Granger reacts to a viral video about fighting temptation, focusing on the battle against pornography and why this struggle has to be treated with the seriousness of a war.

He talks through the weight of sin, the reality that Christ absorbed God’s wrath on our behalf, and the practical steps believers can take to flee temptation. This includes accountability, tools like Covenant Eyes, removing access to triggering content, switching a phone to grayscale, and building spiritual layers of protection.

The conversation highlights the importance of preparing for the fight before temptation shows up and learning to live as a Christian on offense rather than defense.

Speaker 1 (00:03):
Okay, we got another video to react to. I don't
know where you find these.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Well, TikTok. A scroll on TikTok. My algorithm is feeding
me some good content right now.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
I like this, all right, play it.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
The thing about TikTok real quick though, thing about TikTok.
It can be all over the place too. You can
be going along, you can have some great church videos,
you can get some deep theology going along, and then
there's the husband and wife that tell a dirty joke
and then it flips back. It's like, how did that
get in there? That's so random?

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Something I have to do with China. I guess the
title on this all I could see is the title says,
this one habit could change how you fight temptation piqued
your interest yet, Okay, let me hear it here.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
It is. Have you ever been in a situation where
it's like, Okay, I'm watching porn and I feel bad,
and it's like, oh, I probably should just turn this off,
but you decide to just keep on doing it because
it's like I'm already in it. I'm already in it,
so I as well just keep going right, Well, you're
in sin at that point right, But there are things
that you can do even at that stage. I'll give
you one of the ones that I the Lord showed me.

(01:09):
It's like complete, God's merciful. He is merciful, bro. But
I you know, so the Lord gave me this. This
I'm giving you. I'm giving you some real, real stuff.
But there's a point when I was going through my
process where the Lord gave me this idea about creating
essentially what it's called or talk me down video. And
this is for the moments where I don't have the

(01:29):
strength to correct myself. So I'm not in the mindset
to be able to say, you know what, I'm not
gonna do this. I can't pray, I don't want to pray,
I don't want to read my Bible. I'm just not there, right.
But what the Lord showed me was that you don't
have to be there in that moment. You can actually
do something prior to the instance and it'll be just

(01:49):
as powerful as if you were in that space. So
the Lord told me to create what's essentially called a
talk me down video, which is a time where I
am super sober, like in my mind super sober, and
I actually went to the extent of like praying and
like having a really deep time with the Lord before
doing this, And I actually recorded a video of myself

(02:09):
encouraging myself and basically coaching myself out of walking in sin.
So I was literally telling myself, like, Bro, you know
what this is going to lead to. You know what
ends up getting you to this point. I know how
you feel right now. You feel like you just want
to do X, Y or Z. But this is the
reason why you shouldn't do it. Remember, this is what
God has called you to. This is what God has
for you in the future. And if you do it right,

(02:33):
if you allow yourself to literally allow the spirit of
God to like infuse this conversation that you have with yourself.
You put it on your phone and you say you
don't watch it over, you just save it. And in
the moment of temptation, when you're at that point where
you're in sin, right, you're like, you got the website
up and you're like, I want to stop. I haven't
gone all the way, but I just don't know how.

(02:54):
If you play that video, I promise you it will
suck the air out of the ta. It sucks, like
I believe it, Bro, how about that.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Yeah, I think it's I mean, it's solid to be
able to think through ideas like this. You and I
have run into a lot of questions about this. I mean,
porn is devastating. It's devastating, and it has to be eradicated.
You have to fight it like a war, like you're
in a war. So yeah, A couple thoughts, just initial reactions.

(03:28):
I hope that in that video he's making there is
there's the concept that Christ died for sin, died died
for sin to not not only like a like a
in a way that we would think a painful, bloody death,
but in a way that he absorbed the wrath of God.

(03:51):
So when you read through the Old Testament and you
see the wrath of God coming down on people or
towns or cities or all, this wrath, this this stored
up wrath, as Paul says in Romans, is all directed
towards that the person of Christ for that porn addiction.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
So I hope that that that's in the video say that.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
In that talk me down video and talk me down video.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
A couple of thoughts. I also, like, I thought, Man,
if this guy's married, the wife should be in the
talk Me Down video?

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Oh yeah, oh absolutely, you think about that?

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yeah, yeah, if you are in that, if if you're
in a battle where you're you actually want to defeat
this and sin, bring bring your mom if you're not married,
and your wife if you are married, and say hey,
here we are watching you.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yeah. So so there's that, And there's also the idea
of would would a person do that, Would they click
on that video or would they think I know that
video is in my photo album, go in there.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
It depends. I think it depends on how serious you
are about defeating the sin and fighting this.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
War, because then if you're if you are that serious,
there's other things like you need to go to a
flip phone.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Yeah, that's like a go to the flip phone. I've
heard I've heard guys say that they could change their
setting to black and white.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
That's what I was about to say. I've seen that. Yeah,
I've seen a guy. I noticed his phone was black
and he told me, he goes, yeah, I have a
problem with born. Yeah, and this takes most of the
the enticement out of it.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Interesting.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
And then there's also the Covenant Eyes dot com. You
and I have talked about before. It's it's a this
is a an organization that will take your IP addresses
on your computer and your phone, and if you go
to one of those compromising websites, it sends a notification
to your safety crew, your mom, your girlfriend, your your wife,
accountability group, accountability group, for sure, it says, Bob, visit

(06:00):
this website at this time and send it to mom. Yeah,
so that's and and then there's other way. There's there's
more practical accountability ways where you text your accountability buddy
and you say, tonight, I feel compromised tonight. I'm gonna
text you at seven o'clock tomorrow morning and tell you
what happened. And then the accountability buddy says, don't do it.

(06:22):
I'll wait to hear from you at seven. Yeah, you know,
And then seven am, how was last night? It was defeated,
you know, or whatever. I think the point what I'm
talking about here is that we should fight these things
with every piece of weaponry we could come up with.
And if that if that guy, I think that's a
good idea, and if that's something that works for him, yeah, fantastic.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
I love that whole idea of a time when you
know that you're strong, when you feel when you're in
the Lord's press. Of course, taking that opportunity to fight
the battle before the battle comes to you. We've talked
about being on the offensive, being an offensive Christian, taking
the battle to or taking the fight to the battle.
And rather than waiting for it to come at you.

(07:05):
And if you wait for it to come at you,
it's only looking for you at your most compromised time.
It's not coming at you when you're strong. It doesn't
come at you Sunday morning when your group of believers
is around you at church. Holy that's right. It comes
at things like this come at you when you are
tired and you're hungry, and you're your run down and

(07:26):
you haven't been in the Word and you have. Boy,
if you start your day and the Word and you
start you and I were talking about that this before
this conversation on camera. But starting your day in repentance,
not repenting after something happens, but start your day by
turning from the world and turning to God. This is
another great I mean, you find yourself in a situation

(07:48):
that you and it doesn't have to be just pornography.
It can be anything that you struggle with that you
need to help talking down, make one of those for yourself.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
That's great. You know in water safety that Amber and
I speak a bunch about It's it's always about layers
we talk about We talk about it in terms of
layers of protection. Just one thing is not enough, But
the more layers you add to protect yourself, the better
chance you have of avoiding or defeating the problem.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
That's good.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
This is a good layer. That's a great layer. Thanks
for the video.

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
