Speaker 1 (00:00):
Greetings, high school football fans. This is Go Fight Win,
the show with all the high school football stories you love.
My name is Wes Blankenship, and on this week's episode,
we'll take a look at a Pittsburgh high school football
team that only had eleven players on the field, not
just at one time in the field of play, I
mean on the entire freaking field. We'll see how they did.

(00:22):
Plus a Texas high school football coach trying to pull
off his own Connor Stallion's impression, a New Jersey woman
who got a little abrasive on the field after a
high school football game, and a high school football coach
honoring his dad with a tree. Also, you remember Noel Devine.

(00:43):
If you don't, I'll take a look at the legacy
that this guy had on the world of high school
football recruiting highlight tapes. It's all coming up on Go
Fight Win. Lace them up at the bottle to Donnie
Pug and let that pudge you know Coach dooley'slist dot com.

(01:12):
Y'all have heard me talk about it all season. Here
on Go Fight Win, and I'm happy to do it.
Coach Dooley was my high school football coach when I
first started playing the game. We had a great season,
we went undefeated as freshmen, and now coach Dooley is
working on another undefeated campaign. Coach Dooley's list dot com
has an extensive network of vendors people who can help

(01:34):
you out if you are in any way involved with
high school athletics. They can help you out with your equipment.
They can help your band out with equipment. They can
help you with trophies, they can help you in the
concession stand. Coach Deulie's list is like the Angie's List
of high school athletics. You know how many things you need,

(01:55):
how many little items, how many pieces of equipment that
it takes to make high school athletics season of success.
Coach doulei'slist dot com has it all. My guy has
been working in the coaching world for decades now in
high school, not just in football, also in softball and baseball.
He's got a lot of great connections and extensive list

(02:16):
of people that he's compiled to help you find not
just what you need, but the best options of what
you need. If your coach, your team, mom, a teen dad,
someone involved with the band, cheerleading, whatever you need coach
doulei'slist dot com is the place to be. All right,
let's start off with our high school football headlines from
around the country, as we do every week here on Go, Fight, Win, Hit, Subscribe,

(02:38):
leave a rating, leave a review if you have not
done so already, and I really encourage you, if you
are a coach, if you are you know, watching your
own communities high school football team, share this show. Let
people know that we're here to celebrate high school football.
This is what this show is all about. All the
high school football stories you love, and this one is

(03:00):
no different. All right. Starting off in Pittsburgh, this team
here might have the story of the season. Westinghouse High School.
This is in Pittsburgh, like I said, taking on Perry
Traditional Academy, and this game was anything but traditional. In
its previous game against University Prep, Westinghouse had a brawl

(03:22):
and the sidelines cleared and they had to face some discipline.
They didn't have any discipline in this game. So after
a kind of a pile up rough tackle, looks like
the officials whistle may or may not have blown, some
punches were thrown and they got into a big old fight. Well,

(03:44):
Pittsburgh Public schools came down and said that Westinghouse could
still play despite the brawl, but they would have to
have a quote significantly reduced roster, and come game time
against Perry Tradition Academy, Westinghouse only had eleven players on

(04:06):
the active roster. Now, I don't know if that you
know that statement from the public school said you can
only use eleven or if there were some injuries and
they only ended up with eleven one way or another.
Westinghouse only had eleven players. But what did they go
on to do when they played Perry Traditional Academy. They

(04:27):
beat that, yes, sixty eight to nothing. Most of the
eleven players left to play were offensive starters, according to
Caden Hardy, who wrote this story for Total Pro Sports
Total Pro Sports Venturing Beyond the Pro sports Realm. It

(04:50):
appears covering some high school sports, but I'm glad they
did because this is the coolest story I've seen all year.
Most of the eleven players left were often of starters,
and I guess that goes to show you know, if
you need athletes on the field, which side of the
ball can really help you out the most? Well, at

(05:12):
least in Westinghouse's case, it was the offensive side of
the ball. Sixty eight to nothing, Man, that is freakish.
I don't think you want that ideally, But maybe Westinghouse
has some sort of advantage here. You only have eleven.
You can only play with what you got. You don't

(05:33):
have to worry about any too many men on the field, penalties.
I don't know who handled kickoffs or punts, or maybe
they still had their kicker in there somehow. I mean,
that's really what I want to find out next, is
who was on the field, who was handling all the
nitty gritty details. That's uh. At that point, it becomes

(05:54):
like a baseball coach, like a playoff Major League Baseball,
playoff roster management situation. But you don't have any utility players,
You don't have any pinch hitters. You better have some sluggers, buddy,
you better have some home run hitters. And apparently Westinghouse
does sixty eight to nothing with just eleven players. No depth,

(06:14):
way to go, guys. That's that Pittsburgh grit right there,
Westinghouse tip of the cap. Nice win, all right? Not
so nice? Here This story out of Dave Campbell's Texas
Football Great Great site Texas Football Dot com Palestine Westwood
head coach Richard Bishop has been recommended for suspension for

(06:38):
the rest of the twenty twenty four season following allegations
of videotaping opponents signals while scouting. Here's what the article says.
Palestine Westwood head coach Richard Bishop may be suspended for
the remainder of the season following a District nine three
A Division I District Executive Committee recommendation. That's a lot

(07:00):
of letters, a lot of numbers. All it means is
somebody in power is going to have to make a decision.
Bishop is facing allegations that he orchestrated and executed a
plan of videotape opponents signals while scouting the old high
school football Connor Stallion's routine. And by the way, Connor
Stallions is coaching high school football this season after his

(07:23):
Michigan scandal. The DEEC laid out severe punishments for coach
Bishop and Westwood football, ruling that Westwood and coach Bishop
committed violations that were quote intentional, serious and egregious decisions
disregarding the rules of fair play. According to sources with
knowledge of the meeting, Superintendent Wade Stanford promptly notified the

(07:46):
district chair of plans to appeal the forfeiture ruling. The
district is currently awaiting communication regarding the scheduling of a hearing.
Blah blah blah. We'll see if he gets suspended. But
you can't have this, you know, if the allegations are true.
The DEEC also ruled that Westwood must forfeit all district

(08:07):
games for the rest of the twenty twenty four seasons.
So if this happens, they're cooked. Sources confirmed to Dave
Campbell that Palestine Westwood intends to appeal a meeting by
the SEC. I don't know if that's the Southeastern Conference.
I don't know why they would be getting involved. I
guess Texas Texas and controversy are kind of the theme

(08:30):
of the week here. Maybe so, But Palestine Westwood is
currently undefeated. Are they really that good or the coach
Bishop just run a really efficient spygate operation here? And
that's the problem when you have these major scandals in sports,

(08:53):
spygate connor stallions, it doesn't always just serve to tell
people like, hey, you shouldn't do this. Sometimes it emboldens
people and it tells them, hey, maybe you can do
this better. Maybe you can get away with this. I

(09:13):
am not implicating coach Bishop. We will see what happens.
But it's interesting to see that scandals that you see
in the NFL and scandals that you see in college,
you know, they don't just happen there. People want to
win everywhere. And I hope that wes Wood is innocent.

(09:34):
I hope that coach Bishop didn't do this. It really
sucks that you put your players in that position if
it really did happen. But we'll keep eyes on that.
Hook them all right. Out of New Jersey. Woman charged
with harassing high school football player on the field after

(09:55):
a game. Police say, this is from NJ dot com,
your source for Lake Lake. Are there any lakes in
New Jersey? Your source for local, state, and national voting
starts today for fifty percent off. That's J dot com
shouting them out because I'm reading from their article. A

(10:17):
Wall Township woman has been charged with harassment and disorderly
conduct for allegedly confronting a Howell High School football player
after the team lost at Wall High School Friday night.
Wall police said in a statement that Kelly Davis, fifty three,
walked onto the field after the game and was quote
aggressive and disruptive with a seventeen year old Howell player.

(10:40):
The incident caused concern among players, coaches, and spectators and
drew the response of police officers and school staffers, who
de escalated the situation and escorted Davis off the field
and school premises. Police said. While police did not say
why Davis was in attendance or if she had any
allegiance to or relationship with, any of the play, police

(11:02):
started an investigation and sought witness statements to ensure a
comprehensive understanding of the situation prior to filing charges. The
department charged Davis Saturday and issued her a summons to
appear in Wall Municipal court. Wall won the game twenty
four to fourteen. Look, this woman just wants to win.

(11:26):
I don't know if there was alcohol involved, if there
was a bad call in the field or with the
kid that she was harassing, just went off in the
game or didn't. Maybe she didn't like how he played.

(11:47):
Yeahwell Howell lost to Wall, so maybe she didn't like
how he played. But look, this is just what happens
when the competitive juices start flowing and everyone has the
image of Tim McGraw and Friday Night Light talked about
him earlier earlier on in this season of Go Fight, Win,
in the portrayal he had of a Billingsley's dad. But

(12:09):
it's not just the dads, it's the moms. Those team
moms can get fiery. You know. They donated a lot
to that booster club, that touchdown club, that quarterback club.
They're getting all the high school football pregame meals catered in.
I don't know if this is the case here, but hey,
I hope she didn't hurt the kid or anything. But

(12:31):
I'm just saying the source of this passion in this
juice sometimes it just comes from a deep seated desire
to win. And even in New Jersey right like we
talk about Texas high school football, Pennsylvania high school football
is tough and competitive, but they want to win up
there in New Jersey too. So I hope everyone's okay.

(12:55):
I hope this player can bounce back from that. There
aren't many things that are more humiliating than getting chewed
out by a fifty three year old woman that you
may or may not know. But all the best to
this kid, and hopefully it's just a big old misunderstanding
and everybody comes out of this all right, and there
are more victories to be had for both sides. I

(13:16):
hope we can all learn a lesson from this. You know,
no matter how old you are, whether you're a man
or a woman, you can't be on the field just
chewing out seventeen year old kids. All right. Here's a
cool story out of connecticutctinsider dot com tells the story
of Brian Mazzoni, who has a white birch tree that
overlooks his high school football field. And it's not just

(13:36):
Eddie birch tree. This is a Dakota Pinnacle Asian whitebirch
tree that honors his late father, Gary, who passed away
five years ago in a plane crash. He was in
a World War Two era B seventeen bomber that crashed.
I guess daring an air show. And Gary served in
the Vernon Police Department for twenty two years, retired in

(13:57):
nineteen ninety eight, but then was selected to attend and
graduate from the FBI National Academy. Served for twenty years
after that, and he always wanted to be a forest ranger.
Mazzoni said, We went and got a he went and
got a degree in forestry from Paul Smith College. We
jokingly called him nature Boy because he loved nature. Whoa

(14:19):
And when he died, someone asked, would you like a
tree planet? And I said, you guys, do what you want,
that would be cool. Well, they wanted to do it
in twenty nineteen. The athletic director wanted to get it done,
but then COVID happened, and not long after that a
tree fell and Damian Frassenelli contacted the parks department and said,
get a birch in there. That was Gary's favorite thing.

(14:41):
They had his number forty four, his badge number, painted
in the end zones after Coach Mazoni led his bulldogs
to a twenty one to seven win three days after
the crash, and they wanted to do something more permanent,
and they got this tree man. There's a plaque that

(15:01):
says planned to honor Gary Mazzoni Forever dedicated to his
family and service to others, Big garret number forty four.
They've got a permanent way to honor him. Coach doesn't
have a place to go visit other than that he's
not buried anywhere, So that's where I go it's what
coach said. And not only that, the players gather every
Thursday after practice to give each other team awards, talk

(15:24):
about their games, and it's really just a beautiful thing.
I love when ads. I love when players just they
embrace the opportunity to help their coaches. It's such a
selfless job. And obviously this is a tragic story, but
a beautiful thing coming out of it. To me, going

(15:45):
to visit the tree on Thursdays is a heartwarming thing
to do to show our support for coach and think
of his father. We know his father is watching us.
Way to go, Big Geyer, Way to go. Coach. Mazzoni
is number one on Stafford's football win list, has a
fifty eight to thirty one record, and led the Bulldogs
to the Class S playoffs for four straight years from
twenty sixteen to twenty nineteen. I hope they can get

(16:07):
back up and running again. And I'm glad to see
this story here, all the high school football stories you love.
This is what go Fight Win is all about. Coming
up a legend in high school football, Lord Noel Divine.
If you never saw his high school football highlight reel,
well you missed out. Talking about the greatest, the guy

(16:29):
who started an entire industry, maybe Noel Divine coming up next.
So nowadays you kind of take for granted the huddle tapes,
the high school football highlight reels that guys put out
and get recruited and everything. But I'll tell you that
Noel Divine is the guy that I think helps start

(16:52):
this industry because his highlights were so electric. I remember
when I was in high school, there was this buzz
about this high school football player out of North Fort
Myers High School, same place that Dion Sanders and Javon
Curse went, not at the same time. He's a little
younger than those guys. But if you watched his film.

(17:15):
In two thousand and six, when Noel Devine became the
all time leading rusher in yards for Lee County, he
surpassed Mariner High School student in Tampa Bay running back
Ernest Graham against Graham's alma mater, and that's when Divine
broke the record scored a ninety five yard touchdown. He

(17:37):
finished his high school career with ninety two touchdowns, which
was another Lee County record. He went on to the
US Army All American Bowl Game, took a kickoff back
eighty eight yards before falling just short of the end zone,
and became the number three ranked running back and number
six prospect overall according to ESPN. Those accolades are great,

(18:01):
but his high school football highlight reel is the thing
that will go down in history. You know, I'm looking
back at some historic moments in high school football throughout
this season as well. You know, we talked about the
Plano East comeback game and what that meant for high

(18:22):
school football, how it inspired so many people, including myself
as one of just these great stories of comebacks and
being resilient, only to see it fall short. But I
guess there were just two elite comebacks in that game.
But speaking of elite, Noel Divine isn't a class of
his own. We take it for granted, and we really do.

(18:43):
We see four and five star guys having their having
their moments and seeing what they can do as we
look them up and see, all right, is he going
to go to my school? Is he going to get
you know, bought out in some nil packaged by somebody else.
But Noel Divine started it all man, and he was
the lone ranger. He was the only highlight reel you

(19:05):
could watch. We'd gather up in the computer lab at
high school, at our high school and pull up YouTube.
It's pretty new then too, and just watch this cat run. Man,
it was insane. He had one two hundred and eighty
nine yards and twenty three touchdowns on two hundred and
six carries for an average of six point three yards

(19:26):
as a sophomore. One of his most impressive games as
a sophomore, and a sixty three to seven win over
a Stero High divine rush for three hundred and sixty
five yards and six touchdowns on only nine carries. And
that was the power of the internet era. You used
to only be able to hear about these stories, these legends.

(19:50):
But all of a sudden there was this awakening, this dawn,
A video of people uploading it then shout out, that's
the thing. No one credits whoever was running his team
teams media department. It was probably just some kid on
a set of sticks on a tripod with some old camcorder,
who thought, you know what this kid is doing really well,

(20:11):
Not only should we send these tapes to coaches, let's
put them on YouTube dot com. What an idea, powerful,
powerful stuff. That's what I want to know more about
who decided to put Noel Divines highlight reel on the internet.
That person is as much of a legend as Divine is,
because it started a domino effect. Once he did it,

(20:33):
everybody else thought they were as good, and spoiler alert
for you, you weren't. Still holds up going to link
his highlight reel in this show's descriptions so you can
enjoy it as well. Y'all have a great weekend. Hope
your team wins. Hope you don't get your players suspended
and only have to play with eleven players, but if
you do, you might actually win. Sending these stories, share

(20:57):
it with the people that you know who love high
school sports or coach it. Let me know what I
need to be talking about. Tag me at Go Coffeetown
at West Underscore Endship every Friday night. If you see
an absurd moment or something crazy going on on a
high school football field, I want to know about it.
I want to talk about it. I want to share it.
You'all have a great weekend. Go fight, win,
