Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Good Game with Sarah Spain, where we're hoping
our favorite sports girlies skip the Nicki Minaj stiletto trend.
A Russian influencer broke her spine trying to pull it off.
We don't need to see any baller sit in the
ir for a TikTok trend. It's Monday, August eleventh, and
on today's show, we'll be chatting with Washington Spirit goalkeeper
Aubrey Kingsbury about the forwards who strike the most fear
(00:22):
in her heart, her goals for the second half of
the NWSL season, and life as a twin plus a
footy player and a hooper set new records, the pwhl
SE's its highest single season salary ever, and the Northern
Super League's hitting the big screen.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
It's all coming up right after this Welcome back slices,
Happy Monday.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Here's what you need to know today in NWSL news.
Kansas City current forward teen with Shawinga, is lighting it up, y'all.
She's now the fastest player in NWSL history to score
thirty goals in the regular season. She hit that benchmark
in just forty games, shattering the previous record held by
Kristin Press, who netted thirty and fifty one games Showinga's
(01:13):
record breaking score came in the Currents one zier win
over the Utah Royals on Friday Showenga also set the
single season scoring record last year with twenty goals, and
she's got ten so far this season with eleven games
left to play, so we'll be keeping an eye on
her meantime. The biggest game of the NWSL's rivalry weekend,
the Portland Thorns hosting the Seattle Rain on Sunday, went
(01:34):
to the home team, Portland getting the win four to
two and bragging rights With the victory. Portland also keeps
its home unbeaten streak alive. The Thorns have seven wins,
four draws, and four losses overall, but haven't yet lost
a home game. That Cascadia rivalry game also saw an
NWSL wide season high attendance figure, as twenty one eight
(01:56):
hundred eleven people packed Providence Park to watch the game.
More on WSL and an update to the firing of
North Carolina head coach Sean Nahas, which we discussed in
depth on Friday Show. You'll remember that following Nahas's abrupt firing,
Wednesday night, which the club announced in a terse two
sentence statement. The Courage held a contentious press conference on
(02:17):
Thursday in which they cited a quote unquote multitude of
factors thirteen times in reference to Nahas's dismissal. While following
North Carolina's two to one loss to the Houston Dash
on Friday night, the team offered a bit more clarity
in a statement. The team said Najas was fired due
to quote confounding performance issues, culture issues, and a perceived
(02:39):
lack of fit that created an environment that club leadership
felt was untenable to the point that change was necessary
at the head coaching position end quote. ESPN's Jeff Gosoof
also reported that, per sources, there is no current.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Investigation into Nahas.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Following Friday night's game, North Carolina captain Deniso Sullivan told
the media that it was quote definitely a tough week
for the team end quote, and that she was personally
shocked by the decision. O'Sullivan continued, quote, It's been a
roller coaster of a week, but we have to move
on now as a group, and we have to look
towards the game next week, and we got to continue
to stick by each other and help each other through it.
(03:16):
I fully believe we're still a playoff team.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
End quote.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Over to the WNBA, where Phoenix Mercury superstar Alyssa Thomas
made some history Thursday night, becoming the first player in
league history to nottch three straight triple doubles. Thomas tallied
eighteen points, eleven rebounds, and ten assists in the Mercury's
ninety five to sixty win over the Indiana Fever Thursday
to achieve the feat in three straight games. She's no
stranger to a triple double. The twelve year Vet has
(03:41):
nineteen in her career. No other player has more than four.
In that same contest, Thomas's fiance and teammate do Wanta
Bonner went off. It was her first game against the
Fever team that she started the season with, and she
scored twenty three points and snagged seven rebounds in just
twenty three minutes. Picked her up in early July, Bonners
(04:01):
averaging eleven and a half points per game. That's up
four points from her average with the Fever. More from
that matchup and the Fever's ongoing injury woes. Friend of
the Show Sidney Colson went down in the first quarter
of the game, and the team later revealed that she
tore her left acl Then in the fourth quarter, fellow
point guard Aery MacDonald broke a bone in her right foot.
(04:23):
Both of those players now done for the season. The
Fever have battled injuries all season, including starguard Caitlin Clark
missing more than half the team's games so far with
quad and groin injuries. Clark is still sidelined, with no
timetable for her return, and with no remaining healthy point
guards on the roster. The Fever announced Sunday afternoon that
the team had signed Odyssey Simms to a hardship contract,
(04:45):
a role Simms is very familiar with. During her eleven
year WNBA career, she's played for six different teams, and
per the Folks over and across the timeline, Simms has
signed more WNBA contracts in June or later than any
other WNBA player in the last five years, thirteen contract
signings in total. We'll see how Steph White and the
(05:05):
fifth ranked Fever adjust with thirteen games left in the
regular season. More w couple standout performances over the weekend
worth giving a shout to Asia Wilson put up twenty
nine points on her twenty ninth birthday on Friday to
lead the Las Vegas Aces against the Seattle Storm ninety
to eighty six. Storm rookie Dominique Malonga had season highs
(05:26):
in that one with twenty two points and twelve rebounds
in the loss. Britney Sykes also had fourteen points off
the bench in that game, her first with Seattle after
being traded by the Washington Mystics. The game was the
Aces fortieth straight sellout that's a WNBA record. On Saturday,
Kelsey Mitchell scored twenty six points to lead the Fever
past the Chicago Sky ninety two to seventy. Chicago was
(05:49):
without Angel Reese for a fifth straight game as she
nurses a back injury. Reese has only played twice since
the All Star Break. No timetable for her return, and
also DJ Carrington fitting right in with her new Minnesota
Links teammates Since getting traded to Many from the Dallas
Wings last Sunday, Carrington has teamed up with stud Buds
and Links guards Courtney Williams and na Tisha Heideman, donning
(06:11):
pink hair and dubbing herself the quote unquote fem bud
here she is talking about the trios bond in a
media scrum on Thursday.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
It's great and I've loved that we've continued to have
this close relationship even on different teams. Courtney and I
we actually met in the Au and twenty twenty two
whatever the first you Do was, and then that year
she came back to Connecticut, so Tea was already there
and we've just continued to cross in this relationship since then.
And I told them I'm the fem bud with.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
It's not their same.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Color, but yeah, we're we're locked in for It's.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Been great, gotta love it.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Speaking of Dallas Wings, forward Mayisha Heinz Allen addressed fans
in the stands after her team's eighty eight seventy seven
loss to the New York Liberty Friday night, asking fans
not to criticized head coach Chris Coklanis during games.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Take a listen here house. Yeah, we're not playing that.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
We play.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Oh we need the.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
Fans and support it.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
We do not apporting us though, because at the end
of the day, Chris is still our head Pope forgot
we still needed we.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
Got you, so we got we got thank you, thank you,
thank you Now.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Coclanis hasn't been a fan favorite this year, and understandably so.
The Wings are currently ranked second to last in the
league with an eight and twenty three record and have
lost four in a row. Heinz Allen makes a good point, though,
while he's still the head coach, it doesn't help him
or the team to hear it from fans during the
game even more hoops. On Sunday, four time w NBA
(07:45):
All Star TARRII Phillips was inducted into the New York
Liberties Ring of Honor as part of the team's fifth
annual Legends Weekend, celebrating the contributions of past and present players.
Phillips helped lead the Libs to two Eastern Conference titles
and w NBA Finals appearance in two thousand and two
thousand and two, she finished her Liberty career with one
thousand and seventy seven rebounds, a franchise record that stood
(08:07):
for thirteen years until Tina Charles passed it in twenty seventeen.
An Phillips remains in the Liberties all time top ten
in multiple categories. Minnesota Links beat the Liberty in that
game eighty three seventy one, the first of three straight
meetings between the league's top two teams, headed out Wes
for some more w news. At tonight's game against the
Connecticut Sun, the Golden State Valkyries are hosting what they're
(08:29):
calling bird Watchers Night Now. This theme night comes after
a large mysterious valkyrie violet colored egg with gold speckles
on it, appeared outside Chase Center on Thursday morning. It
was seated atop a small bed of violet feathers in
Thrive City, the community gathering space at the arena, per
a team release. Wildlife management expert Kenny Alvin quote unquote
(08:51):
evaluated the egg and has no idea where it came
from or what's inside. The egg has been moved into
Chase Center, where it now rests inside and new waiting,
presumably for tonight's Birdwatchers Night. Now slices this has all
the makings of an awesome mascot reveal. Now, I could
be wrong, but it's LAO season and I'm an expert
(09:13):
at doing too much and seeking attention, both of which
these are, so I.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Don't actually think I can be wrong.
Speaker 1 (09:19):

megan hall linking a crypto company to, the incidents reporting
that they were. Taking credit frind of, The Show ben

Speaker 2 (12:09):
As well he actually.
Speaker 1 (12:10):

Speaker 2 (12:53):
Crypto culture.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
End quote, ben, continues, writing quote it APPEARS the wnba
and its athletes are central to the joke in spite of,
their objections and the conversation about the disruptions has created
opportunities for detractors of women's basketball to mock the league

Speaker 2 (13:09):

Got to take a quick break when we. Come back
my Conversation With. AUBREY kingsbury i caught up with her
last week AHEAD of nwsl. Rivalry weekend that's next.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Joining. Us now she's a goalkeeper For The washington spirit OF.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
THE nwsl a Two TIMES I'm nwsl goalkeeper Of, the

TWENTY one nwsl. CHAMPIONSHIP Win A wake forest grad and
a Three Time, All american she's earned two caps WITH
the us women's, national team and her professional career has
taken Her, To, norway Denmark and australia in addition TO several.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Nwsl stops we Both Love costa Rica.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
And coldplay i'm jealous of her travels to bamf and
her trip to See the, savannah BANANAS and i want
a taste test her.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Homemade Cookies It's. Aubrey, Kingsbury, hi aubrey.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
Thank you. Thank you well Rounded.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Introduction, therecate, Yes yes i'm actually also jealous of Playing
in Denmark and Norway. And, AUSTRALIA like i just think
working in another country would be such a cool thing.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
To do, so yeah it was quite. The experience some
places were better, than others, but yeah definitely.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Very unique you're back from a pretty. Lengthy BREAK the
nwsl has just gotten. Back underway how did you spend
any time off that you were given and is it
been hard to ramp?
Speaker 5 (15:55):
Back up the.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Club was extra generous, this year so they gave us two,
weeks off which is very rare for people who don't
understand the sports world, in season like you have. No
LIFE so i went with my Husband to canada and
visited my Cousin In, vancouver island which was a beautiful
part of, the world and then we Headed To Banff.
(16:17):
National PARK as, i said so. Jelly, hiking yeah definitely.
Recommend it just beautiful nature. Out, there yeah. So serene
the lakes are this just blue that you've never. Seen
before it's.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Really pretty y'all are enjoying a great season so far
eight two and four tied With The orlando pride for
second most points as of today when we, Record this
plus you just earned save of. The week so what's
been the secret to staying near the top of.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
The table, recent.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
Years we've just kind of had a bit of, a
rebrand like off the, field obviously but even on a
mongst the club with our staff just bringing in, new
coaches new, performance staff bring in a ton of, new
players and we've kind of elevated our game in all.
Different Levels so i'd say in, the Past The washington
(17:05):
spirit were very much all over. The place you didn't
know who was going to show up on, game day
if it was going to be a good team or a.
Bad team but we've put the right pieces in place
where now we kind of know what to expect and
it's a sustainable model and we've only continued to. Get
BETTER so i think it's, taken time but progressively we've
(17:29):
all learned how to play cohesively and just created a
better brand.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
Of football it's especially Impressive With trinity rodman missing so
much time to be able to find that consistency. Without
her but we loved seeing her come back game, winning
goal storybook stuff in. Closing minutes so what does it
mean for the team to have?
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Her back, Oh, man yeah that was the, perfect. Reintroduction
right trend's a, great player obviously everyone, knows that but
you may. NOT know, i mean you can, probably guess
but she's a great teammate and a great personality to
have in the. Locker room, she's funny, she's bubbly so.
In trends at, her best she just makes everyone else around.
(18:10):
Her better so it's been great to. Have her we
were definitely, missed her but, we're just, you know glad
that she could get back. On track as Long as
i've been teammates, with her she's had the lingering back
issues and has pushed through so much and has dealt
with adversity and every aspect of. Her life so for
her to come, back renewed refreshed and be able, to
(18:33):
recommit we're just really excited to have. Her back and
obviously she's off to a great.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
Start, again yeah quite a moment in front of the
home crowd at the beginning of. The season your team
Won The challenge cup Defeating The orlando pride and penalties
a little bit of revenge for last year's championship, game
defeat but obviously doesn't feel as good as winning the whole.
Damn thing so what needs to improve or change to
go from runners up to winners?
Speaker 2 (18:57):
This?
Speaker 4 (18:57):
Year yeah the main thing to win the playoffs is
honestly just peaking at the. Right time like the season
is such, a grind it's, a marathon so just you
got to put yourself in a. Good position, of course
it helps to finish in the top two or four
so you can get those home. Playoff games, but yeah
(19:17):
when it comes down to, the final it's really just
who has, the grint the better game plan and can
execute on. That day so there wasn't much separating Us
between orlando and last year's final or in This Year's
challenge cup going to, penalty kicks but it's just who
can make the big plays in the. Big moments so
(19:39):
hopefully when it comes down, to it you know we
can execute in.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Those moments let's go Back to may second of.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
This year you WERE named nwsl goalkeeper Of, the month
and that very same day you were benched in Favor
of sandy mckiver For the spirits Match With. Angel city
this is sort of a rare occasion for you watching from,
The bench so how do you sort of handle those
highs and lows or maybe sort of the irony of
that moment of goalkeeper of the month and then you're
not Playing.
Speaker 4 (20:04):
Right yeah that was. Pretty ironic, you know we want
to develop the, entire team and AT times i haven't
necessarily been challenged as a. Starting keeper so It's like
i've played at times with like two, broken FINGERS and
I wish i could have maybe not, played her that
we had someone that they felt confident. Putting in but it, Was,
(20:27):
Like okay aubrey will take you at fifty. Percent today
but as we look to progress our team and bringing
other people to raise just the level of our, Goalkeeping
corps We've Signed sandy mackaiver this year, and yeah she's a.
Great goalkeeper she's young and has definitely a promising, career
ahead and the coaches had communicated with me in advance
(20:49):
that they wanted to get her. Some time And although
i'm a competitor and never want to miss, A minute
i could understand their reasoning, and, say yeah it hurt
a little bit to sit on, the bench but YOU
know i was there to support my teammates and DO
whatever i could in the ROLE that i was asked
to play for.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
That, game yeah for the good of, the team and like,
you said in case of injury or something, coming up
to have those minutes for her to feel comfortable having been.
In there you've been a pro since, twenty fourteen your
five hundred and twenty saves and counting our fourth most in.
League history what's the biggest difference Between the aubrey between
the pipes now and back in, twenty fourteen either physically
(21:30):
or mentally.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
OR both.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
I made some really crazy saves in my first years in,
the league and they look, you know spectacular or Just,
LIKE lettock i don't. Know, Whatever uh BUT then i
watch them Now and, i'm like oh, my gosh what shocking?
Decision making LIKE so.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
I was out of possession, and yeah something crazy. To
me yeah It.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
Looked no that's exactly what. It Is and, i'll like
WHAT was? I doing so just, like Appalled but, I'm,
like okay you bailed. Yourself out good, For you but
that's kind of what it. Is goalkeepers the longer, you
play the more scenarios. You've seen that increases your ability
(22:17):
to read the game. And ANTICIPATE and i don't rely
on my athleticism as. Much ANYMORE usually i make. Better
decisions i'm in, better POSITIONS so i don't have to
really bail. Myself out so some people may, think, like,
oh yeah we haven't seen the you know world, these
saves but That's because i'm not making some ridiculous mistakes in.
(22:39):
My positioning, BUT yeah i think just consistency has been
the key to my game and developing over. The years what?
Speaker 1 (22:48):
About mentally goalkeeper is such a tough position because you
have to be so confident in there and you can't
let it get to you if you do make. A
mistake even if you make every, single save if you
miss one that could be. The game when you, were
younger did you struggle more With that and is that
something you've worked on as you've.
Speaker 4 (23:04):
Gotten, older yeah it's something you always have to continue to.
Work on but, you know goalkeepers are wired a little,
bit DIFFERENTLY and I think i've always enjoyed the pressure
and had this BELIEF that i rise in. The pressure
and so that's. One THING like i love penali shootouts
because they totally favor. The kickers but it's your one
(23:26):
moment to really shine and to be the hero as.
The keeper, but yeah. It's tough you're kind of alone,
out there and like, you said if you make, a
mistake there's really no one behind you to bail. You,
out yeah it usually results in, A goal so you
kind of like build up that mental muscle as you
(23:47):
get older and make mistakes and learn. From it it's
just how quickly can you learn the lesson whatever it
may be and put it, behind you because if you're dwelling,
on it you're just gonna make more mistakes and can't
be present to help your team.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
At all there's an incredible game day Vibe At.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Audi field it's just like crazy to see.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
From afar how different does it feel when you start
a game at home and you take position and look
around and feel that energy versus when you're on.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
The road, oh yeah like, you said it's it's the best.
Feeling ever. You know, It's like i'll compare it to
like your wedding when you're just surrounded by all your
people and you know they all believe, in you they're cheering,
for you and it's like it's. About you so if
you go to, another stadium it may, be full but
they're not there. For you they're there for the. Other
(24:41):
teams so it still feels exciting to have a full
stadium and just that energy and really feel like this is, you,
know entertaining this, Is important like, you know we're about
to go, to battle so ANY crowd, I welcome but like,
you said we call It, Rowdy audi, and yeah it
definitely brings us to a new level and really yeah motivates.
(25:06):
Us PLAYERS and i can see the difference in. MY
teammates i don't have to run, as MUCH so i
don't need that extra like. Physical oomph but especially, this
summer it's it's hot, over here so having the fans teer,
US on i think it really gives the team the
extra legs to keep going when.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
It's hard there's a lot of different theme days at.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
The park i'm wondering about which one's the best from your.
Vantage point like there's, you know bark at.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
The park We.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
Got, pride days We got. June TEENTH like, i know
you shouldn't be letting your. Mind wander you're focusing on
the game and what's developing in front. Of you but
maybe there's a break and you're. Looking around which one
do you enjoy?
Speaker 2 (25:46):
The, most hmm.
Speaker 4 (25:48):
GOOD question i like when all the fans are like
wearing the, same thing whether that's a wide out, OR
blackout i think that's. The coolest pops At the park
is a fun one because you get to see all.
The puppies but they've definitely gotten better with that one
in the past years because there used to be like
fireworks and all the dogs would just, be marking not
(26:10):
during the whole time or, but Yeah they're they're all
a lot. Of FUN but i think it's cool when
the whole stadium looks united in.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Some Way chicago stars just had dogs at the park
day and there were lots of reports of dogs peeing
on the FIELD and i couldn't get confirmation if it
was before or after. THE game i felt like that
should have been something that they. ACCOUNTED for i don't
think that's the best for the are putting their.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Work in yeah you got. To pay where did they
pee on?
Speaker 4 (26:36):
The, field.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
Yeah EXACTLY so i read about you doing an off
season apprenticeship at. A bakery you have dreams of opening
a bakery when your career's done with your. Twin Sisters
so i'm wondering if the apprenticeship affirmed those dreams or
made you maybe. Question, Them sadly i'm questioning.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Them, a BIT but i guess it's a good thing
BECAUSE now I know i'm more like realistically what it
would look like the one of our spirit executives connected
me with a small business owner here in, the COMMUNITY
and i went in bright. And early she starts baking
around LIKE, three AM so i went in and kind
of just got right, to it helping to bake what
(27:17):
she was putting out, that day and then we invited
the community OUT and, I know i helped the cashier
and giving everybody they're, bake goods and we sold out.
Really quick, BUT yeah i just kind of saw how
much work, it is the time, it TAKES but i
still want to. DO it i just definitely SEE that
(27:38):
i would really need my twins help maybe some other
good friends to get, into it, because yeah it's pretty
time consuming in. The hours you definitely are, up early
so this would be all past.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
MY career i was, gonna say that's like the first
thing you said in the Video was i'm not really a.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Morning person, i'm, Like, girl oh you want to own.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
A bakery you know when those open and you know
when they're making those treats very early in.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
The morning so maybe you take the afternoon shift.
Speaker 4 (28:05):
And right right when it takes the.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
MORNING exactly i just remember seeing Bridesmaids And kristin wiggs's
character owns a bakery and.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
It looks like.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
A struggle it just, you know she didn't seem like
a very, efficient HUMAN but i still think it looked
like a struggle regardless of Her, OWN.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
No, i mean you're definitely not going to make a killing, selling,
Cookies right like you can only charge so much for my.
Inside Streets but I'M just i think it'd be cool
to really create somewhere that people can come around the
community and gather. And Connect so i'm more interested, in,
just yeah bringing that to a PLACE that i, care about.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
That's cool what's your favorite thing?
Speaker 4 (28:42):
To, make oh cookies? AND cakes i, would, SAY uh
i definitely. Take Requests so i'm kind of the, birthday
baker and the team really likes a particular chocolate CAKE that.
I Make but i've had to bring that into the
locker room women not really show the staff because a,
(29:02):
couple Times like i've put it out in the kitchen
and we'll go out to train And Then birthday girl
comes back and. It's gone, so yeah it's kind.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Of we're gonna have to label that tuna sandwich or
something in the fridge so that no one. Touches it,
you know you mentioned earlier that goalkeepers are, wired differently
and you do have a twin that apparently is not
only interested in baking like, you are but also is.
A keeper your, Twin, sister amber also played. The position and,
there's actually strangely a number of twins who have made
it to the elite level of, women's soccer whether It's
(29:35):
the Rapinos or Listener Or Emily's sonnets twins, or whatever
but none of them were competing for the, same spot
that goalkeeper spot on.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
The field so what was that like? Growing, up yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
It wasn't it wasn't, very, Smart right we couldn't choose,
different positions but we were both like very well, rounded
athletes and that was kind of the early DAYS where,
i mean maybe still people don't love to be a,
Goal keeper like it can be pretty boring when you're
young and not very involved in. The PLAY but i
think my mom was smart and realizing if we wanted
(30:09):
to play at a, high level that was our. Best
POSITION so I think i was more interested than. My
twin amber was. True story she was bribed to be
a goalkeeper For One oreo blizzard or like one dairy. Queen,
treat uh that's all, it took, you know this. Simple thing,
and yeah she went off to Play At, brown university
(30:31):
got a, great education and she didn't play PRO like.
I did but, FUN fact i have a younger brother
who did play pro as well as.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
A keeper Yeah. She's, louise okay the hands in.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
This, family yeah something something in the Water for.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
But also and again it sounds like there was parental
guidance there that this was a logical and. Smart move
but to your point about goalkeepers being a little, bit different.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
They're usually A little It's. LIKE polville i was a.
Track athlete we're all full vaulters are a little.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Bit different they're throwing their whole ass body on a
giant pole into.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
The air that, might snap they might miss. The, pit
like it's kind.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
Of crazy and a lot of people feel the same
way about choosing to be. A goalkeeper so would you
describe you and your siblings as a.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
Little, Different yeah and.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
All goalkeepers are unique, in themselves but also like pretty
unique from. Each other there's like no two that are.
THE same i have Been told i'm one of the
most normal goalkeepers that people, have MET so i have
to take that as. A compliment, BUT yeah i mean
there's something in, the position like you've got to throw
(31:43):
your face into danger and you're, definitely yeah susceptible to
a lot of crazy injuries.
Speaker 2 (31:49):
And last line, of defense yeahs. Of criticism.
Speaker 1 (31:53):
Yeah yeah tell me about. YOUR twin i want, to,
hear like what ways are you most alike to?
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Each other.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
We. Look alike we have all the, same interests whether, that's,
books hobbies even like taste, and food. Exact same but then,
Personality wise i'm a little. More introverted she's a little.
MORE extroverted i say she's the. Nicer one she really
is one of the sweetest people you'll. Ever, meet yeah
(32:24):
just like always looking out. For, others yeah she's got,
three kids so we live very different. Lives now but
she's a, great mom, super sweet like. Social butterfly, but
yeah she's one of my best friends and it's.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Really, cute yeah that's.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
VERY sweet i can't imagine having twins that have all the.
Same interests that, feels dangerous but you made. It work
what's the goal for the second half here is you're
kind of making this push toward. The postseason either of
you personally are for. The team what's the focus as you.
Speaker 6 (32:56):
Look ahead, right now our main focus is just getting
better game, after game as the second half of the season,
is beginning like the pressure really.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
Ramps up we're getting close, to playoffs and as, a
player you're aware like every, point matters every, game matters
and especially if you have aspirations of winning the league or,
making playoffs like, you, really yeah you can't. Drop points
so for us in the season, Right Now kansas city
(33:27):
is ten. Points ahead they're top of the table and
might be pretty hard. To reach hopefully they can lose
a couple. For us, but yeah the emphasis again is
just on us, and IMPROVING and i think if we focus,
on that the wins will come and hopefully we can find,
ourselves second maybe. EVEN first i would love to win.
(33:50):
The league i've never WON The, nwsl shields so it's definitely.
A goal, But yeah i'll just take it one game at.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
A time you mentioned The current they Just acquired Ali,
sent nor making them. Even better they've got a number
of STRIKERS that i can imagine strike fear in.
Speaker 2 (34:07):
Your heart when they're are on their way.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
Toward you who's the forward or the nine IN the
nwsl that you most dread see on like a breakaway
out front coming.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Towards you.
Speaker 4 (34:20):
That's a tough one because my mind immediately Goes To
sophia smith Or malpw so lucky, For.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
Me i'm currently out of, dangers.
Speaker 4 (34:30):
Here right but it's kind of like the, unconventional ones
like there's there's forwards who are, just unpredictable and whether
that's purposeful, or not those are the harder ONES because
i can't really anticipate what they're going to do or
when they're going, to shoot so it just kind of
(34:50):
messes up. My timing so but basically all of All
Of kansas city to wingas Great. Via, xanorado yeah their
attack is, really Dynamic so i'll just go with The
Whole kansas.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
City, frontline yeah and it's like, bullshit That Like kayla
sharples is. Scoring too IT'S like i can't even just
focus on the forwards, RIGHT there i gotta worry about.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
The defenders everyone, can shoot everyone. Can score RIGHT.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
