Speaker 4 (00:52):
I'm so I never bet anything fun happens in the summer.
I know it's very rich there. It's like luxury, oh everywhere.
From what I've been seeing and told, it just is wealth,
like a different type of money over there. So interesting.
Oh my gosh. I can't wait to see the pictures.
I can't wait to see the video.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
You know, I brought the digital I'm definitely gonna ye
get cube picks.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
Oh, I can't I can't wait. Okay, Hi, guys, I
know last week we said we were gonna have a guest,
but they had to reschedule unfortunately. But that's okay, more
time for us to yap about the W and all
things that are going on this past week because it
was a it was a crazy week.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
There's a lot we need to talk about.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Yeah, there is, okay, some big headlines, just like a
few things that happened around around the league. Caitlin Clark
dropped thirty two and ended the Liberties undefeated streak.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Angel Reese gets her first.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Triple double, which we called the dream or Quiet Man.
All Star voting is kicked off and there are no
more undefeated teams left in the W. LAXI, we're gonna
get into Houston trouble and who's peaking. But what do
you want to get into first?
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Let's get into Commissioner's Cup update real quick. Okay, So
I know a lot of you guys having a Commissioner's Cup.
I'm glad our episode was able to help y'all understand
exactly what it is. This Commissioner's Cup compared to the
ones in the past, probably is the most interesting down
to the wire. There is currently a three way tie
(02:28):
in the East between the Dream, the Fever, and the Liberty,
and then there is a first, second third in the West,
but there are implications for winning and losing for both sides,
So first in the East. This is the scenarios in
the East. The last games for Commissioner's Cup are Tuesday,
(02:50):
I think, yes, Tuesday, just tomorrow. If Atlanta wins against
New York, So this Atlanta Liberty game is going to
be like WNBA Finals, like the way they're going to
be playing. So if Atlanta wins, they're going to the
Commissioners Cup Championship, which I feel like they have been
flying under the radar for a while now and I
(03:11):
love on the show researching it today. I know, right,
thanks for our resident Dream fail here and Mariah. I
had no idea that if they win and or tomorrow
then they'll be in the championship. So if Atlanta wins
beats thee Liberty, they will be in the championship. If
Atlanta loses and the Fever win at Connecticut, they will
(03:32):
go to the championship. And if Atlanta loses to New
York and Indiana loses it to Connecticut, then liberally will
go to the championship. So we will not know who
is going to be in the championship till the end
of the night, which is very exciting. Meanwhile, on the West,
if the Links win and doesn't matter, it doesn't matter
(03:54):
what anybody else does. If the Links win their last game,
they're going to the championship. Phoenix is chilling in second,
but they have no chance to win the championship. Go
to the championship, which sucks for them, but they had
a good run. Shout out to the Mercury. We will
talk about them later. Seattle. If we win and the
Links lose, we're going to the championship. So we are
still a little bit in control of our destiny. We
(04:16):
tricked off the game in Golden State. We'll also talk
about that later. But yeah, so I'm praying that the
Links lose and we have to beat the Sparks because
I want that money. I want that money, I want
a trophy, I want another championship. So Commissioner's Cup has
been exciting, and like we said, it was, the build
(04:37):
up for it was a little man, but the games
have been amazing and having this as the final day
is great for us, it's great for the sport, and
I'm really excited to see who ends up in the
Commissioner's Cup Championship because it's a lot of money on
the line. I know, a lot of money on the line.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
That's gonna be That's gonna be tea.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
I can't wait. Okay, but now, since we were just
talking about.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
I was gonna say the same thing, let's getting into.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
The Atlanta Dream a little bit. Yeah, go ahead, So
what we got going on with the.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Dream, Let's talk about how the Dream turned into a
nightmare for the Mystics.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
The Dreams.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
The Dream went up three to zero this week with
blowout wins, including a thirty three point demolition of the Mystics.
Ryan Howard ties demolition girl that listen. I couldn't find
it word better than that. Ryan Howard tied the single
game three point record with nine.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
And she took nineteen. Who she took more threes? She
took two more threes than the other team. I'm pretty
sure the Mystics. Was that the Mystics game where she
shot all those threes. No, no, no, that was the
Sky game And that makes sense. Yes, she shot nineteen threes.
The sky shot seventeen in that game.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Yes, because I wanted to ask you, Yes, Are the
Dream really as good as I am perceiving them to be?
Ryan Howard hitting nine threes, all of these things going
on them going through now? Or are they just having
a pretty easy schedule? Should I be bracing myself?
Speaker 3 (06:08):
No?
Speaker 4 (06:09):
I think they're legit, all right. No, they're legit because
we played them and they beat us in Seattle, which
is not easy to do. They're legit. I think they're
buying into that coach's play style, which is quick, lots
of threes. Unfortunately, Beg is having a career low in
(06:29):
minutes currently, But I think they're going to find a
way to acclimate her because she's too talented of a
player to be playing less than half of the games.
But again, the play style, it doesn't really suit her
play style. But I think they're going to be able
to find a way around that because I think Bree
Jones is fitting in pretty well. It is hard to
(06:51):
have both of them out there together for an extended
period of time. I think Ryan and Alisha have been
leading the way. I think Alisha is going to win
Most Improved because I can't really think of any other
player that is making the leap that she's making offensively
and defensively. There are last three games. Guess how many
threes they've shot.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
And so against the Sky shot nineteen.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
If you're listening, think of a number in your head.
I promise you're not going to guess this. They've taken
one hundred and one threes in the last three games.
So they are shooting that thing. Okay, they're shooting, and
I love watching it. That's a lot of threes that
they're shooting. That's the style of play that he brought
from Floidogulf Coast. So I'm not surprised when you play
(07:36):
a team like that and you're the Mystics who are
currently last and three point attempts, you don't really have
a chance in hell to beat them if they're shooting
forty two threes in a game and you're not even
attempting twenty.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
A team that can shoot threes.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
We talk about this all the time, but we both
are biased to that play style. But like a team
that can shoot threes effectively and a lot is always
going to be so dangerous. Now, obviously the other by
the three, you die by the three, But like when
it's working.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Yeah, it's working, and you're gonna they're gonna win more
games than they lose when they get up that many threes.
One because when you you have to like let me,
we say about the Celtics all the time, people are like, hey,
they shoot too many threes. It's like a you have
to practice playing that way because there's certain rebounds that
are gonna come off at you. Guys will only know
where they're coming off at because you practice that way.
There's a pace. You got to play fast enough for
(08:28):
it to make sense because you still have to score
layups and score mid range and then you have to
score your two's out a really high percentage, which they
do as well. Also with Atlanta, I want to shout
out nas Hillman what she brings off the bench, the
energy last game ten eleven and five, Like that's a
very efficient, great game from a bench player, so top
(08:51):
to bottom, Like they're very dangerous PopOut comes off the
bench sixteen six for eight for I mean four for
six from three, five no turnovers plus twenty three in
seventeen minutes. Like when you have players like that coming
off the bench, like you're a very dangerous team. So
shout out to the Dream They're playing extremely well, and honestly,
(09:12):
I wouldn't mind seeing them in the Commissioner's Cup Championship
because New York won already. Yeah, so I want to
see a new team in the Commissioner's Cup Championship. No
shape to the Liberty, but I think Atlanta they're starting
to get there shine a little bit. Like we said,
they're kind of been flying under the radar. I think
that's over now, especially if they get to the to
the Commissioners Cup Championship. So do we want to stay
(09:32):
in the East. We're going to stay in the East.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Let's do it.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Let's okay. We want to give a special shout out
to our girl, Angel Reese with her first career triple
double eleven points, thirteen rebounds and eleven assists. Her first
career triple double in just her first forty four games.
The only other players that have gotten there faster are
Caitlin Clark, who got it in twenty two games, and
(09:56):
Sabrina Yuneska, who got it in six. So shout out
to the triple double girls.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
Yeah, I know she's gonna do it. I knew that's
you did, y'all.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
When I call that. If I'm right about something, I'm
gonna let y'all know I was right about it. And
I'm pretty sure they probably ain't even clip that part
of our episode and put that shit on Twitter. But
I hope y'all do.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
LEXI I know obviously the sky aren't exactly I don't
have them as contenders.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
But is this a good sign that Angel is.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Stepping into this new role in a more positive way?
It was all y'all eleven, thirteen, and eleven for those who.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Didn't see, Yeah, she it's taken her some time. Again,
it's only eleven games. Taking somebody who was a traditional
back to the basket big and putting them on the perimeter.
That's not an easy thing to do, so it has
taken her some time to really embrace that role. She's
still going to get them rebounds. I mean, she's still
(10:55):
averaging me bounds that she's trademarking. If y'all see that,
she's still gonna go get those And the fact that
she can consistently still go get those rebounds while playing
on the perimeter is so impressive. I don't think you
guys understand how impressive her rebounding is. And the fact
(11:16):
that she's been able to still do it being on
the perimeter has made such a difference. Her getting that
triple double just says a lot about that offense. Like
I knew he was going to bring her outside. They
have so many scoring threats. Hayley van Litt is another
one that came off the bench scored sixteen points. She
had a great game. Aerol Atkins is starting to look
(11:37):
more comfortable, and yeah, I just think that, yeah, like
I agree with you, Maryan contenders, I wouldn't say, but
I think they're about to turn a corner. And a
lot of people have been saying that Angel could be
like the Draymond Green of the W. But I already
feel like the W already has a player like that,
and it's Alyssa Thomas. So if we're gonna compare her
(11:58):
to anybody, it's gonna be like Elisa Thomas, but with
the Rebecca Brunson rebounding mentality, which is a very dangerous
player to have on your team. So I've been seeing
a lot of those Draymond comps. I even caught myself
saying the Draymond Green comparison too, But I mean Alyssa
Thomas is right there, like we already got We already
have a Draymond Green type player that can fill it
up with points, rebounds and assists, will Laois out on
(12:22):
the screen, will stop you defensively. So I think Angels
turning a corner, the Sky turning a corner. They did
beat the Sun. Not taking anything away from that win,
but you know, that's a team that I don't know
what's going on in Connecticut at the moment.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
If you listen to our podcast, you know you know
exactly what Lexi means by that.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
But I think any win is a good win in
this league. It's not easy to win in this league.
So it was good to see her get that achievement
on the road at that Like, shout out to Angel,
shout out to the Sky because y'all was trying to
pack up the Sky and the coaches, the coaching staff
already in eleven games. But trust the process, y'all, like
(13:03):
not great things aren't built overnight. Right.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
I have a question, Lexi, because earlier I was speaking
about stat padding. Right, I was talking about stats, and
it was in the sense of like that does happen
in sports in a certain kind of way, But I
don't think people understand how difficult it is to do
these things like getting a triple double or double double
(13:27):
or getting rebounds in the.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
WNBA very hard.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
I would just like for you to speak to fans
about how truly difficult it is to have a triple
double in a league like the WNBA.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Yeah, Like, I've only had one triple double in my life,
and it was in high school, and I've gotten remotely
close to one since. Honestly, the double double is the
hard part. And then you can like stumble up like
you'll have like a good day, you gonna have like
a good night. If you're a player that like doesn't
average like crazy numbers like a yo kid at was
(14:00):
even really close to like averaging like two K numbers
of the triple double, it's like a consistency. But if
you can show that versatility in your game and your
teammates recognize that about you and embrace that about you,
they will help you get your triple doubles. Like maybe
they'll let you get like they could go get that rebound,
but no, like she gonna get this rebound for her
triple double, or you know, maybe they're gonna work a
(14:22):
little bit harder to make their shots lock in a
little bit more like it's really a team effort, especially
when it comes to assists, because that's a two player thing.
Like you can make the best passes in the world,
but if your teammate doesn't knock the shot down or
make the layup, or they take one too many dribbles,
then you don't get the assists. So I think that
she'll get multiple this season. She'll definitely get multiple throughout
(14:43):
her career if it's something that she focuses on and
kind of leans into. Like a triple double is a
triple double, Like who cares if it's like ten ten ten,
Like a triple double is a triple double. But it
is a very very hard thing to achieve. And for
some reason, and I know we're going back to the NBA,
like when Russell Westbrook was doing it, averaging that the
(15:03):
way y'all get to averages that, the way Luca almost
averages that. It's starting to become people think that like
it's normal and it's easy. It is not easy to
do that. So I hope that everybody understands that no
matter what level you're at, what type of player you are,
if you get a triple double, let alone average a
triple double. You're like otherworldly in a sense. So shout
(15:24):
out to the triple double people.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
And you're making your teammates better.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Because again Alcalaxy said, that's actually what made me bring
this up because earlier on I speaking about I was
talking about Asist in particular and how you're relying on
your teammates to make those shots. You can pass all
to them and they can break all day and it's
not gonna count.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
It's not gonna get you anywhere.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
You're not only making great passes and like putting them
in a great spot to make shots, but also like
empowering your teammates to be able to knock those shots down.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
So exactly, because you know this being.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
A shooter, there's teams you're gonna be on where coaches
don't want like everybody taking every shot, you know what
I mean.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
They don't want everybody like shooting threes or doing this
or doing that, So it takes it's a full team effort.
Getting treble novel is no easy heat.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
Yeah, and it's a level of trust because you can
make that say, you can make up a great pass
and the person misses it, it is your obligation as
a teammate to knock the shot down, But also it
is an obligation as a teammate too. If that person
is open again from the same spot and that's a shot,
you know that they can make you have to give
them the ball again unless you have a wide open
(16:27):
shot or something like that. And I think that's the
trust that the sky are building, and I think that
it's gonna come along. I mean, there's gonna be eight
teams in the playoffs. I still think that they can
make the playoffs for sure, but I mean they still
got pieces. They just lost their point guard to an injury,
and that's hard. They have Mariah Jefferson still chilling like
she's gonna be back soon, so that's gonna be another
(16:48):
point guard presence that they need. I really love seeing
Hvo her like her confidence, like went through the roof
that game, like that's something that you love to see
as well. Elizabeth Williams looked great, Rachel. It was good
to see Keia Nurse hit some shots. She you know,
had kind of a rough start to her season, so
it's just a comfort thing. And I think they're getting there,
so I think everyone can like ease up on the
(17:10):
sky a little bit because they're figuring it out. So
shout out to the sky.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
We have to get into another big performance because I
was shook Caitlin Clark returning from her quad injury and
going off against the undefeated Liberty, the defending champs.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Granted the Liberty.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
The Liberty were without some key pieces, like they were
at full strength. But the way that this game went,
I don't know, Lex you can probably say differently the beat.
I still felt like the Fever had a handle on it.
But Kaitlin Clark dropped thirty two, nine to eight and
made seven threes, including three in forty three seconds, and
(17:57):
the Fever beat the undefeated Liberty.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
I almost fell out fell out my bed when I
was watching that. When she did that, I almost fell
out of my bed. I was like when she pulled
up for that third one, the first one, okay, I
knew she was gonna shoot it. The second one, I
was like, oh shit, And then the third one, I
already knew she was gonna pull it. When they inbounded
the ball, like, I said, Oh, she's shooting that third one,
And when that went in, I was like, Yo, she
(18:21):
is crazy and for you.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Guys got to understand against defenders like atash Cloud or
like stewietor like this is not like these are people
who have made multiple defensive teams.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
These are good players.
Speaker 5 (18:34):
Like she don't care, She does not care, giggling after Yeah,
Like I just love sports, Like how do you guys
not just watch basketball and just not be happy?
Speaker 4 (18:47):
Like basketball makes me so happy when it's being played
at a high level. Like I was like giggling with them.
I was like that was such a cute little moment,
Like that's what sports is about.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
I loved it too.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
And to come back from being out and like people
being excited to see her again it being the defending
champs then being undefeated and it put up a performance
like that. It just shows why she gets the hype
that she does, you.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Know what I mean, Like she really starves.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
She is super started for sure.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Keep in mind she's a year and almost a half
into her WNBA career.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
This is still a baby like in.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Her baby literally, Like I don't watching her growth from
year one to year two hasn't been surprising, but it's
been like really cool to see. It's been refreshing to
see somebody come in the league, have an amazing first year,
get all the accolades, all star, all these things, and
(19:46):
then just come back with an even bigger chip on
her shoulder, which I didn't think was possible for her
to have a more competitive edge to her than she
already had. And being out injury. I know that was
hard for her to do. Sit out, but you got
to prioritize health and yourself. It's a long season, so
for her to come back, she was ready. Like, like
you said, those three threes she hit in forty seconds,
(20:08):
I was like, oh, she on one today. But also
on the flip side, losing squad Sabrina had thirty four,
so it was a little bit of a shootout. I
really enjoyed watching that game. The Fever hit seventeen total
threes in that game, So again, there's not a lot
you can do when a team is clicking on cylinders.
(20:28):
As far as that, they went super small. They had
Sophie and Lexi Hall playing a little bit of four,
which I think benefits their play style for sure. And
then I want to give a shout out to Aleah Boston,
who is shooting sixty percent from the field right now
and is averaging forces per game, which is a career high.
So she has figured it out. She has figured out
(20:49):
how to be a piece to the Rubik's cube in
the Caitlyn Clark Rubik's que which is adversatile, big that
can pass, that can finish. She's stepping out, hitting some threes,
she sets great screens. They look good. I know everybody
was like, eh, they're not contenders anymore because they're five hundred,
but they were missing their point guard and their starring
Kaitlyn Clark, so I think they held their own. They
(21:12):
did a decent job holding it down while she was gone.
But she's back now and they're back being scary.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Mind you, it wasn't just Caitlyn.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
They were They had like seven players that were healthy total.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Yeah at won't point.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Yeah they were hurt.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Yeah, they were struggling. Another big performance that we want
to highlight is Pagebackers, who also came back and scored
a career high, which her career has been like fifteen minutes,
but still a career high thirty five points Wednesday night
in Phoenix. But the Wings did fall ninety three, eight
to eighty, but still a huge performance from the rookie Pagebackers.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Actually, what did you see just the.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
Way she plays the game? Like I said, she plays
the right way. I think we saw a little bit
of that selfishness come out. You have to be a
little bit selfish to score thirty five points. She really
was trying to will her team to win. I don't
really want to get into much about Dallas. I feel
like there's been a lot of conversation around Dallas that's
been odd. So I'm just we're just gonna stay away
from Dallas. Just focus that Page is back, that she's playing, well,
(22:16):
they're figuring it out. I mean, I'm not really sure
what's going on in Dallas as far as offensively. Defensively,
we just lost our girl Lee to the Wings. So
maybe she'll she'll be able to give me the inside
scoop maybe about what's going on over there. Shout out
to Lee heading over to Dallas. I saw her practicing
with them, and it was like odd to see her
(22:37):
in a Wings jersey. But you know, hopefully she helps
them a little bit. I mean, she's a great player,
great post presence, can shoot the three. So but shout
out to Page. Thirty five points fresh off of concussion.
Very impressive, but again Auntie's baby. Everybody's very proud of her,
love watching her girl from game to game, and two
three more games, she probably gonna be back in the
(22:58):
running for Rookie of the Year. But like we said
last week, it's Kiki's award right now, but I think
it's going to be it's gonna be between those two.
I'm pretty sure for Rookie of the Year. But there's
a lot of rookies going crazy right now. So shout
out to Page in Dallas. I hope y'all figure it out,
because I know it's frustrating. I mean, we're kind of
we're not as bad as Dallas, but like we're still,
(23:21):
you know, not achieving what we want to achieve as
a team either.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
So you felt where I was going.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
I was.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
I was just about to say, it's time for us
to give some like brief reaction slash commentary on just
like teams around the league, things that Lexi seeing, things
that I've seen, what's been going on. But we obviously
have to check in on Lexi, Sam the Seattle Storm.
I will say, I will say we're starting off on
(23:48):
a very positive foot because the last time we talked
to y'all LEXI was about to play with the Storm
against the Lynx and they added the.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
Links their first out.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
Sure did and shot fifty six point five percent to
ninety four points.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
LEXI, what energy like in the building?
Speaker 4 (24:04):
Oh? I was lit in there. Unfortunately I did not
play that game, but it was fun to be there.
It was, like I said, we should have won that
first game in MANI so be able to get that
game back so early in the season was great. I
was really excited to get that win. It was a
(24:24):
great win for us. But the season moves quickly and
we quickly had a pivot to play the Valkyries. And
if y'all saw that game, it didn't go as well
as the Minnesota game. And that was a game that
if we don't make it to the Commissioners Cup Championship,
this is gonna be the game that haunts me and
haunts our team for sure. For a little bit, I
(24:46):
finally scored an actual field goal. I scored a three.
I hit my first three. WHOA, Yes, I played thirteen minutes.
I think, you know, most minutes I've played in a
few games, so I think it was fourteen. Yeah. The
ups and downs of a WNBA season so that's the
(25:08):
whole staying ready. Lets you stay ready, Brown. But that
was a tough game for us because they sat in
a zone almost the entire game. And if you guys
have been watching us play, this is not a secret.
We have been struggling playing against zones. The Aces played
us in a zone when we lost. Valkyries just beat
us playing in his zone. We play the Sparks tomorrow.
(25:30):
We are expecting them to potentially come out in his zone.
We are prepared to play against the zone people. Okay,
I have never seen this much zone being played against
the team that I'm on in my professional career, and
it's disrespectful and I'm tired of it. But it's smart.
It's a strategic move because we do not shoot a
lot of threes, but we are capable. So shout out
(25:53):
to the Valkyries. They had a great game plan. We
are second in the league in paint points, so they
packed the lane, didn't let Neka get going, shut down
our driving lanes, and just sat in that damn zone.
I think my coach said almost eighty percent of the
game they played in a zone, which is insane. Wow.
It's usually you get a team up out a zone
(26:16):
quickly with some shots, some easy layups, but we could
not figure that zone out. But today in practice we
talked very in depth about how we're going to break
a zone if we ever see one again. So shout
out to the Valkyries. That game, like that atmosphere or
that arena was incredible, it was amazing, it was positive,
it was fun. And that Valkyrie team, like we said
in our preseason episode that they're going to be better
(26:38):
than what people think that they're going to be. And
I think Timmy said the best thing in her media
after our game was that she said, our team is
full of six women, like we know what it takes
to win games, we know what to do, or adaptable,
we've all been here before. So there's like a difference
between like when you talk about yourself like as a
six woman like versus like a role player or like
(27:00):
a bench player. Like, no, a six woman is basically
a starter, but they on a bench. So that's a
completely different mindset of being like a role player on
the bench. Not saying that none of them are important.
They're all important, but that six woman mentality is completely different.
It's like you basically are a starter, but there's only
five starting spots. So for her to say that like
(27:21):
that makes a ton of sense because that's why they're
all playing the way they're playing. They play hard like
I said they would. They play hard as hell. They
go after rebounds. Yeah, Like I wish we could get
that game back and we go back there in a
few in a few weeks I think, or maybe less
than a week. I don't know, all the games run
together to be you go back. If we go back there,
(27:43):
and we're gonna have to get our get back. But
that's been like the theme of our season so far,
like just we'll have a great game and then a
not so great game, and then a really good game
and then a not so great game. We'll beat the
best team in the league, and then we'll lose to
a team that we think that we should beat. I mean,
but that's the thing about a season, and it has
its ebbs and if its flows, and it's ups and
(28:03):
its downs. But I will say that this team has
done a really good job of sticking together and staying
positive and always getting up the next day and working
on what we need to work on. Everyone stays in
the gym, getting their shots up, keeping their bodies right,
taking care of themselves. So forty four games, we're what
is this? Eleven games Q one We just finished Q one.
(28:26):
Not the start that we probably wanted or were expecting.
But thank god, we got three more quarters to go
in this season, and I think we're gonna be fine.
We're gonna be just fine.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Now let's get into some brief reactions about some of
the other teams.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Now we'll start.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
Let's start with the Mercury. Okay, they're in their best
start since twenty eighteen. Top defense in the league, LAXI
anything do you want to tell the people about the Mercury.
Speaker 4 (28:51):
They are basically the team that I was expecting them
to be, even without call. We were able to finally
see Ka play their last game, shot eleven points in
eighteen minutes, so it was really good seeing her back
on the court. At and Sawtu are just like the
head of the snake right now, until Kyg gets back
(29:12):
acclimated after being out with an injury. At is in
the midst of a three game streak of ten plus assists,
which is incredible. Like I said, the Joymond Green of
the WNBA is at. They have a top five defense,
their offensive rating is kind of bottom half of the league.
But like we said, until they get all of their
(29:33):
pieces back, Natasha mac back playing after being out the
injury caused back, I think that their offensive rating we'll
go back up. But the players that they put around
saw too and at are like Chef's kiss, like they
assembled a great team with great pieces. So shout out
to Phoenix. They look really good. They've been playing really
(29:53):
well and I'm just excited to see them at full
strength because we haven't able to see them at full
strength yet.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
Now we already sp about the fever and the five
hundred club, but they are dangerous again. Bat with Caitlin
Clark back healthy and similar, she's in her villain era
or like, I.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Don't know what she's got going on, but she's going nuts.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
The Dream who have been the most efficient team of
the week with their statement wins, and let's talk about
the undefeated teams that are not so undefeated anymore. The
Links celebrated to Mont Augustus Day, which we'll get into
some of that at our flower giving a little later,
but they had a bounce back blowout against the Sparks.
Sorry to them having to deal with the Links team
(30:31):
after what y'all did to them. But Lexi, what did
you see in that game that was able to get
y'all over the hump to beat them?
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Well, it was our defense on Fee, So huge shout
out to Ezzie, Neka and Dom who have been the
first players defensively that kind of had Fee a little
frustrated and off her game. And ain't nothing worse than
a frustrated Fee because you don't get frustrated often. If
y'all haven't noticed about her demeanor, she's very chill and
(31:02):
when she fished, she's fished, and she took it out
on the Sparks. So I think the biggest takeaway from
our game was the defense that we played, the team
defense that we played on Fee, and then also the
team defense that we played on Courtney Williams. You know,
we made her uncomfortable with the ball. We didn't allow
her to get into a rhythm. Shet her mid range jumpers.
Kmack had a really good game against us. Unfortunately, you
(31:26):
can't stop everybody, but we can try. And then I
think they just went into that the Sparks game, which
is they were just mad that they lost and Fi
had an amazing game. We were watching some of the
film today of that game, and I don't like the
Sparks just like weren't locked in defensively at all. They
kind of were just getting whatever they wanted, especially Fee.
(31:46):
I think she had almost thirty points at the half
or something crazy like that. But I'm going to take
I'm going to like charge that off like to the Sparks.
I think every team has one or two games a
year where they're just kind of like ours was our
first game of the year in Phoenix. But you know,
we watched clips from that game and the Sparks just
did not look very strong defensively. So hopefully that's something
(32:09):
that we can also take advantage of, especially at the
post Ncca didn't have a great game against Golden State,
so I can assume that she's going to come in.
Hopefully Meika will take that energy that Fee had against them,
see what she can get open get herself going, because
her last game in Golden State probably wasn't great to
her standards, anybody's standards, and Mecca's standards for herself are
(32:32):
extremely high, so I'm excited for her to get her
bounce back game in LA. I'm excited to be back
in La playing Crypto one of my favorite arenas to
play in, So hopefully I get on the court shoot
some threes. It's definitely a shooter's gym. So I'm excited
for our game against the Sparks.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
That's something you're familiar with.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
So next, let's talk about likely.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
I need you to give me some answers about the aces,
I mean, injuries and consistency, tension.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
What is going on?
Speaker 4 (33:12):
Yeah, well, I think that everyone definitely was focused on
the loss of Kelsey Plumb, but they also lost two
of their assistant coaches that helped them win championships, and
they both have obviously left a gaping hole on that bench.
With their presence, with their knowledge, you can see what
(33:33):
nat is doing with the Valkyries, what Tyler's doing with
the Sky Like. Those are two really amazing coaches and
coaching minds and basketball IQs that no longer exist in Vegas.
I mean not saying that their new coaches aren't up
to par. They absolutely are. They're there for a reason,
but relationships building, learning new coaches, the coaches, learning the players.
(33:54):
They have a lot of new faces on that team.
They've been playing without their MVP. Wilson who's been out
with the concussion. But on the bright side, Jule is
starting to look a little bit more comfortable. Last two games,
She's had twenty one points and seventeen points. Jackie also
has been her silent assass itself been carrying the load
(34:16):
of scoring since Age has been gone. Also, Chelsea has
been shooting a lot more. She's averaging fifteen points a game,
I want to say, which is tying her career high
average in points per game. So she is taking more
of an offensive load. But unfortunately for the Aces, not
for Chelsea, because she can play however she wants. But
she is the point God for a reason. She's averaging
(34:39):
under forress per game for the first time since twenty sixteen.
So point God is doing a little bit more scoring,
a little less facilitating. And I think that's also one
of the reasons why Vegas just doesn't look like the
Vegas that we're used to seeing, because the point God
is not distributing the ball. Also, it could be we
(35:00):
are not knocking dunshots. Like I said, assists are two
way street, and they're figured.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Out, as I say, could because of the personnel changes.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Like you you spoke about earlier, how that also being
a person who gets a lot of a sess.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
It's trust related as well.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
Not saying that she doesn't trust her teammates, but you
always trust yourself a.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
Little bit more maybe than other people.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
So might put you in that mode, especially about the
MVP right there with you, like where you're like, Okay,
I'm gonna go out and get mine because.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
We gotta win, you know.
Speaker 4 (35:27):
Yeah, yep. And she I mean we watched her and unrivaled.
We've watched her over her career, like she can go
for thirty any given night. Chelsea is a very high
level score, three level score. But I just think that
they're figuring it out. Their last two games they had
Dallas and Phoenix, and they had two different starting lineups.
They went big with Liz Kitley against Dallas. They went
(35:47):
a little smaller against Phoenix with Tiffany Mitchell in the lineup.
So they're just trying to They're just trying to figure
it out, just like so many teams are right now
this season, are simply trying to figure it out because
they have so many new pieces. I don't know when
Age will be back. Concussions are hard. I've had one,
and you could be back in a few days. You
(36:08):
could be back in a few weeks. So one thing
you don't want to do is rush because you don't play,
you don't play about that brain. So sending healing wishes
to Asia for sure, because the gay misses you were
you out there, We miss watching you play. So I
hope you feel better soon. And I hope Vegas figures
(36:28):
it out because the league is more fun when Vegas
is good. Also, they're a fun team to watch, So
I think they're gonna be fine. Jewel. The important thing
is Jewels getting more comfortable. That's why they brought her
there to be a scoring threat. And I think right
now is a perfect time for her to get acclimated
because there's there's shots there for her to have since
age is not on the court. So I think they're
(36:49):
gonna be They're also going to be fine. Like there's
a lot of teams that people are like, what's going
on again? We just think Q one, y'all, or just
think Q one. Everybody relax. Everybody relaxed. Unless you in Connecticut,
Ordelas or Dallas, you can panic.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
You can or you could just like play free. But anyways,
All Star voting has begun. I just wanted to make
sure all the fans now so crazy. Yes it's it's
still Q one, but.
Speaker 4 (37:16):
Ten games, but ten games in All Star voting is
and you have.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
From the twelfth to the twenty eighth to vote for
who you might want to see.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
Vote for me, guys, I got you, Lexi, I got
you trust especially on the double vote, Yes for sure,
So make sure you're voting. Thanks, No, in all seriousness,
if you're if you're really going to use a vote,
vote for Gabby, Skyler and Mekka and Edsie, like especially Gabby.
Like obviously I want Skyler and Mekka, Azzi, all of
(37:44):
them to make All Star, but I really would love
Gabby to make an All Star Game this year. The
way she's playing has been so amazing, so great. So
if y'all are going to go vote, go vote for
Gabby and the rest of my teammates.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
But definitely yeah, before we go, I just want to
to give a quick shout out to the twenty twenty
five class for the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, which
is such a huge deal.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
We also had Simota gust to stay.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
She was honored this week, and I just wanted to
give Lexi an opportunity to say, maybe somebody like a
Hall of Famer or a past w player, someone in
women's basketball that's inspired you in your career, maybe we
give our flowers.
Speaker 4 (38:22):
Oh, this is perfect. Simone is the perfect person to
give my flowers too, for today because my second season
in Minnesota, she was there still as a player, and
she was in and out dealing with the nagging injury.
But she was like the first veteran that really took
me under her wing and taught me like the ins
and out of like what the business of WNBA is
(38:42):
and how to play the game and how to be
a pro whether things are going your way things are
not going your way. And she just taught me a lot.
And she's such a great vibe. Like if anybody has
ever been around Simone or met her or heard her speak,
like even her Hall of Fame speech she sang a song,
wrote a poem, Like that's so like her personality, Like
(39:04):
in a nutshell is her writing a poem as her
acceptance speech for her Hall of Fame, Like she is
one of the dopest human beings that I've ever been around.
And I do have a fun little story time about
Simone that she if she ever hears that, she's gonna laugh.
But we would have shooting competitions during shoot around or pregame,
(39:24):
like we would just always try to outshoot each other.
And one day I bet her because I always have
my nails done as y'all see, hot pink, I bet
her if I beat her in the shooting game, she
had to pay her nails hot pink, and she lost,
so she had to pay her nails because I know.
So we had an appearance like a day or two
(39:47):
after she had to get her nails painted at the
Minnesota State Fair. We were like signing autographs to take
a picture, so all these people saw her with her
bright pink nails and she kept them for a while.
She kind of liked them, but yeah, that yeah, so
I mean, I mean, Samona Gus is in a shooting
competition multiple times, guys.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
So that's exactly why you need to be in the
three point contest.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
Exactly why I need to be in the three point contest.
What a plug, Maria, What a plug? Y'all? Get me
to the three point contest, y'all? Okay, pay my girl.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
She wanted to be in that contest, so bad.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
I told you, if I'm not there, I'm doing I'm
doing my own I'm gonna have my own Hull Circle
before Full Circle three point contest. If I don't participate
at least one time before I retire, oh you will,
I have to, Like, I literally cannot retire until I
at least participate in one, just one. But that's enough
(40:41):
of that for the episode.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
You guys, Me and Lexi have like today has been
a day, but it's always the most beautiful thing to
come and talk basketball with y'all.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
Hopefully next week we are like.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
Yeah, we had a pivot today because we were supposed
to have our guests, so we kind of had to
throw this episode together. So bear with us, guys. It
was so fun talking about everything going on w BA.
Like Mariah said earlier, it kind of was in our
favor because this week was too good to not talk about.
So I feel like everything happens for a reason.
Speaker 1 (41:11):
Well I need to go do my altar wodding because
I haven't yet. But thank you guys for listening to
this episode or watching if you're.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
Watching us, see y'all later.
