans, high level players,
you have champions on that team, you have a coach
with championship experience. Why everybody immediately wrote them up off
was beyond me. I was talking to Skyler the other
day about the Valkyries since we play them soon, and
we were talking about like their fan base. Like I
(34:10):
said that they're gonna win like a bunch of games
off the strength of their home court advantage, like that's
a real thing. And she Skylar had been on the
Dallas expansion team and Tulsa was an expansion team, so
she'd been on two expansion teams. And she was like, yeah,
you go in and like no one thinks, like y'all
gonna do anything because it's an expansion team. And she said,
(34:32):
like she was on teams that made playoffs that probably
shouldn't have because you have this like freedom, and like
you should always have expectations for yourself and for your team,
but sometimes it's okay to just be like, let's just
vibe and play hard. And I think that the Valkyries
(34:52):
are still finding their identity. Obviously, shooting threes is one
of their identities, but also like they play hardest shit,
like and you assume like, oh, you guys all should
play really hard like we do, but like they play
like really really hard, and it's been like really fun
to watch them play. I love watching their games on
TV when they're at home. Their crowd is incredible and
(35:14):
they're four and five right now, so like they're doing
pretty well considering how many new players. They have, new city,
new coach, new everything. But they have everything in place,
you know, they have a facility, they have an amazing
coaching staff, Like they have everything in place for them
to be successful.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
And then you have a.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
Group of players that got out the mud, been waiting
for their opportunities and they're just taking full advantage of it.
So I want to shout out Kayla Thorton and Veronica
Burton for you know, stepping into those leadership veteran roles.
You know, Kayla just won a championship with the Liberty,
so she knows what it's like to win a championship.
And I got to know Veronica because she came and
(35:51):
played in Athletes Unlimited two seasons ago, and she was
tough and I was just like, I can't wait for
her to get her opportunity in the league. You know,
she's a great defender, she's a great person, she's a
great leader.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
And she's just getting her opportunity as well.
Speaker 4 (36:05):
So I want to shout out those two because if
you look at their you know stats, Kyle Thorne was
a dog in Dallas, don't get me wrong, but when
she was in New York, she played a role to
help them win a championship. And Veronica Burton just hadn't
had an opportunity to show what type of players she
could be in the WS.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
So I'm so.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
Happy when players get opportunities like that. Their last game
they just won in LA and overtime win. But we
gonna talk about the game before that, which was a
ninety five to sixty eight victory over the Aces, which
was on ABC, I believe. So that was a huge one.
(36:42):
Did you watch that game?
Speaker 3 (36:43):
No? Oh, because I was too, because I was just
what is going on? Like that was belt to ask
if I've ever seen it?
Speaker 4 (36:53):
Like they came in on some different energy that game,
for sure, and so did the crowd, Like it was
lit in there, like even when they were up by
a lot, like the crowd did not let ease up.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
At all that entire game.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
And I love that. Yeah, that sucks for the opposing team,
but it was.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
A like you look at the score and you're like,
that must have been a bad game to watch. But
like sometimes when a team is like clicking on all
cylinders like that, even if they're up by a lot
of points, it's still a really enjoyable game to watch.
And I'm not I'm not happy that you know, the
ace is lost or anything like that. I'm just I
always love watching good basketball and you look at the
(37:32):
score and you're probably like, that was a good basketball.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
That wasn't good hoop, But like when you see a
team just.
Speaker 4 (37:38):
Vibing and everyone's smiling and shots are going in that
usually don't go in, Like those are fun games to watch.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
And that's what the Valkyrie Aces game look like to me.
Speaker 4 (37:48):
I don't know if anybody else will agree or not,
but that's what it looked like to me.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
I'm really really confused. I saw Asia's quote. Well I
watched her because I was like, no way she said that,
and then I watched it, but where She's like, we.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Would, But I'm curious.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
LEXI watching obviously very exciting for the Valkyries.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
But what are you seeing with the Aces?
Speaker 4 (38:15):
Well, from what I said last time we talked about
the Aces is Becky is going to her bench very early,
and we typically have not seen that from a Vegas team.
She really usually goes like six seven deep maybe, So
I think that's something that's being getting used to, is
(38:39):
finding a rotation because this league is so talented, Like
you have to use your bench players. It's a long season.
You don't want to run your starters into the ground.
It's important to find a rotation. So I think that's
something that they're dealing with.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
Jule being a.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
New player who has been a premier scorer in this
league for so many years, sliding into a role that
she's new to. You know, when she was in Seattle,
you know, new players would come and then they would
they would find their role around her. This is her
first time trying to have to find her role around
solidified superstars in this league.
Speaker 3 (39:14):
So that's a process as well. And then, like I said.
Speaker 4 (39:17):
Before, like people can say whatever they want about Kelsey
Plumb and how she left and I want to get
out of here, but like you cannot take away what
she brings to the table as a player and we're
seeing her do it in Los Angeles right now. She
can handle the ball, she's a three level score, three
point threat. She can finish at the rim, she makes
free throws, she can pass when she feels like it. Like,
(39:41):
that's a player that left a gaping hole in the
Aces offense, and I think they're just figuring out how
to fill it. But I think also in women's sports,
I just feel like every time a player like leaves,
it's like the horrible, awful breakup, Like everyone just kind
of dwells on it, like, oh, oh, we just have
this Kelsey Plumb sized hole. How are we gonna fill it? Like, no,
(40:04):
we don't have a Kelsey Flum sized hole. You now
have a jewel Lloyd, So figure out how to use
your new piece. Like I said, Ruby Q Rubik's Q.
Speaker 1 (40:14):
In that game on Saturday, they were outscored by the
Valkyries thirty four to fifteen in the second quarter.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Yeah, Like.
Speaker 4 (40:23):
It was like a wrazy game to watch. And Kayla
Thorin had twenty two and eleven that game. Veronica Burton
had fourteen points, twelve assists, seven rebounds. I thought she
was going to get a triple double, but she wasn't
able to make that happen, but she was very close
three rebounds away. But that was just one of them games,
you know, sometimes that happens. And maybe that's like the
(40:44):
kick and the ass that the Aces needed because they
have had like a somewhat slow start to the season,
so maybe like that was the game and then they
had They've had a few days to marinate in that,
which often in the WNBA. In the NBA, you don't
really have like a few days to think about anything,
right because you have a game like the next day
(41:04):
or in the next day and a half. But this
game was on Saturday, and they their next game is Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
They gave them some time.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
Oh I can't imagine what those practices looked like.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
They gave them some time because yeah.
Speaker 4 (41:15):
Yeah, so their next game is against the Sparks in Vegas.
So that's a game I'm going to be well, I
can't watch it because we'll be playing, But if we
weren't playing, I would absolutely.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
Be tuned into that game.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
Like that is tea.
Speaker 4 (41:31):
How the Aces bounced back from that loss, so especially
with Plump coming back.
Speaker 1 (41:35):
Especially whoaying yeah, that.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
Is going to be tea.
Speaker 4 (41:39):
She already made her return to Vegas, so that raw
Ros Probably, No, it's not, because every time it's not.
Every time we went back to Vegas with Liz, and
every time we went back to Vegas with Deerica, it
was always like it was.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
Nuts but they have a crazy but it was still
like you.
Speaker 6 (41:58):
Could feel that energy, like you left a dare you right?
Speaker 1 (42:10):
Well? Getting into some other news, Chicago took a major
head this weekend. Franchise legend and starting point guard Courtney
Vanderslot went down with a knee injury in Chicago's seventy
nine to fifty two loss on Saturday to the fever
and immediately look to be an immense pain. We have
since found out that she suffered from a torn acl
and will miss the remainder of the season.
Speaker 4 (42:32):
Slutie, I hate that for her, I really do, especially
her being able to come back to Chicago and play
in front of her her fans that she knows so
well and love so much, and they love her back.
Seeing that happen was heartbreaking. I didn't see it happened.
My parents actually saw it, and they like actually texted
me and they're like, oh my gosh, salute like hurt
(42:53):
herself bad, and I was like, I was praying hard
that it wasn't an ACL. But when we got that news, dropped,
my heart dropped for her.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
So it was like five minutes into the game.
Speaker 3 (43:02):
That's so crazy. It's so sad. Just the injuries this
season have been very tough.
Speaker 4 (43:11):
Like I feel like there's so many injured players right now, and.
Speaker 3 (43:15):
I hate that.
Speaker 4 (43:16):
And there's no way, there's nothing to blame to like
freak injuries, Like there's no way, it's yeah, so I hate.
I mean, we're gonna send positive and healing energy to
all the players that are injured right now, but absolutely
to Slute because tearing your knee at this point in
your career, like is definitely something that you hate. I mean,
(43:38):
you hate it at any point in your career, but
this is definitely her you know, victory lap type part
of her career, so for it to get interrupted with
an ACL tear, it is really heartbreaking.
Speaker 3 (43:50):
So sending prayers to Slute.
Speaker 4 (43:53):
But on the flip side, you know, finding kind of
a positive moment in Salute's life is Ali Quigley, her
wife actually officially announced her retirement today.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
Oh, so you.
Speaker 4 (44:04):
Know, sending prayers to Sluti, but also congratulations to Ali
having an amazing career. I was blessed to be able
to be teammates with both of them when I was
with the Chicago Sky, and I've learned I learned so
much from both of them. Slut has such an incredible
basketball mind and just the way Ali is another player
who really got it out in the mud as well,
earned her way to being one of the best players
(44:25):
in the WNBA, one of the best players in Chicago
Sky history, and.
Speaker 3 (44:29):
I was able to win a championship with them. So
I love y'all.
Speaker 4 (44:33):
I know y'all probably won't even hear this, but if
you happen to, I love y'all. Wishing you well, Sluty
and congrats Ali on an amazing career.
Speaker 3 (44:41):
So grateful to be part of both the y'all's journeys.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
It looks like Haley van Lyth, well, well she did
in that game, but is stepping into that starting point
guard role.
Speaker 4 (44:51):
Opportunities y'all earlier said they come quickly, So like anybody listening.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
Whatever roll you're in at your job.
Speaker 4 (45:02):
If you're on a team and you don't think that
you're ever going to get your chance or your opportunity.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
You never know what's going to happen. Stay ready.
Speaker 4 (45:10):
Something happens, You've got to be ready, not only physically,
but also mentally.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
That the mental part is the hardest thing.
Speaker 4 (45:17):
And I think that's just the thing that I have
conquered as a professional athlete, is the mental side of it.
It took a long time, and I finally am at
a great place mentally where I can deal with the
ups and downs of.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
Life, the ups and downs of sports.
Speaker 4 (45:31):
But this applies to any any situation, not just being
a professional athlete. But success is when preparation meets.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
Opportunity meets opportunity. Yeah. So there's a little gem for
y'all today. Love that flex.
Speaker 1 (45:46):
Oh that's trademarking now. So leading into this week as
we close out, I just want to leave the people
with some things to watch, games to watch. I know
I'm definitely going to be paying attention to Dream Versus Fever. Obviously,
Kaitlyn Clark will not be returning. I wanted to make
sure I mention that to the audience. The Lynx coming
to visit you, Lexi, which I'm really excited about. Excited
(46:10):
to see if Vegas bounces back from that as well.
This weekend, Lexie, what are you watching and who do
you want to give your flowers to?
Speaker 4 (46:19):
Obviously I said I wish I could watch that Sparks.
Speaker 3 (46:21):
And Aces game.
Speaker 4 (46:23):
Honestly, hopefully we can be the first team to make
the Links not an undefeated team anymore. But then I'm
also looking at whatever team could make to give the
Liberty their first loss as well, so looking forward to that.
I don't know what the longest undefeated streak in the
WNBA is, but I'm looking at who can give these undefeated.
Speaker 3 (46:42):
Teams their first hols.
Speaker 4 (46:43):
Hopefully it's us and we will by next week we'll
have that answer. And then for my flowers, I'm giving
my flowers to Ari McDonald, my girl, one of the
most amazing teammates I've ever had, and for her to
get waved from a team that she probably thought she
was gonna be on for this season, and for her
again being ready, staying ready for her opportunity get picked
(47:07):
up by the Fever and providing the exact spark and
energy that they needed while they were dealing with injuries
and stuff like that. I want to give a shout
out to her and give her some flowers because that
is not an easy thing to do, to get thrown
in the fire like that, and she was ready and
the Fever are embracing her like crazy as she deserves. Oh,
(47:28):
Zoe thirteen straight wins for the Links in twenty sixteen.
Speaker 2 (47:32):
And I looked into it as well. That is correct
and it's crazy.
Speaker 4 (47:37):
Thank you Zoe for that. Okay, So though, do they
both nine and zero right now?
Speaker 3 (47:42):
Hm? Okay? Well, as a Storm player.
Speaker 4 (47:45):
I'm going to put my money on the Liberty getting
there before the Links because our plan is to give
them their first l.
Speaker 2 (47:54):
Get it done, Lexi.
Speaker 4 (47:55):
I hope this age as well, but I got to
be confident in my team. So here I am saying that. Okay,
who do you want to give flowers?
Speaker 2 (48:04):
Anybody say this is a woman's sports show.
Speaker 1 (48:06):
I am going to give my flowers to Cocoa Golf
today because Coco she won the French Open and I
think that that's amazing. Her speech afterwards about America and
everything going on was incredible. I think it's important we
remember everything happening around the country as we talk about sports. Obviously,
there are so many things going on bigger than sports.
I thought that her opponent did not handle that with grace,
(48:28):
and I like that Coco. You know, she chopped it
up like she was like she still talks to her.
She was like, I want to be her too. How
to beat anybody? Now? Okay, right here, So congratulations to
her standing tall in her success.
Speaker 2 (48:42):
I'm a huge fan and I loved her.
Speaker 4 (48:43):
This, so I'll love me some cocoa golf. We need
to get her on the show. We got to figure
that out. I don't know if she's about a fan.
She has ownership and unrivaled.
Speaker 2 (48:53):
Actually, I was just about to say that, yes, she
has to be.
Speaker 4 (48:56):
She definitely tapped in, so we would love to have
her as a guest also well, So if you guys
want any guests, please let us know, because obviously we
like to talk basketball. We don't want this to be
like a guest centered show, but we love bringing people
in to talk hoops with us, talk about their journeys,
their full Circle moments.
Speaker 3 (49:15):
And next week we actually will have a very special
guest that I'm very excited about. I hope you guys
will be excited as well.
Speaker 4 (49:22):
So thank you guys for tuning in to another episode
of Full Circle Podcast.
