we need a couple to play. My whe He was like, oh,

He's like, man, I'll get them to play. And so

Always I grew up fishing, you know, that was like

because it was in COVID.

We didn't work for a long time, early two years
or something, and so I guess from not being creative

You're like, I got to make some money, So I
got to make some fishing.

Lord. Yeah it was a creative outlet, but you know,
I didn't have a plan for it. And then you know,
like back in the day, I was like lay in
bed and like songs maybe pop in my head and stuff.
You know, I can't sleep and for some reason out
of nowhere, like Lure Designs. I lay in bed, it
can't sleep in Lure design start popping into my head

like a bunch like every night.

Weird, right, and I mean not really not too well?

Sometimes at fishing a whole lot too.

But it was like so specifical little things, you know,
And so I hit up my buddy it was my
partner now, and because he had a lot of people
in the industry and stuff, and I just want to
design something for somebody else. Like I was like, hey,
I know you work with some people. I was like,
I got some designs I drew down that I was
like almost dreaming about.

And uh.

I was like, I don't want no money and my name.
I just want to said I did it, yeah, And
uh He's like, all the hell with that, We'll start
our own company. And he's like uh. I was like,
all you know, you know what you're doing. He's like, nope,
do you I said, hell no, And so uh there
we go. Man. I started working on that whole body
frog and that took me most of COVID did all

the design and everything.

Then like a year two years later we launched, been
full of sin ever since then.

I mean, yeah, I'm in East Texas, so there's a
lot of that, you know action, but I don't know
if this is my jam?

Was that the first one you thought, like, the first
one you dreamt up or whatever it was.

It was the first thing that I could identify that
I had a major issue with other products on the market, Like,
it was the one that I was like, man, I
really feel like I can make this better.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
Okay, tell me why I had an issue with it
you and don't want to know how you made it better.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Yeah, So on that product or just in general, I
never you know, to a frog a lot, and there
was nothing that I loved about it all of them.
There would be one I love. The action on the
hookup was terrible. Maybe one had good hookup, but it's
like not durable actions, terrible little things like that.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
That's something of frogs I've always found is like I've
always placement. I've always had to manipulate the hook.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
Yeah that's out, and you don't want to do that.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
You know, you don't want to you don't want to
have to do that, you know what I'm saying, because
then you're messing with the hook. That's integrity of the hook.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
You're saying. You had to like bend like you don't know,
because most of those hollo most of those frog hooks
are are down halfway up on the body.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
That's right, because you're expecting is that fish to come
from behind eat down on his and then you're ripping
it back in those hooks.

Speaker 1 (29:02):
Those twos are coming through the you know list.

Speaker 4 (29:05):
So where mine sets on top of the body, which
is kind of hard to do. You have to kind
of manipulate some things inside to make it not dig
in and rip the frog open. That's a big deal
because you get like more material out of the way
because if you think you know you got you got
it halfway on that body, that's a lot of material, a.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
Lot of rubber too. And it's not always you know
what I mean.

Speaker 4 (29:23):
And there's even like deviations in each you know, if
you had one hundred of them, they're going to be
just a tiny bit different. Like in the manufacturing process,
there's always a percentage of error.

You trying to consistent Frog. It was just better.

Speaker 4 (29:35):
There's a lot of things like action, leg placement, water
intake and then you know, the hook up ratio and
all those things. Like we're just different design features that
I was kind of working on to make it. And
you know, at the end of the day, I made
the perfect one for me and it's my favorite.

And so we were like launched. I was like, man,
people are gonna think this is really stupid that I'm.

Speaker 5 (29:57):
Doing this, you know.

And then uh so we didn't even know it, just
kind of did it on a whim. And then like
we sold out and then like people were like, oh,
this is really legit, and so we just kept going
with different products and stuff like that.

I mean, now you guys, you got what Lee Levesey
is he is? He is he using your product?

Oh well, his funds are buying a big brand, so
you know, he doesn't use him on tour and stuff.
But we fished together those stuff around.

Yeah. Oh, I don't know what it feels like to
take the first prototype that you designed and and and
hit have a fish hit.

Yeah, that's got to feel good kind.

It's like the type and throw it out there because
you don't know, you know, it's it's fish where you're at.
I was at a pond, so like the best place
to initially test stuff is a pond or a private
like because you know you can just go whack out
some real quick.

Sure you know what I mean, before you move on
to a lake.

You know, you go to a lake, you know, it
have to be a certain time of year maybe, and
things like that, and there's so many different things. Maybe
they're on a craig bait today. You know, pond, it's
really easier private. Let you just go because you're trying
to catch as many can, so always start out somewhere
you can just jack them.

Makes a lot of sense.

And uh so I throw it out there in the action.
I was like, oh ship. I was like, this is awesome.

my stuff is it's like you're getting this dial in,

his cows came down. So that's like if their cows

right where the cows come out in between these two trees,
and I was like eight.

like from the records, even though they sound completely different

But at the same time, when you start trying to

you got to get in there and play and be creative.

a dad and put your kids bed and freaking fish

But the first records, though, we just had no idea
what we were doing and we were just kids. There's
something magic about that. There is absolutely you can't ever
recreate youth.

Is that funny, man, You never you don't realize. We
talk about it all the time. We're like, what did
we do with all our time? We thought we were busy,
like and we had so much time to like figure

We had dinner with Renelle and his wife of the night,
and she was talking about therapy and she was like,
you know, you should really look at the therapy and

if they're not, I don't know when I would be

But like you know, I was put one on retainer.
Too busy cooking eggs and change the dippers the same

Who are Who are some of those biggest influences growing up?

Now? You know? Who do you? Who do you are?

Kind of all over the bands, we're all kind of
sitting stone with the same stuff, but we're all kind
of like I can speak for myself. My family is
all like classic rock and roll. So I grew up
on you know, Zeppelin and all severyone. You know, Stevie
didn't even He's in a different realm for me actually,
but I grew up on that. You know, led Zepplin's

always my favorite band, and then you throw in country
from Cody stuff, you know. For me, like growing up,
it was definitely like country Kinnard and Junior from my
parents and Alan Jackson, stuff like that that would have
been on the radio at that time. And then you
had from that.

They would also listen to skinnerd and Marsh Tucker Band
sure a little bit brother stuff like that. So at
a younger age it was that maybe little Stones, and then.

Cody Tate was like Bill.

We call him Bill because there's too many Cody's Bill
was like little Feet, so you can see so you can.

See now that's like my favorite van kind of go

And I always think about what do I listen to

I think a little bit I felt like those bands
at the time they were making Bro, they were just

feel that, man, it's crazy. You can also feel that

were your influences because the record, the record is it out,

rock out there, and it's not. I don't feel like
it's influenced by bad Yeah, I feel like it's influenced
more about like a Crows and always back at the blues,

So I find like, and I think we're all like this,
and I think that's why our band sounds the way
it does is like and this. I think this is
everybody but speaking from my point of view, so I
always find myself gravitating towards bands that were that had
like not just one like you know sound so like

Skinnered is heavily influenced. You know, they're a rock and
roll band, but they're heavy, heavily. They have like country influences,
the blues, rolling Stones, super like wild Horses, like those
one of the best country songs ever, Dead Flowers. So
they have all those influences, little feet and stuff like that.
And I think that's why we sound the way we
do when we kind of go for whatever genre we

want to. And I think it's because you know, Tom Petty,
same thing. And it's like I always gravitate to the
people that kind of have different influences the spectrum in
their music.

And it makes music good. You know, I don't like genres.

like you love what you do, but you're just kind

uh the commercial label thing, to stay independent, to do
it your own way?

I don't know, you know, we never set out to
be like what you would say, like famous or on
TV or something like that. For us, it was all
about like playing music, and like we did it the
old school way, Like we just went and played like
every bar, you know what I mean. Like we never
thought about we never chased singles and stuff.

Probably just probably in an effort to keep our music
authentic and to be a band that can do like
we're gonna go make a record is we don't know
what it's gonna sound like. We don't give a shit,

I don't know if you could do that if you
if you had a record deal or something like that,
but we always it was really important, I feel like,
to keep the integrity of our vision sure well, which

you up to play like fifteen minute songs on stage

I think it was just to keep the integrity of
your music. Because I think it would have been hard
if we ever went that path, that our music at

really only cared about playing music together and the music itself.
We weren't looking for any sort of accolades. I think

not all people are musicians are like that. I think
a lot of them are looking for the screen time
and the praise and stuff. And it sounds like not real,
but that's like true, Like that's just how we always were.
We were just like this band that we're just a
juke joint band, man, like yeah, and we just we
just went out there and played like every honkey talk

in Texas, you know, starting out like we just hit
the We booked it shows ourselves for a while and
stuff like. It was that like old school pound the pavement.
There wasn't some big crazy playing, you know.

It wasn't like, oh, we're gonna be rock stars and
it's like that we're just doing it.

Going to prison or something.

We weren't gonna be doctors when we couldn't make it

It comes from the you know, we had a bunch
of had a bunch of different names and stuff wrote down,
and we were talking about it with the artwork people
and used to going through different ideas.

This album was probably.

Speaker 4 (01:10:35):
The first one is like didn't have like a specific name,
you know. It's like, oh, this album is this name,
you know, even before the record is done, or at
least during the processing. I don't know, I got like
ten names or something, you know. And uh then I
was just like, for some reason, they're talking about artwork
and ship and I was just like looking at words

(01:10:59):
on my phone at the style, and I seen like
and then those days kind of glowed at me.

Speaker 5 (01:11:03):
It was like I was in the Dougies and it
was like warm.

Speaker 4 (01:11:06):
Wack thunder and I just said it just joking, and
they're like, I really like that, and I was like.

Speaker 6 (01:11:13):
Really, it was like no, and I was like, yeah, dude,
this is like I was just saying word dookie and
you remember dookie.

Speaker 1 (01:11:21):
Yeah, And I was like, remember, everybody's gonna be like,
what the hell does that mean? And I was like okay,
And then we kind of were leaning towards that.

Speaker 5 (01:11:29):
And then Jamie we.

Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
Were watching up what's that documentary dude about what the
Life and hard Times? It got terrifical? Have you ever
seen that?

Speaker 3 (01:11:45):
What's it on?

Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
Nothing? I don't think can we? Can you even TV? Dude?
Got terrific hard time?

Speaker 3 (01:11:55):
Gotta watch it all right?

Speaker 1 (01:11:57):
Anyway, so we're watching that came here. I was, yeah,
Merl Hagger's in it.

Speaker 4 (01:12:02):
Ham Like, there's so many people in it, and it's
like it's a mockumentary, this cat from Canada that ends
up being this folk singer and it's hilarious.

Speaker 3 (01:12:11):
Gotcha.

Speaker 4 (01:12:13):
But there's the part with the kids standing in the
trailer house with the little thing, and Jamie like, pulse
it and he was like, that's that should be that
weren't working. I was like, oh, that's wamped black Thunder and.

Speaker 5 (01:12:26):
It was like was in it to me? I was
kind of I was like, oh, now it makes sense.
It's like the marriage, you know what I mean, kind
of makes sense with you.

Speaker 4 (01:12:35):
But there womped on things and whacked on things and
made thunder's. It was just one of those strange things
you just look at some words for some.

Speaker 2 (01:12:48):
Kind of doesn't know nothing about nothing, and there's words
in there that gets with that little kid dreaming, you know,
just yes, I wanted to be the Superman.

Speaker 1 (01:12:57):
Yes, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:12:58):
You know, it's music and create if stuff's weird like that,
because it just comes from somewhere else. Like those words
were just there's like a hundred words I don't even know.
And they weren't even next to each other really, I
mean they kind of were, but they were just yeah,
and I don't I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:13:12):
You know, it's like that with songs too. I don't know,
it just happens to be. Petty used to do that.

Speaker 4 (01:13:17):
He used to put them up on the talks about
like when he wrote Wild Flowers. It was just a
stream of consciousness, like he just sat down and started
singing an some wild flowers and that was the song
you were recorded, and the like.

Speaker 5 (01:13:36):
Things like that happened a lot.

Speaker 1 (01:13:38):
Yeah, I felt like you do have to recognize when
that when those ideas are up there, go get there has.

Speaker 5 (01:13:44):
To be some sort of intentive thing going on.

Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
Otherwise they'll just float on to somebody else. It is weird.
We were getting weird.

Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
